Review Africa - Albany

I went on a Monday afternoon, so it was very quiet. It looks like a lovely place, where people can hang out and catch up. There's TVs everywhere, pool tables, and a designated smoking area. There are two big outdoor areas, which is lovely in summer. I did think that $10 was quite steep for a beer, even if it was imported. I also thought the food menu was a bit dear, so I didn't order food. I asked the one lady if I could take some photos, and she said yes. But then the (I think owner) got upset and asked why I was taking photos. It's still think it is a nice place, which somewhat reminds me of home (South Africa). The decor was a bit typical and generic "Africa".

Plenty of parking on site or out the front available. Outdoor seating during the warmer months is also very spacious. The bar itself is large with plenty of beers on tap as well as all your favourite spirits. Pool tables and gaming machines are on site along with the option for karaoke. Pricing is a wee bit high, overall relaxing place for a cold drink

Little off the beaten track located more in an industrial area so plenty of parking and large outdoor areas. Nicely African theme inside and out with staff genuinely friendly and efficient.

Food was delicious we also order a pizza but my partner dug in before I even had the chance to take a picture. Staff was very friendly. Also very clean inside too

Thursday nights are the best with wonderful sexy hostesses from Covergirls. Somehow it's a bit gloomy lighting inside, but the rest is very good and personally I go for the pool tables as much as anything. Nice job.

A fun, decent blue collar bar with an ATM machine, Pokies, Food and drinks. The staff are friendly and have good banter. Especially great if you come Thurs because that's when they have sexy women come in and parade around in lingerie.

Great tradie destination. Good price on beers and other drinks, solid bar food selection. Nice staff. Sit inside or a covered back deck.

Went there tonight food is awful<br/>Then the fact the chef is out drinking between making it does not help <br/>The Chinese waitress who struggles with English is not an advert ... when you don’t know what garlic bread is it’s a bit sad ...<br/>Slow to get drinks <br/>Regulars treated much better than anyone else , so don’t go there as a new customer , they just won’t serve you ...

We tend to come here a lot with our team at work. Always a decent experience for us. The steaks are decent and everything is reasonably priced. No major complaints from me.

Went here last Saturday night and had a really succulent chicken snitzel with hot nicely crisp chips and creamy and deluciius bourbon pepper sauce which was served on the side. The service at the bar was also great. Will definitely come back. Only downer was heaps of kids chasing each other and mucking around without their parents at the pool tables being silly with the pool cues. Scraping the tables and play fighting with them.

We made the mistake of visiting bar africa today and ordered food to go with our drinks. We waited an hour for our food and only part of our order arrived. We asked for the rest an were told it would be 5 minutes. Food went out to other tables but not ours we waited another 20 minutes and then asked fora refund so we could leave. At that point the staff didnt even know what we had ordered. Very disappointed by the attitudes and the food that did get delivered. Will not return and would encouage all those we no to give this place a swerve. With so many good eateries around this is not the place to go.

It is what it is. A bar. They should stop serving food except bar snacks, eg chips, wedges etc.  The salad I had was below average, brown lettuce and some cheese, smoked chicken. Fast service though as it took them about 5 minutes to open the bag of lettuce, cheese and chicken packets.<br/>Might be ok for a Friday drink outside. The food is a let-down. Not going back

Would love to make this place our local but unfortunately they don't allow children on week nights...We are a big social crowd of family and friends who have now had to find a local. So their loss.....

Service was average. Was greeted but didn't hear from them for the rest of the night. Didn't offer any water or drinks, didn't even serve at the table. Ribs were quite nice would have liked more onion rings. Salad needed stems chopped off. What ruined it for me was when I ordered 3 choc sponge brownies they only had one left so we bought one and two sundaes. Didn't give us our money back because the sundaes were cheaper. The brownie was disgusting. It had past the point of being a couple day old brownie when they're hard but this brownie must have been a week old. It was grainy from being reheated and tasted stale. Had to combine it with the ice cream for it to taste better. Most likely won't be here again.

