Review Kk Malaysia Cuisine - Auckland Central

Delicious, big dishes of authentic Malaysian flavours! Get the cereal eggplants šŸ˜‹ and the famous Hainanese chicken rice. Quite a small restaurant with not too many tables, so best to book!

It's a lovely Malaysian shop, pet-friendly as it has an partlycovered outdoor portion. Very genuine, with a rather mixed clientele. I noticed several regulars are having fish head rice noodles, the portion is so substantial, it can feed at least two. I ordered Mummy Chicken, it's an unusual item, one which I have not seen on other M'sian store. Basically sugar-fried, sprinkled with white sesame, thus a striking black-and-white contrast. The caramelized chicken tastes slightly sweet with sesame aroma, is that Mummy's cooking? I am enchanted, albeit not my memory of home cooking. A lovely experience for me.

Had seafood laksa ($21?) and a large char kuay teow ($26.50?) and a tea. All yummy as as a Singaporean and really good portion, but I must say mama kopitiam is still my favourite laksa. Ambience is a bit dull and old but clean enough. Kudos to the non Asian waiter as it looked like he was also cooking these excellent meals!

The food was good and the quantity was reasonable. The only issue was the place. The place is a tight fit between tables. If you are doing a takeaway, the place is not an issue and recommended. The spice level is less. Spicy food was just fine compared to an Indian medium spicy

I came in with my family last night with low expectations, left with full bellies and lots of leftovers. Arrived to see a run-down looking restaurant in a separate room from the kitchen area, which seemed a bit odd. Soft drinks came out in cans when most places would pour it into a glass with ice, but this is a non-issue. Spring rolls were piping hot and delicious. Mains were massive portions with nice strong flavours but they all came out at very different times, so we had to wait. Decorations were nice, but unfortunately, they couldn't distract from the cheap feel of the place, especially when prices were anything but. Staff here are amazing however, very welcoming and made me enjoy being here. Overall, this place probably just needs a good redesign to make it feel less dark and claustrophobic. Will probably return for more spring rolls!

Good food. We ordered quite a few dishes for pickup/takeaway for a family gathering and everything was cooked on time. The food was good and they had decet portions. The standouts were their nasi lemak rice - very flavourful, they nailed it and KK Special fried chicken and pork ribs - delicious, would make for good drinking food. The only dish that didn't quite live up to the others was the beef rendang, it still tasted alright but lacked the usual richness and they don't use beef cubes so was a little wierd for me. Personally, I'd take it off the menu and keep working in it in the background. The spice levels were surprisingly low but it'll be to cater for local palettes. You can buy chopped chillies and their sambal which was very good.

Still a great Malaysian restaurant in my opinion. The food is authentic (albeit usually lacking a tad bit of spiciness) and the portions are usually quite generous. Am a fan of their soup noodle dishes (Seafood Laksa comes to mind).

Celebrated a birthday treat here with brunch. Have been here before and their menu cuisine has a great selection as our table quickly became a feast. Can't pinpoint a favourite dish, its all yummy! It pays to buy a section when you're in a group so its easy to try the different selections and you can takeaway after which is great for after snacks when you get home.

Amazing food! Classic Malaysian food in Auckland, canā€™t recommend enough. Every time we come to Auckland, we come here. The owner is amazing and consistently shows how much he cares about the restaurant. Staff are all friendly and definitely cheap enough. Would recommend!!

busy all night, fun out of table from 6pm on friday. so we didn't wait a table on first coming. then we came earlier on the second day. Food r absolutely worth the price, huge portion, authentic taste, friendly staff. steamed chicken is tender and juicy, mee goreng is the classic malay fried noodle, so good.

The food here is the best. I advise the mummy pork ribs and the tom yum fish head noodles. Most importantly, the food is super duper yummy. There aren't many tables. You can pretty much walk in and get a table during non-peak hours. Otherwise amazing.

One of best Malaysian cuisine everything is so delicious but the only problem is we always need to wait for a little bit time to get the dish especially at dinner time, I recommend that donā€™t go to this restaurant if you can wait. I like this restaurant so much even after 15 years. VH

Came here today. The fish soup vermicelli was nice and creamy, not too fatty as well. Quite a nice warm soothing meal. Nasi lemak, which is my favourite Malaysian dish, it is a famous dish here as well. The presentation was nice as always with the bluish coconut rice. But today I feel the rice is not as good. The rice was cold and not enough coconut flavour. The rendang was very good, and everything else was not bad. They are missing the crunchy anchovies which is a key piece of ingredient of this dish. Overall is still very yummy. Wish they gave us complementary hot chinese tea though.

The customer service is quite good good and the staffs are welcoming. Fair prices and nice food

Consistently taste good. We ordered curry laksa fish noodles, Wan tan hor, beef rendang Nasi lemak, fried mee hon.

I had ordered mummy chicken rice, and the chicken did not taste anything like chicken. It had a very pungent fish smell and taste I felt like I was eating sea food and not chicken I was really disappointed, couldnā€™t have more than one bite. Also my friends ordered butter chicken and roti. The roti was drenched in oil. I squeezed it and all that came out was OIL. Over all I was very disappointed with the order and what I was served.

I have been to a few of Aucklands little Malaysian food places and to date this is probably the best in terms of authentic and delicious. I seldom use that word - 'delicious' in a review but this was good quality Malaysian cuisine. <br/><br/>What I liked: <br/><br/>1. We only ordered 3 dishes - the beef rendang, the sambal kang kong and the chicken curry. <br/><br/>2. All three dishes were excellent. Rendang could have been in chunkier pieces rather than slices but each dish offered up excellent flavour, good portion size and if we were any hungrier that day we would have asked for another few bowls of rice to just absorb all the saucy goodness in each dish. Instead, we packed back all the leftovers and faithfully had them the next day -- it was that yummy. <br/><br/>3. As the other reviews point out - you don't come here for the ambience - its the great food. It would have been great if the owners dished out desserts like ice caching, pulot hitam and chendol as I would have loved to see and taste the quality which I am sure would have been noteworthy. <br/><br/>All said, am definitely coming back for more and a chance to try the other dishes.<br/><br/>

Ordered takeaway this time. Very yummy.<br/><br/>Will visit in store and try more dishes if have chance.

Great food with amazing service. The Malaysian roti and curry was out of this world.

It is true when they say sometimes the best doesn't need to come from a fancy restaurant. You can beat standard and quality of food with anything else. KK Malaysian Cuisine is one of the pioneers of Malaysian restaurants in New Zealand and what I love about them is not only their quality of food but also the consistency. You can expect the same standard even after 10 years. Butter Prawns were to die for with that buttery yolk coating. Beef Rendang is the best I've had with the melt in your mouth beef. Mee Goreng is no doubt the most authentic I've ever tasted out of all the Malaysian restaurants I've been. If you are after a faultless Malaysian dining experience all round including service and food, these guys know what they're doing.

4/5 Taste<br/>4/5 Display <br/>3.5/5 Quantity <br/>4.5/5 Customer Service<br/><br/>Amazing Malaysian Restaurant in Epsom!<br/><br/>Their cereal prawns are the best in Auckland apparently, so I had to try. Though the portion was small for the price it was quite decent, full of flavour and wonderful texture.<br/>

We visited at odd hour (3pm ish) and so glad the kitchen was still opened. Ordered KK Chicken which was absolutely fresh, juicy and crunchy. Highly recommended. The Beef Rendang was a let down. Very bland and the beef was thinly sliced. Will we were aware that this was a pre-cooked dish, it should have came out heated well but unfortunately not. Was a bit watery and not ā€˜lemakā€™ (thick & delicious). Disappointed. Still giving this visit a 4 rating for the fresh bowl of rice (heaped) and yummy KK Chicken.
Dinigianti Eliezer
they didnā€™t allow us to get the zomato discount because we only ordered the regular size while in zomato it doesnā€™t mention anything. also, the service was really bad starting from a really unfriendly staff and they didnā€™t speak english well so hard to communicate.
Nacha Lakshman
We have ordered a large chicken Nasi Goreng today takeaway, but there was no enough portion. We searched the chicken pieces through a zooming glass. NO salt, NO pepper. They charged $22 for just for mixed frozen vegs and for very little chicken pieces and a small bowl of rice. Think twice, guys. Not worth it.

If you're looking for a solid Malaysian spot you cannot go wrong with KK's. Their beef rendang here is amazing as well as their sambal chicken and KK special chicken.

Food was good but they did not allow us to use zomato gold

Have been coming here for years, the family loves this place! Very authentic Malaysian food!

Amazing selection, authentic and large portions. I came here on Valentine's day with friends and although it was super busy and it was abit of a wait the staff handled it well, they were attentive and made sure we got our food.<br/>I got the laksa and it was delicious, I highly recommend if you're in the area and feel like some true malaysian cusine!
Mr Practical
Visited this place many times, both the food and customer service was real great, the prices set for the menus are reasonable too, will definitely eat at this place again for many more times and also recommend to others.

One of my favourite restaurants with great customer service! I really enjoy coming back to KK as the foods are delicious and reasonably priced. My favourite meals are the steamed chicken (with chicken rice! Perfect!), sambal chicken, char kway teow (fried egg noodle), mee goreng (fried noodle - ask for the spicier version), sambal fish, homemade tofu, and teh tarik! The sweetness level can be slightly adjusted for their teh tarik but regardless it is pleasant, authentic, and well-portioned. It can get very busy hence long waiting time but it is not a big problem. Always look forward to come back here!

Great food always!

Came to KK with my family and was honestly quite disappointed. The food came out at different pace so we didnā€™t eat together as the food would have gotten cold. We also didnā€™t order fried tofu and they put it on our table. We ordered the fish noodle soup, Hainanese chicken rice, sambal chicken rice and an extra bowl of chicken rice. <br/><br/>I had the Hainanese chicken rice and I quite like it. Chicken however was a bit dry for my liking but the onion gravy on the bottom helped moisten it a little. The chicken was all meat and no bones so that was great! Rice was flavourful and was my favourite part of the dish. My parents shared the fish noodle soup and they said theyā€™ve had better fish noodle soup elsewhere. My brother had the extra bowl of chicken rice and sambal chicken rice. He had to ask the waitress about his extra bowl of chicken rice as it didnā€™t come. When it did come, it was the Hainanese chicken rice dish so not the dish he wanted, which was why it took awhile for the rice to come out.<br/><br/>Wouldnā€™t be back to be fair as there are better Malaysian places in Auckland.
Alisha
Bad customer service. Waited for a table and when seated, no one bother to come and ask what you want to order.<br/>Same for takeaway order. Call put on hold for more than 10mins. Very disappointed as this place used to be one of my favourite Malaysian restaurant but unfortunately this business got too busy and their service eventually turned bad
AC
Really Disappointing, Iā€™m a regular customer for this Malaysian Restaurant, but there isnā€™t anymore 1 for 1? Food is really pricey here (ie $24 for a dish),if there is no 1+1, it wouldnā€™t be worth.... Iā€™m wondering why did you change this offer?
Giraffe
My partner and I had chicken satay, Ling collar fish noodles and Mee Goreng. The portion was very big, itā€™s good for sharing! Was wondering why the receipt shows medium size upgraded to large when there is no medium size available on the menu.
Esther Michiko
rendang chicken taste is good..weekend too many people..staff friendly

Used Zomato gold on any of the main dishes. The food was really good. It gets crowded as the place is tiny however service is pretty quick.
Ilona Halim K.
I got beef rendang, while my partner got bakuteh. The portions were huge, but both dishes tasted pretty average.

I went for dinner with my 23 month old child at about 5.30pm on Monday. The restaurant was not busy and staff were getting things prepared for dinner service. Food - quick to be brought to the table, good taste with the beef rendang, but the fish head soup was probably average in my opinion - bland and little flesh off the deep fried bone. Good amount of vegetables in the soup though.<br/><br/>Beef rendang - taste was good and meat cut was good too.<br/><br/>Vegetables - didn't touch it. Was too much food for us.<br/><br/>Service - was generally good with friendly staff. But two issues: 1. I ordered 3 dishes in total. 2 from the dinner menu and 1 from the lunch menu(offered by the waitress). But they said I could not use zomato if I ordered 1/3 dishes from the lunch menu. I don't know how that is fair, as I clearly ordered three dishes with two being from the dinner menu, how does that prevent zomato being used? I didn't want to debate this as I had a small child needing attention. So just agreed to have all three dishes from the dinner menu.<br/><br/>2. The staff taking my payment tried to charge me for three full size dishes, ignoring the zomato discount, even though I had already given the zomato code at the start when they took the order. She was not friendly at all, especially compared with the rest of the team.

Chicken rendang & spring rolls were delicious. The nasi goreng was flavourless until I added soy sauce & chillies. Food came out quickly & it was good value for money using zomato gold. Would definitely try again & get some other Malaysian dishes

This was my second visit after a few years and it more than satisfied all my cravings for Malaysian food. The steamed chicken and sambal kangkong tasted amazing and just how it should. Itā€™s hard to find places that make food that taste just like home. The real homerun for me was the chilli - spicy, bit of tang, maybe some ginger/garlic which gives the chicken that eureka on your tastebuds. The male server was the best, he was attentive and gave us lots of extra chilli when we asked. The only downside was that they sold out of chicken rice :( <br/>Sambal kang Kong was awesome, spicy, crunchy, full of that sambal flavour and packs a lot of garlic. <br/>The teh Tarik (pulled milk tea) was delicious too. If youā€™re a fan of milk tea, you have to try it. <br/>The portions are massive and we had a lot leftover between the two of us. I highly recommend going with a larger group as the dishes are more for sharing and you can try more dishes too.<br/>Thank you for a great dining experience!

Only good thing is portion is quite big and service is fasst. The taste is quite average and staff are not really friendly. The waitress who took order at our table looks absolutey grumpy.

Authentic malay cuisine. Quite extensive menu either choose from the special lunch menu (best for non sharers) or from the a la carte menu. All are very tasty and reasonably priced, with great service from the waiter.

Zomato gold is a lie. You pay the exact same for the same menu as they donā€™t provide rice in their main dishes. They have separate menus for zomato gold and their normal menu

My family was always a fanatic customer of KK for a long time and since then Faheem was always there to accommodate and pleased all the customers. KK never failed to satisfy us every now and then, not only the super yummy taste of food but the feelings of being taking care of. KK has a gem of having Faheem to run the business. Kuddos to all the staff, yes the chefs and of most especially how Fahim accommodating the clients of KK Malaysian!
Jenny Wang
Incredible service from Faheem today- our kk chicken was not as crispy or as flavoursome as usual and Faheem went above and beyond his duties to get us a replacement dish as we were leaving. He definitely did not have to go out of his way but the fact that he did made the overall experience that much better and we will definitely be coming back to dine again soon!

Searched this place out whilst in Auckland and fancied some Malaysian food. Sooo glad we did. The pictures donā€™t do it justice, honest. Fantastic place. Excellent food. The experience was so good I went back two nights later and it was fantastic again. I have spent a decent amount of time in Malaysia and this was just like being there. The aroma as soon as you open the door says a lot. Friendly service, quick and straight out delicious. Thanks to the team at KK Malay I visit every time I am in Auckland. Wonderful experience, please check it out. Cheers.

Went for lunch around 2pm on a Friday. The restaurant was busy with most tables filled up. Thankfully we had booked in advance so had a table set up for us when we arrived. <br/><br/>The service was very polite and gave us helpful suggestions about what to order, as well as what dishes could be made vegetarian. Food came out nice and quickly which was also impressive considering it was busy. <br/><br/>We ordered the sambal chicken, kk chicken and mee goreng vege. The portion sizes are very large and can easily be shared, we ended up taking away most of the meal. Sambal chicken was very different to usual sambal as it did have quite a fishy taste (maybe dried shrimp or oyster sauce) so wasnā€™t our favourite, but that was just due to our tastes. <br/><br/>Would definitely recommend coming here to try some meals, the menu is extensive so can easily please everyone.
Foodhunta
Maybe the dish we ordered were not good picks. The hor fun were very average. The more unique mummy chicken dish were ok but nothing out of extraordinary. The fish head noodle were ok, had eaten better ones. May come back to try other food with zomato gold offer. Didnt get any discount that time as we ate on 31st. Definitely not worth paying full price as they are already more pricy than other malaysian cuisine.

