Review L'atelier Du Fromage - Auckland Central

A shop with a very comfortable environment. The service is very attentive, and the dishes feel very French. It seems that the origin and taste are as classic as possible, not like an eclectic version made to cater to New Zealand tastes. It belongs to the store that I like to drive for half an hour to come and go.

5 star, very rare and hardly spotted. This place is just great, coffee is nicely roasted and with plenty of punch however the food is the real winner here and their huge variety of take away Cheeses. Love the steak with blue cheese and the duck is also very special. (See Pics) This could go down as my last supper. We will be back again and again and again!!

Hidden treasure. I went there by my french colleague. They have nice cabinet foods and cheese. You would enjoy even you dont know any french name on the menu. I am going for food menu next time. Cant wait to go there. But little salty.

Great! Great! Foods are delicious! Really adore duck sausages and potato with bacon. And the steak is also good! Don’t forget duck liver... with breads! The second floor is a wine cellar, calming and cozy... buy some French wines for your friends ! I am absolutely regular customer🥰

Always go for lunch here when in Auckland. Great trad French food, always perfectly cooked and presented. It also has a fab cheese shop and an amazing wine cellar upstairs.

Delicious meals and sweets. My family and I really enjoyed this place. We are sure to visit again

Definitely a gastronomic delight. Enjoyed the ham and cheese croissant with a tasty salad on the side and a small bottle of a French white. Pear tart for dessert. My friend had the duck sausage and is a regular patron. Always busy and popular.

So french, so chic, so authentic, L’atilier Du Fromage was recommended to us as a must-try before we departed Auckland. We came early on a Monday morning and received the warmest of greetings with a merry “bonjour!” from the waitress behind the counter. An array of patisserie greeted us to tempt us behind the glass counter, shiny and expertly crafted. Likewise I was surrounded in cheese-heaven by every different kind of fromage I could concieve. We settled in for our brunch; a filled croissant, a pain-au-chocolat, and from the kitchen menu the Duck & Porcini Mushroom Sausage, Poached Eggs & Potato. The coffee that accompanied my breakfast was among the very best I’d had in Auckland; I soon found myself ordering a second cup. We agreed that the croissant was the nicest presentation of a croissant we’d encountered on our travels, coming with a vibrant side salad and dressing, toasted golden perfectly. The pain-au-chocolate was so fresh and flaky, it was divine. The duck & porcini dish had its own bistro elegance, the creamy eggs the perfect accompaniment for the richness of the sausage, the potato element a boulangere stack holding the dish together. Bathrooms were clean and tidy and soon there was a procession of regular clientele as the Monday morning picked up. One of the most memorable brunches we had in Auckland. Salut!

Apr 2022: It's awesome to have this French pocket accessible. Feb 2021: Simply delicious. Very high-quality experience. Will be back for more.

Love their food, cheese, n friendly staff. Their flat white is more like a latte, which is too milky for ex-Wellingtonian. They don't have a big menu but have beautiful French cuisine - everything is good. They have lunch menu that changes regularly. They have a free wifi access you can sit by the window n do whatever you need to do! I sometimes just grab lunch baggett to go - simple but delicious. Pretty busy cafe. Parking 🅿 can be a pain if u're driving cos it's a bsuy street - almost never find one! But they have recently been available 6 parking at rear but only for 30minsbif my memory is correct. I'm their neighbourhood so I always walk to get there.

This place is an hidden gem, my partner and I went there for breakfast today and we loved it. The food is amazing and everything is so Authentic, they have a great selection of cabinet food and an amazing selection of French cheese, they also have a wine cellar with affordable wine from France. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Highly raccomande it if you love wine and cheese.

Stopped by here after failing to get Krispy Kreme from down the road. It wasn't too bad of a consolation prize. Had the mille fuille and it was nice. Crispy with sweet chocolate cream. Nice flavour but it didn't have the caramelised flavour in the pastry. Quite a nice stop for something sweet. They also have a deli, cheese and wine shop all rolled into one.

Thought we would try something different for breakfast this morning . Authentic French food, atmosphere and experience. Afterwards sneaking upstairs to a French wine shop .

Excellent menu and service. Highly recommended. Don't worry about what to order because they're all good.

Great food here, lots of cheese and French products to buy. The steak and fish pasta we had recently wasn't too good though with the wagyu steak being too chewy and fish was fishy

Very rare for myself to rate a 5 but feel this is justified and could not fault food or presentation, service was spot on even though very busy. Highly recommended 😀😀😀

A lovely authentic French bistro specializing in French cheeses, deli eats and decadent patisserie and coffee by day on the ground floor, this two floor venue houses also Maison Vauron, an upstairs cellar d’or restaurant open for private functions and dinners.

