Review Gloria Jeans - Auckland Central

Mauricio Kimura
Location is great, near many restaurants and close to Albert Park. Had a flat white and it was well prepared at the right temperature. There is an additional area on the left towards the toilets with comfy seats and couches. WiFi is available in decent speed. Outside there are umbrellas and seating. Nice to take a break in the middle our busy schedules.

Coffee could be better/stronger. But the Wifi is absolutely excellent and there are a whole bunch of power plugs and sturdy tables, so this is really a great place to get some work done if you're on the move. Only 4 stars because of the coffee.

Jan 2020: One good thing about this place is that it is open at the beginning of January, when many places are closed. It is also quite nice to work in. The Danish was dry as hell and the coffee is average. When I asked the waitress for the WiFi code she told me that it is written at the entrance. Today the bathroom was out of order. I think of this place as a compromise out if necessity. Jun 2021: One of not many places in CBD for work. If you just after coffee and free WiFi it's a place to be.

Really nice coffee shop with great seating area out the back. Very comfortable and great coffee too with friendly staff!

I was looking for a place to have a nice coffee before continuing with the shopping. There are plenty in Lorne St to choose from but then I saw this café’s chandeliers and I was sold. Just what I needed: good coffee, fast service, relaxing atmosphere and chandeliers 😉

The ice coffee here is sooooooo good. I use to order all sorts of coffee but if you’re here get the ice coffee! Tastes delicious and creamy. Service: 4/5 Environment: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Drink Quality: 4/5 Drink Quantity: 3/5 Price per person: $5-$10

The environment is very suitable for Internet celebrity check-in。

I'm on the other side of the world and randomly stumbled on this place by cruising maps street view feature from boredom. But I must say all the food pictures look so amazing and are making me so hungry I had to leave a review. Keep up the good work, other side of the world people. One day I'll come there in person and eat everything. Everything!!

Excellent coffee place. Far more relaxed than Starbucks and Co and more friendly priced as well. Glad I walked in. Friendly staff!

Overall this place is lovely. Good staff. The only down beat to this joint is that a lot of customers show up in one go and so the people (e.g. Staff on board) do struggle to process orders. However, whilst a bit slow for a city - they do pick up the pace and apologize for anyone that had to endure long waits. The city always makes nicer coffee and has better options and good corporate crowds in comparison to the suburbs.

Coffee is amazing and the Almond Crossiant is delightful. Service is first class and no matter who serves you its always a great experience. Coffee outside under the trees is a great way to watch the world go buy. Fantastic Experience.

Great cafe! This cafe has been well designed and laid out. It comes with enough space for any group size. It has seating for students wishing to study, electrical points to charge your phone, shiny see through seating and amazing chandeliers. The coffee isn't bad either!

Good service during lunch period. Breakfast.menu has good range and family ordered French toast and salmon eggs Benedict which looked delicious. Good space as well for meetings or groups as had nice lounge area at back

@ Federal wanted a large coffee got a very small one -when asked I got ignored and threaten for trespass

Unfortunately food came served cold and coffee never arrived at table. Had to go up twice and ask for coffee. Nice atmosphere.

This muffin was soo gooey and chocolatey

Honestly the WORST service and drinks- <br/>I don’t know about the meals, but I remember the first time I came here the coffee tasted so bad. I came here for the second time because I had to finish my work asap and since they have good interior and wifi. So for the second time, I ordered a different iced drink, expecting to it be better, and still, it wasn’t even cold (room temperatured) and my order got mixed up w someone else’s although the cafe wasn’t even busy. The waiters/waitresses were acting as if it was my fault; they truly don’t deserve working here. Even I would deal better w the customers and make better drinks - <br/>Whoever the owner is, please hire someone who are skilled or at least have manners.

My go-to place for coffee and lunch if I’m at uni or work. Outdoor seating is great but there are so many little bugs flying around. <br/><br/>Indoor seating is much tidier. Food and coffee is pretty decent. Cold brew with lemon wedge is 👌 💯 portions are decent too.

Nice location for a quick meeting/catch up/study over coffee or tea. I enjoy their chillers, I recommend their Original iced Chocolate, Iced Choc Biscuit and Strawberries & Cream Iced Chocolate chillers, otherwise I’m happy with their Long Black or Americano (if I’m broke), or chamomile tea (If I had too much caffeine already).<br/><br/>Service is alright, could be better sometimes.<br/><br/>Interior inside is modern, with the counter side of the café brightly lit and clear plastic chairs. The otherside of the counter creates a more cozier yet spacious atmosphere with couches and a beautiful chandelier resembling lighting. The outside area is not so great as you can smell cigarettes and tables/seats seem dirty.
Andy
One of the more classy coffee places to visit in the city. Although the level of service varies, the menu choice never disappoints, as is the case with the coffee itself. I would struggle to recall another place offering such comfortable seating.

