Review Foxtrot Parlour - Auckland Central

Matthew Adams
Well here is another breakfast review or brunch if you fancy it. We were lost in the city (near Ponsonby) looking for a spot to eat before heading home and we were fortunate enough to stumble upon Foxtrot Parlour. Oh you never heard of it? Neither did we but so glad we did. I mean if you need to feed several picky eaters this could work. From breakfast burritos to pancakes to muesli. There something for everyone, even the kids. All types of baked goods, they had cinnamon rolls on our day (delicious) and coffee. Yes I know what place doesn't have coffee, but it's good coffee! Get there early if you want a seat though they got fairly busy on our day. They also have both indoor and outdoor seating, to keep in mind if you fancy sitting in the sun. The staff was pleasant and quick with our food and even got my takeaway coffee ready in a jiff as we were leaving. (Did I mention the great coffee). So to recap: Lost (check); Hungry (check); Want some great food with great atmosphere (check, check and check). Find your way here, you will not be disappointed!!

*Updated 17/4/22: Food and coffee are still awesome, however becoming expensive for what you get in comparison to other cafés. The menu can be misleading and didn't have prices for eggs on toast etc. (Photo provided). Great little cafe, music good, staff friendly and efficient. Coffee was very good and cosy atmosphere. Only complaint is the rickety seating and tables.

We were visiting from Nelson and googled breakfast in Ponsonby and this cafe came up. So glad we popped in. Outstanding service, the food was delicious and we had a really good time during our visit - they even popped Dolly Parton on for us. Highly recommend a visit here. It will not disappoint. The coffee was great too.

I had the lamb Moroccan meat pie it was fabulous. All the plates were smaller but very tasty. The coffee was average.

There was a huge selection of baked goods including a few gluten free options, a nice brunch menu, lots of drinks to pick from (including milkshakes!). Coffee was delicious ! Small sitting area so it may be hard to get a spot

Wow! Clearly I need to get out more. We discovered this place from The Urban List Auckland as one of the top 18 best doughnuts in Auckland. What a wonderful Cafe with a great ambience and touched in between other wonderful little shops. The staff were wonderful and friendly. The doughnuts that we came for were fun and messy and delicious. We had the Berry and caramel and vanilla custard flavour doughnuts which you inject yourselves and we also had a berry milkshake it was all wonderful. We loved the little cafe and would definitely go back again for more delightful treats that you could see in the cabinets and those pies look amazing so we will be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Only had coffee but was amazing.

Excellent food. Very good coffee (had a long black). A little higher on the price side but quality matched price

This is the place you bring out-of-town guests to show them why you live in the coolest part of the country. Finding a seat is tricky and reminiscent of musical chairs at a kids party. We had the Rumblethumps, insanely good, and the black sticky rice which came topped with gorgeous fruit and coconut cream was next level. We'll definitely be coming back!

We love Foxtrot Parlour, we've been coming here several times over the past 8 months and it's consistently great. Amazing freshly baked savoury and sweet things - the cakes are all every bit as delicious as they look. The coffee is excellent, and the service is superb. It's a very relaxed and quirky place, very Auckland and very good !!

Always enjoyed coffee here, food wise presentations are great, their pies are great, Thai Chicken is awesome but the beef pies is average, the pie pastry need some improvement, that's just personal opinion, overall I enjoyed eating here, wonderful atmosphere good music

The donuts here are the best I've had. Super filing and delicious and fun to eat. Nice rustic atmosphere and friendly staff. I also had the chicken livers dish and it was super tasty too. Definitely recommend.

Love eating at this place when I am in Auckland...great coffee and food and the lovely Tara is a real angel...so welcoming and friendly...I will be back. 😊😊😊

When they say that "It is in the small details", they are right. This place is all about details. Cozy, happy, awesome. This is my favorite place for having tea, which leads me to say that, here I've had the best Earl Grey tea ever. Do not miss out on this place!

Perfect portion and great flavours. Highly recommend. Excellent service and very welcoming.

The pies and quiches are delicious! I tend to go for the onion and feta quiche which is really creamy and soft - it’s paired with a delicious chutney that helps cut through the creaminess. The salmon quiche is also great when I feel like something a little lighter. I’ve ordered a few sweet things from there cabinet before and they’ve been a little hit and miss - brioches have been a bit too dry.

▪️Injectable donut & chicken, leek pie-4/5▪️<br/>Foxtrot’s injectable vanilla custard donut is SOOOOOO GOOD! I loved how soft and fresh it was. As a 9am breakfast, I probably had judgmental glances as the waiter served my poor life choice but YOLO😂 I also had their chicken, bacon and leek pie which was AMAZING. The pastry was a tad dry and overly flaky BUT THE FILLING was worth every bite. The relish accompanied with the pie was great added touch too. The whole meal including a flat white came to $22.50 which considering I really enjoyed my pie and donut, is worth the price. Definitely recommend their pie and donut😊

The meals are good but we found the hair mixed with the source of the meal and what we need is just a sincere apology, but they keep telling us the excuses!!! Like chefs have no hair, does it means we put it in by ourselves? Totally unacceptable!!

We had a very nice brunch here a while back<br/>Food was excellent<br/>Great flavours and quality<br/>Service was nothing to write home about<br/>Needs improv<br/>Overall good experience

Came in for a coffee here and when we first sat down no one came upto us so we just seated ourselves. The table we sat at had an empty glass of beer there and no one cleared it away the entire time we were there. A fly ended up flying into the glass at one point which was just disgusting. I had a peppermint tea and it was good - you can't go wrong with peppermint tea. My Mum had a latte and my sister had a ginger lemon tea and the drinks were all fine. It was more the service & atmosphere that were disappointing. Wouldn't recommend.

Cute little shop inside ponsonby central ; have lots of deliciously looking cabinet food ; tried their cardamon donut - not my taste but the texture really soft and good, their white chocolate cake was so good

So went in on a cold morning to grab some breakfast from a local cafe. I ordered the Bangers and mash which came out quite quickly, however the baked beans were a little bit undercooked, it didn't really suit the whole idea of the dish. the Mash was really nice same with the pork fennel sausages, but the gravy was lacking in richness. Omelette was overcooked and looked like it has been through the wringer, the bread that came with it was too thick around 1 inch in width... something that I don't see much of. Ordered a pie to go, took it home found that the pastry on the bottom was thick to the point that it was undercooked, so eating raw pastry with the filling was very unpleasant. Doughnut felt like it has been over-proofed and lost its nice and fluffy texture only to be replaced with a very very dense doughnut. Coffee was alright not the best but better than the food.