I probably think that best Malaysian food in Auckland.<br/>I tried beef rendang and it was so delicious.<br/><br/>However, I had to wait long time to order our foods.<br/>We couldnot find staff.

KK is a long established Malaysian restaurant, located in the heart of Epsom. <br/><br/>Itā€™s been over 10 years since I last visited, and thanks to Zomato Gold, I decided to revisit here for lunch. P.S. Recommend booking in advance, the restaurant seems always busy!<br/><br/>The Char Ku-ey Te-ow was very delicious. The flat noodles were chewy with flavors well absorbed into the noodles, also the stir fry not overly greasy.<br/><br/>The Beef Rendang was also great. The curry paste was excellent in taste leaving a coconut scent and the beef was very tender.<br/><br/>The Bak Kut Teh was great in taste but average in the ingredients. They used pork belly, spare ribs and filled the remaining broth with mushrooms and tofu puffs. The pork belly could have been softer and the spare ribs were too boney. The broth was rich with a herbal taste, you can get a good mouthful of the broth from the tofu puffs. <br/><br/>This is a street styled restaurant, so donā€™t have high expectations on their cleanliness. Also eating-in can get a bit loud and chaotic.Ā <br/><br/>Good service. Food were on the table within 20 minutes on a busy weekend. (actually when arenā€™t they busy?)<br/><br/>They offer huge portions, so 1 dish per person would be quite enough.<br/><br/>Taste: 7.5/10<br/><br/>Presentation: 6/10<br/><br/>Service: 8.5/10<br/><br/>Ambience: 3.5/10<br/><br/>Value for money: 7/10<br/><br/>Price $25 per person

Gainers chicken rice was good, love the spicy sauce that came with it. KK chicken were sooooo delicious! Crispy outside but still juicy and tender with a good taste! Definitely recommend this dish. However sambal green beans wasnā€™t quite right for my taste. I donā€™t think I like the taste of their sambal. The beans were nice with good texture though. Service was alright and the place is clean(ish).
The Poor Foodie
I got Hokkien mee for dine in and mee goreng for takeaway. The hokkien mee has a dark garlic sauce which was not really my cup of tea - like the taste was a bit saltier than expected. But I kept the leftover in a takeaway box and put some leftover rice inside and mixed it, it was surprisingly okay. It tasted like korean jajjang sauce. Mee goreng was pretty good
Pritesh Mistry
Service was poor, staff were rude food was good. Would only recommend for takeaway. Took over 30 mins to have our orders taken after asking staff 5 times. Waiting service was unacceptable given how high the prices are. Go home if you don't want to be there and start serving orders like McDonald's would have been less offensive. Seating was over cramped for the group size. A smile would go a long way, first one I saw was went paying the bill.
Aireena Omar
Nice service, was surprised we had ordered the same thing despite using Zomato G.<br/><br/>Super large portion and staff were really nice to help us get take away boxes<br/><br/>UPDATE:<br/>After changing their zomato gold terms of only 20% off they didnā€™t allow us to use it. You should have said that youā€™re using zomato gold beforehand. On zomato it states that our unlocks automatically happen regarding discount, well not here šŸ™ƒ

Please get a baby seat. Its very difficult to manage kids without that. Would not recommend this place for people with young kids until they get a baby seat.Wait time was long and the waitress forgot our order and people who came 45 minutes after were served food. She did not follow up and we had to ask them 3 or 4 times finally when the food arrived. It ended being stressful and would have preferred to stay at home. Food is good as usual and we used zomato gold. Plz correct your mistakes.

When we first arrived, weā€™ve shown that we wanted to use Zomato gold. We finally got a menu after sat for 5 minutes. After another 5 minutes to get someone to attend to our order, we were told the menu was wrong and we had to use another menu. We inspected the menu and see nothing different, so we ordered again and being asked to wait. Then, the next five minutes, when we ordered the same thing again, we were told the menu that we wanted was not part of the promotion.<br/>I showed the order taker that in Zomato gold app, thereā€™s no note for any restrictions on the menu, and the order that we want to make was also shown online.<br/>We finally decided to order another things so not to make the person feel burdened from the fault of their top management-no clarification on the limitations to the zomato list.<br/>When I asked about the tenderness of the beef rendang, the person was not able to answer me. I further asked the method of cooking, in order to get better idea. Rather than finding out the information so I can placed an order, the person rather said that he didnā€™t know and that he thought it should be tender. I asked again, by informing that I have difficulty to chew beef if itā€™s not soft enough, and usually this can be achieved through slow cooking or pressurised cooker. I hope he will now get the idea how important it is, not just a casual question. He suddenly assured me that the meat is soft. I reminded him two minutes ago he werenā€™t sure and I concerned the fact that he still didnā€™t know the method of cooking. He could not answer me.<br/>I told him we will leave and he said he will told his management about it.<br/>In conclusion, it was a terrible experience. Please do not place yourself in Zomato gold if you are not ready.
Patrick Tong
Very efficient service. Portion size is huge for the price they charge. Yummy too.

Not child friendly place as no high chair was provided <br/>No apology<br/>Just spoilt our dinning experience altogether<br/>Family with kids you are not welcome here

My husband loves the fish soup rice noodle here for manys years. So we always buy takeaway via delivery app. They separate the noodles and soup which is really good, and quantity is 5/5.

A famous Malay restaurant heard of many times and finally gave it a shot. Not bad but also not good enough. Taste didn't surprise us. But service is wonderful. Staffs were all friendly and happy to help. Approx. $100 for three people.

I just had the worst customer experience here. I ordered takeaway on the phone and when i arrived to pick it up i changed my mind and wanted to dine in. I sat myself down and had to ask for dine in cutlery twice. I then asked a passing waitress for napkins and she looked at me with this weird look. Surprise she never came back with napkins so i had to go get them off another table myself. When i was finished with my meal i was kind enough to clear my own table and bring up the plates and rubbish to the front/register. Again was ignored and i stood there for a good 3 minutes with no one acknowledging me and taking the plates/rubbish off my hands. I had no choice but to dump it next to the cash register. The staff here are the RUDEST people in the hospitality industry i have ever met. Stay away. And oh not to mention the food was average, had no flavour.
Monalisa Anne Cabriga Santos
I have been dying to try this spot for the longest time and finally got around to getting on it. At first I was a little hesitant as the set up was not your usual dine in restaurant, more like an eatery/canteen feel. We did have to wait a little to get a table as we came in during peak time. When we finally got the food we ordered, we were not disappointed at all. It tastes super authentic. The serving sizes were really good too which was a plus.

Good and friendly atmosphere. Prices are ok and the food is really good. Nice for meet up with friends.

Quote 'JEAN2095' for 20% off Zomato Gold membership. Great deal!<br/>Went to KK Malaysian cuisine when it still had it's 1 for1 zomatogold food deal (super worth it and it was how we discovered this awesome Malaysian food venue). Kinda disappointed now that it only has 2+2drinks. Well, all good things come to an end, guess we gotta start searching for other Malaysian food places in Auckland to head to which has zomatogold 1+1 food now!<br/>My hubby and I ordered the Singapore vermicelli and the KK special nasi lemak & they were delicious and the portions were generous. I especially love that the Singapore vermecilli was spicy and had a 'wok hei' (which can only be achieved by good temperature control and high heat). We really enjoyed this authentic Malaysian taste and got to say they really nailed it!<br/><br/>Quote 'JEAN2095' for 20% off Zomato Gold membership. Great deal!

Went for a friend's birthday. As 4 authentic Malaysians, we can confidently say that the food was 'top notch'. We ordered a good ol' char kway teow, sambal eggplant and a KK chicken. While walking towards the restaurant we could smell the fragrance of the Malaysian cuisine wafting down the street, we were absolutely famished. If you can't already tell from the timeline of the images, we tried to wait for all three dishes to arrive before beginning to eat, but by the time the last dish came, we couldn't resist and had already began on the CKT. I would definitely recommend the sambal eggplant, but the CKT was missing a little 'fire', chef might need to turn up the heat on that one. Of course, how can we forget about the teh tarik? Equipped with our Zomato Gold, we ordered 4 generous cups of teh tarik. They were so good we almost ordered another four. However, because the portions of the food were so generous, we couldn't possibly fit another cup of teh tarik into our stomachs which was unfortunate. Our teh tarik chef had amazing service and was very entertaining. Interior was small but sweet, the restaurant was absolutely packed by the time we left, thankful that we had arrived earlier than the crowd. Would have been an even better meal if the 1+1 Zomato gold was back :P but will definitely be back for another cup of that teh tarik

Had really high expectations for KK because of my friendā€™s recommendation. But after tried their most popular and basic Malaysian dishes, theyā€™re really disappointing. Food tasted really average despite the huge portion. Would prefer other authentic Malaysian restaurants.

This place is a family favourite - donā€™t forget to book before you go if you plan on dining in. Food is delicious and good portion sizes! My favourite is the butter prawns and kk chicken. Cannot recommend this place enough for a good feed!

My mom has always loved getting takeaways from Kk Malaysian and gotta say foodwise it hasnā€™t disappointed. Service-wise if you do go to the establishment and decide to eat there itā€™s almost always packed and for some reason I always get served by a snappy lady who just always sounded like she wanted the interaction to be over with. Iā€™d say the food arrives in medium speed and the portions are always worth it. Might be better to just get takeaway like I always do though hahah.
Arianaaa
Simple Malaysian restaurant, staff friendliness was on and off depending on who was serving you. <br/>Had the regular sized seafood laksa and a cold milk tea. For the amount of ingredients and the quality of it for the laksa, it is a bit overpriced imo. Maybe go for the larger size and split with a friend and order a side dish to share as well.
Abhiruchi Mehta
The kk special chicken is very special indeed. Packed with flavor and amazing cheat meal. Their satay chicken was good too. Must try one of their beers to go with the chicken.
Austranglish
This place is satisfying in every respect; excellent food, a bustling ambience reminiscent of a Malaysian street market, and waiting staff who never miss a beat. We have been going there for 8 or 9 years and have enjoyed every single meal. Chicken laksa, butter chicken, Hianese chicken and sambal chicken (we like chicken!) with a generous glass of wine and abundant steamed rice cost $105 and satisfied 3 hungry men. The special eggplant with chicken is a specially satisfying treat. We didnā€™t have room for it on our last visit but are looking forward to again soon. <br/><br/>There are many restaurants in this town that could learn from the waiting staff at KK. Their unflappable demeanour, efficiency and accuracy should are a benchmark for how to provide service in an ethnic restaurant.<br/><br/>The property is a bit functional and might be ā€˜zhooozhedā€™ up a bit, especially if the owners could separate diners from the realities of cooking and cleaning up, but I have never felt this is a big issue and, well, if it ainā€™t broke, donā€™t fix itā€™. I would rather KK stayed exactly as it is, rather than going down the soulless chrome and glass route, or worse yet, down the beaded curtain route. Letā€™s just stick with the NZRail 1950ā€™s tearoom look so long as the food stays great and the value remains exceptional.
Krystal.ēæēæ Zhang
Food at kk never disappointing me and it has been famous for years but the service does really need to improve. And they changed Zomato Gold promotion from 1+1 on food to 2+2 on drinks in a very short time but they don't even have many drinks

The KK Malaysian special chicken dish was a bit tough and chewy to eat the second time I ordered. The prawn dish was very delicious. Very quick service. I wish there was more space in the restaurant. Overall good value for money.

A great place to get Malaysian food. It's always good. If customer service is not an issue for you, then this is a place to check out. Just eat and go. Used my zomato gold here last month for 1+1 food, but they changed it to 1+1 drinks this time. Just sad coz I don't go there for their drinks but for their food. šŸ˜”

I will forever love KK Malaysian cuisine and know it to be my first time eating Malaysian food outside of Malaysia. They are always friendly to serve us, even though the dining area isnā€™t fancy and the menus are just paper print outs, the food is the best Malaysian food in Auckland. Guaranteed. <br/><br/>Each dish is prepared so lovingly and spiced/seasoned so perfectly. You must try the fish bone collar soup, beef rendang, chicken curry with roti and their fried noodle dishes. The portions are also huge for what you pay for! Extra value for money and always food to takeaway home.

I hadnā€™t been to KK for a long time but when I got zomato gold it popped up so I decided to try it. The food was average and although the portions are relatively big, it was quite pricey. I had the mee goreng and my mum had to wat dan hor. Both dishes were $20 each. My mums dish was slightly<br/>bland which was disappointing
Wayne
They change deal from food to drink as they wish. That confused people. Zomato should have control of it. Shouldnā€™t bought the membership. Waste of bloody money

Food portion are large, recommended to go with friends and share. Do recommend to book before going , we waited 20minutes for table of 4 on a weekday.
Anthony
Food keeps to be of high quality on our a few visits. Worth waiting as often goes full house(or book in advance). Waiters are sometimes a bit busy
Debby
I like the food very much, it is highly recommended. Service also good, only the place a bit small so have to wait to get a table. But other than that all good. I will definitly come again.
Nomis Mil
We were usual to come to KK for our lunches but not in the recent years. Last week we visited KK after a long period of time. We found that their foods are taste diff in a way not very traditional malaysian foods we usual to have (we are from malaysia by the way) also the size of the rendang beef dish was small not in a standard size, small portion, hope itā€™s not because of we told them we have zomato gold.
Julie
Very good food..., handy location. And the customer service is so excellent. Highly recommended. Will definitely dine again. See you soon KK<br/><br/>

Came here for dinner few days ago. We ordered a sambal chicken and a fish head noodles.<br/>Sambal chicken is decent but I wish it can be spicier (personally a spicy fans).<br/>I will not return for its fish head noodles. Personally, I don't think this is a quality dish. I don't like the texture of vermicelli in the fish head noodles, too hard. Spoilt bean sprouts (already turned black and soggy) was added in the soup. I also don't like the beam sprouts taste that went into the soup. I believe the soup will be better without bean sprouts. Give it a try Chef, if your are reading šŸ˜‰

I wish the chef here can be more consistent, even the same dishes can taste different each time, so visits here can be a hit or miss depending on your luck. Sometimes itā€™s flavourful and well balanced, while other times itā€™s just taste odd or bland. This is from the perspective of a self proclaimed foodie Singaporean. Great place though for large group dinner since the portions are huge and fantastic for sharing, food is especially worth it with Zomato Gold where you get the free dish (use my promo code SAPHIC to purchase the membership at a discount). On a good day, the butter prawns and mince (homemade) tofu are our favourites!

