Review Cafe Narnia - Whangarei

Adam Brooks
Prices are up there. Got a Mince and Cheese Pie for 11$ but I was surprised that it came with afew extras. But unlike many other cafes, the Sauce and the salad and the pie was a really good combo of flavours đź‘Ť like someone actually thought about it, rather then just added extras to justify a higher price. Atmosphere was abit loud and hard to move around, but otherwise it's very clean, tables are sturdy (wobbly tables are annoying), everyone's nice. Everything was nice đź‘Ť

Awesome little Café just around the corner from all the Motels down to the CBD. The prices are reasonable, service is quick fast and friendly. They have quite a great tasting Gluten-free Selection on the Menu aswell, especially their Waffles with Bananas and Syrup. Worth a Breakfast stop if you’re in town, you won’t be disappointed. Cheers

There is a selection of cabinet food as well as a menu board. I had a cheese cake and hazelnut latte. Cheese cake was nice. Latte heavy handed on the hazelnut. Got more milk to dilute the coffee. Much nicer. Narnia can get very busy. The staff are very nice and always smiling. Parking can be difficult

Eggs Benedict with Salmon together with Omelette were a perfect combination for us. The side salad could make use of a dressing though. Altogeher it was a lovely meal and good service. Will definitely come back soon.

I had salmon eggs benedict and my partner had the big breakfast which we both enjoyed. First cafe that I could get avocado and salmon without having to pay extra but hollandaise wasn't the best but still ok. Huge portions made it that much more enjoyable. Cafe is a little outdated and hot chocolate a little milky although bowl was very large. Staff are friendly. Good pricing here.

Amazing food, excellent hot chocolate, coffee was amazing, freshly cooked mushrooms... serving size was just right but the food tasted fresh... amazing will be back :)

Our go to place when visiting Whangarei. We love it because the food, the coffee and the service is consistently excellent. Add a quirky atmosphere which makes you feel at home and it's a total winner

I really enjoyed this cafe, it was nice to be welcomed by both staff members at the till. Lots of seating and space to spread out. Standard tables also some comfy couches with coffee tables, also another room of seating. I had a savoury cheese and onion tart and lemon cake, with a almond milk chai latte. All pretty decent and quickly served. It has a ramp entry and steps so every body friendly. Parking on the surrounding streets.

A comfortable little café with amazing food, exactly what my daughter and I needed after a 4hr drive

The food was very nice and filling , the cups of tea were generous , the cold water was ideal and the fans and heat pump made it very comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and laughed at my humour ( a bonus). Cafe Narnia always seem to hit the target .

Food was fabulous, but our food took nearly 25 minutes to come out. There was only 3 other customers that came in after us.

The diligent and friendly staff work well together, providing service in a timely manner. The atmosphere is, "local". From the elderly gentleman who stood to open the door for another patron, to the ebb and flow of people from all walks within the community, you can see its a place to enjoy coffee and home made pastries. A small but flexible menu at reasonable prices. I recommend.

Great staff, delicious coffee and tasty food.

Outstanding food, great coffee! The muesli with generous amounts of yoghurt and berry compote was delicious, but the French toast with fresh fruit, berry compote, whipped cream, perfectly cooked bacon and maple syrup was just amazing!

It was a lovely cafe on a main road of Whangarei. Service was very friendly and helpful. I got Eggs Benedict with mushroom on a side, and a flat white. My breakfast was fresh and yummy. Coffee wasn't the best I have had but was nice enough. Prices were slightly higher than average price in Auckland. Would go back if there is a chance.

I had the pleasure of having my 50th birthday here September last year. It was excellent. All my friends commented on how courteous and helpful the staff were. The food was divine and enjoyed by all. I am a regular take away coffee patron because they have the best coffee in town.

Made the mistake of going to Narnia's for my birthday breakfast.
They had closed the kitchen even though we were there when the kitchen should have been open. The coffee wasn't good and the food stale and uninteresting. Will not be revisiting this café.

