Review White Cloud Spur - Albany

Abin Moses
This is a great place for steak and many more. We went as a group and ordered different items, mainly steak and ribs. We ordered buffalo wings as starter, but the wings were very dry, and we were expecting it to be juicy. However, that disappointment turned out into happiness when our main course arrived cos it was mean as. I ordered steak with prawns and it was really good. It also comes with chips and onion rings. The staff are pretty good from the moment we step into the restaurant. They sorted us out pretty fast and we started eating in under 20 min. The shop is also well maintained with different african articrafts. The food is a bit expensive but it's worth it. I believe they do have place upstairs to hold a small party, they also have a causal birthday thing where all the staff come together sing a birthday 🎵 . I have seen it both times when i was there. If you are a vegan, no worries, they do have a vegan option as well.

After a previous bad experience at this restaurant, I was very surprised to see new menus, new crockery, much better service and it appeared that the food tasted even better (Definitely looked much better - pics attached). The table was acceptably clean but the sauce bottles could have been cleaner. All in all, I was expecting a similar experience to the previous times and I was really pleasantly surprised by the changes implemented, it made for a wonderful evening with the family. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my gripes and invite me back to see the changes you said you had made.

Met up with friends here for a dinner and some drinks and it felt like I walked straight into spur in South Africa! The atmosphere was awesome, the Savanna’s and Castle’s were amazing, and the food!!! I’m so so SO stoked they had vegan options available! (Tip for Vegans Visiting: ask them for no sauce on the food, I suspect there may be egg in the sauce) My mates and I had an amazing time and the banter with the managers was super classic! Thank you for such a homey, heart filling experience White Cloud Spur! ♥️

Service is phenomenal 💯 had a lovely waitress who was very patient with us as we had 4 young children with us. Food was amazing cooked to perfection. The only thing i could fault was the fact that they have run out of a few things on the menu ie buffalo wings , bananas for banofee waffles.

We were unsure of what it would be like, given the hit and miss reviews but we are sooo glad we decided to go! It was like stepping through a portal and being right back in SA. The food was delicious, exactly like we remember Spur at home to be. The prices reflect the portion sizes so whilst it is a bit more expensive than your average kiwi restaurant, you are getting bang for your buck! Kieran was a fantastic waiter, very happy we sat in his section :)

Great food! Fantastic background music! The vibe is welcoming and energetic. We had a great family dinner. Kids played outside in the play area (we were able to keep an eye on them through the live video feed) kids were also able to play a bit of fornite while we waited for the food.

We went for breakfast on Saturday morning. Nice seating options. The staff were friendly. I really liked the fun background music. Food didn't take too long to arrive. Drinks were nice. We had burgers. Very filling. My baked potatoes was nice but I prefer it a bit more on the softer side. Reasonable price. We defo weren't the only people there, a steady stream of patrons, so it must be well enjoyed by others in the weekend A.M

The South African spur in Albany has recently changed ownership and the food has 100% upgraded . it tastes like spurs should taste . It taste like I remember it tasting when I lived in South Africa . the staff are friendly , caring and lovely and happy to see you it’s super kid friendly 2 well-deserved play areas for the kids and a Don Pedro for your birthday for free I like the Amarilla one ( probably spelt that wrong) The portions are definitely worth the money please give it a try you will not be disappointed and every Wednesday buy one burger get one free check it out you won’t regret it

Comfort food you can do once in a while. Good service. Yummy and reasonable priced. Huge space. Very comfortable seat. It’s not a fine dining place, this for everything I have experienced, it’s a 5 star.

Just read the reviews and had a chuckle….. I think you guys do what you do really well ….. food was ace as per the empty plates in the pic. Ignore the moaners …. The owners of the 1 star reviews……. If they want fine dining Spur is not where it’s at …. But if you want mountains of ribs and tasty chicken wings with badass blue cheese sauce ….. yussssssssss you have found it!!!

Highly recommended! We ordered the Thursday special rump steak and kiwi burger, and both of them are tasty! Although the waitress forgot the sauce we had ordered, they gave us afterwards immediately. Btw, the pretty staff in the counter was very friendly and nice!

Wow just as I remembered it! Food and menu was the same as any other Spur in SA. First time for me in 11yrs. Yummy! We were there on Friday night and it was very busy. Our waitress was very efficient and without sounding biased, I appreciated it that she was South African too. The place was quite noisy and there was no music playing. On-site parking is limited. Those were really the only things that was a bit of a let down but not off-putting. We will most definitely be back!!

Good steaks and side menus. Ask for relish as it will make your food taste even better. Slightly expensive relative to other places but good sized portions.

Most amazing food ever. I had the spur burger + peppermint tart and it was definitely a 10/10. Also great service. :)) Will definitely be going back again

My little girl had her birthday dinner here , the playground right beside our tables , event cameras monitors to watch the kids, very pleased with the excellent service and the tasty food, waiter was super helpful and friendly. Love this place

We were greeted by an unfortunate issue which the staff were very upfront with....the ventilation was not working in the kitchen. We were told that we could dine but couldn’t order anything from the grill to quote “Anything that you’d probably like to eat!” Just as we were walking out the door we the ventilation started to work and we were coined as the good luck charm.... so everything was on!! We ordered a Blue Steak, calamari rings, Spicy Chicken Nachos and 2 kids meals: fish fingers and chips and a cheeseburger and chips... all adequate taste wise and the steak was cooked as requested, blue, which was good. Overall a reasonable family restaurant meal.... although the pricing seems a little steep for what’s on offer in my opinion. No pictures of this meal... it didn’t really feel like it required that! Has a playground that the kids do enjoy.

Decided to try this restaurant for my birthday dinner. Was looking forward to the meals as pictures looked appetizing but we were wrong.<br/>First it took about 20 minutes for the entree to be served (buffalo wings & jalapeno poppers). Then after another 20 minutes our mains were served but some mistake with the order as they brought the wrong one out & seemed to have forgotten about my order.<br/><br/>Anyway the steaks were overcooked as we've ordered medium rare & medium but we got well done although some parts were medium. It was quite disappointing to be honest given the price of the meals. The other disappointing experience was the overall customer service. All their wait staff were very young and lacked the attention to detail. They forgot to provide cutleries for the entree and mains, although they kept asking if everything was okay they seemed to have missed our drinks. The amount of times they approached us asking if everything was okay was too intrusive. They were pleasant and welcoming and good on them for having a part time jobs at a young age but they need better training. We didn't want to complain about the overcooked steaks because to get another would take so long and we couldn't wait any longer. <br/><br/><br/>To be fair my Jalapeno rump steak had a nice flavour, just overcooked.<br/>I would come back to give them another chance however given the customer service I really wouldn't. I really hope that they re-train their wait staff attentiveness and overall service.

We went here for my daughters birthday. After we had booked I read some of the reviews and was sceptical about going. We went anyway and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. We didn’t wait long for service or the food to arrive as was expected. Will definitely recommend White Cloud Spur.

Great service by Clint who blew us away with his order memorising skill. Our experience at this establishment almost didnt happen because the 3 ladies at the front couldnt sit us anywhere despite many empty tables which were still left unseated when we left. We were a group of 14 including 5 kids. I told the ladies at the front that we could sit in separate tables if that helped. They turned us away until my husband suggested the table by the bar which could accommodate at least 14. They said ok. We were warned that there was no waiters for that table and we may not be attended to for a while. We sat anyway and Clint came not long after. He took all 14 orders without notepad, he memorised our order down to the side dishes and how we liked our steaks with No error. The food came, i ordered a medium chargrilled rump steak with mushroom and cheese sauce which was divine. The steak was cooked nicely (sightly too cooked for a medium but still acceptable), and it was perfect to have with the onion rings. South africans really know their bbq and i wouldnt have the onion rings any other way. It was a good steak day! Everyone else at the table who ordered other steaks, burgers, ribs and cheese prawns were also happy with their food, maybe except for 1 guest who got their ribs cold. Judging from the other reviews, this has happened to other guests before? Anyway, we could ask for the ribs to be sent back to the kitchen and be reheated, but we were too hungry to ask. Maybe next time. If anyone ever comes here, ask for the chilli sauce - It didnt disappoint. Overall it was a good experience. The kids loved the play area(s) and the place had a lovely atmosphere. But the winner was the service by Clint. Clint really turned the experience around and saved the day.

This must be the most unorganized place I’ve been in for a very long time. We waited 40 minutes for our food and the place wasn’t even half full. Half of the time they get the order wrong. Sauce normally cold. DO NOT order take aways. Same price as in restaurant but half of the portion. If they tell you 20minutes hope for 60. They normally don’t even have something to put the sauces in absolutely pathetic
Samy
The orders took soooo long to arrive resturant wasn't busy the sauces on the table not tasty no flavour just watery taste weird the long table seating not comfortable also waitresses look serious not smiling not friendly

Friendly dinning environment. Rmember order medium rare steak instead of medium well which is definitely overcooked. Recommend snack for fried mushroom.

