Good value for money in a great location. The shared kitchen is very clean overall and the option to use the whirlpool for a small extra charge is great. The staff is really friendly as well. But a big disadvantage is that he walls are really thin, therefore you may hear every word of your neighbours, if they are talking a bit louder (bad when you want to go to sleep early) Also sometimes the number of toilets can get tight, especially as the cleaning is before checkout time in the morning but at the same time a lot of people want to use them once more. But overall I enjoyed my stay and would choose again.

This place is a bit run down, but very clean and comfortable. Morning views are great. Service is helpful and friendly, but there's just one guy. It is mostly a self-serve place. Similar to an Airbnb. Location is very convenient to Tongariro National Park activities.

We loved our stay here. Close to the ski field, Kid friendly, our room is warm and clean. Staff are helpful. The food we had in the restaurant is great. I would recommend the chef special Lamb shank. Also, we appreciate the play area upstairs for the little ones. Overall, a great experience.

Other than the room being very small we were very content with the place. Sure you can see that it's not brand new but it was clean, with lovely wooden surfaces all around, a very practical sink in the room, big kitchen with all kinds of kitchen stuff for us to use, clean bathrooms. Would go back for sure:)

Oh my goodness this is a beautifully tucked away gem! I love that it has been around a little while and has history and personality and an ecological conscience too. Our room and bathroom were neat and immaculately clean. We arrived later than planned and our room was even warmed up for us. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and if they didn't know the answer to something asked, they enquired with someone else and came back to us. One even phoned the local shuttle company to try and arrange us an extra early pick up. And the burgers... YUM! My compliments to whoever made those patties and buns. I hope to come back - and stay longer. Just so charming with a magical setting to boot!

Great little affordable place, clean, quiet, amazing location. Good food and a well equipped common kitchen and lounge area if you want to cook your own meals.

Hotel is on great location. Nice for hiking and trail. But the room is extremely small, even cannot put 2 24" lugges flat on the floor, there's no place that you can put on your luggage, you can only leave it at your car. The room is cozy and the toilet is very small, like what you have in the airplane. Gym and basement seem nobody is maintaining. Good to say the common kitchen is really great! Big and nice compare to the room. At night you can see milky way in the sky! Amazing!!! Good to have a great night. And need to keep yourselves warm, as could be -1C at night if you're outside.

If you are planning to ski at whakapapa, there is no better place. You will be halfway up the mountain. So you get to sleep longer and enjoy the snow even more. The rooms are nice and cozy, shared kitchen has plenty of appliances and the bathrooms are clean. Staff if friendly and helpful. I will return for sure.

We had a great stay at Skotel Alpine Resort at Whakapapa Village. Our queen room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed the views of the mountains. The resort is conveniently located just less than 20 minutes from Whakapapa Ski Field, where we had a lot of fun skiing and snowboarding. The resort also offers ski gear rental, a restaurant with delicious food, and a spa that costs only $5 per person for 30 minutes. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. The receptionists were very attentive and helpful, and they arranged a shuttle for you to the ski field when you needed it ($40 per pax). We highly recommend Skotel Alpine Resort for anyone looking for a cozy and affordable place to stay near the ski field.

WoW suach a great and lovely place to stay. Definitely, this is the most family and kids-friendly place that I have ever stayed at. Everything is designed to ensure you have a nice and relaxing time. They have dedicated a generously-sized area as the kids' playroom, while other hotels seem to capitalize on every single inch of their spaces. (My kids loved it) Additionally, they offer a Game room, a spacious shared kitchen, spa facilities, and many other amenities that you can use for free. It's just a ten-minute drive to Happy Valley and Whakapapa ski field, making it a fantastic destination for ski enthusiasts traveling with their kids. The bar has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and all the bar staff are very friendly and helpful. We had such a pleasant time that I hesitate to mention anything negative about this place. However, there was a minor issue that I'd like to address. It appeared that there were some very young staff members (probably doing their internship) who might benefit from additional training. For instance, on the first day when we arrived at the hotel after a 5-hour drive with two young kids, a lady at the reception refused to check us in, asking us to wait until 3:00 PM. Another instance was when we ordered dinner one night, and my wife thought we could pay for it during check-out. However, another young lady chased her to our room and asked her to pay the dinner bill immediately. Also, upon leaving the hotel, I expected to hear something like "Hope you enjoyed your stay here" or "Have a safe trip," but the young lady simply said, "Ok, you are good to go." I need to say they were not rude and did not do anything wrong, but possibly they could do it in a more friendly way. Apart from these very minor incidents, it is an amazing place to stay, and we will definitely go back there next year.

We stayed here for the matariki long weekend. We stayed in the Ngarahue room- the room was clean and well stocked with amenities like tea, coffee, milk, toiletries etc. The room was very insulated and warm. I had an issue with the toilet at about 8pm. I called the number that was written on reception and a plumber arrived and fixed the issue within 10mins. The restaurant has delicious food and great portions.

Excellent place to stay if your going to Mt Ruapehu for skiing or other summer activities. Only drawback is no ensuite bathrooms. Met some amazing people in the kitchen and comune area. Nice Garden Spa booking 30 mins per room. The entertainment area has not been taken care of but the sauna and drying room we found to be very pleasent areas in the property basement level.

If your looking for a nice cosy hotel that is only 5 minutes away from Whakapapa, Skotel is the place! Every year we come here to stay for a week and it’s amazing! Great views of the mountain. The lounge is really warm and staff are always kind. There is also a nice restaurant inside the hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at Skotel because the facilities and location were such an excellent value for money, so much so that we booked another night after we came back from completing the Tongariro Northern Circuit. Whilst the place is a bit dated, it was warm, the staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable. We made good use of the kitchen facilities and lounge area. The room was small but warm and the bed was comfortable. There was a storage nook for our personal belongings and a sink inside the room too. The walls however, are very thin so you can hear conversations next door. This wasn't too much of an issue as we didn't spend much time in the room and it's not so much of a party place (not on the nights we were there at least!).
