Review Grand Park Seafood Restaurant - Auckland Central

Yummy... the durian roll was so good...nice dessert!! I love the chicken feet yum. They gave free oranges. We paid 69$. The crispy pork is yum, crispy!!!
Christina
Had dinner and yum cha here a few times. Every time I've been here the experience has been wonderful. Nice music in background. Staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating if you have dietary issues. Food is nice and portion sizes are good. A bit on pricier side but would be a fantastic venue for celebrations.

Nice yum cha but not amazing. Roast Duck - Tasty Deep Fried Prawn - Citrusy Mayo Taste. I quite like it Glutinous Rice - Very filling but not enough flavour, only wrapped with some lean meat and yam. Prawn Dumpling and Siew Mai - Average good when eat it hot Pork ribs - fairly good but not amazing

It's always super busy for Yum Cha, no matter what day of the week. Be prepared to wait. However, dinner time has great ambience and you can reserve a private room also. Fresh live seafood, ask for the price and weight. Excellent service and food came out promptly

Highly recommended by friends. Came before 11am so don’t need to wait. But when I left, there were quite lots of people waiting. It’s very nice place for friends and family catch up, just take time to enjoy the food. Food are tasty and probably better than some restaurants in Southern China. Good customer service but everyone is so busy. Will revisit again.

A very busy place, crowded. We came as a group. Food is appetising and fresh, dinner was great. Quick serving the dishes like they shoved it on the table. I would say one of the good chinese restaurants in Auckland.

Great for yum cha, super consistent. Classic, quality dim sum and solid selection. Best to go early or book ahead to avoid long waits. Har gow, siu mai, and egg tarts all very good.

ok it's my first yum cha here in NZ but damn this is great till now I'm craving for those crispy pork ribs siomai and buns make sure you take you time and don't just let the ladies give you the dishes choose well we found out we wanted the later dishes but nonetheless I can't wait to go back would be good to view their menu which is in the table to get familiarise with the dishes in the trolleys

We had a birthday get together and it was a wonderful experience. The yum cha was scrumptious and flow was good. The young man who brought us candles and a lighter for the birthday cake deserves special mention for completing the great experience.

My usual dimsum spot. You may have to wait a little to get your table. Chicken wings are really good.
Bixu Liu
Had brunch with friends, food and service are all good but just too expensive 😞

Three people for lunch. Food was tasty, but the service is very Chinese with not a lot of explanation of the dishes. It does feel like they are pushing too hard at times to load your table up. Thought it was odd that you have to go to the bar to get your side dishes of sauce. The atmosphere is crammed with the tables very close.
Michelle
Food came out quickly and it's delicious. I liked their chili oil because it's actually a bit spicy, unlike other places. The older staff were a bit pushy with selling their dishes. We had our boys there, so they tried so hard to sell their desserts. Literally placing it on the table before we even said yes.

Came here on long weekend and it was mayhem. Waited 30 mins but expected and was well organized. Food came out quick and surprisingly the food was still hot/ warm. If you are looking for a decent yum cha place for family get together- this is the one.
S L
Price was $260 for 5 people. The place was very big and during peak times the yum cha carts will go around very frequently. The food was 4/5 but overall service and vibes make it 5/5

Loved it! Just like having yum cha in Guangzhou - the noise but tastier dim sum! I mean the noise and chitter chat are part of the experience! Probably have to queue for tables but it’s worth it.
Jen
Poor services from the young staff there. They are not willing to help at all. Even you booked for a table ahead, you still have to wait a long time before you can have a table as seems the receptionists know their usual customers and they allocate the available tables for their favourite customers first.
Auckland Foodie
Have been here a long long time ago. Portions in comparison to other yum cha is very small. Seating system is very strange. You come in, get given a number, then repeatedly observe people without numbers being seated ahead of you. We joked that they were probably part of the Chinese mafia. Average food and gaming of queue etiquette was poor form.
Eve Espino
What on earth is the point of booking a table and then having made to wait nearly 1 hour for that table?? There isn't a booking system at all. Jesus christ. You guys suck.
Street Food Fighter
It was delicious. But quite expensive.
Brandon Huang
Mhm, one of the better yum cha in Auckland. Portions are quite good, and food tends to be quite fresh. Today was a little disappointing with some of the buns being cold when they got to us, but overall the execution of the classic dim sum is good. <br/><br/>Nothing blows me away, but it’s consistently above average. Some favourites rated below!<br/><br/>Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice: 8/10<br/>Siumai: 8/10<br/>Spare ribs: 8/10<br/>Cheung fun: 6/10<br/>Chicken feet: 7/10<br/>Salted egg custard bun: 7/10

MANAGEMENT GET REVIEW YOUR BOOKING SYSTEM!! A very disappointing visit!! We called half an hour prior to arriving at restaurant and was advised they do not take bookings for 2 persons “just arrive there will be approximately 30-40mins wait. We arrived took our ‘booking ticket’. Waited patiently and after 30mins asked how long must we wait was told approximately another 15-30mins further. Attendant wasn’t really helpful and was only looking to place’ larger numbers’. Waiting again for a further 20 mins went up again and said how much longer she said there is another 9 bookings ahead. I then mentioned this is exactly what you told me a while ago, what is happening as being left standing for almost an hour is certainly not good enough. I even suggested that perhaps we could share a table , this didn’t happen as I don’t think they were trained to ‘think outside the square’. We left in the end disgruntled with the attitude – I’m sure other ‘would be diners’ have left as very unprofessional and I would guess the loss of trade?? Management step up to the ‘plate’!!

My wife discovered a sharp metal staple in her dumpling this afternoon. The wait staff seemed surprised that we wanted to speak to someone about it, and the manager's sole response was "Oh, that comes from the steam basket."<br/><br/>They didn't seem to understand that we were less concerned with the origin of the staple than where it was discovered.<br/><br/>No apology, no edit to the bill, no offer to remove or replace the three remaining dumplings, and absolutely no sense of concern that my wife found a staple in her mouth and could have been seriously injured. They removed the offending object from the table with surprising speed though.<br/><br/>We will not eat at Grand Park again, and given the condition of the steam baskets, which we were suddenly much more attuned to, and lack of staff concern, we'd recommend steering well clear of them.

Came here on Monday at around 1:30pm, quite difficult to find a place for parking because it was all full. I love yum cha a lot and I heard lots of +ve feedback about here so here I am!!!!<br/><br/>The food was amazing, better than many other yum cha places in Auckland. They use the traditional dim sum trolley and make you wanna eat more things. I’ll definitely be back but just wanna day that their service could be better. Including their attitudes and willingness to help. Maybe the staff had a bad day? Overall, it’s a good place for yum cha. 👍🏻
Pig Cat
Authentic taste of Cantonese style Dim Sum. Reasonable price and wide range selection of dim sum. Liked their noodle rolls and custard tards. <br/><br/>Cons: Difficult to find a car park.
Sarah Tran
Ideally the best place for family gathering/celebrations. Can fit for big groups so why would be bothered if you have a nuclear family or want to find places for work party. The food is still amazing tho it wasn’t as great as before. We start with the lotus soup, then mains’ve been served with a massive portions, lobster noodles need more flavour but fine in general. Roasted duck rolled with rice paper is fire. The fish is crispy pan fried. We finished our dinner with a big piece of taro cake for each. This place can’t be missed for a big celebration!
Jeannette Salim
This place was extremely busy, once you arrive a ticket is given to indicate your place in the queue. We came for lunch and waited for 40 minutes before being seated. The food was good, however it was more expensive than other yum char places.
Sei
This pl had a wonderful selection to choose from - the food just kept coming & coming - the staff suggested so Moana things to try which can be overwhelming but great at the same time especially if you are keen to try different things. This is 1 yum cha that is to be tried - highly recommend.
LilianMonaghan
Honestly the best Yamchar place in the whole AKL. Everything was so good. Price was a bit expensive compared to other Yamchar places. If it’s near city, I think I’ll probably visit here several times a week.
PJ Scott
Sorry, not impressed.  Maybe we arrived at a later time (about 1.15pm on a Thursday) but many of the hot dishes were cold and one of the dishes, not sure which one, left an unpleasant after-taste/coating in mouth that took hours to get over, probably the wrong type of cooking oil  ...  and at least 30% more expensive than better quality food elsewhere.  Table service was good and quite attentive, but someone was vacuuming while we were still eating :-)  Advertised hours were until 3pm so it wasn't closed.  What a shame, felt like I wasted a special opportunity for lunch on a day off.
Serena Low
Was expecting this to be the best yum cha I've ever had, with the almost 60min wait. We came here on a Sunday and literally had to wait almost 60 minutes to get a table since they don't take reservations, which equalled a hangry girl. For the amount of people dining, you'd think they'd have more carts offering food around but there were hardly any and we ended up ordering dishes directly (which takes away the fun of yum cha, if you ask me). Yes, the dishes were nice, but the service was lacking and did not justify such a long, uncomfortable wait.
Louis Yong
The staffs there have the worst attitude. Since they gave me the wrong order, I asked for a swap, then literally got growled. I’d understand if the restaurant is busy but it’s half empty. Not only that, The staffs talk shit about their customers in Cantonese/Mandarin. Besides, when we got our food, it was cold. There are many better and cheaper yum cha restaurants out there with better attitude. Don’t come here if you don’t want to ruin your day.
Hungry Teddy (20% Zomato Gold, Use : HUNG2716)
Best yumcha in Auckland so far. Decent selection and tasted very good. Price was more expensive than other yum cha place, but the quality was definitely better. Always crowded, so make sure to book beforehand.

BEST AKL DIMSUM. Loving that their chef are HK chefs, it really bring the authentic taste experience here.<br/>Loving every dishes from them, it’s so tasty, soy sauce would never be needed. Absolutely love their tauhuay (bean curd) the most
Chan Can Eat
One of my favourite yum Cha and Cantonese joints.<br/>Beware - if you’re not used to the busy yum Cha experience, you need to be prepared to take a number at the counter and wait.<br/>But I promise you it’s worth it!<br/>The dumplings here are delicious! And because it’s so busy, they usually always come out to your table piping hot.<br/><br/>The Chinese banquets for dinner are out of this world, if you’re lucky enough to experience banquet that is! Otherwise their “a la carte” menu is premo.<br/>I highly highly recommend the Peking duck.<br/>Nom

Came here for yum cha today and was absolutely shocked at the terrible service we received. <br/><br/>We were instructed by the carpark warden to park our car at the back of the building and enter through the back doors since they reserved the usual carparks at the front for those attending the event at ASB showground which they are also charging $10 for. <br/><br/>We entered the restaurant as instructed and none of the staff bothered to pay any attention to us and tell us where to wait so we asked one of the waiters for a table for 3. He directed us to an empty table where we sat down and was offered tea. Not long after we sat down a waitress came up to our table and asked us rudely who told us to sit here. We explained that one of the waiters offered us the table, but she made us get off that table and go back and queue at the front of the restaurant. I was shocked at the way we were spoken to and wanted to leave but had family members who were too tired to walk further so we chose to get a ticket and wait for our number to be called. <br/><br/>After we finally got a table and started eating we realised some of the dim sum were not only cold, the prawns tasted strongly of pepper powder and tofu was rubbery. One of the waitresses pushing the dim sum trolleys even refused to tell us what dim sums she had in her trolley and told us to look for ourselves! Ended up leaving still hungry due to the poor quality of food. <br/><br/>If they knew there were going to be different parking arrangements for their customers due to a nearby event then they should be expecting that people wont be coming through the usual way and told their staff to direct people to the front to queue up for a table which we would've happily done. Even if the staff had politely explained to us the misunderstanding due to them being more busy than usual and different carpark arrangements we would have understood. I don't understand why any of that rudeness was necessary. I have been here many times in the past and know their staff are rude but this is just next level. Also seems to be a lack of communication and organisation between the staff. <br/><br/>Very disappointed and horrible dining experience.