Decided to try dine in here after a little doubt reading their review but one my friend loved this place. First of all felt like an expensive version of Denys. The ribs was Devine, however the steak was overcooked even though we ordered med to welldone. The meat so dry and a little chewy some part, my son who is a steak fans was very disappointed and he kept on saying "we should stick with bushman grill" and he didn't finish the steak. The onion ring which is not a ring also very oily and looks like an onion battered crumble. They charged $6.50 for an apple juice so i thought it would be a real apple juice not just a keri juice. Definitely over price for the quality of their food.

Went here a few weeks ago and ordered the pepper fillet. It was over cooked. The service wasn't exactly friendly when I let the person serving us know.<br/><br/>I came here after a mate had recommended it. But probably won't be back anytime soon.

Went for dinner with my partner last friday for dinner. We got the t-bone streak, the lazy aged steak and a peppermint crisp cheesecake to share. The waitress we had was so polite and helpful. The owner even came around to see if we were alright which was great. Steaks were the best we've ever had! And dessert was delicious too. Absolutely loved the atmosphere and our meals. Will be back for sure!

Similar to other reviews, the food is so-so but it was a great place for family with kids since it has playground and other entertainment. The service is good, staffs are friendly and helpful.

Environment 5/5<br/>Staff 5/5<br/>Playground 5/5<br/>Food 3/5<br/>Overall rating 4/5<br/><br/>I went there on a Friday night and I can tell it’s a restaurant loved by local community. Heaps of customers with families came here and the kids enjoyed it most. My daughter loves their outdoor playground. She can play with her friends and I can have a relaxing moment with mine. The staffs are friendly and nice, remove those finished plate on time. The food is average.<br/>I will definitely be back because my little one has already repeated asked for it. :)

4 year olds choice of where to dine - so here we are at Spur - Kids area is great - food is ok but on the expensive side for the “family theme restaurant” setting. After 30 mins of no food action Miss 4 was starving - we asked twice for a timeline on the food - neither the manager or waitress bothered to communicate - perhaps get the kids meals out first White Cloud? Gave 2 stars as MR ate all his steak and said it was 👍 and our waitress with too big a section was really trying her best.

Third visit to Spur after two disappointing experiences in 2016. <br/><br/>Ordered Mushroom and Chilli Poppers as a starter, requested the mains to not come out with the starter. Ordered a Savannah but it was out of stock so opted for a Sol. The beer arrived opened and flat. Not surprising because it expires in May 2019 meaning it was a month away from expiry and suggested that it had been sitting in stock from 2017. The Babydoll Rose appeared to have also been bad and the glass was dirty on the underside. We had barely finished our starter because the mushrooms were piping hot whilst the chilli poppers were flattened and warm ( they looked like McDonald’s chicken nuggets) when the Chicken and Cheesy Prawn main with fries and medium New York sirloin with baked potato came out much to our surprise but then again it’s not like the same thing didn’t happen two years ago. The sirloin arrived with no baked potato so I pointed that out to the server who was a different person to the waitress and was told that it would get sorted. I moved the fries to a side plate in anticipation of the baked potato but by the time I finished my steak which was medium-rare and bloody, I decided to ask Michaela, the waitress to please tell me what I had ordered and she confirmed what she had taken down. I politely told her that it seemed like this was a kitchen error which she clearly had no clue about. I told her I was promised the baked potato but given the fact that the steak was finished and I had lost my appetite I didn’t want the baked potato anymore. I suggested that the baked potato be deducted from the total bill. At this point it is with mentioning that if she had spent more time checking on our table (at least once to find out if our meal was ok) , this situation may have been avoided. She spent plenty of time looking after the other three tables in the area but perhaps it was because we did not have a thick enough Afrikaans accent like the surrounding patrons or perhaps she was intimidated by my pleasant and friendly tone even though the experience went from bad to worse. We requested a take-away for what was left of the chicken and were handed a container. Odd that we had to pack up our own takeaway but then again perhaps this is the policy because if the kitchen staff can’t get an order or meal right, then packing food into a container is clearly something that needs training and certification beyond whatever they have learnt from Spur’s customer service, hospitality and culinarily training. When we got up to pay, I conveniently overheard Michaela telling the front of house staff member that the issue was with us and “just take off like 10%”. <br/>We were asked “mumble mumble sides?” To which I replied “sorry, what was that ?” The front of house staff member proceeded to print the receipt and show it to us. (Not a word mentioned). I then said, the baked potato did not arrive to which she seemed surprised and then I said very politely, “So that’s why you can take off the 10%”. We paid and left without tipping. <br/><br/>I can see the trend of bad reviews and thought that I would not be dissuaded by other people’s experience because no business in NZ could be running for two years and not be able to get the basics right. Clearly I was wrong!<br/><br/>Your wait staff need additional training and probably need to be a little bit older. Stop trying to save money by leveraging youth rates because by paying peanuts you will only get monkeys. Furthermore, if your Kitchen staff are also on minimum wage then same principle applies. Perhaps consider shutting down temporarily, retraining and relaunching. <br/><br/>$100 wasted. We could have ordered burgers from Burger King or McDonald’s for a fraction of the price and been far more satisfied. <br/><br/>Contact me to discuss via email (Emile.perumal@gmail.com) and I can provide you my phone number but I expect no less than a full refund to my bank account, an apology and a commitment that the owner will do something to fix the reputation of South African cuisine because your restaurant and service has made myself embarrassed to be considered a South African in New Zealand.

Staffs was really friendly and nice. We ordered 2 main dishes and get 2 free dish from kid's menu. Its a Tuesday promotion... Kids get their free order. Taste wise is average, overall i enjoyed!<br/>

Good place for family if you have kids and want to go out for dinner, pricey for the quality of food you get. Everyone at our table were really disappointed in their meals, wouldn’t come here again purely on a food side of things. Staff are really friendly though.

Went here for dinner tonight first time. I got the chicken bacon salad.. The portion was so tiny for $20....just a normal breakfast bowl. My partner got the stacked grilled chicken burger. $30. The burger was really small 2 tiny pieces of chicken, did not cover burger. The fries also were not cooked enough.. Onion rings were like bits of batter. The waitress was really nice, as was the lady at checkout counter. She was very considerate and gave us discount on bill. Very small portions for very high prices.. Also music was blaring from kitchen, could not have conversation at table. Don't think we will be back again.... Very disappointing 😞

We had a small group of 10-11 pers on a quiet Weds night, however the car park outside was nearly full.<br/><br/>The waitress and service in general was very good, however the limited beer menu was a let down - the only decent one being the now (DB owned and brewed) Black Dog Chomp.<br/><br/>Food was hit n miss, the burgers and steaks were average to good - however the ribs looked and tasted great. The chips ranged from soggy to crispy.<br/><br/>Deserts were also average, some brownies were burnt, the ice creme on the waffles was terrible (it reminded me of Denny's).<br/><br/>Next time I think the ribs will be the go, and no dessert.

My husband and I came here about 2 months ago. I was super excited because this was my favourite restaurant back home. My husband ordered the veggie burger (stacked) + extra fries, he absolutely loved it. I had the chicken burger + wings and for dessert chocolate mousse with ice cream. They were all delicious exactly how I remember them. Once I tasted the ice cream I felt like I was back home. <br/><br/>Only a few things that can be changed the noise from staff in the kitchen (could hear them talking their own stories and we were sitting quite far from the kitchen), and adding more heaters to the place, even though it was a sunny morning it was still cold out. Apart from that I’d be happy to come again. If you could cater for allergies I’d happily bring my kids too.

We went for lunch around 11am on a Sunday so missed the busy rush which you normally read about.<br/><br/>The cheesy garlic prawns was amazing - a must when visiting. My partner had surf and turf steak which was good and I had calamari and chips, it was too oily but still good.<br/><br/>The staff were friendly and service was efficient. A suggestion is some type of uniform for staff. Some were in a shirt/jacket which was obviously uniform, whereas others were in hoodies that didn't look very presentable.<br/><br/>Overall, my childhood memories were relived and we had an enjoyable time there.
Tracy.carmona
Such a family friendly restaurant. Has a play area for kids, and the staff were very accommodating in answering about allergy info in the food. Our waitress was even checking the ketchup ingredients for me (thank you!) We ordered the pork ribs + calamari combo. We needed to wait a while for the food to arrive, but they upgraded our pork ribs to 600grams - from the original 400grams for making us wait :) The ribs were done quite well, not chewy at all. However I think they can improve their chips a little bit, but that’s a minor issue.<br/><br/>For dessert we ordered the classic waffle with ice cream. The waffle was quite cakey - depends what you prefer i guess. <br/><br/>Overall, it was an awesome lunch catching up with friends. Didn’t feel like we were rushed at all and we were there for a good two hours. Thanks for having us!
Chelsea.huang
Very shocking and disappointing service. We waited just over TWO FRIGGIN HOURS for our food. To add to that, we had a 4 and a 7 year old who was bored and hungry. I also saw your chef playing on his phone as opposed to doing his job. After an hour and a half of waiting we consulted one of your waitresses and asked then what was going on with our meals and she said "oh it usually takes this long" SERIOUSLY? you expect customers to wait this long for their meal? and when a group of customers came speaking Afrikaans they got their meals within 25 minutes of arrival (and they came about an hour after we did). If you are gonna judge and determine the speed of service according to ethnicity, I'll happily take my money somewhere else. To add to that the seats are too close together creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. Definitely my first and last time coming here. Really not impressed!!!!

