Review Postmasters - Arrowtown

Was here first time in 2003, then 2nd time in 2017, and today 3rd time in 2023; NEVER dissapointed! Fabulous food and services, especially today with the best sunny & brezzy weather. Nothing to ask more, we were just right at the best table outside enjoying ourselves with food and atmoshere around. We had 1 share starter, 2 main dishes, and 1 share dessert. Total damage was NZD $100, which roughly is about USD $80 for two persons. Reasonable when compares to everything here. Highly recommended.

Nice restaurant with great food and very friendly service. The BBQ Beef Brisket with Turkish bread was delicious, flavourful meat BBQ sauce n gherkins combined very well with the crispy bread. The Pan Fried Gnocchi was out of this world, very flavourful on its own and the napoli/pesto sauce and black olive brought it up another level.

Food was very tasty, front verandah was pretty and nice for a November evening feed in the sunlight. Service was faultless. Though, my hunger was not sated with the small serving of lamb received (2 small discs pictured). For the price of $45nzd, I could have bought and slow cooked a whole lamb shoulder to feed 20 people for the same size and price. Kumara was nice but also small serving. Partner's gnocci was delicious and decent serving size. If portion size of lamb dish was double I'd have given it a 5/5. Cheese puffs were tasty too. The chilli jam was perfectly spiced.

“The best fish and chips I’ve ever had” We visited this restaurant on New Year’s Eve day. We loved that the menu was very inclusive for gluten free people! The staff were super lovely and prompt. The food came out quite quickly. It’s a lovely location to sit and take in the world around us. The menu is quite affordable and delicious.

A delightful wee cafe in the original postmasters house. Great breakfast menu the food we had was delicious and great portion sizes. Hell we even washed it down with a cold beer at 10am. Friendly staff fast service. A must stop for a good meal.

Very nice restaurant. Our group had a choice of soups. I had the seafood chowder, and my wife had pumpkin coconut soup which she let me taste. Both soups were excellent. Our main course was a sandwich divided into four triangular parts. Each triangular sandwich segment was different. Each was very good. The venue was tastefully decorated, clean and neat. The restaurant was divided into multiple small sections. This design reduced the ambient noise level so that we could chat with our table mates easily. This meal was included in the price of our tour so I don't know what it would have cost. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. I recommend this place.

Such a lovely setting to sit outside in the beautiful sunshine and enjoy a meal. Fantastic service from the wonderful staff especially Deva, definitely 5 stars for customer service..thank you Deva. Food was very good, we had the squid, Fish and chips and the chocolate lava cake. Highly recommend..

A beautiful spot for a Fathers Day treat. Great atmosphere, nice and warm by the roaring fire! Good menu, with lots of choice and yummy food. My daughter loved the pancakes. Friendly service staff.

Had the pleasure of visiting Arrowtown last weekend and came by this wee cafe! We were hoping to have seafood chowder based on what we've seen on the internet, sadly this isn't available (on the menu in cafe). Not much options too but that's ok. We tried wee snacks and weren't disappointed. Kumara chips was greatly enjoyed by my mates and I personally loved my dumplings. What made it even more exquisite is the sauce it came with, god I almost asked for its recipe lol ! Just delicious. Anyone visiting Arrowtown should drop by!! They also have live bands on lunch :-)

I had the falafel with taziki and aubergine and capsicum salad. Excellent falafels. Not full of herbs but tasted great. I had an excellent local Chardonnay. I sat outside.The weather got cool and the heaters were turned on making it very warm and comfortable. The meals of the other diners' near me looked great. I'd definitely eat there again. This place is popular! Staff were so friendly even when busy. We found a lovely sunny inside table, love the look of this place. Opted for corn fritters and the burger. Corn fritters were more of a potato rosti but they were so so delicious. The brisket in the burger was also outstanding. Coffee was fantastic as well. Overall really enjoyed this place

We showed up 3 minutes before closing yet they seated and served us. Delicious food and great service. You won’t go wrong here.