Had coffee here while waiting for a friend’s appointment to finish. It was a bit hard to find as it was among a number of stalls, restaurants and coffee shops. Ambiance was great—very hip and chic. Coffee was amazing, as always. <br/><br/>Service could improve a bit though. I asked for a menu and wasn’t given one—staff said whatever was laid out in front of me was pretty much it. Okay. I just ordered iced latte and iced americano (pretty basic) so as not to trouble her too much 🤷🏻‍♀️

Foxtrot Parlour Cafe is damn disappointing. Been here twice and let me tell you sis you won't see me there again. The first time I went there was to try the Foiyo doughnuts that everyone posts on there instagram and you inject the filling into the doughnut. I mean it's super fun injecting the filling into the doughnut but the doughnut itself is so dry. The second time I went with my parents for lunch and was the worst experience i've had at a cafe before, the staff were running around everywhere and seemed super unorganised, I ordered the rumbledthumps and it was disgusting I had one spoon full and couldn't stomach anymore, on the menu it says 'middle bacon braised in cider' I got completely cat-fished because it came and it was like puled pork...YUCK, we ended up sending my meal back because it was so disgusting, don't even take the time to go here, there are much nicer places in Ponsonby for sure x

Came here on a busy Saturday. Got the peanut pancakes which was Divine. When it was first put In front of me at the table I was a little annoyed that it was only 1 but I actually struggled to finish it cause it was sooo much. It was light and fluffy and probably the best pancake I’ve ever had!!! It came with this really creamy vanilla bean ice cream and a coconut infused sauce which I couldn’t get enough of. Also got a mango smoothie. That was alright. Nothing I would write home about. Most staff were friendly but there was one that was a bit rude.... she dropped water all over while she was cleaning the table which then went down our legs etc and then when we asked if she needed any help she just wanted to know if the seat was wet...... the hek!

We had coffee for 3 people. Bitter, bitter, bitter. We added sugar to sweeten things up. Despite this, very very bitter. I suspect that they use cheap coffee beans. We won’t be back.

Went here on Wednesday afternoon, it was pretty quiet. The girl behind the counter obviously did not want to be there, she did not offer any friendly customer service and getting any info on the cabinet food was like getting blood from a stone. Got a donut and left. Plenty of cafes in Ponsonby to go to. Nothing worse than going somewhere where the staff is hostile. Will not be returning.

A great cafe tucked inside Ponsonby central. They do a range of freshly made pies and quiches as well as cabinet treats in addition to a full brunch menu. It's also one of the first places in Auckland that serves the injectable donuts! It's a nice place for Sunday brunch or dessert whenever you feel like a treat!
Angela
The coffee was roasted really nicely. Vibe is nice and so is service. I just ordered the self infecting donut - it was pretty nicely and the dough was done very well. Although quite heavy and sweet, I definately enjoyed it :)
Foodslut
We waited an hour for our meals which were not placed but dumped on our table by the rather sassy unfriendly waitress. It takes an hour apparently to bring 4 glasses and water to the table. The cashier was also very sassy which came of as rude. <br/>Food was not good over priced and tasteless and not the best Spanish eggs I’ve ever had.
Janey 😋
Lovely location in the heart of Ponsonby. Staff were really energetic and friendly. I ordered a medium mocha and the akaroa which was presented beautifully. The sandwich was fresh and tasty with kicks of lemon zest and beetroot with each mouthful. The coffee could have been better and unfortunately size was underwhelming.

Lively ambiance which I guess is not surprising for Ponsonby cafes, Foxtrot is a sweet place to meet up for coffee and something to eat. I came here to catch up with a few friends. Was a nice experience, the bustling atmosphere was great and the coffee was pretty good. Had ordered a pie myself and thought it was quite nice, great pastry on the outside which was crisp while the filling was hearty.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Just a great café that does everything well<br/><br/>Overall Grade: B+
Amber Vanessa
Had raspberry jam doughnut - pretty expensive! The cream was great probably the best thing about it and generous amount but the doughnut itself was dry on the outside and not in a crispy good way and really oily tasting and the dough was not soft either 😓

Ponsonby Central in all its trendy glory would have been our favourite lunch spot if only parking wasn’t such a perilous adventure Every. Single. Time. But it’s hard to stay away from Foxtrot Parlor, especially when our last review was a whopping 4 years ago when it first opened - we felt an update was much needed. The place was packed as always, as was their cabinet with a succulent selection of pies like rabbit, moroccan lamb, beef and stilton. Then their printed menu promised everything from Peanut Parlour Pancakes to the traditional English Kedgeree and a Vietnamese Banh Mi to boot. We were spoilt for their choice in this eclectic café, and love the table numbers that were made from repurposed car number plates. If you’ve still got room for dessert, do try their donuts, complete with what looked like vintage surgical syringes from the 1900s… in the best possible way.<br/> Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/foxtrot

Stumbled upon here quite accidentally but very glad we did. <br/><br/>Ordered the haloumi and the peanut pancake which seems to be the highlight, and for good reason - it tastes just as amazing as the pictures look. The cabinet food all looked really awesome as well, would definitely have a hard time choosing next time I come! Overall just a decent, busy little brunch place in Ponsonby central.

A busy cafe in situated in Ponsonby Central. Staff are okay. Not sure if they are just focused on work to be done, but showed little to no interest to customers (and us). There is a bit of a wait for food. One thing’s for sure is that they do great pies! We tried the lamb, Thai Chicken and the Chicken, Leek & Bacon. We did not get water as well for the table as well (even after requesting it). The interior is nice, it gives you a retro vibe.

Service was excellent. <br/>Ambience was also great. <br/>I had toasted muesli with poached fruits, which was very nice but also very sweet (with dried fruit in the muesli) - would be nice to offer a sugar free toasted muesli. Coffee was okay. Would still recommend.
Juliet
Came here this morning for breakfast with a friend. Ambience and staff were both good. It was busy but we were able to order quickly and the food arrived pretty quickly too which was good. I had the haloumi with an added egg which was nice. I also ordered a long black with a side of milk and hot water which they didn't have an issue with unlike some cafes which was nice and good coffee. Will be back if around the area.