Great venue for children, very family orientated restaurant. Car park was absolutely packed, additional parking sign for across the road but wasn't clear where? Quite busy inside, and cold but we were offered blankets which was weird yet very nice! Service was average apart from the girl that waited our table, she was really lovely and attentive. The manager? was very friendly and attentive too. The food was absolutely amazing, 100%! I have read reviews that the onion rings and fries were too oily, I have no idea why that's a bad thing, I loved them! I had the schnitzel and my partner and mother had the Garlic Prawn Steak which I tried and I really liked that too. Our kiddo had chicken nuggets and a Bubblegum Milkshake. Reasonably priced! Just wish it was warmer and that some of the staff were more friendly, as we left and said bye the two girls by the door/entrance didn't even look our way. There was also a fire drill halfway through our meal and we had to go outside but that didn't last too long, we came back in and our food was still warm, they did offer to reheat or remake which was nice. All in all I would definitely come back, in Summer ;-)

My partner and I went twice last year and I am still disappointed that Spur is so disappointing. <br/><br/>First time we ordered steak, it was so hard (I asked for medium rare) and dry that I laughed. The chips was cold and I never waste potatoes but these I did. <br/><br/>Second time we went to try the ribs. My partner’s ribs came cold, dry and well overdone. When the waiter asked how it was we were honest. Not long after that the chef came with a steamy half rack, so fresh it smelt amazing and was so juicy! We questioned why does the food not just come like this in the first place? He loved the second piece however because we were disappointed twice before being honest, we vowed to not return again. <br/><br/>My buffalo wings I was told are not spicy to accommodate the Kiwi tongue, so I questioned the staff if it was a Kiwi restaurant or a South African restaurant? You do not expect an Asian restaurant to sweeten their chilli meals for the Kiwi tongue so why should a South African restaurant disappoint the people who know their food to accommodate the minority of customers they will receive??? Why not do what Nandos and Indian cuisine do and ask mild, medium or hot?
Godfrey Sponneck
We came for Sunday Lunch today 1st July 2018 and the place was pumping!  So obviously still popular …. The service and food was great and no hang-ups there !  Maybe we just waited a bit longer than usual because there was a big SA Family Party ahead of us taking all the kitchen staff to satisfy them first since they ordered first.  Otherwise, All Good Auckland Spur!!

We had dinner here last night and this is our first time too. We were a bit skeptical after reading mixed reviews about them but thought we will give it a go. <br/><br/>The whole experience was a disappointing one especially with the freezing atmosphere in there. The place was so so cold and this has a direct affect on our dining experience-Miserable. There were blankets offered but could not not fix the problem of the place being unbelievably cold and the few heaters going is just not enough to even warm up one third of the place. We expressed this with the waiter and told her that we wanted to leave , but she opted to move us to a warmer place, which wasn’t the case as the whole restaurant is just cold!!! <br/><br/>Food didn’t remain hot/warm for very long as obviously one could figure out that the place being cold, nothing would stay warm for long. Staff were friendly and helpful but for whatever reason the place is not being heated up is just beyond me!!! Diners should be advised at the time of booking that the place doesn’t have any form of heating so family like ours should have a choice!! Our hard earned money literally went down the drain last night and it was just not worth a s for cent!!!

We visited Spur on Sunday 24.06.18 food was great but service was poor. We got our food in drips and drabs. My husband's food who was last to arrive came when all of us were done eating after having to ask our waitress and a manager when it's coming. Eventually the manager came with it and her excuse was she's not sure where/ how it got lost from our order. 1 of us ordered a Cheddamalt steak which she requested the sauce be on the side in a little sauce bowl not on the steak. When the steak came the sauce was on the steak and the excuse was they ran out of little sauce bowls. In the meantime we had 2 empty little sauce bowls sitting on our table from starters which we had finished ages before our mains arrived and nobody came to clear the table until our waitress brought our mains to the table.

I'm led to understand that this is a part of a South African restaurant chain so I was interested to try it out.<br/><br/>We turned up on a Saturday night. Apparently you can't book tables for such small numbers and it's a first-come-first-served basis. The trick is to arrive early like we did.<br/><br/>I had the ribs & wings and my partner had some kind of pasta dish. The food was okay but I feel that I could make better ribs than theirs.<br/><br/>That isn't to say it was bad... Just that I had higher expectations given SA people's love of ribs.<br/><br/>Decor was faux American Indian but done in a tasteful manner. Staff were friendly and attentive. It is a distance for me to drive but otherwise, I'd consider returning.
Janice McCartain Dagg
My cousin had recommended this place so we came here for dinner. It was a Saturday night 6PM and the carpark was packed as was the Restaurant itself. Lucky we had a booking. There was American Indian themed decor all over the place which  I thought was cool. It's also a family restaurant so there was a lot of noise. <br/><br/>Service was friendly. We had the Ribs and Buffalo Wings, Crispy Cheesy Garlic Roll to share between us. The Garlic Roll was average. The Ribs came as a slab, which was different, you had to cut it up yourself. Buffalo Wings were tasty. This meal also came with Chips and Fried Onion Bits which were nice but quite oily. I found the Ribs okay, not as good as some others that I have had. <br/><br/>We ordered some take away dishes when we ordered our dessert. My cousin had the Peppermint Crisp Tart, I had the Chocolate Brownie. Our takeaway order arrived 15 mins max after we ordered. Dessert was delayed. 57 mins after having placed the order we asked where it was. It was explained to us that the order had been prepared but not delivered as the order slip had been lost. We were offered it free of charge with profuse apologies. It arrived 6 minutes after having seen the waitress. We both enjoyed our desserts.<br/><br/>That issue was handled well. Still it would have been better had it not occured at all. It is a very noisy restaurant so if you are looking for a quiet meal, I would give this place a miss. Overall, I would like to come back to try other items on the menu and to have that delicious Brownie again.

Was really keen to try this restaurant even though it had some bad reviews. Should have listen to bad reviews. Calamari was rubbery and fish was to smelly to eat. My son's burger was over cooked and the ribs tasteless. I noticed that the management keeps replying to contact the customer services. Why they don't seem to be listening.
Krayster82
Shit food, “steak w cheesy jalapeños “ haha the cheese was rock hard, chewy steak! Shit the fries look like they been double cooked , lifeless soggy! And the onion rings what the hell was that!! My friend had his burger re-done twice, but the young waitress was pretty good, then the cashier, what kind off POS u guys using, don’t even know how spit the bill!!! I was happy when I got there , came out disappointed and hungry!! Need a good manager and a new head chef!!!

Looked like a pretty awesome restaurant for the kids we were bringing to dine with having a playground and kids corner however the food was a true surprise and also the reason I will never return here. <br/>Oily, undercooked and flavourless is the comments I would use to describe my dining experience here which is a total disappointment as it looked like a pretty cool place from the outside - don’t be fooled! Tables are super close together creating an uncomfortable environment and staff, wow, can I definitely recommend some sort of training for them! Our waitress couldn’t tell us what was in the meals when asked, messed up our order and to top it off when we asked what was in the sauce bottles in the tables she replied with “I don’t know but I think it’s good on chips” great choice of staff here! Definitely won’t be returning.

Just come back from the White Cloud Spur.  Service was so slow, drinks took ages to come.  Meal was average, chips were cold.  Hostess did not bother to check on us during our meal.  Kids running around the place, which is a complete Health & Safety issue with food and trays of drinks being carried around.  Staff too busy clapping and singing happy birthday to patrons to the detriment of their service. Won't rush back to go there!
Alex Hulme
Would not recommend eating here, the food tasted like it was made by someone who hates food. The sauce on my steak smelled like dirty nappies and burnt hair.
Fatmaneatingfood
How this place got anything more than a 1 star is beyond me. "Aged" steak?! What...aged for a day from the freezer? Honestly. "Hot" wings? Missed the hot bit. It only gets a 1 star because I had to give it something. Possibly the worst meal I have ever eaten...and I remember eating mud as a child. Good day
Chris Lawrence
So bad I don't really even want to fill the required text minimum. But here goes; bad. Bad if you are kiwi. Bad if you are from South Africa I'm told also.
Sandra Danforth
Had a tasty good  priced meal here. But would be great if they had a small bar where you could wait until a table comes free. Its hard to have to sit waiting for a table for 40  minutes doing nothing.
Emily Hargreaves
I love this place because of how family friendly it is, means I can actually go out for dinner with my young family. The peppermint tart is the best thing on the menu. Everything else is quite average, if the food was better I would give 5 stars

We have been eager to taste their ribs as we always drive to northcote to satisfy our rib cravings. And since this restaurant is near where we live we gave it a shot. My husband booked a reservation with this restaurant for us to have dinner with our kids on a Friday night.<br/><br/>We arrived at 7pm as booked, we were headed upstairs by the person in the counter. We were seated and given menus and then she left. After 2 minutes of looking on the menu we were ready to order but no one’s there to take our orders. So we waited for 10-15 mins before my husband decided to go downstairs and approach the same girl to tell her we are ready to order, so she went up again and took our orders. We ordered mixed platters for starters as our kids were really hungry. <br/><br/>So orders started coming up after 10 mins but to our surprise the servers got the orders mixed up and had to ask each table if they ordered this and that. Our starters came in along with the two milk shakes for our kids and finished the starters real fast as the kids were really hungry.<br/><br/>After an hour of waiting, our mains has not arrived. We approached one of the girls taking the orders thrice and asked what happened to our orders she said she will check and to our surprise the people who came 40 mins after us were served in just 15 mins after placing their orders. We were really pissed off as our kids were really hungry, we asked the girl if we can speak with the manager which she agreed but no manager showed up until we decided to leave. We were at the counter ready to pay the starters and milkshakes that were served to us. And only during that time i saw the girl approached the manager to tell him that we were about to leave. <br/><br/>What an awful way to end the day! We will never go back to this restaurant ever again! If I can only leave a rating of a negative i would freaking do it.<br/><br/>We should have taken the time to drive to Northcote instead of wasting our evening with this restaurant.<br/><br/>If you want an enjoyable and satisfying dinner don’t waste your time spending it here.

