Review Cafe Awa - Whakatane

Amazing Cafe Awa!! Blown away by the outstanding service, mouth watering food and unbelievable value. Corn fritters were next level good and the halloumi, salad, and dressing were just the cherries on top. The Awa Breakfast was a beast of a brekky - everything on the plate was top notch delicious. Iced mochas were perfect too. Trust me when I say I’ll be coming back to Whakatāne for Cafe Awa - It’s just that good.

Cute cafe attached to the Awa Motel we stayed at. Friendly service, yummy meals, generous portion size, plenty of options including vegetarian. Recommend dining in for breaky if you're staying at the motel.

Popped in this morning for some breakfast before a little fishing trip we were greated with a lovely hello and a smile moment we walked in from all the staff! Ordered two eggs Benedict with bacon a cappuccino (absolutely beautiful, lovely and frothy also the young gentleman even made it to a perfect warm temperature that I had requested which was awesome) and a tea! delicious breakfast and fantastic value for money! Very clean and tidy all round! Would recommend to anyone will certainly be back when we visit again! Staff are a credit to the place! Unfortunately didn't get the names of any of the staff but we visited today Thursday 1 June thanks again!

Favourite cafe in Whakatane. Always great food and love the coffee. I get out of my way and drive there for an hour just to eat there. Always very fresh and tasty ingredients. Can only recommend!!

Visited on a crowded Saturday morning. Managed to grab a table upstairs for 6 of us. Service was very friendly, wait times were mentioned as they were busy which is always appreciated, food size was very generous and coffee was great also. Would return when back in Whakatane

Had a visit from family members 2 Brothers and 3 Nephews and decided to head out for breakfast, had recently read that The White Island Rendezvous had changed it's name to "Awa" ( water translated from Maori) as this facility overlooks "Ohine Mataroa" ( Whakatane River) and gives exceptional views of "Moutohora" (Whale Island as called by Captain James Cook in earlier times) and my Domain as Harbour Master here for 25 years felt it was very appropriate to show off to my family (Whanau), we were all blown away by the exceptional service and the quality of our Breakfast and the wonderful coffees. We had chosen to sit on the 2nd floor dining area which mean't the waiting staff had a greater challenge climbing stairways and everything arriving in fine form hot and nothing spilt. I cannot praise or recommend thei venue enough. Well Done "AWA"

Best coffee of our trip. Comes double shot, I had a single shot. I had avocado smash and husband had white Island breakfast.

We’ve stopped here on our way to Tauranga. Food was yummy and very fast (harissa eggs and vegan grilled veggies on sourdough). We take the point for the coffee, while it smelled amazing when entering the café, the taste was 🫤 the flat white was just avarage and the vegan cappuccino wasn’t great… I’ll definitely recommend changing the oat milk, the moment the oatly taste takes away the coffee taste it is not suitable for coffee (experienced barista writing over here).

Delicious food and coffee!! We had a difficult order (lots of substitutes and additions due to dietary requirements and just being picky lol) and the server took the order confidently, plus food came out as ordered! Great service and meal 10/10 thanks again team! ⭐️

We drove from taupo to whakatane for the white island tour early in the morning and were hungry. The service was very good they served good portion size food. You can also create your own breakfast with options eg creamy mushroom, hashbrowns scrambled, poached eggs and much more . The staff were friendly and lastly the coffee was great.
