Review Ichizen Japanese Restaurant - Auckland Central

Jules Whiteman
Lovely little secluded restaurant in Flat Bush area with a relaxed ambience. All dishes were tasty, well-presented and there was a good menu selection. Help-yourself water & green tea. Friendly service. Reasonably priced - ordered 4 dishes with a side of edamame beans which cost $51 for 2 people.

A japanese restaurant in east auckland with very nice interior. This japanese restaurant is owned by chinese but the food they serve is not too bad for the price I pay. Food: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 Price: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 Ambience: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 Service: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 We ordered nabe pot, teriyaki beef, cheese grilled scallop, sushi rolls, chasu, grilled squid and eel don. All were good except tuna roll. For a price of $15 I was expecting something better, this tuna roll was bland, the rice wasn’t pressed nicely too. Cheese grilled scallop was topped with a lot of butter and cheese, very fattening but delicious. Teriyaki beef was nicely done, beef was tender and soft. Beef sukiyaki was good, the portion was small. Overall still a good experience, we will come back if we are around east auckland.

Had lunch with a good friend. Very delicious food and pretty neat presentaton of food. We ordered a Teriyaki Beef set, an Eel Don Set and 2 sides. The Eel Don is not big but it's very delicious. The Teriyaki Beef looks a little special, because it is a beef steak instead of thin beef slices that I had in some other Japanese restaurants. It came as medium well cooked and very delicious, probably because of the souce. All sets have sushi and salad provided, so the whole meal is surely enough. Sides we had were Edamame and Squid Rings, common ones among Japanese restaurants. I like the flavour of the souce sprinkled on the squid rings. Haven't tried the dinner menu yet. I guess the quality shouldn't be disappointing.

Our old favorite Japanese Restaurant closed due to end of Lease and we were at a loss for 'Date Night'. A friend recommend we try Ichizen - and we were not disappointed. The staff were helpful and attentive - the atmosphere was perfect and authentic - and the food was really excellent. We will be back soon - and will bring the rest of the team with us. Highly recommended.

Yummy food. First time to visit here and fell in love with food they served. All food was well prepared and fresh. Will come again!

Good fast service. High hygiene standards Beautiful presentation of food Nice texture, clean cut on the sashimi Hotpot soup tastes fantastic and at the same time calming. Doesn't give you the 'punch' strong flavour Overall a great restaurant with friendly staff

Went to this restaurant few times for lunch with my wife. Tried various sushi rolls and they are one of the best I have tasted in New Zealand. Definitely recommend, especially Salmon Roll. Great grilled squid.

Gorgeous food, lovely atmosphere beautiful staff & service. I had a very romantic dinner there and it couldnt have been more perfect. Just love your delicious food. First time trying sake too!

Nice place. Well decorated. Food is good.

Beautiful food. We arrived at 7pm & they were full. It took a little while to get served at first. Otherwise it was lovely. Nice atmosphere & great food.

A great place. It's not only great because I got engaged there but because the atmosphere is just really warm and the staff are always friendly. The food is comforting. We have taken family there to show it off

We had dinner there once (so far), and the food was beautiful, nice friendly stuff, and it's great that they are B.Y.O. Will take my husband there soon!

It’s a nice treat, took the wife, since she was happy I was too. Lovely food as Japanese as it gets, reasonable price.

A great place for a cozy group to share a variety of flavorsome dishes - I recommend the cheesy eggplant and the crab sushi.

We came here with zomato gold which made the meal very worth it! We ordered the Udon Nabe and Tuna Roll. I loved the addition of fish roe to the tuna roll because it gave the dish a burst of flavour and texture. The udon noodles were soft and tender, the broth was clear and full of flavour but not overpowering and the crispy tempura vegetables were a great compliment to the dish. A downside would be that the wasabi isn't spicy at all which was kind of disappointing. Overall it was a great experience, waitresses were very lovely and friendly. Would definitely come back again :)

Food - 5/5
Ambience - 4/5
Service - 4/5

The menu was quite confusing as mains did not include a rice/miso as what was normally provided at other japanese restaurants. It would be better to revise pricing to include at least a rice for each main course. It was also disappointing to note that the japanese restaurant was operated and food was prepared by non-japanese as we were after authentic japanese cuisine.