Dined here on a Saturday - while they were busy, the service was polite, the food came super quickly and my god was it amazing. The steak was absolutely beautiful and the peppermint crisp tart was the best way to finish it off! I’ve never been here before but I’ll definitely be back - the atmosphere was awesome, and the food was faultless!

Best steaks ever! So tender and delicious. Reminds me of the food back in Africa, they have done well in keeping with their standards. The staff are very friendly, though they were busy they never forgot about us and the food came quickly. Well done to the chefs who I’m sure work very hard. New favourite restaurant

We had such a great experience at Spur! I booked online (they seemed to have no record of the booking but had room for us easily!). We ordered Ribs, calamari and crumbled mushrooms, the cheesy garlic prawns and two of the chicken schnitzel meals (can’t remember what ones), the cheesy steak, and the con carne steak. Pretty much everything was delicious! The calamari was a bit average, but omg the prawns!!!! The ribs!! And I just wanted to give a special mention to our server Jade, she was awesome! So lovely, picked up on a birthday that we were celebrating and offered the birthday song etc. Decent prices too. $222 for 5 people! We will definitely be back!!!!

Been wanting to come here since it opened and finally have. The ribs were delicious and succulent however the calamari and fries were way too oily for my liking. The cheesecake was on point and so too was the ice cream that came with it. Overall the staff were friendly. I would suggest that they offer bowls of water and lemon when serving ribs as we all know how messy that can get because we had to ask for that.

Felt like I was dining in a great hall from Game of Thrones at Spur. It's one vast cavernous room and damn cold... Most of the waitstaff were working in puffer jackets.<br/><br/>No feast to be had here as the food was lifeless with soggy, limp calamari and bland burgers. The calamari had a bitter aftertaste similar to when the oil hasn't been changed in a while. Onion rings tasted pretty good but the oil probably inched me closer to a heart attack.<br/><br/>5/5 for service 😊

Heard a lot about this place, so tried it out. Sorry, won't go again as it did not live up to my expectations. Food so-so, the place is very big and everything echoes, waitresses not overly friendly.

Awesome place for families. Lovely food and good value. Friendly staff who looked after us and the kids well. Kids loved the playground outside.

I don't usually write reviews, but I feel it in the best interest of White Cloud Spur to hear back from a very disappointed, concerned patron. <br/>We have been to White Cloud spur a few times and have been happy as clams with the service and food, however this Sunday 18-2-2018 we went there to celebrate 2 birthdays and walked out with a very different view of White Cloud Spur. <br/>When we arrived we were shown to our table by a very friendly but very inexperienced waitress.<br/>I understand they have to learn somewhere, but maybe give them a smaller table to start with, not a table of 8. So we had some difficulty getting our order placed. But we accepted she was still learning and made no big deal of it.<br/>Then she returned not once but I would say more than 5 times to inform us that something on our order was not available. From soft drinks to beer/draught to main meals to deserts. We had to reorder every time and had to choose things from the menu that we really were not after.<br/>The food was really good as usual, and the service was friendly as we were used to, but the fact that so many things that they had on their menu were not in stock, left us disappointed and concerned that, if it goes on like this, the future of this lovely piece of South African culture will not survive. <br/>I hope this makes it to the owner and management of White Cloud Spur, I'm sure this is something small for you to resolve and get your restaurant back on the right track.

Friday night, my family and I (3 of us) waited 30 minutes for drinks and a further 30 minutes for burgers, we had a really young waiter - who must have been in training and was getting no support at all from his section manager. My husband and I were both trained in Spur (SA) my husband by the founder Alan Amber. and we were so disappointed by the lack of service. The only highlight of the evening was a waiter named Cameron that apologised most profusely and offered us a free dessert. To the owners, Cameron is management material. When challenged the manager who was on the pass, wouldn't come and talk to us in person. All this in a restaurant that wasn't particularly busy!

Just had dinner with my family. Ribs an buffalo wings, awesome. Service was horrendous. Manager was noncommittal when told that we waited half an hour after being seated just to get a drink and then a further half an hour do get served. Really shabby. Will never go back. Quite pricey for really bad service. No thanks

Visited for the first time and had a wonderful experience. Greeters at the door were friendly and sat us right away in a booth. We added to our order ten minutes after the original food order as our friend was joining and they still managed to bring it out together. Our waiter Keagan was fantastic and when he went to place my burger down noticed it was lacking the cheese I had asked for so quickly whipped it back to the kitchen and got some added. He checked on us the right amount of times and couldn’t fault the service.<br/>Only comment would be the food could of been a little hotter but that was no bother.

Had been recommended this place as an alternative to taking kids to lone star. 8 year old loved it as his meal pretty basic as per most kids menus so can’t get that too wrong plus they had a kids area. <br/>Our meals were totally underwhelming. Chicken salad very very basic, Small portion and chicken way too over cooked. <br/>Loud atmosphere because it was really busy. <br/>Staff were friendly and helpful but sorry this is just not somewhere I’d choose to go again.

Not even close to the original. Went for dinner as a family on 18 Jan. Was met with a vomit smell from the menus. Food eventually came. The ribs I ordered tasted old and tasteless and the onion rings looks like they been reused. Service was ok but boy.. I'll never go back.

White cloud spur has an awesome playground for the kids.<br/>Friendly staff with great food.<br/>With the chicken schnitzel being my favourite.<br/>Definitely recommended.

We decided on a whim to have take away tonight so therefore rocked up to the reception area. Chief Greeter was very friendly always an advantage.Lots to choose from but the Ribs and wings grabbed our attention. 400gm of ribs with chicken only $5 more than the ribs on their own.<br/>Ordered with the veggies. Let me tell you the story of the Jalepeno poppers, They didn't make it home. Partner ate them all before we got home.<br/>The ribs were juicy and meaty, cooked to perfection, meat dropping off the bones. The vegetables were fantastic. A spinach mix with a kumara and carrot<br/>The place looked like it was buzzing tonight and we will be back, they have many specials available.

We went here with our family with young children and had the most wonderful waitress Katelyn. Unfortunately the male staff were amazingly arrogant and rude to my 8.5month pregnant daughter. And no amount of polite discussion would help that staff member (Cameron) see that as we were the customer spending over $200 on a meal we were right. This was all over a pathetic plate of chips that we ordered but then told couldn't have cause it was not on the menu. Certainly a place I would not recommend. We also noticed other customers had similar issues but there was no need for such rudeness. Good was over the top huge and average to say the least.

Took my mom here for her birthday on Tuesday night. Atmosphere was lovely, staff were so friendly. We ordered the 25$ ribs special, and it ended up taking longer than expected to come out. We didn't mind, just figured the kitchen was backed up, but some staff members came out and apologised that there was a glitch in the ticket system and our order was missed, so they added extra ribs to our meals. We didn't mind at all but totally loved the generosity of the staff to add on to our meals for our wait. Food tasted incredible and we walked away raving about the place. My mother said it was the best dinner she's had all year. Well done spur, we'll be back again.

Anyone up for a quick trip back home to sunny SA?  Drive on past White Cloud Spur!<br/><br/>I could smell that all too familiar smell down the road leading up to Spur.  Such memories and nostalgia!<br/><br/>I had ordered a takeaway and gone to pick up.  It was a long trip there and a long trip back home.  Understandably, this Spur needs to be where it is for the Saffa's otherwise it just won't work. <br/><br/>Food was cold when I got home but still fantastic.  Absolutely enjoyed every morsel.  Definitely gotta go back to sit down and eat there as the food comes out of the kitchen. <br/><br/>Happiness is Spur!  Though it would be great if there was a delivery service available for the CBD.  I would spend $20 for delivery. Saves me time.

Great service..great food.. lovely atmosphere... really enjoy going to this place and very highly recommended. <br/><br/>Price is Ok, because you pay what you get for. Certainly a lot better than many other places claiming to be a steak house.
Aman
Best steaks in town and know how to cook it just right and the speed of service is amazing even though they are so busy and also the staff never forgets about you.
Simone
So disappointed with this place. The first time we visited the food was below average and decided we would give them a second chance by going there again. Sad to say, the standards have dropped even lower. Steak is chewy and full of sinue. Beef burger mince is low quality and tasteless. First time we went we got full sized mushrooms now to see they have halved them yet are giving you the same amount. Won’t be returning again
Phillip Van Rensburg
Food was exactly what I expected, 100% Spur. I had the Ribs with chips and was impressed by the service and quality of the food. Will definitely go back!