The coffee tasted good but that Chinese cashier worker was absolutely rude and had a bad attitude. Very disappointed and got offended i usually grab my coffee from here but not anymore. It clearly showed that she didn’t want to work and deal with the customers.

I used to come here to drink coffee and read poetry with a friend! Great mornings~ The ambience is very peaceful and cosy - the environment itself is very large and warm! Perfect for a rainy day or just a wanting a little place to escape. Their coffees are soothing and their staff is very friendly! A relaxing place to enjoy some good drinks and to chill out! Would love to come here again, but we’ll see when university lets me :((((

Experienced the worst service ever. <br/>Unprofessional. Owner and waitress closed the cafe while we are still inside. Only good thing they provide is free wifi.
Esther
sucky iced americano<br/><br/>real gross <br/>could only have max 5 sips (and 4 were cause i didn't want to waste my money) <br/>pls some thought and effort to make it taste like one

I really like their ice coffee. I don't normally drink coffee coz i don't like bitter.... Even mocha i still need to add sugar... But this ice coffee was super nice and full of milk, creamy sweet but still have coffee flavour. Decor pretty nice and modern, jusr too many flies at outside seat area.

Iced creme brûlée and cookies&creme fraps. So nice and cooling. Reasonable price about $8 for large size. We usually use the Entertainment Book vouchers so even cheaper as buy 1 get 1 free. Fast service. Lots of place to sit, full of students.
Emily
A nice cafe to hang out in, especially as a student. Free wifi, and plenty of seats.<br/><br/>I got the iced mocha with crossaint. Just overall nice cafe food and drinks. Nothing amazing, nothing bad.

The coffee and the pastries are generally good here. Unfortunately, they have no way of heating pastries other than the microwave; microwaving makes lovely baked goods into mush. Other GJs have better provisions for this.<br/>Additionally, and worse, there is cigarette smoke everywhere. The biggest draw of Gloria Jeans "flagship" café on Lorne Street is the lovely, tree-shaded courtyard of Khartoum Square. Under Council rules this year (2019), no smoking is permitted at these outdoor tables. A month ago all the tables were clearly labeled "NO SMOKING". Those signs are now gone, and smokers sit wherever they want. One of the employees was actually sitting on the steps of the café, right by the door, so that even indoors one could not escape the smoke.<br/>They need to do better.
Jason1202
Experienced the shocking service ever, ordered one coffee and smoothie and demanded to wait there to pick them up by head waiter. Got a plastic take away cup with coffee even told him in a cup. Politely told waitress to remake it instead they just poured it into coffee cup and you have to pick up by yourself. Coffee tasted worse. Saw customers next our table they got serviced by another polite waiter, I guess we are so “special”? Not recommended at all. Serving coffee with attitude!! Good luck your guys.
Coffee Addict
Good location and good trading hours<br/>Wifi is so slow... <br/>Price is very expensive... <br/>It seems like they have changed the coffee beans and machine I guess..?<br/>However, it still taste the same... <br/>wonder they even change their syrup bottle cuz it looks so old.... <br/>customer service? no greetings and every staff looked tired of their job and the chinese man was so rude.... <br/>They should really do something about the bird coming in... like close the door...? <br/>Also, remembering they did shisha before... I saw the Hookah like next to coffee machine and sometimes at the back.. Was that for actual sales or decoration.. it looks much better without that.

Good calm atmosphere, good for studying which is what a lot of people do already. Service is good. They close really late which is something I like

One of my go to spots for coffee! Drinks are quite expensive, however, its worth it for the ambience and the quality of service that is provided! The staff are super friendly and I always come here with my friends at least once a week. It is located in a really convenient place, close to the universities and queen street. I give this a 5 because im quite biased, but here is my take on the place:<br/><br/>PROS:<br/>- Very tasty drinks<br/>- Friendly service<br/>- Good ambiance<br/>- Convenient <br/>- Typical cafe food<br/><br/>CONS:<br/>- Expensive (they offer a 10% discount to students)<br/>- Can get crowded and busy during peak hours <br/>- You have to ask for the toilet key since it IS a public toilet which can be a nuisance, but its necessary
Donna
I love their hot chocolates and their eggs benedict with bacon! They also have a nice range of cabinet food like croissants and slices. They have a huge seating area and you can always see students studying away on their benches.
Its Me
Open til late less crowded than the cafes on queen st and i think i can clearly see that they are student friendly ? So maybe it's a good thing I guess? Every time I come here I see lots of students & ??maybe workers?? having their laptops & books out trying to do something.. me ? I be there trying to eat lol haha

I'm a loyal customer at Gloria Jeans High Street store but since they've closed down I thought I'd try the branch on Lorne Street which I'd noticed is always very busy during the week. <br/>The soy mocha I ordered was average. The barista wasn't very inviting she almost looked mad. Maybe it was an off morning for her so I won't let this experience stop me from coming back. <br/>Comfy & warm place, would be a good space to catch up with friends over coffee.
Jun Ma
I order ice chocolate and this guy service was friendly and the drink he made was very yum even though how can you go wrong with ice chocolate lol but yeah I would recommend here as there is WiFi and comfortable seatings for a chill date or a quiet study place.

