Properly made cheesecake. (Photos were taken a bit late - its only half of cake)

Had a lovely meal of corn fritters and salad highly recommend. Excellent coffee too thanks Salvation Cafe

Great staff who should be justifiably proud of their food and drinks. Came for a quick bite and ended up with the most satisfying bacon sandwich, New York style. Bacon so crispy it crackled and fresh crusty bread, with all the usual suspects! Next time I am going to try the pulled pork or brisket sandwich. Lovely staff and very cosy cafe.!

Ordered the traditional stack and belgian style waffes via delivery service. Waffles were a delicious sweet treat, the berry compote it comes with is amazing. The stack though was the absolute perfect brunch meal: crispy rosti and bacon, creamy avocado and hollandaise. Will 100% be back to visit in person.

A little hidden gem in Newtown. Fantastic food and fabulous coffee. The service was welcoming and genuine. Thanks Simon for a wonderful job with our food and your lovely manner. This will be a regular for me now on my many trips to Newtown

Delicious! Had the spicy pork pie, with a tomato relish. The filling was great and the crust was very tasty, the relish is to die for!

We decided to stop for lunch, having not been to Salvation for quite some time. While the lunch was reasonably quick to come and in line with expectation, the drinks order was unsatisfactory. Our iced coffee and tea should have been quick and arrive at the same time, but my partner had eventually assumed that I forgot to order her drink. My guess is that the person taking the order and making drinks just lacked experience and could stand a training session.

Delivers a caffeine fix when you need it. I grabbed a tray if flat whites here for a work meeting. They were good NZ standard coffee - appreciated by all. Meeting was not as good as the coffee

Just ordered Uber eats from here and left a cheeky note asking for extra gravy on my food. When it arrived I got my extra gravy and a cute little note with a cat drawing that made my day. Also the gravy was so good so definitely get bangers and mash :) thanks guys for your awesome service :)

Excellent place to sit and have a coffee with your cycle. Good coffee and waffle. Could park the cycle in a close visible location. Would help if there is a lock to secure cycle to a wall/pole.

Great coffee and gorgeous food. Owner operated with really brilliant staff. Ask if you want something tweaked, they're always happy to help.

Staff were friendly and helpful. I got a nice big breakfast here at an affordable price. It can be easily missed when driving by but it is definitely worth stopping for.

Good coffee and service. Great food. The gluten free bread was moist and not dry like other brands

Terrible service. I Was expertly ignored for 5 minutes by two scowling baristas so I left before sampling the coffee they found so challenging to make.

First time there today, what a gem that's a 5min walk from my home. Tasty food - traditional stack was amazing, great coffee with friendly customer service with a smile. Will definitely be back to try the very appetising looking counter food. Nice atmosphere inside with something for everyone.

Visited with a friend because we live near by. The place is not great but not terrible either. When we arrived there wasn't anyone there. The person serving us didn't talk or ask us what we wanted. Not the best customer service. I ordered an eggs Montreal. It wasn't the best or worse but it was defiantly value for money being only $12.50. A very mediocre place but good value.

Nice coffee and food. Great service at this cafe. A great place to meet. Prices are reasonable and consistent with other cafes in the area.

Ok, I went this morning. I ordered a latte, they gave me a cappuccino. I ordered toasts with poached eggs, but looked like toasts w boiling eggs.

Stopping here on a whim for coffee turned out to be a good choice. There's not only the counter options but a menu with some deliciously sounding choices. I settled on a piece of the fruit crumble cake which was nice and moist.
The staff seemed to have a good relationship with some of the other customers who came in at the same time. The seating is made up of couches as well as tables and chairs which is good depending on your reason for being there.

came for the cyclist stack.. loved it. food was fantastic, wait time was great for the dish and quality, service was good, surroundings are a bit cheapish but I didn't care considering the location and the food was impressive

*DISCLAIMER*I've only been into this place in the mornings and only gotten the cabinet food, maybe the afternoon staff/service and menu food is better.

Service/staff here very lackluster and inattentive. I often pop into this cafe for a quick snack in the morning before I start work and the staff never greet me, never smile and are very slow and withdrawn.

