Review Fort Greene - Auckland Central

Isabella Kim
The cafe had a really nice atmosphere! Tried the almond croissant after hearing good things about it. It was a good almond croissant but it was slightly underwhelming - it had this subtle aftertaste that I did not really like. I wish they had other pastries and that the pastries were presented well with prices. The almond croissant was $8.50.

Fort Greene is a hidden gem that deserves five stars! The bakery exudes coziness with its warm atmosphere, creating the perfect setting for a delightful experience. The flat whites and croissants are simply superb, a testament to their commitment to quality. The staff's friendliness adds an extra layer of charm to the visit. While finding parking proved a bit challenging, the overall experience at Fort Greene makes it a must-visit spot for coffee and pastry enthusiasts alike!

OMELETTE & PLAIN CROSSAINT - Recommended dishes here. The omelette is delicious, with the egg always cooked to perfection (not over cooked, yet a little soft inside) and the miso butter compliments it so well with it's salty miso smooth taste. The plain Crossaint is one of my favourites in Auckland. Crunchy on the outside, yet so buttery soft inside. When you time it well to when it freshly comes out, the steam from the Crossaint and the crunchiness is next level. Staff are always friendly and serves with a smile. The coffee they use is People's coffee, which reminds me of Wellington alot and is just delicious! Highly recommend this place!

Edit: Husband drove me around the city and the suburbs to check out the trending patisseries. I think this place is mostly listed as a sandwich/brunch place (i also don’t know if it’s trending) but it has the best pain au chocolat and croissants in Auckland. Staff are always nice and friendly and interior is cozy. While I haven’t tried everything, the sandwiches I’ve had are pretty good. They have a small menu which usually means they take quality seriously. Coffee is good (very important!). Been 3x this trip (despite staying in a hotel a bit far from KRoad) and every occasion was a delight. Old review: So far the best pastry I’ve had in AKL. Friendly server. We ordered take away. Will try eating in next time.

We ended up ordering takeaway, but these were some of the best croissants we’ve ever had. The flat white and hot chocolate paired perfectly with them and the view of Auckland from Mount Eden! Would love to come back next time I’m in the city.

Great bakery and coffee shop, in iconic K'rd. Beautiful Brisket Reuben Sandwich.

The best scrambled eggs of my life (I had the breakfast crossaint) and a really decent coffee. Loved the hot sauce made in house, which you can by bottles of. The whole time we were here, loads of people visited for takeaway coffee and baked goods so clearly a popular place with locals!

Visited on Sunday after lunch for a coffee and something sweet. First time here, really friendly and welcoming service. Lattes were great as were the croissants. Nice vibe and relaxed ambiance, will definitely return to try some of their famous sandwiches.

Great food and coffee. Wonderfully friendly service. I had the kimchi (homemade) grilled cheese sandwich. Excellent and flavorful. Great cup of cappuccino too!

Amazing fresh baking that’s definitely worth the walk! Staff might not be the friendliest but they’re so busy working flat out that it’s a good trade off for speed and quality 👍 highly recommend the cardamom bun 😋

Amazing coffee and croissants! We had a chocolate and an almond, they really are the best I’ve had in Auckland.
My only complaint is that the service wasn’t great, the woman who served us seemed a bit distracted, and very busy. It would have been nice to see more staff on to help.

.
📍 Fort Greene
☕ Flat White
🍴Cinnamon Cruffin + Almond Croissant
-----------------------------
Almost forgot to take photos as we enjoyed the comfort of cozy, timber interior all the while indulging in freshly made cinnamon cruffin and almond croissant between sips of perfectly brewed Peoples coffee.
Not even going to try explaining how much we loved every bite of their cabinet range; wont do them any justice.
P.S before we even got to doing this post, we went back for their epic sandwiches😍