This cafe has some decent coffees and drinks. My favourite drinks to get from here are Original Iced Chocolate and Cookie Crunch Choco Chiller! I heard their food is also pretty nice too.
Darren Big Belly
Polite staff, good setting. Lots of students seem to come here to study. There are comfortable couches as well. One of the bigger cafes around. They have large tables outside for smokers as well. Accessible and convenient location.<br/>Peach and mango iced tea was pretty good.
Sophie
Can get kinda pricey but the drinks menu is pretty legit. Also a great spot to set yourself up at to study or catch up with people. Heaps of different seating options
Anina Van Der Walt
I don't think their cabinet products are fresh. I bought a custard slice for $7.50 and it tasted very strongly of sour milk :( Yeah I don't recommend the cabinet food, but I've heard their coffee is good

[in the tone of Billie Jean]<br/><br/>Gloria Jean's,<br/>not my type<br/><br/>It wasn't cheap,<br/>and the bagel<br/>was hard.<br/><br/>And my hot<br/>choc was<br/>not hot.<br/><br/>-<br/><br/>Taste: 2/5<br/>Presentation: 2/5<br/>Service: 3.5/5<br/>Ambience: 5/5<br/>Price: 1.5/5<br/><br/>

The interior is spacious and eye-catching. Service is fast and the staff are super friendly. The coffee from the Lorne Street branch is amazing! Definitely doesn't taste like your standard franchise coffee. This is definitely my go-to for coffee in the city
Jonathan Bangera
One of my favorite cafe chains around the world. The coffee blend never ceases to impress and the baristas here are really cheerful giving you a prompt yet pleasant service.
Masterwayne12
Great location, coffee is average with expensive price tag. Iced coffee $7-8 which is outrageous. Food is very average as well, something to be expected in very cafe really. Clean individual toilets.
Heui Jin
They should really do something about the smell of smoke coming inside the cafe <br/>Asked the manager if I can close the door but said no as it gets too hot inside the cafe. <br/>
Angela
I love coming here to study! The music is played quite softly and there is usually just a quiet chatter around the store. It's also very spacious and I love their frappacinos. Staff are very kind and I love how they open late - giving me great cramming opportunities!

This place is a really good place to study if you have noise cancelling headphones. There’s free WiFi and nice tables too. Gloria Jeans coffees like all other coffees are pretty pricy. The ones I get usually range around the $6 mark. <br/>I love their fruit chillers and their mocha chillers. My partner always gets a boring Americano. So together we spend around $12 just on drinks. I haven’t had food here so I can’t rate on that. The staff are pretty friendly too. Plus they have to unlock the bathrooms for you. <br/>I love the little corner with the fluffy rug and the chairs. Has a really nice look to it.
Quinn Mai
Great coffee. I love the iced latte, strong enough to wake you and not making you hyper active. Lovely vibe. Fast wifi. The decor is eye catching. Suitable for working/ studying. The location is great. Nice staff. We always opt for this cafe when it comes to studying for tests.

Used to come here very regularly at one time and never left me disappointed regarding all aspects..be it service, quality of food, standard of coffee or price etc. And now sitting still in the cafe as I write this I can honestly say it's good to see nothing has changed. Service was quick and with a smile, the cost is as I would expect , the place is kept clean and good atmosphere. I ordered what I always had here which is the Mocha Caramel Latte and it came with the nice little design on top and tasted just as good as I remember. I have had something's to eat here in the past and all was good. Only downside as I have found before here is as it was today, that the area with all the nice comfy soft seating was packed out. Ah well...
Lukas Montecristo
Great place for lunch time coffee catch ups and for your expected cafe dishes. <br/><br/>The chefs here go out of their way to ensure the dishes are served with quality.<br/><br/>For me, This Gloria Jeans eliminates the "franchise" aspect of the brand.<br/><br/>Great place

Came here on a Saturday when we had a BYE for rugby. I was with mum showing her around the city and explaining to her what the student life was actually life. We came here to not to get a Hot Chocolate but we got something else, we ended up getting a small espresso. And from what I recall this was the third time I tried an espresso. Needless to say it was quite strong, despite being a lightweight coffee drinker. <br/><br/>The service was quite busy for a Saturday morning, but we managed to get our order in under at least 4 mins. Which was quick coming from a busy cafe.<br/><br/>Looking from the outside, it's quite hidden coming from Wellesley St, turn to the corner and there it is with its doors wide open for easy access. Their decor, tables, chairs even flooring are quite flash like you're entering some sort of office building even though you'll be seeing a coffee machine and a lot of people, they also have an extra dining area in the inside which is pretty legit for those busy days.