Honest review here! :) Busy esp at lunch so easier to get table if u share or have less people. Decent food - Prawn toast and pork siumai were the best in my opinion, yummy!! Good for one-off eat, but more of n the higher side, hence treat. I only realised the bill at the very end which came to $53.10 for just me (one person) lol. My best advice; Watch out for cost of the items you order!!! I ordered fried chicken or something thinking it wud be $9 or so ends up that was $16 coz it was a kitchen item. Lesson learnt! - please don't make the same mistake as me and read prices/keep track of ur tab and ticks on our order form. Here is a quick look at prices for general dim sum. Each circle bamboo thing contains about 4 pieces. Some bigger items and not have 3 pieces. Get some tea to keep ur appetite down whilst waiting for the trolleys :)

Been here 3 times recently, including yum cha today and dinner a few evenings ago. easily the better yum cha place around akl. downside is price is a bit expensive to go on regular basis.

I used to be a frequent customer of Grand Park and while their food is good, their service has never been the best. And this time they portrayed an unacceptable behaviour of dishonesty.<br/><br/>My colleagues and I decided to go yum cha at Grand Park. I am chinese and most of my colleagues are European. As soon as we sit down all of the employees forced dim sums onto our table without asking whether we want them or not.<br/><br/>The unforgiving part was when one of the employee ticked off "extra large" instead of "large" and then she turned to her colleague and said in chinese "Oh I wrote the wrong size but who cares they dont understand anyway". I understood what she said so I spoke up.<br/><br/>Instead of admitting to her mistake, she tried to convince us to order an "extra large" dim sum to compensate for her mistake instead of rectifying the error she made. I said no and she then decided to amend the change to the card.<br/><br/>Its only a small amount but dishonestly is not a trait you want to have in business and does not provide me with confidence to return again with my European friends.

I would say this is the BEST yum cha place in Auckland - it should’ve made it in that Urban List article last year 🤩<br/><br/>Dim sum, being one of my top comfort food types, rarely ever lets me down. The food here is really great. I don’t know what else to say about it. I find that I’ll eat whatever to be honest. If anything, I just enjoy the comfort and familiarity that dining here brings me. <br/><br/>It’s a decently nice place to dine at if you aren’t a complete banana like me :(( <br/><br/>Wait time is notoriously long. It has been for years now, they still haven’t been able to accomodate to the large crowds especially on weekends. If it weren’t for that I would’ve given them a full 5 stars. I’m actually not too sure whether or not making a booking will guarantee you a table?? Be prepared to wait a while, but it’s worth it!! 💛
Graeme
Super long waiting (almost an hour) and the time you’re allowed to spend eating is less than the time that you waited. Food was above average but a bit over priced.
XY Lin
It's the worst service I have ever experienced!food is average and so noisy I have no idea why they still have client !asked them for some hot water and the lady came and directly add the boiled water to the teapot without looking at the teapot !!unbelievable !
Annie Low
First time here on a Monday and we do not need to wait for a table. the food was not bad! I personally love their Siew mai so much and the yam dessert wrap with almond on top!! Yam dessert was so good, not many yumchar restaurant in Auckland serve this dessert! Make sure u try it out! Beef ball was legit too, better than the other places. However, the pork ribs was kinda bland, not salty enough. The filling inside the yam dumpling was below average .. grand harbour and sunword serve better “yam dumpling aka 芋角”! some foods were also not hot enjoying. The cashier at the reception was abrupt ... other staffs were pretty polite though
FoodieBeast
Good food. The wait can be a little long which can turn people off instantly.<br/><br/>The service is below average with more than half the staff not able to communicate in English.<br/><br/>Definitely a place I'd come back to however as it does have a good vibe in a good location.

I’ve been wanting to come here and finally i had sunday lunch in here. We were lucky that we came in early coz like after an hour the place was packed with hungry people! They have a lot of selection of foods. Though the disadvantage is that it took a little longer for the food trolley to come to other tables.
Enthous Foodist
One of my go to places for dim sum but it was always busy.<br/><br/>Went there last week and find that it isn’t the same as before. From dumpling to egg tarts, the taste was so different than before and it wasn’t better. Egg tarts used to be my must-have, but right now everything was so different that I suspect they probably have changed their chefs?<br/><br/>I only find the fried turnip cake the best and I probably need to start find a new yum cha replacement...

Coming here on a Sunday is a really bad idea. We got here and got a number, there were 6 of us. It took literally an hour to get a table. An hour. We could see large groups were leaving but 6 must have been an awkward number. They were either giving it to groups of 7 or 5 or they were asking if people wanted to merge tables. Food was good once we finally managed to get in. Classic southern Chinese yum cha food. Luckily the service was still pumping at 1pm. We got all the classics and in the end it was around $32 each. Pricier compared to other yum cha places.
LuNa The TuNa
Grandpark always quiet busy, but foods are better than other yumcha place in Auckland central. I like their mango and durian pancake which used fresh ingredients.
“Dailee” 25% Off Zomato Gold
Pretty decent yumchar/dimsum but it’s on the higher price bracket. Always so crowded so make sure you have bookings. Carpark hard to find on site. Fifteen of us on the table had to pay $50 pp because they asked whether we wanted to try their watermelon juice and since it was a super hot day, we thought, why not. Not knowing they would cost $40/1.5 litre jug, we ordered 6 jugs and lessons learnt. Make sure you ask how much things are before getting tempted like we do!! Service also not very good, waitress mostly grumpy and hard to summon. Their food taste is their only saving grace.
The Scarfoodie
Go to place for yumcha, price is average similar to most places (may be a little steeper) but the quality of the foods is up there and their range of foods is so vast! All the classics are served really well, these include chicken feet, pork spare ribs, beef ribs, and their range of various buns! <br/>They are also the only place that does durian dessert wraps with cream and they’re really delish! However I’ve noticed they’ve decreased the amount of filling and there’s noticeably less durian in them which is a huge disappointment! <br/>I’ve also noticed they’ve stopped serving taro with the pork spare ribs which is a bit of a bummer. <br/>Cons: always busy so there’s a bit of a wait. Sometimes you might need to share a table which may not be ideal. Noisy environment due to the business. (But the food is worth!)
Anons
Nice, authentic chinese yum char. The only downside is having to line up for 30mins-50 mins. I would def recommend this place to everyone!!!
Munchies
High end of the spectrum for yum cha when it comes to price and quality of the food. Can get super super busy so either book or be prepared to wait if you haven’t. <br/>Service of the staff can be a bit average at times with the language barrier but the food makes up for that. <br/>This is a very nice outlet to visit especially if its someone else’s shout. <br/>
LO
EXTREMELY BAD EXPERIENCE!!!!!! First of all, the food is below average, the long dough rice rolls and Portuguese egg tarts made us want to throw up and the Portuguese egg tarts are not the real ones, they try to use egg tarts to trick us as Portuguese egg tarts. I try to confirm with the waitress but she yelled at me, the service is the worst thing actually! All dishes are cold and not tasty, I am really disappointed! Besides, the price is not valuable, even I eat in CBD, I can get a good quality with this price. However, the durian pancakes are good. All in all, I don't think this is not the best place to yum cha, I would never go again!
Cloris
The food was average and nothing surprised but the service did 'surprise' me. This is the worst customer service I have ever seen. I sat down with no tableware for more than five minutes. I went there on weekdays and around 2 p.m, so it was not busy at all. Waiters and waitresses were wondering around each table and did nothing like visiting a shopping mall. I ordered four courses and only three were actually ordered(so like 75% chance you can order your food correctly.) I asked the manager what happened, and he looked pretty chill and did not even say sorry. <br/>I did not think it is service that they should provide for this price of dim sum. To be honest, I am very very disappointed. <br/>I do not understand why there were almost more servants than customers but they still could not provide 'normal' standard of service.
Lizzie
Really nice decor, large and light and many tables. Food came out quickly which was nice. The actual food however was average at best and I’m unsure that I will be back.
John Fán
Hands down best yum cha in Auckland!!<br/><br/>Great selection with amazing quality ingredients, and some of the best desserts you wont find at other places. The price is also not that bad compared to some places in the city.
Moli Nhem
Yum cha is always a fantastic experience. However grand park has ruin this experience for me and my family by giving us the crappy service. booked a table and was only give a table 30 minutes late. What's the point of booking? And staff are not friendly when enquiring about our table or when giving food. Disappointed

Came here for my birthday on Sunday. I called in the morning of to book a table in advance. Firstly, we came up to the person who handles the seatings so i told her we booked a table for 9 pax and said ok they will call out our number, despite booking in advance we still didnt get seated until 45 mins later. So we then got seated into a room that says “vip” so we were like ohh thats to make up with the wait. we sat down and this waiter was bringing in side plates, cups, and chopsticks - BUT WAS BANGING IT EVERYWHERE- which we found very rude. we then got the first cart and now this waitress was forcing us to get the dish of desserts because apparently its gonna run out despite saying no she still insisted on putting them on our table and signing it on the paper. We also asked for jugs of water to share between us instead we got 2 glasses of water to share between us. We ordered a big bowl of rice the first thing we sat down and that didnt come until everyone was done with their meal. many dimsums also didnt reach us as the location of the table was far off the route of the carts going around - SO WHY SEAT US THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE???!! <br/><br/>Although, with the TERRIBLE SERVICE, we still enjoyed the food despite missing out on other dimsums. Our bill ended up to be around $400.<br/><br/>PS. This wasn’t the first time we’ve been here.<br/>