The food here is amazing.. Simple menu but packs a punch. I love the sourdough here. Watching the Baker shaping the loaf is amazing. The taste is on point and their croissant is probably the best in Auckland comparing it to top bakeries in Auckland yes even amano. Coffee is good and hot x bun is better than ima cuisine.. Only thing is the lady serving us at the cashier can be friendlier and warmer. Other than that no complains ❤️

The BEST almond croissants that I’ve ever had and they’re even way better than the ones that I had in whole France. So crispy, buttery and flakey with amazing doughiness!! The vege sandwich was tasty as well. First bite kinda lacked flavour but after you tasted the filling inside it’s lit. Highly recommended this lovely cafe and it will definitely be my regular spot for brunch:) btw their sourdoughs were heaven!!

Didn't get to try the coffee because the server came out to shoo my dog away that was tied to the the handle of your open front door. You shouldn't call yourselves pet friendly and not have a place to tie up a dog, no water bowl and staff that over react to a (controlled) dog that is having a sniff around, as they do. Went elsewhere and had a fantastic experience. Thank you for helping me find another place which I know will become a regular for me now :)

We planned to try almond croissants @fortgreenenz but they all sold out when I arrived ( around 12pm) 😔😔😔 But that’s fine, I was still so happy about my plain croissant 🥐 ~ and it’s a really nice shaped croissant ~ It’s crunchy outside and had soft, moist layers inside ~ And that pistachio roll was also amazing. Good amount of chopped pistachios and honey glazed outside was crunchy and sweet😋. Hot sandwiches are must-try there. So I had grilled cheese one and that’s cheesy, oily, creamy, crunchy ~ love it!

Fort greene has the most beautiful store front but its never been open while i walked past. Ive seen the bakers prepping many times and the bread has always looked the part.

Tried the meatball sandwich which was stunning such a good marinara flavour and excellent meatballs. Topped this up with the chilli sauce they make and its superb.

The cabinet is also amazing first time i have seen Almond pain au chocolate. Instant buy. One of the best pastries i have ever had

I love the baguette there. The sour dough is quite perfect for me. It is so good to have it with jam. The price is average based on they use real ingredients.

BEST ALMOND CROISSANT IVE EVER HAD! A solid 10/10. The plain croissant was nice to. Already planning my next visit to have the almond croissant again and probably try something else as well.

Food 10/10 Service 9/10 Ambience 9/10

Croissant was underbaked feels like it has been left to sit on the bench for too long making the layers stick together. The chips were okay nothing really special other than the fact they were made from Yuka flour. The pastrami sandwich was good but a little too salty even for me. The coffees were another low point where the coffee kinda tasted like mud+coffee together which was really bad. Hopefully there will be other chances to review my scoring of this place.

Had a stroll around K Rd before deciding to come here for lunch. They are a bakery that also serves food. Most of their items are sandwiches.

I had the toasted cheese and a friend had the vege one. I personally found the taste of blue cheese to be a bit overwhelming for the toasted cheese. The pickles were really nice with it too. The vege sandwich was huge and very delicious. The veges and nuts inside the sandwich was tasty and filling. My favourite was the cassava chips though. Crispy on the outside and almost chewy on the inside and served with a spicy mayo. It was a nice side to go with the sandwiches.

A really nice place particularly if you are a sandwich person. Nice selection of filling and it was all very tasty.

The food at this place is just amazing. We had hot cross buns and croissant. Believe me when I tell you, this place has categorically the best croissant I've ever had in my life.

I forgot to take a picture of the croissant but will do so, the next time I go there (which will be soon).

The coffee is 'Peoples' so, naturally tasted quite good but you have to try the food of this place.

One of the best sandwich places I have been too! There menu is only small but that’s because what they have on it, they do well. I went here with couple of friends and had that grilled cheese sandwich (this came on sourdough bread with 4 types of cheese and pickles and cabbage, this just delicious! We also had sandwich aon sourdough bread with ricotta and beetroot purée, and another was a Reuben sandwich(meat) which I was told was also delicious! Their fruit juice and coffee is also amazing, would recommend this place to anyone, definitely going back again!