Was recommended by a friend -- so glad I listened!<br/><br/>Instantly fell in love with the signature KK Chicken and I've been craving for more since my last visit (I'm going for it again tomorrow). Minced tofu went so well with the chicken too.<br/><br/>Portion size is good for sharing.<br/><br/>This place is quite packed for dinner so be prepared to wait a while if you haven't booked :)<br/><br/>Overall, amazing food and service.
Jordan
#zomatogold# experience was awesome!!! We had no issue with Zomato Gold. Ordered Fish head noodle soup and KK pork ribs. Very yummy! <br/><br/>The service was great as well. The waitress gave us an empty plate for the fish bones, very handy. I asked for chilli sauce, the waitress brought two different kinds of chilli sauce within two mins! <br/><br/>Highly recommend, definitely 5 star.
Andrea
The Ling Collar Curry Laska was good, large portion, with at least four fish pieces. But the nasi lemak was not taste good and the rice was cold.
LemonC
Great food, friendly staff, recommended!<br/>One of my favourite Malaysian restaurant, always really busy.<br/>Noodle soup was really yummy, fish dish was also amazing
Roopali Dhingra
Good service and good food. The must try is there Chicken Satay.<br/>Really good portion size.<br/>Have outdoor seating and BYO which makes it an ideal place for drinks as well
Samee Al Amin
Good food and good portions. Ambiance could be a lot better. Seating is very cramped and at times people walk brushing you. Service could get a little better.
Edwin Khor Yeu Sheuan
This place is forever the best Malaysian Food in NZ need I say any more ... great food !!!! ........ been coming here for the past 10 years with no drop in quality ever.
Nicole Chang
We ordered an Assam fish and butter prawn for our main and also an entree of chicken satay. Great food but disappointed with staff didn't advise the fish dish was not covered by Zomato gold deal when order like other restaurants do. We didn't like the cashier staff attitude when asking why we didn't get advise when we put our order in.
Diana Abug-Yao
Itā€™s my first time to eat here and the food was G-R-E-A-T!!!! I love the mummy chicken(marmite chicken) my new favorite!!! Will come back soon! :)
Chrissy Zhong
Dined here with work colleagues for lunch and used our Zomato gold membership. Great food and good service! Will definitely be coming back again.
MayLing Nguyen
Very warm customer service provided by Fahem. Even when itā€™s packed to the brim, heā€™s is as patient as ever! Wonderful, hearty meal here using a unique blending of ingredients. The portion sizes are very generous which means the price you pay is definitely worth it. It can be hard to find a table so it is advised to book in advance. Will definitely be returning

Unlocked my Zamato Gold at KK for dinner last night. Service was ok and we ordered 2x dishes: KK Chicken ($24.00) and Curry Chicken ($24.00). Both very yummy and extremely great portion, especially the KK Chicken yummm. We couldn't finish the food at the end so had to do a piggy-bag takeaway. The bonus is we got 50% discount and only paid $24.00 ($12.00 each) ...what more can I say?? I was shocked by the value we got. Bravo KK and Zamato Gold!! ēœŸę£’!! ;-)
Petitesweetsnz
Food is authentic Malaysian cuisine and you always get food envy when you see plates of food you didn't order go past. Tonight's order include: fried tofu with cursed peanuts, cucumber and sweet chilli sauce;. Wat Dan hor noodles, kk fried chicken, beef rendang and roti. Next time must order hainanese chicken and rice.
Echo Zhou
I am shocked by how big the potion it is!!!<br/>Love this Mummy Chicken. Strong beer flavored!<br/>We went there on Thursday night, plz make reservations guys, I guess partly because of Zomato Gold, KK now has soo many customers in the evening
Sonia Patel
Food is really good but service has been poor . The wait was excellent but the lady at the counter was very rude . That really spoilt the experience for us .
Jacynda Darmawan
Reminds me of home-cooked food. <br/><br/>A bit on the pricey side, however the portion is reasonable. Great for group meals as the dishes are shareable. It's always good to order a variety of dishes and try a little bit of everything.
Wendy Chan
Both adults and kids love the food here. Portion is generous and price is reasonable. We thought we will go there earlier to avoid the busy period as we have small children, and the place filled up fast even at 530pm. Staff were cool but service was super quick and our meals arrived within 5 mins. We used our zomato gold, no issue there. Would definitely come to try other dishes.
Darren Big Belly
What an OG Malaysian restaurant. I think I've been here 20 years ago. Everything is as it's always been and probably always will be, if the owners stays the same.<br/>The food is always good, though some I don't like - mama chicken tastes kinda weird for me.<br/>I like the fried noodles here and stir fried water spinach.ē©ŗåæƒčœ
Hao Yong
Go there all the time I think itā€™s one of the best Malaysian food in Auckland order the butter prawn please itā€™s the best thing on earth!!!!
David Tien
Saw this in zomato so decided to come during lunch break. We ordered a kk chicken and mummy ribs and it definitely did not disappoint! Very tasty and generous portion sizes. Would definitely be back to try other items next time

The food here is amazing. I have visited on many occasions but more recently using the Zomato Gold 1+1 with a group of friends which definitely adds a lot more value to your experience. Dishes I could highly recommend are Butter Prawns, KK chicken and Mummy Spareribs (marmite flavour - sounds weird but tastes A1).
Cherries_inthesnow
Having lived in Epsom for the past 14 years, I've passed KKs an innumerable number of times. I remember coming here sporadically in high school and not thinking much of it, however it seems that my taste buds have changed. Now taking full advantage of my Zomato gold, I've been back no less than 5 times in the last two weeks. Yes, maybe just a tad excessive at this point. šŸ˜<br/><br/>What you need to know:<br/><br/>The good: Portions are huge and pack such a punch. I am addicted to the Tom yum fish head noodle soup, the KK ribs, sambal prawns and eggplant. If you want genuine sambal flavours and an intensely hearty meal, this is the place for you.<br/><br/>The bad: It gets loud, crammed and super busy so you'd need to make a booking. Service is a little slow (although the middle eastern guy that works there is really friendly and is trying his best. KK please hire more staff!)<br/><br/>
Nibin Purushothaman
Loved the food especially KK fried chicken. the best part is the quantity and customer service .will definitely go back šŸ˜Š.best place to try Malaysian cuisine .<br/>
Wilson Shum
Had the nasi lemak from here today. Loved the taste and especially the coconut rice. It was well presented and I think the blue food colouring (I assume) makes it look better. Only thing I didnt like was the cucumber. I feel that it was washed under tap water and then placed on the plate immediately. So I could taste the tap water on it.<br/><br/>Taste - 4/5<br/>Service - 3/5<br/><br/>

We came as a party of four and ordered a Butter Chicken, Cha Kuey Teow, Sambal Eggplant, and a Wa Tan Hor.<br/><br/>Every single dish was phenomenal with portion sizes ideal for sharing with a group, although the stand-out for me would have to be the kk eggplant. Utilising our gold membership also made the entire meal even more worth it.<br/><br/>You definitely have to book a table in advance as the place gets extremely packed, especially on a Saturday night when we came. Ambience isnā€™t the best with it being so loud and cramped, but definitely worth it for the food.
Tshun Ho
Food is authentic, staff is very helpful and polite. A place that you can find taste of Malaysia. Definitely will return to this restaurant again.
SeaLam
we had a great dinner at kk the food came very fast and the food was great. The price was fair and the food portions were large. overall a good restaurant and we will come back soon
Stephanie Lee
The mummy chicken was good but the beef rendang was dry and the wattanhor too watery and the noodles were burnt. The serving staff were nice enough but the lady at the counter was rude and only took off the cheapest thing on the menu for our zomato gold rather than the second equally priced item.
Irene
KK has the best fish head noodle soup in akl and awesome butter fish! the chicken satay is very nice too. 6 star rating! :) keep up with the good work KK
Vaqara_Kana
Be transported to Kualar Lumpur with the authentic Malaysian flavours, value for money and best BYO! Most of the serves are family size so take your family, friends and tribe! We had the seafood laksa and beef rendang. Ingredients and flavours on point. The kitchen is very busy and the food comes out so quickly. Definately going back
Cushla Foley
Second time visiting and it did not disappoint. This time I tried new dishes- both delicious. I especially loved the Malaysian Version of sweet and sour pork! Very generous servings and super friendly staff! I will be back.
Epicure
Went there and they were out of most entrees. We liked KKā€™s chicken and all other items were pretty average including sambhal chicken, Nasi goreng, Mee goreng. Staff was too busy to listen. Terrible customer service. Will not go again...
Peiky
Came on a busy Saturday night but service and food was still good! We ordered KK chicken (highly recommend!), sambal okra, garlic beans and seafood tofu. One of our favourite Malaysian restaurants to go to!
Felicia
Went there last night with no booking. It was busy and we were very lucky to have a table relatively quick! We ordered three dishes to share between the four of us, the first arrived after 40 minutes, and the second and third 10 and 15 minutes afterwards. Food was delicious and worth the wait!! Highly recommend to all.
Xinyu Zhang
Very nice place to eat!! I think itā€™s the best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland. I ordered the tofu itā€™s really nice. The portion is very big as well. <br/>
Chun Yi
Damn not much good Malaysian foodie places around but this place is gooood. Portion size were massive, had to takeaway and eat rest for dinz. I orders thick Asian flat noodles (vag) and also Megoreng.
Evilmaikel
I was a regular customer for many years and it was always great but now I only go very seldom as the quality of the food is by far not what it was. Some dishes are still o.k. but in general I cannot recommend the place anymore. I think it still lives from the good reputation it had years ago and thats why its still full but if it would open as a new place today it would fail. I visit malaysia often so I know original malay food.
Chris L
Friendly and fast service. Food was really tasty. Dishes can be quite large in portion size, depending on what you order. We had noodles and beef rendang and that was perfect size for 2. Definitely will be back
Chris
Went here for dinner this evening. Amazing food, full of flavor and excellent service, 5 out of 5. Thanks KK Malaysian Cuisine! We will be back and definately recommended!
Jasmine
Tiny but VERY busy restaurant.<br/>We walked in without a reservation around 6:30pm on a Tuesday night before our event at Alexandra Park and was lucky enough to get a table. Small restaurant- very typical mid-range Chinese/Malaysian restaurant. Nothing special about the decor and didnā€™t have much of an expectation as once the place got busy, we couldnā€™t capture the attention of the staff to order our food. Once again, what I expected from a mid-range Chinese/Malaysian restaurant. Thought the food was overpriced when we were looking at the menu. Price ranging from $20 plus. How I was wrong though. <br/><br/>We ordered the Mamee Chicken and the Seafood Laksa. Mamee Chicken came out first and the portion size was decent but the chicken pieces were definitely above average in size. Interesting flavour but delicious. Recommended with rice as the flavour is quite strong and can be sickening if you donā€™t eat it with anything else. Itā€™s deep fried chicken pieces with Marmite & an Asian twist. It was definitely a popular dish as other customers were spotted eating this dish.<br/><br/>When the Seafood Laksa came out, I was surprised at the portion size. It was MASSIVE, definitely a sharing size. No wonder it was $24. All complaints about the ā€˜expensiveā€™ menu had disappeared. The laksa was also quite tasty with a decent amount of fishballs and 3x prawns. It wasnā€™t the best laksa Iā€™ve had (I still rate Uncle Mannā€™s as the best Laksa restaurant in Auckland) but it was definitely up there, hitting second place in #jazzthefoodie ā€˜s list.<br/><br/>The restaurant has a bonus being BYO with a corkage fee of $2 per person which is perfect for someone who wants good food and cheap drinks.<br/><br/>Iā€™ll definitely be back soon for my fav Malaysian dish; Char Quey Teow and Rendang. Almost sad that I didnā€™t order it this time round but also proud that we tried something new.<br/><br/>Iā€™d rate the place higher if the ambience & size of the restaurant was bigger but foodwise, Iā€™d give it a 4/5! Definitely worth the visit if you love Malaysian food.<br/><br/>#jazzthefoodie

The Asam Fish and the Sambal Chicken were great. We really enjoyed eating here. The staff was helpful too. Recommended place for having dinner.
Lily
Really generous portion sizes, wait staff were very friendly and very accommodating. We ordered the Nadi Goreng which is definitely recommended
CHIFAN.EATS
AMAZING PLACE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I used to go there all the time and have tried almost everything on the menu. I always left full and satisfied no matter what I ordered. KK joining Zomato Gold reminded me that I havenā€™t been for quite a while, and after my visit Iā€™m happy to say that the quality and the quantity stayed 10/10<br/><br/>Food 10/10 Service 8/10 Ambience 7/10

Authentic Malaysian restaurant - ordered the ling collar bone vermicelli and the Nasi Lemak.<br/>The ling collar bone had surprisingly a generous portion of meat.<br/>Food came out relatively quickly and full of flavour.<br/>Come early or make sure you book a table before you come because this little restaurant gets filled up super quickly!
Drew Deakin
You canā€™t go wrong with KK, great food, great price. Donā€™t come here for 5 star ā€œserviceā€, but the staff are friendly and accommodating, a great hidden secret outside of Auckland CBD
Ann Castillo
One of our favourite places to visit when we have Malaysian food cravings! The pork ribs was definitely the star of the meal. The beef rendang was tasty and tender! The Hainanese chicken rice was pretty average compared to others Iā€™ve tried but overall was still pretty decent.
Ruby Jang
We usually get takeaways here, but we had the gold membership so dined in. We ordered the char kway teow and beef rendang, both dishes were really delicious with big portions. Had no issues using the membership, friendly service.
P Chen
Pretty good food with big portions. <br/>Dinner was served pretty quickly despite being really busy. <br/>Mummy chicken and fish soup rice noodle will have to be my favourites.
J Li
Staffs are always very busy. Love certain aspect of food such as their sambal. But the fish noodle soup was not the best. Itā€™s definitely up to standard but Iā€™ve favourable ones from other outlets.
Nisheeka Lal
Me and my partner dined at KK today and we liked the customer service however the food wasn't to our liking. We thought the KK chicken was a bit too salty but we still finished it. Food presentation was good. Lovely staff. Always busy, calling ahead of time for a booking recommended.

Delicious, tasty and authentic Malaysian dishes. We used the Zomato Gold deal and the lady who took our order was really friendly. Luckily we book a table through Zomato. When we got there, there was a queue for seats. Ordered sambal eggplants, ling collar laksa, butter chicken and home made tofu with chicken rice. Total $81. Food came out really fast, super value for money, generous portion size, we have enough leftovers for lunch the next day. They charge 50c for plastic takeaway container.

Great authentic food with generous servings that we ended up doggy bagging most of it. Initially served by the main Chinese counter lady whom was very impolite but then was served by and Arabic server Fahim (probably got the name wrong) whom in contrast was very polite and patient due to our issues with Zomato gold. If it wasnā€™t for him to resolve the issue, probably wouldā€™ve rated at 3 due to service but good on him for being customer centric.
Esther Ling
Super friendly and helpful waiter who explained patiently how to use zomato gold as first time using it. Food came out super fast and in good portion. Very yummy.
MG Corcuera
Servings were generous and staff were accommodating. Came at a busy time so the rice came late, but service was overall great nonetheless! Food was so tasty, will definitely be back again and recommend to friends šŸ˜„
Mark Jarvis
Great food and quick service. We had the beef rendang which was cooked perfectly, good size and was pumped with lots of flavours.KK was great value and we will be back again soon!
Febio Wendiady
One of the best malaysian restaurants in Auckland. We just went there last week but since we found out that they are also one of Zomato Gold partners. We couldn't resist to come back here again this weekend. Food is always good. Recommended dishes: KK chicken, Butter chicken, Beef rendang, Fried kwetiau & noodles!
Tony Ma
After 6 years I still love their fish collar noodles soup. <br/><br/>Iā€™m on a no carb diet so I only eat the fish collar now. Itā€™s delicious and the soup is great to fill me up without the extra carbs. <br/><br/>Their other dishes are great too including the chicken and prawn dishes. I will upload in the future. <br/><br/>Service: 3/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4.5/5<br/>Environment: 3/5<br/>Price per person: $20-$40

Greeted warmly with patient server and seated quickly. Unfortunately cutlery was a bit dirty and father was not impressed. Food was served within 10 minutes, extremely fast service for dinner. <br/><br/>Deep fried tofu<br/>Topped with basic sweet and sour sauce, crumbled peanut and cucumber not too special but the tofu itself was lovely, crunchy and crisp upon first bite, hot and soft in the centre, a great entree. <br/>8/10<br/><br/>Kk pork ribs<br/>Very crunchy, not what I was expecting, but pleasantly surprised. Mildly spicy, pleased with the crunch! The basil leaves were a really good topping. Pleased that these that the rib pieces had a bit more bone for munching which I personally prefer! <br/>7/10<br/><br/>Butter prawns (~10 king prawns)<br/>The perfect amount of salt and sweet buttery taste, the prawns didnā€™t quit so much have the taste itself but when eaten with the floss tastes great. I was expecting more crunch so that factor was lost on me. <br/>6.5/10<br/><br/>Sambal eggplant<br/>Soft and mildly spicy, paired well with the prawn. Texture of the eggplant is quite soft and not super chewy or tough. Personally I like a bit more chew. But overall the taste was very authentic and a good choice. <br/>7/10<br/><br/>Steamed chicken<br/>Last order for the ones who canā€™t tolerate spice in our family. <br/>Slight peanut flavor, tender upon the first bite. Has a pile of bean sprouts underneath which were average. (Personally not a fan of chicken in general.) <br/>6.5/10

Visited this week. Food was delicious, hygiene was up to standard, and quantity was more than average. Order was served in a reasonable waiting time, restaurant staffs were good. Will not hesitate to recommend, rated this place a 4 star.

Excellent food! The Redang was amazing, but could do with a larger space as it was abit too crowded. The roti portions were too small as well.