Came here for yum cha with gf and bestie! I'm torn with how to review this place. Firstly the food was mostly good without being exceptional, although disappointingly the worst two dishes we got: turnip cake (very floury) and pork buns are the two I look forward to the most. So that was disappointing, however the crispy pork and century egg congee were very good (hope my friend isn't reading this...We promised him there was no century egg in the congee.....sorry Rob). I guess overall I would of rated the food at 3.5 stars, some good dishes, some average dishes and not particularly cheap. However the service was apalling. One of the waitresses was so rude it really spoilt the meal. Generally I don't need or expect waiters and waitresses to give exceptional service and "go the extra mile", just to be basically polite....However this minimal criteria unfortunately wasnt achieved hence the two star rating. We definitely won't be back and be heading to different yum cha places instead.
Emma
Really good yum cha place. The building is quite large and spacious (although the tables are quite crammed together). The decor is a bit nicer than your standard Chinese restaurant too. It has all your standard yum cha offering and everything I tried was good. Prices seem to be a bit higher than other places but not surprising given how this place tries to be a little bit more upmarket.
R Chan
Good food, classy, elegant... What more could you want? Highly recommended for birthdays and other celebrations.<br/><br/>I especially like the 8 treasures duck but if you are considering ordering it be warned.. you need to order at least 7 days in advance and it is pricey BUT WORTH IT!! It's also a whole duck so you need to have enough diners to be able to eat it.<br/><br/>Simply a nice classy place to have a good meal.
Sheena (Code SHEE7152H For Zomato Gold)
One of the best yum cha in Auckland. I feel like I was in China when we had our send-off celebration here. The staff are nice but the waiters are a bit pushy when it comes to offering — you order one and will put two on the table — so be firm when ordering. I will definitely come back.
Oceane
Edwin Gu
It becomes the only place I go for yam cha in Auckland even it always got heaps of people waiting in the lobby. Please note they don't take any bookings for a group of 2, so either being there before 11am or after 2:30pm, or you will wait at least for an hour. <br/><br/>Food is nice, otherwise I won't come back repeatedly and wait so long time again and again, ahha. Friendly staff for a busy yam cha restaurant but the restaurant is still overstaffed during lunch hours. Since they are super busy, we just get dipping sauce by our own.
Teri
Came here with colleagues for lunch. Booked a table, arrived on time and waited at the entrance for 10 mins for the waitress to take us to our reserved table. Had less than 45 mins for lunch. Didn't get the chance to finish the mango pancake as the cleaner just grab the dish without asking and put it straight into the bin. Got told to leave as we were overtime.<br/><br/>Food 4.5<br/>Service 2<br/>Ambience 4<br/><br/>Don't think I am keen to come back anytime soon even though the food was great.
Marcus Lau
Always crave for the dim sum (yum cha) here. The dim sums are really mouth watering and salivating.<br/><br/>In my personal view, the quality of the dim sum here is of high standard and I deem it the best in New Zealand. The only setback of this restaurant is that it is always packed with full load of diners during weekends, public and school holidays, where you may have to wait for at least 15 minutes or longer especially if you go with more than two persons. Best is to go on weekdays, if possible, not as crowded.<br/><br/>Despite this little setback, adventurous diners including me and my many friends are still willing to patiently wait in the queue, as the dim sums here are simply too inviting! If you are a dim sum lover, this is a place that you shouldn't miss!<br/><br/>Food & Beverage : 9/10<br/>Service : 7/10<br/>Price : 6/10<br/>Ambience. : 7/10<br/>

Many choices but honestly food is average. Been here for several times but I dont think I will come again any more. Waitress wrongly marked the ‘time limit’ as an hour and 45 minutes for us. We didn’t know we only have 45 minutes to finish our lunch. 45 minutes later, the staff kept coming to us telling we were supposed to leave. I know it is busy on Sunday, but the attitude towards us is totally not acceptable.
Rosanne Choy
Egg tart was flakey and the custard inside was creamy. Custard bun was soft and inside was really sweet. Steamed cantonese cake was spongey and moist. Prawn french toast was crispy and toast was crunchy. Tried Taro sago pudding tonight and it was absolutely delicious. The taro and the mango sago worked so well together. Strongly recommend others try it while it's hot.
Darren Big Belly
We love this place for the sizzling lamb and crayfish.<br/>It’s not so spacious for a big sized restaurant, so you may have to find your way through a maze of chairs. Yep, feel the charming vibe of a chinese restaurant.<br/>However, I have been coming here for years and it’s always been a decent experience. <br/><br/>This is the one of the only place that sells fresh watermelon juice during yumcha. 3/5 Taste<br/>3/5 Display <br/>2.5/5 Quantity <br/>0/5 Customer Service <br/><br/>Over popular Yum Cha restaurant in Epsom<br/><br/>First of all there was a huge wait. <br/>Which is totally fine on Sunday afternoon, some wait is expected right.<br/>We got seated after about 30min of waiting and it was right in the corner.<br/>I went with a friend who could not understand Chinese, I can only understand 1/1000 of the language myself, ordering things were a bit tricky. <br/>Staff members pushing the dish trolley did not speak single English, and when we requested some information about it they spoke in Chinese with little bit of english (chicken pork what you want).<br/>Worst of all as we started asking more questions they started avoiding us, as we were in the corner they just skipped us and went to next table. <br/>I mean food would have been better if we got what we wanted whenever we wanted, it felt like going to a fine dining restaurant getting the food served once every 20 minutes. <br/>I do not have alot of experience with YumCha and I wish I had gotten a better experience.<br/>They probably do not need any quality assurance as they are packed with Chinese customers everyday, I guess they don't even need to try hard. <br/>Its a pity to see these traditional Asian Restaurants not being able to provide the right service to foreigners, I'm sure others might have had better experiance, but it wasn't for us, I hope there will be a next time for better experience.

This restaurant is expensive, yet is a popular and exquisite yum char cuisine. Depending on the time and day, finding a table can be an obstacle. But it’s worth the wait as the dishes served here are delightful! There are plenty of options to choose from and staff regularly visit the tables. This place has really good service and I would recommend to eat here!

We’ve been coming here for years and lunch was always hectic and busy on a weekend. Even if you have a booking you still have to get a number and queue up and wait. It reminds me of playing Bingo when they call the number out loud. However, I consider them as one of the best yumchar in Auckland. The food is consistently good, the flow of food continuously roam around to tables, service was fast except for my watermelon drink that they have forgotten to serve. Some of the staff were friendly but some were not personable at all.

Came here for dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant was really quiet and only had 3 tables of customers, hence the food service was super fast but some waiters and waitresses were pretty rude in terms of their manners. <br/><br/>Although their yumcha is very delicious, the dinner experience wasn’t the same. The flavor of the dishes wasn’t quite same as I visited 2 years ago and the quality of each dish is just going down hill. However the Peiking duck has improved a lot in terms of crispness and flavor. Another dish that’s nice was the lemon flavored shrimp which had a sweet and sour taste and lemony taste to it. <br/><br/>The vegetables such as eggplants were a bit bitter as well and since there were 2 people who were vegetarians, they didn’t quite like the flavor of the dishes they could eat. <br/><br/>The bill came to about $230 which wasn’t really worth the experience. I’d only come for yumcha as I’d get a better experience.<br/><br/>Taste - 7/10<br/>Size - 8/10<br/>Service - 7/10<br/>Price - 6/10

We have been this restaurant many times mostly for dim<br/>sum. It was a big restaurant but very crowded for dim sum particularly during week ends. As its business was good, its foods were therefore fresh. Its presentation and taste of food were quite acceptable in a small city like Auckland. The tables were too close to each other and so it might not be as comfy as expected. Their food was more expensive than other restaurants in Auckland. They even charged $2-00 per head ( including young children under 2 and even if you brought your own preferred Chinese tea) for Chinese tea. The waiters and waitresses were friendly but might be too busy to be helpful. The counter staff were arrogant and impolite.

Booking! Booking! Booking! Go there early! There were so many people waiting outside around 11:30am when we finished the meal. Great atmosphere and efficient service. Great place to have some Yum Cha after seeing the lovely sleeps and cows at Cornwall park. 😜

Was told that we would wait ~15minutes, ended up waiting for hour and a half. Staff have no idea and not willing to help at all. Definitely not coming back again

I used to love their yumcha but since we had a dinner here for celebrating Chinese Lantern Festival I don’t feel like coming any more. Look at those pathetic salmon sashimi in the pic, huge difference between each slice and not fresh at all ! I think I can do the better slice than their chef! What’s worse it cost me $70 for this dish, are you kidding me??

Came here for lunch after hearing so much hype about their yum cha.<br/><br/>As the queue extended outside the resto, we waited for a good 30 minutes to be seated. The staff in charge of seating guests appeared really stressed out, and was sighing and frowning the whole time. She even shunned me when I tried to egg her on by saying that she was doing well.<br/><br/>Nonetheless, the bad experience ended when we got seated. Everything we had was delicious.<br/><br/>We paid $104.50 for two without drinks, which was a bit expensive for my standards.<br/><br/>For the long waiting time and subpar wait staff attitude, I would still choose Sun World or Imperial Palace over Grand Park.<br/><br/>

Had been a while since we'd been here and came here for yum cha on this occasion as was my other half's bosses treat for all his staff for the Chinese New Year. Otherwise we don't come much as it is we find a little on the expensive side. Anyway we were seated quickly as tables were reserved for the group. Can't complain about the service either as the trolleys came round a lot and a lot of the dishes would end up on the table. Nothing amiss with the food either ,it all cooked as should be. All in all, very good service and food. As for the price ....well can't comment on this occasion but have found it a little expensive in the past. Would recommend going for yum cha ( at least for once).

By far the best Yum Cha in Auckland!!!! Service is great. Most of them speak English and they are quick to bring food around. More on the pricier side but well worth it

Heard good things about this place,  went to dinner, and tried a selection of entrees<br/><br/>Hot and sour soup... hot but no sour, but nice enough.<br/>Wontons - Good<br/>Spring Rolls - Terrible,  dont know what was in them<br/>Dim Sum Siu Mai - these were good <br/>Wonton Soup, - wontons good but soup broth boring<br/>Salt and Pepper squid - this was good.<br/><br/>Overall service was good,  food was below average for what I expected.<br/>Was given  a plate of fresh ?  fruit afterwards which was a nice gesture. unfortunately neither of us could eat the apple  it tasted nothing of apple..  i never worked out what it tasted of, but it was dreadful.<br/>it is also very expensive.  A plate of green beans $30  is a bit steep for what you pay $10-$12 for else where.<br/><br/>I would like to go back and try the yum cha,

They are always busy, even on a weekday lunch. Went there twice and had to wait 20-30mins before we got a table. However, the food is worth the time (okay, probably wouldn't visit it as often because of the wait time). <br/><br/>My personal favourite is their taro pastry with almond slices, and their honey/yolk prawn. I find their har gao (prawn dumpling) really succulent and fresh. I also like the scallop version of the same dumpling. <br/><br/>For two people, we spent $50ish. On the pricier side but I personally find it worthwhile as the quality is pretty good. <br/><br/>Be there for early lunch to avoid long wait and to get a parking lot.

Best place for Yum cha in Auckland. Never disappoints! I would recommend to all friends and family members. Friendly staff also. This is our gem and a go to restaurant.
Sid
Friendly staff, good food. Nice range of food and drink options. A little on the pricier side, however you pay for what you get in that area. I would recommend, it's a nice place to bring the family for a birthday or special event.

30 March 2018<br/>Here again with a group of 18 people.<br/><br/>Best yum cha in Auckland and never fail to please our big groups. This local has been a staple for a long time. We love the dim sims off the trolleys. They even cook fresh greens for you. We discovered the ice cream balls in glutinous pastry here. Best to go 11:30am for lunch to avoid standing in the queue even if you have booked! Carpark is good only if you go early. Dinners are also good here.
Susie Lim
Overrated. .when for yum char. Very poor service need improvement. Even though you booked. Still have to wait for 30 mins? Fried squid cold, taste yuck. BBQ pastry thick and undercooked.Same for the fried sweet glutinous rice balls a tiny wee black sesame paste with thick glutinous flour. <br/><br/>Took 3 wait staff to clear a table when we asked for sauce and tea. They said wait till they finished clearing the table ??? Basically, can see they were talking and taking their own pace. For a restaurant that have good reviews ??? Will think twice to patron this place as their dim sums no longer the best in NZ as rated by some reviewers.

