Review Sourbros Bakery - Whanganui

Jon Livesey
In the heart of the city Where the streets were gritty There stood a pizzeria and bakery Run by a man who knew how to mix up the recipe The scent of baking dough filled the air Drawing me in without a care I ordered a pizza, crispy and hot Topped with basil, mozzarella, and a tomato that's just right But that wasn't all they had to offer For the bakery was a treat for any sufferer Their crusty bread, glazed with honey Satiated my soul, so tender and sunny The man behind the counter was a real artist A Maestro, his skill set was hardest For if you ever tasted their bagels You'd never be the same, you'd never need a break The pizzeria and bakery is a haven In a world where everything's changing and craving The taste of their pizza and bread Is one thing, you'll never forget.

Best bread in all of town, and even further afield. They also have incredible tasty treats from biscuits to sandwiches and a very nice spanakopita when I last visited. Definately worth a try. They also have a great new shop next to a great icecream store! Get in

Amazing pizza! We ordered two last night, they were huge, but we ate all pieces they were so good! We enjoyed them with a delicious beer next door at Porridge Watsons. If you're in Whanganui - you MUST try SourBros - best bread and pizza by a mile!

A beautiful old building outside with delicious food, creative design, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff inside. The pizza, bakery treats and coffee are all delicious. A great place to make your local hang for morning coffee or dinner take out.

Really enjoyed the mushroom and salami pizza on Friday night. You can take the pizza to Porridge Watson to eat which is handy as there is not much seating there. They were really busy but they gave me a buzzer thing so I was able to have a drink upstairs while I waited. Fun night!

One of the best pizzas I've had in a long time! I'm usually gluten sensitive but the real sourdough crust didn't bother me at all, even though I ate way more than I should have because it was so delicious. I didn't get to try the bakery bread unfortunately but will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Best pizza in town! Delicious sourdough bases with fresh, high quality toppings and a focus on local/authentic ingredients. The vibe is always warm and welcoming, and there is usually a fun assortment of extra treats to choose from like eclairs, cookies, cardamon buns or leftover bread. My favourites are the margarita with salami, or mushroom with extra goats cheese.

We travel from Taupo to get their bread! The seeded sourdough is amazing & perfect for sandwiches when you get the long tin version. There’s also a European Vollkornbrot which we give as gifts to all of our European friends who complain no one in NZ makes decent bread. They love it. We order in advance & pick up as we pass through. I hope that they will start delivery soon ;)

Bread with a passion. This new little cafe prides itself on quality. Bread, bagels, toasties and pastries. There is even Wellington hot chocolate. A welcome addition to the growing artisan foods in Whanganui.

I come here for the Vollkornbrot bread. Always good coffee and service.

Just had one of the best toasted sandwiches ever from here...so good.

We came here because we thought they had donuts etc, but was mainly lunch food. The lunch food was really yum, so highly recommend. Lots of vegetarian choices as well.

What a gem. Have been passing through Whanganui for two years putting up with mediocre food and awful coffee at various places. The only good coffee until now was in a place that didn't do food. SourBros came through with great food and coffee. Not much seating but when they move hopefully they will have more.

Wow, grabbed a couple of filled rolls for a road trip, magnificent! Plus a loaf of basic sourdough, delicious!

Service was amazing and the pizza was very very tasty, loved it.

Nice food, good service and the most important of all, best bread in town.

This has to be the best sourdough bread I have eaten anywhere in the country, bar none. I feel like I am in a world class cafe as I eat my sourdough with fresh avocado on the deck in the sun today. Absolute bliss.
