I got a house special, volcano pizza.
Nothing bad to say about the food it was excellent. The olives caught me (and another customer) off guard though as they came still cooked in the pips so watch out for that! Maybe it gives it more saltiness or something idk but it wasn’t a problem.
Only gripe might be the customer service? It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t spectacular either. They seemed a little preoccupied and tired. But it was the end of the day. Honestly I probably caught them on an off day or something.
Would be keen to go back and try out the rest of the menu. Tried some of my wife’s Tortellini and it was tasty too. If you want a safe bet I’d recommend the pizza. My one was nice and crisp whilst also having a decent ratio of bread and toppings. Nothing I hate more than getting a pizza with barely any toppings.

First time visiting last night. Small but homely- good for 2 people. Nice service. Decent amount of free on-road parking. Takeaway is cheaper than dining in. We dined in at $33NZD per pizza.
Bought 2. One was DELICIOUS and the other was underwhelming for its price but I wouldn’t rule it out, just try another one. Would go again.

Tucked away in Mission Bay is probably one of the most authentic Italian restaurant you can come across. Great food all round. Highly recommended!

Nice place with good Italian food...pasta is way overcooked and when I asked for the pasta to be al dente I was given a strange look...the fish soup was spot on...nice quaint for a couple to have good evening...they allow you to bring your own bottle of wine, yet you will have to pay for the glass

Nice spot for Italian with a nice small dainty menu for pizzas, pastas and mains more protein heavy. Had a nice lunch there with pasta/cannolina and fettucine arrabiata and a starter of fried chicken livers. Delicious.

It's a small bistro in the heart of Mission Bay. Had the spaghetti marinara,pizza garlic bread and it was yummy!!! I recommend this place for decently priced food and a very cozy atmosphere

I originally gave this place a 1 star review earlier in the year due to the waitresses not wanting my business 45 minutes before their closing time. Today I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. The pizza was delicious but what was even better was the service as the chef listened to my unique dietary requirements and was happy to make the adjustment.

Toninos is a classic for our family, particularly the blue vein cheese gnocchi. However i think over the years they’ve changed the recipe which is a bit of a bummer but still very delicious. First time trying their pizza and was very very good. Same goes with the presentation and taste of the tiramisu. Cake to cream ratio was a bit off but was amazing regardless.

Went to have a pizza with my 4 yo daughter and my husband. We did spend about 35 minutes and then ordered a second pizza. After a couple of minutes, the owner/manager asked us to leave the restaurant as he needed our table for other people. As he did not say a thing when we arrived (otherwise we would choose another place), I found this so disrespectful and outrageous. I have never been treated like this before. I will never be back at this place again, and I do not recommend anyone with children to go to this place. Instead, go to Portofino (1000 times better service and food).

Delicious and authentic italian cuisine in a gorgeous and cozy setting! Best pasta I've ever had and excellent customer service! We tried the garlic & cheese pizza bread, vegetarian pizza, and pollo pasta (creamy chicken & mushroom) and they were all amazing! The pizza is quite a thick crust and they're very generous with toppings, super tasty. All around fantastic experience, thanks Tonino's!

Tonino’s is a classic mission bay hot spot. Authentic Italian food with lovely staff. The ambience transports you to Italy and makes you want to book tickets to visit again. The picture I’ve included is the final morsels of a truly divine tiramisu that I thoroughly enjoyed. In fact order the tiramisu, it’s unapologetically good. Thank you for having us done with you. Tonino's make great Pizza. I don't care what anyone says, THEY MAKE GREAT PIZZA. I would recommend you order a Carbonara Main and Margarita pizza with a nice glass/bottle of wine. I would post pictures but I don't have any because why make a good thing wait? Maybe next time...<br/><br/>The staff are professional and nice. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates a well made authentic pizza.

Went to Tonio’s with my grandmother for lunch today, and the food was amazing! She ordered the chicken ravioli and I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs and the food was delicious, authentic Italian! The restaurant has an A rating on cleanliness and the owning is a very friendly man! I am definitely coming back for more!

Really lovely atmosphere close to the waterfront. The view is completely blocked by another restaurant, however the weather was spectacular and it was great watching passers by as we sat outside. <br/><br/>The menu looked appealing and for lunch we ordered the pepperoni pizza and a couple of beers. Service was efficient and friendly enough. The pizza was below average as it didn’t have enough pepperoni, and had wayyyy too much capsicum on it, which overpowered the flavor. The base was a little stiff and powdery, which takes away from the authentic Italian experience of eating a freshly baked pizza. Is it worth paying twice to three times the cost of a cheap takeout?... definitely not.

