Review Ma Maison Restaurant & Bar - Akaroa

Lawrence Allen
"Ma Maison" in Akaroa has many delightful culinary offerings. The impeccable service and the delectable French-inspired dishes are second to none and a gastronomic pleasure. The atmosphere and stunning views add an extra layer of enchantment to the dining experience making it a must-visit gem in the local culinary scene. However we we're seated in the covered conservatory area and the lack of blinds on the sides made it very uncomfortable as the sun set on the western side at which we we're seated. The dessert also took quite a while to be prepared compared to our entrée and mains.

Lovely food here today for lunch. Our second visit and still a wonderful experience. Hope we can get back to Akaroa again soon.

I can say it was perfect brunch for us. We didn't planned which restaurant we would go. During walk, we heard noisy sound due to their exterior upgrade, and I thought the name was lovely. (Ma maison means my house in French.) The big boat which is having on the ceiling was interesting, and the staffs were very kind and caring. The food choice was great luckily. We had seared scallops, some mushroom with sour dough, and with extra some side menu. The scallops were fresh and cooked perfectly, and it melted in my mouth. The mushrooms food was tasty, but personal it could be much better with some meats such as bacon to add a bit of saltiness. If I visit Akaroa again, I will definitely choose the scallops again.

Really love the food and ambiance here. We ordered the following and we really enjoyed the pan-seared scallops! We'll eat here again if ever we find ourselves in Akaroa again.

It's a fantastic view right out over the harbour, boats at anchor and the hills over the water. Then there is the very tasty food, friendly service and smart decor.

Great view, great service, pretty good food in general. We ordered pan seared scallops, mussels for starters, Salmon, Cod for the mains, green beans with truffle oil, orange chocolate moose, and crème brûlée to celebrate our anniversary. The starters Scallops and mussels were really fresh and delicious. However for both fish dishes, they added too much salt to the fish, which was too salty for us. While the two desserts were very tasty and beautifully presented. The service was also great. Would be perfect if the fish was less salty.

Best fish I think I’ve ever eaten. we also had breakfast. Meals we most enjoyed: The Akaroa Fish, Beef Fillet, Eggs Royale.

Wonderful dining experience, thoughtful service, very well flavored meals (especially mussels), great wine selection and knowledgeable staff (I encourage you to ask for recommendations). A bit more expensive but totally worth it. Maybe the deserts are priced a bit too generously, but they were very good also.

The food was great but the service was not good. Not good at all. We had the bread with cheese spread and the scallops to start. They were both delicious although I’m not a fan of the full scallop with the roe attached. For mains we had the lamb loin and the Akaroa seafood. Both clams in my seafood had sand in them and the 1 shrimp was no deveined/cleaned properly. We had the brioche pudding for dessert. We ordered desert before finishing our mains because everything took so long. We saw other tables getting frustrated and walking up to pay rather than waiting for their bill and looking at their watches in frustration. It wasn’t busy, there were quite a few staff, and we had a reservation. Tables came in staggered so it was a mystery why the service was so slow. Dirty dishes weren’t picked up and my drink order was forgotten and the water bottle wasn’t refilled. Throughout we saw our server coughing into her hands. As we left all the servers were petting a dog that came in with its owner, going back to work and petting the dog again. It was a delicious but frustrating slow meal.

Best place in Akaroa to have a meal whilst watching the sunset! Loved the burger the best! They are also very good about allergies and were able to help me avoid some very serious cross contamination allergies in a very professional manner. Will go here again!

Staff were attentive, food was great. I had the steak with onion rings.. Only complaint from me was it could have done with another vegetable on the plate. My partner had confied duck breast and it tasted amazing. Then we both got desserts the Eaton Mess was sooo good. Would highly recommend.

Une table d’excellente facture dans un cadre très agréable. Les plats sont délicieux. La carte des vins est exquise. L’équipe connait bien ses plats et les accords et pour finir les desserts valent le détour.