Been invited here a couple times by friends - service was not good but I did enjoy the food.<br/><br/>I gave it another chance, came here again for dinner with my family and was really disappointed with the service. We ordered 3 mains and they came 30 minutes apart. What really disappointed me was the waiters were all too busy to help or to even hear us for a few seconds. They were just running around, did not treat us well and spoke little English which made it really difficult for us to communicate. The food wasn't bad but the service was terrible and should be improved. It was not an enjoyable experience at all.<br/>Despite it's popularity, I'd much rather go to a different place.
Ziwei Jia
Really like ! Tasty so good, no matter the sweet or salty dishes. So crowded, and we wait for almost 30 minutes, but I think it worthwhile. Definitely go again
Just A Foodie
We went to this Restaurant to celebrate a 12 year anniversary of my Uncle and Aunt. The food is nice and served hot, their service is okay. Only drawback are the plates, glasses and spoons that look old. Otherwise, everything's great, more choices than grand harbour. Would recommend to friends.
Adachanrocks
Very disappointing. Came here last night for dinner. The service was quite poor to be honest, and this suppose to be relatively higher end type Chinese restaurant, however i felt the service was even worse then your typical Chinese restaurant. I was the person ordering for the group, however the waiter was standing directly opposite of me. I had to raise my voice to order. <br/><br/>Secondly, not sure if it's because the vegetable are quite expensive now, none of the vegetable dish were available except tofu. We tried ordering the eggplant and was unavailable. They didn't even have lettuce!! Seriously? There were 2 vegetarian that were eating with us and they had nothing to eat but tofu. <br/><br/>The wait staff feels under trained. To be honest the service were close to non-existence. There were no one to clear the empty plates for us unless I ask them to. I also had ask them many times to refill the water of the tea pot for us and the waiter was giving me a face of annoyance. <br/><br/>Overall it wasn't a very good experience. I can go elsewhere for a much better price for the food and service. I won't return any time soon.
Aimee.
There is a long waiting line for this restaurant. However the wait is worth it. I believe this is one of the best yum cha's in New Zealand. Huge variety of food and lots of vegetarian options. However the staff are extreme pushy. I assume they get paid commission for selling their dishes.
HelenMeng2000
Food is very delicious, recommended to people who like to try multiple dishes and sharing with friends. It is a very busy restaurant and usually there is a waiting time if you do not book before arriving.
Brandon Li
Grand Park is the best restaurant for yumcha hands down. Food is great and my aunty knows the staff there so we can walk right in without booking. Screw waiting on weekends. Services are great too and staff are friendly. Prices are ok but it can be expensive if you have a lot of people.
Roger DD
Always busy as usual but was there at 1.30pm so the wait is not too long. Good dim sum with varieties and quick service as the foods comes around really quick and hope to back again soon.
May
My husband and I had lunch at Grand Park this afternoon. We were very disappointed about it. Shrimp dumplings was cold served, and the pastry was the worst pastry I have ever tried. There was only just a little bit of mince inside the Lotus leave wrapped rice chicken. The deep fried squid was also served cold, which tasted like overnight dish...We ordered 7 dim yum in total and it was almost $50 dollar. I do not think I will ever come back again...
Phillip Liu
Lots to choose from, the dim sum prices are a bit pricier than usual but it's nice food. <br/>Make sure you go earlier before it opens otherwise you have to wait in a long queue.
Jessica Halim
It took us a while to finally appreciate how amazing yumcha at Grand Park. Our first experience in here was not really memorable. I guess it was combination between ordered the wrong dishes and crazy waiting time (here is the tips, do book if you come with 4peoples or more otherwise try to come before 11am on the weekend, if not be prepared to wait for 15-75mins). Dont worry about coming too early, Grand Park has done well to ensure all dishes are ready from the first minutes they open. <br/><br/>But then, hearing how famous yumcha in here we came again for the second time, then we convinced to come back for the third, forth and so on, again we have been here countless time. We overall love the authentic flavour for steam dish. They also done roast duck and deep fried squid very well (the batter for this always nice but depend on your luck, squid can get overcooked a little). Our personal favourite would be their chilli oil (yes, they have done this bit very very well).<br/>Their pork siumay, prawn toast, dumplings, fried dough rice flour rolls (with peanut sauce style nyummm) and glutinous mango roll are worth ordering too!<br/><br/>Price wise might be in the high end, but we pay for quality I guess. <br/><br/>Ps: they have plenty of parking spot on the race course, just ask how to get around the back. <br/><br/>Nyummmm.... some of snapshoot from our last visit
Kiwi Eats Asia
Went here for yum cha today around 12.30 with family, and was impressed! The venue itself is like a huge performance theatre with spotlights and a stage and some tables on the mezzanine floor overlooking us all down in the huge room. There are a huge number of tables that fit in that space, but unlike many places there is actually a bit more rooms for the food carts to move among the tables. We sat at a small table for 5 which was great for hearing each other as it can get a little noisy in there. The food came around promptly and there was huge selection as well as all the classics. Plenty of dishes that appeal to western and Chinese tastes. My favourites were the rice rolls with shrimps, shaomai (good amount of prawn!), garlic chive and shrimp dumpling, sesame balls, tendon and tripe. All absolutely delicious :) Since I''m doing junk free June (sort of) I didn't opt for any purely dessert dishes but they looked amazing - so many different jellies, cake slices, mochi, pudding - yum! The tea was regularly replaced and the waiters pretty attentive. I definitely like this place. Note: there was a one hour time limit for tables so don't dawdle. It is very busy so make sure you're prepared to wait for a table (maybe you can book in advance? Unsure.) Parking is difficult but if you ask the security guards in the car park they can help you not get towed. Enjoy :)
Charmaine
One of the best siewmai in Auckland, not surprising since Grand Harbour is their sister restaurant. <br/><br/>What's surprising is that service is much better here, staff actually listen to your requests. No need to self serve for chilli oil :p<br/><br/>You also get a better variety of food options here compared to Grand Harbour. <br/><br/>Downside is that I find parking and waiting here is worse, you might have to circle a few times before getting a spot. We went around 11.30am on Sunday of Queen's birthday weekend, and had to wait 30mins for a table. Once in, you're given a set time (45mins today) to vacate your table for the,<br/> next group. Also, tables are more cramped together, you almost feel like you're sharing a meal with the next table. <br/><br/>Food was all up to our high expectations :)
Jessie Lian
It's pretty good place to meet with someone, it's busy at lunch and night time, but they manage it well. Don't have to wait longtime, and staff is nice as well.
Angel Deng Yun
One of my favorite places for Yum Cha. Actually it is better than many places I have ever tried in Beijing;) Fresh ingredients is the key issue, also food varieties. Grand park does a good job. You can't resist any little cuties that pass by you:P Mostly all of them won't let you down. Easy for a couple, a family and a big friends' party to share the tasty experience. But always arrive early before you queue long time to lose ur patience!
Sooperlyn
A friend told me about this place and all I can say is that this is the BEST Chinese food in Auckland. Yum cha at its finest, you won't be able to choose as everything is delicious. My must try list would be pork/prawn siu mai, egg tart, red bean sesame ball, and crispy squid. I have to come back to try the others, but I tell you, you won't regret feeling full at this delicious place!
Nisarag Bhatt
I had yumcha for the first time in my life here, went here with 15 other friends! <br/><br/>Since I'm vegetarian - I mainly had the sweet dishes but my god they were so good! <br/><br/>My favourite were the ice cream balls (my first time having them). All my friends looked like they were enjoying the food there as well.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was nice (it's so busy in the mornings but we came pretty early so we got a whole table for 3 hours).
Ashleigh Michelle
Only been here for dinner, not yum cha. Really enjoyed dinner here though as the service was good and food of high quality. Was a little pricey though, but would love to come back for yumcha.

On a re-visit today, I have to amend my rating on Grand Park. Four of us were given 45 minutes for lunch. I was rather upset to see the limited time imposed on this hospitality industry. It made me even more upset to see that the staff who brought out the dim-sums kept talking among themselves, rather than serving their customers. Probably this was the way they enjoyed working there. (Food - 3/5; Service - 1.5/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)<br/>Re-visited on 22 Feb 2018<br/><br/>I've not visited Grand Park for more than 8 years, as it's notoriously known for its bad service. This time we had an early yum-cha on a week-day & it wasn't busy. Service was normal.  Prawn dumplings, pork siu-mai, beef tripes & deep-fried spring rolls were the common orders; more special ones were brasied pork trotters, deep-fried prawn dumplings, steamed-layer sponge cake  & egg-yolk buns (2 desserts). There was a good variety of food; quality was average, but nothing of a surprise. (Food - 3.5/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 4/5)<br/>Visited on 27 Mar 2017

A family group of 12 had Yum Cha today.. We had reserved a table and after a brief wait  we were directed to our table..Before we had even sat down , we were  overwhelmed by food selections( not ours), despite insisting to the  experienced waitress that we wanted to make our own selections, a continual supply of food selections were laid on the table....I have no qualms about the quality of food which is always good here,   my concern is the inherent arrogance of the management that this is acceptable practice.. I will never return here, despite knowing how good the food is..I will not accept such accepted arrogance obviously directed to non Chinese groups...................

Heard a lot about this place and finally tried it out. It was raining cats and dogs and therefore thought that the yum cha wont be too crowded. Boy was I wrong! At least 200 people waiting to be seated with a full house inside. At 11am! We finally got seated and thoroughly enjoyed the yumcha collection. But were prompted to leave after a while since other people had to be accomodated. Understandable but it cut our good experience a bit short. The food is good and the variety is large. Everything you want in a yum cha. While I would recommend it at least once, I wont return anytime soon myself as there are many other good yumcha places where I wont have to wait for long and then be asked to leave to make way for others.
Oksana Zhang
It was packed with people so we had to wait, but boy-- it was so worth it! <br/>The selection of food is one of the most in all of the YumCha places I've been to, and the waitresses come around frequently with the carts! Dishes are all freshly made as well! <br/>I came here with a friend and we accidentally ordered 12 dishes between two...oops! There's just too much to choose from!
Meggie.bird1997
Was disgusted to see this on the menu. It Is a cruel illegal act. There are animal welfare laws in New Zealand saying you can not do this to a shark. Think of the environment.

***<br/>What's good<br/>-The variety of food they have<br/>-The taste is good<br/><br/>What's bad<br/>-There is a bit of a wait for lunch especially on weekends<br/>-More expensive than other yum cha places<br/>-You get charged for tap water that comes in the green tea jugs and you also get charged for green tea. Be careful because they will bring it to the table without asking.<br/>-They are a bit too pushy sometimes by putting food on your table that you don't want and you have to repeat several times that you don't want it.

One of the best yumcha!<br/>Best to book as this place is always so busy<br/>Massive restaurant and selection of foods is great<br/>Slightly pricier than most yumcha places but this is probably due to location<br/>I love how the staff can speak english as in some places communication can be little difficult <br/>Would definitely recommend

Yum cha is the go here! It's always busy on the weekends so make sure you go early or be prepared to wait. The food is really good and the trolleys are always stocked and comes around readily.
Foodie Traveller
We made a booking for yum cha at 12.30pm for a party of five plus an infant. We showed up early at 12.15pm and was given a ticket number and was told to wait. After reminding them twice that we made a booking we were eventually seated at 12.50pm. The food here is grossly overpriced, the selection is good but by the time the food comes to your table it's already cold. We asked for a high chair at the time of booking but only received it at the third request. Been here so many times before having kids but will not be returning again. There's much better places to eat yum cha in Auckland with much better service and pricings.