If hair in pasta wasn't disgusting enough, the attitude of the staff was shocking. He very loudly and rudely insisted that it is impossible for the hair to have come from the kitchen, as if accusing me of putting the hair in there myself, and made it incredibly uncomfortable for my partner and I to remain sitting in this restaurant. Of course, it was disgusting and I was not able to eat a bite of the pollo fettuccine I ordered, and on the verge of tears being upset at the staff's response, we got up and left. I offered to pay for the pizza that my partner only had a slice of, since the pizza was fine, but the staff insisted I pay the full bill with a 10% discount. When I said I couldn't pay for food that I hadn't eaten, he aggressively threw the receipt at me, yelling and asking me why he shouldn't get paid while holding up the hair that was found in the food up to my face, again insisting it belonged to no one he knew. It was so shocking and horrific. Tonino's was my regular Italian go-to and I've brought many of my friends and family here, but the way they dealt with this problem is unacceptable and unprofessional. I certainly will never return and strongly recommend you avoid Tonino's for the worst confrontational nightmare service that is truly awful.

A really small place, we were a group of 8 so we felt squished abit. We didnt have to wait long for our meals, fault would be that one of ordered drinks had seemed to be forgotten because we had to remind the waitress a few times other than that service was really great and we were looked after well. When the restaurant get packed it gets really hot and stuffy. Food was abit bland and pasta dishes was watery rather than creamy or cheesy. Very over priced for quality I thought but servings were generous as we shared dishes and couldnt finish main size dishes.

New fave place to dine. Everything was perfect. Garlic bread just right and not overdone like many places, seafood chowder so tasty with plenty of seafood and the polo fettuccine is the best. Staff were efficient and friendly. Will definely be regulars here

Went here with my friend the other night. The restaurant is pretty small but cozy, you can watch them cook from your table. <br/><br/>Service was average, no one really greets you as you walk in so it is quite confusing to know what you do. We got told to sit down and just waited till someone brought menus. <br/><br/>The food however is delicious! I had the gnocchi and my friend had the risotto. Highly recommend both as they were tasty and full of flavour. <br/><br/>I would come here again however I would probably get takeaway as it would mean no service needed.

Tiny & Tidy lil Italian place. Stopped in here for dinner one week night after having a few drinks & nibbles in a pub up the road and did not regret the decision.<br/>The staff were cheerful and friendly. As we already had nibbles earlier we ordered a couple more beers and went straight to mains. The King Prawns - Main portion was delizioso and so was the Calamari. We also had the large Tandoori Chicken Pizza which was not disappointing either.

This place is great. My parents have been coming here for years since their wedding anniversary - they love it every single time. They recently took me for my birthday and the pizzas are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. So much better quality than your average takeaway pizza. The staff were very nice and the aesthetic was nice (: will be back.

Below average food; very uncomfortable seating; poor service - staff were more concerned with socializing with each other than paying attention to customers, and didn't ask how the meals were (they had mixed up my order) despite being nearly empty; pizza is okay but the other (non pizza/pasta) mains consist of meat plus a salad that doesn't match the meal, and no carbs or veges; no water offered and if you order a non alcohol drink you will get it in a can rather than a glass with ice. <br/><br/>Very meh and not very authentic as far as Italian goes. Not classy at all (tacky if anything) yet they charge premium prices. I've given these guys a few chances but will not be returning.

Me and my friend are regulars for this place - I love the gingham tablecloths and the beautiful pictures of Italy on the walls. The staff are all so friendly and the food is delicious! The pizza reminds me of what I had in Rome itself, and there are so many choices! Definitely one of my go to pizza places!

Unfortunately not a great eating experience. I have been here several times before and must say that things have gone downhill. <br/>The waitress was ethier a mute or couldn't be bothered talking but she literally did not speak at all during our time at the restaurant. dropped menus at table. came back a short time later and stood over us with her pen and pad which I guess meant she was ready for us to order, no mention of the specials which we could not view on the blackboard as we sat outside. The food was very average, pizza was not Italian at all. Cutlery and plates were not cleaned properly and had bits of old food stuck to them. When we went to pay, the waitress did not ask how our meal was or thank us... once again she may have been mute which would explain the silence. Mission Bay is a beautiful place that is always busy and as a local it seems there is a real need for a decent,friendly place that serves good, affordable food that makes you want to go back.