The foods are nice, with standard Japanese restaurant menu, nothing fancy. Price are reasonable. Since it's a rather popular place, advice you book in advance. Seating wise, the tables are a little bit close to each other, very cosy. Zomato gold works for everythinh else apart from sashimi.
Nadia
The service was the only thing good at this place, however I expect too much and make me very disappointed about their food.

Fourth time to come here. Ordered the following - soft shell crab salad, salmon sushi, pork belly, scallops on melted cheese, and soft shell crabs sushi. Everything was still delicious. Personally love the salad though it's a little salty to my taste. Pork belly was ok, not that great compared to the others. Will come back again.
Hungry Teddy (20% Zomato Gold, Use : HUNG2716)
Small serving restaurant. A bit disappointing in term of flavor. Nabe needs a little bit sweeter. Karage is a bit bland. Free tea is available.

We've been there couple of weeks ago for dinner. The food was okay but service was too bad. Their waitresses are not friendly and not attentive enough to customers whereas there were only few tables in the restaurant. Dishes came out slower than other Japanese restaurants. Taste was okay tho not like authentic Japanese cuisine. Don't know if we using zemato gold account makes them feel bad or not but when we purchased, we didn't get a proper response.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, tasty food, good value if you have zomato gold membership:)

Staff was friendly, food was ok. As I only eat chicken & there was not much options for me to choose from the menu. I ordered for lime & lemon expecting for fresh drink but was given a ready made drink. Improve on menu will definitely be a kickoff.
Stephanie Qin
Super tasty food! Better than a lot of other more expensive Japanese casual dining restaurants. Small and humble place with friendly staff. Highly recommend

it is bit hard to find the place, quite small and on the back corner. the dishes bit small not really good value. the only dishes i recommend is the tempura prawn sushi roll. it is excellent presentation and taste good. the mini bow is really mini not like the picture on the manu at all.
Sheena (Code SHEE7152H For Zomato Gold)
I was expecting so much for this but quite disappointed. Small servings and food is so so. Ambience is really good and relaxing; it’s like being in a spa.
Ramona Zhang
The sashimi dish was really nice, it was a pity that they ran out of tuna. The service was pretty good and the place seems to be very popular, we had to wait for a while before there was an empty table so may be booking in advance would be ideal

WORST SERVICE IN MY 24 YEARS (is there a -5/5?)

Got there at 7.30pm, left before the food came at 8.25pm. I think they were genuinely wanting us to stay and wait till closing. Another group came, order and finished their food before they brought plates and cutlery to our table (8.23pm). We ordered TWO things; takoyaki and salmon roll. Maybe they were shipping it all the way from Japan or something and that’s why it took so long? That’s the only justification i can come up with.
Peepeeboy
We went in for a quick lunch. The store has nice decors. The food came pretty quick which was great but the food and the service was definitely not up to standard.

1. The nigiri was very hard to pick up because the rice just easily falls apart. The fish on top - some pieces are thick and some are very thin.

2. We also ordered the cheese scallops which says 6pc on the menu but it came with 3pc of the meat and 3pc of the roe/flesh.

3. Not a kids friendly restaurant as there is no kids menus.

Would NOT recommend to any Japanese food lovers because you will be disappointed.
Su Ling
We had chicken katsu, hot pot and soft she'll crab roll which nice, service was good and food deliver pretty fast less thn 10 mins...worth for money with Zomato gold. Thanks to the team.

excellent Japanese dishes in Botany area. I love the environment and design of restaurant. delicious and valuable with goldden membership apply here. Good experience. food are so fresh. sashimi lover should go.

We decided to come here last minute and did not make a booking but luckily there was a table available for us. I would recommend calling them to make a booking as they get busy. Food here was delicious and cooked perfectly. Good size sharing dishes and managed to leave bloated.
HungryHam
Been here twice now. The food was delicious and pricing seems fair. Has a good Japanese feel to the restaurant and staff was friendly. Will definitely be back =)

