Review Stumpy's Takeaways - Whangarei

Top notch quality fish and chips, great variety of choices including fresh seafood. Only downside was the one scoop of chips was too small.

We bought food for a family supper. Friendly welcome from staff, quick service too. Fish and chips were great - hot and done to a turn. The burgers were also very tasty. Prices reasonable. Big range of meals available. Plenty of parking. Easily wheelchair accessible. Well worth a visit!

Had a fabulous meal of fish and chips. Served quickly. Crisp batter, yummy chips cooked nicely. Excellent Hoki fish and battered snags. Good service. Always head to Stumpy's in Whangarei when we want takeaways.

Worth the stop for the fish burgers we got here! Would have loved for the raw fish to have been a bit more filling but it was all good. Servings was not over the top and the deep fried stuff didn't feel too oily. Keep it up team! Maybe a little bit more chips??

Super generous portions of fish perfectly cooked and a generous serving of mussels cooked perfectly too. All at a bloody good price. We’ll be back!!!

I've been going here since I was a child. The taste is the same. I love it so much. It's very very good. Best fish n chips you will ever get.

Great fish and chips and a good selection of seafood at affordable prices!

Really good fish'n'chips, probably the best I've had in a long time. Chip scoop sizing is very small, that would be my only improvement suggestion

Best fish and chips in Whangarei I like to stop here when coming though

I am an American living in Boston, Massachusetts — a location famed for its fish-and-chips. Nevertheless, Stumpy’s offers the finest fish-and-chips I have ever had. Did my boat smell like Stumpy’s for at least forty-eight hours after consumption? Yes. Was it absolutely worth it? Also yes. Stump yourself as soon as possible.

Really lovely people here and great fish and chips!

We always come here for the burgers, nice fresh and big. The burgers also come with a patty when you order a steak burger, good price, good service. Chips are very little for your dollar. If you want a good burger come here if you want alot of chips for your dollar, maunu schnapper takeaways.

We regularly used to head to Stumpy's, grab fish & chips and a couple of the (still) excellent home made fishcakes (about $15 all up) and then eat them by the water out at Onerahi.
You got a good feed and for a fair price.
Lately though, things have really gone down the pan. The portions have shrunk and the cost has crept to levels bordering on greedy. These days a scabby 'double' portion of chips just about feeds one and the fish only just measures up (fishcake OK) = $20
The quality of the food has slipped too. Sort it out Stumpy's.

Love this place! fresh and delicious. friendly service and just great all round. If you are looking for juicy kaimoana cooked to perfection then look no further. YUM!!! I will be back for sure.

I usually get a fishermans basket for the variety but whatever I have ordered has been great. If you want a burger that can choke a horse then a stumpy burger is good. Also the biltong is a bit special.

Chips were excellent.

Snapper was not so good. In fact not even certain it was snapper... Or perhaps it was frozen even though I double checked it was fresh before I ordered. Dry and tasteless.

Just got fish and chips for tea
$6 for a piece of Dory which was NOT FRESH!, in fact it was not of edible standard! The piece of Hoki at $3.80 was very fresh and nice. Chips were good too

Very Good. Stumpy's have beautiful Fish and Chips. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because their portions are kind of small. The fish pieces could be a bit bigger and you don't get a lot of chips for your dollar.

Sorry Whangarei Stumpy's but I was disappointed in August 2010. Batter was almost leathery, soft and inedible. When I took the fish out of the batter the Dory was very thin and small. Disappointing for a Stumpy's store. Maybe I felt that way because I had been to the Kawakawa store and that is GOOD. However, I did get a replacement meal....but I want that in Kawakawa.
You should try the Kawakawa store, always smells fresh and clean. been there about 5 times - Fish and chips are the best I have ever tried anywhere.
