Review 46 And York - Auckland Central

Tina Comrie
Always a great atmosphere for after work cocktails or a beer in the sunshine! Easily the best place to enjoy a sundowner - one of the only places on east side of the city that gets that all-afternoon sunshine. Also, the food is consistently great - the curly fries with truffle - to die for! And there’s plenty of gluten free goodness on the menu.

46 and York is an awesome place to meet friends for drinks and a bite to eat. They have heaps of unique cocktails and a range of beers/ciders on tap. The food is great and ranges from bites to share (chicken sliders are my all time fave) to yummy meals. There's a lot of parking directly outside which is unheard of for a bar in Auckland city and is a great after work spot as the tables outside have sun until late in the evening. Can't fault it, one of my favourite bars in Auckland

Excellent food. Good Service. Just don’t try and eat the skin like I did with the smoked fish. It was so delicious that I was like, “ I’m going to eat the skin “ next thing I knew I was chewing on a bunch of scales. My fault? Hmmmm maybe. In general very nice and the steak was cooked to perfection and a nice size to let me carry on with my night.

Food: 9/10 Venue: 8/10 Bar:9/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance: 9/10 The food was outstanding! Fresh ingredients perfectly brought together with a simple yet well thought out menu. The casual lounge music and comfortable setting is perfect for a quick bite or with your mates. The bar looks pretty well stocked and caters for pretty much any kind of beer, wine, spirits and cocktails. I'll be back for that Wagu Burger!

Absolutely Beautiful Restaurant and Bar, Excellent service, spectacular view of the Park and Sky Tower. Atmosphere was superb and our Dinner was exceptional. Thank you to all the Wait Staff and the Chef for a great evening out

Excellent service by the barman, as a single diner I felt very welcomed, thank you. I went to 4 other places in Parnell and they were all places I will never consider again. Thank you for your service and attention to detail!

Classy (but not pretentious) in Parnell. Came here for dinner and drinks on a wintery Sunday evening and they had the fireplace going which was a nice touch. Great selection of wines with a few of our favourites on the menu. Friendly attentive staff. Parking right outside. Food was top notch. Would be an excellent place after work too! Looking forward to coming back 👍

The chicken sliders are the best sliders you've ever had, and the Kokoda is to die for. The bruschetta is perfection. So well balanced, full of flavour and fresh. The atmosphere is relaxed, a great place for an easy lunch or great way to wind down after a long day. The staff are lovely and the drinks refreshing. Not to be missed. You'll want to go back, all the time.

Excellent venue for a party of 40. Staff are excellent. Attended awesome birthday celebration there.

Always a nice place to drink and relax with friends....Friendly professional staff 👌

Had such a fantastic catch up with friends here, service was excellent. A selection of tapas and mains for the table were all delicious! My favourite watering hole in Auckland

I have been to 46&York loads of times. The food is delicious, service is friendly & efficient and the location is ace! I like to sit in the back courtyard because there’s shade and it’s a super cosy vibe. Highly recommend their sliders and their truffle fries 🤤

Great location with staff that are super helpful. Finger food that was served to us was very tasty & nicely presented. Partied there until closing.

Lovely cosy atmosphere for a quiet drink with friends. Great cocktails, especially as one was created with my dietary requirements in mind -much appreciated! Tasty bread and dip too! Thanks Jarrod and team -we'll be back!

Great food and excellent service. Best to share the dishes so you can get a taste of everything. We’ll definitely be back!

Best cocktails in Auckland - Great bar man made the best cocktails we had in Auckland

Menu was a bit disappointing nothing really screamed out except the cheeseboard was fantastic and service was very good and fast even with a function going on
Doc Murdoch
Cleanest bathrooms in Auckland great view and an assortment of interesting people.
Chan Can Eat
Great space, average outdoor seating area. But the food really lets the place down. We had these devilled eggs from 1983 and some olives, that was about it for tapa styled nibbles. We had to go elsewhere to eat as this wasn’t enough. But of a shame
Never a good experience. Always slow, always bad service. Food is just weird. Got a roasted veg salad and added chicken and out came a veggie stir fry with Beetroot, Brussel sprouts and other vegetables that weren't Asian style at all - was such a confused meal and so off putting.

I like the cocktail bar feel with the high tables and chairs. It's a great place to have drinks and nibbles with friends. The set up is intimate but spacious enough.

They have an extensive drinks menu and a great food menu to go with it. The meals are reasonably priced with lots of options.

