Review Blue Ginger - Whitianga

Got the prawn pad Thai, nice and peanuty - the way I like it, ample protein (prawn). Doesn't need the lime so try it first.

Woooooah, the food here was amazing! Every dish smashed it. And it all came out so quickly, we were very impressed! The staff were all very friendly and the decor was great, made for a very nice vibe inside. Would highly recommend

Amazing amazing amazing experience at blue ginger earlier tonight. The food was exceptional, the best food we’ve had in our three weeks visiting NZ. The owner and staff were so kind, friendly and attentive (even threw in some fortune cookies as we were leaving)! Do yourself a favour and pay blue ginger a visit. 5+ stars 😍

Just WOW! What an experience! The decor, great friendly service and all those beautiful smells. We have ordered the spring rolls, which were good, but the short soup and the Kapow chicken took it to the next level and I must say they were one of the best dishes we have ever had!Soooo much flavor, my mouth is watering again just to write about it!Portions are huge, we were not able to finish it, same as many other customers around.Thank you team!As we are a big foodies, this visit certainly made our wedding anniversary unforgettable!!!

Food was wonderful. The roast duck curry was our favorite. The desert ice cream mixed with a shot of espresso gave us the kick we needed before going to hot water beach.

This restaurant came highly recommended! We tried the prawn dumplings, both pork and chicken bao buns, bang bang shrimp mango salad and prawns pad Thai! Each course was better than the one before! Best pad Thai!!

We went to Blue Ginger because all the local people we asked said it’s one of their two favourite restaurants (Lukes Kitchen being the other). Bookings aren’t taken and we walked in around 7pm to find it 80% full - pretty impressive for a Monday night. Expectations were high… We ordered: A ginger beer (unlicensed premises) Prawn crackers and poppadoms. Fresh summer roll. Prawn dumplings and Vietnamese noodle bowl. NZ$93.84 The fresh summer roll arrived quickly. Then after about ten minutes the prawn dumplings. Another ten minutes then prawn crackers and the poppadoms. About fifteen minutes later the Vietnamese noodle bowl. So our meal arrived in dribs and drabs over a 35 minute period. It does say on the menu “Dishes are designed to share & arrive in a rolling manner as soon as they are ready.” Point taken. But surely prawn crackers and poppadoms are quicker than everything else I ordered? Call me conventional but I see these two food items as appetisers to accompany a pre-meal drink. (My ginger beer was long gone before they arrived, which was well after the fresh summer roll and prawn dumplings). Clearly Blue Ginger has a captive market and is well-loved locally, but the net result of their producer-driven approach is to deliver this customer an unsatisfactory meal experience. This is a shame as some of the individual elements were excellent - prawn dumplings and poppadums in particular.

We popped in for a cheap n cheerful lunch - the sushi was the worst I've had - a reasonable amount of filling - but tasteless.<br/>Deep fried calamari - was battered deep fried calamari - tender but no flavour, even with dipping sauce. Not long after leaving tummy felt revolting - gripey &amp; grumbly. All the time we were eating, the person behind the counter was cleaning &amp; fiddling in the restaurant &amp; bordering on rude. It made the lunch very uncomfortable. We were the only people in restaurant - in peak season. There are a lot better choices around.

Probably the best value in Whitianga; not to mention some of the yummiest food. Great for takeaways and a lovely friendly place to eat in.