Ordered this twice for take away at office lunch time.. the last one for our last lunch together in 2018 - all the food are very nice and yummy, especially sambal kangkong and curry laksa are my fave one
Vidyadhar Shalivahan
Very disappointed with the Prawn sambhal n rice.<br/>There were only 3 prawns in and the rest were shells coated with the masala.I took the opportunity to softly point this out to the lady staff who served me but she was rude and behaved as if she did not understand me.A rip-off at $22 for a paltry portion.Very disappointed .<br/>Additionally they also need to review their hygiene standards.<br/>Avoid if you can as they are just a money making tribe out to get your hard earned moneyšŸ‘ŽšŸ»

I was really disappointed with my meal . I herd so many good thinks about KK Malaysia. First I was greeted by an arrogant lady at the counter .When I asked if I could order takeaway ,she rolled her eyes , look around the kitchen and reluctantly said what do you want .seems to me they donā€™t really care . When my food was ready she dropped on my table turn and walked away, Just plain rude .The food was flavourless and expensive , I have had better at a food hall . First and last time I will go here.
Aika
Delicious tasty food, authentic taste and I think is the best malayĀ place in Auckland. I love coming back here everytime. Favourite dishes are the mi goreng and the fish vermicelli soup.

Superb food and service! Salute to Muhammad! Best Malaysian food in AKL. Eating here almost every week. KK Chicken, Hainanese Chicken rice, Curry Chicken Laksa are our favorite!

Delicious food, the decor needs a little lift but it sort of adds to the street food feel. The portions are huge, and tasty. If you are looking for Malaysian food this place is the best in Auckland. I had the seafood laksa and garlic beans it was full of flavour! Highly recommend
Iris Joy Ebasco Edic
been here with a party of six. <br/>we were seated right away..the place is a bit cramped, it was fully packed and people were still in queue at the entrance when we left. food is good, bit pricey for me tho for the quantity. still good experience.
John Monzon
The best Malaysian resto anywhere. great food. decent prices. the servings are big. KK butter chicken is a must try. as well as their original kk spicy chicken.
Strwbbyyy
very tasty food!! Only problem is itā€™s just oily and a bit chewy which is a turn off but rather than that I would come back to eat. Have always been eating since a few years back and from time to time.
Marcus Lau
Have been to this store many times. In my personal view, this is undoubtedly the best restaurant offering Malaysian foods in the whole New Zealand.<br/><br/>I have tried a lot of Malaysian cuisine cafes or restaurants in New Zealand, I personally find that this restaurant by far offers the best and the most authentic Malaysian foods.<br/><br/>The setback is that the restaurant is rather small and it is quite busy during lunch hour especially on weekends. Their nasi lemak with chicken rendang is really scrumptious. The curry laksa noodle is very lovely too.<br/><br/>If you are a Malaysian food lover and haven't been to this place yet, you may wanna give it a try. Highly recommended!
Amanda Grace Leo
Staff were lovely, and very accommodating. Place is a little pricey, but portions are big. Food was pretty authentic although the Rendang was a tad dry.
Ms July
Our local favorite. Sometimes we would go every weekend. Pretty much always order the samething, Butter Prawn, mummy chicken, Hainan Chicken and Mee Goreng.
Forkingfamished
Good, cheap Malaysian food. Ā Consistently good food and good service especially from their resident waiter Faheem. Ā  BYO wine if you want or they are also licensed. Ā Very generous portions. Ā They do a great Seafood Laksa, great Chicken curry with roti. Ā Their spring rolls are delicious 6 for $12. Ā Husband likes KK special Chicken which is twice cooked with garlic, onions and chilli, curry leaves. Ā Their Ipho steamed chicken with soy, garlic and chilli sauce is delicious too. Ā Great value for money.
Cullen Szeto
Went for pre movie eats. Service nice and quick. Staff attentive. Pad Thai quite salty. Chairs, tables and floor need cleaning big time. Used to be cheap and cheerful. Now just almost cheerful

We love our fusion eats which always combine exciting international cuisines with lush interiors and presentation ā€” think White & Wongs, Simon & Lee and Ramen Takara. Howeverā€¦ sometimes you just want something authentic and hearty like sitting in Aunty-Sarah-from-Malaysiaā€™s kitchen as she whips you up huge plates of Nasi Lemak and green curry chicken, with stalks of lemongrass and kaffir-lime leaves still in the sauce. KK Malay is one of those places. Phil swears by this place as one of the best Malaysian eats around, and even the pickiest of oriental cuisine connoisseurs among us have given it the thumbs up. Donā€™t expect expert dĆ©cor okay? This is literally those orange walls, plastic chairs, serve your own water in plastic jugs situations ā€” but man, the food portions are huge. As with these restaurants we shared a bit of everything.Ā <br/><br/>Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/kk-malaysian-cuisine-march-2018
Nhung Mai
By far the best Malaysian Iā€™ve ever had. Chicken Laksa is the favourite. So full of flavour. Wouldā€™ve given 5 stars but found it a bit pricey.
Guy H
When we went it was super crowded, loud and steamy. Our waiter seemed in a rush and wasn't bothered to answer any questions or recommend anything. One of the waitresses stood with her arm nearly knocking into my friends face repeatly while taking another tables order then bent over and used our table to write it down like we weren't sitting there.<br/>We ordered a prawn dish with shells off but it came as a big pile of shells, heads and legs with thick BBQ sauce and not much else. It was disgusting to be honest, we could barely eat any. Their vege stir fry was fine but pretty bland. When we asked to take it away they dumped a polystyrene container on our table for us to fill ourselves then charged us 50 cents for it.<br/>Overall one of the worst experiences I've had in Auckland, giving them 2 stars purely because the portion sizes were very generous.<br/>
Victoria Consuelo De Guzman
The food is good so that is a straight 4 out of 5. However, the service we received was quite substandard. When we arrived they just gave us a table, left the menu with water and left. No words until they came to ask what we wanted to order. Then, when the food came it was just like leaving food onto the table and that was it. I am afraid it was not that busy when we came in as there were other tables empty.<br/><br/>Nonetheless, if that can be improved, it will definitely get a better rating. Ā The food was amazing, if this is what Malaysian food tastes like, then I highly recommend it to all of you. :D

This place is always packed therefore booking is a must. We ordered Nasi Lemak - chicken and beef, Mummy Chicken, chicken satay and Roti. It will satisfy your cravings for authentic Malaysian taste. The service came fast today and the staff were friendly.
Veronika
Been there on Friday night with a group of colleagues. The place was really busy. Place itself looks shabby, but service is friendly, we didn't have to wait long for our starters and mains to arrive, which is awesome considering how busy they were. The food is delicious, noodle dishes are very generous. They allow to bring your own wine which is a plus. Quite satisfied with the experience.

Super yummy place to eat! The deep fried tofu is to die for! BYO which is a nice change and always quick and easy. Great for takeaways too!!

quantity versus quality. only a few plates are acceptable. service basic<br/>hygiene levels below average. needs massive improvement and yes there are much better options for Malaysian cuisine.<br/>

Delicious Malaysian food. Come here quite often with family friends. We always order curry chicken on rice. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a good Malaysian meal.
Rohit
My go-to Malaysian restaurant. Friendly staff. Food is amazing. Must try: KK Chicken, Mee Goreng, sweet corn soup and the Curry Laksa. Value for money and service is very fast. Ambience could be better - not a big fan of the separated eating areas but food makes up for it.

First time we visited Kk having heard good things about it. Food was good but not impressed with the overall cleaness of the place.Ā

Very impressive Malaysian cuisine place. Very big serve for dishes with extraordinary tastes for all ordered food. Fast and friendly service. The tables were old and the floor was dirty, a re- furnishing should be carried out.

My mom recommended this restaurant to me so I can try other cuisines. It was definitely a great surprise as I liked their food. We ordered the KK chicken, Nyona fried rice, spring roll, and i can't recall the name of the noodles. Value wise it's definitely worth your money as it have generous servings. Taste wise it was also nice as all the food were flavorful and it was really different from other cuisines that Ive tried. Will come back here soon.

Have heard a lot about this place from many friends so thought to give it a try tonight.<br/>I ordered takeaway - mee goreng, Nasi Goreng, curry chicken with roti and satay skewers. Kids loved the satay.<br/>The other dishes were bland and not flavoursome at all, I have eaten these dishes before and itā€™s very disappointing that this place did not live to expectation.<br/>

Marmite ribs tasted a bit odd. As did fried veges. A bit oily. Chicken curry with bone in MUCH better! Roti a little smaller than expected (Mamak in Chancery Square were much bigger).

I live locally and ate here 5 years ago, didn't really like it and never went back...until I recently decided to order a take out. It was ready on time, the dishes were correct per the order and the portions we're generous. However, all the food was intolerably greasy and one dish was swimming in off the shelf sweet and sour sauce, completely overwhelming the ingredients. The roti were particularly greasy and tasteless. Not impressed and won't be back.

This is the second time we've been to KK. Our first experience was a few years ago, and it was great! This time, it was slightly less than great. We had kang kung sambal (water spinach with prawn chilli), KK eggplant, lemon chicken, fried tofu and hokkien mee. The kids loved the lemon chicken, we (the adults) loved the kangkung and eggplant. The hokkien mee didn't taste as authentic nor as good as the previous time we where here. Observing other tables, I noticed that many tables had the steamed whole fish and chicken curry. Perhaps you may want to try those dishes too. We'd still gladly return. I recommend you make a booking as we saw many people get turned away, or had to wait for up to 30mins.

I came across this small restaurant while driving through Epsom with my family. The restaurant seemed to be separated into two parts. We waited about half an hour for our food to come.<br/><br/>We got a big range of food. My favourite was the roti, it has a nice texture but it was a little small. The Ling Collar Everything was full of flavour and it left me feeling full and satisfied.<br/><br/>Food: 6/10<br/>Service: 7/10<br/>Price: 8/10<br/>

Place was packed but food came out incredibly fast. Photos below are the nasi goreng (vegetarian) and Malaysia deep fry tofu. We also ordered chicken rendang, hokkien noodles and vegetable spring rolls - they weren't as good as the vegetarian dishes according to my family. The staff were super friendly (would've given 3.5 if it weren't for the lovely service).
Aimee.
We ordered the chicken curry ($22), crispy tofu,<br/>Roti and rice. The curry was huge. Great value. The tofu was delicious and well seasoned. Roti was super soft and flaky. The male waiter was really kind and offered to help me takeaway my food because we couldnā€™t finish it. Great attention to detail.

Friendly staff ,good service ,<br/>Decor is weird ,Somethings wrong about the red wall colors .Nothing interesting to see.<br/>Noodles is overcook. too salty to me.<br/>30/12/2017, I order mee goreng is good, I like the tomato taste.still too salty to me.

I have been coming here for years , we have always been a big fan and love their butter prawns , mami ribs , fish soup noodles . We came here recently and was so surprised of the sizes of the dishes , they have SHRUNK over the years , especially the Beef Randang, the dish was half of the portion of what we normally ordered , half of the dish was some pickle salads, the actual amount of beef was less than a little bowl. We gave the feedback to the owner and answer we got was ā€œyes this is the size of the beef randangā€ . Itā€™s totally not worth $22 , I would rather go have a nice steak else where . <br/><br/>I hope they would do better next time we return , as we believe in consistency and quality of food is what brings people back.

Malaysian cuisine is flavorsome and fresh. KK's food is amazing.I can't attest to its authenticity myself, having never eaten in Malaysia. However most of the customers are of Malaysian decent so I assume it's quite close to home. This place is vegetarian friendly.<br/><br/>Setting is basic and quite cramped. If you don't mind an average looking sitting area, people looking for decently priced, quality Malaysian cuisine that is outside of the city, KK's is highly recommended.

We were the first customer of the day so we got served quickly. We ordered TOM YUM ling collars vermicelli soup, Malaysia style deep fried tofu, special chicken rice,NASI lemak rice, sweet n sour pork, fried rice and fried choy sum. The food is authentic Malaysian cuisine and the service is not bad.

Suggest you ring and book yourself a table it'll save a lot of stress that's what I've learnt, staff are always friendly food is always out fast as portion sizes are massive N always enough to feed u the next day.. my fav malayasain place to dine at.. I like have some dishes they have a small or large it's good If u want a little bit of everything but not a massive portion highly recommend to at less try
Geena Han
strong curry and cream coconut milk makes Malaysian cuisine very very special and tasty. Feel so happy dine in raining day but see beatiful rainbow above the sky.
Roger DD
Just only have 2 dishes for lunch and food not too bad compared to many Malaysian cafe especially the chicken laksa but felt that the wantan hor chicken a bit undercooked or else will be perfect, we're early so not busy. Hope to be back again for dinner one day.
Benedict Uy
Nice place for a tasty Malaysian meal. Stopped by to get takeaway and all the tables were already full. Even though they already occupy twice the space they did before they are always full. When you try the food you see why.<br/><br/>Really good food and quite a few options on the menu so plenty to try. Try to book beforehand otherwise try your luck and hope for the best.