Nice coffee shop tucked into one of the by lanes of Auckland city.<br/><br/>Aroma of coffee welcomes you to the shop which is quite spacious and has adequate seating inside as well as outside. There was a huge array of deserts available in their showcase which can make those on a diet change their mind.<br/><br/>1) Caramel latte : Nice refined coffee which was smooth and had that lovely flavour of caramel in it. Also u can specify to them if you would like your coffee strong or normal whichever suits you.<br/><br/>2) Caramel slice : Being a caramel lover I had to try this. It had a nice base at the bottom which I think was made with a mix of oats, grains, coconut and some breadcrumbs. On top u had the had that heavy layer of caramel with another layer in between of coconut I think. On a whole it tasted really nice.<br/><br/>Nice place to hang out and chill with some friends when time permits.<br/>

Service was subpar as waitresses ignored us twice. Wifi was trash. Coffee was served in a takeaway cup, when we asked to have here. Below average experience.

Would recommend Cocoa Loco!<br/>It was awesome! I could still remember the taste on my tongue. I would always stay here to wait for my friends. My favorite rendezvous as I loved staying here. The ambience is the best among all the coffee shops in CBD.
Jade0289
This Gloria Jean's is attracting people with its spacious& bright ambience. And stuff are always being happy, energetic and welcoming. <br/><br/>In terms of food and coffee, I would say they are not bad, yet not outstanding. I tried the Mocha Truffle today and it was a normal Mocha to me. Couldn't feel anything different from a standard Mocha.
Gelainedreyes
Food is overpriced. I got eggs on toast and they were the greasiest eggs I've ever had. 12$ isn't worth the eggs on toast. Decor of the place is good.
I_like_pickles
This Gloria Jeans is so fancy. It doesn't even have the same feel and ambience as its chain store counterparts.<br/><br/>It's such a lovely space to catch up with friends or read a book with your favourite beverage. <br/><br/>Staff are friendly and service is pretty quick. The place is really clean and tidy.<br/><br/>Got a white hot chocolate here, not the best white chocolate I've had but it was good. Creamy but a bit on the sweet side for me.
Josh
The much much better Gloria Jeans. The staff are friendly, the lighting and atmosphere is great, the coffee is decent and best of all, free wifi! The wide open doors and large windows are perfect for a relaxed but refreshing indoor experience. Compared to the High St branch, this place actually functions well.
Neil Fibbens
Opens into the evening with a relaxing atmosphere, the chocolate was one of the best in Auckland. The staff were prompt. General excellent all round.

I've walked past several times and thought that the location is great  with big doors opening out onto Khartoum Place and that the cafe itself looks really interesting with the unusual light fittings, the glamorous perspex chairs in one corner, and a large area to one side with comfortable couches. What held me back was that it's a franchise. <br/>Today I took the plunge and went there for breakfast. I wanted porridge but the menu behind the counter only offered muesli. When I ordered the muesli, I was told they now did granola and then I  found on their printed menu the porridge option, so was happy to be able to order that, though somewhat confused as the two menus hardly match up. Currently there is a 15% discount on breakfast orders so that was an added bonus.<br/>My medium latte was very average. The porridge was good though such a huge helping that I left half.  The service was friendly. It was quiet while I was there and is a lovely space to spend time in, not sure what it's like when it gets busy though. The customers on the couches in the next room looked settled in for the day with their laptops, I didn't see any movement from there the entire time I was in the cafe.
Food 24/7
Nice atmosphere and decor. The place was<br/>Not too busy so it did not take long for my order. My mocha was good but not amazing and slightly more expensive than other coffee shops .
Veronica Te
Best Gloria Jean chain I've tried yet. The coffee tastes good unlike other Gloria Jeans stores I've tried. The food is naturally over priced but I must say it does taste good. They have a really large open space where uni students tend to flock to and study/chill out between lecture breaks. Really nice atmosphere but outside is full of smokers so major down side there for the non-smokers like myself
Diogo Reck
That's definitely the best Gloria Jeans I've been to. I actually wish they could keep this level in other places, so they would a good chain.<br/><br/>My coffee was very good, as well as my food. Service was very friendly, and the place itself is quite nice, contemporary and cozy.<br/><br/>One thing that is also great is that they are open til late, what is not very common for this kind of places.<br/>
Mariko Sakurai
It is a fancy Cafe on Lorne st, I guess it is good to go with your friends to have coffee. <br/><br/>However, recently I had a bit unfavourable service. The manager is the one who served my drink and he did not apologise for his mistake.. The waitress apologised me after and brought me a cake.🙄 Thats why I rate them 2.5.