It's absolutely perfect! The food is exceptional, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is delightful. During winter, the fireplace adds a lovely touch. I would highly recommend trying their wild mushroom risotto, and the soup of the day never disappoints as a fantastic starter.

Very friendly, helpful staff who were extremely accomodating of dietary requirements. I had the venison ragu for lunch and there’s quite literally nothing bad I can say about it. I honestly considered ordering a second main after I’d finished the first just to see if lightning could strike twice. Hopefully, I’ll be back another day!

We had our wedding reception here and it was amazing. The food was fantastic! The best wedding food ever !! The service was fantastic and everyone was very accommodating, making a relaxed and easy going atmosphere for all our guests. We were so impressed by how special everyone made this experience for us. Thank you so much !

We had a fantastic dinner this evening (24/12/2015)... we had the Postmasters platter and cheese puffs to start. As main dish we had a parpadelle, fish pie and toasties with wedges for the kids. It was all excellent !!!

Love this place, every visit is great! Definitely recommend it to anyone considering it!

I have dined at Postmaster with friends a few times and the food is always very good. Also the staff team always delivers great service.

Food and service, once again, were excellent. Serving size perhaps a little small and prices up there but I enjoyed the meal. Have been before and will definitely go again.

Came for breakfast and then drove back from Queenstown again another day for breakfast again. Absolutely delicious.

Great food, the staff are helpful, accommodating and genuine. A must visit for any time of day for food in Arrowtown.

Amazing food. Vegan tamarind curry and cheesecake were phenomenal. Fish and chips was tiptop. Staff were super nice. Highly recommend.

Food was awesome but the staff were very frosty. Don’t dare ask for butter with your scone.

Just stopped for a light lunch, we had the Arancini and shared a side salad and wedges, it was lovely. The staff were friendly, polite and efficient.

Beautiful food, wine & service. Every course was glorious - especially the venison & smoked mash!

Very slow service and a vegetarian dish that was mediocre at best - showed little if any imagination. Service staff were detached, unfocused and inattentive. This is not a cheap restaurant so a very high standard of food and service is not unreasonable. We will certainly not be returning.

Walked in on a weekday, it was not full to the point you get turned away. So walked in ordered Mocha x2 and Scrambled Eggs with Chorizo.  Coffees came around 10 minutes into the wait, however the scrambled eggs took half an hour to be ready, they even forgot to put the size of Chorizo which never came. Coffee was sour. When we went to walk out, they informed us that they were busy, yet they didn't have the courtesy to inform us that there was a wait in the kitchen. I don't understand why it would take half an hour to make scrambled eggs with over-toasted toast.

we both had the fish pie which menu said included blue cod, prawns and smoked salmon of but it wasn't a fish pie but half a bowl seafood chowder with possibly blue cod shrimp sized prawns no smoked salmon but some cubed carrot and peas and top off with piece of flakey pastry

A very lovely location with waiters and waitresses the most friendliest I’ve met in South Island! They briefed us through the entire menu and it was so exciting being able to dine with people so passionate about their food and produce. We ordered the postmasters platter and adored the homemade oatcakes, chutney, the cheese from down the road, beautiful selection of breads and dips and olives as well as the salmon and venison, mm-mm! Dessert was a simple sorbet and raw cheese cake. We left very satisfied!

Every time we come to arrowtown we always go to the postmasters, as the food is always great and the service is excellent. We went there a couple of nights back and it was excellent

Excellent food.They serve a limited menu but each item on the menu is distinct in taste and flavour .There is something for every palate .We just walked in without expectations .cheerful .friendly and efficient staff .I would recommend The cheese puffs ,The Buddha Plate and The Fish Chowder.

Had dinner here and the food was just devine. We ordered the seafood chowder and mussels for entree. For mains we had the lamb and vension and they were both delicious.