Came here with my friends for yum cha. It's a very big place and was super busy. Once we finally got a table we starting picking our food. They had a great selection of food and all very beautiful and tasty. I wish I could try everything they had but it would've been too much. Everything we had we loved and enjoyed alot. The waitresses were very friendly and explained to us what was in everything we were interested to try. We had selected quite alot and all worth the price. It is definitely a place to go and a place to try out a different range of food. It was a great experience for me. Truely enjoyed it 😊

It's really a good place to yum cha. <br/>We went there in the morning about 10 o'clock and we booked the table already but we still need to wait for some time out of the restaurant. And there were many people waiting there. So if you want to go there, it is necessary to reverse before and go there early. All dishes were fresh and good. And It seems all stuff there can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
Raymond Tiong
I've been here for both dinner and yum cha. Found yum cha to be a bit expensive and very busy – you'll have to be willing to share a table if you come on a Saturday. <br/><br/>Really enjoyed dinner here. Can't remember all the dishes we had, but I liked the fish. Found the quality of food to be pretty good, overall.
Mistar Kumar
Went here for a friday night dinner with the wife. Felt like chinese. Food was great, we got the lamb with veggies and chicken fried rice. A bit expensive in comparison to other chinese restaurants. But the serving portions matched the price. The major let down was the service. No one bought us water to drink or asked us if we would like to order drinks. Did not clear our entree plates, nor provided us with cutlery. You want to make money for your business ask the customers if they would like to order any drinks.
Jessica
Went here awhile ago with my mum for yum cha and it wasn't too bad. Can never go wrong with various types of dumplings, and shu mai's. Service was okay, I've had worse in places like these. I would consider going back, but it is a bit far away from where I usually travel for a lunch. If your around that location, defiantly give it a try for yum cha some time.
Cindy Valentino
First time I've tried this place, food was nice but nothing stood out, heaps of food trolleys going around which I liked so you don't have to wait around and starve, service was good I would like to come back but it is abit pricey.<br/>Service 10/10 food 10/10 location 8/10 was kind of hard to find
Dave Koefoed
We had yum cha lunch s couple of Sundays ago. We had a booking for 12 pm, finally got seated at 1230, and you only get about 45 minutes to dine, but on saying that, from the time we sat down to the first trolley of food arriving was barely seconds, and they keep coming around the whole time. Food is great, heaps of choice and the service is ok considering the number of people they put through there. Definitely worth a visit.
Asianfoodie
Food was good and there was a whole variety. I gave it a low rating because the staff really let the restaurant down...They were extremely rude, and when I asked what sauce was used for the beef dishes, they rolled their eyes, sighed, and walked away. Such rudeness ruined my dining and prevented my intention to go back
I'm Hungry
Needless to mention this is the best yumchar i have had. The variety is just mind blowing. The prawn dumplings, chicken feet, soy Choy and the desserts yumm. We had to wait 30mins on a Wednesday afternoon as it was so crowded. Would love to go back only if it was not so expensive.
Marcella
What a busy yum Cha place this is and I can see why. With its variety of food and central location this is definitely people's go-to place for yum Cha. After a bit of a wait the three of us finally got seated. <br/><br/>We ordered dumplings, squid, tofu, beans, prawns, chicken feet and prawn toast from what I could remember. They were all delicious. The highlight to me was the squid, I just wished I got a fresher batch as the one I got was already a bit cold. The beans were also crunchy and yummy. A bit pricier than your usual yum Cha but with the quality of food and flavours, I'd say it's worth it. <br/>I'd recommend booking ahead if you don't want a long wait.
Kelly
A very busy yumcha destination here in Auckland! For many years it's been one of the top rated yumcha restaurants and it still holds its high rating.<br/><br/>There's a great selection to cater to many, they even have a menu on the table that pictures all the food available to order. Food is fresh and not greasy compared to many other yumcha restaurants out there. Service is a little shotty at times but great destination for all cultures! <br/><br/> Great food, although wait time for a table is absolutely ridiculous 😒 even when you book in advance you'll be left waiting for half an hour to get your seat. But wait it usually worth it. Today's food was really damn good!! <br/> Well worth a try, you'll feel like you're in Hong Kong when the yumcha restaurants are completely packed haha.

My favourite place for Yum Cha in Auckland! My boyfriend thinks Jade Dragon is better but he is "guai lou" what does he know hahaha. Jokes. The food is always consistently yummy with the exception of a few dishes. We did not enjoy the radish cake at all! It was stodgy and kinda tasteless. However I'm impressed with the wide selection of food! From har gao to durian pancakes to yummy century egg congee. Go early on weekends (before 11am) to avoid crazy long queue. Will go back in a heartbeat!
Eddie Liu
My favourite yum cha in Auckland. Althought the wait times can be ridiculous (especially on weekends) it is not their fault. The food is magnificent and my all time favourites are the Ice Cream balls. If youre patient then this wait is definitely worth it.
Ryan Wong
One of the best yum cha's in Auckland, food is of a consistent good quality and taste amazing. Coming to this place is a treat. Will be coming back for sure
Michelle Hwang
Tried both of Yum Cha lunch and regular dinner there. High class dim sum dishes and tasty main dishes for reasonable price. Average cost of Yum Cha lunch is roughly $50 for two people. Booking essential.
TimTam
Been here several times for yum cha and even though it's always busy (irritatingly so at times but always a good sign for the food), we i.e the hubster and I, have never been let down by the chow. The surroundings is nothing to write home about but the selection of dim sum, deep fried morsels, BBQd meats, steamed veggies and the congee have tempted us back time and again. The rotation of carts is quite good as you get different varieties over a period of time and are not stuck for choice. I have learnt to lower my expectations for service from yum cha restaurants but we've always found the service here efficient though not always friendly. One gripe that we have - not just for this restaurant but all yum Cha places we have been to in Auckland: we keep having to ask for soy sauce refills as they are economical with their servings of this. (Or maybe we should reduce our sodium intake!) And if u want chopped fresh chillies added to that, expect the dried ones steeped in oil. Close but no quite the same effect. Grand Park is on our rotation of Chinese restaurants to take family and friends to when they come for visits.

One of my favourite Chinese restaurant in Auckland. This place is always packed for lunch and there is a waiting time (even though you've already booked!) I would definitely recommend their Yum Cha for lunch really good quality and service is prompt, ambiance is also lovely. Dinner wise was also very good, we ordered two course pecking duck and I must say it was yum best pecking duck place! Other dishes was also good we pretty much ordered most of the dish on the menu and they all did not disappoint (Hapuka fish and prawn balls my favs!) Also it's great because they are BYO with $8 corkage. I will definitely be back!

Came here for my cousin's bday lunch. It is one of the best yum cha I have been too. There was a lot of food to pick from and they all look delicious. The service was good except the pushy attitude to try something we don't want. Didn't get the nice food because of that...saying that it wasn't something we didn't want but they were delicious. The service was good some staff were nice and tried their best to understand English. Over all I enjoyed it and can't wait to go back again.
Couple Of Cheap Westies
This place offers fast and delicious yum Cha! We turned up with a group of 6 without a booking and we were given a number in a queue where they called out your number once a table was available. We waited for about 20 minutes but we knew we wanted to try this place and I'm glad we waited. The food was fresh and constant. There was not a time where we had an empty table or where we were waiting for a trolley to pass by. The pancakes with fruit and cream filled inside were something I'd never tried but since dining here I've been looking for them at all other yum Chas and haven't had the pleasure of finding them anywhere else! Be sure to bring your wallet though. This yum Cha is quality stuff so be prepared to pay for it. Overall a 4.5/5 just due to the steep prices.

I Booked a table for 15 people 2 weeks in advance... we get there and only 10 seats were at our table and they would just walk away and not return when we asked for more. They seemed to like their own kind over us as another table of Asians came after us and got all of their food before us.Even worse is that instead of the Yum Cha experience I expected, we got one dish at a time that we had to share between 15 of us (that we had to order ourselves- yum cha?). Not a happy experience.

The food was good up until our Lemon Chicken arrived. Maybe certain types of people are accustomed to this taste, but to me it tasted like cardboard, and there was a lingering aroma of "fly spray". It did not even LOOK like chicken, it had a strange "sponge" texture to it, almost like some kind of tempura. The staff really seemed like they did not want to talk to us, but they seemed more than happy to engage with other patrons of similar ethnicity.

Went here for my birthday and over ate again. Dish of the day for me was the duck. A few dishes were a little oily or over cooked but overall I love this place. The tea is also wonderful and the ice cream balls delicious.

The worst service I have come across in Auckland. Never come here. What everybody else says about the management is 100% true. The attitude is poor, they say incredibly rude things to your face and they can't even print out a simple tax receipt.
Saffron Huang
Incredibly awful experience and service. We were charged $100 for a single steamed fish, so naturally we asked because our bill was $380 for 7 people (?!?!? even without the fish!!). When the fish was brought to us to check before they steamed it, it was way bigger than the fish we actually received, too -- they swapped it out, and never stated the price or the weight like they usually would. <br/>The manager was ridiculously rude, saying "well you never asked" (So if we don't ask they can charge what they want?) and "if you can't afford it, don't order it" (That's not the point! WTH who says that?? The point is the crappy service and blatant overcharging and swapping the fish for a much smaller one). The food was so average too, and really standard fare, so we never thought that it would be that insanely expensive, assuming that the price would be similar to other Chinese restaurants (no more than $200)... we ordered stuff like tofu and veges, for god's sake. It's complete bull, and the service was ridiculous. Don't come here. <br/>

After ordered Chinese tea, seated for 30mins without anyone serving or acknowledging It's ridiculous but poor this business earns money by charging the people the costs of Chinese tea. Wasted what I've spent, will never recommend to anyone else

I honestly don't know what's so great about this restaurant. Perhaps it's popular due to patronage from their own ethnicity. The food is pretty average and pricy. The staff (more so their Manager) are rude and arrogant. Most can't speak English and have no professionalism or etiquetty. If you're a Kiwi, wanting a dining experience with ambience - you won't get one at this place.  You will not feel welcome, in fact you'll be made to feel that you're unwanted. Besides they've clever for not listing shark fin on their on-line menu but they have it on their table menu. Kiwi's shouldn't be supporting a restuarant that encourages this such cruelty. Would never ever step foot in there again, absolutely disgraceful.

Had a group of 15 people for dinner here last night. Ordered about 8-9 dishes and came up to about $350 in total. The highlights were the Peking Duck, roast pork and honey pork chop. Very delicious. The restaurant itself is clean and perfect for large or small family dinners. Ample free parking and has a good view of the race course. Will definitely be back again.

This must be the place that I have been in most of the yum cha restaurants. Good food and wine selection. Service is good, you can book same day, and so many yum cha food to chose.

Came here for Yum Cha on a busy Sunday morning. <br/><br/>Make sure you are prepared to wait as it can take up to half an hour to get seated. The staff aren't overly friendly but I think it's just they are so flat out.<br/><br/>The option almost seem endless, as a constant stream of trolleys are pushed past your tables. <br/><br/>Their steamed dumplings are amazing and definitely worth eating a dozen in a sitting! The BBQ pork buns were too sweet and ending up more like dessert which was odd. The BBQ pork was amazing, some parts a little too grissly but overall very nice. The spring rolls were divine with diced up prawn and spices. <br/><br/>The pancakes with cream and strawberries were a big hit and they had a dessert of the day which fresh mango in a mango flavored casing, covered in coconut. Great way to finish a meal.<br/><br/>We will be back to try more amazing dishes!

Although the food is good- usually, I cant accept waiting for over an hour even though we have a reservation! The service is terrible, and if I complain e.g. because of a hair in my food, they rudely take it away and replace it. To me it seems this place is more concerned with making as much money as possible in the shortest time possible and don't care much for their customers.  There are other places to go with better food and service

Grand Park is a busy restaurant and for me that is always a great sign.<br/><br/>We had a brilliant Yum Cha lunch and have always had excellent service from the staff. Chinese dining over lunch is a really great way to sample different food plates and experience a unique way of eating.<br/><br/>Our guests were very happy and so were we.<br/><br/>For sure, we will be back.