Liked:
1. The authenticity of the French speaking service staff, general decor and buzz from a crowd of enthusiastic foodies to French locals missing their favorite French fix. It was a full house on a Friday at noon!

2. The food - consistently good and authentic - from the choc eclairs which jumped off the display counter onto plates the minute they were put out - to the equally fast disappearing hearty quiches and sandwiches, each served with a small side salad.

We could not come here without enjoying their amazing croque monsieur served warm from the griddle - crispy on the outside and cheesy gooey on the inside.

Also ordered the tapenade served with bread, gerkins and leeks which was very simple but hearty and full of flavour - so good that we ordered another side of bread to finish it off.

Then there was the mushroom gnocchi, a small hearty but well presented portion full of flavour and great texture.

My favorite was the Duck saucisson - an excellent choice served with runny poached egg - a bit like having a rustic French version of a egg bene.

3. Do leave room for Dessert and coffee. Next time I’ll be faster w the eclairs.
The moment I stepped into L'Atalier Du Fromage, I felt like I walked into a little French cheese boutique in France. I immediately noticed cheeses for Africa and a satisfying whiff of fresh buttery pastries. I was in love! We had to wait for a while to get a table and this was an afternoon on a week day so be sure to make a booking everytime you go. For our mains, we had the Duck Saucisson (Sausage) with a potato poached eggs and a red wine sauce. Delicious and solid homemade sausage and the red wine sauce was out of this world. The other dish we had was the potato truffle gnocci with poached egg and a veloute (white sauce). The gnocci was nice and soft with that hint of truffle and the veloute went so well with it. Lastly the croque monsieur was incredible with its melted cheese and golden bread crust. This was heavenly, I could have 3 of these! L'Atelier Du Fromage serves amazing food, amazing service and perfect ambience!

Thank you to be here ! I discover that they made eclairs au chocolat and as a french I love it. In addition to that it's the real one. If you want to buy raclette cheese it's perfect. There are plenty of French products and the staff is amazing. I love this place to buy my cheese and pastries.

This has to be one of my favourite places in Newmarket. The food is mouth watering, especially the Bavette De Boeuf Wagyu. Tried the Gnocchi Aux Cepes Et Aux Chataignes and it wasn't too bad but have realised gnocchi isn't for me. Definitely coming back 🤤🤤 10/10

I would say the food quality is good, but I give 1 star rating for the worst customer services, after asking the receipt, I found they charged me for the food I did not order, but the most I didn't like the cashier was so rude when I tried to recount what I have ordered. I know your restaurant is very busy but don't be so arrogant to customer.
Very nice french cafe in New Market. What a shame it's not open for dinner. The interior decor is sooo French. I love every little detail of this place. Food is amazing. Love everything that we tried today. Happy belly on a Monday afternoon :) You know it's French when you can have good food and good wine haha. Definitely will go back to try other lovely dishes 👍👍👍

If you're near the bp on Khyber pass and want some lunch, make sure you come here.
The mains are absolutely delicious. Wagyu skirt steak was a punch in flavour. Highly recommended.
Also the cheeses available are very very nice. So many choices. I love their royal truffle cheese. It's just the best. I don't even care that I'm a little lactose intolerant...

Been coming here for the past 3 years. It never disappoints.

My daughter likes coming with me too, feels like a market with plenty of options and ingredients to take home and eat.

Patte’s are very yummy, truffle cheese too. Sandwiches ready for you to grab on the go. Delicious cooked food also.

Service: 4/5
Presentation: 4/5
Environment: 5/5
Food Quality: 5/5
Food Quantity:4.5/5
Price per person: $10-$30

Busy place with fabulous french food. This is one of my mum's favourites and she introduced it to me. I enjoyed the unique food, and it was well cooked

Nice French style cafe. Fresh baked bread, a lot of cheese, wine shop upstairs, relax music all in one. Food was awesome, nice presentation and delicious flavour. Service super friendly

I have visited this place a few times and have always been impressed by the quality of food.
Their quiches are to die for, moist and the flaky pastry is perfect (pictured below is the ham quiche).
I have also tried their duck sausage with potato and poached egg from the menu, which was a definite 10/10.
The chocolate tart is also amazing.
This place has now turned into one of my regulars.. cannot wait to try the rest of the menu and delicious things in the cabinet.