We had beef short rib and it was amazing. The beef was cooked medium, they didn't ask what we preferred though. The sauce on meat tasted creamy and it went really well with the dish. Furthermore, my boyfriend ordered mild wine and said it had a pinch of spice, warm and tasted fine.
Ambience was great too! On the whole, an excellent experience. Will definitely go again.

19/4/2017: Ok we are back 10 days after our first meal here. I've changed my rating and bumped it up to 4.5. This time i got the duck confit croquets and a side of kumari chips. Awesome from the from the very first bite! Came with chutney which went together just divinely with the croquets. My partner once again had the chicken schnitzel. The prices are also very reasonable and the food. It will be vert hard to feel dissapointed leaving this place.

9/4/2017: Pleasantly surprised. Had the Tuna Poke and it was delicious, beautifully dressed. Tuna was a teensy bit overcooked but had that lovely char taste. Really yummy coconut and lime dressing. My partner had the chicken schnitzel and that was also very pleasing ! Tasty salsa on top. Quite chuffed with this place and worth a visit if you are in the area!

Went there for late lunch, the food is always good, the service very friendly, nice and cosy to seat outside on a sunny day . I really like this eatery.

Really love this place, the food is well presented, the atmosphere is nice and cosy. The service was a bit slow but it was expected since they were quite busy even on weekdays. The waitress was very nice too, only problem is the portions were small and a tad pricey. But definitely worth a visit as the taste was definitely a 5/5

Sunday 16 October 2016 - Called in for the Waiters Race after party with my friend Peter, very quick service and a delis glass of Moet & Chandon Champagne, nice and relaxing surrondings. Have been here for dinner 6 years ago when it was Red Brick, Kitchen & Bar.

It was great to finally visit 46 & York - we had heard so many good things about it. The menu is simple but delicious & very well presented. The location is on Parnell Rise, and the interior is great with dark wooden floors & white walls - very cosy.
We enjoyed all our dishes with the surprise standout being the fries with garlic salt - yum! Their cocktails were also really great. We ordered 2 burgers with fries - a real homemade patty with lettuce & tomato. Filling but not heavy. Also the calamari, steak with mushroom sauce & waffles for dessert.
Service was unfortunately a bit hit & miss. Fantastic & welcoming upon arrival, but not consistently as good. One drink took ages to arrive (a juice took 20-30mins) but an apology was appreciated, and all was okay. We then had to keep waving our waitress down to firstly get a dessert menu & then order. A disappointing ending to an otherwise great night which has reduced our rating. Hopefully just a one off as I've only heard good things previously.

We had lamb cutlets and steak. Both tasted great. Lamb cutlets tasted much better though. I loved the place. So warm and cosy with a real chimney. The waiters spoke to fast. But may be it was the restaurant policy. I might go there again. Because I liked the environment.

Had the duck croquettes, beef wagyu, grilled butter nut salad and fries. Lovely flavors. I was really surprised that a small place like this produce such unique and distinct dishes. Wow!

The affogato dessert was a bit of a let down though sorry. I could taste icy bits in the ice cream and the coffee was too diluted.

Lovely service (Mr bartender/waiter has an impressive beard for a young lad) though. Great place for a dinner catch up with girlfriends 😆

We had a dinner reservation mid week night recently. First time at this place and was excited to see and taste what it has got to offer. Upon arrival place was really busy and warm inside - lucky we booked a table.
Tables were quite small, for 3 of us, we tried to put glasses and plates but would be good to have more space for groups, as we felt a bit compact.
Menus are a bit outdated in terms of prices - they went up a wee bit for most of the meals.
Food - quite good. However I have had a steak and it came out barely warm - cooked as requested MR, but the experience was ruined by the cold top of it and only slightly warm inside.
Burger was OK, nothing special and for the new price I wouldn't get it again.
Good drinks selection and inside atmosphere.
I would like to come back in summer and see how different it is then with all the cocktails and outside.

Went here with friends during the week for dinner. The ambience is impeccable, had a cosy fire place, and the staff were all friendly. We ordered a few tapas to share. Missed the opportunity take pics of these because everything looked too amazing to fuss with my phone and tell my friends to refrain from eating until I got the perfect shots. We had fish sliders, my fave!! Calamari, chicken skewer, meatballs and quesedilla. Every single dish was flavoursome. We've never eaten so much and stayed so late at a restaurant. We stayed in and had dessert, the perfection continued and I managed to take pics of these. Can't wait to go again soon!!!