My family love Yum Char, so I've been to many places around Auckland and this place is by far our favourite!<br/><br/>Don't bother booking a table, as they do not care and are constantly so packed/busy its just first in first served. TIP: if your in a smaller group, tell one of the waitresses you can share a table with others and you'll get in super quick! Always works for us and we never end up waiting long ;)<br/><br/>Service is NOT great, most don't speak good english and often cant describe the dishes! <br/><br/>Food is 10/10. LOVE the food here, fresh and delicious. My personal favourites are the steamed spinach/prawn dumplings, fried pork dumplings, BBQ pork rice rolls, shumai, beef balls, steamed pork and custard buns, xiao long bao (pork dumplings), pork ribs, sticky honey chicken wings and the green beans with pork mince and olives. <br/><br/>Unlike other places they also have a really wide range of deserts to choose from. I LOVE the chinese pancakes filled with fresh cream and strawberries - so delicious and fresh! If you want something a bit different try the taro sago jelly - its amazing and also one of my absolute favourites! The deep fried taro and almond pastry is also really really good but quite rich/filling. <br/><br/>Will continue to go back!! Probably this weekend again :)

Food was simple and nothing extraordinary. Long wait even with booking. Staffs really let the place down, they were rude and not pleasant. Wouldn't go back again.

This place is always packed. To be honest I'm not quite sure why as their yum cha dishes are only just above average, and yet they are incredibly expensive relatively speaking.<br/><br/>Food: 6/10<br/>Service: 3.5/5 <br/>Ambience: 3.5/5<br/>Value: 2.5/5<br/>Overall: 15.5/25

Came here on Sunday for lunch. We had booked a table for 3 for 11.45am. <br/><br/>We arrived at 11.40am and had to wait for a table, we were told one would be ready in a few minutes. It seemed as though booking a table made no difference to the waiting time. We waited for an hour for our table to be ready, thinking the food better be worth the wait. <br/><br/>As we sat down, trolleys of food arrived. Everything was delicious. Even though it was on the pricier side, similar to Star Seafood Restaurant on Chapel Rd, this was by far a better standard of food.<br/><br/>The only downside was that the same trolleys were circulating the floor with the same dishes, so it got a bit boring as we had already seen what was in it.<br/><br/>Yum Cha at Grand Park was definitely worth it, with quality being similar to Hong Kong yum cha. However an hour wait with a booking is pushing it. Would return during weekday or when lunch session begins.
Musings Of A Foodie
Definitly one of the really good place for yum char I have been. They have the usual menu as you would find in a yum char menu. More choices I find, place is clean. My only complaint really is they can be pushy to pick their food when they pass their trolly, and when you refuse you get an annoyed look or sigh of irritation. If only their service was good as their food.
Janet Wu
Perfect place for yumcha however it can be a bit pricy. Siu mai and egg tarts are so good. Would come again! Sat and Sunday's they tend to limit you to stay for 1 hour max, so book your places before going!
Angela
Worth the wait! There is always a queue to get in here, and for good reason. The food is devine - so fresh, and well cooked! It's a little pricier than other yum cha options, but for a treat it is definitely worth it. Staff were friendly, however it took three requests and 20 minutes to get a glass of coke. That's our only not so positive feedback on this place, which is nothing really!
Sheena
Grand Park is always packed for yum cha! This used to be our go-to yum cha place when our family went quite often! Even booking ahead though, we have to wait about fifteen minutes to get seated. <br/><br/>The dishes here are yum! I love the rice noodles (cheung fan), prawn balls (har gao), chicken feet (fong zhao) and the ice cream mochi balls here! So so so good. It definitely does help being able to understand the ladies that push the trolleys around though! <br/>
SS
My absolute favourite restaurant for yumcha in Auckland!!! It's always packed so it definitely pays to book ahead. <br/><br/>Pros: Grand park has arguably the largest range of dimsum. Their freshly squeezed juices are actually really good!! The wait staff can speak reasonably better english than those at other yumcha places. Constant stream of trolleys with fresh food at a good pace!! (People underestimate the importance of this haha, nothing worse than having a dish and then waiting another 10 mins for the next trolley to come by..) They have a pretty yum chilli oil too which I like dipping literally everything in. A good range of desserts here too, more than the usual colourful gelatine jelly most places serve, though they do have it also ;) <br/><br/>Favourite dishes: Scallop dumpling, prawn and spinach dumplings, prawn toast, siu mai, mango pancake, BBQ pork rice rolls <br/><br/>Avoid: pork spare ribs - bland and tasted slightly off. Pan fried dumplings - tasted old. Pork and chive dumpling - they use a different pastry on this one which is sightly soggy and doesn't hold its shape. The filling is quite broken up and is rather hard to eat. Taste wise- is your typical barilla dumpling. <br/><br/>Cons: hard to find parking. Can't spontaneously have lunch here without a wait - even on weekdays!! Pricier than most yumcha restaurants outside of CBD. <br/><br/>Will definitely keep coming back :-)

One of our go to places for Yum Cha. Nice place, and always packed. Service is nicer than the usual Yum Cha that you would experience in Auckland. Food would be around average for some and above average for others. We'd still go back here since they're one of the few establishments that serves tofu jelly that my wife loves.
Di
First time having Yum Cha in Auckland, very good experience, we arrived Grand Park around 11am, there were already a long queue. After waiting for 20min, we got a table and ordered shrimp dumpling, egg custard tart, chicken feet, pineapple bun...very delicious and similar to the dim sum that I once had in GuangZhou or HongKong

Grand Park is the fine dining of yum char in Auckland, it's always packed in the weekends, and wait lines are expected even if you've made a booking. The prices are more expensive than your standard yum char, but the service here is top notch- they have plenty of staff on hand to share the workload instead of those usual small handful stressed workers trying to handle masses of people at once. There's always trolleys frequenting the tables as well so you'll get your favourite dishes pretty fast, but the food itself is pretty standard. While it's nice that they provide you with the chilli oil when asked, I prefer getting it myself because there's never enough of the actual chilli ! There's also going to be a time limit on your table as they're always packed, so if you do come, make sure you get in early! Maybe it's because I've grown up accustomed to specific yum char places that I prefer those ones instead, but Grand Park is quite a good one if you don't mind paying a bit more and dealing with crowds.<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge

The food is always tasty, fresh, and the variety is great; probably has the widest range of dishes of all Yum Char restaurants in Auckland. However, I never enjoy the noisy atmosphere, that always results in a somewhat displeasing experience, even though the food is great.
Macy
The quality and range is undoubtedly good, and you get what you pay for. That's probably why it is always fully booked, and a nightmare on weekends, where they evict you within one hour or so. It is also quite squished due to the table arrangement.
Gentlepig
The only good thing about Grand Park is variety - their variety is surely the widest of any Auckland yum char establishments, but that's as far as it goes. The quality of the food is good but I really am struggling to describe it any further, as it's on par with the 'standard' of dim sums.Supremely popular, don't be surprised you'll need to wait for a table every day of the week. In my opinion it's overpriced - but why would they not charge these amounts if there's a demand? Service is rushed (to be expected) - if you've grown sick of your local yum char joint that produces food just as good, visit. If you're just looking for an occasional yum char, just go to your local.

Went on a Thursday for yum cha lunch. Place was packed but still managed to get a table within 10 minutes. The staff were happy and the food very nice. Not sure I would come here in the weekend.

What a disappointment!! I had been to Grand Park Yum Cha for lunch and had delicious food and a wonderful time.  I took my family to dinner hoping to have the same experience.  Good to note that the Yum Cha option is only until 3.00pm at this restaurant.  So we looked at the menu (expensive) . The BBQ pork (8002) was tasty but at $30 the portion was very small. The prawn dumplings were not cooked through and therefore doughy -  in addition the sesame oil overtook any flavour the prawn may have had.  Most disappointing of all was the combination fried rice. I think the chef missed out putting in any flavourings/stock - as it was totally bland and dry (despite the oil).  It had the tiniest pieces of meat through it you could imagine and four prawns - a few peas; and bits of egg omelete.    Will never go back - at $78 for two adults and a child I felt totally ripped off.....

We regularly come here for yum cha, and occasionally dinner. One of the better places for yum cha in NZ, though I think the dim sum has grown to be less authentic over the years and msg is overused at times. Nevertheless, they have a variety of dim sums and some of my favourites include the dumplings and the Portuguese tart. <br/><br/>Dinner is also pretty good, elegantly presented, and much less crowded than yum cha. Defiantly recommend the sizzling eggplant, it's cooked in a sealed up foil bag in black bean sauce, think it's very unique and not many places have this. The sago pudding with taro is also very nice, but make sure you have enough people to finish it! <br/><br/>The atmosphere is certainly better than most Chinese restaurants, and the service is better (more attentive and pleasant) than their counterpart Grand Harbour in the city. Parking is also way better, with tonnes of spaces being withy the racecourse and ASB showground. This would be a good place to try Chinese food for the first time.
FlyingMonkey
This place is sorta like big Chinese families dinning go to place. As well as popular to kiwis. The service is good, friendly and fast, but one thing I noticed that over the years, the standard of yumcha has dropped (it used to be better) as well as some of the plates and cups, they were oily with bits of food stuck to it. Don't think this should happen at a middle upper class restaurant, at least that's what the market portray. I was there twice in 1 week, and the same dirty plates happened to me. Food was tasty, but sometimes I worry....<br/>
Dommonique
The food is always good here. If your first language is English (like me) the staff are still ver friendly and helpful. Book in advance to avoid a long wait especially on weekends. I've had literally everything there is for yum Cha and it's all delicious.
Rebben
I've been here for yum cha many times over the years.  Very recently the Mr and I decided on a whim to have lunch here during the week.  We were seated very quickly, which was a pleasant surprise because if you've ever come here on the weekend you have to wait for a table to come available.  The waiting staff came around quickly and before long our table was piled high full of yummy morsels.  The food here is of excellent quality and service is consistently to a high standard.  This is not the sort of place to have a leisurely lunch though, you get your table you eat and you leave!  I would recommend the ice cream balls!

I love coming to grand park with friends and family!!<br/><br/>Their Beijing duck is amazing. I usually do not like the second course soup but grand park makes it deliciously. <br/><br/>The thing I've noticed that most people don't like about asian restaurants is the service even though the food is good.<br/>This doesn't bother me because I personally go out to enjoy the food. The service was good though. I don't think they usually serve their mango pancakes during dinner (it's a yumcha dish) but they ended up making it for us which was awesome!<br/><br/>My friend was feeling unwell so she ordered congee with pickled veggies first and they promptly brought it out before we even ordered our main dishes. <br/><br/>I definitely suggest everyone to try their fresh watermelon juice!!

