Review Sunny Town - Auckland Central

A K
Ordered authentic Dandan noodle. The flavour was good, not too salty. There was not enough pickle. The portion was kind of small.
Geoff Trimpol
Simple menu. Order at cash. Pick up bowls/plates and napkins (sauces and chopsticks are on tables, but napkin section does not get filled). Food arrives quickly. Modern, comfortable seating, staff cleans tables promptly. Toilets are clean and well stocked, handicap lavatory has a few touch up issues. Food is very tasty. Dan Dan a little soupier than I like, but with the true flavourful zing of Szechuan pepper, sesame and peanut. Veg Bao remind me of my favourite Buddhist steamed bun shop in Taipei- a half order is two full servings of vegetables! I would definitely return again to taste the cold noodle. The families of Asians who are the majority of customers lend their mark of approval to the product. The staff even thanked me as I left, a small touch that was much appreciated.

The place is clean, the staffs are great, and there are plenty choices. If you don't know what to order, I recommend try the beef noodle soup (5 ⭐). It's really good, but not that spicy. If you like spicy, try dandan noodle (4 ⭐). The service is not that fast tho, but worth waiting

Delicious flavours, fantastic service and the food came out real quick...couldn’t get any better than that. Probably the best pork buns I’ve ever had. The bread was amazing too! It went so well with my beef noodle soup. A must go!

Came here for comfort food - noodle and dumplings. The noodle wasn’t memorable, I thought it could be better. But it’s economical food with 2-3 chunks of beef pieces for only $14.80? Can’t complain. The dumplings were more memorable as the fillings were freshly made (I don’t think the skin is but the fillings were good). The Sichuan broth is nicer than the plain seaweed (way too plain). Staffs here expect you to speak in Mandarin just because you look Chinese... And they aren’t friendly. Think of it as a typical fast food joint with zero expectations. You don’t even expect service in McDonald’s anyway, so it’s similar.

Nice & easy menu, went for the beef & rice. Was ok. Served quickly !

Really good for a quick bite. It's an order at the counter and sit down anywhere you like model - aka food court style. The food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. We had the sauced pork buns and beef noodles. Both were tasty. A bit dear at $10 for 4 buns, each small enough to sit snugly in my little Asian palm. The noodle soup was flavoursome, very soft tender beef. You get your own water, cutlery and bowls at their self service counters which are very well stocked

Authentic food, excellent decor, and great service. Sunny Town makes their dumplings fresh and in the open where you can observe. They also have an open kitchen. The food is delicious, with the perfect mix of spices. Definitely order the steamed dumpling, pork or vegetables as both are yummy. The spicy dumplings are not for everyone, but our daughter loved them. We loved the bamboo interior with comfortable seats. The service is prompt and friendly.

So awesome to see an open dumpling kitchen layout in town! A very asian style look and definitely attracts people in. The dumpling baos were indeed very soft, and as an asian it met all my expectations. The noodles were also very nicely balanced and if you're into spicy food i definitely recommend it. Very comfortable seating and generally good atmosphere.

Wow wow wow.... This is going to be my new go to & we only tired two things of the menu... The flavours of the shumai are out the gate 🤯 so amazing. Staff are awesome so friendly and the service is fast. Absolutely beautifully crafted pastry that you can watch being made at the window as you enter. Can't wait to try the soups. Will definitely be back.

I've been here 3 times already in 3weeks of auckland trip. This place is quite promising as u can see lots of customers everyday too. Anyway, talking about food. Shomai was little dry and too big. However Wonton soup was cooked by very clear taste of broth which very ideal, inside of wonton u can taste shrimp and pork which exactly same thing in shomai. Order wonton soup if u like dumplings. Spicy and sour glass noodle was good too but it sometimes undercooked or too sour, u can ask to adjust taste when u order.

Nice noodles and dumplings. Price isn't so bad. Clean and tidy. There're heaps of tasty Chinese restautant in the town but if you are looking for a good food AND CLEAN place, this should be the one.

It's now "Bao & Noodles" and definitely hit the spot! We were mesmerized watching them make dumplings in the storefront window. Delicious dim sum served up lightning fast in a fresh modern decor. Get a double order at least of the pan fried dumplings. Yum!
James Young
Nice location, hygienic, reasonable price. Tasty pork buns, freshly steamed and served. Glass windows showing the food being made. Will try more more food again. Recommend!