My partner and I came here for a late lunch and tried the Lamb and Reuben. I especially enjoyed the Reuben. Both sandwiches were quite defined in their flavours and they were so filling(although they looked small) there was no need for dinner later on.

Hands down one of the best sandwhich places I've been to in Auckland. Everything is made fresh and tasty. Don't be disappointed by the size of the sandwhichs they are super filling! I had the fish one on recommendation from friends and it was just so so good. The mashed peas accompanying the smoked fish was a lovely combination and the bread was toasted just right. Definitely pricy for a sandwhich but totally worth it.

Had the best day. Went for a thrift and then realized we needed a pick me up. Being on krd has a lot of perks, we went to visit a friend at fort Greene a friend I worked with a while back.

Man can I just say this place is worth a 5 service food coffee was all amazing. He makes everything in house, including hot sauce and breads too.

We started with a couple coffees to start with and then followed by deep fried pickles with aioli and cassava chips with homemade tomato chutney with tiger beer to wash it down with. The experience was perfect, came to check on us to see if we were ok.

From start to finish it was a delight experience. If you have not been there I suggest you get your butt there and sample the food. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!

I came here on a recent Saturday morning. It's inside St Kevin's Arcade and while the arcade itself has a few acoustic problems, this little cafe is a quiet oasis. I ordered one of their one-off specials - buttermilk pancakes with whipped ricotta and poached tamarillo. OMG, so delicious, every mouthful! I followed up by recreating this at home a few days later, the poached tamarillo in a sweetened red wine sauce is just wonderful.
Anyway the coffee here is great, there is a mezzanine with extra table space that you can't see till you enter the cafe. The couple that run the cafe are friendly, their young daughter was there, planning a cupcake birthday cake which gave the place a true family atmosphere.

Great place even though it is small. A couple who own this are amazing with attentive service with amazing coffee. Very welcoming and great food. Will be back for sure that has great all round package to offer patrons.

Very good service and coffee. Loved the coffee I had. I had the mocha while my friends had cappuccino and piccolo and we all loved our coffees. Will come back definitely.

came in here yesterday to order a coffee and whilst the decor was absolutely stunning, the service how ever, was not. whilst the lady serving me wasn't rude, it seemed as though she was incredibly removed and almost treated me as though i had 'turned up uninvited' if that makes any sense? the coffee came quickly but was honestly the WORST coffee i have ever bought!! for $6 (!!!) i was expecting A LOT more than a cup of slightly chocolatey, luke warm milk 😡 won't be back but glad i tried it so that more people won't make the same mistake!

One of my locals very hard to keep going back to a place where the front of house is not big on smiling also hard to support the coffee industry in general when you look at what dairy and the coffee bean plantations are doing to the environment..then throw into the mix one of the worst customer relations from peoples coffee their business model seems at odds with their service then I will not be spending one more of my dollars at this place. good luck on Krd which seems to have a different and better cafe every other week now..

Stumbled upon this cute little café when I was waiting for a job interview. I enjoy the atmosphere and the relaxed attitude. I was surprised when I was handed a hobo mug with my hot chocolate in it. It was refreshing to see a beverage served to you as would a friend in a home. The wait time is minimal too. I 100% recommend the home made cheese scones! If I had to be very picky about one aspect that slightly lacked, it would be service with a smile but everything else is fantastic!

Good coffee. I actually came out all the way for one reason which is to dine here and take photos for instagram and reviews because I was inspired by their neat set up - just as any foodie or food and lifestyle blogger/photographer would nowadays. However unfortunately was kinda guilt tripped as they were suspicious and thought I was trying to steal ideas. I have not encountered this before with other eateries. In fact, got asked this as I had just posted up the photo and tagged them, photo has since been removed. I doubt that someone trying to steal ideas would take photos of the same sandwich over and over again with their dslr - if I'm wrong, I apologise. No friendly smiles either. Felt quite awful and offended afterwards especially as was so looking forward to dine here earlier and when you're this passionate about food and promoting good eateries. Also not really a feeling you want after your dining experience.