First brunch out in a looooong time.<br/><br/>Saving money is testing my resolve.  Although, as much as I miss sampling the 09 brunch spots seeing the bank balance creeping upwards is a nice silver lining.<br/><br/>Foxtrot Parlour cafe.<br/>The layout is utterly rustic and old school. You'll find yourself sitting on the same wooden chairs your 12 year old butt sat on at school while attempting long division.  I felt like roman sandals should be a necessity in this cafe. <br/><br/>The service has perfected the "I will give you just enough acknowledgement to classify my role as a service but I won't come across as too hospitable as I need to exhibit an element of coolness". There are typewriters from bygone errors littering shelves, none of the cutlery match, none of the furniture matches ….. are you picturing it yet? Yes, I was checking for the line-up of Vespa’s out the back and the variety of beards on staff. This was an all female crew this morning but one can never be too close minded.<br/><br/>For someone who doesn't eat eggs and loves to chow down on dinner leftovers for breakfast (leftover curries, lasagne, mince etc.), the brunch menu is a godsend. Foxtrot Cafe, you had me at Bahn Mi, I scrolled some more ……. Beef Randang !?!?! YES! Foxtrot Café, you have me at Beef Randang.<br/><br/>Coffee was delivered to the table. What comes with rustic old furniture are defects, uneven legs of the table saw coffee quickly spilling about, this was observed by FOH but nothing done.  Two Ponsonby house wives having a midweek catch up over coffee next to us, one of them perched on the end of long wooden bench seat, similar to what you’d have in a school playground. As she shifted her weight, up went the other end of the bench seat, crashing down on top of the table, down went the Ponsonby housewife sprawled across the café floor. She was ok, only a bruised ego.  A bit of excitement for her and a red face but at least she fell off hip furniture?<br/><br/>Now the important stuff, the food. The curry was served with pickled cabbage and 2 little balls of doughy naan. The flavour of the curry was good, strong on the cardamom and cinnamon. My constructive feedback would be:<br/><br/>- Serve with normal flattened naan, more texture, less doughy, easier to eat.<br/><br/>- Keep the pickled cabbage as a condiment with the curry, have less of it but add a little rice to the dish.<br/><br/>- Trim the fat off your beef before making the curry. No one wants to chew beef fat for breakfast, no one.<br/><br/>I would encourage the chefs to visit Farang in Kingsland to give them ideas on improving Sth East Asian styled brunches.

Foxtrot Parlour is one of my favourite cafes - great coffee and sweet treats! I can't go past the savoury scones or the creamy field mushrooms off the menu for brunch.

Best of the best! Absolutely love this place. The coffee is on point and the service is always 100%. Will be back again, and again, and again :)

Came here the other day with a few friends to try the donuts everyone raves about. The filling for the donut was super yum (chocolate) and the donut was very big but I do wish they had of warmed the donut up. Will be asking them if they can do this next time.
Herah
Came here to try the donuts after I had read about them in the Urban List. I went on a Sunday so understandably it was busy but the wait staff seemed to not care about what was going on. After waiting a few minutes trying to attract the attention of the waitstaff, then popping up to the counter to try and find someone to ask if I was meant to seat myself or if they had a wait list, I just sat down.  I really should have just gone home at that point but the call of donuts was too strong. <br/><br/>The treats at the counter looked amazing, I have to give them that. I ordered two donuts, one salted caramel and one chocolate. Damn. After reading their other reviews of people who have raved about their donuts, I think I got some donuts that were sitting out on the bench for a week or something. Incredibly dense and stodgy. Trying to inject those things was an exercise in futility because of how dense they were, whatever filling you tried to put in them had no place to go and just squirted right back out at you.  The fillings were nice so it wasn't completely inedible but it was so doughy and sad.<br/><br/>I didn't think it was possible for donuts to make you sad but there you go.
Charlotte Gibbs
Coffee is yum yum - on point and very consistent! The fitout is cute and I like the style they have going on, makes you feel very comfortable. The service can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes I feel like the person behind the counter doesn't want me there, but everyone has bad days right. Man thing is the coffee is amazing! Have never tried the amazing cabinet food that I always drool over however it looks AMAZING!!!
Octagon Pie
AAAAAMAZING! I had 'The Akaroa' and it was sooo yummmy! The salmon was soooo flavoursome and succulent! Looooved it!! The cafe had a lot of charm and character, and the staff were lovely! Would highly recommend!
Pauline Abeleda
Very good and left me satisfied when I left. I tried the injectable donuts and they were cool and very interesting I was so impressed although, the time I went I only saw about 1 or 2 staff so my order came to me a little late but at the end it was very good :)
New Aucklanders
Foxtrot Parlour is the bakery in Ponsonby. You can eat delicious unique doughnuts. You can choose creams from three flavors (Custard, chocolate and berry) and inject cream into a doughnut by yourself. <br/><br/>Staffs are friendly. They teach you how to eat doughnut kindly. You don’t need to wait long time because foods are served quickly. I think the furniture of the café is cute and we can relax there. My only complaint is that the doughnut isn’t cheap and little difficult to eat.<br/><br/>I recommend this café to anyone who wants to eat unique sweets.
Fay Brown
The place is fantastic. I ordered a soy cappuccino and a coconut brioche from here! A coconut brioche?!?! It was so delicious! I had never tasted one in my life but it was so beautiful! It's a nice cafe to catch up with a friend at. It's a bit noisy, but that's what you would expect for a busy cafe in Ponsonby Central :) Good stuff!
Diogo Reck
I can't complain about the food here, but service was quite lost and made a difference.<br/><br/>After ordering a pie, a sweet tart and a coffee, the waitress simply brought as they were ready. So I got the tart first, then the coffee and finally the pie. I wasn't having a meal, but still it would be better if they had brought first the savoury and then the dessert, right? But they didn't even bothered to ask!<br/><br/>The staff also did not ask at any moment if I wanted a glass of water, and I came to grab one myself the unfinished pie was almost taken away from the table.<br/><br/>This would have happened if I had taken five seconds more to get the water, although my belongings were still on the table. As the waitress saw me coming back for it she simply ran away, not even bothering to say she was sorry.<br/><br/>My Moroccan pie was good, but that wasn't enough to compensate the poor service.
Penguin93
Went there with a friend for breakfast a the other day. The service was average. We were told to take a seat, and therefore assumed the menus would be brought to us. After a few minutes of waiting we went to retrieve them ourselves. The waiter we had was lovely though, very friendly. The food was excellent, as was the coffee. I had coddled eggs and my friend had the rumblethumps. Both where cooked wonderfully and didn't take long for the food to come out.The layout was a little confusing to start with. It's hard to tell as you walk, in where Foxtrot begins and the cage next door ends. The had some excellent cabinet food out as well. It's got quite a nice atmosphere as well, and a lovely sunny spot.
Jessica
The layout of this area is a bit confusing if you haven't been to the lane in ponsonby before. First thing is you'll be lucky to find a seat but if you do, feel free to give this place a go so you can gather your own opinion. When I went I got the peanut parlour pancake and salted caramel foiyo donuts. The donuts are very cool and a fun idea but the donut it's self is very dry. The presentation of the pancake also was pretty but dry also. Maybe I just didn't choose the right options but oh well. Also I got a banana smoothie and well dam they are tiny. So not really value for money there. In the lane there are so many nice places to go eat, I personally would go there rather than this place again.
Hungusmcfatty
Very popular Saturday brunch spot but meals fly out the tiny kitchen fairly quickly. The Earl pulled beef sandwich is legit as is the scrambled eggs (ask for them to be runny if you like them on the softer side).