4/5 Taste
4.5/5 Display
4.5/5 Quantity
4/5 Customer Service

Fabulous French Cafe/bakery in New Market

I was told that this Cafe has the best Sandwichs in Auckland. First impression I received as I walked in was that I felt like walking into a nice rural cafe in Europe(which I've never been to).
Meat, bakery, organics, cheese and cabinet food. They pretty much had everything.
Coffee was just average, very light, average tasting. Latte art was poorly drawn, they weren’t even busy.
However, the toasted sandwich was just superb. It was just a normal ham cheese toastie but one bite of it just melted in my mouth. The secret was the cheese sauce inside and it made me a very happy fat boy.
Keen to go for more food, maybe I’ll stick to long black next time.
This cafe is recommended by a friend of mine. Since then, I have been there for breakfast and lunch. The presentation of food in the cabinet looks amazing, I just can’t resist it. 😆 I ordered a croque-monsieur with a small salad and a caramelised chocolate tart for lunch a month or two ago. It was delicious and fairly priced.

Nice service, great cheeses and savoury food. Two areas let this place down, the coffee and the presentation of the pastries, which looked poorly constructed and didn’t have that French quality one would expect.
Gus
I only stopped in to buy bread and croissants, those were excellent. The croissant was as good as I've had since perhaps Pyrenees, beautiful buttery flaky and ever so slightly sweet. The bread is good artisanal quality, fragrant chewy with decent weight to it compared to lesser examples. The inside of the cafe was bustling, the food I could see in the cabinets looked excellent, the staff were friendly and reassuringly French. I will come back here for a sit down brunch next time to get the full experience but it felt like a little piece of Paris hidden away in Newmarket

very unfriendly staff.

when i asked for the menu we were told to seat down and no water, no menu for 10 minutes.

we grabbed the seat right next to the enteance, directly visible from the counter.

called the staff for number of times, one answered and we requested for the menu, he went around and for next 5 minutes, nothing.

i noticed number of female staffs behind the counter noticing us when we waved our hands and then just ignoring.

this shop might havenice food but the customer service is below acceptance.

The food here was tasty and pretty reasonably priced. It has an authentic French feel to it and the huge cheeses on display were captivating. Service was good!
The desserts all looked very tempting! We had a mille-feuille and it was delicious but they’re $8 each so definitely a treat.

This place had a lovely atmosphere and great selection. They accomodate a wide range of situations, from take away, casual dine on and a more formal dine in. It had a very authentic French feel.

I have been to this place once and its small restra away from the main market . The food that we tried was excellent and full of flavors. Staff is friendly however they have limited seating space so booking in advance is advised unless you want to wait .

We tried saucisson de canard aux crepes along with Demi poulet roti bio and both dishes were excellent. Their chocolate/ banana /emon tarts are must try( a little bit expensive though).

If you are visiting here during french festival or race or national day they might have some special food deal .

Bon Appetit .

Popcorn & Movies. A Blue sky and White Puffy Clouds. Fish & Chips. Some things in life just seem to compliment each other so effortlessly. A sort of Ying to the Yang in life's constant motion. For me the perfect compliment to a wet drab winter Monday is a hot grilled cheese Sandwich. Nothing else quite says comfort eating like gluttonous amounts of cheese roasted between sugary processed white toast. So Lo and behold my predicament when I had to quickly deliver my gf her debt card that she had forgotten on her way to work. So life being the beautiful and mysterious mistress she is, plopped me into central Newmarket with the craving for a sammich and very little time. Luckily my better half had a most wonderful suggestion. Why not the local French bakery she got her filled rolls from (calling them filled rolls is an insult to the fine gastronomic French delicacys they were, but we are a much simpler bunch here in nz). Walking in I imagined an old inn, somewhere in the south of France. Where fine wine, gourmet cheeses aswell as rustic bread was cheap and plenty. However while I was awoken from my dream, the French food paradise remained. Now while it may not be cheap the food was definitely abundant and beautiful. Never in my life had I seen so much joy expressed through pastry. Every croissant, baguette and brioche breathed new life into my beautiful lean but winter beaten body. I chose the aptly named Croque- Monsieur a fancy ham and cheese toasty accompanied in his seductive bed of fresh lettuce and vinaigrette dressing. If this sandwich were a man and I a young lady I would not be ashamed to say I would easily have succumbed to this fine fellows charms. With every bite I was sent more and more into ecstacy. Now excuse me while I calm myself down. Overall an amazing experience for just a fraction more than a normal bakery.