I was a regular customer and advocate of this cafe in 2011 when we lived nearby. However I was disappointed with a recent visit where the cost of my long black coffee increased from $3.80 (have there) to $4.50 because I wanted it takeaway. Apart from the fact it's ridiculous to charge extra for a takeaway cup (surely it costs you more to have people using your facilities, staff costs, cost of washing cups etc), surely they don't need to charge this much extra? This pricing strategy made me do two things - 1) I decided to not buy any food as I was reeling at the cost of the coffee, 2) decided not to come back here again for a takeaway!

After this experience I asked around & found other cafes in Whangarei don't all charge extra.

My Wife and I were at Cafe Narnia for a private function on Sunday 3rd of Feb. A good time was had by all, we had snack food which was excellent and were served great
coffees to boot. Would recommend this Cafe to all my friends & family.

The place has certainly gone downhill in the last 2 years since I last visited. There wasn't many vegetarian options on the menu at all and what there was didn't look very inspiring. My friend and I both ordered the veggie option of a veggie stack with polenta. It was the driest polenta I have ever had and certainly not a meal worth $17. I won't be going back. Over priced and just not up to scratch.

After being told how amazing this place was and that the food was amazing I was sadly disappointed when I arrived. It seemed to be a cool concept but wasn't really what I expected. We had made a reservation which was great to get seated straight away however when we sat down our table was covered in sticky old juice. The furniture was old and falling apart and I felt like my chair would fall apart at the slightest move. And then unfortunately the food we ALL received was so disappointing and heavily over priced. It would be an idea to re look at the quality of the food made and that it meets the description on the board and that the price is reflecting what you are delivering (either improve the food or lower the price) for $17 eggs bene I'd expect gourmet with all the trimming......I got 2 English muffins, bacon, eggs & hollandaise in such a way I could have made better at home. Sadly I will not return to this cafe in the future.

Last time we came there for lunch we had a lovely meal, but this time was a totally different experience.I booked a table for 6 people today Sunday and 5 of us ordered the Steak sandwich. After a while they accidentally delivered a steak sandwich meal to our table that was meant for another table and came and took it back, but when it was there we looked at it and thought 'wow if thats what the Steak sandwich is like we cant wait for ours to arrive!', however when our sandwiches arrived(5 of them) they were nothing like the first one and in fact nothing like described on the menu. The amount of 'steak' on each sandwich was clearly a slap in the face, when Mine actually arrived I put all of the 'steak' together in a little pile and it would have amounted to about 2 tablespoons, also the sandwiches came with rather sad 1 portobello mushroom (I believe your menu actually states 2) and just a lot of greens 1 cherry tomato cut in half and the potato element had clearly been made quite a bit earlier and was cold and clammy. My sandwich was not the only one like this but actually all 5.Seriously if the 'chef' and I use the term loosely did not have enough ingredients to make 5 with everything that you promise on the menu then we would have appreciated knowing this so we could choose something else rather than letting ourselves be blatantly ripped off in this manner,(seriously guys did you not really think we would notice).I am bitterly disappointed and notice that you are willing to cut down on the food you sent to us but plainly we had to spend the same as everyone else.Shame on you we wont be coming back and as I have said we have been there quite a few times, I will also be posting this on menu mania.

I find Cafe Narnia a cozy place to spend my morning while having breakfast with my husband on our day off. The place is really cool..and there's absolutely no question about the coffee and food much more the service you get from the staff..they are all wonderful! Coffee is perfect, food is delicious, people are friendly! I just love it!

I always make an effort to get to narnia, they do the best triple shot mochas in Whangarei, and most of NZ, I have tried a few! Plus their brownies are to die for and the staff are always lovely. The fact that you get to walk thru the wardrobe adds to the whole experience!

$4.50 for a takeaway coffee? Its a lovely cafe - we went when on holiday and saw it had won awards for coffee - but seriously charging $4.50 to take away? I don't understand the rational and $1 extra per cup of coffee because you want to take away feels crazy!

Tried Narnia for the first time for our family lunch on Sunday. What a neat spot, cosy and comfortable, and tasty food. Friendly staff, great service and awesome coffee.

My rating for this cafe comes after having just sipped the best Chai Latte I have ever had. Awesome mix.