Delicious authentic dishes. We love the soup dumplings, and they have amazing soy and nut milks. Restaurant decor was cute and clean. One can find street parking right in front for a fee per hour.
Vinicius Tsugi
Best buns ever, especially the vegetarian one. Top tier noodles as well. The menu is small but they do everything to perfection.

Cute vibe and ambience. Service was friendly. Young crowd. The food itself was bland -would come here for social media or a snack but not a destination for food....
Rex Chen
Authentic Shanghai food, must try the juicy dumplings, reasonably priced and friendly service
Darren Big Belly
Ordered pan fried bao, steamed bao, youtiao, and congee.
Gave me the wrong bao but oh well. Food was decent anyway.
The congee is not the traditional way but passable.
Food 7.5/10

Pork buns were the highlight of the meal. They're probably the closest to a 10 in town. The sour glass noodles were alright. I liked the texture of the noodles and the spice level was just right for me. Pretty happy with the Shumai overall.

The timber-themed interior is very 'tectonic' and modular. Very nice, warm and welcoming as you walk in but you lose the sense of privacy as you sit along the middle island. Feels very crowded and cramped.

Price isn't overly expensive but it ain't cheap either. (I can a similar bun for a better value across the road at the Shanghai Takeaway).

Biggest let down overall is the taste inconsistency. I've came here several times and I don't think I've tasted the same bun/food more than once. Sometimes the buns or shumai is steamed too long, has too much moisture, too sour, dough is kneaded too long, buns dry, etc.

It is okay overall, a solid 3 for me.

Hazel B
Pork buns were watery and sour. It was nicely steamed, good service but did not meet my standards. The prawn shumai were alright.

The price is really good for the amount you got. Dan dan noodles is not the best I’ve had but the amount for the price is great. The pork buns are beyond expectations. It is freshly made and tastes great. Best pork buns in Auckland CBD 🥳
LilianMonaghan
Not a fan of Sunny town’s pan fried pork buns. They came not crispy and a bit soggy. Tried their other noodles and dumpling dishes as well, very average.

Delicious flavours, fantastic service and the food came out real quick...couldn’t get any better than that. Probably the best pork buns I’ve ever had. The bread was amazing too! It went so well with my beef noodle soup. A must go!

Bad reviews kept me away from trying this restaurant but my friend’s one glowing review convinced me to tried it out for the first time, to my surprise it turned out to be more delightful than I thought it would be. Food arrives pretty fast and the quality of the food fit it’s price. We had their prawn & pork wonton soup; spicy noodles as well as their date soy milk.
⁣⁣—————————————————⁣⁣⁣
Taste: 4/5 • Interior: 3/5 • Service: 4/5

My go to place for lunch. It's so close to where I work, which makes it irresistible to walk past. I love the spicy glass noodles, the shape of the glass noodles feel like hand made, not machine made, which makes me appreciate more. Other food are great too! The buns are soft and fluffy, the cold noodles are so flavoursome with their homemade sesame source, pork rib noodles are yum too! I also love their homemade soy bean drink, feels so good to wash down the food afterworlds.

Came here on Sunday lunch time to try a bit of everything. Their menu is simple and service is super fast. You order first when you arrive at the counter so there will be queue but you get your food instantly as you make way to your table. Our total bill was $65. The highlights were wonton in spicy sauce, pork siu mai, walnut soy milk and sauced buns. Beef noodle soup is quite average, might try their dan dan noodles instead next time. And pidan congee could do with more salt, century egg and less corn and bokchoy stems which I find a bit strange. I guess for $5 congee, I should not expect much. Average price for their main dishes about $14 so quite reasonable. Place quite small and busy, so might be harder for bigger group than 4 people to find spaces.

Not a fan of buns but i just love the sour noodle soup, very very yummy and descent.

Finally got to try Sunny Town after always walking past it and getting a whiff of the fresh steam everytime.
In terms of dim sum items, there’s not a lot to choose from so we just orderf the prawn and pork shiu mai and also the pork buns. they were both juicy and tender and the pork buns is not your usual bbq pork bun, these are filled with shredded saucy pork with a hint of five spiced flavour. Beware they are super juicy, wear a napkin bib if you can:) they also have dan dan noodles but we didn’t order that this time. Overall unique with good flavours.
Paul O
Nice clean interior, limited choice menu, open plan kitchen - all positive signs. Highly recommend the pork buns. Siu mai were very good but I prefer more prawns in mine. Noodle dishes were fine - but for the price, they needed to be better.