Service - 5/5<br/>Food - 4/5<br/>Drinks - 4/5<br/>Ambiance - 5/5<br/><br/>Overall value - 10/5<br/>Cost - so reasonable.<br/><br/>This place is a sweet spot! Either on my way to Uni or from, I always find something here.<br/>I may have an emotional attachment to this café!! We literally spend hours over coffee and food as a spot for catchups, meetings, or just to study. I really appreciate their service given providing for loud, crazy students most of the time. And their hygiene level - I don't think I have ever seen a dirty table, like magic it's always clean.<br/><br/>They aren't fussy.. once we had a pancake from the shop next door with us and we came to get frappes and food for the rest of us here, they did not get all anal about us sitting in their premises.<br/><br/>Love the decor inside and outside.<br/>And THANK YOU for letting us sit in one place for 3-4 hours at a time just to catchup and study.<br/><br/>Like always, will be back.

Well well well, what have we got here???? Sometimes life gets rough and boy oh boy did Gloria Jeans screw me over. It started this morning. It looked like a nice day outside and I'm a pretty rave girl so decided I would head out for lil nibble and drink. I gracefully jumped out of bed and got myself all dolled up. Eagerly awaiting my uber, I started thinking about the day ahead. I travelled for days, finally reaching my destination only to find it was closed. Desperation took ahold of me as I looked at the Gloria Jeans next door and decided to give it a whirl. I entered with complete optimism. I was greeted by a staff member wearing what looked like a neck warmer standing next to a beautiful spread of dry food in a cabinet. "FOUL" I screamed out loud as tears rolled down my cheeks. I picked a menu and saw wedges and thought, that's it. This is me. With the swift flick of PayWave, I ordered what I was hoping to be a delicious dinner meal. Out came the ice tea. I gently wrapped my soft lips around the straw. What happened next will shock you. Warm tea drizzled down my throat I searched around me for help, but nobody was there. What had I gotten myself into? The wedges arrived soon after. To my surprise, it looked like I had paid an extra $5 for a few scrapings of bacon. It tipped me over the edge. I looked inside to see again, the neck warmer man staring at me. Is Gloria Jeans illuminati or just a shitty establishment????? You tell me.
Antica Hill
Was let down by what I thought was going to be a thirst quenching raspberry iced tea. However, once it arrived it was warm???? It also had an English breakfast tea bag in it which was so foul and overpowering. Hopeful, we asked for more ice to cool the tea down, but once the drinks were returned there was no difference. The only reason I drank the drink was quench my thirst after the dry croissant we ordered. Very disappointing :(

Coffee is good and the clerks are all very nice, because they will remain me to show the Vip card when I forgot it. I do recommend the passion fruit cheesecake, sooooo delicious!! And the red velvet cake is really hard to eat. So awful ''
Lovely Maralit
I love the space and the ambience of this place unless it's raining coz it gets too cold. I had an Eggs Benedict with salmon. The home made hollandaise wasn't that special but it was nice I think the English muffin should've been toasted more or something coz it was too chewy and soft. I love the sauce used for dressing and garnish though. The service was great from the counter to the waiters serving.
BrinkersMad
I usually try avoid big chain coffee stores because coffee is generally sh*t like the coffee club and starbucks so I go for iced drinks instead. <br/><br/>Gloria jeans iced drinks like the iced mocha chiller are definitely drinks that hit the spot. Every time I've come here your drinks have always been a hit and for that you deserve a great 10/10 from me. <br/><br/>Cabinet foods however look way too overpriced and don't appear fresh but I'm sure it appeals to other people who enjoy cabinet foods. It can get busy and the tables right in front of the counter are always in the way especially when there are people in groups congested at the counter.<br/><br/>The interior and furniture is bloody fantastic. The lounge is huge and is the only cafe I know around with big spaces and hang out spots. Many students come here, this is a great place to wind out and relax especially with exams and such. <br/><br/>Drinks are the way here! I would avoid the food. I've had a few panini's from here. Not great.
Peter White
Average coffee-esque rubbish, with everything other than good coffee. Icy drinks the pick. Red velvet cake was at least 5yrs old. Cookies 'n cream cheesecake actually ok <br/><br/>The space however is beautiful. High ceilings, grandiose feel, with different seating offerings scattered throughout the large space. Loads of focused students using the space as a study extender. Extensive placements of powerpoints a deliberate ploy to retain the patronage of such patrons. It works.<br/><br/>Good vibe.<br/><br/>Only the food and drink lets them down.
Thegreeats
Great selection of drinks and their cabinet food suprisingly is not bad for a chain coffee store!<br/>Lots of seats and spacious<br/>Can get quite noisy though wish it was quieter<br/>Your bathrooms had no toilet paper which was unconvenient :/<br/>Has their ham and cheese crossiant which was good but kind of over-proced<br/>Coffee was very good though!