5 Sense Scale
Sight: beautiful French inn bustling with real French expats. Fresh produce and wines lining abundant shelves.

Sound: French with a smattering of wealthy house wife's from Remuera and Newmarket enjoying a hot morning cuppa.

Smell: cheese, chocolate, flowers. Name Everything warm and good in a French village, I smelt it here.

Touch: Woody furniture and floor, grainy bread. Over eager Burnt fingers from touching the bread too soon.

Taste: had to leave the best for last. What can I say it was a perfect cheese sandwich on a cold wet Monday. Sophia Angela Collins

Amazing cheese and wine store in Newmarket and an expanded cafe to satisfy all your French cheese cravings!

You can eat in and order from a menu or grab a bite to eat takeaway! Both are good.... their special croquet monsieur made with raclette is superb!

Yep definitely a solid 5.0. Wifey asked a French expat (whom she worked with at TVNZ), where is a good french café to go for brunch? He recommended this place as being more authentic and reasonably priced. His favorite was their cheese platter so we had the cheeseboard platter. It came in two sizes ($15.00 & $30.00) Has great assortment of cheeses with bread, mustard n pate etc. We went with the $30.00 platter which was probably a bit too much for two. We ordered this with wonderful coffees. In hindsight should have gone with a wine (Oh well next time) with the meal, It was an excellent experience. We will definitely be back here to stock up on my French blues and to try other dishes. The staff here really "represent," lovely bunch of people. We left with a loaf, more cheese n meats for later. Proclaimed I will be back tomorrow ( to be told they are not open on Sunday. but hey they probably have earned their rest.)

Amazing! Will visit again for sure! Everything about this cafe is so good that I wanted to return to dinner when I have not yet finished my lunch. But they only open until 4:30. :)) The half chicken dish was yummy!!

Only found out about this place in the last month because a friend told me about the amazing wine and liquer selection upstairs.
I had the baked egg with a prosciutto type of ham, mushrooms and a punchy french cheese.
He had the duck and porcini sausage with potato and a poached egg.
Both dishes were exceptional, the baked egg being my favourite and winning by a small margin. I lived the richnesd of this dish and the bread that accompanied it was really fresh too.
The porcini sausage was really flavoursome and not as heavy as the other dish. Everything tasted and looked like it was made with care.
I think this is my new favourite breakfast spot. Looking forward to trying more of the menu!

Been there twice, enjoyed some nice pastries. Haven't tried their coffee yet. I heard this place from my other coworkers. They love the almond croissant there. What I had wasn mille feuille and palmier. OMG!!!!!!! It was like heaven..... It was sooooo delicious and way out of my expectation. I would definitely give 10/5 for the food haha. However, not all the wait staffs are trained properly I think. Some people are nice and patient but some are not, and makes you feel like they would not want to serve you because you are young and alone. I only give 3.5/5 for the service :(. The decor is cute and French.

So...did a quick pitstop here for some French pastries - almond croissant and pain au raisin takeaway and was super glad I did because they were fresh and just delicious!!! Moist, buttery, not too sweet.
Will be back for more and perhaps the full French experience by dining in :p

My mother's favourite cafe in Newmarket, so eventually I made it past since it is off the beaten track somewhat for an amateur diner like myself. However having so much French food, pastries, wine and cheese all in one place it is hard not to walk around without drooling. It's one of the few cafes where I have wanted to try to eat everything since it all looked so good! Ended up having the tomato salad, but with so much to choose from I might have to come past again several times!

This place is amazing!!! The food has beautiful flavours and is very authentic. Everything here is delicious and they do lovely sweets as well.
You can also buy biscuits, chocolates, cheese, wine etc which are all fantastic.

A very busy cafe. We had the vegetarian rolls, takeaway. Unfortunately we think either the olive tapenade or marinated eggplant added to the vegetarian roll, had a very distinct strong taste and flavour, and would be an acquired taste; and not to our palate. The lemon tart was great, but on the expensive side. A quaint store with French people serving. Very popular place.

Hidden gem in Newmarket. I had my lunch there this morning, and I really went there because it was easy to find car park. People who were working there were french, and I just love it when the staffs creates that vibe and atmosphere. Upstairs, there is a wine cellar if anyone likes wine too. The menu is in french, so can't recall what the food was called, but loved it!!!

While out with a friend today we stumbled apon this place by chance. We had coffees and pastries. The pastries were amazing and the coffee also pretty good. Great little place just wish we had of had more time to eat some more of the amazing looking treats on display.