Apart from the fantastic coffee and always personable crew behind and infront of the counter....the friday cake have to be seen to be believed.<br/>Recommended.
Jo
Love the pancake! Beautiful and delicious. It's definelty enough to for two to share if you are not too hungry :) but the donut I found it average but the custard sauce is really good! Will recommend to friends :)
LoveEatLive
We went there for the donuts.. worth it.<br/><br/>Service - 4/5<br/>Donut itself - 4/5 <br/>Ambiance - 3.5/5<br/><br/>Overall experience - 4/5<br/>Cost: so reasonable!<br/><br/>I guess the company and motive matters.. I had good company and fulfilled my motive of trying the donuts.. so I am happy. Good experience.
Kristi Vermes
Today I had the stuffed kumara and it was amazing! :) coffee is always great consistency. Staff are friendly and attentive. Cabinet is always full with freshly baked food. Next time I gotta try the donut or pancake ;) relaxing place.
Pooja Pamula
The cake photos on Facebook are absolutely a myth .....ordered a birthday cake and nothing like it shows in the photo...they don't have a cake box for the cake (kidding me?) <br/>Very disappointing!!!!!
Chelsea Sellwood
I visit the place quite often and they make amazing hot chocolates and coffees! Trouble getting parking in Ponsonby, but difficult to eat there because of it but once you get a park and sit down and have a nice hot chocolate and cake, it makes it all better ❤️
Steph
Hey Foxtrot. Love your food, Love your staff, Love your coffee BUT don't love your flies. Have been trying to ignore over a number of visits but seriously it's time to scrub everything (including customer tables and chairs) with hot detergent water and then sanitise. A quick wipe-over with a cloth isn't cutting it. Maybe some advice from a pest controller would help restore things to the way we love our Foxtrot Parlour and then you'll be worth a 5 star review. All the best.

Great Coffee, service and sweet treats :)  The service was very efficient even though the cafe was full.  We enjoyed the gingerbread cake and injectable donut - delish!!
Bronwyn Koh
Quaint spot in Ponsonby central. I ordered the bahn mi - the pork wasn't too bad but with baguette bread and just lean pulled pork, it needed a little more chicken liver pate and maybe some salad and sauce as it got progressively dryer. My friend got the Moorish omelette which were average. Also tried a couple of their signature doughnuts as they looked like so much fun! Definitely messy and enjoyable to eat however very mediocre. <br/>One thing that bothered me were the dozens of flies constantly buzzing around. Other than that, nothing I would rave about.
Rhegan Smith
On the fence with this little cafe, cute interior - love the window seats. I ordered the homemade muesli with poached seasons fruits and my boyfriend had the pancake. The homemade muesli was on par with about every other muesli I've had - nothing exceptional, the pancake was a little different, presentation was great and for someone who's not usually impressed with cafe pancakes, I enjoyed the few bites I stole. We also tried the fill-your-own donuts which were a little bit of a novelty but tasty all the same. Would recommend for a quick breakfast in Ponsonby!!
Fernando
Service is poor. Staff with attitude. They get the orders wrong. Coffees are expensive and small. Went with 5 more mates and they had the same issue . <br/>Doughnuts are average btw. It seems the staff cannot handle the workload. Not recommended at all.

Great soy lattes. This has become our go to place for coffee after lunch at Ponsonby Central. The staff are friendly and provide great customer service. The coffee here is the right mix of bitterness and smoothness that makes for amazing coffee. Well worth a visit
Judy Chhy
Came here last year cause I saw they had injecting donuts which was pretty cool and something really unique! It was averagely nice but the place has a chill atmosphere

We often walk from AKL marina, Ponsonby Rd and back down to marina. along the way there are loads of great breaky spots. Foxtrot is in Ponsonby Central and the food is a great Sunday brunch kind of hit, the Akoroa Salmon roll was really good
Alex Hogg
The coffee here is so delightful! First look of the cafe was the ongoing theme of mismatching in decoration! It definitely had the ponsonby style and feel to the whole cafe, music and all.<br/>The coffees that I got was their moccachino and short black. The moccachino was a bit too sweet for me; im not too sure if that was their brand of hot chocolate or whatever. I unfortunately didnt finish it but I was still satisfied. The short black was sooooo delish. Despite on how strong it was, it was morish and the best short blaclnive had!<br/>For food I had got the thai chicken pie which was at a very good price as it came with balsamic salad and salsa. The pie itself had the pastry little hard and hard to eat. It was tasty yet things did get messy.<br/>It overall this place is a great place to unwind and have a coffee or a little chat. Beautiful staff and atmosphere yet their pies arent ones to be coming here for.<br/>4.5/5 :)
Chris Morgan
Great little spot in Ponsonby Central with a nice atmosphere. The long black I had was on point and came in a lovely cup and saucer with antique teaspoon. Would be 5 stars but the service was a little slow.
Emily Pavey
Perfect place for breakfast/brunch! I'm a little bit bored of the same old for bunch at Auckland cafes (eggs benedict anyone...?) but this place is something different. Absolutely everything on the menu was just slightly different to what you'd find elsewhere... Was hard to choose, I wanted everything! I settled on the coddled eggs with salmon instead of bacon. Divine!!! Every aspect was perfect - take a look at the pic for a better idea. Others also has coddled eggs (with bacon) and another had kedgeree... All a hit. Coffee was great too. Hope to come back and work through the menu!
Stephy_NakiGirl
Stopped off for brunch before looking at the Xmas markets. Have tried most of the places in Ponsonby Central, but not this spot before.<br/>It was a busy morning but we managed to grab a table. Tables seem to turn over quickly, but we did arrive mid-morning so possibly missed the rush.<br/>There is a good menu with a few different options you won't see elsewhere. Also a great range of cabinet items & amazing cakes & slices! Worth saving room for these if you can.<br/>Service was okay - not overly friendly but nice enough.<br/>Today we ordered the omelette, & beef & mushroom pie. Both were delicious. The omelette came with chorizo & sundried tomato. The accompanying bread & salad partnered well.<br/>The pie was expensive at $11.00 but well worth it for the quality. Delicious pastry that was slightly crumbly without falling apart, & a tender beef & gourmet mushroom filling that was perfectly moist & well cooked. Served with a chutney & rocket salad.<br/>While we were waiting for our meals, we had massive food envy seeing the pancake being delivered to another table. I'm unsure of the taste, but the presentation was amazing with a large pancake, ice cream, peanuts & candy floss on top! Would be keen to go back & try this another day.<br/>No room for any cakes unfortunately.<br/>Coffee was great - no sugar required. Quite a small serving compared to most places which is a little disappointing (they could offer another size?) so we had a second coffee & one green tea. The tea was well brewed & served in a large silver tea pot - very effective. <br/>Happy to visit again.