Just from my experience buying cabinet food in the mornings, things here are very inconsistent from portion-price-quality. I used to buy their salmon frittata for a few weeks. I noticed that the sizes of these varied but were gradually getting smaller haha but they were decent tasting enough for me to continue buying them until I got one on a Monday. When I bit into it, it was obvious they kept it over the weekend for too long or something it was soggy and dry in all the wrong places. Gross. I'm not one to throw away or waste food, I still ate it but I would never expect nor knowingly buy something like this from a cafe.

Same goes for their mini bacon and egg pies, I would also buy these for some extra protein in the morning. They were awesome to buy/eat for a week and then they put the price up by a dollar, which I really wouldn't care about but these pies had two eggs in each one and then the next week they started baking them with one egg.. The quantity of bacon in the pies had also diminished. Disappointing. Such a shame because the pies are actually pretty decent, no pastry on top so the egg gets that nice baked texture. I've always had to ask for their side salads with the pie and fritata too, even though it's meant to come with it. The very last time I received a side salad I LITERALLY had two leaves and three 1cmx1cm cubes of kumara. :-/
Why state these things come with side salads if they're not given unless asked for, and when given are minuscule to the point of ridiculousness?

I got the polenta from their cabinet once too. Very tasty indeed, unfortunately this was 9 or 10 dollars for a single dollop of polenta 3 slices of roasted capsicum and 3 slices of eggplant with misc vegetables. All slapped in with no cutlery and no napkin. Seriously, it looked epic in their cabinet, when I pulled it out of the little brown paper bag it was like I couldn't recognise it. It was like someone had taken extra special care to select x amount of minimum quantity of each thing in the cabinet and then thrown it into a plastic container.

Their cheapskatery is laughable!

W/regards to everything I have stated above, I still put up with for ages and am prepared to continue putting up with if it wasn't for the staff. Firstly, they are too slow, too slow to come to the counter, too slow to put through my transaction, too slow to deliver my food, just really slow, blase and generally seeming uninterested. I mentioned nobody smiling or greeting or making any effort, however the guy there with the moustache really takes the cake. When he serves me he doesn't say anything at all, ever. Then he sort of just stares at you while he makes coffee. Really bizarre. and unfriendly.

I really don't want to dislike this place, I am all for supporting local businesses, however I can't help but see this place as another average cafe with a classic below average "New Zealand standard" for hospitality.

Newtown goes hard, I don't really know about this place.

I almost forgot, their coffee is really good. It's as if it stands to juxtapose everything else to do with that place. Which either says something about the coffee or the place.. But really their coffee is mean. Tasty roast, organic milk, I think they offer tulip cups too if you're sitting in for a bit. So it does seem a little strange how this place misses the mark everywhere else.

Oh well. Coffee is great, everything else leaves a lot to be desired.

We've been here a few times for coffee and a scone. Each time the service is prompt, efficient, and very friendly. The coffee is excellent, and the cheese scones may just be the best I have ever had.
Been back a few times, and last Sunday thought we might try the brunch. Excellent poached eggs, tasty spicy pork sausage, and crispy rosti with avocado. Once again friendly service and great coffee.

Best savory muffins I've ever had! Other food is pretty good too. So glad you moved here Salvation!

Time to update the address for Salvation, menumania. They relocated to Adelaide Road a while back. Many more tables than in Hataitai, although the new area and building lacks the character of the old. But that's about the only negative. The same great coffee, faultless friendly service and nice food, all in an environment where it is easy to talk or read the paper in comfort. Well done.

Funny thing is, they are not allowed to take there aprons off. It really is quite sweet watching them attentively run through the door as a customer comes in.

This is a nice little place, it was a little cramped where I was sitting, but a good perch to watch the world (what world there is in Hataitai on a weekday...)go by.
The coffee - Gibston the very small roastery on The Terrace, just near the Treasury - was lovely, and well made. The staff were very attentive, the savoury scone was beautiful - my only complaint would be the staff sitting at the front together smoking, still wearing their aprons - Very unprofessional!
I will give it another go next time I am in the area.