First thing first. Food were good and service was great but Having little trouble when using our zomato gold as the staff members dont really know the privilege of it. We have two zomato gold and ordered 2 $26 dollars and 2 $ 15 dollars meals. In theory they should charge me 26+15+drinks but they charged me 26+26 instead as they thought 2 cheapest meals should be discounted which is not the case. Yet food were good and they admitted they fault and give us a refund after a short talk with zomato customer service. Would like to give a 5 but -1 because of the misunderstanding. :o
GaryLu
kaisen nabe ( not recommended) too salty. Everything else is good. Restaurant is nice and tidy, staff are very friendly. Only thing needs to improve is the nabe.
Shirley Fung
The food takes a bit long and very small portions. I feel the food was so so only. Not worth the price and the visit. I will not recommend this place.
Ellynn
The food was really good! Their mini don was good enough so that I can order another dish. We ordered their Salmon Nabe, Eel Don and Mix Tempura to share. One of the better Japanese restaurant in the area.
Stefanie
Really good dishes and good sizes. Nice to share with friends. Love the prawn sushi and pork belly dish is good!! Would love to come back and try other dishes!
Lisa Vuong
Went here for lunch around 1 and most of their menu was out of stock which was disappointing. Came in and they said we can sit anywhere, once seated we didn’t get the menus so we had to go up and get it ourselves. We ordered the mixed sashimi and they ran out of tuna so they gave us salmon instead. Food was tasty but the portions was too small.
Erika
Super delicious. Will definitely come back again. Personal favourites are grilled squid and tempura prawn roll. Small area but no queues, approachable staffs too
Jowson Thaivichit
Food was really good. Portion was smaller than expected. Pretty chill vibe.

Food : 4/5
Vibe : 4/5
Service : 5/5
Price : 3/5

Overall : 4/5

Would definitely go again
Delicious foods and great service. No problem using Zomato Gold have no problem at all. We been to this place many times. Kids love the foods. Thumbs up. Will continue support.
Derek Cheung
Great service. Beautiful and fresh food served. My favourite has to be the grilled squid. Will definitely come back again :)! Highly recommend.

The ambience was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The downside was that the food got serve really slow. We had our first order and waited for about 30 mins for our 1st item to be served ( we had 4 items). About 30mins later we added another 2 items but 1 item from our first order was not even served yet. Eventually it was served 10 mins later after we finished our 2nd order food. Food was good but I wouldn’t recommend to go if you are short on time.
Ronald Tan
The food served was delicious and truly authentic Japanese food. We ordered the Kaizen Nabe, Ebi Mayo Prawn, Unagi Don and Udon Nabe. The serving is a little bit on the small side however the food is really good. The wait staff were friendly and helpful but the dishes came out quite slow and at different times. We had to wait quite a bit for our last few dishes.
Overall, still a good place to go for good, authentic Japanese food. Especially in the cold weather.

I had a girls night out with 8 friends, booked table via zomato. It was easier than ringing. Confirmation came back quickly - perfect. We got a long table which was very nice. The resto was busy, being Saturdays nite. We booked 6pm, so, the parking was easy. Every body ordered their food and drinks. We loved the place and our corner. Everybody enjoyed the food and the ambience. My only problem was my Teriyaki salmon, my friend's teriyaki chicken and my friend's chicken katsu turned up so late. I had to ask. Apart from this hiccup, overall we enjoyed ourselves. We had a good laugh. The price was not bad at all - surprisingly. I had teriyaki salmon, a bowl of rice and Japanese plum wine. We will definitely come back.
Came here for dinner , ordered 2 sushi rolls, one chicken Katsu ( not recommended as it’s super small for the price) and one chasu ( recommended as it’s tasty and unique!)

I found it very difficult to order anything filling from their menu , there is no rice or udon or fried noodle which are usually available in other jap restaurant... for a cold night we do want some hot options ... I tried their pot selection, their was hardly any ingredients in the pot hence why we didn’t order this time ..
I had reserved a table for a group of us last night for a farewell dinner party. The table was ready by the time we arrived which was great. Once all the guest had arrived the waitress made her way to take all our orders. The waitress was a lovely young lady. We were told that the water and tea was self service, which is okay but for a large group (15 people) it would’ve been nice if we were given a jug of water and or tea rather than one or two people from our table pretty much taking over the tea and water station trying to give tea and water to each person at the table.

Shortly after our food started to arrive. The meals were all hot and freshly made however some individuals from the table had to wait for some time before their meals had arrived. However I understand that it was a large group to serve.