Came here for a quick bite to eat as we were exploring Auckland on foot and were heading through Ponsonby.  The cool green facade of the markets building caught our eye and we headed over to check it out.<br/><br/>We ordered a flat white, halloumi/eggplant panini, berry smoothie, and a inject-your-own-filling chocolate donut.<br/><br/>The sandwich was pretty good, but the eggplant seemed a little bland.  The smoothie was great and I recommend you try one.  The coffee was good and the donut was awesome and came with a syringe to inject your filling which was very cool.  I suggest rotating and filling from three/four different sides as most of our filling  was in ¼ of the donut after we gave it a try.<br/><br/>Nice spot to chill out and rest from a walk around.
Kelly
I've been wanting to try this place for a long time! <br/> The thought of the d.i.y. when it comes to food really calls to me haha. <br/><br/> I chose to go with the Tahitian Vanilla flavour for my donut filling. <br/> It was delicious! The vanilla goes so well with the sugar and cinnamon donut! Topped with a little bit of cream it's a treat!<br/> I wouldn't go out of my way to drive all the way to Ponsonby for this donut, the special thing would be injecting the filling yourself.<br/><br/> Good donut, if I were in the area I'd know where to go for a sweet treat
Donna&Shane
We popped in here for breakfast .... Not too busy so gave it a try... Got the pancakes... Empire eggs with side of bacon and avacado .... Pancake was light and nice but the roasted peanuts inside it didn't work for us... Rather have berries... Empire eggs were tasty but 1 slice of toast isn't enough, plus it was dry as no butter?!?! The bacon was very crispy and yum and plenty of avacado.
Joanna W
Shouldve tried the famous stuff like doughnuts but we had the kedgeree and rumbledthumps instead.. sorry to say but they are just average. Coffees pretty good tho and so as the atmosphere. Will return for the signature goods.

The setting of the shop was simple and clean settled in the busiest place in Ponsonby. Alot of great eateries all very close by. The experience of injecting donuts was very new for me and also an awesome one. The donut itself was quite hard and the tastes were average. The banana smoothie was very delicious. I will go back to try out the different flavoured smoothies!

The caramel doughnuts were delicious. The chocolate doughnuts were nice too but could have been better. The mango shake was delicious and fresh!

Great spot for breakfast nestled in Ponsonby Central. Service was fast considering it was a busy Sunday and we had no complaints about our meals (which were generously sized).

This place has such nice food on offer but is reasonably overlooked compared to the rest of ponsonby Central. Their baking looks to die for!

Love this café! The vibe, the service, the setup of the café. It's all on point. The fill your own doughnuts are very popular and as seen below it does not disappoint! Very rich and decent portion.<br/>If I had to pick anything it would be to offer more seating, but that's just a tiny suggestion.

Love everything about this place; the friendly staff, relaxed vibes and beautifully displayed cabinet food. You'll find it hard to choose what to order! I ordered the creamy mushrooms which were thick and creamy and the absolute perfect size so I wasn't too full but perfectly satisfied. My friend and I then shared the salted caramel doughnut and loved how you got to inject the filling yourself! Can't wait to go back!

nice spot, especially in the court yard area on a sunny day. Good menu with a few different offerings from your standard cafe. Will be back to try out the rest of the menu. Also a big plus for the amount of avocado I got ✔️
Rose
went here because people recommended it but it wasn't nice and the customer service wasn't good either. The doughnut was very tough and dry and didn't have any texture to it.

Nice little cafe in the Ponsonby central, has a wide range of delicious looking food! Hard to decide which one to try. Really enjoyed their Henhouse Raid & the donut with chocolate sauce! Thought the donut would be too sweet but there was just right enough sweetness to enjoy after a meal:)
Sian Wichman
Delicious however slightly small portion sizes. Have recommended the donut experience to a few people. SO FUN!
Table For One
Delicious food! I've had a lemon slice and a chocolate milkshake from here. The icing on the slice was nice and thick, the right amount of zest and sweetness. While the chocolate milkshake had a slight honeycombe flavour... whatever it was it was great.<br/>We arrived here in the last hour that they were open and the staff seemed a bit frazzled. But the setting was great, seating for large and small groups plus Foxtrot is a part of Ponsonby Central.<br/>I'll definitely be back earlier in the day next time to score some of the foiyo doughnuts!

I went to ponsnobby Central for the first time the Friday before last. I actually was not aware of it until then.<br/>I ordered a quiche from the cabinet to take away - there were no prices listed so to be honest I was a little shocked when they told me $10.50 but went ahead as it was a treat.<br/>I went and sat down with my friends at a table to wait for my order. I waited. And waited. And waited. About twenty minutes later I went to the counter to ask after my order, it had been left on the counter (after being heated) rather than being given to me. <br/>I took the quiche back to work to eat. It was delicious and came with a little side salad of mesculan (sp?) which in my opinion made it completely worth the price and I would happily buy it again.<br/>Edited to add that I did not type ponsnobby, I typed the proper spelling but my phone autocorrected to that 😂

Stopped here after eating for something sweet and was not disappointed! I had the inject your own donut with salted caramel and my friend had the inject your own donut with chocolate and they were both amazing! They give you a generous quantity to fill your donut with your hearts desire. However, if you're like me and don't eat a lot of sweet things it is best to opt for the chocolate filling as the salted caramel can get a bit sickly towards the end. Overall great experience and will be back!

Came to this cute wee cafe on a Tuesday at lunch time for my friends birthday. It was packed so had to sit outside on the picnic tables. There was a overhead heater so was still warm. Lovely lunch. I ordered the Akaroa and a flat white. Both were really yummy.

This little cafe was rather busy when we arrived for a mid day dessert treat! I had the salted caramel doughnut and a mocha - both were mouth wateringly delicious. I would come back to try some of the cabinet food one day. The pies looked pretty appetising. <br/>Service was good too. Would definitely recommend

Absolutely love this place! The staff are lovely for a start and the location is perfectly situated within ponsonby central. I picked up the inject your own donut with the berry collis option, YUM! So much fun as well, and very filling. The dough was cloud like and well powered. I also got a slice of peanut butter and jelly cake to take away, $7 for the biggest piece of cake I've ever seen in my life! It had about 6 layers and was longer than my face, now that's a good deal to me. Definitely try this place out next time you feel like a sweet treat.