Awesome bocadillos here.
This hidden little gem serves one of the best sandwiches in Auckland.
And when they do the burgers, they are a definite must have too.

On my favorite lunch spots list for sure.

Outstanding quality food! This guys have a very talented chef which makes magic with the sandwiches, I believe they could be the best in Auckland no doubt and they also have a pretty amazing coffee.

There have been a few cafes come & go from this spot and I have no doubt with the tiny kitchen that it's not an easy place to make work. Fort Greene do though. The sandwiches, albeit not cheap, are hearty, filling & tasty. In fact, they put so much in them that it's almost hard to take a bite. The menu is limited, and sometimes they don't have all of the options available, but if the Vege One is on offer I'd highly recommend it.

Oh. My. God. Go, don't think about it, just go. The coffee is People's Coffee, a local brand focusing on quality beans procured with a fair trade ethic. The coffee is spectacular. Today I had the breakfast taco which had beans, fried egg, chopped tomato and fresh guacamole topping with a generous amount of coriander. The tacos were fresh made on site and traditional style made with maize and as such, totally gluten free. IT WAS AMAZING, an almost transformative experience. The taco is a weekend offering and the perfect start to a busy Saturday. If I had had the time, I would have had a second, it was just that good. I can't wait to go back to try The Vege One sandwich and the grilled cheese as well. The business focuses strongly on locally and ethically sourced products, and as much made fresh themselves as possible - including ALL of the breads, the sauces, the marinades, even the butter! When every burger and breakfast joint under the sun is buying in their buns, breads and everything else, this commitment to quality is a breath of fresh air. A cut above food establishment with coffee to back up that promise. Cannot recommend it too highly for true food connoisseurs.

Had to go back because the coffee was SO GOOD and treat myself to a bag of the People's Coffee. Delish.

Popped in here for a break from work and tried the vegetarian sandwich. It was tasty and fresh and prettily packaged. But at $14, it was a bit pricey. There was nothing wow about the bread, tasted nearly identical to the pumpkin seed and chia loaf I get from the supermarket.

Walked into this tiny cafe without any expectations and was delighted to find that they have everything that I like: grilled cheese sandwich, Peoples Coffee and comics. The sandwich didn't dissapoint at all. The beautiful homemade artisan bread with four cheeses melted inside was heaven. Great coffee as expected. Can't wait to come back to try everything on their menu.

Was a pretty wet monday but went in i wanted a meat sandwich but there was only smoked fish or vege they were more than just that as a sandwich with great components to make them special!
They were really nice but for $14 dollars they should be the cassava chips where a nice change and done really well with the chipotle mayo

All hail the hipster gods! The Street Food Collective joins the bandwagon started across the road at P Central, with some funky 'high end' street food outlets of its own. I chose the smoked kawahai fish fingers with mushy peas and tartare and was blown away... Def put this on your bucket list of exquisite sandwicheries...! The whole sandwich felt fresh and homemade and with an awesome taste and flavour combination. Plenty of seating, friendly staff, hip surroundings, will be back for sure to try the other combinations!

If you are a gourmet sandwich lover This is THE PLACE ! 👍 They have a deli selection of sandwiches gourmet : Beef one, Pork One, Vegetarian one and Fish one. They made their own bread that makes a big the difference to the other's . My favourite was the Pork one but all of them are Yummy! 👅!! They homemade all the salsas try the Chipotle Salsa they sell there.. is incredible ..👍 with a smoky Chipotle flavour.
Have you try Cassava Chips ? Uff you going to love it! 😍
They share the space with others concepts but if you want to try something really good don't waste your time and go to Fort Greene. 😙 #EpicSandwich