I was quite disappointed when we went there, as we heard so much about it from other people. <br/><br/>We went as a group of 3, 2 girls ordered laksa and rendang for myself. When it came out, the laksa bowl was almost as big as a bucket. It looked like all of them were actually a share size which we didn't quite expect. It would have been nice if the waitress mentioned something when we're ordered 2 of the same thing for the table. <br/><br/>As for the flavour, it wasn't bad but it was nothing to rave about either.
Mochi.95
It's always satisfying to eat at KK Malaysian Cuisine. The good is always good and is very consistent. I came here for lunch and ordered a regular sized Ling Collar Vermicelli Soup, a large Deep Fried Tofu and also a Curry Chicken with Roti (no photo). It was really good and extremely filling for three people. The soup they use is justšŸ‘šŸ‘. I highly recommend everyone to try the deep fried tofu if you ever eat at KK. It's just amazing!!! However, I would've given it a rating of 5 if they kept the place a bit cleaner - the floors are quite dirty and sometimes sticky too but utensils and tables are always clean. The service is what you would expect at an extremely busy Asian place. This place is also packed at lunch and probably dinner time too.
I Jeremy
Definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurant. I remember the first time i tried here was 10 years ago? Their food is always the best, the only downside for this venue is the decor is not that nice but it is not a big issue, would come back again and again and again....
Stephy_NakiGirl
Definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurants in Auckland. It's so busy that you may need to wait for a table, but if you have the time it's worth it. Favourite dishes are the KK special chicken, mummy chicken, beef rendang & chilli prawns. They have lots of other authentic dishes too. Service is okay, not exactly friendly but super efficient with dishes brought out quickly
Julia Louise
This place gets rave reviews so we thought we'd check it out and see what all the fuss is about. Sorry, but I don't get it. The food was greasy and salty, nothing special. Probably just not my kind of food.
CocoOnFire
Haven't been here for a long time, lucky still about to book a table in last minute. <br/>The foods still very tasty as usual, randang Beef plus roti, sambal chicken and lak Zhi prawns except there's a mis cummumication with the waitress. ... we wanted a dish of the petal (smelly beans) by itself only, not another sambal dish.
Ashlene Cheryl Cardoza
Seems like you need to be really lucky to walk in and get a table here; and thankfully on a cold thursday evening luck was on our side. The restaurant is pretty low frills. Tables are cramped together. The service is quick. The food is tasty.Ā <br/>My partner ordered the Nasi goreng. I really wanted a laksa, but at $22 for soup, I really questioned my decision....that was until it arrived. Ā The fact that they charge $0.50 for takeaway containers should be a dead giveaway but the portions are enormous! The nasi goreng could easily be shared by two. The laska portion was massive. Needless to say I got a takeaway container and that laksa lasted me for three meals after!Ā <br/><br/>We paid $30 for these two dishes and had plenty leftover for many meals the next day. If that isn't value for money I don't know what is!
Juliet
A friend and I ate here recently as I used to always go here with family years ago before they moved. It was very busy which is always a good sign. My friend and I both ordered a chicken curry but were most very disappointed. Very low quality chicken with hardly any meat, just the bone. Flavour wasn't very strong. Large portions was the plus, but not if you didn't want to eat it...not sure if I would come back here by choice.
Sampoorna Laxmi
Food was good. We enjoyed well. Laksa was great. Loved the vegetarian. Not too spicy as Malaysian spice you normally get. Kids friendly. But make sure you reserve a table before hand.
Food Reviewer
The sambal prawns and mee goreng never disappoints. A great place to BYO also. I really love their consistency with food. Been there a few times now. Keep going!!
Jin Yun
The laksa and curry (can't remember what types of either dish) were a class above most, if not all, Malaysian dining spots I have visited. Very rich in flavour and great portions, filling 3 with two dishes.
Chiny Chin Chin
We booked a table for 6 but they have reserved a table for 2 for us. When we arrived and we told them that we have booked a table of 6 rather than 2, then one of the staff told us,<br/>" You guys go wait outside."<br/>Excuse me? I mean I don't mind to wait "outside" but at least u guys should apologize ? Or tell us in a way that we wouldn't find it offensive ?<br/>OK so we have waited outside for 30 minutes and finally we got seated. It took us another 40 minutes for our first dish to come. Then another 20 minutes for second dish. Seriously. I don't think the food is nice. It's average. And i shouldnt be spending my 2 hours just waiting for these average food. That's it. You will not see me coming to your restaurant again. Bye.
Leo Dilshan
Good food<br/>Overpriced <br/>Good service <br/>Friendly staff<br/>Not the cleanest maybe ? Well there was soap on fork . Means clean ? I'm not sure lol <br/>Means they wash them lol . But wash them enough ? Good place but gets crowded as
Bryan Chan
Arrived for dinner around 7PM. They asked if we've booked a table which we haven't. Without hesitation they seated us.We ordered the coconut prawns, Curry chicken, roti and seafood laksa.<br/>We received all our food around 20mins time.<br/><br/>Food was really good. One of the best Malaysian spots in Auckland.Coconut Prawn is definitely a favorite.
Captain Coriander
Delicious Malaysian food, but on the expensive side (although the portion is good). Try beef rendang, mee goreng, sambal eggplant, sambal kangkung. They get very busy so make a booking if you can.
Hua Wei
Always great food, great service, only downside is that the restaurant is not 10 times its size :( would be able to fit more customers and less waiting would be required
Oksana Zhang
Really busy when we came, had to wait awhile to be seated. <br/>All the dishes were good, but their Butter Prawns, which is really nice to eat, always leaves my dad and I with an upset stomach the next day. Not sure what's up with that. <br/><br/>Price-wise it's pretty good for the portion!
Ann R
My go to place for authentic Malaysian cuisine. Their banana prawns and fish are a hit. Have it either way with sambal or tamarind sauces. Or their famous chicken doused in sweet sticky sauce and sesame seeds. Mummas chicken I think it was. Careful with the heat of the food - medium was kiwi very spicy for me. And asked for the prawns to be shelled unless you wanna get stuck in with fingers. Book in advance. The can certainly do with a redecorating.
Iwei
The worst Malaysian food experience in Auckland. I waited an hour for the food to come. During this period, nobody came to tell us that how long do we still have to wait for. The food was OK but we didn't have the mood to eat though. If you really like Malaysian food, Sri Mahkota & Selera & Mamarich would be much better places to go.
Michelle Hwang
A good place to have a healthy Malaysian meal. Fair price, nice taste and good service. But it was Lunar New Year season yesterday, lots of diners visited there, so we spent nearly 35 minutes for waiting dishes.
Charlette Taylor
Been to KK since it first opened. They always provide great service and food! Even it is a bit far to travel to have a meal but if is all worth it at the end of the meal. Nice food, busy place, great service!! 5 stars!<br/>
Ben
One of the best Malaysian eateries in Auckland.<br/><br/>KK's is a small yet hectic restaurant on the corner of Greenlane and Manukau. The food delivers in taste and KK's boasts classic Malaysian cuisine. Some would say it is too busy and tight packed, however we have always enjoyed our experiences here. <br/><br/>The satay kebabs are the best I have ever had and when you go you need to get at least one (whole) fish dish. <br/><br/>The best experience is to share a number of dishes and have a bit of everything. <br/><br/>Parking is good, alcohol is sold here and the service is fast.<br/><br/>I would hold off on the 5 stars as the setting slightly lacks in presentation, but this is irrelevant when reviewing the whole package.<br/><br/>
Michelle
Tried the food last time with my colleague i really think the food is average. Didn't impressed me much. However My colleague loves the curry chken so we went again.<br/>We called to book for a table in the afternoon and we was told that we have been reserved a table for 3. When we arrived the lady was telling us that she didn't received our call . We showed her the calling record and my colleague could even tell that she's the one that answered the call. But she denied. And said sorry we are busy now. Can u guys wait outside? <br/>I do understand that mistake could happen during peak times but it's the attitude that piss us off. Very disappointing.
Lee Scott
Really enjoy the food here, KK always let me feel satisfied since the first visit. i think it was 2005? Ā <br/><br/>KK special ribs if my favor! honestly, i order this everytime when I visit here lol.<br/><br/>Sometimes they gets so busy at weekend so I suggest come at weekdays otherwise you may only have 1 hour to eating but actually 1 hour is enough for eat only<br/><br/>The service here is ok, nothing impressed but they are all kind :)
I_like_pickles
This place gets soooooo incredibly busy. I'm so glad they expanded and bought the store next to them. <br/><br/>The dining area isn't the best. Inside is quite cramped and the outside seating has no privacy as it is next to a busy road where the traffic lights are. So people will stare at you from their cars while they wait in traffic lol.<br/><br/>Next to them is an antique store. <br/>Food is very tasty. I like the laksa, really well seasoned and comes in a huge bowl. The fried dishes or stir fried dishes are a but greasy for my liking. Service is satisfactory but you kind of have to remind them a bit for things like water and cutlery and wave them down. <br/><br/>Difficult to get parking because it's such a busy area.
Lauren
Really enjoyed lunch here today as it wasn't too busy and we got a table straight away. Decided on the mummy chicken and wat tan hor, the chicken was a bit on the salty side luckily we had ordered some chicken rice which made for a good combo. The way tan hor portion was verrrry generous, even the regular size is too much for one person. Found the egg gravy to be a little flavourless but the noddles definitely made up for it.
Jamie Chiang
We generally call in for takeaway as the ambience of the restaurant isn't exactly welcoming and comfortable. Recently, however, it seems that the service quality has taken a serious downturn. The staff members are dismissive and it feels like they just want you to get in and get out - everything feels like such a hassle to them. My last phone call to order was put on hold for five minutes; the phone was put down and ignored, but I couldn't call back because they didn't hang up on their end.Ā <br/><br/>The food here is okay, but definitely not as good as before. My Curry Chicken on Rice had a 5mm thick layer of oil floating on top. The prices are average, maybe if you're desperate for a bite near your location.Ā <br/><br/>This place used to be so great, but what happened? I really hope they restore their old standards or go beyond it. As of now, service and food quality is at an all time low.
Raymond Tiong
Quality of food here was pretty good ā€“ I remember enjoying their laksa. However, found service to be lacking. It's generally pretty busy as well, which can be a bit off-putting if it can compromise service. <br/><br/>I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
Alana
We ordered KK special chicken and KK special eggplant. Both are amazing although the KK chicken is on the salty side. The chicken is a dry dish so I'd recommend ordering something else with sauce so the whole meal wouldn't be so dry. The batter on the chicken was nice and crunchy and the accompaniment of garlic and onion are cherries on a cake. <br/><br/>We also ordered KK special eggplant and it goes very well with the chicken and rice. It is on the oilier side but it goes very well with rice.<br/><br/>The food was served quickly and we got a table easily (we went in at nearly 2pm). The serving portion is great and would definitely recommend others to try it out! <br/><br/>The reason why I gave it a 4.5/5 is because the dishes are on the pricier side. If they can take it down just a wee bit, I'd have given it a perfect 5 and would return regularly.
Momo
Food is epic nice. A bit pricey per dish compared to other places you can eat at, hence my lower rating. Seating is a bit squished as well.
Mareta Hunt
Another fav! Butter chicken, the roti with dipping sauce, the mummy spare ribs, the chicken fried rice. I always book as it gets extremely busy. The location is on main road and it is very loud. But the food tops it off. The service is good they got a few things wrong in order and mucked up other table food to us, they also charge for plastic takeaway containers which i think they shouldn't after paying an average of $90+ on food.
Richardson Lau
Food here is superb, especially the Ling Fish Collar Noodles. The taste is unmistakably malaysian. Good for those of us missing home food. This is comfort food.
Andrean
Hands down, the best place to get Malaysian food in Auckland.<br/>Their KK special chicken and sambal chicken are our favourites.<br/>Booking in advance is highly recommended.
Winnie Luo
Let's take a moment and appreciate the BEST tofu dish in Auckland.<br/><br/>I have always wanted to try KK out but never got around to it until now! They are always so busy and parking is a bit of an issue during peak hours. <br/><br/>The restaurant is like a hole in the wall, kind of shabby and everything has a layer of grease on it but it feels authentic.<br/><br/>The waiters were quite nice and very quick, we ordered three dishes and rice for two. Pricing is not super cheap compared to some other cheap eats but for the quality of food you get, it is definitely worth it!<br/><br/>The mince tofu dish - heavenly. I'm going to forever crave this dish and will return endlessly just for this. <br/><br/>Butter prawns were also very tasty, the prawns were fresh with just the right amount of crunch and flavour.<br/><br/>The KK chicken was nice but definitely more of a sharing dish for more people as it is quite salty and oily. <br/><br/>The only thing is, I wish they would renovated the place a little bit, or maybe just abit more scrubbing so that it can be a more confortable dining environment.<br/>
Woollen03
Have been here couple of times. It's a very busy restaurant and a friendly owner.<br/><br/>To start with, the Ambience is average and has a very congested setting. You may expect a mild smell if you sit inside the restaurant.<br/><br/>For mains we orders beef Ranadaan, green chicken and grilled fish. Beef Ranadaan was amazing, it had amazing flavour and generous amount of beef. It was well presented on a leaf.<br/><br/>Fish was well cooked and was fresh. However was an average flavour to it. Green chicken too was average but was well cooked.<br/><br/>I would recommend to have beef Ranadaan for mains if you are a first timer.<br/><br/>The restaurant service was slow due to busy hours and the guys even managed to miss few items that we had ordered.<br/>Individual ratings<br/>Price 5/10<br/>Serve time 4/10<br/>Ambience 4/10<br/>Food quality 7/10<br/>Staff friendliness 8/10<br/>Cleanliness &hygiene 5/10<br/>Menu variety 5/10<br/>

Malaysian food just does not get old. Tried the chicken rendang, nasi lemak and beef curry. The nasi lemak was excellent, the rice had a nice coconut fragrance too. The chicken rendang wasn't as mindblowingly amazing as I expected but good nonetheless. One slight quibble is that there was too much chicken skin so made it seem like more than it was. Didn't like the beef curry at all though it may be because I don't like beef anyway. Service was really fast too.
Vivek Katial
Went here for dinner on Saturday. I have been a few times now, the food was excellent. We got the sweet and sour pork and the KK Chicken. Both were healthy portion sizes and tasted amazing, the KK chicken in particular.<br/><br/>The table next to us ordered a laksa which looked really good aswell.<br/><br/>Service is a bit average but nothing unbearable. Highly recommended joint ā˜ŗ.

All my family love this restaurant. All food are delicious & tasty. I specialy love sambal fish.<br/>Migorang & nasi gorang both very good.<br/>I love home made tofu, ling colour vermicilly and sambal kongkong. My favourite restaurant.
Emily Omnes
Been to KK so many times because I loved their beef rendang. But last night was a disappointment. The beef was thin slices and the chef only added desiccated coconut without even toasting it. Meat was tasteless and the taste wasn't rendang at all. Large size $22 but the portion was so small. Totally different from what I used to order. Atmosphere different too. <br/>Seafood laksa was ok but still different from I used to order. The new chef or owner of the restaurant uses fresh water prawns instead of salt Water. I don't need to describe what the taste like. <br/>Tea is now $5. Before it was only $2<br/>
HungryRunner
Food is great but the service is poor. Been visiting this resto for several times now and you'll never go wrong with the dishes. They are tasty and exquisite. However, I really don't like how they handle customers. Most notably they are always in a hurry and not polite (from taking your order hastily to clearing up the table even though you're not yet finished). Not to mention menu is a bit pricey but the ambiance is quite cheap.
Prem C
I had a whole fish, chicken curry and both of them were amazing. I also ordered some prawns but they had too much smell which I don't prefer - a personal choice. But overall good experience.<br/>Nice food but over priced. I would make frequent visits if the price matched the ambience and set up.

This is another place that I have been wanting to try again since they closed down the branch in Ellerslie. Glad I finally made it! Ordered the sweet and sour pork, curry fish, rendang chicken and an egg tofu dish just to mixed it abit as I was in a group of 6. The curry fish and the rendang chicken was splendid. The curry was nicely done as it wasn't watery but not too thick either. The rendang chicken was all tender and simply melted in the mouth. The egg tofu dish was another fantastic dish as I liked how they cracked a whole egg on top of the gravy which was already filled with chunky pieces of chicken, mushroom and dried shrimps. The sweet and sour pork was alright but have had better ones elsewhere. I ordered the Teh Tarik for a drink but felt it was a little watery. The ones served at PappaRich is still better. <br/><br/>The physical place comprises of two small separate units to cater for extra indoor seating area. There is some outdoor seats as well. Generally very simple setting which was good enough for me. <br/><br/>Overall this place is still one of the top places for Malaysian food in Auckland. The rendang, curry fish and egg tofu are by far one of the best I have had so far. The dishes are a little on the costlier side which is another down side. Sometimes you have to pay more to get the good stuff. <br/><br/>Highly recommend this place for a simple lunch or dinner meal. Best to call or book ahead as this place is crowded most of the time. šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

My partner and I ordered a large laksa, hainanese chicken and small friend tofu. All dishes arrived promptly. Laksa was very big and came with a lot and I mean a LOT of chicken pieces which tasted nice but chicken pieces were towards the dry side. The hainanese chicken was nice but I am not sure if this was hainanese chicken which the lady explained as I thought it normally comes with grated ginger but nevertheless it was tender and moist. The food was too much for us Ā therefore we had to ask for takeaway. Be aware there is a 50c extra charge for takeaway containers if dining in and asking for food to be taken home which is not a problem for us. Staff were friendly and interior was okay. Will come back again but probably try the seafood laksa next time.

Food was a bit overrated was nothing special. I think it was hyped :S But it is a very busy location. On the night I went it was really busy. Service was okay considering how understaffed they were but the wait was reasonable.
Kartick Trademe
it's ok. pretty decent food at time. Had few decent meal and had few average ones. it's very expensive for it is and ambiance is average to poor. Service is not great.
Frank Lin
The food here is overrated and expensiveĀ <br/><br/>The ambiance is extremely poor with seating by the busy Manukau Road.Ā <br/><br/>The staff give you bad service and show no apologies for that claiming it is part of their job.<br/><br/>The food is really basic and doesn't taste fantastic.

Not wanting to brag too much, but I fancy myself as an expert on Malaysian food, so coming to KK I had big expectations.<br/><br/>Did KK Malaysian meet these expectations? Hell yeah, this place is the bombs! Yes, its prices are on the expensive side, but the portions are huge!<br/><br/>Every dish was a highlight and the service we received was attentive.<br/><br/>Beef Rendang was super tender, and it was awesome that the sauce didn't overpower the beef like other places I've been to. The roti was a favourite for our group, and while we all agreed that the laksa was average-good, we all couldn't keep our hands away. Butter Chicken was interesting, and the way they used the egg flakes made the dish crunchy and oh so devilishly scrumptious.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Just great food. Beef Rendang and the Butter Chicken!<br/><br/>Overall Grade: A

I was quite lazy on a Sunday evening and thought of just having a feed somewhere near and was willing to try something Asian and somewhere new ..have heard a lot of this place and have tend to cross this place a lot but have never been there .. So thought of trying this place ,my first impression on the wait staff was that I found them bit rude where as in terms of food the menu was big and quite elaborate aswell I tried Malaysian curry, veg noodles and deep fried tofu and nothing was like it ..noodles was bit saucy and perfectly seasoned so was the curry and tofu was the winner in them all in terms of how it was being plated to how it tasted ..I still have that taste it was so good will defiantly good there ..much recommended

Guarantee you won't be disappointed if you wanna have some real good Malaysian food. The deep fried Prawns and Fish noodles are must-try dishes.
Tania Ostick
The food here is very tasty and very well priced! Unfortunately I made a booking for 7 as it was my dads 60th unfortunately we had to wait till 7.45 till we finally got a table. It was worth it tho! Would definitely go again

Update:<br/>the food was disappointing in our last visit. Assam fish was dry and definitely not fresh, as if it has been fried a long time ago and the reheated. My favourite dish at this restaurant is no more. I am greatly disappointed at the chef's decision to let the quality slide like this. I will have to find a new Malaysian restaurant now.<br/><br/>Previous:<br/>Very nice food here and quality is consistent. We haven't been back for couple years since we moved. We missed this restaurant so much. After another disappointing experience at local Malaysian restaurant, we decided to drive 30 minutes to KK, just to have proper Malaysian meal again. We weren't disappointed. The food was as good as ever, great flavour with plenty of ingredient. Great restaurant, totally worth it.<br/><br/>Special note: there is no high/baby chair, so I would not recommend this for family with baby/toddlers.