This place is bordering on (and may evolve into) a full French bistro (a propper one - not the dumbed down kiwi ones we get). Yes their offer is as French as it gets - but not yet extensive enough to truely be... Also their wine menu (sic licence) is still on the way. That said their dish of the day (I have had duck, steak, pigs cheeks, chicken etc.) and sides are to die for and their sauces are sublime. It's also terrific value. All that is missing is the wine menu, a more extensive menu and opening a few nights a week and then who would need to fly to France! This place (and a few other of my favs.) should truely embarass some of the new big names and contenders in town for my wallet and palete. You get a sense here that quality and flavour are paramount The service is also really good - and plenty of local parking. Can't wait for the wine menu and possible menu and time extensions.

I wish I could give Latelier du Fromage a higher rating than 5! I had the 'Meal of the Day' for lunch and it was BEAUTIFUL! I had chicken breast, potatoes and asparagus. The chicken was so moist, the potatoes had the perfect amount of sauce on them, and the asparagus was super tasty! I also had a Canelé for dessert and it reminded me of being in Bordeaux all over again! It is so lovely to be able to eat and buy beautiful authentic french food in Auckland!

Bonjour! This is a place where you can find the real French people and of course the food and also wine here! I came here for Lunch, this is a lil hidden gem, tucked away in the back lane, and it's really busy. The ambience, once you step in, it's a whole new world, feels like you are in France.

The menu on the board is in French, time to brush up your French now... Parlez-vous anglais? Oh yes! They do speak English and they are really helpful and friendly. They do have English menu printed at the counter and was happy enough to explain and recommend the dish to us.

They have a range of pastries in the cabinet and another cabinet wide range of cheese! Upstairs of this restaurant is my favorite place, wine cellar with a wide range of French wines, one of my favorite place to come for lunch! I have been here a couple of time but never written a review, here I am writing and recommending today, hope my fav place not gonna be more pack when I am here next time... My fav hidden gem!

Today, I have ordered:
Coffee - Flat White and
Main - Saucisson aux trompettes de la mort (Garlic and Black Trumpet Mushrooms, Saucisson, Comte and Agria Potatoes Pave, Poached Eggs and Red Wine Shallots Dressing.

Ambience / Decor: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Food / Taste: 4/5 - Main and Coffee
Price: 4/5 - Affordable
Overall: 4/5
Bonjour!!! it really is a FRECH PRIDE!!

This is what happend when your GPS is playing up and you end up in a corner out of nowhere, you find a hidden place where all fancy people hangout but they never really do a review because they couldnt be bothered and they wanna keep it to themselves!! Well not anymore, welcome to Latelier du fromage!!

First of all let me tell you what can you see around this little corner, in front of the cafe is a small but beautiful flower shop, beside the restaurant is a french product supplier and take a tour on top of the cafe and there is a hidden cellar of gems, french wine from all over France, name and they have it!

Let me take you to the cafe side where the ambience is simple and very clean, the wait staff are really nice and helpful explaining to us all about the menu. We ordered the "plateau de fromage" cheese of the day with baguettte, absolutely gorgeous cheeses my favorite one is the 18month old cheese that she recommended we also ordered the "bavette" which is wagyu skirt topped with light creamy blue cheese salad and potato, the other dish is the "trumpettes de la mort" with is mixed mushroom serrved with potato and poached egg. Both are really good dishes the mushroom with the egg are perfect and nice combination of the beef and chunks of blue cheese are great, I wish that my beef is rare not medium but all in all its a thumbs up.

french breaky is delisshhhh, great experience so come and visit them!!!!

Worth a visit for the cute French Style Cafe Food and Coffee and deli food, plus a fantastic upstairs range of authentic French Wine. There is more cafe seating upstairs, which has quite a different ambience to downstairs. I wonder if they do wine tasting here? I wouldn't mind trying a few wines before buying. Most of the staff appear to be French, and this place has a nice friendly atmosphere. There seems to be plenty of parking outside this store on the weekends.
Coffee4two
An intriguing wee French place, as when you first walk in it has a lovely wee cafe setup with your typical french food, though I feel not a big enough selection and coffee etc....but when you walk up the stairway for extra seating in a more dimly lit area, you are surrounded by a French wine and champagne cellar, and it feels like you've been transported to France. This larger area upstairs appears to also cater for venues. There are literally hundreds of french bottles of wine and champagne in the cellar upstairs - you can have a wander through their huge selection and choose out a bottle or two for yourself....