Yum! Great value for price, and looked like a great place to take the kids. Hubby had an amazing steak and the burger was super tasty. <br/>Staff quite friendly, and the atmosphere was good too. <br/>Such large portions.<br/>So busy on a week night and managed really well by the staff. <br/>Parking a bit crap, but overall great experience.<br/>
Sarah Cammell
The food was cold, service wasn't particularly great, despite prior booking we got seated at a table far too small for the group size, no atmosphere, lots of options not available from the menu - unfortunately we would never go back!
Lisa Loves Good Food
Really really American feeling environment. The staff are all school kids which means the service is very average. And the food is just average too. Very very over priced and not that great at all. For what you pay you would expect a lot more than you get.
Raspberry Beret
Great place to come for lunch with the family.  Very child friendly.  The service is outstanding, the food well priced.  Burgers are excellent, the steak is good and plentiful, and you have a choice of sides - chips, baked spud or salad.
Eli A
Been here twice- been disappointed twice :-( Steak was overcooked the first time and served with onion floss parading as onion rings. The second time we got the wings and poppers starter- both of which were good. This was followed by an extremely bloody 'medium-rare' steak that was not well rested- bleeding on the wooden board as it came to the table- redeemed partially by the yummy hot veg. Chips were below average. No chance to earn a third strike here- already out!
Ronel Kapp
Came here for a Saturday lunch. I had the steak with jalapenos and cheese sauce. The steak was tender and i really enjoyed it, i feel however that the cheese sauce was leaning a bit more towards a white sauce. Maybe use a slightly stronger cheese? I had food envy when a plate of ribs came past so i will be back to sample it! When we left it was pouring with rain and the waitress ( sorry i didnt catch her name) offered to walk us to our car with an umbrella! What a nice thought!
Deb Knocker
A very disappointing visit. The service was excellent but the food was extremely disappointing. My husband and I had fish and calamari. (I know it's a steak house but they have seafood on the menu.) The calamari was nice, as was my husband's fish. My fish however had a very strong unpleasant taste - like fish gets when it's been in the freezer too long. I also had a side order of hot vegetables and although the spinach was okay (not great like the SA Spurs), I had to leave a lot of the pumpkin as it was very watery. My mother enjoyed her sauce burger with baked potato but said the mushroom sauce tasted like it came from a tin. Sorry Spur, but we won't be back.

First time I went here with my South African friends as a nostalgia thing and had the Chicken bacon guacamole burger and it changed my life, love the onion pieces with the fries too they are orgasmic- so! After one of the worst hangovers of my life I drove an hour to have this delicious burger again, as they do takeaway. After the painful hour drive home I open my burger and what do I see? Just a piece of lettuce and chicken. No guac no bacon no ANYTHING?! It even had the name of the burger written on the box. Insane how it could have been so wrong and for $21?! heartbreaking.<br/>

Came here lastnight for a birthday dinner.<br/>We ordered some appetizers to share..tried the crumbed mushrooms, chilli poppers and buffalo wings. The waitress served it without any side plates which made the eating experience really messy. The appetizers were below average in my opinion. The mushrooms and chilli poppers were so bland, didn't enjoy it at all. However the buffalo wings were pretty yum (especially the basting) .<br/>For mains i ordered the rib and chicken combo with chips and onion rings. The ribs were ridiculously overcooked which was a shame because their spur basting was amazing! The chicken marinated with peri peri sauce was cooked really well! But the basting did taste abit bitter once I kept eating it. The chips were by far the best!! Seriously seasoned to perfection 😍 but the onion rings were a total let down. Extremely pale and soggy.<br/>My partner got the chicken schnitzel which was delicious.<br/>The service here was quite poor...was so hard to get cutlery or serviettes and we ended up getting dirty plates when we cut the cake which was a real put off :( but on the plus side the staff did do a special little tune for the birthday boy which was really nice :)<br/><br/>Overall I expected it to be so much better considering the prices.
Christy Leung
Ordered ribs and chips and a portion of buffalo wings for takeaway. Food is tasty but it'd be even better if it's hotter (we live two minutes away from spur).
Angel
Love this place! Cool afmosphere & design, I Got medium rear steak and salad, was cooked perfectly & the flavour was amazing! Would definitely be going here again 10/10

I used to live spur growing up. Was happy to hear that one was opening here.<br/>Finally tried it about a month ago on a Friday night.<br/>I had a calamari and rib combo. I was too excited and forgot to take a photo. <br/>Service was excellent. The food was really good too. Not 100% the same. Some items were slightly better some not, but no big complaints. I obviously had a different expectation to someone who has never dined there before.<br/>Overall the experience was good and I would like to go again!<br/>
Mark Stevens
The service was great, the food arrived quickly and my steak was cooked perfectly. Absolutely nothing to complain about. We have been here a number of times and have never been disappointed.

Was ok,nothing special.Very friendly staff.Food was good.Far to drive for us and waited a while before we could park. Was over $100 for 2 burgers, a beer and tea.

Went here last night wasn't as busy as it normally is, drinks took so long for a 5 drinks witch was a let down and once we ordered meals a few off us got our meals but my partners meal we had to send back because it was burnt to a crisp ( Hawaiian chicken schitszel) but not just that it was more of a whole chicken breast not even a schitszel. Once we got it back it was a slight bit better but still burnt. And then they tell us that thats how it should be.

6 of us dined here on a Saturday evening, we were seated quickly and drinks order was taken by an excellent waitress. The food came out quickly.  The food was excellent.  To start with I had a the wings which were nice but i expected them to be a little spicier. For main i had the 21 day  old aged steak, it was cooked perfectly medium rare, and to end with i had the the chocolate mousse which was excellent. The rest of the meals on the table were good and enjoyed by all.<br/>One of the best things about this place is the fact they have a few areas set a side to entertain children like games consoles and slides.<br/><br/>All in all it was an excellent place to eat with great food, efficient and friendly staff and an excellent atmosphere

We went to Spur in Albany last night as we are fans of BBQ style food and one of us is very much a meat lover. We had read some mixed reviews but decided to make our own assessments. The decor is ethnic, relatively spacious and airy, and it looks very clean and tidy. We were warmly welcomed, seated and provided with drinks quickly and efficiently. We chose a sharing plate of crumbed mushrooms and chilli poppers, which were superb and quickly eaten. We highly recommend both of these - definitely moreish ! Our mains of a Rump steak/chicken wings combo with baked potato, and a Texan fried chicken burger with chips and onion rings were also delivered very promptly. The steak was cooked blue (as ordered) and was tender and delicious. The chicken wings (8), were however disappointingly dry and tough, and fairly tasteless. The breast of chicken in the burger however was moist and succulent, and the fries and onion rings were very good. Overall a great place for a grill/BBQ steak house style of food, and worth a revisit.

We went to the Spur for dinner on my birthday on a Wednesday night. The place itself is great with authentic decor and lots of space. The place was, for a Wednesday night, quite busy. The service was good and we were seated promptly, our waiter was also good with no issues, the drinks were a bit slow to arrive. The food was a real hit and miss. Members of our party had the chicken schnitzels and they were quite happy with it as well as the fillet steak, although the fillet was quite small for the price. My wife had the cheddamelt steak which has always been a her favourite and I ordered a rump steak with a mushroom sauce. It was a tale of 2 steaks for both of us. Half of the steak was tough and very chewy, it was borderline inedible. The quality of the rump steak was so sub-standard that I am amazed that they would serve it. For $29, I would expected a good quality piece of steak with minimal fat and sinew, but I got the opposite. I was very disappointed with steak. The mushroom sauce had a horrible taste and tasted like something straight from a packet. The barbecue sauce at the table was diluted an not usable at all. <br/><br/>I usually go to a Spur when I go to SA, and what we experienced last night is a very long way off from the real deal. It is such a pity because this place has a lot of potential to become a standout restaurant, but they will have to bring the quality of the food in line with the prices they charge because they are quite expensive.

We went to spurs on a Tuesday night and booked for four at 6.30 online. We instantly received a email confirmation that was blank except for the heading, -booking at spurs. We needed to change the booking time and number of people going a couple of days later and again did this online and unfortunately then seemed to have two different bookings.<br/><br/>We went at the allocated time and the restaurant looked great, the service was good ,prices reasonable and the drinks came quickly. However my daughters steak was oily with a lot of fat in it. The onion rings were however very different to anything else you would get here and were a nice change. <br/><br/><br/>I ordered a burger and confirmed with the waiter that I only wanted half the meal. No sides whatsoever which is a large part of the meal. The burger pattie wasn't homemade ,it tasted straight from the freezer and the guacamole was straight from a packet and there wasn't much there. <br/><br/>When we left I was charged for the whole meal even though I had only ordered half. I did query it. Why would you charge for food you hadn't ordered and didn't eat???!!!!!<br/><br/><br/>Don't know if we will be back, could be a great family restaurant with work

I am South African and was not going there with high expectations due to reviews I read.<br/><br/>1. Made a reservation for 6 people, we were seater straight away but the table was clearly only big enough for 4 people. We had to turn out plates sideways to make it fit.<br/><br/>2. Placed our order fairly quickly. Ordered garlic bread as starter, very bad presentation.. basically rolls from the bakery with some garlic and cheese.<br/><br/>3. Service from our waiter was good, until she cleared half our table only to return and tell us she is going on her break. We had to wait 15 minutes to call for a new waiter to finish clearing the table.<br/><br/>4. We requested soy milk for tea, our waiter advised that they only do normal milk.<br/><br/>5. Food was average. Salad was not presented well.<br/><br/>Not impressed overall and will not return.