Such a great spot. Excellent service, the food is delicious and reasonably priced and a great atmosphere!!
The espresso martinis are a winner.

46 & York is the best! I am here at least a couple of times a week and can honestly say the staff are so bubbly and attentive and welcome you like long lost friends. The food is superb I cannot fault it and so reasonably priced. I am very lucky to have this place as my local.

Came here for a lazy lunch having wondered what the change of management would bring. Have been here before when it was bearing a different name and had a mixed experience. The place wasn't busy and we had the pick of the dining area and decided to make the most of the nice sunny day and sat in the front dining area. Friendly and helpful staff helped us decide on our choices as most things on the menu read very well making our choice difficult.
We opted for the kumara crisps, wagyu burger and steak.
Each came with a mayonnaise of differing flavours and were cooked perfectly. The burger which should be had with the optional bacon was succulent, well cooked and one of the better burgers had in a long time This was accompanied well with fries and garlic aioli.
The steak was cooked medium and rested well and coupled with the cimmichurri topping was smoky with hidden notes of spice.
Dessert of waffles were crisp on the outside but fluffy inside with vanilla bean ice cream and spiced apple jam was also devine

Overall an enjoyable lazy sunday lunch and somewhere to frequent again.

Went there with my wife on Friday night for some drinks and a bite. We ordered a bottle of wine which was good. We then ordered dinner. I had the venison denver schnitzel and my wife had the wagyu burger. Food was good. I ordered a side of fries with my schnitzel but it came after we had finished dinner and our bottle of wine. That was a bit disappointing as a "Side of fries" is to be eaten with the main as a "side". In any case the waiter said they would not charge us for it which was nice of them. However I would have preferred to pay for it and eat it with my main. Overall we enjoyed the place (mostly the atmosphere) and would definitely go back again.

Great atmosphere. It is a cool place to have a few drinks with friends for sure. Somehow I haven't tried their food yet, probably next time .

Great location. Great food. Good casual atmosphere. Been several times, and will return many more. Good bar & bartenders. Good local.

Like many similar places, its just OK. The view is nice though! Pricing is standard, ~20-25 for a main. Staff is pretty friendly, often refills of water.
Love this place! Great service, food & atmosphere, with a great outdoor area in the summer time. Obsessed with their ceviche cups & sliders. Definitely one of Auckland's gems. Highly recommend. Make sure you book!

46 & York is a popular bar/restaurant located on the end of Parnell rise. The cheese platter was exquisite. Great place for a chill glass of wine with the girls!
Zamily
Came here with a large group of (mostly drunk) people. The staff were happy for us to take up the whole outside area, as well as putting up with our inebriated behaviour. The drinks were kept flowing and the atmosphere was great.

We'll definitely be back.

My work colleagues and I are always looking for new haunts. Someone suggested 46 & York the other day and we were sceptical to say the least. However what we found instead of the pretentious and over priced placed we expected - was incredible staff service, wonderful food and an attractive and impressive atmosphere. While we may have explored the wine selection thoroughly, our senses may or may not have been altered when it came to indulging in our meals - which were exceptional. On return to our awaiting partners - the staff ensured we all made it home safely. Safe to say we will be back soon, good job guys.

46&York great vibe proper top shelf drink without the pretentiousness some bars hold , good food menu also to make it an afternoon evening place to be ..... Bar staff young and vibrant always happy to help out and make your stay a good one 👍👍👍

Popped in a couple of times for a few drinks, always a good time! Perfect environment for a Sunday sesh! Super trendy interior, great vibes. The staff are always friendly! Would recommend.

first..... liked the look of the menu online after hearing a work friend mention great things. so thats a positive right?

second........ nice looking venue, a little unconventional but what is normal these days? it was smart, funky and clean

third..... this is where it gets rough :( the service was rather poor, not explaning what happens, demanding a credit card for security, I mean come now..... 3 people in for lunch and you demand a security bond?

forth.... the food was not the same as the online menu, which means its just been changed and not updated, which for me is very sloppy..... as we went there after reading what was online. and second, well it was just average average average. the only thing which was any good was a tropical style marinaded fish which reminded me a little of a beach in Samoa.
For the price, and waiting time from the kitchen we expected more.

add on top of that the totally off putting service, well... we will choose more wisely next time a new lunch spot.
Place does look good for a post work beer though. perhaps its really just a bar hidden behind a chefs jacket?

