Review Smash Pipi - Whangamata

Sharon Josephson
My grandson cannot eat either gluten or dairy, and the previous evening was very upset that we couldn't find any food he could safely enjoy in Whangamata. We had been having a wonderful time on a weekend away, although I'd been making all our meals because of the restrictions he faces every day. We decided to try again on our last day, and we both loved the fish and chips meal we decided upon. The young woman at the desk checked with the chef to ensure that yes, the Tempura batter contained no gluten or dairy, and it was served with a delicious salad and dressings that were also safe for him. We felt very 'taken care of' in the best way, and I think it was a highlight for him. We both loved the rest of our stay in Whangamata, except for food hunting - so we want to say a huge thank you to the chef and the whole team for the delicious meal we enjoyed.

Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Whangamata. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had while in Whangamata. Highly recommend!

Quirky chairs - just love it! Great coffee - extra hot - we asked, we got! Also nice that it was open on a Sunday afternoon when so many other places were closing!

Took the bike out for a ride this morning and stopped in for lunch while in whangamata. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The mussels were delicious, and the chicken burger was just as good. The beverages also went down a treat. Mike, the owner was welcoming, food was served quick and fresh, everything was spot on. Highly recommend, we shall be back!

Ribs n squids were fantastic. Meat falling off the bone with just the right amount of chew. Squid was a nice touch. Slaw was good. 9/10 - chips could be a little better maybe hand cut not frozen next time. Good price and value.

Family run restaurant, founded in 2016, pretty new. Awesome ribs, kids menu affordable and well presented and the seafood food was incredible delicious. I was cold because I swan a bit before going to this place and after the soup, I felt comforting and back to normal. Clean and well maintained establishment, in the middle of the Main Street, great food, great staff. Will be back anytime soon! Thanks!

I’m from Australia and I recently visited smash pipi along with my friends. I spent almost one week in Whangamata and I went to that restaurant on daily basis because of deliciousness of food and also the exceptional service of the staff. Thanks

We went for dinner, which is available now. Ben and his team really looked after us. Prawn and scallop platter for entree, which was fresh and delicious, then chicken and fish mains. The food really was superb, a great dinner option in Whangamatā!

Just dropped in for a quick coffee and breakfast and was blown away with the best salmon eggs benedict I have ever had. I love little understated cafes that are full of surprises.

There was a huge wait to place our order at the front for our food, still unsure what took them so long to get through the line. Fiod came at a reasonable time even though they were busy. The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly with a creamy hollandaise sauce and a huge portion of bacon, the burgers are big (but an excessive amount of lettuce). Great coffee which came out quickly.

My partner and I came here for a late brunch and managed to order from the brunch menu at 11am (finishes at 11:30) got a coffee each and both were perfect. My Mediterranean eggs were perfection. Only criticism was the hollandaise, just tasted like mayo, needed lemon juice!

We ordered the seafood chowder, buttermilk chicken burger, salad and loaded fries and they were delicious! The burger was the best hes ever had! Only complaint was that the cheese on the loaded fries tasted a little funny but not inedible by any means. Amazing service, wonderful staff and nice boss

Had the Buddha bowl and it was epic. A worthy meal for the Buddha's among us.