Have come here plenty of times for weekend safari parties. Absolutely love the indoor + outdoor setting. So much to do, play pool, slot machines etc. Drinks are well priced. Staff is just wonderful. Work so hard in maddening crowds and always delivering with a smile. Have had a hard time ordering food though, as kitchen closes early, long wait due to being very crowded and too many orders. Love the place and will keep visiting.

I'm sure this place is great for a function but they should stop serving meals. <br/>1. No service<br/>2. Music volume makes casual dining prohibitive. <br/>3. Waited 30 mins for meals to come when we were almost the only ones eating there. <br/>4. Food is awful! African? Does that mean burnt and tasteless?

Wasn't greeted, seated or asked what we wanted for dinner when sitting down for a feast last night. <br/>Fair enough, it's a bar not an actual restaurant.<br/>Ordered a $30 Tomahawk Ribeye Medium Rare while my friend ordered the same but rare. (Menu comes with onion rings, salad, chips, sauce and no drink) 12 minutes later the food arrives - and upon arrival we're told they ran out of onion rings so got more fries.. Okay. Thanks for telling us at the point of no return? <br/><br/>Steak is here. I cut into it and the very outer side of my steak is definitely medium rare however the middle of it may as well have been alive. I've never in 23 years had to return a steak to the chef and tell him to apply heat as I'm normally fine with it being medium-rare-rare, however this was completely in edible.<br/><br/>Oh and on top of that the music was so loud I had to be walked outside to explain to them my steak was by far not medium rare.<br/><br/>All in all would never come back, would never recommend. The chips were the only reason this managed to scrape a 1.5.

Nice cosy ambience with a snooker table and a fireplace. Food is decent and service is the same. I go there from time to time for a steak or other pub food and drinks and have never been disappointed. The only dish I did not like here was the pork ribs. Been going here for years, little run down but the African themes quite cool. Awesome menu with classic pub food, heaps of choice, big portions & is consistently Good. Great prices too, perfect for a couple of drinks and a cheap hearty meal

So average it's not funny, food looks good but lacks any real flavour . The bbq pork ribs are not bbq they are boiled! The lamb shanks dry! Actually everything was borderline inedible ! It's a shame because it has potential to be really good. Won't be back

We had lunch at Bar Africa on Sunday and had been meaning to go for some time. It was obviously a Country themed day with live very loud music. We had to get the menus ourselves, and our own water. There was a wine list, but no drinks list for beers etc, so I had to go to the bar to find what was available and order drinks, and the meals too. There was no service - the only time a serving person approached our table was to deliver our meals. We ordered the Bread & Dips and the Savoury Drinks Platter. The meals arrived promptly, were substantial, and looked good. BUT the salsa was missed from the Breads option and the corn nuggets from the Platter. The pita bread was deep fried and greasy and the chicken nuggets and fish had an unusual taste. There was also no sauces or dips with the platter other than the sour cream topping for the wedges. Much room for improvement, but I doubt we'll be back.

Just pray you dont get their new chef. Cant cook steak. Cant even make a salad. Oversalts everything. Doesnt understand what "you gave me split cheese sauce" means. Avoid.

One of my favourite little hide aways on the shore. It's got a great atmosphere and really workable bar area! Their food is pretty tasty but it's the usual bar food. Great outdoor space that you can dominate and not to mention great for kids. It's almost like having drinks in your backyard with the large picnic size tables. Very weird location but I think that's why I like it even more. It's quiet and private. Drink prices are the usual for the area and their selection of beverages is great. Staff are always friendly and honest. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Never ever go here!! <br/>Absolutely terrible. Do not go here. I never write reviews but I made an account just to write one! Rude!<br/><br/>I had a voucher. Went and firstly didn't get served. Didn't get any menus I had to get one myself. Then I had to order at the counter. Next when I went to give them the voucher because I printed one without a picture of food on it I wasn't allowed to use it. It had all of the codes on it yet still because no pictures of food on it wasn't able to use it!!!<br/><br/>The staff are sooo rude!! They don't care for customer service! Went to complain to the manager and the manager yelled at me and my family in the middle of the restaurant making sure everyone could hear her.<br/><br/>Waste of time and money!!! :(

Got a voucher, thinking it would be anything half decent that served South-African food for my partner who is from South Africa. The place is in the middle of nowhere, staff are rude and seem very over their lives and probably their jobs. Food was disgusting, tasteless, and orders came all at different times to our table. I have never bothered writing a review but this place deserves a no star rating and a bad bad review.