Was here on a Wednesday night on a recent business trip home from Shanghai. Really enjoyed the place, it was packed with a good crowd, we smashed a heap of half-priced Champagne. As good as any of my usual hang-outs in Shanghai or Hong Kong!

Went into 46 & York the first time other day to try the new rose ice blocks that i'd been hearing so much about and discovered this little Cute bar in Parnell that looks out over the city skyline. The ice blocks were so refreshing and went really well with a bottle of rose! The service was great, our waiter looked after us well by refilling our wine glasses for us and giving us blankets as the sun started to come down (such a nice gesture). I will definitely be back in the future to try out there food, which by the way looked delicious!

Just moved to Auckland a couple of months ago and was looking for my new local, a friend of mine suggested 46&York. First impression was Great, and have been back a lot. The staff are really friendly and have lovely smiles on there faces. They really seem to enjoy working at this classy establishment, and are very attentive. Now there cocktails are fantastic, defiantly recommend the botanical dream to anybody needing a refreshing drink! My fav is Moët half price on Wednesday! The food there is also great! Being a fitness and health professional, I like to have a nice good treat meal out and have had a few meals there, one of my faves is the sirloin steak and there burgers get the job done great! Happy to say I have found my new local, keep up the good work team! X
Travels4Food
Kind of disappointed as maybe I had high expectations for the food. The steak I got was not rested well and was cut too early and it was seating in a pool of blood. Double disappointment as the steak was not warm. The chimichurri sauce that went with it was flavourful but didn't accompany it as complimentary as I thought it would. The onion rings were yummy though and went well with the aioli.

The venison schnitzel was tender but the flavours didn't wow me.
The calamari was standard flavours and quality.
Overall above average quality but was not executed as well as it could be.

Booked a table for 10 - booking lost and we get stuck sitting at a bar table although it's Monday night and the place is empty. Food was average at best. Buffalo wings were great but never had a medium steak so chewy it hurt my teeth though. The venison schnitzel had next to no meat in it and zero flavour. The cocktails were fantastic but took over 30 mins at times. The rosé ice blocks are always a favourite. All in all I don't recommend it. I've been here multiple times in the past but this has left me very unimpressed this time...

I 100% love everything about this restaurant. 10/10. A+. E (if you're going by NCEA grading). Whatever. It was perfect.

First of all, the food is amazing. This is the second time I've been here and I ordered the exact same thing as last time because it was to die for the first time round and didn't dissappoint the second time either. I had the pork belly, and holy crap. It is hands down the best pork belly I have ever had. The aioli, let me tell you about the aioli. Everyone who dined with me the first (and second) time I was there, was mind blown. The aioli is another thing that is without a doubt the best I have ever had. And the chips were crisp. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food.

The quality of the food and the drinks, and the speed at which our orders arrived was all top notch. The restaurant is just as beautiful a space as the last time we dined there. Service was the thing that most impressed me. I guess that was the one thing I was really looking out for. With our previous experience, we loved everything except the service I guess. But that was 100% made right this time. Julian, our server looked after us and was super friendly. I was a little nosy and noticed how he tended to other tables and it was just as good as the way he treated us, so I feel totally comfortable praising the service and our server because it/he was so consistently tentative and polite and great.

Our drinks were perfect and arrived very quickly. The calamari was great again, I would like to point out I don't eat seafood- because I hate it, not because I'm allergic, but that calamari was really freaking good. I've tried some terribad calamari in my time, and yeah, no, this was really really good. Again, the best.

I don't really know what else to say. I love it. I don't care if it's unusual for people to give restaurants a 100% rating, but there nothing I found wrong with the place. The bathrooms are really nice. There is loads of parking. The food is great. The service was awesome, our server was professional and friendly and helpful and polite. Potentially one of the best service experiences I've experienced.

I would definitely consider this a place for venue hire, it's not too large where the place looks empty but it's not too cramp where no one can fit. Both times I dined there, there were a lot of people but it didn't feel over crowded. I want to try the outside part of the restaurant when it warms up more, which is slowly is.

I love it. And I'll be back.

Went here for lunch with two friends. We were asked for a credit card to start a tab. None of us use credit cards as we prefer to only spend the money we actually have so I asked if we could just leave our eftpos cards at the bar. We were promptly declined and made to pay via portable eftpos machine after buying drinks and after buying lunch. All up 6 transactions as we were paying separately. My food came quite quickly but after waiting to not feel rude started eating as it was going cold. By the time the last meal arrived I had finished and my other friend was halfway through his meal. Food was delicious and well priced but service was poor. Would not go back again.

