Went on a quiet Thursday evening. Order bunch of food sorry forgot to take breads photos which was delicious I had pesto bread and parmesan for my partner. The pasta had too much cream could have been just coating enough. Also the chicken dish had too much cream they could add less cream to the sauces the star of the dish hides with the intensity of the sauce. Too strong flavours overall good atmosphere and service but food wise sometimes “ less is more” 😊

Had a lovely family meal here a few weeks ago. Was a quiet Monday night (we were wearing quite early with our 4yo) but soon got pretty busy. Great that it’s byo - not many of those options these days! Service was fab, meals were generous and delicious. Will be back for sure.

Perfection! I highly recommend booking a table ahead of time as it’s a popular place! We started with the calamari appetizer. It is absolute deliciousness! Not a bit of rubberiness which is hard to achieve with calamari. My husband ordered the ravioli and it was perfect. The pasta was cooked perfectly, not too al dente and not too soft. The sauce was fresh tasting and perfectly seasoned. I ordered the filet which was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. 10/10 recommend!!! My new favorite place in Birkenhead. See you soon!!!

We enjoyed our meal at Abruzzo. Steak was cooked perfectly, as was the chicken. Happy with the sides too and I recommend the garlic bread. Service was friendly but agree with another reviewer that you should not sit by the menu/cutlery cabinet as it gets busy. We'll definitely be back.

Went into this restaurant by accident with friends on Saturday night as we were going to go to the one next door. So hungry didn’t even check the sign properly! Didn’t realise this until we tried to order something that wasn’t quite on their menu. So awkward! The waitress handled the situation beautifully and recommended a few vegetarian dishes to accommodate our needs. She had a great sense of humour and her service was impeccable. We ordered all the vegetarian pizzas, a vegetarian pasta as well as chips & roast potatoes plus some wine. All were outstanding and I was just so glad that I got to try this restaurant that I didn’t know of. Now I do and will be back! Thank you for making our birthday dinner so special.

Lovely intimate space, eye catching decor. The friendly staff invited us in as we walked by, definitely don't regret it! We shared a pizza and pasta - they we're perfect. Tiramisu was divine! Would definitely go again.

Paid $22 for this margarita pizza, meant to be 12 inch pizza! Say no more and $24 for a lasagne in tomato soup and burnt cheese! Highly Disappointing.

All sauces and pastes are from tins. None of the food had any authentic flavour. My pizza was the worst pizza I’ve ever had- period. Thick tasteless tomato paste cheese was absolutely not mozzarella. Just terrible. Entree mussels had a strange tasteless tomato sauce straight from a pre bought supplier. Most frustrating part is if you run an Italian restaurant and you cannot even make a tomato sauce from scratch, what are you even doing in business. I certainly don’t go out to dinner to be served processed preservatives. We never ever buy pre made sauces or food due to the preservative so to go out to an ‘authentic Italian restaurant and everything is full of preservatives is just appalling. Worst food ever and in this day and age where their are hundred if not thousands of cooking programs on tv showing how to make the most basic simple food from scratch and this place can’t even do that.. just shouldn’t be in business and I’m pretty sure soon they won’t be. Redeeming part if the evening is the waitress apologised and explain the food did come from tins and offered to make another meal. I was not charged for the pizza .

Love dining at Abruzzo. The food, staff and ambience are always on point. It feels like your nestled in a little part of Italy. Definitely my go-to restaurant when I’m in need of some delicious Italian food.

We eat here about once or twice a month. Our typical order is pesto pizza, fettucine carbonara, and lasagne. Boy oh boy, this lasagne...the tomato sauce is so fresh, light, yet flavourful, they've got the melty-cheesy-crunchy texture combo sorted, and the portion size is great value for the price and quality of the meal. The service is always fantastic - lively, warm, and good-humoured. 5/5 would recommend to anyone / everyone.

Taste was just exceptional! Sooooo TASTY. Customer service, the food and the restaurant’s layout is 5/5. Prices were expected as the food is just that good, i would say its fine dining but the prices are a half of what fine dining would look like😍 would definitely return when i have the budget lol

Ordered the lasagne via Uber eats, it was a liquid soup, very odd and very average. It lacked meat and there was limited pasta. Olive and garlic bread was fine.

Great staff very friendly, lovely atmosphere and gorgeous decor, great location but unfortunately some of the dishes are not up to standard, steak meals are not worth the $37.5 dollar mark, small eye fillet and its not really fair you get the ends of the eye fillet either.<br/>The veal was like leather and the vegetables were raw. It wasn't a busy night. The garlic bread is fantastic though and the pizzas and pasta does look great, cant comment on those, as i haven't had one. Been a few times now hoping for a good meal but consistency is not there.

Great place. Very cosy. More authentic Italian than a lot of places in Italy !! A nice change from all the Asian restaurants in Birkenhead. I always judge Italian restaurants by their Bolognese - I figure if they cant even do that properly then there's no hope.<br/>Abruzzo bolognese is spot on !! That and a procsecco...what more could you ask for !