I quite liked the place, the waitress we had was great, quite noisy especially when they celebrate a birthday but i guess thats part of their dining experience. Mains are large portions, I had the pork ribs, they were good but not great. Would revisit this place as apparently the Burgers are good.
T.moodie
Perhaps we had a bad day... <br/><br/>I expected a lot more than we got.  Maybe a mistake but I ordered the combo Rump and Calamari.  Very disappointing... the calamari was pretty stodgy and limp.  The ribs seemed ok... our party enjoyed them but we have had better.  Service mediocre.  Sorry guys - you will need to do better to have us back.

Great place for kids, excellent service! The food is delicious! It is a little pricey for the more upmarket items, steak, ribs etc, but the burgers are excellent value and SO FILLING! The playground with child minder is a massive ++++ in my opinion and the kids activities including face painting is awesome! I highly recommend to anyone with kids!!
Wayne Coupland
The food was adequate but mainly cold, especially the fries and onion rings.<br/>However the service was extremely poor with no one coming near the table to take second drink orders. Also no one came and replenished the water.<br/>This place take your orders and just want to turn you around with no further service. Do yourself a favour and go some where else.

After reading some of the reviews, I was really skeptical about going to Spur for the first time but called up during the week to make a booking for a Sunday. When we arrived, we were seated straight away (even though the place was pretty much full) and was served our drinks within minutes. <br/><br/>The Spur looks exactly how I remember it; from the booths and menus to the decorations. After only a short time, someone had a birthday and it was complete nostalgia! (For those of you who haven't been to Spur, when it's your birthday, all the wait staff group around the table and bust out a tune for you). <br/><br/>We ordered a chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce, a surf 'n turf, a cheddamelt burger and a stacked bacon and cheese burger. All the mains were served with chips and crispy onion rings. Other options are to get kumara chips, baked potato or veg. Absolutely delicious! <br/><br/>I can't wait to come back to be all over that schnitty!!! 😍

been here on a team lunch - great ambience - very well done interiors. Service is a bit sloppy. Food was average for the price that you pay.

“No experience required” seems to be the motto of Spur when it comes to hiring their seemingly clueless staff, or at least the vast majority of them. The entire dining experience was riddled with issues beginning from the moment we arrived.<br/><br/>• The first thing to arrive at our table was a bill! Simple mistake which was quickly remedied, but still…<br/><br/>• Our starter platter arrived, but no side plates were given until we later asked for some to be brought over.<br/><br/>• After finishing our drinks and sitting with empty glasses for about ten minutes, a member of waitstaff removed them but didn’t offer to replenish the beverages.<br/><br/>• Once our mains arrived, not one of them was correct as ordered. All of our steaks were cooked incorrectly – for instance, ordered a medium rare but received a near well-done steak. <br/><br/>• The garlic fillet steak arrived with no garlic, which was “fixed” by bringing over a small bowl of garlic sauce, which according to the menu was supposed to have been on top of the steak to begin with.<br/><br/>• A jalapeno steak arrived with no jalapenos, or the accompanying sauce as per the menu. This was also missing the onion rings.<br/><br/>• The second jalapeno steak also arrived with no sauce.<br/><br/>• The fourth steak, a cheddar-melt, was ordered as a medium but was closer to rare!<br/><br/>The main waiter who served us for most of the night was, in fairness, doing his best and was clearly embarrassed by the string of mistakes related to our meals. However, our dining experience was clearly let down by other members of staff in the kitchen and the remaining wait-staff who created a poor experience for us, so I am not likely to visit again.

Went on a Sunday..it was like an airport, alota people and kids, lotsa movement and noise, a real assault on the senses.<br/>Four of us,so booth style seat, table was small for everything to fit on.<br/>Service was good and prompt, considering how busy it was, that was a surprise, there was alota staff though, all young, so my 17year old girl was getting constantly google eyed buy a few of the male staff, which made me uncomfortable, we weren't there asa perv session for the waiting staff.<br/>Had ribs, wings, steak, schnitzel.<br/>Ribs were gross and not tender atal<br/>Steak was ok, but was cooked medium rare, asked for medium...was to bloody.<br/>Wings were tender, but small and sauce was weird, tasted like melted plastic..alota fried onion, which wasn't crispy, just a pile of soggy onion, ew! Heapsa chips though, but for 36bux for my ribs and nibbles, id rather quality of meat, not half the board chips and soggy onion.<br/>Definitely a place for kids and family's that want fast, not so good food, and quantity sides etc.<br/>Lonestar and broncos definitely better..price sorta ok, service ok(aside from the drooling, pervy male waiter's making us uncomfy)<br/>May go back...btw parking Isa bitch, we got lucky.<br/><br/>

Fantastic burger and surroundings however they made a small error with my order and the waitress mumbled but otherwise a great experience Will go again for their famous steak

Food was average. Had to wait 20 minutes in the entrance lobby for a table. At the end of the meal, the server was insistent that we pay a gratuity. This is not the New Zealand way of doing things! We paid but Im not sure that I want to go back again.Poor service experience. Feeling was that its all about money and not the customer experience.

It's been a long time between "Spur's", infact must be almost 20 years since The Golden Spur closed. It is lovely to welcome White Cloud Spur to Auckland. The menu is the same and the service is very good. Being a new business the service will get better. Took a while to attract the attention of the wait staff for a second round of drinks. Meals were good. But in the years between Spur's we have been spoilt for choice with Lone Star, Broncos, and others, who all offer the big meal . We will be back just hope that other ones open to save the 50 plus kilometre drive each way.

Went here on Friday night with my partner and it was the worst experience in a LONG time...firstly 30 minutes after placing our order the waiter noticed we weren't eating and asked if we'd like to order. We told him we already had, he said went away and then came back a few minutes later and told us our order was lost. He took our order again. Then when it came my partners steak was rare and bleeding. . He ordered well done. We understand chefs hate this but this was a joke surely. Then every 5 minutes there is very loud clapping and birthday song sung by staff. A song fair enough but the clapping is so loud as staff walk to the table that you can't hear conversation at your table. Then the doors were locked and customers trying to get in were knocking on the windows. Locking the doors. ..REALLY! Can't the person on the desk just say I'm sorry the kitchen has closed to anyone coming in after a certain time.
Kyle
Went in  for a birthday dinner. Overall it was a good experience and nice evening. The ribs were cooked well and tasted great. However, the durky wings in the starters were way too salty. And we were not pleased when we were charged for the extra dom pedro that came with the birthday song.

Third time coming to Spur. I have been to South Africa and had Spur nearly everyday as the cost there is a quarter of what it is here. Can say the first time was good as I was excited that we had one in NZ! The last 2 times I have been I realised that the food is just better quality pub food with a huge cost. The portion sizes don't add up to the amount you pay and also quality. They are taking advantage of the fact that people love Spur and think it would be like what it is in S.A. We have tried a few different things on the menu including the rack and calamari, stacked burgers, fish of the day, waffles for dessert and milkshakes and so have the people I went with and it is safe to say we all feel the same way about the food. Won't be going back again. Would much rather go to Rack n Roll.

It was an absolute delight to visit White Cloud Spur for dinner on 18 December 2016, a birthday present for my oldest who was a tot when we left SA fourteen years ago.  The tastes just like I remember it - bliss.  The service was brilliant, we probably sat a wee bit to close top the kitchen - but that is summer for you :)  Well done, guys !  I can't wait for the next special occasion to use as an excuse to return. xxxx

21/11/16 attended dinner with my son and 2 family friends both orginally from south Africa.. but reside in Hamilton and brisbane and made it a priority to come to spur as they raved about the place as they had the fondness childhood memories.. what started out on a high ended up being far from it... the salad was brown to witch the waitress was happy to exchange for fries but portion size was pretty poor.. <br/>Then come desert we asked .. and we're told it's coming half an hour later still asked an our waitress had finished her shift and on top of that they only had one waffle maker so we had to wait.. again.. $173 dollars later.. unimpressed.... frankly apart from the poor services I felt bad for my friends who's childhood memories didn't live up to expectation..