i travel from Henderson to mission bay for two things first is the pizza at toninos simply perfection i tell them this each time that i go for the best pizza in Auckland so next time you are there simply order off the menu the SPECIAL PIZZA .<br/>IF you dont like what would be best describe as a supreme and what a treat it is ,well go get your $5 pizza from the hut .<br/>You have to pay for perfection ! First visit after driving past all these years. Short verdict - won't be returning!<br/><br/>Detailed verdict: we ordered 3 mains all very disappointing. The Quattro pizza (mushroom shrimp and ham) was anything but Italian! The base was your average Pizza Hut deep pan base, with tasteless toppings.<br/><br/>Risotto Marinara was a mess. The risotto was highly overlooked, the whole dish was tasteless.<br/><br/>Spaghetti Meatball, your average home cook would do a better job than that. The meatballs were dry and rubbery. Meat sauce is just tomato paste and mince.<br/><br/>Waitress was really unhelpful . She didn't know the difference between lime and cucumber. We each had to repeat our order twice before she got it. Never came around and checked on our meal until we finished dining.<br/><br/>It just seemed like no one put any dedication into cooking for their customers.<br/><br/>Pros: Good location good choice of music. <br/><br/>But unfortunately that's not enough to make us come back.<br/><br/>

I came here and explained that I was vegan and they let me know that the pizza bases were fine, and were very helpful when coming up with ideas for toppings. The pizza was delicious and so authentic tasting. It was great to see the base hand- stretched right before your eyes. The restaurant is tiny, but it has a nice warm atmosphere. The two male staff members were very friendly but the female was very sour and didn't smile once.

We've been here a few times over the years. While it's a small place which is often cramped - on busy night expect to be sitting really close to another table. But it is really worth it. Pizzas are delicious! <br/><br/>My partner has celiacs, and their gluten free pizzas are a really good size and delicious toppings.

Went to mission bay with no clue on where to have lunch. My wife suggested we go in and try. Luckily we went on a Monday afternoon when it was nice and quiet (we were the only customers). Salvatore the chef welcomed us with a smile and handed us our menu and suggested the options. We ordered a garlic bread, marinara pizza (small size), spaghetti with prawns and shrimp. Taste was great as I was expecting it to be. Overall very happy with the experience. can't wait to go back. Meals only cost a total of $52.

Phoned in a takeaway order for 3 pizzas + a lasagne and requested for it to be ready in 45 minutes, I arrived and they were ready. The quality was fantastic, plenty of toppings and great tasting. Unfortunately the food was warm at best, indicating that they had just started cooking immediately. Would recommend but only if you can pick up ASAP.

Such a great meal...amazing garlic pizza bread with the best artichoke dip (I didn't even know I liked artichokes!). And the Gorgonzola tortellini was just delicious...as a rule i don't eat pasta but man it was worth it. Had food envy of the other meals that were being served to other tables. Such a great little family friendly restaurant...and you can't beat the location. We will be back....hmmmm now where to start on the menu.

Love it, love it, love it! we eat there every week, and the meal is always great. excellent service, delicious food and wine, relaxing atmosphere. it's good to have a real Italian restaurant in mission bay and listen Italian speech while there :-) best pizzas! looking forward to be back. ciao!

My favourite favourite (did I mention favourite) Italian - in fact restaurant in Auckland. I just wish I lived closer. It is relaxed, it is casual but the food is outstanding! Haven't been for a couple of months and I am dreaming of the food. The pizzas are amazing. My favourite is the Calabria - simply mushrooms, cheese, olives and chili. I like it extra spicy! Their seafood chowder is the best! Also, try the gnocchi with blue cheese sauce - yum!!!!! Their prawns (with tomato and chili) are delicious too, as are their mussels. I have never ever been disappointed here, and neither has anyone I've ever taken with me. Try it!

They managed to squeeze 11 of us in, just, on a very busy and warm night. The staff were friendly, but took a 45 minutes before our order was taken. The general opinion of diners were that the dishes were very good and well portioned. Again, a delay in the meals being served probably due being so busy. <br/><br/>We all said that we would love to diner again, but not on such a busy night !

Better than the other Italian places in Mission Bay. Though only in the way that an itch is better than the clap. I don't go often as the quality of the food is not consistent, occasionally you will get a good pizza then the next time you find a reason not to go back for a couple of years. Had a nice pizza last week, nice base good topping tasty flavors.

This is the worst place to eat in Mission Bay: we had two plates of pasta - quite boring (its pretty hard to cook bad pasta) with some bland dolmio-type sauce.<br/><br/>The marinara risotto was awful.<br/><br/>Worse is the service - slow and lazy wait staff and a proprietor that abuses customers under his breath when paying.

If you want a true authentic Italian meal Toninos is the place to go. Fantastic food,warm friendly atmosphere and great service. Try the veal scallopine(they use real milk fed veal). Pizzas are the best I have had in NZ.