Grandpark has the Best selection of yum char in Auckland . Best to go before 11am weekends and 12am weekdays .Fast service<br/>Great tasting selection always freshly made<br/>Fantastic place to share a lunch with friends<br/>And there's heaps of free parking!<br/>

I would have to say that grand park is one of the nicer and more professional looking restaurants when it comes to having a nice Yum Cha breakfast. The food is lovely and I rarely find any fault with them. The Har Gow dumplings, Siu Mai and Siu Bảo are nice. My favorites would have to be the chicken feet and the turnip cake. Desserts are very nice as well with the custard tart and the sesame balls with red bean or black sesame paste(Jin Dui) .<br/><br/>However the one big let down would have to be the service. It is unfortunate that Grand Park's good food quality is not matched with their customer service skills. With the price they are charging the can afford to get a decent training system in. The waiters and waitresses always look like someone in their family just died and the idea of a smile seems almost non existent. <br/><br/>Making a booking is hard as well as I always do everytime before going for yum Cha but when I get there a big group of us always seem to have to wait for 20 to 30 minutes. The worst thing however is when you have finished your food and the waiter seems to want to urge you to leave. One time I was asked to leave because they want to make space for another table. I understand that when you are busy it can be difficult to get all the customers in. However I think that you should balance out your bookings instead of cramming too many in to the point where there are people waiting in lines outside the door that have made a reservation and people inside getting asked to move!
A Culinary Affair
The back story : The combination of a race course and a Chinese restaurant does not seem to be an intuitive combination at first. However Grand Park does exactly that, and pricing aside, it does it well.<br/><br/>Food: Grand Park offers all your regular Chinese fare - from won tons to fried fish to noodles - to more authentic delicacies such as their popular sizzling stuffed chilli eggplant to oysters topped with garlic vermicelli garnish. The dishes are fresh and consistent in flavor - one the few places I can go to and get consistent flavors each time. The menu is varied - including a wide selection of choices for yum cha at lunch - so definitely a thumbs up in terms of taste and choice. The only down side is pricing - but you end up paying for what you get. It wont be as good value as visiting your local Chinese restaurant, but if you're wanting a more upmarket experience with authentic Chinese food - this is the place to go. <br/><br/>Setting: With leather seats, well spaced tables and even a large flat screen TV to let you keep track of important sporting and racing events, Grand Park offers a more upmarket environment suitable for large functions, weddings and parties. I have been to at least 2 weddings and another large dinner party here and have not been disappointed. <br/><br/>Occasion: From small group to large parties - good for yum cha lunch or the special evening out for quality Asian fare.<br/><br/>Revisit potential : 9 / 10

Great food but poor service. I booked for our lunch two days prior but still waited for an hour before we sat down. The staffs were rude and inefficient...We had no serviette, no bowl,I had to request an order four times before it actually arrives on my table.
Victor Chong
I think being a Chinese (by race, but I'm a Singaporean), we can understand the kind of ("poor') service rendered in a typical Hong Kong-style Dim Sum restaurant. After all, the atmosphere is part of the "Yum Char" experience.<br/><br/>However, I cannot accept the fact that when the restaurant is busy or full, they decided to kick the customers out. I've been there several times with families and friends. Food is good, to be fair. But our last experience were appalling ! There were 3 of us for lunch, and we towards the end of our brunch and were engaging in a family conversation when a waiter came over, interrupted us rudely and mumbled something about "anymore food we wanted", and about the time. After a few rounds, we realised he was actually asking us to leave as there was a que outside. I was so taken aback I told him we are about to finish and that he should not rushed us. <br/><br/>(He obviously reported to his boss) A lady (seem to be the owner) came over and told us we sat for too long, and there was a que outside, and if we are not ordering anymore, we should go !!!! OMG !! We've been to many far more authentic and famous Dim Sum restaurants in HK or even SF, but no matter how busy the restaurant is, they will not ask you to leave (if they do, it would be so tactful and graceful, you felt good leaving the place) in such manner. <br/><br/>Uncalled for and , such behaviour should not be condoned in a hospitality industry!! Why should we allow such behaviour to be tolerated, and such bully be allowed to operate a hospitality business ?!! <br/><br/>NOBODY, and NO CUSTOMERS should have to subject to such rude and appalling attitude ! I don't need to have Dim Sum in this restaurant, operated by such....

Sunday yum Cha is always busy as heck. This place seem to have enough staff to pull it off there was two of us but we were willing to share a table as you can wait a long time for a table for two which they just don't really have.. So if you don't mind sitting around a table of other strangers then go for it as we were shown to a big table straight away with two other couples and a family. This practice is quite common in Asia but I think it is still looked down upon here. Other than that food was perfect and price is reasonable.

Experiencing Yum Char for the first time.. I just enjoyed every bit of their food..a busy place..shouldn't expect for an awesome service.. Will definitely go there again.

Great food however OVER priced. Would not go back again. We can get same quality for cheaper some where else. Couldn't believe that the bill was almost like going to a fancy cafe.

We eat yum Cha here frequently and the food is consistently excellent. The service and characters around the restaurant are authentic and helpful. Even today, with the Chinese New Year rush, we had an excellent experience. <br/>

An excellent Yum Char Restaurant - it is apparently always busy as it is so popular so I recommend to arrive earlier than later.,  I have been told there is a new excellent chef who has made a difference to the yum char menu.   All the yum char dishes I and a friend ordered were great - with plenty of food doing the rounds.  I went during a week day, but would recommend you book for the weekend as it would be extra busy.  There is free parking on either side of the restaurant.  It might pay to avoid race days also, if you want parking without issues.

My family went for yum char lunch. Had seven dishes including dumplings, sweet/sour prawns, fried chicken, beans (which were yum).  Had been told "dishes" were $5.30 for medium and $5.90 for larger, which made sense as all the dishes were small. My husband and I liked the food but got a shock at the bill ($100) after the meal. In addition to the dishes priced as mentioned, the bill had 3 lots of $12 dishes and a $16 dish, plus a $22 plate of fried rice which we ordered as our children wouldn't eat the other food. Nice place, but I think more clarity is needed with pricing.

My partner had her birthday while recuperating for a customary one month after the birth of our son. Grand Park for dinner was noisy as it was probably 75% full. Service can be good when they are quiet but usually we find service only average. Waitress was helpful. For a table of three adults she tried to find a small crayfish and I was almost going to miss out on my favorite dessert taro sago custard had she not checked. We had a mixed meats dish with a nice seaweed and vermillci salad and a cantonese-styled cray with thick egg noodle called yee mein. The dessert also is a goidcreason ti come to this restaurant. The meats were fine well cooked and tender cuts nothing too fatty the serving of seaweed salad was refreshing and very good. Our plate of crayfish served with the boiled prefried noodles arrive well presented. It's taste was good but not great. It was served with little in the way as gravy so the crayfish flavour was not coming through in the noodles. Crayfish is never cheap so we were fed for a bill of over $300 but with a fair bit of cray and noodle leftover. Would say a once-Grand Park is firmly mid tier rather than top end. Still pricey for a good standard of dinner due to selection and decor but usually not great for service or consistency in food.<br/>Return visit in Feb three months later enjoyed the sago taro dessert again but otherwise 6/10. One of my favorites when done well is ma po tofu a spicy northern dish of mince and tofu. Unfortunately soft tofu was noticably off so canceled the order as it was late after the other dishes we suspected it had been forgotten. Overall re-rated from 3 to 2.5 as service is still variable among the waiting staff and chefs.
Miss Kiki
Tried the yum char here today. <br/>Had a variety of dishes which included chicken feet, siu mai, roast pork, black bean beans, prawn dumplings and a prawn dish. <br/>The chicken feet is definitely more superior than the other places. <br/>The prawn dish was delicious with a sweet mayonnaise type of sauce. Everything else was either on par or slightly better than the average yum char joint.<br/>I do think that it is a bit pricey considering there were only 2 stand out dishes, it was about 50% more than what we usually pay.<br/>I don't think I will be rushing back purely because of the price, but I would recommend it to someone who likes yum char and have not tried this place.
Gus
We had a large table group at dinner recently and the food was very good. Service was typical for a chinese restaurant, so don't expect to be fawned over, but you come here for the food. All of the food was tasty and we enjoyed our evening, BYO wine is always a bonus too<br/>
David Parussini
Have genrally had very good yum chars here...a little pricey but the quality is better than a lot of other places in Akl, so worth it. Always busy which says it all, this visit was on a Sunday, arrived at 1pm and there was a huge wait..they took our name, we went for a walk and returned 40 mins later for a table. Have found phoning to "reserve" a table in the past doesn't work, basically first in really...Service once inside is typically Chinese, it's all about the food..
Mandy
Yum cha here is quite nice but definitely pricey. You can go to a lot of other yum cha places for more variety and cheaper. Dinner here was okay. The music was slightly loud. The staff were eager to serve and seem fairly friendly. The food was average, not the best or the worst. All in all, just.. average.
Pauline
Good place for yum cha. Food was great. However, the place was very busy so that I had to wait very long time. Reservation is suggested.<br/><br/>Service: 2/5<br/>Wait time: 2/5<br/>Environment: 3/5<br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/>Food Quantity: 3/5

Good food, nice place, expensive, noisy &amp; terrible service. Beware of hidden extra fee when you pay your bill, check before you pay. Went today around lunch time, got the bill &amp; we've told the cashier that we only had water how come we've got to pay extra $6 on top of our bill the cashier said that we had to pay an extra $ 1.50 each for sitting at the restaurant. Rip off! We will never come back.
Paul
This place is always good for yum char. Although sometimes the queue to get in is quite long and intense, it is worth the wait. Getting there early is paramount.
Rochelle Hilton
A group of 14 of us dined here for Dinner on 8th October. We had a multi cultural group &amp; were all very happy with the food &amp; service. The meals are slightly overpriced but quality was good. The peking duck was very nice. We had BYO wine which they were happy for us to bring in. Overall good night.

Not even worth a one star rating. This restaurant has rude, unhelpful staff. the vegetarian options were basically steamed beans and thats it.<br/><br/>Disgusted to see a filthy tank at the entrance loaded with crustaceans for people to choose to eat. The crayfish were stacked on top of each other, alive.<br/><br/>Also this poor excuse for a restaurant serves shark fin soup, something banned in the EU and also across America. It is a cruel and barbaric meal and doesn't do anything to dissuade me from never wanting to ever visit this hole again.
Keith
Absolutely appalled at my visit yesterday to the restaurant to as we had intended to use this restaurant as a wedding dinner reception venue. We had an appointment with the manager in the afternoon as the last time we went in they were too busy to talk to us. <br/><br/>The manager sat us down at a table, without introducing himself or welcoming us in any way. He asked what questions we had and we proceeded to ask a couple of questions about the menu we had chosen. We were given very abrupt answers like we shouldn't be asking any questions. We were then asked if we had decided on his restaurant or if we were still looking at other restaurants like we weren't welcome unless we had made our final decision (which we almost had) and made it VERY obvious he was just after money. He then pressured us to pay a deposit of $500 and said we were wasting his time if we didn't have the money as he was working over time, which is totally unfair as we weren't able to talk to him during mealtimes as they were too busy. Previously when we had called to make the pencil booking we were told that the deposit was only payable when someone else wanted to book on the same date and we had every intention of paying it soon after we had the initial meeting with the manager and had some of the details sorted. <br/><br/>After this I walked away and the manager started to feel he was losing potential customers (ie money) and then tried to change his tone and apologise saying that he was told that we were coming in to pay the deposit. Like that was even a valid excuse for the way we were treated!! <br/><br/>Was half prepared for poor service as a friend of ours had their wedding at the restaurant a couple of years ago and complained that the restaurant failed to return a lot of the BYO wine that they had brought and was considerably overcharged on the non-alcoholic drinks. He said they had been friendly to him before the wedding as he was a regular but once the wedding was over he got the regular crappy service that everyone else got!!<br/><br/>I thought the food and the ambience of the venue would let me look past the service factor but definitely not after our experience with the manager as this was even before we had paid anything!<br/><br/>If you are looking for a wedding or party venue, be prepared for very negative service at this place and I would definitely suggest going elsewhere!!!

I love Yum Char and this has to be one of the better ones. It was very busy when we went good selection and really enjoyed the spicy tofu. A great place for big groups.