Called in here today (Monday 30 Sept 2019), been past several time & looks interesting, love the prep window, had a yummy bowl of black rice, but will b back. Very clean n modern seating area.

Came in with Jackie for an afternoon tea today because she said that she was hungry. I suggested the sunny town hot and sour noodles because I knew she'd love it and she did. The noodles were cut in a weird shape but the flavour was there. Price was also affordable and cheaper than most places. Today was buy one get one free soya milk. We tried the red date and the peanut ones. Peanut one tasted like the chinese peanut walnut dessert pastes you can normally buy at the asian supermarkets and it was also served cold, which did not help my opinion of it. Red date was quite interesting and really sweet. Would definitely come back to try all the other delicious and affordable menu items.

Went there at a peak time for lunch. I was surprised about the choices, only few options to order from. Noodle soup, dumplings and buns, those are all they have. Price was ok, a bit expensive but it is in the city center. But I really didn’t enjoy the taste of noodle soup, bland and oily.
Pig Cat
Five stars all for the fluffy juicy pork buns. I can eat up three trays by myself. Very high quality buns. Other dishes pale besides the buns. Forget the Bun's Hut. This is the real Chinese pork buns.
Crackerjacker
Went out to lunch here with a friend. You have to order first then take a seat which is a little different to most restaurants. I had the spicy and sour glass noodles can’t say it was amazing but my friend got the beef noodles and that was delicious. Also started with the baos and that made up for it. Was oh so filling next time I think it will just be the baos or the dumplings.
@foxysfoodfinds
@foxysfoodfinds
Food: Authentic Chinese dumplings and noodles.
Overall: Great food, well designed space.
Xceptional: Sauced pork buns - so so good.
You should go here: Definitely.

Went out for dinner here, pork ribs noodle and prawn & pork wonton soup and also have steamed pork bun as take away.. delicious meal with very good price.. highly recommend this place

This place has a very Din Tai Fung vibe. At first I thought that the food was pretty pricey but the quality, serving size, ambience and service make up for it in the end. No wonder this place is always packed - their food is amazing!

It’s a very modern looking restaurant, me and hubby decided to check it out the other night as my hubby loves buns and noddles. Personally I think service can be improved - lady from reception said we have to order our food at the counter, we said no problem but would like to sit down first to have a look at the menu and we can come back to the counter to order once we are ready, she just seems impatient, which made me feel unwelcome, food was okay.
Annie Low
A very modern Chinese fast food restaurant in town. Food was served super fast! Love their open kitchen concept, as you will get to see the chef cooking! They do not have many options for food, just the wonton, noodles , and bun. We ordered the mala spicy wonton , cold noodles, and pork bun. Pork buns were very average. Soya milk was great! Cold noodles are yummy too. The spicy mala wonton was okay 👌🏻
Lum Lum
eh. VERY MEDIOCRE AT BEST.
Well their decor is very cute and cozy. Absolutely love the whole bamboo/straw ambience- felt like I was a shui mai in a bamboo dim sum steamer. After seeing a fb ad I was drawn to this place as they make their own pulled noodles and buns, so it seemed promising. Their service was VERY FAST on quite a busy Friday night too so that’s great.

But their food. oh no no. I ordered the beef noodles to try and they sadly were a tad bland. Noodle texture was a bit strange in my opinion. The broth tasted a bit too salty as well. It did taste better after adding in some chilli oil, but honestly I left this place a bit disappointed. We also ordered the DanDan noodles and they were not great either. For the respected price, it’s standard for noodle dishes you would find elsewhere, but the taste of it was the let down. Might come back to try their baos however.

~ Came back again for a lunch. Service again was very fast, we got our buns as soon as we sat down. The fillings in both the vege and meat buns were a bit too salty. Noodle dishes again very pretty average. Their shumai was kinda good too.
The congee!! I didn’t try it but heard it’s so good and well worth the price!

