I have been to a few of Aucklands little Malaysian food places and to date this is probably the best in terms of authentic and delicious. I seldom use that word - 'delicious' in a review but this was good quality Malaysian cuisine.
What I liked:
1. We only ordered 3 dishes - the beef rendang, the sambal kang kong and the chicken curry.
2. All three dishes were excellent. Rendang could have been in chunkier pieces rather than slices but each dish offered up excellent flavour, good portion size and if we were any hungrier that day we would have asked for another few bowls of rice to just absorb all the saucy goodness in each dish. Instead, we packed back all the leftovers and faithfully had them the next day -- it was that yummy.
3. As the other reviews point out - you don't come here for the ambience - its the great food. It would have been great if the owners dished out desserts like ice caching, pulot hitam and chendol as I would have loved to see and taste the quality which I am sure would have been noteworthy.
All said, am definitely coming back for more and a chance to try the other dishes.
Ordered takeaway this time. Very yummy.
Will visit in store and try more dishes if have chance.
Great food with amazing service. The Malaysian roti and curry was out of this world.

It is true when they say sometimes the best doesn't need to come from a fancy restaurant. You can beat standard and quality of food with anything else. KK Malaysian Cuisine is one of the pioneers of Malaysian restaurants in New Zealand and what I love about them is not only their quality of food but also the consistency. You can expect the same standard even after 10 years. Butter Prawns were to die for with that buttery yolk coating. Beef Rendang is the best I've had with the melt in your mouth beef. Mee Goreng is no doubt the most authentic I've ever tasted out of all the Malaysian restaurants I've been. If you are after a faultless Malaysian dining experience all round including service and food, these guys know what they're doing.

Amazing Malaysian Restaurant in Epsom!
Their cereal prawns are the best in Auckland apparently, so I had to try. Though the portion was small for the price it was quite decent, full of flavour and wonderful texture.
We visited at odd hour (3pm ish) and so glad the kitchen was still opened. Ordered KK Chicken which was absolutely fresh, juicy and crunchy. Highly recommended. The Beef Rendang was a let down. Very bland and the beef was thinly sliced. Will we were aware that this was a pre-cooked dish, it should have came out heated well but unfortunately not. Was a bit watery and not ‘lemak’ (thick & delicious). Disappointed. Still giving this visit a 4 rating for the fresh bowl of rice (heaped) and yummy KK Chicken.
If you're looking for a solid Malaysian spot you cannot go wrong with KK's. Their beef rendang here is amazing as well as their sambal chicken and KK special chicken.
Have been coming here for years, the family loves this place! Very authentic Malaysian food!
Amazing selection, authentic and large portions. I came here on Valentine's day with friends and although it was super busy and it was abit of a wait the staff handled it well, they were attentive and made sure we got our food.
I got the laksa and it was delicious, I highly recommend if you're in the area and feel like some true malaysian cusine!
Visited this place many times, both the food and customer service was real great, the prices set for the menus are reasonable too, will definitely eat at this place again for many more times and also recommend to others.
Delicious, big dishes of authentic Malaysian flavours! Get the cereal eggplants 😋 and the famous Hainanese chicken rice. Quite a small restaurant with not too many tables, so best to book!
It's a lovely Malaysian shop, pet-friendly as it has an partlycovered outdoor portion. Very genuine, with a rather mixed clientele. I noticed several regulars are having fish head rice noodles, the portion is so substantial, it can feed at least two. I ordered Mummy Chicken, it's an unusual item, one which I have not seen on other M'sian store. Basically sugar-fried, sprinkled with white sesame, thus a striking black-and-white contrast. The caramelized chicken tastes slightly sweet with sesame aroma, is that Mummy's cooking? I am enchanted, albeit not my memory of home cooking. A lovely experience for me.
Had seafood laksa ($21?) and a large char kuay teow ($26.50?) and a tea. All yummy as as a Singaporean and really good portion, but I must say mama kopitiam is still my favourite laksa. Ambience is a bit dull and old but clean enough. Kudos to the non Asian waiter as it looked like he was also cooking these excellent meals!
The food was good and the quantity was reasonable. The only issue was the place. The place is a tight fit between tables. If you are doing a takeaway, the place is not an issue and recommended.
The spice level is less. Spicy food was just fine compared to an Indian medium spicy
I came in with my family last night with low expectations, left with full bellies and lots of leftovers.
Arrived to see a run-down looking restaurant in a separate room from the kitchen area, which seemed a bit odd. Soft drinks came out in cans when most places would pour it into a glass with ice, but this is a non-issue. Spring rolls were piping hot and delicious. Mains were massive portions with nice strong flavours but they all came out at very different times, so we had to wait. Decorations were nice, but unfortunately, they couldn't distract from the cheap feel of the place, especially when prices were anything but. Staff here are amazing however, very welcoming and made me enjoy being here.
Overall, this place probably just needs a good redesign to make it feel less dark and claustrophobic. Will probably return for more spring rolls!
Good food. We ordered quite a few dishes for pickup/takeaway for a family gathering and everything was cooked on time. The food was good and they had decet portions. The standouts were their nasi lemak rice - very flavourful, they nailed it and KK Special fried chicken and pork ribs - delicious, would make for good drinking food. The only dish that didn't quite live up to the others was the beef rendang, it still tasted alright but lacked the usual richness and they don't use beef cubes so was a little wierd for me. Personally, I'd take it off the menu and keep working in it in the background. The spice levels were surprisingly low but it'll be to cater for local palettes. You can buy chopped chillies and their sambal which was very good.
Still a great Malaysian restaurant in my opinion. The food is authentic (albeit usually lacking a tad bit of spiciness) and the portions are usually quite generous.
Am a fan of their soup noodle dishes (Seafood Laksa comes to mind).
Celebrated a birthday treat here with brunch. Have been here before and their menu cuisine has a great selection as our table quickly became a feast. Can't pinpoint a favourite dish, its all yummy! It pays to buy a section when you're in a group so its easy to try the different selections and you can takeaway after which is great for after snacks when you get home.
Amazing food! Classic Malaysian food in Auckland, can’t recommend enough. Every time we come to Auckland, we come here. The owner is amazing and consistently shows how much he cares about the restaurant. Staff are all friendly and definitely cheap enough. Would recommend!!
busy all night, fun out of table from 6pm on friday. so we didn't wait a table on first coming. then we came earlier on the second day.
Food r absolutely worth the price, huge portion, authentic taste, friendly staff. steamed chicken is tender and juicy, mee goreng is the classic malay fried noodle, so good.