Disappointing to say the very least. Under cooked zero flavour. In general a chain store pizza has better quality. The base was so chewy and doughy that it made the pizza inedible.

It was our first visit to Abruzzo in Birkenhead. During a weekend dinner time, the restaurant was almost 90% full. When we walked into the restaurant, there was a wood fired oven right in the restaurant.<br/><br/>We ordered seafood spaghetti, mushroom pizza, 2 kid size pizzas (Hawaiian and salami pizzas). Kid's meal was including of a pizza or pasta and an ice cream or a drink and it was $12 per set.<br/>The fungi pizza was simple and delicious.<br/>The seafood spaghetti was so yummy! With squid rings, prawns, mussels and scallops, cheese on the wine based sauce, the combinations were excellent!<br/><br/>The prices of the food were reasonable.<br/>Overall experience was good.

Went here after a friend recommended it. Was a smaller area but very sweet. Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and willing to answer any questions. Especially our waiter! Decor was very elegant. Only downside would have been that it took a while for us to be seated despite having made a booking several days prior. Over all a good night!

A Libra Perspective
I love Abruzzo and have been here many times.<br/><br/>I've always had the Petto di Pollo Ripieno (it's a stuffed chicken breast) which is divine. I've also tried both versions of their gnocchi and it's heaven on earth. Their ravioli special is also lovely and portion sizes are amazing. The meats come with plenty of veges and I've seen people struggle to clear their plates. I would love to try their Pizzas as they always looks spectacular and so do their desserts.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is lovely, but I struggle with their smallish tables, versus their large table settings. There is plenty of seating though.<br/><br/>Room for improvement: there is always room for improvement however I can't think of anything yet. Perhaps adjusting the lighting for older people and think about more table space.<br/><br/>Abruzzo is still new, and I hope it's here for a long time. It offers serious competition for Blitza next door, and their staff is always so kind.

I love this place. The mussels in creamy sauce is my favourite. Very fair price and great service. I especially love the wood fired pizzas also. Very authentic flavours and always keeps the restaurant nice and warm.

Date-night here tonight, the restaurant is easily located and has very welcoming and accommodating staff, we were ushered in and allowed to sit at a 4-seat table instead of a two as it was in the quieter end, which we were grateful for!<br/><br/>For starters we shared a garlic bread hot from the oven which was delicious. We also ordered from their great selection of wines some Italian red.<br/><br/>For mains I had a spicy chicken dish while my partner had the fish. The mains came quicker than we expected, which was a nice surprise, and all the ingredients were fresh, high quality and very good portions for money (we were both full). A real treat on a cold night.<br/><br/>The staff are all friendly and love having a laugh, and was a great night, not surprising to see why this place packs out (best to come early if you have no reservation!).<br/><br/>Only regret was that we didn't try the pizza!! But there is always next time, plus they do takeaways!

Loved it! The steaks, Galliano chicken and pizza breads are amazing. Good selection of wines and local beers. Portions and generous and everything is reasonably priced. Staff were attentive and well verse in the menu. I highly recommend Abruzzo to anyone who enjoys real authentic Italian cooking.

My husband and I came last night and we were really impressed with how quick the service was and how lovely the food is.<br/>The restaurant was believably busy but the food came out very quick. My husband had mussels which he loved and I had calamari. The meals were a good size. The staff were helpful and quick to approach if you needed anything. The cost was reasonable and we will definitely be going there again :)

The rib eye was great, the nero pasta average. The place looks lovely and staff are welcoming. We would have liked to have heard that the corkage charge was $8 for 2 persons, but as they normally don't do BYO, to be forgiven. We had a hiccup with the bill, but the manager took time to call us back about that.

Good food resonable prices beautifully decorated. Parking in street outside it wasnt hard to find a close park. One of the wait staff was obviously brand new but it wasnt an issue. The other wait staff were slighty too attentive but this is obviously better than lack of attention.

Nice ambience, great Italian food good and obliging service. Had a very pleasant relaxed eating experience. Good on Birkenhead. It's providing a wide range of great eats at good prices and this is another success. It took a good red rather than a Kiwi white to bring out the best in the wine and the food.

This is a newly opened restaurant which I have not yet tried. but here is a little information.<br/>It is fully licensed and does not do BYO, which is a shame as I think most small suburban restaurants do not do enough business to make a decent wine selection economically viable.<br/>They offer a good selection of wood fired pizzas and other Italian menu selections at medium pricing.<br/>I only gave it 4 stars because this form insisted I rate it!<br/>I plan to visit them soon.

From the specials menu, I chose fish filled ravioli. Tasty dish but the flavour of the ravioli filling was overwhelmed by the quantity of the sauce. How could I go Italian without ordering Tiramisu for dessert??? Unfortunately I think it had been sitting in the fridge uncovered as it had that fridge taste to what should have been a fantastic dessert. Nice atmosphere, extremely busy while we there but felt the staff were a little bit overwhelmed. I would go again but am more likely to order a wood fired pizza than other menu items.