Definitely see myself making another visit to try out their congee for lunch 😋😋
LuNa The TuNa
Tried the soymilk and buns, taste ok. Not as good as in China, but it's in nz, so i can still give 4 stars.
Service is friendly, environment is nice and clean. They always very busy, but service quite fast.
Brandon Huang
Tasty, and great atmosphere. The soup for the 担担面 was very good, very rich. Not sure about the bean sprouts on top though, noodles weren’t a good texture. We got the beef noodle soup with no meat, and that was a little plain.

I would recommend coming here for the atmosphere - the food is okay, and there are much better noodle locations throughout Auckland for cheaper. That being said, still delicious.
Tim Lee
It's an irony the staff are doing exactly the opposite to what their ZOMATO promo is trying to show.

service is quite appalling...
not customer orientated...
NO GREETINGS ON YOUR WAY IN, NO THANK YOU ON YOUR WAY OUT.
NO MENTION ABOUT WHERE TO GET CUTLERY, SAUCES OR WATER.
BASICALLY GET THE HELL OUT AFTER YOU FINISHED A MEAL HERE.
PERHAPS THIS IS THE COMMON SERVICE STANDARD IN CHINA...Once is enough.
Grace Huang
A Chinese restaurant with a more modern style.

Service: 5/10
You order at the counter and find a seat yourself.
The servers that brought the food aren’t particularly polite or anything, I don’t remember much.
The food was made super quickly but most of it is already premade.

Food: 6/10
We ordered the congee, the sauced pork buns, the beef noodle soup and the Dan Dan noodles.
The sauced pork buns were fluffy and had a juicy meat filling which tasted really good.
The beef noodle soup had chewy noodles but the beef wasn’t very tender. The soup was decent but not the best I’ve had.
The Dan Dan noodles just tasted like typical hot oil and was overall pretty average.

Ambiance: 7/10
The light brown wooden furniture and structures throughout the restaurant create a simplistic clean feel.
This place slightly resembles dintaifung back in Taiwan.
The wooden architectural structures hanging from the roof are creative and unique. They also catch your eye while you are walking past and helps differentiate themselves from other typical Chinese restaurants.
It can get quite hot inside the restaurant because of the steam though.

This place is a cleaner version of typical Chinese restaurants which provides a less intimidating environment for foreigners who want to try Chinese cuisine.
Ting Ding
Food is fine, but the owner or manager is very unfriendly. He rudely said “Eat what!” when we order, stared at me when I tried to have a seat for my child first. Seems like they don’t need any customers.

Been here twice, love their Spicy and Sour Glass Noodle Soup! Have tried the Sauce Pork Bun and the Black Rice Porridge, both tasted just average. They don’t have a lot of dishes to choose from the menu, so it’s not hard to decide what to have. Great environment, nice deco and clean tables, food takes less than 10 mins to arrive, friendly service, highly recommended for a quick meal.
Charis Yang
Great environment, very organised and good services. Foods are delicious and quite lightweight in taste. We ordered the black rice porridge, vege buns, and the prawn wonton. I recommend this place and will introduce to my friends.
Lizzie
Love love love this place - reminds me of a din tai fung with the ladies in the window making bao buns from scratch, super authentic! Had the cold spicy noodles and it was delicious - the whole menu is so reasonably priced and the interior is so stylish. Service is fast and the fast-paced atmosphere makes you feel like you have been transported to Asia. Can’t wait to come back!
Tian
Excellent service for a Chinese restaurant which is pretty rare. Food was served super quick. Ordered the pork buns, pork ribs soup, cold noodles and wontons. Cold noodles are especially nice during summer
J Eats
Got the recommended dan dan noodles and dumplings. Tastes just decent but nothing in comparison to the likes of Eden noodles. Decor is quite nice though.. Lastly, we were trying to figure out what exactly the foul smell from the kitchen fumes that gets ventilated right to the front of the store every time we walked passed which made us apprehensive at first.
Happie
I’ve been wanting to try this new place out, which looked promising because of its clean look, not to mention its long queue.
Plus, I have been craving for shao mai or siu mai for the longest time (Dumplings are more common in most Chinese restaurants.) so I took the chance today and was glad to find a spot. The place was almost full.
Taste (Pork and Prawn Shao Mai) - ⭐️⭐️ Found it too soupy and on the bland side. I was looking for the pork and prawn flavour but failed to find it.
The serving size was huge though.
Ambiance - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I like the setup and the lighting. It is very open and has a fresh and clean vibe to it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for their buzzer. It’s my first time to see a setup wherein the “order” will look for you when it buzzes provides you place it on top of the circle on the table.
Also, I was looking for small saucers or bowls for the sauce and chilli. I’m not sure if they ran out of it today or they don’t have one at all.
Would I go back? Possible, to try out the other dishes.
Maybeping
As a northern Chinese, i don't like buns namally, I wouldn't say I love their buns, but some of the 2 or 3 stars I think they are under dated.