We decided to try ponsonby cafes for breakfast today and really glad we did!! The cafe is very well done with old bits and pieces around the shelves. The coffee was excellent and the food was amazing!! Food came out in record time and so did coffee. We will gladly go back again. The mince I rate highly!!
SS
Doughnuts w injectable sauces are seriously some fun stuff! Both the chocolate and salted caramel are absolutely yum! Sometimes the actual doughnut can be better than other days but definitely a yummy and fun dessert. <br/><br/>I had the meringue the other day served w berry coulis and fresh creme and it was average at best.<br/><br/>Coffee was 10/10. Both of us agreed on that. <br/>Highly recommended! ☺️
Xtina Cassidy
Ordered some coffee and a salted caramel syringe donut! <br/>Deadly! but so amazingly yum! <br/>If your looking for a special treat this is the place to go.  Would also love to come here for lunch one day!
Gemma
I've only ever had cabinet food from here and it's been pretty good, but today had lunch for first time off the menu. We ordered the creamy mushrooms on toast which were really good and fresh, and the steak and mushroom pie (massive). Good warming food for the stormy day it was. I find this place is always so crowded though and feels a bit thoroughfare being in the middle of ponsonby central. Good flat white but service often slow. Also the cutlery is like a help yourself from a jar situation and my knife and fork did not match :/

Love going into Ponsonby Central for a feed. This little cafe was quite busy when we got there for lunch. <br/><br/>Ordered "the akaroa" and realised there was a hair on my meal so called the waiter over and they took care of it and made me a fresh new one. This sandwich/bread roll was nice but the bread and the "plate" that they used was quite incompatible. The bread was quite hard and not easy to cut with that little piece of wooden board that it was played on. Such a mission to cut. Everything fell out of the sandwich. Just no. Ended up just using my hands to finish it off. <br/><br/>Pricing is quite expensive for such a little servings. Especially where some of it you could make at home for cheaper.. But I guess it's Ponsonby... So... :/<br/>But I would definitely come back to try their "foiyo donuts" cos they looked pretty fun to eat!<br/><br/>Oh and love how they hand make their marshmallows!
Seamus M.
I really like this little Cafe! I got the self-serving doughnuts and they were delicious, with a beautifully made hot chocolate to wash it down. I really want to come back here to try other stuff out too. I also follow foxtrot on Instagram and everything they post up, shines or mouth watering! Worth the visit too.
Sarah
I've been to Foxtrot Parlour several times, mainly for the famous cinnamon donuts that you inject with chocolate, salted caramel or berry coulis (very fun). But this time we went for brunch. I had the creamy mushrooms which was lovely. As usual the donut was a highlight, as well as the delicious berry and chocolate brioche. Coffee was nice too. Lovely meal
Vanessa
I had heard about this little cafe inside Ponsonby Central that had these donuts you could inject the fillings into and I had to give them a try! The donut ($6.50) definitely didn't disappoint, they only have a few flavours (I tried the Salted Caramel - wasn't too sweet!) but what I love is they are very generous on the amount of fillings you get. Make sure you don't arrive too late because they do sell out fast. The staff were very friendly and the ambience was so chill.
Sheena
We had brunch at Foxtrot Parlour, a cute little cafe known for their donuts you can inject fillings into! It was a busy morning, and we waited a little bit for a table for two people. It was only about a five minute wait, and that was fine because we walked around the little supermarket place in Ponsonby Central! Even though we had to wait, the service here was good and the wait staff were nice and friendly.<br/><br/>When we got seats, we ordered a mocha each, and I got the henhouse raid: famous creamy scrambled eggs with toast and house chutney + free range bacon for $17.50, and my friend got the morroccan lamb pie which came with a side of salad for $8. For dessert we got the foiyo donuts!!! One with the valrhona chocolate filling and the other with the bay leaf infused vanilla custard, at $6 each.<br/><br/>My meal came with one slice of toast, a stick of butter and what looked to be about four eggs worth of scrambled eggs. the toast was thick, but i felt like there just wasn't enough in comparison to the amount of eggs i had! The morroccan lamb pie was good, but we weren't blown away. <br/><br/>The donuts though!!!!!! Mine exploded. I didn't know how to inject the donut, and there wasn't any pre-made hole that gave me any clues on how to proceed. I ended up completely pushing all the custard out of the syringe and it all just exploded. Nevertheless, it was good! The donuts were a bit dry and definitely needed the fillings. The valrhona chocolate would be perfect for any chocolate lover because it is quite rich! <br/><br/>Overall, the donuts are worth the experience! I would be back for donuts again :)<br/>Sarah Reynolds  #challenge

If you are after some decent doughnuts where you can inject the filling yourself, then I would recommend this place to you.  Some places, the filling of your doughnuts can be very minimal or only squirted on one side.  The good thing about the doughnuts at Foxtrot Parlour is the fact that you can inject your selected filling any way you like, and most of all there is more than enough filling to satisfy your sweet tooth.<br/><br/>Please check out my website for an indepth review.

It's a really busy cafe, I had passed by a couple of times but each time on weekends and they seem packed. At last yesterday I decided to give it a try, I like the quirky decor, I managed to get a table as people come and go, it's easy to actually get a seat.<br/><br/>This is what I ordered:<br/>Creamy Field Mushroom with Bacon - the bacon was serve on a side plate which I was hoping to be on the same bowl as the creamy mushroom, I was struggling to cut the bacon on the small plate as it was crispy. I love the way they presented my creamy mushroom on a board. The meal was great, I enjoy it!<br/><br/>Coffee - Flat White - my little cup has a good kick to wake me up! :)<br/><br/>Service was great!<br/>
Duncan Galletly
Saturday afternoon, 3pm and foxtrot is still packed. A cold damp day and in need of sweetness after a savoury and liquid lunch at galbraiths. We ordered two trim caps and a slice of "a triple citrus cake with lemon orange and lime ", and enough mega joules to power a small motor vehicle for a week. Not content with that my partner also orders a coconut ice.<br/><br/>The coffee is nicely textured, good depth of flavour, without bitterness.<br/>The cake - what can one say - a real visual treat, fresh citrus flavours , as sweet as it is humanly possible to make a triple decked iced confection - delicious and rather filling. <br/><br/>In fact so filling the coconut ice was saved for later. <br/><br/>Cabinet food looks ok but the pastry had a dry mummified look - presumably the effect of low temperature on a fatty pastry - it probably transformed with heat.<br/><br/>Also an undercounter glass drawer like a display in a jewellery shop, to be pulled out and from which some delicious looking cakes could be selected.<br/><br/>Go back? Yes<br/>Ambience - at 3pm the place is decorated with people.<br/>Service lovely<br/><br/>Recommended

Lovely bustling brunch place in Ponsonby Central. The donuts are so yummy, also their French Toast. Really like the quirky, worn-out decor. Will definitely come back for more!
Cararmel Queen
Oh my god if you are looking for a good donut experience, THIS IS THE PLACE!! I got the injectable donut with salted caramel filling. The donut was sugar coated and so dense the whole thing was so yum! As soon as I finished I wanted to order another one. Easy to find in ponsonby but not a very warm/big place. Would have been nice if it were a bit more cosy.
Misako Matsumoto
This is my favorite place. Funny place! "Creamy Field Mushroom" ... Very tasty! creamy, being addicted to garlic flavor♡<br/>"Peanut parlor ps jakes"...pretty good! It's just right sweetness.<br/>

This is a great spot for a catch up with a friend. Must try the vanilla doughnuts, they're amazing omg! The service and ambience was also pleasant but their brunch menu wasn't extensive. Nevertheless, still enjoyed the overall experience :)

Fantastic little cafe in the P Central complex, serving a variety of unique and delicious dishes. Definitely one of the highlights here, and goes to show what a great cafe can be like. Food is awesome, my salmon gravlax was very tasty although a bit bready. One dining companion wasn't sure about his mince dish, but the other dishes I saw all looked superb. The marshmallow slice also a contrasting mix of textures... check it out!
Olivia's Table
A friend from Sweden came to visit me. We went there as is one of my favorite places in Ponsoby. Hot coffee and some donuts with berries sauce. He loved it just as I do.

