Review Gonville North Indian Takaway - Whanganui

We were excited to try this takeaway, since that was the first Indian cuisine for my parents. Luckily, they loved it. They tried the mildly spicy Chicken Madras, which is a great choice if you want to introduce someone to Indian food. I ordered the Karahi lamb, which was tasty and had a great balance of spices. The takeaway restaurant has long opening hours, and the portions are decent.

Best Indian restaurant in town! My partner and I always get their butter chicken and it’s by far the best! Thick, creamy and so full of flavour. Highly recommend them!

I have been returning here the past 5 years for the Best butter chicken in town. I always refer friends and take my out of town visitors here, they have all been overly impressed saying it was the best Butter chicken they had tasted. Delicious every time. Love the garlic Naan, Homemade vegetable Samosa and Onion Bhjai are also extremely tasty. Excellent lunch deals at an affordable price.

I would rate this the best & freshest in Whanganui. Lovely family who provides great customer service. Thank you (pic of butter prawn mild. yum) *Tip* We always phone order about half hr - 1hr in advance because it's made fresh. Soooo much better than the Auckland Indian takeaways I use to order from.

Tried this place for the first time yesterday, the lunch special is good value for money. We had the beef vindaloo medium yesterday, was very good. Just now I finished my butter lamb (mild) and it was bloody delicious!!! 👌 Just like the name says, no lies there. It's soo creamy, stupid creamy, and the lamb is so soft. Highly recommend ☺️

Absolutely one of the best indian food experiences in NZ. Just go if you can. Pretty uninspiring shop but the food! Oh wow! Had Beef Kamahi Masala with onion bahji and onion paratha. So good 👍

Still the best curry in town. Don't skimp on the sides either, they pair really well with the mains. Also, sometimes just a plain butter Naan hits the spot right!

I heard about this place, so I went to taste the food. The customers are given certain times to pick up orders. My order was 2 hours away. The food was amazing, from the first bite to very last you just wanted to eat more. The fresh coriander added at the end and brought the new taste. The owners are amazing; both elderly people are very experienced in what they produce. I will most definitely eat again here. It's best to call and order earlier

Best Indian food we have had at an Indian takeaway in NZ. We were visiting from Nelson for my brothers wedding. We came back for seconds the next night. Definitely the taste of Indian home cooking. The wait was about an hour but so worth it! We had been told to plan for the extra wait so no issues at all. Just ordered a good hour before the kids got hungry. Will definitely come back when we come to visit again. Thank you so much for two amazing dinners that the whole family loved.

I've rated this restaurant 5 stars for a few reasons. Personally this is my favorite place to get curries from, the staff are friendly and are quite inviting. The food itself is very reasonably priced, especially compared to other restaurants, the curry is full of flavor and very delicious and creamy. They nail the spice where a medium truly feels like a medium spice. The curries are usually enough to last me a full dinner and a lunch the next day. I wouldn't go anywhere else if I was looking to have a curry.

The best Indian food I've had. So rich and creamy and full of flavour! The kind of curry you stick your spoon in and it'll stand up! So thick and delicious! Best in whanganui for sure! Best in nz? Quite possibly! 😜 also great reasonable prices!

Best Indian food we’ve ever had in NZ by far. Owned by a lovely and generous family this place has become our regular takeaway spot. We order 40mins - 1hr before bc everything is made fresh to order but definitely worth the wait. Great prices too
