Really enjoyed the Hawaiian burger here. It was a delightful surprise with the juicy grilled pineapple.
The food may well be very good but waiting for over 40 mins to receive our order is totally unacceptable. Why keep the customer waiting because you can't be bothered putting on more staff to meet the demand. Service has gone to the dogs.
Let me tell you about Gibbos - they are remarkable- not just for the food, but for their attitude. Last week, they had a fire in the store - later that day I saw they had a food trailer outside the store, still serving customers. One of the owners, Nicole was in the trailer. She smiled and asked, "are you here for some smoked fish?". And now, a short time later - they are fully open again. They are remarkable, resilient people who just keep moving forward, offering only the best for their customers and giving so much back to our community all of this with a smile. And damn, their raw fish is next level goodness!
Oh dear Gibbos, you let the side down badly yesterday. Usually the food is fantastic but yesterday the batter, what there was of it on the fish was so oily that the paper was saturated in the few minutes it took to get home. We were left feeling quite queasy.
Seriously the service.. was very helpfull re phone call..fish was fresh snapper & batter was crispy & well drained.. and chips were a good amount...&

Absolutely best fish n chips I've had in a long time... fish n mussels were fresh n were cooked perfectly, oil well drained n the batter was light n crispy. Still getting over how juicy my fish was. Been a long time since I've had fish cooked that well from a shop. Raw fish was lovely too. Thanks guys
Gibbo,s a place you should not go past without stopping for an amazing kai. The management and staff are so accommodating and friendly and service was an 11. Most heartily recommended to all who are traveling to or through Whakatane. 20 🌟 from me.