I heard good things about KK from lots of people, and its very close to home. The place was packed for lunch and all the food coming out of the kitchen looked great. I ordered takeaways; mummy chicken and rice. The meal was huge, definitely bang for buck and easily could feed 2 ! The chicken was so delicious, tender and juicy however I expected the sauce to be a little bit sweeter. The rice was also generous in size.<br/>The restaurant itself was nothing at all fancy and pretty cramped but staff were pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back to try some other Malaysian dishes
Joshy
Very nice malaysian<br/><br/>I highly recommend the Chicken Laksa Noodle Soup & the KK Special Chicken<br/><br/>My mum's favourite here is the Wat Tan Hor - which is thick rice noodles in egg gravy or something. Really yum.
Makan
The best Malaysian joint in Auckland. This busy little place in the corner of Manukau and Greenlane Road has grown over the years and expanded to the store next door. The food is tasty and the flavour is good. My favourite dish here is the Hainanese Chicken rice and I used to order this almost weekly! The rest of the food is just as tasty such as the fish head soup and the char kuey teow. The dinner menu is just as good and tasty but come for the quick eats at lunch!

Authentic malaysian cuisine recommended by my parents. Growing up with my mum's malaysian cooking makes me extremely fussy when going to malaysian restaurants. Malaysian food can either be overly salty or too much msg. I found this restaurant served authentic cooked dishes with no msg and it wasn't overly salty. We ordered char keow teow...my favourite! But I was deeply disappointed it had no prawns it it??? If it had prawns in the dish would have been a 5/5. I think they missed it by mistake. . So ill give it a 4/5. However the way they cooked it you could tell they know what they are doing with the char grilled smell which makes the dish authentically cooked šŸ˜Š <br/>We also ordered the sambal fish ....Omg delicious with the aroma of lemongrass that balanced the whole dish. The fish was also very tender and flavourful with the sauce and vegetable garnish. Lastly we ordered the mammy chicken..I think they marinated it in marmite sauce. I don't know if this is authentic malaysian but seems to be a popular dish. I thought the dish was a bit salty probably because of the marmite sauce. However it was still very yummy. Serving sizes was huge! For the three of us we had leftovers to take back home.<br/><br/>Ambience isn't wow. .a bit like a typical malaysian hoker store kind of seating. You will know what I mean if you have been to Malaysia ...Their restaurants are quite similar ambience style. However people come here for the delicious food and the place is packed even with a queue in the evening. My advise book in advance. Waiters are really efficient and prompt to deliver the food fast on the table. Give it a go you may be surprised ā˜ŗ<br/>

We were taken to KK by our Malaysian friend. This was in fact not our first visit. Water was now self-served. My friend ordered chicken curry, Sambal Kangkong (watercress) & fish vermicelli soup with roti & chicken rice. Curry was thin in texture & chicken was tough; Kangkong was well-cooked & delicious, although there were still some tough old pieces; fish was tough, soup was bland & so was vermicelli. The worst was the rice - just poor quality & taste! Too bad, it's another bad food experience. <br/>(Food - 2.5/5; Service - 2.5/5; Ambience - 0.5/5)

Authentic Malaysian cuisine, mostly on point. We shared four dishes and had quite a bit left to takeaway. <br/><br/>The mummy chicken was my favourite - deep fried boneless pieces of chicken in a sticky and sweet dark soy sauce. Crispy, sweet, sticky and savoury at the same time, so good! <br/><br/>The beef rendang was also really authentic - tender beef in a rich spicy coconut gravy. A pity that the serving was quite small. I wanted more. <br/><br/>The wan tan hor (fried white noodles with egg gravy) was also good. The gravy had good flavour with plenty of egg white, complementing the fried noodles well. It could have done with more fish balls or strips of meat as this dish was mostly noodles and gravy. <br/><br/>The big letdown was the ling collar noodles. The broth which is key to the soup noodle dish was flavourless, lacking depth and sweetness of the fish. The dish had a lot of noodles but not much else. The fish itself was also quite tasteless which was disappointing. <br/><br/>For a weekday lunch, this place was bustling. The place is pretty small so if you want a table, a booking would be wise. It was a cafe style setting and quite clean. Service was quick and friendly, something that can be rare for an Asian restaurant, so thumbs up! If you visit, definitely try the mummy chicken and beef rendang.

Excellent food ,very busy place. Authentic Malaysian food. But being very busy it is very noisy. At@times its hard to hear other person across the table.

KK Malaysian is clearly a popular place, it was packed when we came but we managed to snag a table straight away. The place is rather cramped and noisy, definitely far form fancy but that's part of the legitimate atmosphere and experience of southeast Asia. The food came out at a good time and we were amazed at the serving sizes- super generous, especially the entrees! We got apprehensive as they came out, thinking we ordered too much food. We ordered roti, sweetcorn soup, malaysian fried tofu, and beef curry.<br/><br/>Roti- super buttery and flaky with those crisp edges, this tasted SO unhealthy and SO good! They used a lot of margarine or butter so when dipped into the curry, you get that homey taste of a good pie.<br/><br/>Sweetcorn soup- the regular size was plenty enough for 2 people, and was good, but not great.<br/><br/>Malaysian fried tofu- a staple dish but we weren't too impressed as the tofu wasn't crunchy, and was the puffy/ airy style of tofu.<br/><br/>Beef Curry- massive portion with quite a few chunks of carrot, potato, and beef. It became really salty as we progressed through our meal and I was super thirsty afterwards.<br/><br/>Overall, super generous serving sizes but the ambiance is not going to be for everyone, and food tends to be quite oily/ salty (but that is really reminiscent of authentic street foods of Asia).

The best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland.<br/>Excellent food, nice service. Awesome.<br/><br/>This restaurant is always full, so you need to book a table one day in advance.
Mrs Bobabits
This is the best Malaysian restaurant so far.. Whenever I go there, I always get the sambal eggplant! It is always delicious! However, the restaurant is quiet small and busy. So get there early or book your table first!

Very delicious food, and quick service. will definitely recommend going to this place! If you want a taste of Malaysian, this is the place to go
Marggie Pascua
Overall very impressed with the quality of the food. They were very nice especially the Tofu that we ordered. We ordered Assam Prawns, Chicken curry, tofu and eggplants. The servings are very big and good for sharing. Compared to Sri Mahkota, the Assam Prawns that I got from there were a lot bigger and the price was cheaper as well. Good service from the staff, although there were too many people and it was a bit crowded for the place even though there were two sets of 'stores' and an outside setting, there were still a lot of people coming. We went to have lunch there around 12:45pm today.

This malaysian restaurant has a huge selection of food. I was almost bewildered by the size of each dish. I had curry laksa which is second to none. I will definitely come back for curry laksaļ¼<br/>The only thing I have to point out is that they might have put too much salt/msg in the dishesļ¼Œtoo thirsty after eating here.

Came here on a busy Saturday night and was very lucky to get a table - this place is always so busy so have been keen to try it for a while. Had the deep fried tofu to start - delicious - followed by the Assam fish, garlic beans and roti. The fish and the roti were the stand out dishes, beautiful flavours and would certainly order again. Food was incredible so only marked down on atmosphere - fairly cramped, busy, loud, bog standard decor - and they forgot the rice dish we'd ordered.

I'm a Malaysian and this is one of the Malaysian restaurants whose food is as authentic as the ones back home. They have a huge variety of dishes and the appetisers are enough to satisfy you however you can also order mains to share amongst yourselves. Only thing that puts me off coming here too often is the fact that I always get very thirsty and fatigued for hours after eating here. I'm guessing that they put a lot of MSG in their food.
Lucy Doran
Had a group work dinner here and really enjoyed it, the food was so good. We had heaps of plates that we shared. Satay chicken skewers were moist and tasty and the sweet and sour pork was one of the best I've had. I also really liked the mummy chicken it was delicious. Defiantly recommend.
Polash Shariful Hasan
Went there for last night dinner with my wife and 2 colleagues. Food was average. Amount was good. horrible experience with their service. All glasses and plates were look like over stained. So many restrictions for paying the bill.

After reading about some pleasant reviews I decided to come here for a nice dinner. However what I had was what not was expected. There are a few things which I found displeasing. Firstly, food came out at a decent pace but I had to ask for my rice and roti before they were sent out. Furthermore, I am disappointed that the dishes weren't brought out together so I couldn't enjoy the foods I wanted at the same time. I ordered sweet and sour pork and curry chicken. The sweet and sour pork tasted like tomato sauce and had there was too much sauce for my liking. Overall, the pork was dry and the skin very chewy. Next, the chicken in the curry was dry and tasteless with pieces which are way too big to be enjoyable to eat. The potatoes in the curry was not fresh as the skin was very thick and dry inside.Ā <br/><br/>My experience at KK was not a very good one as a result of lackluster service and no fresh ingredients. Maybe it was my choice of dishes but at this price I don't think I would come back again. Other Malaysian joints in Auckland offer better food and service at a lower price.

I have heard a tonne of great things about this place. It has been recommended by various people, so I was keen when I had the opportunity to try it out. I hadn't expected the restaurant to be so small, but I guess with two rooms and outdoor seating its capacity is larger than it seems.<br/><br/>Went with family friends in a large group, booking required. The food was pretty fast to come out, considering it was packed in the restaurant, but to be honest my family was pretty disappointed with the food itself. There was a good variety, and it was decent, but it was hardly as flavoursome as I'm used to having for Malaysian food. It was only okay overall, and for the price, I'd rather go somewhere else for Malaysian.<br/><br/>TL;DR: food was okay. Not as good as other Malaysian restaurants.
Dee
Love the food at KK. The fish curry and green bean dish is a must try. Sambal chicken is also nice and their nasi lemak is delicious. This place is always busy. Reservation is highly recommended or having take away is another option.

This place has absolutely perfected Malaysian food! A hidden gem in Epsom, I'm glad to have now discovered it. You can taste the how much effort goes into the dishes. My only advice would be to be provide a few more vegetarian options. Glad they do BYO too, always a good time with friends! Keep it up :)

Great Malaysian food and great portions. On this visit, we didn't order much but felt very full after. Had one of my favourites, the KK pork ribs- a must try! So deliciously flavoursome and one of my favourite bits of the dish is the garnish which includes fried curry leaves that I would probably eat by itself, it's so good. Also had their chicken satay and you get 6 sticks (not a stingy amount of chicken on that too, very filling!) just for $9. Awesome peanut satay sauce to dip in too. Paired this all up with some of their chicken rice- great combo.<br/><br/>Pays to book every time when eating at KK. Been here during weekdays and still very busy! Only downside I would say is not with the food but with the wait staff- one person it particular. This man I think may be manager (not sure but some sort of head wait staff maybe haha) as he always is there when I go and is in charge of where to sit people. Very gruff and not very hospitable and welcoming. I had to get all sassy when ordering this time time but other than that I come back for the food!

Came here for a BYO and had a blast! The KK special chicken wad cooked to perfection. Will hopefully be back in the near future, and will be recommending to friends

Always heard of their names but only just went their after 11 years. Very small and busy place, lucky to get a table after booking for 9pm. Highly recommended booking in advance. Must try their tofu dish as it is so much tastier that any other Malaysian restaurants. Highly recommend dishes: Crispy creamy butter shrimp and Char kway teow. <br/>

I have been to this place for dinner and it was super busy. However you had to wait for ever to get service. And out of all waiter and waitress it was only a Indian waiter were nice and serving us.my girlfriend and my brother both are Malaysian and both enjoyed a food.
Vitale Eti
If you don't mind sitting nice and close to other diners and you don't mind that KK isn't the prettiest joint, but you want your food nice and hot, spicy and delivered to you nice and quickly (most of the time), then KK's your joint. We like to get there nice and early to avoid longer wait times and scrapping for a space @ the tables and we'd happily go back. Try the Mummy chicken, rending beef and Assam prawns, w. rice and their delicious rotis, our KK faves!
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Food is great 4/5 but sometimes has a long waiting time due to the resturant is always quite busy. Would recommend takeaway or dine earlier.
Jennielyn S. Joaquin
Poor customer service. The waiter is so rude and chewing a bubble gum. It's sad that they have a good food but poor customer service. I am so upset. They should know how to treat customer right!

We go there some time, always like their food. tastyĀ <br/>but there management is very bad. I know they are very busy.Ā <br/>always there is a way to organize. always need to chase after waiting person to order food.<br/>for food. we will always come back
I Love Food
Really good for cheap Malaysian takeaway food! Really tiny, very busy restaurant. My favourite dish is probably the mummy chicken - sweet soy sauce marinate, so good!
Gentlepig
Simply good food - but that's not enough to go bonkers over it. KK Malaysian serves up tasty food (leaves you a tad salty though) and consistently does so. On any day, don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. Flavours areĀ a tadĀ heavy; the sambal chicken and beef rendang are my favourite dishes here. Very pleasing if you feel like you haven't eaten in days!
Keith
We usually visit with family every couple of months or so for lunch and always enjoy the curry laksa, fried noodles and other hawker favourites. But the last time we visited on a Saturday for lunch, the serving sizes had shrunk and there was hardly any meat in the dishes. We had visited about 2 weeks before and were very happy with our meals then. We complained to the waiter and he asked us to tell the chef but he didn't offer to bring the chef out to speak to us... Anyway we'll think again before visiting which is a shame as we had been enjoying this place for years!

I have been a regular at Kk's for many years as they've always managed to satisfy my Malaysian cravings each time. Although service could be polished up a little, the food makes up for it and the owner herself ( Kk) is a wonderful and friendly lady :) This place is usually always full tho so I reccommend you make reseravtions ahead if possible!<br/><br/>Dishes that I have tried here include the Assam fish, roti, kk's special chicken, mummy chicken, coffee ribs, butter prawns, sambal kang kong, kk's special eggplant, steamed chicken, their deep fry tofu and mince tofu. ( Unfortunately photos of those are lost somewhere in my harddrive haha). The standout dishes for me however, would definitely be the Assam fish, the deepfry and mince tofu and the butter prawns!! And in regards to the vge dishes, the eggplant and kang kong dishes are actually super good too. All dishes are served in generous amounts and 2 dishes to share between 2 or even three people would be sufficient in my opinion.<br/><br/>Overall, my favourite Malaysian place to go to and very authentic flavours ( take it from a Malaysian :) ). Prices are extremely reasonable and service is aceptable. TRY THE DEEP FRY TOFU!!
Ryan
Had dinner here over the weekend. Tried the KK chicken and beef rendang, the chicken was a bit dry. Could have done with some dipping sauce, the rendang was decent. Also had some spring rolls, which were fairly standard. On the higher end of the price scale and the mains didn't come with rice either. All in all, average for value and won't be rushing back.
Victoria
Had dinner here tonight, ordered the rendang beef and fried chicken. Both were good but not the best Malaysian we've tried so far in Auckland. Decent but middle of the range with prices. Would go back if in the area.

I used to live nearby KK in Epsom so I've had food there countless of times, mostly takeaways but on the rare occasion I do pop by to dine in. Now I've heard a lot of negative things about KK when it comes down to service and waiting times and I have to say I agree. Service is nothing spectacular, probably because the staff there works quite hard to get as many things done as possible as they are so busy. Yes they are BUSY!!! I see KK being almost full every night without fail and if you have a big group I really do recommend booking ahead. The last time I was there it was a really cold night and we only managed to get the seats outside. They had heater going but it was still freezing until we got some curry into our bellies!<br/><br/>Authenticity? Absolutely! Good food? For sure! I've had the best Laksa there by far! I do highly recommend their "Butter Chicken" (which is not what you expect at all, if you are expecting the curry version you are in for a surprise) . What you get there is an awesome fried chicken covered in coconut and other sweet spices, I'm guessing they used a salted egg batter for the crumbs as well. It was hard to comprehend at first but it is by far my favorite dish. I also highly recommend to tofu as well.
Tania Louk
Hands down the best Laksa I have ever had!!! Well worth the trip to Epsom to experience the Friendly staff, amazing food, well priced and a MUST visit
Ange
This place is awesome. A local favourite. Yummy food and consistently good. Great service too.