We sat down @ FP thinking we were @ The Bread & Butter Cafe, such is the set up @ Ponsonby Central. There's a bit of an open dining space right inside PC and that's ok. It just adds to the fun vibe of having lunch there.<br/><br/>So, FP it was, Their coffee was nice and strong and I ordered the Pulled Beef, Soft Tortilla and wasn't disappointed. It came out on a cute wooden board accompanied by sour cream and relish and it was delicious. Definitely try this guys. <br/><br/>My brother in law had the Kedgeree and it was nice and tasty, however my dish was the winner of the day. We also bumped into a good friend, one who swears by the Rumbledthumps, she orders this everytime, so guess what I'm trying next time.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS<br/>My sister and I were in the bustling Ponsonby Central precinct and came here by accident! (We thought we were in the neighbouring Bread and Butter Cafe). Nevermind as we were quickly taken by the funky interior and loved the look of the gorgeous donuts on the counter. It was pretty busy at 11am but luckily we found a table inside. <br/><br/>FOOD<br/>The kedgeree was tasty with yummy chunks of smoked fish. To be honest I would've preferred it if the rice was a bit softer but the flavours and poached egg were right on the mark. I loved the cool wooden board it was served on too. <br/><br/>COFFEE<br/>Strong, reliable and quickly served. <br/><br/>SERVICE<br/>The lady at the counter was friendly and the wait staff were efficient in getting our meals out. <br/><br/>OVERALL<br/>A solid, reliable cafe with a tasty (but not overly adventurous) menu.

They make such amazing coffee and their cabinet looks amazing everyday! I can always rely on foxtrot to provide me with the perfect coffee! I am never disappointed when I go to foxtrot

Just came here for brunch and ended up with a salmon sandwich bigger then Mount Everest. Very yummy will be back again great selection :-) my daughter had the mash mellow choc cupcake that ended up in the hair and every where but she enjoyed

Had a fantastic meat pie here, $10 with dressed greens on side I thought was good value. Amazing sweet treats a here. Best two were rhubarb brioche which was an all time highlight, and the choc tart, also great. Seems the best things here involve pastry, must have a great pastry chef. Coffee lovely too. Low key but trendy atmosphere. Gets super busy on weekends, try to go off-peak.
Michelle Tan
i have to agree with everyone else - the injection donuts ($6) are super cute and fun (and make a cool instagram) but the donuts themselves are rather ordinary and theres nothing amazing about them that would make me want to come back for more. the salted caramel sauce i chose was absolutely delicious but it wasnt enough for my donut in my opinion - a shame considering it wouldve made an otherwise plain donut really good.<br/><br/>salted caramel injection donut 8/10

What a nice little cheeky place that my friends found. The donuts were ok but the self injecting concept was a lot of fun. A great place to chill with friends.

This was our 2nd visit and hubby got the marocan lamb pie again he liked it so much frist time round, last time the lamb just melted in your mouth. L I got bacon n eggs with gluten free toast which was yummy. Love the atmosphere here is great the staff were very helpful and friendly. The selection of sweets is very tempting with some nice unique options with plenty of savory cabinet food as well if your needing something quicker. We will be back for sure if only I lived closer.
Mady Johnson
My friend and I went here today to try the donuts. I chose the chocolate flavor and my friend chose the salted caramel. I didn't really like my chocolate sauce, as i thought it would have a more richer flavor to it. But my friends sauce was so good! If i go back I'd defiantly get the caramel sauce.
Simone Cooper
Stuffed kumara gets me every time. Great cabinet food if you can't be bothered waiting.

Atmosphere is good, came in rush hour lunch and took a while to get our order out but it was worth the wait
Wolfie W
We had breakfast here on Saturday, arriving just after they opened. The welcome was warm, and throughout our very long and leisurely meal we chatted with several wait staff, all were very friendly and engaging. The ambience was pleasantly quirky with plenty of nice little touches like small bunches of flowers in old silver teapots, jugs etc, and rustic old bone handled cutlery. I for one love this ecclectic mix, and enjoyed the atmosphere. <br/><br/>Food: The coffee was perfect. Absolutely the right temperature and nicely rounded with no bitterness. I ordered the Coddled Eggs, and they were delicious, tasty and beautifully cooked, with a good serve of bacon. The combination of wilted spinach with a good grind of nutmeg is a winner, always. I loved them and would order them again in a moment. The robust toast "soldiers" which accompanied the eggs came with a twist of real butter in greaseproof paper - another nice touch. <br/><br/>Husband had the Moorish Omlette, which featured chorizo, semi dried tomatoes, basil and feta. He loved it and wouldn't share.<br/><br/>We came back after doing the rounds of the fresh market, and just timed it right to grab a table as some folk were leaving (it was a busy time of day!) and had another flat white with their famous donuts. These were huge, and very nice - we tried the Berry and the Salted Caramel, my favourite was the caramel, and this time it was me who wasn't sharing. Again we experienced great service, and staggered off pleasantly full, very happy and appreciative of the walk home in the sunshine after an extremely fulfilling morning. Nice job!
Alessandra Felix
The service was really good but the food is terrible, I had the worst scrambled eggs ever and the coffee is also not good. My partner had the famous creamy egg and the egg whites was completely raw it was just poached egg with milk a bit of cheese and bacon on top. I will never come back.
Tina Wu
Been wanting to come here to try out their donuts that I've seen everywhere on Instagram, to be honest $6 for a donut isn't cheap and the taste wasn't nice either. It was very dense and dry. Also not to mention that some of the cakes and muffins on the counter wasn't covered and I witness a fly flying around the landing on some of the food (yuck!) They should also consider changing their cutlery, it was old and looked like it wasn't washed properly. For a cafe situated in Ponsonby, I would think that it is up to a standard but frankly it wasn't. Pretty disappointed really.
David Boshier
I really like this place because of the atmosphere and location. <br/><br/>So I have been back a number of times. Each time I am disappointed with the food. I have tried two pies as they look great in the cabinet and inviting. The first time, one was cold-ish in the middle and lack taste. On another visit I again ordered a pie and this time it was burn't and the filling bland.<br/><br/>The service is also rather slow.<br/><br/>I might give it another in time.
James Simpson
I agree with previous review. This place is sub standard. Cabinet food looks nice but we ordered off the menu.<br/>The haloumi was sliced wafer thin and overlooked. Very very small portion for the price!<br/>The kedgeree was a joke . About 100ml for $17 dollars.<br/>They can't seriously expect people to come back for the food! <br/>I don't believe there was a chef in this kitchen. <br/>Nice atmosphere though.
Rob Weston
Wow, very very disappointed with this place. Miserable Sunday morning, in dire need of good coffee and great food - alas, none was found. Guys, if you cant even cook bacon that its burnt to a cinder, then leave it off the menu...my basic Eggs/ Bacon/ tomato were probably the worst I have come across for the money paid. Stay away from the very small plates and give me value for money, at $33.00 for two coffees and a very small portion of food, I am bitter. I asked for the bacon to be cooked again - whats worst is that it came out on a plate, sooo frig-gen small I could not eat it and then again the bacon was burnt. Get it together guys, its just not that difficult to get the basics right and stay clear of trying to be too fancy.

