A lovely authentic French bistro specializing in French cheeses, deli eats and decadent patisserie and coffee by day on the ground floor, this two floor venue houses also Maison Vauron, an upstairs cellar d’or restaurant open for private functions and dinners.
Liked:
1. The authenticity of the French speaking service staff, general decor and buzz from a crowd of enthusiastic foodies to French locals missing their favorite French fix. It was a full house on a Friday at noon!
2. The food - consistently good and authentic - from the choc eclairs which jumped off the display counter onto plates the minute they were put out - to the equally fast disappearing hearty quiches and sandwiches, each served with a small side salad.
We could not come here without enjoying their amazing croque monsieur served warm from the griddle - crispy on the outside and cheesy gooey on the inside.
Also ordered the tapenade served with bread, gerkins and leeks which was very simple but hearty and full of flavour - so good that we ordered another side of bread to finish it off.
Then there was the mushroom gnocchi, a small hearty but well presented portion full of flavour and great texture.
My favorite was the Duck saucisson - an excellent choice served with runny poached egg - a bit like having a rustic French version of a egg bene.
3. Do leave room for Dessert and coffee. Next time I’ll be faster w the eclairs.

The moment I stepped into L'Atalier Du Fromage, I felt like I walked into a little French cheese boutique in France. I immediately noticed cheeses for Africa and a satisfying whiff of fresh buttery pastries. I was in love! We had to wait for a while to get a table and this was an afternoon on a week day so be sure to make a booking everytime you go. For our mains, we had the Duck Saucisson (Sausage) with a potato poached eggs and a red wine sauce. Delicious and solid homemade sausage and the red wine sauce was out of this world. The other dish we had was the potato truffle gnocci with poached egg and a veloute (white sauce). The gnocci was nice and soft with that hint of truffle and the veloute went so well with it. Lastly the croque monsieur was incredible with its melted cheese and golden bread crust. This was heavenly, I could have 3 of these! L'Atelier Du Fromage serves amazing food, amazing service and perfect ambience!
Nice food and friendly service.
Tidy and clean environment.
Large selection of wine 🍷
Professional wine suggestions to match with the foods.
Thank you to be here ! I discover that they made eclairs au chocolat and as a french I love it. In addition to that it's the real one. If you want to buy raclette cheese it's perfect. There are plenty of French products and the staff is amazing. I love this place to buy my cheese and pastries.
This has to be one of my favourite places in Newmarket. The food is mouth watering, especially the Bavette De Boeuf Wagyu. Tried the Gnocchi Aux Cepes Et Aux Chataignes and it wasn't too bad but have realised gnocchi isn't for me. Definitely coming back 🤤🤤 10/10
Very nice french cafe in New Market. What a shame it's not open for dinner. The interior decor is sooo French. I love every little detail of this place. Food is amazing. Love everything that we tried today. Happy belly on a Monday afternoon :) You know it's French when you can have good food and good wine haha. Definitely will go back to try other lovely dishes 👍👍👍
If you're near the bp on Khyber pass and want some lunch, make sure you come here.
The mains are absolutely delicious. Wagyu skirt steak was a punch in flavour. Highly recommended.
Also the cheeses available are very very nice. So many choices. I love their royal truffle cheese. It's just the best. I don't even care that I'm a little lactose intolerant...
Been coming here for the past 3 years. It never disappoints.
My daughter likes coming with me too, feels like a market with plenty of options and ingredients to take home and eat.
Patte’s are very yummy, truffle cheese too. Sandwiches ready for you to grab on the go. Delicious cooked food also.

Busy place with fabulous french food. This is one of my mum's favourites and she introduced it to me. I enjoyed the unique food, and it was well cooked
Nice French style cafe. Fresh baked bread, a lot of cheese, wine shop upstairs, relax music all in one. Food was awesome, nice presentation and delicious flavour. Service super friendly
A shop with a very comfortable environment. The service is very attentive, and the dishes feel very French. It seems that the origin and taste are as classic as possible, not like an eclectic version made to cater to New Zealand tastes. It belongs to the store that I like to drive for half an hour to come and go.
5 star, very rare and hardly spotted. This place is just great, coffee is nicely roasted and with plenty of punch however the food is the real winner here and their huge variety of take away Cheeses.
Love the steak with blue cheese and the duck is also very special. (See Pics)
This could go down as my last supper. We will be back again and again and again!!
Hidden treasure. I went there by my french colleague. They have nice cabinet foods and cheese. You would enjoy even you dont know any french name on the menu. I am going for food menu next time. Cant wait to go there. But little salty.
Great! Great!
Foods are delicious!
Really adore duck sausages and potato with bacon.
And the steak is also good!
Don’t forget duck liver... with breads!
The second floor is a wine cellar, calming and cozy... buy some French wines for your friends !
I am absolutely regular customer🥰
Always go for lunch here when in Auckland. Great trad French food, always perfectly cooked and presented. It also has a fab cheese shop and an amazing wine cellar upstairs.
Delicious meals and sweets.
My family and I really enjoyed this place.
We are sure to visit again
Definitely a gastronomic delight. Enjoyed the ham and cheese croissant with a tasty salad on the side and a small bottle of a French white. Pear tart for dessert. My friend had the duck sausage and is a regular patron. Always busy and popular.
So french, so chic, so authentic, L’atilier Du Fromage was recommended to us as a must-try before we departed Auckland. We came early on a Monday morning and received the warmest of greetings with a merry “bonjour!” from the waitress behind the counter.
An array of patisserie greeted us to tempt us behind the glass counter, shiny and expertly crafted. Likewise I was surrounded in cheese-heaven by every different kind of fromage I could concieve. We settled in for our brunch; a filled croissant, a pain-au-chocolat, and from the kitchen menu the Duck & Porcini Mushroom Sausage, Poached Eggs & Potato.
The coffee that accompanied my breakfast was among the very best I’d had in Auckland; I soon found myself ordering a second cup. We agreed that the croissant was the nicest presentation of a croissant we’d encountered on our travels, coming with a vibrant side salad and dressing, toasted golden perfectly. The pain-au-chocolate was so fresh and flaky, it was divine. The duck & porcini dish had its own bistro elegance, the creamy eggs the perfect accompaniment for the richness of the sausage, the potato element a boulangere stack holding the dish together.
Bathrooms were clean and tidy and soon there was a procession of regular clientele as the Monday morning picked up. One of the most memorable brunches we had in Auckland. Salut!
Love this place. Very good French desserts and cuisine. Can't go wrong. Nice place. Staff are great.