■ Nice location<br/>■ Good atmosphere<br/>■ Friendly staff<br/><br/>■ Pricey<br/>■ Food can be pretty average<br/><br/>Ive been here a few times after getting myself familiar with the city and the location is great! Just around the corner from busy and bustling Auckland uni. They can get quite busy due to this and it's nice idea for them to have the separate lounge area they have going on coz it's good for small group hangouts.<br/><br/>I like to come here by myself occassionally and work my way through assignments just for a change of location. Its really nice to unwind and also the atmosphere is really calming and tranquil for this!<br/><br/>Their cabinet food and brekkies are definitely on the high end of $$$ and the coffee is pretty standard..Nothing is too out of the ordinary. I did get a white chocolate mocha once that was real rich but other than that its been pretty average. The customer service is good however and the staff are really bubbly. Compared to other cafe's around Queens St, I would say this is my favorite just because of the convenient location + modern and chic setup of the place.

Love the place, nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly. Love their mixed berry smoothies!!! I've come here several times and I've always liked their lunch menu. Will definitely come back again.

I tend to shy away from big coffee establishments but I like Gloria Jean’s Coffees. I think it has a lot to do with how nice the Gloria Jean’s cafe is in Lorne Street. My sister and I love going here to have coffee, catch up and chat. The interior design of this place is great and I want the furniture.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. When I ordered, I was asked if I was taking away or having here. Since I ordered a tea, I said I was having here because I like to adjust the tea to my preference. The tea came out in a takeaway cup and when I went to ask about it, one of the staff was making a coffee in a mug for herself. They explained that since it's nearly their closing time (more than one hour left till closing), they can only serve drinks in takeaway cups and that because staff are not allowed to use takeaway cups, she was making a coffee in a mug. They didn't even aplologize for not explaining this earlier and needless to say, the tea tasted HORRIBLE. The female staff was still chatting with her friend on one of the tables sipping on her coffee FROM THE MUG when we were leaving at about 9.50. I don't see why they can serve drinks in a mug to staff but not to customers. The only explanation I can think of is that they are just too lazy to wash the mugs before closing.

Great atmosphere CRAP coffee<br/>WE drink long blacks in which there is no escape if they are bad as you cannot disguise them with milk etc<br/>Returned the first attempt (you can tell visually as there was no Creme on top and looked like a filter version)<br/>2nd attempt after some discussion was only marginally better (no creme)<br/>Will never return as Auckland s CBD has so many better choices - luckily
William Vilas Boas
Terrible service starting for the cashier! Cake is really dry and tasteless! Coffee was served in take away because I think they want us to leave without no dishes for them to wash! Never gonna come back! Disappointed

Second to Starbucks on the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street, this is my favourite place to grab a coffee or two, sit down with friends, and chat for hours. Literally hours. <br/><br/>My favourite drink is the choc macadamia latte (I order it EVERY time!) and my friend that I frequent with is IN LOVE with the caramelatte. He says it is his favourite coffee drink, ever.<br/><br/>Large place, but could do with more of those super comfy seats. However, every time we are here, we tend to find quite some good seats for ourselves regardless.<br/><br/>If you are after a nice chill area, where you can sit forever and not get kicked out, then this is where it's at!
Sheena
I haven't actually ordered menu food from this Gloria Jeans branch before, but I used to come here every week to catch up with the same group of friends. I enjoy the iced drinks here! The creme brulee chiller is one of my favourites, as well as the cookies and cream mocha chiller and the iced chocolate with biscuit! I also used to get food from the cabinet quite often, and they're at decent prices for a good sized portion! The location is super close to uni — about a two minute walk down Albert Park, which means I'll definitely be back! Service is usually friendly as well :)

As a chain coffee shop, Gloria Jeans is a bit of a hit or miss for me. This particular one definitely gains more brownie points for it's beautiful decor and lovely atmosphere. They have fluffy rugs, gorgeous hanging lamps and big lofty windows that make the whole place so light and inviting. The cabinet food is standard, and coffee is reasonably good. Not my first choice of cafe, but fine for a quick bite to eat if you're around.

First of all, the decor of this cafe is beautiful. It is what attracted me in the first place. I love the lighting, the ghost chairs and the overall interior design of this place. This is my favourite meeting place in the city to have coffee with.<br/><br/>It is quite close to the universities so it can get busy but if you get here at a good time, it's a great place to chill. The service is good and I like their coffees.<br/><br/>I usually order the mocha truffle, mocha caramel latte or choc macadamia latte. I've ordered their panini here too and it was huge so my sister and I shared it. I think their coffees are well-prices and are a decent size.

One of my fav gloria jeans branches. It's really close to uni so its a really nice place to study at. I would say 6:30-10 is the best place to study just because it's really quiet and you'll be able to choose tables, it does get quite busy afterwards but it's not too bad. ZomatoStudents

The nicest Gloria Jeans in town both in atmosphere and quality. The Lorne St branch has been decorated like a modern cafe and is quite a pleasure to sit and relax at compared to the others. <br/><br/>Coffee has always been consistent, it's not amazing coffee, but a touch above Starbucks. A decent place for a catchup.