Usually here for yum char on a Saturday or Sunday after a late night out the day before, often packed which is a down side, however the food here is actually pretty awesome for a hangover yum char meal.<br/><br/>Price is slightly higher than other yumchar restaurants, however the quality and hygiene makes up for it.<br/><br/>Awesome place to come to - to try impress your co-workers, guests, or other half for something a little different than a cafe<br/><br/>Service: 3/5<br/>Wait time: 4/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>Food Quality and taste: 4/5<br/>Price range: $30+ pp

Brought some family friends from Australia here who were fresh off their flight and keen for some Chinese food.. personally I have no particular affinity for yum cha as I recoil just seeing the words 'chicken feet' and 'shark fin.' We arrived around lunchtime on the weekend and it was incredibly busy, flocks of people walking around the restaurant and crowds and lines of people inside. The ladies taking bookings at the front were calling waiting guests with loudspeakers and microphones so that should give you an idea of what to expect. <br/><br/>Food-wise it was very average to me, I've been to different yum cha around Auckland and the food here was neither terrible nor memorable. I didn't mind the steamed dumplings but most of the smaller dishes are fried and oily. In terms of service most of the younger waiters were friendly with a good sense of humor, and seem to have a better grip on English. Some of the older ladies who came around communicated to our table by yelling at my mother in Chinese (she is Japanese) and tried to forcibly place dishes of unrecognizable lumpy things on our table. I guess for frequent yum cha-ers this is all part of the experience but for me the food is simply not worth the inconsistent service and being treated like a walking wallet. <br/><br/>If you like yum cha you might like this place, if not I'd try somewhere else.

Husband's birthday and went yum char at this Grand Park Alexandra Park. Made booking but still have to wait for table to be cleared (fair enough) but yum char dishes don't get served all at once. After 35 mins into eating, was told that the time limit is 45 mins per table. Food not all that great there are 2 yum char in Newmarket, can match this place.<br/><br/>My advice, for all occasions don't eat at this place.

We booked a week in advance and arrived on time, but still had to wait forty five minutes in line! This restaurant has no concept of time, customer manners or any courtesy at all. They are obviously after fast customer turnover. As soon as we sat down they turned on the timer and kicked us out at forty minutes. If they do not have the capacity, they should not accept the walkins, and if they want to accept the walkins, they should not be accepting the reservations! No matter what the food quality is, a restaurant is not a food vandor. You expect some kind of service. Pity it is non existent in this premise.

I went there for yum char and too be quite honest, have had better food. The food was pretty average and not worth going back to with the rude service, as they try to kick you out if you still eating and wouldn't give me a glass of tap water. Wanted me to buy bottled water. <br/>I wouldn't go back or recommend it.

Fast food done really well as it's meant to be fast and tasty. I never care about the lack of customer service I feel like I'm in downtown Asia and I love it!!!!! I expect no small talk just good food fast and affordable I'm just a number and I don't care and if you want something else then go to an overly priced restaurant where it takes forever to be fed. Always come here the Asians have got it SO right.

Three stars for the food but one star for the service, this average out to a 2 star rating. The place is packed with people, and they have plenty of staff running around but the time we wait for service is still too long. Dim sums came out slowly, and all they do was taking the same dim sums for a ride rather than offering fresh dim sums. The worst thing was the manager, he came to us and said "have you finished?", before we could answer he turned around and asked his staff to clear our table. The problem is we were still waiting on the desserts we ordered (because they ran out when the trolley came around). The waiters were so quick that half our bowls and plates were cleared off the table before we can react. I became so pissed that I demanded the waiters to bring us some new cutleries and plates so that we can finish our meal. It makes you ask yourself why you would pay that much money for such a poor experience.

I never knew that this restaurant existed within Alexandra Park. So parking is no problem you can almost park at the door.<br/><br/>Petty much your stock standard large format Chinese restaurant. The food was great and the pork was particularly good. Service was also the typical frantic Chinese style.<br/><br/>Not cheap.

We get a meal or takeaways here every week! It's our kids (young adults) restaurant of choice. Our 20 year old wanted his birthday meal to be eaten at home from here! Crispy roast pork, lemon chicken, squid, beef &amp; veges, we always get prawn dumplings too. Great simple atmosphere at the restaurant, but we would probably be their best takeaway customer!

Have eaten here a few times now, may not be the cheapest Yum Char, but is is one of the best around. Always busy, lots of staff willing to topping your table up.

Have just been back to this place that we loved after the reno<br/>OMG it looks fab but the service was the worst <br/>got to the venue @ 10:30 5 to 11 still no food had come to us, they stuck us over in the corner adn sent all the food out by the nmain door no food came over to us at all, as you can only be at a table for 30 min we got up and left!<br/>this has gone from a 5 star look at the review below we wrote 8 weeks ago to a 2<br/>bring back the old service!<br/>I would have to agree we have been to a lot of Yum Char in Auckland and this is one of the best.<br/>Good service great food.<br/>The only thing I can say is you are in and out within half an hour we eat fast but not that fast we really need 45 min to enjoy the food.<br/>We will be back.<br/>Make sure you try the prok adn peanut dumplings!

This is one of the best dim sum places in Auckland, and its prices are considerably lower than other establishments of the same caliber. If you can't be bothered to read my long review, the short answer is yes, do go to this place for your dim sum.<br/><br/>First of all, to the people who disliked the service because they were rushed. This is how it would work in a popular dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong. The Chinese have a fine grasp of supply and demand, and since they had tremendous demand, they have to find ways to increase supply. It's not a particular enjoyable experience, for sure, but you don't celebrate important occasions at a dim sum place and expect the serving staff to let you take your time. Chinese people wouldn't get away with it, and anyone who doesn't speak Chinese is even less likely to. Now that the cultural information session is over, I shall move on to food.<br/><br/>First of all, the food here is adapted to local taste buds to a certain extent. There are lots of fried items that you will never see in Hong Kong, and they will happily serve you cocktails and soft drinks instead of tea. It does have its specialities though. The honey-coated chicken wings are excellent, and the duck jaws are very tasty. The regular dim sum fair is well done though not excellent (by my standards), which is what you want for Saturday brunch. Dim sum is comfort food for most Cantonese people, and one doesn't need one's comfort food to be jaw-dropping, just good enough to satisfy the palate.<br/><br/>As a general rule of thumb, good service in a Chinese restaurant consists someone taking your order accurately and bringing your food without spitting in it. Food is the focus, not the service. I'm not saying that there aren't exceptions, but they are rare and normally involve you knowing the chef/owner personally. Keep this in mind and enjoy the food, and you will have a very pleasant experience.

We booked in advanced for lunch for Mother's Day. When we arrived (10 minutes early) we were given a ticket and told to wait for the number to be called - 40 minutes later we were allocated a table. We were seated, the yum cha food arrived, we barely had 30 minutes to eat when our plates were cleared and we were told by the waiter that we had to vacate the table as the allocated time for our seating was up! I was dismayed and very annoyed at how off handed the waiter was when he told us that it was time for us to leave. Had I known about the long wait time and "speed yum cha" session offered by this restaurant I would never have invited my mother here to be subjected to this appalling experience. We will never be back - ever! The food was very average for yum cha and certainly not worth putting up with the very bad service.

A fun place to try new stuff! Went here for lunch today. Very tasty. I have come before and been less impressed, so my rating is probably more like a 3.5. Dumplings are a safe bet as are most of the pastry things, especially this taro-filled pastry that I ate today. Be picky here. Don't take just anything. Call ahead and make a reservation. Bring someone who speaks Chinese if you want to find out what you are eating :D

A well known favourite place for the local and regional diners for yum cha and dinners. So I decided to take my mother-in law from Toronto there for dinner. The service from the staff was excellent from the start and so ordered several expensive dishes that were a little more complicated to prepare and to pull off.Our family are from HK and are experienced restaurateurs in Chinese cuisine. The dinner was magnificently prepared and executed. NZers need to know other Chinese restaurants in other parts of the world are not that great but this restaurant was good (they haven't Europeanised the cuisine an example, soup is served at the second or third course). The flavours are of original HK style and again I must commend the waiter staff for their attentive service that night.

Fabulous Peking Duck, great service, completly amazing food and never had a problem with service! Go on a race night and the staff really get into the excitement with you...very cool! Awesome- and you can takeaway any excess when your eyes are bigger than your tum!

The food was amazing! This is a place to go if you want to eat amazing food, and not have to wait to start eating. Just be aware that you will get interrupted every 3 minutes with someone offering you a different dish - but that is all part of the experience.<br/><br/>We were not pressured to leave, but that could have been because there were free tables (1pm on a Wednesday). <br/><br/>I would definitely recommend it - perhaps try a mid week lunch if you are worried about the time pressure based on other reviews.

The food is great- always! Its always busy which is a sign it is popular. Luckily we have always got a table. The other reviews are correct, however, it is common the old ladies are grumpy &amp; come across rude. That is how those chinese ladies are. Put it aside, stand your ground &amp; eat happily. Don't let them move you on or force food on you. Take your time to try new items. If you go on ultra busy times &amp; hate the service, then take your chinese mate with ya- they will sort them out! I will always go back for more!!!! And I always explode &amp; roll out of there happy! Ni hau! BEST YUM CHAR IN AKL!!!

I took my family of 11 here - including my aged mother, disabled sister-in-law and 3 young children. The 3 children ate slowly and my mother and sister-in-law could not move very fast and yet the staff hassled us continually to finish eating, hanging around the table when our apparent alotted hour was up!I think this must be the worst-mannered restaurant in town and none of us have ever, nor ever will return. I have also warned other prospective customers about the extremely bad-mannered customer service should they ever decide to go there!

Best Yum char. High quality. My family's favorite Chinese Restaurant.

This is a restuarant you will shun, staff are rude, and chase people away if you eat too slow and order too little. they probably thought they are the only restaurant in auckland, what a joke.

While a handful people I know rave about yumcha at Grand Park, I don't really feel much of the hype in it. I find it to be a really busy restaurant with nothing much standing out; come in the weekends and you'll find yourself waiting forever for a table unless you don't mind sharing with strangers, which I usually do anyway. Service is good enough, they have enough staff and trolleys full of foods to satisfy a lot of customers in the premise. Short to say you don't have to wait forever for your desired goodies to come pass by you. Like other yumcha joints only a handful of their staff speak English as well, expect a lot of body language involved here if you don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese like me.<br/><br/>Their dumplings are really average in my books as it's tad bland and I need a lot of soy sauce to make it more flavorful and none of their yumcha dishes actually stands out and makes me wanting to go back (like in the case for some other premises where I find some of their dishes exceptional and sways me in for my next visit). Their sticky rice is very, very disappointing. There's no flavor, there's not even a single slice of Chinese sausage in it, just tasteless rice and ground pork that is not even salty! <br/><br/>I'm not saying Grand Park is a bad yumcha joint, because they're not. My partner loves their steamed ginger beef tripes and chicken feet (two items I don't eat)--I reckon it's average but you won't be disappointed because as nothing stands out to be good nothing is extremely bad either (except for their sticky rice). Just very average!

Best Yum Cha in Auckland!<br/><br/>You should have a try, and then you will know all other Yum Cha in Auckland is rubbish. <br/><br/>Best forever! Don't miss it!

yum food, love the deep fried squid, love the big tables that accommodate for big parties or family affairs, however, can be very busy and will need to book in advance to secure a table. Overall good food and great atmosphere, staff are efficient and received ok service.