Have been here twice, both times the food was a disappointment. The ambiance is quite friendly, once they had live country music which took us by surprise but was entertaining. We played pool while we waited for our food, and afterwards had a nice long chat with a friend out on the outdoor heated patio. But the food was mediocre, sorry to say. They serve massive portions, but sadly they went a bit unappreciated because the food wasn't that tasty. I doubt we'll be back, too many other good places to eat on the North Shore.

Love pub grub. Had my birthday here and it was a fun night. Fab theme too. Reasonably priced. Will be back.

Terrible food and service. On entering the large empty complex on a Sunday evening we were greeted, rather ignored, by two guys behind the bar who only stopped talking to each other until I asked for a menu. As for the food it was none the better. For example the spare ribs and bbq chicken were old and dry and were topped off with the same sauce which was too sweet and cold. The onion rings were oily and unclassy. The crumbed fish was from a packet from the supermarket. The sirloin steak was tough and dry. During our meal they didnt offer us water or serviettes. Also they were late in giving us warm water to wash our hands from eating the ribs. The only good things was the salad, coleslaw and the South African beer. <br/><br/>My observation is that they try to do too much and are not focussing on doing less but well. For example the food was plentiful but the quality was well below average for $27. The venue itself is far too big and sends mixed messages to customers e.g. is it a bar or family restaurant? And what is with the red rose on the dining table? What if two guys are having dinner together and they have a rose between them? Isn't that awkward!

Ordered bangers &amp; mash on a cold wintery Wednesday lunchtime, feeling like some good old fashioned pub grub - menu stated sausages with mashed potatoes, fried onions, mushy peas and gravy. Sausages (3 of) were pale having been deep fried in obviously stale oil or fat, peas &amp; potato OK but no fried onions, in fact bits of chopped fresh green onion in a runny unappetising brown gravy. Overall a very sloppy presentation and meal. Partner had the mixed grill, nothing great, in fact meat pattie tasted sour - old mince perhaps? The sort of meal you'd expect in a low class joint.

Very good food, good verity, served quickly. Unusual to find food this good in a "pub" setting. I have eaten here regularly for 12 months with both small and large groups (10) and they are consistently good.<br/><br/>Even when we have gone for a meal when other "bar" functions such as "quiz night" are on they have accommodated us well as there is enough room to keep you separate.

I had an excellent dining experience at Bar Africa last Friday. I ordered a Mexican Chicken Burger, which was extremely good value for money as the portion was of a very reasonable size, and the onion rings are delicious! The mexican burger comes with cheese melted onto the chicken, and salsa on top which makes for a nice fresh burger in summer. The staff were all very plesant and helpful, overall a great meal in a great atmosphere.

My partner and I have had meals at Africa on several occasions, and for a range of different events. The meals, and service are both outstanding, with fabulous service on every occasion. We have introduced many family and friends who have all enjoyed the meals and dine in this fabulous 'African' themed bar and restaurant often now too. Well done to the Chef and the team, no request or dietary need too difficult. highly recommended and reasonable pricing

Lovely friendly social family place. Meals are well prices and more than I can eat always. Great menu selections, however my favourite is the Fettuccine. Well worth a visit. Highly receommended.

Have visited Bar Africa several times over the pass two years, it has now become my local and favourite place to have a drink and a nice meal. The staff are great and their food even better. Well priced, big portions and value for money. Recommended to anyone, any group that likes a friendly atmosphere.

Went here for a date nigh it was just ok. Not bad, but not great. We ate dinner inside, but it was still very cold. I had the BBQ ribs, there wasn't much sauce on them, the salad lacked flavour. My husband ordered a burger that was also mediocre. We had expected more. We won't be returning.