Nothing wrong with the service or the food but plastic forks to eat a thick heavy red velvet cake is just silly if I can handle a real plate and cup a real spoon and fork is fitting 😂

Friendly staff. Although it was a busy day, u could see how flustered they were. Sat at the art gallery seatings where there's couches. Very comfy for our catch up. Ordered our lunch. To our surprise how amazed we were with the presentation and how real and big portion it was. I had fish n chips with extra salad. This is a winner. Chips was crunchy but abit dry. Overall yum. See images. I would go back and order this meal for a takeaway. Lunches are 11-3pm

My absolute favourite Gloria jeans in town. Almost don't want to write a review to keep it a close hidden secret! Ha ha. This GJ was a regular hangout on a Sunday when we lived closer by. While I'm a coffee snob and don't rate chain coffee highly, what makes this GJ is the decor and ambience. Inside you'll find plush chairs and well decorated lounge areas, they have so much space inside and out that you won't have trouble finding a cosy spot. Close by to a lot of other eateries isn't a downside either! Will be back soon.

I have to give 1 to this cafe, due to the dissatisfying customer service that I've received; And everyone knows how it feels like to have the day totally ruined by a crap customer service.<br/>The manager guy (Chinese) was at the counter - he didn't even greet me, ignored me for the whole time until I ordered. No eye contact during the transaction, genuinely felt like he had no interest in what he was doing - I don't understand why he's in the customer service field if he hates his job so much.<br/>The Wifi was not working properly, and I asked him if he can find out what went wrong - He raised his voice in front of all the customers and told me that everyone else seem to be connecting to it therefore he can't do anything. Did not even try to investigate it further. Very, very disappointing experience.<br/>Coffee - great, Seating - great, Location - great, Customer service? 1 out of 10.<br/>Never visiting there again.

A great place to meet up with friends or to do some individual study. cozy, relaxing and friendly environment. Love the coffee and free wifi here.

Love this space. Gloria Jeans seem to be on trend with updating their decor as homey as possible and this particular branch is a feast for the eyes. There are so many different seating to choose from, each corner with its own personality.  The huge chairs are comfy.  However, this isn't a quiet place. Coffee and cabinet food are very good.

Absolutely ridiculous. Sure the furniture looks nice but food and affordability should be the first thing a cafe takes care of for its' customers. On Saturday, 20 July, my husband and I went to Gloria Jeans on Lorne Street. It was a snap decision as I needed food very soon to get my iron levels up as I am pregnant. I ordered a hot chocolate which was delicious. I also ordered the same as my husband - bacon and eggs for breakfast. I told the counter staff waitress that I wanted fried eggs "well done" and I said "well done" twice to ensure she understood what I meant which she seemed to. This is because I am unable to have any part of the eggs raw while I am pregnant. <br/><br/>I noted that the prices here were quite high. $15.90 for bacon and eggs?? We were expecting top quality for that! That is the sort of price to pay at a high end independent cafe in Parnell or Ponsonby but this was a branch cafe we were at!<br/><br/>We waited over twelve minutes for the meals which we thought was quite a long time for a) just bacon and eggs considering what they consisted of on the menu and b) only a few other customers - it was a largely empty place that time of day. I also noticed there were no salt and pepper shakers at the table - or at least the waitress didn't bring any over. <br/><br/>When our meals arrived, we were heavily disappointed! <br/>* VERY small portions for the hefty price of $15.90! <br/>* Ciabatta bread, toasted, with no butter or any condiment on the side? For $15.90 - really?? <br/>* My eggs were NOT well done. The yolk was still deep orange and raw. I asked for them to be taken away and well done and the waitress, a young girl, was obviously quite awkward about it: she took the plate away but, seeing how visibly upset I was, apologised, meekly, once, and from a distance. I think all of this was the chef's fault - I get the impression that she was new to the job and she can't control how the food comes out.<br/><br/>We waited for over 5 minutes, maybe more - Eitherway it was a long time for just eggs to be cooked a bit more - enough for the yolk to be done. Then, when the food did finally come again - the yolk was STILL not cooked! Clearly, the chef has no idea what "well done" eggs mean! I was very upset and, although I didn't complain, the waitress could tell and kept a distance from me instead of seeing what the problem was. We were running out of time for an appointment by that stage and there was no point to my complaining. I can't believe how poor the service of the food was for that price. NEVER going there again!<br/><br/>Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Recently I have been on a campaign to support the small Independent coffee shops but I couldn't help but be impressed by the ambiance and setting of this particular Gloria Jeans. The coffee itself was $4.10 (for a small flat white - one raw sugar) so not the cheapest but it was velvety smooth and professionally prepared.<br/><br/>Seating options 5/5<br/>Coffee Quality 4/5<br/>Price 2/5 (I know you have to pay the rent but $4.10 for a small fw is steep!)<br/>Service 4/5<br/>Toilets 5/5<br/>Food - not rated on this visit<br/>Character 5/5<br/><br/>Can see this being a great place to work from in the warmer months.