This was our second visit this trip. Again, we were warmly greeted and well looked after throughout our meal. Perfect ambience for a chilly Arrowtown evening. Two of us had the beef fillet which was consistent with the previous meal. Good balance of flavours. Excellent cooking. Sad that the waitress mixed up the delivery of the dishes, giving the wrong diner the rarer piece. But we sorted that out for ourselves. Our third diner ordered the venison which was cooked perfectly and presented well. Dessert choice is good and the torte was much enjoyed. Wine cellar a little limited but we got by on some local beers.

Very tasty breakfast and had wonderful service. Sat outside in the sun which was very relaxing. Would definitely go back if I am ever in Arrowtown again

Had lunch here. Fantastic coffee and earl grey tea, but it went downhill from there. <br/>We had the lamb burger and fish and chips. Both were disappointing. The bun and the lamb were dry. The lightly battered fish had more batter than fish, and was so deeply fried the fish inside shriveled and began to loose its delicate fish flavor. It also didn't taste fresh. <br/>Service was friendly and prompt.

We were so hungry and we went there for the breakfast. The tea was really good and lovely. I had bacon and eggs. The poached eggs were fine but the bacon was a bit dried and burned. But generally the atmosphere is homey and cosy and I will go there again.

Saw this place on Zomato and decided to try it for lunch. The service was exceptional by this lovely women who was greeting all the guests. I ordered the mushroom pappardelle and hubby ordered soup. Both were delicious and the wine list was impressive too. No regrets or complains! Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and wine. The freshly baked garlic bread was really good too. Will visit again!

Since the snow kicked in, we thought it will be a good time to visit Arrowtown! Walked pass this place several times in the pass and always wanted to try. <br/><br/>There were several big groups walked in just before us, but we were greeted and seated in no time . <br/><br/>The coffee arrived almost straight after we ordered. Surprisingly even we placed our order after the big groups, our meal still came out very quickly! <br/><br/>Both my friend and l enjoyed our meals! Fresh ingredients cooked to a very high standard! Especially the sausage and the bacon! Delicious!!<br/><br/>This place is situated at the middle it town on a beautiful spot! The place itself is beautiful and cute! <br/><br/>We would gladly return to Postmasters again!

Very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Good kids meals, and a delicious share platter ideal for a lunch for two adults. Would happily come back here!

We loved coming here for breakfast, always reasonably priced especially for such a small touristy town. Our food was always delicious & the staff were always lovely. Can't wait to come back. Also we really enjoyed the rye bread that came out with the eggs, was so light & fluffy!

Eat here last night had spicy Beetroot soup for starters rather disappointing for mains the lamb was tender,service ok restaurant came highly recommended but for me didn't cut the muster with little atmosphere

They serves the best platter in NZ. No any item could be wasted. Absolutely reasonable price with $45.00 Very mellow coffee and nice service.

Great food and even better service.... Loved the farfalle mushrooms and the falafel platter. Our son cleaned out his grilled butterfish in a jiffy! And great prices on top of that.

A nice basic lunch at Postmasters Restaurant on a quiet Friday.<br/>We had the beef burger and mushroom pasta. Both were good, served by attentive staff and the place was warm and inviting.

Was down with work for a trip to Queenstown &amp; we ended up going to Arrowtown to kill some time &amp; sight-see before leaving. We walked past this lovely little place &amp; were drawn to the board that said 'Fish &amp; Chips' as the lunch special that day. We got a table outside, the weather was perfect &amp; the atmosphere was just so relaxing. The staff were all friendly &amp; very attentive. The food was exceptional &amp; everyone from our group was more than satisfied. We were offered drinks &amp; water was bought to the table &amp; topped up throughout our visit here. The inside was nice but outside was popular due to the great sunny weather. I really rate this place, it was exceptional in every way &amp; not too expensive which was a nice bonus. I hope the staff see this so they know how much they are appreciated. 10/10 - thank you.