KK has become our most visited place for lunches in Auckland. The best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland I can say without doubt. I have a Malaysian heritage andĀ the dishes are as authentic as they can be based on the exposure I have had to Malaysian cuisine.Ā Undoubtedly this has now become our favourite place for dining. WeĀ are regular diners outside and I am a foodie myself, so I know what I am taking about. The waiting time and the attention from staff can be sometime long, but that is because it is very busy - that has to tell something about KK. If you are smartĀ enough, book the place 30 mins in advance, and you have a guaranteed place when you get there. The ambience is not of a fine dining restaurant, but you get what you pay for. Prices are not expensive either. We have tried all of the Malaysian restaurants / eateries around Auckland but nothing compares to KK in terms of authenticity and price of the dishes they provide.Ā Ā This place is for those who actually know what Malaysian foodĀ tastes likeĀ or for those who like exploring different cuisines and those that like food in general - not for those who behave like brats and who think they can just walk into a place and expected to be treated straight a way, not certainly for those who want instant gratification, you will not get it here and KK won't miss out on people like you as there are plenty whoĀ will continue to enjoy what they offer.

Went here with some friends awhile back. Seems to always be busy every time I drive by! The restaurant itself is ok, quiet basic but still decent. The dishes are large and good for sharing. Really good authentic Malaysian food! Definitely worth a try <br/>

Consistently a great restaurant. Although, yes, the building looks run down, the quality and consistency of the amazing food they make cannot be faulted. I can't speak on the authenticity of the restaurant, not having been to Malaysia or having much experience with the cuisine, however as a food lover, the flavours and textures of the meals are fantastic. Can't rave more about this place. I recommend going in groups (we usually get 5 dishes between 6-7 of us and it's plenty). I couldn't recommend the KK chicken and mummy pork ribs higher!!! Incredible food. Overall, a great, tasty, fun place to go. Definitely worth all the praise.

Any Halal restaurant cannot allow a wine for serving. Thus this is not a Halal outlet. please do not confuse people who want to eat in a Halal Place.
Jan Mikhail Amagsila
Good Malaysian Cuisine. Their Dried Butter Chicken are delicious. But its quite pricy. Staff are very nice. Needs a bigger place as its always full and need to wait for awhile.
Josh Law
One of the best Malaysians in Auckland. Best way to describe it is similar quality food to Mamak, but service leaves a little to be desired. Food is a good quantity and extremely authentic.

Went there on a Saturday afternoon. We stopped for a quick lunch on the way to one tree hill, but it wasn't a quick lunch at all. We waited to place and order for ages. I can see staffs walking pass in and out but no body can take our order. We waited for over 20mins just to order our meal. We ordered 3 dishes: Laksa, Singapore noodle and meegoleng. <br/>All the dishes tasted average, nothing special. I heard ppl said they are so popular so I expected something better than average. If I have to pick the best of these 3 dishes, I would go for meegoleng. But not sure if it's because we were starving from waited too long or not, so the first dish taste the best. Then after we don't with the first dish, now came the second, and the third arrived after we finished the second dish 5mind ago. By the time we got the last one, we lost our appetite so we don't feel like want to have that anymore. The staffs wise were alright, nothing impressive but at the same time nothing to be disappointed, like average Chinese restaurant service. Can't expect much <br/>
Jeff Yeh
Rubbish restaurant, waited for 30mins for our first entree to arrive! The guy next to us ordered takeaway waited almost an hour to receive his food! Food was very average, not worth rave about, and not cheap either, trust me you will get better Malaysian food from Food Alley!
Joseph Mavumkal
Quite a regular at this restaurant with my friends and family. Do take outs quite often and come in to dine on occasions as well. This has got to be the best Malaysian restaurant around. Would highly recommend the sambas chicken, chicken rice, butter prawns, well pretty much anything here, you can't go wrong.
Oisin O'Reilly
This place has really good Malaysian vibes. Came here on a busy Sunday afternoon for lunch and we managed to grab seats outside. It almost felt like we were in a coffee shop in a town in Malaysia. The service is not outstanding, but then again you don't go to these places for their service, do you?<br/><br/>I had the fish collar laksa, which was so good! The gravy was thick and outstanding, it has to be one of the best laksa I had here in Auckland (watch out Selera in Newmarket). My only complaint would be that there was a fair amount of bones, that could have possibly been removed earlier, and that diminished the experience slightly.Ā <br/><br/>We also had the hot Chinese tea, which was fairly good. This restaurant is priced quite reasonably. I would definitely come back here to sample their range of Malaysian delights.
Annette Wong
Not a fine dining experience but the food is very authentic. Quite difficult if you do not book a table in advance but well worth the additional efforts. Being Malaysian myself, I always recommend this restaurant to those seeking an authentic malaysian meal.

Service is unbearable. On one occasion the manager/owner(?) gave us 30minutes to eat our dinner. We said no and canceled our reservation, he wasn't happy and threw a fit over the phone. In another occasion we were made to change seats 3 times to accommodate for phone bookings that we coming in. My parents know the owners, acquainted thru some mutual business. But despite this they've had no choice in a few occasions and ended up having a few verbal run ins with him and the staff. Won't be every coming back. I would only ever take away food if desperate. Or go to Sri Mahkota on market road.
Hannah Gear
Decor is very shabby and tables dirty when you sit down. Food was ok, nothing special and the staff are rushed and rude. Vegetarian meals weren't and my chicken was dry and over cooked
Tessa Hall
Food is amazing! Big portions and delicious flavour. I would probably just get takeaway next time though as very busy place and tables all crammed together.

I think it was either an unfortunate day or the quality and taste of KK Malaysian Cuisine has deteriorated to low levels that I have decided not to visit this restaurant in future.<br/><br/>We made a reservation for 3 and were duly honoured with it. Mind you, if you are expecting an ambiance, this is not the right place as the indoors is very cramped with their layout of table and chairs and the kitchen noise and aroma adds to the woe. There are outdoor seats as well.<br/><br/>Hospitality was almost nil and the bearers were on their toes. This happens to be a very busy restaurant as well, so, be prepared to adjust to their work nature - not the other way around.<br/><br/>We ordered Fish Curry and steamed rice and a roti chanai as well. The roti chanai is not the usually fluffy one that they make in malaysian restaurants. They admitted that it is the frozen Paratha that you get in Stores. So, no points there!<br/><br/>The fish curry was a terrible disappointment as the Snapper was deep fried and the oil was too dominating over the curry flavour that everything seemed like entities floating in a disconnected manner. Had it been the usual fish curry, it would have been the same Snapper, slow cooked with okra and egg-plant/brinjal and the slow cooked curry flavour permeating slowly and steadily to the vegetables and fish. So, a big big disappointment!<br/><br/>To add fuel to fire, I had to wait for some time to talk to the Owner to express my disappointment. I realize that they are very busy. But when I told him my experience, his reaction was like, nodding of his head and oh ok. I mean, no expression of we are sorry that your experience has been bad?<br/><br/>I felt completely bad that I even thought of sharing this to such a callous Owner. I think, I will leave my opinion over here.

Had KK for dinner for two people around 6pm on a Sunday night (in order to beat the mad rush at 7pm). The dinner menu starts at 5:30pm and I would recommend you go as early as you can to avoid a long wait for food. We ordered the curry chicken with roti (approx $25), and a sambal eggplant dish with rice (~$21). Dinner menu is reasonable for price once you taste how good the food is! The food can sometimes take a while because of the many people that dine and takeaway - so be prepared for a little wait! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to people who want top quality Malay, and to try something different.
LucyGoosey
I really struggled with what rating to give this place. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to Malaysian food and it's definitely not my favorite cuisine. It just doesn't appeal to me all that much when I could go and get Thai instead. Anyway, got to give new things a go. Firstly, the dĆ©cor of this restaurant is pretty run down. The outdoor tables are wonky, although a waiter did come and propĀ our table up. Having caught a glimpse of the inside, I could see that there were no tables free which made me realise just howĀ popular this restaurant is. The wait staff are rushed off their feet but they work quickly and our meals came out fast. They aren't the friendliest bunch though. I had to remind them twice about our 2nd roti. I really wanted to order the chicken laksa but when the waiter told me it was medium to hot (as laksa should be)Ā I decided to go with the chicken curry which was mild-medium. My curry was delicious and it was huge! It was $20. I would have much rather have paid $12-$15 and got a human sized portion. It would have been enough to feed two. Oh well, that's today's lunch sorted. When you ask for a doggy bag here, they make you pack it up yourself. We also shared some satay kebabs, nothing to write home about but nice enough. My friend had the beef rendang and said she had had much better. The roti here is quite good. Perhaps I am being a little harsh here but I did find quite a few issues with this restaurant. It definitely fits into the "a bit run-down but delicious Asian food" category. But I feel there are much better places in this category such as Selera. My curry was delicious, but I have had delicious curries at lots of places and those places have had friendly staff, nice dĆ©cor and provide a more enjoyable dinning experience.

We have always been wanting to eat here on the way to/from the airport bit ot's always full! We grabbed the chance today and parked our bums on the tables outside at 5:15. By 5:30 the place was full! We had the kk chicken and our server gave us rice enough for 3 bowls -one bowl free. Chicken was very tasty and juicy. Bery glad we finally got to sample this cheap and cheerful eatery. Will be back next time with the kids!

Went for dinner last week with my DLT partner. Food was good, busy resto. One thing that i realise, really really POOR customer service. One of the guy was not friendly at all, when i was asking for something and he stares at me like i did something wrong to him. Really inconvenience and sucks, to be true.Ā <br/>When i came back from rest room to sit down back on my table, suddenly our table were taken already, even though my partner still sat there. Feels like asking us to GET OUT ASAP! What a service.<br/>If you expect a good customer service, i suggest this is not the place. lol. Ā <br/>PS: Manager, send your staff to Customer service school!!
Claire
I was eager to try this place after reading many good reviews. We ordered the KK fried chicken and the mummy ribs to takeaway and were really disappointed. Both dishes were very bland and extremely fatty and greasy. Some of the chicken even had lumps of undercooked batter. The only nice part of the meal was the steamed rice! I would not eat there again.
Tracy Alloway
Love the place. Always full when we visit for dinner. Too bad they close on Mondays. Yummy spicy KK chicken and spicy beans are our favorites.
Lcor156
Very disappointing experience. The food we did manage to get was very good but service was shocking. A party of four, including two Malaysian Chinese. KK had come highly recommended as they had been there previously. Table booked for 7.30pm - a very busy night, so we accepted waiting 20 minutes to be seated. We submitted our order while we waited outside. We ordered three entrees between us (tofu, roti and satay skewers) and four main dishes (pork ribs, beef, nasi lemak and chicken curry). My fiance specified he wanted the nasi lemak dish, not only the rice. Tofu arrived quickly after being seated, then waited 20 minutes before two mains dishes arrived (beef and pork ribs), with several minutes in between the two. After that, no sign of our further dishes at all. Flagged staff three times to ask, who appeared completely disinterested, or those we spoke to seemed to have no clue what had happened to our order - something about how our order had gone to a different cook? After asking strongly for our dishes, the nasi lemak rice came alone - we gave up and left extremely disappointed. We provided verbal feedback at the time and were met again with disinterest and confusion. We will not return to KK.
Keri
Food was good, but not worth the horrible service. We waited at least 15-20 minutes to get our order taken and then another 35-40 minutes after we ordered to get our dishes. That's pretty shockingly slow for Asian food.
William Laughton
Meh. Good food but beef rendang is tough. Waiters are very rude and we had to wait for a waiter four 10 minutes! Felt completely out of place. If they had better service, I would have given them a 4. Really authentic though.
Jangsook Lee
Ordered tom yum soup. Talked to waiter how disappointed as it had only two prawns and a few small fish balls with barely any vegies. Manager came abruptly, not friendly at all, and didn't take my suggestion very well at all. Basically his attitude was if want more vegetables then next time when you order pay more for vegies. Absolutely greedy attitude!
Jane
One star does not even touch on their obnoxious service. <br/><br/>They do not know how to say thank you nor the word sorry.<br/><br/>I have never written a review before in my life but their poor , unacceptable service must be warned to others.<br/>We came in on a Friday night. The place was busy and we saw a few tables that were waiting for their dishes. We sat down, made our order and waited. And waited. And waited. For an HOUR. We knew the place was busy of course and didn't expect the food to come put quick. But an hour?? And what do you know, next minute the table that arrived after us gets their food. Then guess what? Apparently they forgot our order. And then?<br/><br/>Not even one apology. <br/><br/>Okay some people might think, it's a cheap place why do you expect service from them? But I say it's just common sense. Just a simple genuine quick apology would have been suffice.<br/><br/>As for the food, the service just killed my appetite so don't have much to say. <br/><br/>Update: reading through some of the reviews is making me even more angry. Apparently they serve regular customers food first. <br/><br/>

Do not ever say yes when the waiter asks "Do you want a slightly bigger fish for extra $2.00 when you are ordering "Assam Fish". They play that game all the time. It is the same size fish. <br/>Customer service is poor by the old Asian guy. So mean. <br/><br/>Prices are not bad if you are ordering individually but if you are ordering big plates, the quantity is not worth the money.<br/><br/>However, the flavors are good ! Gotta say that.

My family and I went here the other day and were disappointed with the service. The place was really busy therefore they took a long time to come take our order. The food took forever to come out and they even forgot one of our dishes. When the waiter came to give us the cutlery, the chopsticks still had detergent on them. The table next to us finished their food quite early and the waitress cleaned up their mess in the loudiest manner. It was very unpleasant. The food was nice though so 2 stars.

Went on a really wet and windy night and there were not many people out so we did not need to wait for a table.<br/>Our tasty entree of vegetable spring rolls came with-in ten minutes of ordering while our mains took about 25 minutes. The Seafood Laska was top-rate: tasty, hot with lots of seafood. The $18 large serve was definitely enough for 2-4 people.<br/>The Nasi-Goreng was very nice though not as spicy as I have had at other Malaysian eateries. <br/>The staff were friendly and the service was adequate for this style of restaurant. <br/>The atmosphere is super casual.<br/>Total bill for above food and 2 beers $48.00: plus enough leftovers for tomorrows dinner.<br/>We would eat here again as we both enjoyed the food.
Kiri
Went here for the first time last week.<br/><br/>We had a table of nine (so fairly large group), the service like most people are saying, is pretty poor. But the food makes up for it. Delicious!! I still dream about the yummy chicken, the eggplant and curry fish.<br/><br/>Just go even if it's to try it out once, but bare in mind the service isn't 5 stars.

This place has all the hype! We had been wanting to go for a while after so many rave reviews and recommendations from friends etc. The food was nice but nothing special especially when the service is crap and there's no communication from staff about wait time and seating etc.<br/><br/>When our orders came out we didn't realise they were so big that they're more for sharing which explains the prices but again the staff should've let us know then we would probably have ordered differently. All in all not terrible but definitely not worth the hype. Don't go out of your way to go to KK Malaysia Cuisine.

Horrid non-existent 'service'. Stood waiting for a while only to be approached by 2 staff who were eating in the restaurant. I had to ask for a menu and they did not even bother to direct me to a table. I went to get a table on my own for my family. Waited for a while more before the waiter came and told me to move to another table in a rude attitude. He claimed that my table was reserved. I told him that I didn't sea a 'reserved' sign and he said that they don't use 'reserved' signs at their restaurant. Asked me to move to another table. There was no difference between the table I sat at and the other table he wanted me to move to. I had driven all the way from New Plymouth to Auckland and was recommended to try out the food here. Will I ever come back again? Definitely not. Please train your staff on some basic levels of customer service because goodwill and reputation cannot be bought. There are so many other Malaysian restaurants here in Auckland and I will certainly patronise one that can offer me better service and make me feel welcomed.

Service very slow. 1 hour before we had our food served. Waiters tried their best to accommodate for such a small crowded area.<br/><br/>The taste of food was great. Would not recommend the vegetables no flavour.<br/><br/>Regulars were served before the customers who had already been sitting for half hour. Very noticeable.<br/><br/>Not a place for fussy people. Tables were wiped down with dirty clothes not a great look.
Dee
I attempted to try this supposedly top Malaysian restaurant - I sat down, perused the (greasy and creased) menu, and gave my order to the waiter only to have him return and say "I forgot to tell you, we don't do laksa any more". Right. I simply got up and went elsewhere. Perhaps the food that is still on offer lives up to the hype, but to me a tired and drab looking establishment that hands you dirty and tatty old menus which aren't up to date and doesn't even do laksa!, isn't worth my time or money. Won't bother trying again.

