A great ambience. A little quirky when compared to some bars. Often have entertainment ranging from comedy shows to bands. A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon

Cool place to hang out, love the style and chill atmosphere. Some great music and excellent craft beer options. Definitely recommend checking this place out! There is some finger food options if you're hungry, and there are some cool old school games to play such as foosball and a spacies cabinet.

Porridge has got everything I want in a Local. Great craft beers at affordable prices that rotate, so there's always something new to try. The food needs a Michelin Star and I'll often come down just for that. There is always something going on, such as comedy nights, quiz nights, poetry, karaoke... at the weekend during the day there's bands playing outside so you can sit out and enjoy the sun and music with a cold one. At night there are often a variety of gigs to cover all tastes so you should keep an ear out for what's on. The bar staff are super friendly and hospitable and the regulars are great too. Porridge is the kind of pub you can go out to by yourself and you're probably going to make a new friend or two by the end of the night. Porridge is where the culture is, if you're into art and music it's the place to be. It's in the middle of a bunch of local galleries that are within walking distance, and a lot of our local artists and musos are patrons. I'd also like to add that it's a queer friendly space, I'm out and it's one of the only pubs in town I feel entirely safe, welcome and comfortable. Oh and they're dog friendly too! People often bring their dogs during the day and they even offer 'dog beer' (bonebroth) that your pets will love. So if that sounds like your kind of pub, check it out, I highly recommend it.

This bar is a real gem. Amazing an old building and they have fitted it out. So it has amazing vibes. Staff super friendly and welcoming. A great selection of drinks including their own beer. We were there when there was live jazz playing. It couldn’t have been a nicer place to have a relaxing drink. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Wanganui.

Tucked away down an alley so listen for it if on foot. A great choice of beers and food. When we visited there were young families, groups of 20/30 year olds and us oldies, so everyone is welcome.

Love this bar. We’ll worth a visit whether you’re hungry, thirsty, looking for entertainment or a mixture of all three. We popped in for lunch and the food was fantastic. Six completely clean plates will attest to that. Our usually fussy kids said the fries were the best they’ve ever had. Great selection of drinks and a crazy eclectic decor offering a little bit for everyone. I’ve no doubt we will return again & again.

a surprisingly wonderful find. very unique. cool friendly and discerning service, very relaxed atmosphere, delicious tapas and interesting beers and wines. this place is a must if you have an once of style and/or desire to experience people putting their personality and zest into their dreams. a big shout out to Coco.

Cool bar to visit if you're wanting to try the latest craft beer. Nice atmosphere.. Quirky old cinema seats to sit in, not to mention old cinema seats to sit in and the outdoor area. Well worth a visit! I would highly recommend 👍😊

Don't think there is a better bar in NZ. Ive travelled around and been to 100s of bars across the country and Porridge is by far the best. Great food, Great staff, The selection of drinks is next level. We'll worth the visit..

This place is 1 in a million. If you're alone, head to big table at rear of garden the regulars there are an awesome bunch. This place is almost worth moving to Whanganui to be close to.

As a fan of red leather, the owners face reminded me of Grandma’s house, which I didn’t necessarily enjoy, but the atmosphere, food and beverages more than made up for it.

Probably one of the more better bars to go to, nice vibe, cool aethetic and nice people, definitely a go to place when they have something zesty on stage!