A visitor to Auckland, and I went looking for this cafe - cant remember how I heard of it. But I am very glad I found it!<br/><br/>It is set within a larger development of very funky shops - sort of open plan. Very well decked out and a pleasure to sit in.<br/><br/>Food ticked all the boxes, and was refreshingly different, whilst catering for ones usual wants!! Lovely menu and cabinet food.<br/><br/>Staff really engaged with us and were helpful and friendly. Great work.<br/><br/>Can't recommend this place enough. We'll be back when next in Auckland.
Georgie @ Georgieats
Foxtrot Parlour is always buzzing with people when I visit Ponsonby Central on the weekends and I can see why.<br/><br/>Once you see their food cabinets and the sweet treats displayed on the counter, you will want to order one of everything!<br/><br/>My favourite home baked goods include the marshmallow filled chocolate spiral shaped cones (pictures attached) and their large meringues. Top these off with a Tahitian Vanilla Milkshake and you've got the perfect morning or afternoon treat!<br/><br/>However, I recommend getting there as early as possible because of the crowds and don't bother ordering coffee. Ours came out lukewarm and didn't have a very strong coffee flavour. So opt for one of their delicious milkshakes instead!
Jessica Chen
A bit slow on the uptake on the hype of self-injectable donuts, but got there we did, one windy Saturday arvo. <br/>Along with the rest of the Ponsonby Central, there's an unmistakable feeling of cosyness and excited exploration here. <br/><br/>The donuts were good, a bit messy but that's all part of the experience. I had the cream filling while my friend played mad scientist with her salted caramel syrup. While enjoyable, I wouldn't say I'd have it again. Mind you, with their gorgeous service and array of other delectable baked goods, I have to admit I'm tempted to come back and see what else Foxtrot has to offer. Nothing but good things, I'm sure.

Have a sweet tooth that needs satisfying? This is the place for you. In the midst of buzzing Ponsonby Central, Foxtrot Parlour Cafe is a must-visit in my opinion. <br/><br/>A friend of mine had heard of this place 'through the grapevine' and on a friday afternoon we decided to make our way across town to check it out. <br/><br/>On the look out for a quick afternoon treat, our eyes were instantly attracted to the cinnamon sugar dusted doughnuts ($5). Displayed on the front counter, they were too hard to resist. But these aren't just any doughnuts...you actually inject your own doughnut with a filling of your choice. <br/><br/>I decided to go with chocolate sauce and my friend, well he went with custard. Is it just me who isn't a big fan of custard? That aside, he said really enjoyed it. Not only is it novel that you are allowed to play with your food, but it is actually a really sweet idea (excuse the pun) because you can choose the amount of filling you prefer. <br/><br/>To wash down our doughnuts, we both had a chocolate milk shake, which came in an old school tall glass. Service was good despite it being relatively busy and the atmosphere lived up to Ponsonby Central's vibe.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
In my humble opinion, the best way to spend any weekend involves good food. So while the weather is still shining in Auckland we made the most of our work free day with brunch at Foxtrot Parlour in Ponsonby Central. Despite starting early on a Saturday morning, Ponsonby Central was already busy with patrons visiting the fresh produce market and various eateries. We managed to get a seat inside Foxtrot Parlour and ordered items from their breakfast menu to start our day.<br/><br/>Being a huge fan of smoked fish, I opted for the Kedgeree which is a dish made up of flaked smoked fish, Indian spiced rice and topped with a poached egg. I can’t say that I was impressed with this dish. There were hardly any smoked fish in the rice and the spices had completely overpowered the little smokiness that was there. The poached egg which was listed on the menu as ‘soft’ was cooked all the way through, making the overall meal, very dry. I tried my best to finish it, but it could not be done.<br/><br/>After the meal, we left and I came back about two hours later for a doughnut. The doughnut was a huge improvement to my disappointing brunch. A cinnamon sugar dusted doughnut was served with a small side of whipped cream and a metal syringe with the filling of your choice. I couldn’t resist and ordered salted caramel while I could have gone with a healthier berry coulis. I happily injected the syringe into my chubby doughnut and filled the inside with a runny and rich caramel syrup. The combination was amazing. I like the idea of the syringe because it’s not only fun, but you get to control the amount of syrup to add. They are rather generous with the amount of filling and I had plenty leftover despite covering my doughnut with salted caramel.<br/><br/>Although the kedgeree was disappointing, the doughnut made up for it. The cafe was busy during my two separate visits but the staff were very friendly and food and coffee came quickly. Although I may not come back to have brunch again, I would gladly visit again and again for their spectacular doughnuts.<br/><br/>Like this review? 'Foxtrot Parlour Cafe' has a rustic, vintage feel with old-school tables and chairs, grannie-style plates and wholesome, hand-baked fare.<br/><br/>Sometimes there is too much to choose from (frankly) with date scones competing with Russian fudge. <br/><br/>I have acquainted this cafe from the beginning, nearly 2.5 years ago I think? Normally, I have the gourmet quiche with a green salad or so something sweet. Food is consistently good. The coffee is average, not sure of the beans they use.<br/><br/>Seating is generous inside, that expands outside into the 'Ceres Market'. Lots to look at! Great for meetings and they are usually open late, until 5pm in my experience!

I love donuts (who doesn't). But I also love food presented in a novel way, so the donuts from Foxtrot Palour in Ponsonby Central were something I had to try.<br/><br/>Basically you get to choose which filling you want from salted caramel, chocolate or jam and they serve it to you in a syringe so you get to 'fill your own donut'. Not only is it fun (yes as a kid I did play with my food!) but it means you get to control how much or little filling is in the donut, I squeezed every last drop into mine!<br/><br/>I had the salted caramel filling and it, plus the donut was delicious, so if you are a fellow donut lover, I recommend you head down there and give these a try!<br/><br/>FYI, Foxtrot Parlour do more than donuts.

Enjoy a busy brunch? This is the place to be. We were a big fan of their poached eggs, but if you're not looking for anything too flash - simple and chilled, then you'll like this place. Especially when it's located within Ponsonby Central as well. It's not the cheapest place, but it is in Ponsonby - we thought the value was pretty good too.<br/><br/>Check out the full review here: http://ultimateomnoms.com/foxtrot-parlour/