The prawn wonton is exactly same what I will get in my hometown. Light and fragranced broth, pork and prawn fillings inside, with the crash of ginger and white pepper, nice and tender.
I never expect our wonton like the Cantonese style which are full of prawns.
I gave 4stars last time, this time I give 5 stars not because they are perfect on everything, just I think this restaurant worth more than 3.7score🙂
BTW l loved their prawn wontons!!!
noodles are just fine, they are a bit hard and chewy for me, I like soft noodles personally.
Vivian C
We ordered two Dandan Noodles (骨汤担担面) and it was absolutely delicious. We loved everything about the noodles, from the flavours to the texture of the noodles.

Service was extremely friendly and attentive, something I usually don’t have high hopes for Chinese establishments. However, all the staff we passed on our way out smiled at us and made sure to thank and farewell us.

Our noodles only took 5-10 minutes to come out which was very convenient. The layout and decor of the restaurant was beautiful, clean and comfortable.

Sunny town is a popular quick eats restaurant with a simple menu at reasonable prices.

My mother often takeaway their vegetable buns for us and they’re always super soft and freshly made!

They service a number of noodle options including beef noodles and my favourite dan dan mian. The service is very fast, we got our dishes within 10 minutes and the restaurant is also very clean and newly renovated.

Recommended for a quick meal!
😎
Have been here a few times and the service is always very good. The food is always fresh and served quickly. The veggie buns and the spicy cold noodles are amazing!
Steve Cleland
Fast, clean, delicious. Took me back a bit when they asked us to order before getting a table. The menu is very small but all of the dishes we had were very good. I will be going back.
Food2belly
Tried out Sunny Town to see what all the hype was. TBH I was slightly disappointed, 100% honesty. I can't comment about the other dishes but the Spicy and Sour noodles (5/10, $9.80) were so spicy and salty with very small portions. The price was cheap but didn't satisfy me. The soybeans were not cooked and still hard. Sadly they sold out of the spicy cold noodles. Perhaps, I will revisit in the future to try their buns and spicy cold noodles. But spicy and sour soups are not my thing.
Elisa Soerjadi
Loved the dandan noodles here. Noodles had a nice chewy texture and the soup was so flavorsome with a slight numbing taste. Also enjoyed the modern decor. The buns were so delicious and the bread was fluffy!
Annie Tong
Sunny town has great interiors and super friendly staff! The self service is intuitive and I love how everything is built into the decor! The flour/steamed food were delicious. The bao was sweet and meat was juicy. The shumai had yummy dumpling skin and soup meat filling, the seasoning could be richer it had corn and pea topping. The cold spicy noodle was yummy - luckily they had chili oil we could add to make it have more kick. The dan dan mian was soupy and tasted more like spicy soup noodle, maybe that’s what they were going for, but we were looking for something more exciting. None of the dishes were spicy at all, so if you a fan of spicy you may need to add condiments. Beef noodle soup is good, broth is just a soya base. Portions are very generous for the price, so pleasantly surprised!

Came to try this place not too long ago. Service was fast and efficient, we got our order reasonably quickly. Taste wise, the beef noodles was nice and tender while the soybean milk was to my liking. The three choices of flavours for the soybean milk that they had was a definite bonus. The buns were OK but a bit pricy... 10 bucks for 4 buns. There were quite limited options to order from the menu, I would've loved to have more varieties to choose from. Overall this place is not too bad and I personally would definitely try this place again.

These sorts of places remind of the Chinese establishments in malls across Asia. The setup, lighting and most importantly the fan smell right outside the store.

