Review Gibbos On The Wharf - Whakatane

Visiting family and this place was recommended. Hands down the best, freshest fish n chips I have had in a long time

I haven't had fish n chips in a long time so thought I'd give Gibbo's a try as it was highly recommended to me. Well I was very impressed. Tidy and clean shop with a few tables inside, but they are definitely spoilt with the stunning setting outside looking over the harbour out to Whale Island. Staff were friendly, very generous portion sizes, crispy batter and crispy kumara chips. Never had such nice kumara chips before. Best fish n chips I've ever had. Best part is sitting on bench seats outside enjoying the meal with beautiful view. Highly recommended.

Very decent fish & chips on the wharf in Whakatane. Lots of options for fish other than just 'fish of the day' and the usual deep fried selection of fritters, sausages, burgers chips & other seafood plus ice cream and drinks. They do have some seating inside with high chairs available, overflow seating upstairs, there's a fishtank you can watch while you're watching for your food. There are a couple of picnic tables outside on the wharf if you want to eat straight away.

Thought I check this place out, glad I did service and staff were excellent, fast and friendly. As for food we had wedges which was delicious. To say that they're busy, was a understatement customers rocking up all the time. Hats off to the cook Amber and her work colleague, who didn't miss a beat or order

Lovely spot on the wharf with a view of whale island. Lovely sea breeze. Very generous portions of food and a nice assortment of drinks. Tidy clean shop and the same with the outdoor seating area. The staff are professional and friendly and helped us with the best deal for our needs. Made our visit to Whakatane an even better experience before heading off back home to Te Puke.

Two very good staff. Helpful and friendly. Fish was wellfried and chips nice and crisp. Only thing, they needed better draining as the trays were very greasy. Will be back.

We did a takeaway order for 4 people for lunch. Chips were great and the batter on the fish was light and crispy and tasted great 😋😋

Great value, friendly service and really good fish! Didn't like those squid rings though but thats just my personal taste. Anyways, would go back for classy fish and chips!

Fish - wow! Moving to Australia from the UK 5 years ago, I can say this is the best fish I have had since I left. Unfortunately it's too far to come often. The place doesn't look much but it doesn't matter. Must try.

Fish & chips just so awesome i met i couple guys from Papamoa comes over every month just to enjoy these Fish in chips.. thats along way to come for a good feed of Fish and chip aye 1hr 10mins each way and go down to the heads sit and eat..

Best fish n chips in Whakatane! Beautiful fresh fish and the add salt sachets so you can salt to your liking! Don’t visit Whakatane without visiting Gibbo’s

Good portion yummy fish and chips but the shop smelt in a hot day, so sitting at the back to the wharf was a bonus

Great selection of fresh fish at a reasonable price. Unfortunately no paypasss which is okay if you are prepared with cash or card