The often-crowded KK is still consistent with their quality. The food are delicious, especially the Ling Fish soup, the sambal chicken and the kuewtiauw. There are so many options that I would definitely come back to try more. Sometimes they can be very packed, but the waiters would try their best to accommodate you although everything would feel rushed and aloof.

Didn't expect this from KK. When I entered the restaurant noticed that they had B certificate from the council. I ordered two hot chicken mee-gorengs. I paid $24 expecting good results unfortunately the me goreng was nowhere near the price. They were mild, didn't have any chicken at all, couldn't figure out if it was mee goreng. The lady on the phone told us that it would take them at least 40 minutes but when we reached there in 20 it was already ready..

I've been a couple of times but ended up a bit disappointed. The food is decent and authentic, but I've had better at the night markets. The food isn't good enough to justify the poor service, so I don't think I will be going back.
Emily
Best Malaysian food in New Zealand! The flavour is perfect and everything is simply delicious. We always order a lot and we love it. Down side is the service is slow at nights because its so busy, and they're not the friendliest bunch..
Miss Kiki
Went here with some friends, excellent food, we had the KK special chicken, chicken curry and a tofu dish. Everything was excellent, my favourite was the the KK special chicken. The only downside to this place is that it is freezing inside, I really think they can improve the layout of the place. Other than that I will definitely return but with a thicker coat.

We are regular customers of KK. The food standard unfortunately slipped due to its popularity. It's okay for a bright, cheerful meal..This is a place for a quick meal, not socialising.<br/>The service can be slow, the worst part is that they charge for rice.<br/><br/>We return for meals there still in hope the food would be back to the old standard.

We've been coming here for nearly nine years (since I was pregnant with my daughter who turns 8yrs old next month - and she likes it here too!) and we love it. The food is delicious and very well priced if you compare it to other similar places (and portion sizes are generous at KKS) yes it's not flash or 5* service but who cares with the flavours this place brings? Just leave your precious ideas of "service" at home and enjoy the craziness! <br/>We always order the same:<br/>-crispy tofu w julienne cucumber and peanuts (only $5 for a starter, amazing!)<br/>-curry chicken<br/>- beef rendang<br/>-coffee pork ribs<br/>-roti<br/>Also good is the laksa and butter prawns<br/>Thank god for KKS

Had lunch today, the food was great and served quite quickly although quite a time difference between the two dishes served, <br/>I have been meaning to visit this place for at least the last 5 years but it was always packed that is perhaps why the whole place is shabby. time for a face lift but wouldn't stop me going there again as the food really was good well worth the $12 per dish.

I am a Malaysian and I know whats nice and not nice when I am dining in Malaysian restaurant. I have been dining here for 5 years now. Unfortunately the standard of this restaurant has deteriorated. I must say the attitude of the waiters or waitresses is what you expect in any famous restaurants in Malaysia. Hence no surprise. Would I dine in KK again? Yes if my friends invited me to go.
Kelly Wu
Overall it is over rated as a famous Malaysian food restaurant. The waiter was not so friendly, the atmosphere is always noisy, small tables you have to squeeze in, the food we had was lower than we expected perhaps we set our expectation too high.
DillyDallyEllie
Went for lunch with my friendļ¼Œwe ordered sambal chicken on rice and malay fried rice for takeaway and it was inedible. Very bony chicken pieces with little meat, heavily coated with flour and deep fried. Totally not worthy for 12 dollars. It was such a big mistake we didn't go to KFC and chose this restaurant.

Visited KK Malaysian Restaurant a month ago (actually my third visit) and I highly recommend this place. Delicious Malaysian food cooked perfectly well. Friendly and wonderful staff (and done a great job listening to customers who have food and MSG allergies by ensuring orders are free from those unwanted additions that would turn post-meal times a headache or heartache). Would love to come back again next time

Lots of my friends told me this restaurant, me and my partner went there. I only can say, it was a average.
Ross
We go here quite a bit and always enjoy it. Great food in a busy authentic restaurant. Try the assam fish as it is the best around. The mains are huge and you don't need one each unless you want to take food home with you.<br/><br/>It pays to ring ahead and book as it is always busy.<br/><br/>If you want a quiet, classy dinner then go somewhere else.

Just had lunch at KK's, it was really great, there was a really cool buzz, prompt efficient service. The only thing that spoilt our meal was there was this really annoying guy complaining at the next table that he had to pay $1 for tea, unbelievable! He was a tall bald guy with glasses. Why do these people eat out, they should stay at home! Overall a really nice lunch, thanks KK's.

Visited for Lunch with a team, the worst service ever received in restaurant!<br/>Not a word you can understand from waiters, squeezed 10 of us on 1 table, where got the food wrong, sticky tables and chairs, no apology, deceivingly charged for Tea (usually included in your meal), and replied to the objection was...WHATEVER.<br/>Do not ever go there!!! Feel like exploited even though we spent over $200 in less than an hour!

Dinner for 10!! Food is delicious!!! Prices affordable!!! Highly recommend KK Malaysia, ordered a variety of dishes from Pork, Fish, Chicken, Hokkien Noodles to Prawns, authentic flavours, each dish tasty!!!!! Heads up on the non english speaking waiting staff, the plastic cups etc etc, but hey with the food so tasty who cares!!!!
Ella
Food: Pretty good, one of the more authentic places, and they have a lot of tasty dishes! I really like the food here.<br/><br/>Atmosphere: None, it's a very small place that is always busy.<br/><br/>Service: Since it is always busy, service tends to be slow and very to the point.<br/><br/>Price: Price point is at an average range, the sizes of the servings are according to the price.<br/><br/>Conclusion: Despite the lack of atmosphere and service, the food is pretty darn good, definitely love a lot of their dishes, I'd recommend the place but warn people of the setting and service (food makes up for it though, in my books anyway).

I have very mixed feelings about this place. Every time I have been with just one other person the food has been great. However, recently I booked a table for 9 of us and the service was atrocious, the food was inedible and I don't think I can bring myself to go back! <br/><br/>With such a large group I thought they would treat us the same as any other table, or maybe even better since we would be bringing in so much money for them, but I was wrong! They ignored us, and when we asked them to take our order they wouldn't. I took well over half an hour for them to take our order, and when the food came out that took forever too! Not to mention the fact that they got our order wrong and would not change it! The food was certainly NOT up to standard! Their signature entree (deep fried tofu with cucumber, peanuts and sweet chili sauce) was soggy and wet. I was not good at all.<br/><br/>I am very disappointed that this once fabulous place has turned into such a dreadful place to eat. To top it all off, it doesn't come cheap!

- Wonderful authentic Malaysian food<br/><br/>- Generous Serves<br/><br/>- Good value for money for a cheap meal.<br/><br/>KKs is a small, budget Malaysian restaurant. The food is superb!! reason why its always busy. The only thing you have to be aware is their green tea. They offer you green tea but they dont tell you that you have to pay for it.. You just get a shock when you arrive at the counter to pay for your meal plus the 5 pots of green tea you've had :)<br/><br/>Parking - There's always parking on the side street whenever we've come here.<br/><br/>Takeaways - We've done takeaways and its really good too.

Very nice food. Always busy so the service is just average.
R K Ariff
the service here is sooooooo bad! we reserved a table of 8 and got there 5 minutes before our reservation and the table was given to ssomebody else! When I confronted the 'manager', not only was she rude and arrogant but also insisted that we got there too early??????<br/>We were there a few months prior to this visit and found the food was quite good (but the service then was average) and thought we would try again....I would never step foot in this place ever again!
MNL
Super delicious , cheap and generous helpings. Fantastic. Only downsides it can get really busy and service can be a bit trying, there also isn't really 'decor' so to speak. But the food is amazing, tasty and fresh. Have subsequently been back many times. Very good.

Went for dinner last Thursday. Most of the food we ordered was great - however the atmosphere of the place was lacking. I thoroughly enjoy Canton Cafe, which has the same bland setting but this place seemed less relaxed. Plus the we sat right next to the door which was wide open and cold. <br/>Next time ill just get takeaways
Rosie
Tried this place due to good reviews but sorry to say the mee goring wasn't very good and I have tried this dish in dozens of food courts and restaurants in Auckland. It was actually quite sloppy and had no flavour that stood out.<br/>My b/f had the cha kway teo which all the noodles were broken up in small pieces and stuck together. Maybe we just went on a bad day
Jessica
mmmmm mamee chicken!<br/>(the four stars is compared to malaysian food in malaysia)

KK remains one of my favourite restaurants. Food quality is consistently high. Their Mee Goreng is to die for! Also love their Hainanese Chicken on rice. Service is great and unpretentious. It has always been enjoyable dining at KK.
James Schoning
Only thing I'd add is that the portions are really generous. Bring an appetite or failing that a Big Doggie!
Scott
We tried this place because it always, I mean ALWAYS looks full from the street so we thought it was worth a try. Such a pleasant surprise. The place is tiny with half the seating outdoors but the food is excellent and the staff do a great job of keeping track of each customer despite the chaotic feel of the place. Next best thing to living in KL.

....and the still reigning nz heavyweight champion has gotta be KK for Malaysian dining.<br/>Best Creamy chicken Laksa<br/>Best Nasi Lemak with blue rice<br/>Best Ling Collar Noodle soup<br/>Best Deep Fired Tofu<br/>Best waitress under pressure (cute too)<br/>Best food presentation<br/>Worst for finding car parking on weekends<br/>Worst best kept secret!

The best malaysian we've had.<br/><br/><br/>----- 01 Sep, 2009 -----<br/><br/>Best malaysian food we've had. Just hard to get in sometimes if it's full (which is always is!).
RR
great food..dint miss butter chicken.<br/>one of the best butter chicken in entire new Zealand.
Amy
Delicious authentic Malaysian food. Atmosphere is bustling, although it does feel a little grimy (they still have an A rating). BUT the food is really amazing. Had the Deep Fried Tofu which was served with shredded cucumber and onion and drizzled with Sweet Chilli Sauce and crushed peanuts. Tofu melted in your mouth. And spring rolls are best I've tried. Not greasy at all, and delicious. Mains were just as good.
Mark
if you want real malaysian food, this is a restaurant to go. price is reasonable.
Tom
kk's has a awesome environment and the food is the best Ive ever had never go any were else seriously recommend it you wont be disappointed.

By far the best malaysian food in town.Ā <br/><br/>They make it to your taste, but authenticity stays. Portions are large - and super yummy. Totally worth the wait, and the money..

KK is very Malaysian in every way possible. Its ambience, the staff (talkative Malaysian Uncle for example), the service (needing to keep catching the staff's attention to get served) and definitely the food. Go in big groups for dinner as KK's dishes are LARGE! It's best to try a bit of everything by ordering 3-4 dishes for around 6 people. Rice is also refillable here! They have beautiful poached chicken, comes with blanched beansprouts, soy sesame oil and the legendary garlicky chili. Their KK chicken--deep fried chicken pieces--is legendary; it's crunchy and juicy, savory and spiced in every single way. Try the Malaysian tofu as entree too.<br/><br/>A bit of a downer, on my recent visit I had to wait 40+ minutes for my lunch; I suspect this is a waiter's error as people who came after us had already gotten their food and left by the time my food arrives on the table. <br/><br/>It's always packed though, so it's best to call for a booking, especially if you're planning to come at dinnertime or be prepared to wait for a table. Their lunch menu is good and cheap too, also comes with huge portion.

A few minutes up the road from me is KK Malaysian. Whenever you drive past KK's it is packed and even in Winter people will be feasting on spicy Malaysian delights at the outside tables, despite the cold. There will likely be people waiting too.<br/><br/>To kick things off we had KK Spring Rolls, homemade and vegetarian. They were light, crisp tasty morsels dunked in the sweet chilli sauce. Alongside these the Deep Fried Tofu, served with julienne onion, cucumber, wok roasted grated peanut and sweet chilli sauce. A couple at the table were confirmed tofu fans and the rest of us were persuaded to try it. I have never had tofu as I really just don't get the point of it, but I was willing to give it a go. The dish was very good, the sharp onion, fresh clean cucumbers, toasty peanuts and a sweet chilli hit all working wonderfully well together and definitely lifted the tofu. What can I say about tofu...I still really don't get the point of it. I can't really say I like or dislike it. <br/><br/>For the main event we ordered a veritable feast to be shared. This is the best way to go at KK's as it is highly likely you will want to eat everything. From a previous visit I recalled the KK Special chicken and it didn't disappoint. Marinated chicken is twice cooked - deep fried and stir fried with garlic, onions, birds eye chillies, spring onion and a little salt. These are sweet, hot, succulent and terribly moreish. Polishing off a whole plateful would not be a problem.<br/><br/>To cover of the curry we had Beef Rendang was fragrant and aromatic with just a little heat and topped with toasted coconut. Also on the table were ribs. We were going to go with the KK Special ribs which like the chicken I am sure would have been quite delectable, but we were persuaded to branch out and try something different and plumped for the Coffee Ribs. Tender pork coasted in a coffee infused marinade and topped with sesame seeds. The pork was incredibly tender and there was the quite subtle hint of coffee.<br/><br/>We also sampled some noodles, Fried Kuey Teow. They were fried flat rice noodles with dark soy sauce with bean sprout, chicken and seafood, satisfying and really quite moreish. For a vegetable dish we had the eggplant with chicken, shrimp and spices. Full of flavour and a new way with eggplant for me. However, the other stand out of the evening was the Lak Zhi Fish. Whole snapper with a tomato based sauce with fresh chilli and ginger topped with spring onion and coriander. The sauce was so full of flavour, fragrant and it had the whole hot sour and sweet thing going on. It was incredible...what I would give for the recipe to that sauce.<br/><br/>And all up, for what can only be described as a feast,$21 each! An absolute bargain for what was totally delicious, yes delicious! Full of flavour, aromatic, sweet, hot, sour and a little spicy...perfect fto warm and nourish the soul.

Tried this place one Saturday night with a group of 12 people so got to try a lot of dishes.<br/><br/>Must haves - sambal chicken, butter prawns, laksa and the roti<br/><br/>Avoid the mi goreng and fried rice. <br/><br/>Also make sure to have a reservation or be ready to wait out for a long time
Kristy Sorrell
The dinner started a bit slowly. 4 of us had booked, and 5 arrived, which was no problem because there was a huge table being cleared. We did have a few minutes of waiting in the cold, though. It took quite a while for anyone to take our order, and then it took quite a while for any food to arrive. One lovely waitress did however fill up our glasses by hand, since there were no more water bottles available! Every dish carried past our table looked delicious and we were starving by the time our dishes appeared. I had the mummy pork ribs- somewhat like Vietnamese caramelised pork but with more sweetness than saltiness. There was a much stronger burnt-sugar taste to them than I'd expected, and we decided they also tasted slightly like vegemite. The pieces were, however, deboned which was a nice surprise, and overall quite tasty. The KK chicken, with a garnish of fried curry leaves, was fantastic and quickly disappeared. The laksa, shared by two, was more than big enough to share- there must have been well over two litres of it! That, too, tasted incredible. A beer ordered at the start, however, didn't appear until three quarters of the way through the meal when the waiter was reminded. Despite what seemed to be inefficient service, the food coming out of that kitchen is inexpensive, interesting and well worth going back for.

There are lots of malysian cuisine in town, hard to say which one is better as we are not born in malaysia, but KK is for sure a good choice if you are around greenlane. My wife and her uncle like it very much, so we visit it lots of times, not bit space, you sometimes you need to eat in the outside area, so book early!<br/><br/>We usually order deep fry tofu, it's very tasty and refreshing, just a good start. For the main , I like curry chicken, KK RIB, curry fish, beef rendang, the curry leaves on top just make the dishes so tasty and different , it's good to try.

Excellent Malaysian food! <br/><br/>Try their Sambal Chicken and Chilli Prawns - if you like spicy food, then these two dishes are my top picks! The portions are big enough for two people to share. <br/><br/>KKs is always packed with people and have limited seating, but its worth the wait! They do not offer any private parking, but the area has ample off-street parking available.