Awesome place to grab after work drinks. Nice set up both inside and outside. The buffalo wings are divine. Service is always good. Will make this my Friday local.

Very fashionable and elite bar at Parnell
Amazing feijoa mojito. The Bloody Mary was spicy as asked for ! Good beer n wine selection
Staff and bartenders were friendly
The tapas menu should offer a bit more !
But a vibrant place for weekend wine and cocktails
Will definitely go back next weekend

This place is fabulous! a nice setting overlooking Auckland and very very intimate, the guys here have done and amazing job at making this place what it is today and the quality of service is second to none! it feels like being at home and is as sophisticated and upmarket as you would want a fine dining restaurant to be! I had the Wagyu burger here on a Sunday afternoon and it really did tickle my fancy! #g1 will definitely be back here for a nice meal sometime in the near future! and of course they do the best Sunday sessions ! I do recommend in the summer they host Sunday sessions that you can buy an entire package for including drinks and a lunch menu (maybe have a bbq on the outside with a chef manning it and sell vodka by the bottle) you guys have an exquisite area! utilise it!

If your looking for a nice quiet meal with your partner this is probably not for you as its a very loud and happening bar especially after work Fridays. Had the lamb chops for dinner they were on the small side but you got 5 which is more than I expected. They wee very salty but absolutely delicious. Perfect if you are just having a quick dinner with drinks

I hired out 46 & York for a party and we had the best night there. They were very responsive in the lead up and went the extra mile for us. It's such a good venue, excellent service, great food, really friendly staff and they worked hard to make it a good event. Definitely recommend it!
Thanks so much to Kelly for making it a fantastic night.

Cool place, food is good drinks are a plenty very well set out great for groups Friday night after work drinks gets busy but not too busy. Good atmosphere good surroundings great attentive staff. Keep it up!

We hired 46&York for a 40th birthday party and had the best night dancing to Dj Andy Jv's Tunes. The staff were very friendly and professional, they kept the delicious canapes & beverage flowing until close time. We would definitely recommend this stylish establishment for private functions. Thanks again to Kelly and the Team!

Celebrated my friends 20th birthday here with seven others. We seemed to be the only ones dining at the time (a Wednesday midday), so we were attended to immediately. Service was polite, yet fun. Birthday girl was given a shot of some vanilla liquor (bonus!). I had the dozen prawns, which were done perfectly, however a salad on the side would have gone down well with them. Had a taste of the calamari, although delicious, seemed heavy and definitely tasted like a deep fried food.
Well priced for the service and location. Shall be back.
Brian Castello
Came here for my anniversary with my partner, decor and food excellent, but was let down by the service. Walked in and was not greeted by anyone, eventually was given menus after 15 mins but took another 30 mins until I could get someones attention to place my order. Food came out promptly and was impeccable, notably the pulled pork tostadas. Service for the rest of the evening was ok. Will be back for the pork tostadas - please do not remove these from the menu ever!

Yeah...nah.

Starved for a decent watering hole on Parnell Rise, I was looking forward to coming here. 46 and York is pleasant to the eye and the space has been transformed in to a light airy feeling area. The service is attentive enough and the wine list is extensive.

However, I am not at all excited by the menu. Actually, that's a lie...I WAS excited by the menu but what I ordered and what came out were 2 different things. Portion sizes are small and not in line with the price paid for them and the wine list is pricey to say the least. The food felt like it was not made with love by a chef who could really be bothered. The toilets were clean and there is plenty of parking on surrounding streets.

All in all, a bit average. Go once, but there are nicer places to make your regular local watering hole.
Di
Great food, wonderful cider, excellent service! As the previous reviewer has said the service staff are very attentive. Probably would try the chocolate brownie pieces with icecream next time (instead of the very rich berry or citrus filled donuts).
Simon Smith
Two lunches in two days ....
That says it all ... Fantastic decor , food easy simple and quick and varied
Staff all young and attentive ( maybe slightly too attentive ) with great positive attitudes , a trait not seen in the service industry amongst the Gen Y that often
For the owners to individually introduce themselves on each day was an added reflection of the way they intend to run the show .
Well done Dana, JP & staff.
We will be back and we wish you all the best you deserve success.
Simon