We went to the Spur for late lunch on 27/11/16. This was our first time going to the NZ branch, and we were all excited to try a taste of home. I think that was one of the reasons this was so disappointing. We remember the Spur in South Africa as being a place where we could go to get a delicious meal and awesome service. I think we were expecting friendly staff who knew how to take orders and wait a table. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. We were a table of 6 adults and 1 child and came in late afternoon when the restaurant was fairly quiet. I am commenting on behalf of my family and this is the feedback as a whole:<br/><br/>- I went in at 1pm to put my name down on a list to be called when a table was free. By 3pm we hadn’t heard anything so headed over anyway, the restaurant was quite empty so not sure why we were never called.<br/><br/>- The waiter seemed annoyed that we weren’t instantly ready to place a drinks order<br/><br/>- We had to ask for kids’ crayons for my daughter, they didn’t offer anything.<br/><br/>- After the order was taken our waiter had to come back multiple time to check how steak was meant to be cooked and what sauce we wanted.<br/><br/>-We ordered 3 starters and 1 came out wrong. The excuse was that the cook got confused. Taste of the starters was ok but very oily chilli poppers and calamari.<br/><br/>- 3 of the mains were cheddar melt steaks, they came out and the waitress didn’t know if they were medium or medium rare and had to go back to kitchen to check.<br/><br/>- The meals were passed over our heads and we were asked to pass them to the end of the table instead of being served to the correct side of the table. Same with the drinks.<br/><br/>- One steak was overcooked and really, really fatty. The other steak came with the wrong sauce, meant to be a mushroom sauce but had no mushrooms in it.<br/><br/>- Husband ordered the T-bone steak, for $45 he was expecting better quality, the steak was really fatty and came with no sauce, after some time he managed to get a waiters attention and when asked about the sauce the waiter said “you can have any sauce you like!” Well he had ordered the pepper sauce but never got it.<br/><br/>- The hot chips were cold.<br/><br/>- The dirt from the floors was just swept into a pile near the entrance and left there.<br/><br/>- After the main was served our waiter came and told us he was going on his break and pointed to a tall guy he told us to call if we needed anything. We had no service after that and no one came to remove plates or refill drinks. My husband had to call the manager so we could get some service.<br/><br/>- While no one was waiting our table the staff members were dancing around arm in arm, wearing kids’ masks, laughing and joking around, we couldn’t get anyone’s attention.<br/><br/>-The positive was that the manager was very apologetic and there was one really lovely waitress who helped us out at the end.<br/><br/>This was definitely far from our experiences in South Africa and it is really disappointing, we were hoping it would be a place we could go regularly with our family, but to be honest we would rather spend hundreds of dollars somewhere else. I think my sister was the most disappointed because she has been going on about this for weeks and it was a lunch for my mum’s birthday. We also had 2 NZers with us and they were underwhelmed. <br/><br/>Really wish we could have a better review because we have all been waiting so long for the Spur to finally open.

Had a wonderful time at the Spur on Sunday. Got there early so we were almost first in the queue. The play park and entertainment for the kids were amazing- best I have seen in Auckland. The adults noted afterwards, that it was the first family meal out that they could actually relax and not worry about the children.  The food was good, although it was a bit expensive. My cheddamelt chicken breast was succulent and cooked to perfection. The mushroom sauce was a bit on the bland side but once I added some of the spur sauce it was fine. The summer salad was ample- but mostly leaves and a bit on the dry side. Everyone was happy with their burgers, chips and onion rings. The Dom Pedro's were a good way to round things off. The staff were super friendly and always helpful and the service was quick enough. The children did not want to leave they were having so much fun. Altogether a very pleasant experience!

Went to Spur with a bunch of family, all in all about 20 of us, booked the table and then told no split bills allowed... crazy! anyway we went with the booking, ordered a sharing platter for 2 at the cost of $21.00, to come to the table with 4 mushroom, 4 buffalo wings and a hand full of calamari with two dipping sauce.. to my surprise this being a sharing platter, called the manger over and asked them to explain how the same starter 2weeks earlier was twice the size at the same price and now its halved in size at the same price, agreeing to this being unfair they sent more starters over.. only to find the mushrooms were still raw and the buffalo wings were well over cooked and dry, thank goodness for the sauce it was dowsed in that saved it from logging in the back of your through.. this all over and the manager apologizing multiple times, it was time for the mains.. So I got the 600g spur ribs (as I'm a Saffa and love meat!!) only to find the ribs were over cooked yet again and dry, but I sat back and ate them, however one of the family members decided they would get the starter platter for 2 as there main meal... what a mistake, yet again came out with 4 mushrooms, 4 buffalo wing and a hand full of calamari, so I called the manager over, however this time was a different manger, so I told them the same story as I told the one before, so off she went to the kitchen and spoke with the chef, to come back and tell us that the sizing was correct and that's what the platter is. Now I wasn't sold on this, $21 for so little and its meant to be for two. so I never accepted this and they ended up sorting the size out again. Look Spur is well set up and my son and the other kids had a ball of a time, its set up very well for the kids, but for me to say I would travel from Northland again to eat at Spur.. mmmm highly doubt that would happen. I'm very disappointed in the food, but the waitress we had was amazing. If you looking for a good place for the kids and not worried on quality of food, then Spur is the place for you...

We have been looking forward to Spur opening since we first heard they were. Visited 3 times since their opening, the last being on the 21 November. The first time they were closed when the website said they were open for lunch, we left, disappointed! The second time we were told there was a wait period of 45 minutes and we had to wait upstairs where there was already a long queue. On the 21st we again arrived and were told to leave a contact number and they will get back to us... it's now the 24th of November and still no call!!! What a huge disappointment !!! You would think that as a new business they would be eager for all the custom they can get but obviously this is not the case. I don't think my family and I will be keen to visit again! We miss the meals we loved in SA but thankfully we have Bushman's grill and Ribshack!!!

Went here last week after hearing so many stories about it from my South African partner. We decided to go on a Tuesday thinking it wouldn't be too busy but we were wrong.. so busy. There was a wait for about 30 mins which I guess is fair enough as it's only just opened. Had to wait up stairs. Would be nice if there was a bar upstairs or if we could order drinks and have them up there but we were told no we have to wait. <br/><br/>Wait staff were very friendly when we sat at our table. Ordered starters which were the buffalo wings and chilli poppers. Both were outstanding we really enjoyed both of them especially the wings & blue cheese sauce 😍😍<br/>Next we ordered our mains which was ribs and chicken & ribs and calamari. Our food came super fast which was nice as I was worried there would be a wait. Food was delicious especially the calamari which was nice and soft and not chewy.<br/><br/>Over all I would love to go back. The food lived up to my expectation. Soooo good 😌👍🏼🙌🏼

So happy Spur came to NZ. Service and food was great! Negative all-round comments by other about when it first opened should be taken with a grain of salt. It is neigh impossible to have a perfect opening week so I 100% advise trying it for yourself now that they are in the swing of things. The rack of ribs is always a safe option when going to Spur. Will definitely be going back.

Went to spur for my birthday. My partner is from SA so also very excited to go. Food was lovely. Garlic prawns for a starter where a bit less then I expected the mushrooms were lovely portions were huge. Got through half of my chicken. Also got the staff singing a happy birthday song to me. Listen for the whistle haha

Dined here for lunch with my partner today, My partner is a real meat lover & after reading the urban list write up for Spur I thought it would definitely be a good place for my partner. This place is huge & even at lunch time on a Tuesday it was fairly busy. There were plenty of staff who were friendly & attentive. We were greeted at the door & shown to a booth table. I did find the table to be a little small, especially considering how large the meals are. Our table looked out to the kids playground which looked awesome, this place would defo be a good venue for those with children. There is a great selection on the menu, my partner had a really hard time making up his mind on what to order. I had the chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce & my partner went for the ribs & wings combo. I felt the pricing was fair for the style of food, it's not cheap but you do get massive portions so it's good value for money, especially if your hungry or have a larger appetite. The wait for food was reasonable & we both enjoyed our meals. My schnitzel was crumbed beautifully & was perfectly cooked. The cheese sauce wasn't particularly flavoursome, however it was a good consistency & was perfectly edible. The chips were enjoyable & I usually don't like onion rings, but these ones I was a real fan of. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The staff were great & made sure we were looked after throughout our visit, we look forward to returning & trying the steak.

We have been waiting for this reataurant to open for a while as it was a family favourite when we lived in SA ! - we were very disappointed. The tables and decor looks cheap and our table was unstable and wobbling badly, the windows were filthy, the window sills full of dust and dead insects, windows held open with nails and very amateurish service. We moved tables as we couldn't stablise this 'new' table and our waitress barely wiped the used table. We  were still hopeful the food would be good but again super disappointed - my Cheddermelt Steak was thin and dry with a slab of unheated cheese and no mushroom sauce. Tepid chips with their famous spice barely there and onions rings that looked like they had been tossed on the wooden board !! - I asked about the mushroom sauce and was brought a small bowl with cold sauce and a skin on top. My husband was asked if he wanted a sauce and he asked if it was included and she said yes then named the sauces,  and he chose some awful 'BBQ' sauce that wasnt even on the menu we found out later and then we were charged for it. The 'buff' managers were strutting around taking photos of themselves and perhaps should have been checking meals going out and walking the floor ! - Serengeti in Murrays Bay will remain our go to place for steaks Im afraid !

Very authentic Spur experience. Affordable menu. Excellent service and tasty food. Then playground is excellent for kids. For a moment I actually forgot I was in Auckland! Felt so much like South Africa. Well done team of Spur White Cloud.

I haven't eaten there but a party of us have booked in for tomorrow night (12th November). I've received mixed reviews, one from a family friend who says they will never return which is a shame.  I hope our party of about 8 has a good experience because we meet often and are hoping to add this to a preferred meeting place.