This coffee place has several seating options to choose from which is great if you get in before the students and can find a spot where you don't get the evil eye of the lap toppers hogging a communal table so they can charge them or sleeping students - damn rude when they have their feet up where people come to eat and drink coffee. If you choose to sit outside when the weather is brilliant be prepared to inhale and become a passive smoker or endure the spitting of the spitters 😝. So the best time when I was going regularly is first thing in the morning perched in the corner near the kitchen so you can people watch while you wait for your order. The first chef knew my order really well to the point he would bring it out to me himself. The waitress knew my coffee order and always got it right and perfect too. Sadly I wouldn't come any other time unless it's for a takeaway coffee and she is making it. The chef has changed now and they must have over ordered on the red onions as that is what smothered over my grain toast. Also the tomatoes aren't cooked long enough and the plating of my food is horrid: soggy toast, smothering and layers of red onion, some mushrooms and small poached eggs drowned in sauce. By the time I've dismantled thw tower of inedible ingredients the toast is soggy and I'm quite angry I've paid for the slop. The waitress refunded my entire meal and apologised profusely. The pic attached is how it used to come out with the first chef who I miss. Coffee is still good and the decor so comfy but to have brekkie there is probably a negative. As I really like the service and coffee of the main waitress and the decor really hip and comfy go and try it for yourself but my last few ventures render this food experience 2.5<br/>UPDATE: I had a proposal to read and within a certain time so I decided to go back. I hope the new chef is there to stay and he seems to get the simplest of food right without crap coming out. Service always impeccable. Food much much better...almost like the first original chef ☝👍 for the chefs brekkie food it pushes my opinion (paying customer to all the Pro critics who hate Zomato - but many others like myself love!) goes up! I have been back thrice both food and service were consistently good!

With high ceilings, bright lights, large opened spaces that are wonderfully decorated, free wifi and trading hours that lead till 10pm on weekdays, it's no wonder i often find myself here with a cuppa. Settled in between the university district, this leads to lorne st's gloria jeans patrons being a hangout spot for a majority of students. The challenge only happens when the toilet is needed, we have to request for one of the staff to open the door that leads to the loo and if they're busy... Oh you'll rather hold it in than get an look that signifies death in their eyes. As crowded as it gets after the school bell rings, it's a place set for convenience and relaxation.

It was actually quite nice, which surprised me because I usually hate the chains.<br/>I tried the french toast with bacon and caramelized banana which costed way too much ($16.80) so I halved it with my friend, which was convenient because there were two banana slices, two bacons and two french toasts. Very nice presentation, and the taste was good too, but still, overly-priced. <br/>Staff were cheerful and nice, however one of them forgot who ordered the french toast, and we had to call out that it was us.<br/>Overall, a nice, stylish shop with high quality foods despite being a chain shop. A perfect place to meet with friends and catch up.

Love all the drinks very delicious but the cafe floor/tables are always dirty. I feel like they need more staff to clean the tables and throw away all the rubbish.

We went to the Lorne Street GJ over the weekend. My food arrived cold and I had to ask twice for it to be heated. The food wasn't fresh, God knows how old it was. When I asked for the wifi password the guy didn't tell me of the unusual spelling and so I spent ages trying to unsuccessfully log in. So annoying.

Came here after the Santa Parade - really great decor and the coffee is decent (not the greatest taste). The coffees came out quickly and the staff that brought the drinks were friendly. Have rated it so poorly because of the service provided by the cashier - he didn't look at us once and was generally disinterested in us as customers. He was very dismissive and rude - my friend took her table number and when I said I was on the previous table number he sighed and said "which was...?" And this is all after my friend asked for black tea and he rudely said "you mean black coffee". No. Black tea. Walked away feeling like we had done something wrong.

Gloria Jeans on Lorne Street is really cute! Love the decor and how everything is new, shiny and stylish! The staff are really nice, except one waitress who didn't really seem like she knew what she was doing, but the counter staff are really friendly and recommend coffee/food well.<br/><br/>I had the beer batter fish and chips and my friend had the bacon and chicken foccaccia with beer batter chips. It was nice! Good effort into presentation, food was hot, it was what you expected but cuter.<br/><br/>I think I've used the word cute too much :P but it is! Style is everything! It makes you feel stylish sitting in the cafe and wanting to go back to feel that again! And the coffee and food are good enough to come back!<br/><br/>I got the food through this deal where if we bought a regular drink and food was $9.90 but it ends this week.

Remarkably funky fitout for a franchised cafe operator... Normally I stay away from the chains, but with its designer appeal, which no doubt attracts the nearby at gallery crowd, I made an exception! Cabinet food was quite boring looking, so I ended up with a Cajun chicken panini that was dry and oily. It's quite popular with uni students who had a large number of the tables taken for assignment work. Staff very friendly. Definitely come here for a break from the art gallery but just be careful to choose the right thing...!