This place had been on my list to try for a while now ever since I caught eye of it a few weeks ago. Finally finding someone to go with me, we ordered the Dandan mein, Siao Mai and the Seafood wonton soup. A few things stood out for me, how quickly our meals came out, the broth of the wonton soup tasted authentic and impressed me with how familiar it felt with the soups you would get in Asia.

Personal recommendations will be the Dandan mein and Wonton Soup.

Showstopper: Authentic Chinese food with great pricing and modern décor.

Overall Food: B+
Linh 💛
Sunny Town is quite mediocre to be honest. The vegetables bun is the best thing out of the three dishes I ordered and frankly it needs a bit more seasoning. The prawn dumpling has more pork than prawn as its filling and the wrap is chewy. When I bite into a steamed dumpling I kinda like the juiciness of it but this dumpling is so dry. The beef noodles soup is salty, oily and the beef is not at all tender. The only good thing about this bowl is the noodles itself, it’s very delicious.

Service is what you can expect from any Chinese restaurant. You pay before dining and don’t be upset if you have to wait a long time for your order to come or if they forget one of your dishes.

Won’t be returning. I’ll take my money to Dominion road if I crave Chinese food.

Craving for some delicious baos? Sunny Town Chinese Restaurant in Auckland City has the perfect hand made pork and vegetable buns to satisfy your cravings! I highly recommend their pork buns & beef noodle soup if ever you happen to stroll along Lorne Street!

I found the filling of their pork bun to be quite unique in its taste. It’s a lot sweeter than salty in comparison to most pork buns you’ll find in other Chinese Restaurants. Definitely a ‘must try’ in my books!

Their beef noodle soup is probably one of the best ones I have found in Auckland City! Their handmade noodles were cooked to perfection, easy to chew on that paired beautifully with their beef broth packed with flavour!
Overall, this place is very affordable and you get your money’s worth with the big portions of food given! The place is constantly busy every time I visit, so make sure you come off peak times if you’re not someone who likes to wait in line. The service of Sunny Town is not your friendliest, however food is served to you very fast and efficiently. As soon as you’ve ordered and found a place to sit, your food is served to you within a 2-3 min!

Food: 8/10
Cleanliness: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Ambiance/ Interior: 6/10

Great service. Friendly staff. Fun place to eat. Tidy environment.

The food doesn’t taste as good as the best in China. But it’s not bad chinese food for NZ. Love the steamed buns from this place.
The stores aesthetic is very different from most Chinese restaurants. And there’s usually a line outside which we managed to skip today.

Wish they had a slightly bigger menu/different spice levels or bao zi fillings.

Otherwise a nice place to get a takeaway for a uni meal ☺️

The setting of this place is beautiful. Very nice inside and it’s cool seeing the chefs cook. If you want reasonably price and fast food come here for a try. They have a small selection and also do takeaway

Busy restaurant! Luckily we just beat lunch rush hour and was squeezed into a small table for 2 people + 1 seat. Simple and cool wooden decor , with one side of the room decorated with a large mural. It is more comfortable to sit in the middle seats, rather than on the sides!

The baos and prawn siu mai were delivered almost immediately after sitting down (and placing the buzzer on the table) which is great!! Customer service was also good and attentive. Only issues were that I personally found the pork meat in the baos and noodles too salty - which overwhelmed any other flavour. Everything else tasted OK!
Foodie J
Finally we have some authentic Chinese “fast” food here. Fast service and mostly importantly the layout of the shop has a modern touch. Open kitchen gives this place more vibe. Love it.

Probably was the hot and sour one.
Came here for dinner, and the first thing you notice is their setup - you order and pay upfront, then get seated and place your little buzzer on a plate that magically sends it's location and attracts food. Well I royally messed that up, but the waitress kindly watched, smiled, and fixed my mistakes. I also couldn't figure out how to order drinks or dessert, but I'm not used to this style of restaurant so it's probably me.

Anyway to the topic at hand, the dumplings were delicious and juicy, just right in my opinion. I got a spicy Dandan Noodle and it tasted great (and spicy), but the noodles weren't as perfect as some other stores.