We were lucky enough to book a table the night before for the two of us and arrived to a fully packed and buzzing restaurant. The atmosphere and service was great from the moment we walked in. Our meals of the ribs/wings and steak/wings combo were awesome and came out within fifteen minutes. Packed full of flavour and one of the best steaks i've had in a long time! What really made our night was our waiter Stefan, as he went above and beyond to make sure our service was perfect. Will definitely be back and will hope to see young Stefan and the awesome food/service again :)

I don't even know where to begin. I had read some reviews before coming to your restaurant and saw some pretty bad ones, but thought we would give it the benefit of the doubt. I wish I had taken them on board more. What an appalling experience. To start off we were seated right next to a toilet. Our meals didn't take too long to come out which was pleasant, however we soon found out why... our medium, and medium rare steaks were BLUE! I'm surprised they didn't have a heart beat. You would think they would make extra effort to ensure they got the next one right...nope! Just as raw as the previous one. The second steak also came back all chopped up and stuck on a plate, not presently nicely like the others. Once we had finished our meal we saw something that turned our stomachs. Kitchen staff wearing their aprons into the toilet!! That was it, we were ready to get out of there. And just to top it all off, two of our parties were over charged for our meals, luckily our brains could work it out better than their computer/calculator and got our refunds! Will not return here ever again, and will definitely warn others! Extremely disappointed!!!!

On arrival  Friday night the place was packed we noticed the decor was lovely with an Indian theme -  a lady took us too two seats at the back - it was  a  fixed cubicle and chair that was jammed in among  others  - it was very restrictive and uncomfortable - We had a nice young man for a waiter - he took our order promptly however our drinks took for ever to arrive - My husband and i didn't feel like a big meal so chose the fish with Calamari and crispy onion rings - while waiting i was trying to chat to my husband but we gave up in the end  - the noise from so many people   plus loud country music was just too loud. I was watching the kitchen they had someone who  as the meals came up he checked them and handed them to the waiters. and i suppose to do a quality check... When our meal arrived we were so disappointed the fish was this white slab that had been pan fried no coloring and tasteless  it was Basa a Catfish. - we live in heaven for fresh fish why serve this.   as for the rest of the dish the fries were soggy - the onion rings a sloppy mess  as for the calamari which  was meant to be crumbed but the crumbs had fallen off somewhere.. the appearance  of our meal was  pale insipid and unappetizing - I think our meals must have been approved by the kitchen head - the waiter kept asking how our meal was - I said it was very poor... he said they are very busy - the saving grace i suppose was i had ordered a side order a Caesar salad which had no dressing - the only dressing was on the table and i think it was Thousand Islands dressing at least i could eat this   - We obviously ordered the wrong dishes as the steak meals and ribs looked lovley  . To finish us off completely when we paid the bill the Waiter told us about giving a Tip as the machine gives you the option for an amount to Tip. Hello we are in NZ we don't tip here. For a new restaurant they really need to step their game up - We expect much better than this having  so many great restaurants around.

My husband is from South Africa and talks about this as being his childhood go-to place, I never thought I would get to try it in New Zealand! It was like a dream come true when I found out they had opened in Albany.<br/><br/>The interior decor was very 'authentic' according to husband's family. There were lots of wait staffs, though perhaps the place is fairly new and they are still in training, it took awhile before we were attended to.<br/><br/>It took even longer, half an hour at least, before our drinks arrived, when one of them was out of a bottle and should have taken no time.<br/><br/>Our entree of fried mushrooms served with tartare was gorgeous, however the calamari rings were soggy, with a slightly burnt taste :( Spareribs were cooked till perfectly tender, though the sauce was just generic BBQ sauce, when apparently in South Africa they are served with special homemade sauce. My old fashioned cheese burger was a major disappointment - it was poorly presented as if it's from a school tuck shop when the price definitely demands gourmet, and it was incredibly dry with no sauce whatsoever on it. I had to smother it with tomato sauce to make it edible. The sides were good though, love their onion rings.<br/><br/>The milkshakes were the best part of the meal. They were incredibly thick, more like a thick shake, and flavourful. My husband said his creamy soda milkshake tasted exactly like what he had as a boy.<br/><br/>We were tempted to order waffles & cheesecake for desserts too, however, judging from how long the drinks took, we decided not to risk it.<br/><br/>Might give this place another chance after they have gotten a bit more sorted. The girl serving us was the loveliest soul though, so props to her ;)

Having grown up with the Spur in South Africa I was really keen to relive some memories and show my partner a piece of my childhood. After a 30minute wait we were taken to our tables and our orders promptly taken. Our food followed not too much later and it was tasty. I ordered a half rack of ribs and my partner ordered the steak and buffalo wing combo. We both enjoyed our meals but though the onion "rings" weren't quite right, a bit soggy and undercooked. My partner also thought the buffalo wings weren't quite spicy enough. We ordered a waffle each for dessert, a must have! The food was good value for money and the atmosphere was great, the only let downs were the lack of service (it was almost impossible to order a second round of drinks and dessert). We also got charged for an extra round of drinks that we did not have but this was quickly cleared from our bill. We will be returning but hope that the minor problems are sorted for our next visit. Would definitely suggest going here if you have kids as the playground is awesome and they also have PlayStations to keep the kids occupied.

I had heard lots about Spur from many friends so was looking forward to trying it for myself.  I tried to find a phone number to call to make a reservation - I called several numbers but did not get an answer - still don't know if they do reservations.  <br/>Overall the food was very good - we had a group of eight so between us we had a variety of choices from the menu.  Everyone enjoyed their meals and they were good size which our hungry group appreciated.<br/>However the service was far from ideal.  We ordered our meals but one did not turn up - after raising this with the staff, it eventually turned up when everyone else had finished eating.  And the meals that did arrive - there was inconsistencies with what we had ordered, such as sides not arriving or the wrong combination of sides.  And drinks - our orders for drinks were taken when we arrived which was great, but we had no opportunity for reorders - eventually we had to walk around to find a staff member to help us.  <br/>And when I got home, I double checked my bill, and discovered that what I had paid on EFT-POS did not match the amount on the bill - so I should have been more careful but you expect this to be right.<br/>So I realise that this is still a new restaurant, but the service is below standard - however the food is good - so there is still hope!  Considering if I will be back or not

Ok so I tried phoning them to make a booking, nobody picked up.So then went in to make the booking . The person who took the booking was really helpful and even showed us the tables where they were going to seat us at . That evening with group in tow we turned up for our booking but , not only did the not have the booking down the the manger of the night had a really bad attitude towards us . Maybe cause most of us where young adults who knows . We told we would have to wait 20min which we thought was ok since they where busy but as the time grew 30mins and then 45mins, he was less concerned with our table and trying to make it out as our fault for not booking and earlier table. After about an hour and a half of him being less than hospitable and the group staving buy now we left bitterly disappointed in the Spur name we grew up with as kids. We ended up going to Lone Star in Albany where they gave us a table for our group with out waiting and the service was top notch with great food.

So happy SPUR finally opened after such a long wait. I went on the 2nd day of opening and was expecting issues...but, my rib and wing combo was great, my wife's cheddar-melt burger was incredible, the kids meals were perfect (although thanks to the awesome playground we hardly saw them). And to top it off, the dom pedros were sensational. Service was very friendly (a little nervous for her first shift-but very attentive). I even rate the food better than the SPURs I have been to in South Africa.

I'm afraid this was such a disappointing evening. Firstly we ordered 2 starters jalapeĂąo poppers and crumbed mushrooms both were good but we were misinformed about portion size. We were told there were 10 jalapeĂąo poppers on starter plate before we ordered but the dish came out with only 4. We questioned this with our waiter who told us they had run out of poppers and he was sorry and our bill had been adjusted accordingly so we would only pay for the 1/2 size. He lied, We were charged for whole staters at the end and it turned out he had lied about running out of poppers as the manager said they hadn't. I ordered a cheddar melt steak with a side salad and crispy onions but was told they couldn't swap out the fries for the salad. I asked the waiter if he could please double check with kitchen as I felt it wasn't a tall order to get a handful of leaves instead of chips, he came back and said all fine. He lied. I Got my order ended up with steak, a side salad and side of crispy onions and was charged extra at the end. Steak was ok but fatty, pepper sauce gluggy, tasteless and Luke warm. My partners steak fattier than mine and he left half. Not a great food experience, and poor service. I won't be back until they have sorted out their teething issues. I felt sorry for all the people queuing outside for an hour. I'd be annoyed if I had waited that long for a table and received a meal like I did....lucky I booked.

This brought back so many memories of going to Spur as a child in SA.....<br/>I loved it and will definitely be coming back 😊<br/>I guess the only reason that its not a 5/5 is that my Cheddarmelt schnitzel didn't have any "melt" to my cheddar.... would be real awesome if there was more melt....<br/>So happy there is now a Spur that I can share my childhood memories with my kids one day... <br/>Thanks Spur 😊

Dear Spur, thank you for another awesome night, the food is beyond fantastic! Awesome staff, the best veggies I have had at a restaurant in a long time! Best family restaurant without a doubt!
