Review Tai Tong Chinese Restaurant - Whangarei

This place is epic. If you're a local & find yourself complaining about this wee Whangarei kai gem, then go back to KFC, don't be so whiny there's barely anything up here!!. We've always found it a bit hard (but love it up here, gee you fellas are lucky eh!!! no dramas up these ways!) after running away from Tāmaki Makaurau, as quite frankly the 80s is in full effect in infrastructure & environment which can be quite hard to adjust too. So, Jafa here, used to North Shore & Inner City food spots. Like many cool places we've found in Whangarei, this is one of those choice little kai spots that a Jafa can feel food loved again, where there's no bells & whistles, just great service, excellent kai, & a relaxed environment. Nothing quite like it. Definitely worth the stop in. We had dinner & I'm pretty sure I rolled out the door. Not sure if I was supposed to eat the noodle type cup that my beef came in, but I ate it anyway cause I can. The waitress of the night was excellent. Managed all our tables just fine & professionally. Orders came promptly, kai was sizzling & beautifully cooked & prepared. Check out the carrot eagle photo I uploaded. Epic. I think it you are expecting 5 star bottom of an Auckland Hotel type dining, then yes you'd be disappointed. This place sits on the comfortable fringe of casual dress, great for kids. So definitely check yourself before you head in, you don't have to get all done up, not that kind of place. Expect fine kai & a good happy atmosphere around other diners. To the chefs mum, you are amazing. Make sure you tell your son to pay you 😄 Compliments to the chef. Roast pork was on another level! Egg fu yong, OMG best I've had. Rice noodle chow mein was sooooo good. Everything else we ordered gets a 10/10

I am giving this a 5 because the food is very good and the waitress very pleasant and helpful. It is in the environs of a typical Chinese restaurant very low key. The tables are clean and toilets clean The size of dishes is very generous as you can see in the photos. Cost $$

Fantastic food , bbq pork n roast pork combo., damn gd pork prawn dumplings tasty as friendly service will go back weekend for yum cha , reccomend for gd reasonable priced food , thank you Tai Tong Restaurant.

Had a sit down meal here and since the a takeaway. The sit down meal was the best Chinese food I've had for years. The takeaway was just as good. Great variety at a reasonable price.

We got in last minute for Father's day We haven't been here for many years as last time wasn't that great Different people now And amazing service food was amazing Free dessert was a bonus Will definitely be going back Thank you

Loved our dine-in experience. Very friendly staff and welcoming of the kiddies too. Fantastic service, absolutely delicious food!! Received complimentary entree for the table and ended with a lovely surprise of complimentary Mother's Day pudding for us Mummas - Thank you Tai Tong! We'll definitely be back when we are next in Whanagrei.

They service was very good. Some dishes may be too salty for some. Otherwise I enjoyed other dishes

Each time I've been here, I've been served by someone different, but the service is always the same, excellent.

We were welcomed with a friendly smile. The service and food was absolutely fabulous. The waitresses were both very kind and made us feel right at home. I would reccomend coming here to eat. 10/10. Definately coming back!!

Went here with a party at around midday and practically had the place to ourselves. Which is both great and a crying shame as this place makes amazing food and deserves to have more people though the doors. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced for the portion sizes you get. My personal favourites were the crispy roast pork and the BBQ pork buns, but everything we were given was great. The variety of meat vegetable and fish dishes was fantastic and means that there is something for everyone in your group to enjoy. The staff were friendly, attentive and the service was fast. Would recommend to anyone local looking to give yum cha/dim sum a try. 10/10 Updated 25/06/2023 this places has only gotten better since my last visit. The restaurant has had a coat of paint some new chairs and tablecloths. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of really tasty yum cha on offer. Still 10/10 would recommend for groups as well as going with family or friends.

Hands down best Chinese food I've had. Food was fresh & delicious. Large selection of dishes so there was something to suit all the eating requirements of my family (Vegetarian, GF etc). The bbq pork dishes were amazing! We dined in and the customer service was excellent. Our waitress even topped up our wine glasses with our byo wine, remembering who was drinking what. Will definitely be back soon.

This is a fantastic place to dine in on the weekends. Food & service is amazing. You won't leave hungry.

The service was exceptional 5 star plus standard. The food was exceptionally satisfying. Will definetly dine in again on our next visit to the region.

Actual good value still exists. The food is good and quite healthy. Makes me full.