Overall, a really good restaurant with some great tasting dishes and great value for money. They don't operate like a typical restaurant so you'll face some culture shock if you're not Asian like me, but you'll get over it when you taste the dumplings.
Kylie
I’ve been a bit intimidated by the long lines here so I haven’t tried it until now, but surprisingly the line moves super fast. It’s a bit different setting to a lot of other restaurants - you have to order the food first then you get a beeper thing that you put on a mat on the table, which tells the waiters where to bring the food. Like others, I thought that we would have to collect the food when it’s ready, food court style, but a waiter told us what to do when they saw we hadn’t placed the beeper properly.

We didn’t expect to order so soon (I thought we were waiting to be seated) so we kinda panic ordered whatever looked decent. We got dan dan noodles, spicy and sour glass noodles and cold noodles. Everything was pretty good, but next time I wouldn’t order the dan dan noodles and glass noodles together since the soup flavour was very similar. Everything tasted pretty good though, especially if you love spicy food like I do.

I saw a lot of other people ordering buns, I wish I had got some too but I’ll definitely try them next time.

The price was not too bad, around $33 total. I remember the dan dan noodles were a bit pricier, like $12 or $13 but the other two dishes we got were less than $10. Would be great for a quick, filling meal.

The service wasn’t amazing but decent enough. It was definitely a super fast-paced vibe, and even though it was really busy at dinner time the food came very quickly. Overall, I would recommend trying this place!

The worse customer service ever had! When I enter the restaurant, was waiting for a while coz two waitress were chatting. I order one dish of steam buns takeaway , request for in two separated boxes. But the lady who took order seems like my request is ridiculous!! She said ok as we are not busy, so we can do it for you. Excuses me? Isn’t satisfied customer needs are basic customer service ? So is that mean if they are busy, they could not take any order with special request??? Even just a extra box??? How hard is it to separated four steam buns in two boxes???? I highly recommend the owner carefully hiring staff, as front line waiting staff are directly service customer and customer service impact most on satisfaction in hospitality industry !!!!!!!!!!!!

one of the best steam buns in Auckland, just like we had in China, love the vege buns! Cold noddle was testy but the Dan Dan noddle was just so~so, my boy (4yrs) loved the wonton soup,he finished the whole plate by his own. Service was quick and efficient the place was packed but still looked clean and everything in order

Came here for dinner and ordered the siu mai, beef noodles and spicy wontons. The beef noodle soup was tasty and flavoursome and the noodles had a good chew to it. The wontons were fresh and although it looks very spicy, it wasn’t spicy. Just a small amount of heat. The siu mai tasted exactly like the wontons though.
The store is a cool concept and it reminds me of China. Give this place a shot if you are looking for a cheap meal.

The new restaurant on Lorne st has nice decorations, but the service is very poor. The cashier kept playing mobile phone , even when he was taking order, he never looks up at the customers, very impolite. We are only allowed to the seats after ordering food. The food tastes not very bad but overpriced. We will never been to the restaurant again.

This new authentic Chinese restaurant on Lorne Street caught my eye because I saw people lining up to get into the restaurant 😮

Tried dandan noodles and it tasted alright but there was no wow factor. Noodles were chewy and absorbed the soup well 👍🏻 quite a big portion of noodles also. It wasn’t spicy at first but the more you eat you can feel a slight spiciness coming in. I personally think it was a bit too salty though.

Didn’t try the buns but they handmade buns upon orders. A lot of people ordered buns along with the noodles. It comes in 4 buns so it would be good item to share with friends.

My friend and I were a bit not used to the setting of this restaurant as we had to order first, get a device, find a place to sit and waiters would bring you the food. At first we thought when the device had lights blinking then we had to go out to get food so it was a bit confused without instructions.
>> it would be great if the waiters explained to us once we entered/asked us if it was our first time coming and then explained the whole setting.

Food: 3.5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3/5

Their sauces pork bun was super delicious😍highly recommended.
The black rice porridge was too sweet for my taste but still not bad.
Highly recommended for those who love Chinese food.

Checked out Sunny Town tonight and we tried an assortment of buns, siu mais and beef soup noodles. The siu mai was juicy and plump and char siu pork buns are also very flavourful! I'd probably go back to try their wontons!

Because of New opening restaurant I and my friend try. Soybean milk really bad and for $5. Service is really dissatisfying and traditional Chinese management style

A very classy but affordable place to eat. We had to wait outside for a few minutes to get in. You can see the how they make the buns through the window. The service was really fast and the food was good!!! Highly recommended!