I had ordered the:
• Pork Belly
• Chicken Wings
• Cheesy Grilled Prawns
• Edamame
• Udon Nabe
• Dumplings

The pork belly was good but I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The chicken wings were sticky and I loved the flavours. The cheesy grilled prawns was delicious, I loved how the cheese was melting and had a hint of sweetness to it which made the flavours more amazing. However the price for this dish was quite high especially since the dish was surprisingly small. Was given 7 Prawns for $18 I would’ve though the Prawns were much larger in size at least. Nether the less the meal was delicious.
The Edamame is always a great side dish, and the Udon Nabe was lovely. Had great flavour and came in a fancy little stove. Loved the presentation for this. The dumplings were delicious however I missed the photo for this.

I overall had a wonderful time. The restaurant was warm and the area we were seated was private, which was nice. The staff were lovely.
I have rated this restaurant a 4 however a few things let me down.
I will however be coming to this restaurant again to try something on the menu.

It’s alright, average, rice is not cooked in Japanese standard, mushy and too wet, the flavor of hot pot is good(miso base) cheese grill eggplant lack flavor inside, and too oily, and these is a table has broken edge which scratches my hand
Kimberley Yong
Good prices and great service! :) Ordered the Beef tataki don, chicken katsu and seared scallops and they were all yummy! Thanks for a lovely dinner!

It was a full house on a Saturday night. When we arrived at the restaurant we found out that the table reserved for us was erroneously given to another group of customers; the front of house staff members were very apologetic and fortunately we didn't have to wait too long for another table as we were super hungry at arrival. Ordered a variety of dishes; grilled squid, eel dons, cheese grilled scallop, 16pc sashimi, nigiri, tempura prawn roll, fried tofu, soba and udon nabes, and not forgetting warm sake 😉 dish of the night definitely goes to the cheese grilled scallop; scallops melt in the mouth paired with the oozie cheese - match made in heaven!!! The fried tofu, grilled squid and eel (unagi) don were great too. The others dishes are quite average.
Very slow serving time; our rate of consumption was way faster than the serving up. Time management needs to be seriously reviewed....with Ai.N Lee

I went here on friday night for dinner. Waited for 30 to 40 mins for the food to arrive and devoured it in like 10 mims. We had the tuna roll, eel mini don and pork katsu. They were all really good. Especially the wasabi. If you want quick service this is not the place to be at on friday night.

Fantastic food and top notch service at reasonable price. Quiet and cosy Japanese ambience, will definitely recommend to food lovers who are looking for a good and affordable dining experience! 一番好きな

Came here for lunch, specifically for sashimi. Arrived 15 minutes after they opened and tried to order the mixed sashimi. Waitress told us that some other table had just ordered the sashimi and they had now run out. 15 minutes after opening? And then after asking the kitchen she mentioned that they don't have salmon or tuna so we can only order the white fish sashimi. The white fish was definitely, definitely not fresh and very disappointing. Quite unbelievable and ridiculous that this restaurant didn't have a main part of their menu available from the start of the day and then to lie about it saying they ran out within 15 minutes of opening.

Environment and atmosphere are okay, will give a 4. However wouldn’t say the service is friendly, just okay the staff not pro active enough. The Eel Don and Scallop cheese platter are nice.
However having a hot soup dish served before the sashimi plate which seems odd to me.
Ordered a large sashimi, Tuna slices isn’t fresh enough. They placed the sashimi slices on top of of crushed ice, before we could finish it the slices are all soak in the ice water, wasabi on the plate fully dissolved with the ice water. (Considering isn’t summer right now!!!) The ice water end up outflow from the plate and the waiter isn’t aware at all. Very disappointed dine out.

Lovely environment and friendly staff! Loved the squid! Definitely will be back for more as it was only my first time visiting this little place.

Love this place. Have always like japanese food and this place not only have delicious food but also good customer service and a warm envinroment. Will upload some photos next time I go :)

closer to 4
the first restaurant i use zomato gold and i also happen to bump into a friend on that day so very memorable for me
presentation and taste are both decent, i especially enjoy the squid and the sushi roll
ambience is quiet and pleasing to the soul (as you would expect from most Japanese restaurants)

Nice place, far from city
nice staff
food ok, a lot of parking

Lunch special menu not included in Zomato Gold discount

Size just enough

Price for Japanese food is fair
Jiamin Liang
Nice Japanese environment. The food is tasty, but tiny size. Good to choose that for dinner if you are trying to loose weight. Recommend the eel don.
Doris Ma
Great service and cute decor, a comfortable jap place for dinner. We ordered the 18pc sashimi, grilled squid, cheese grilled scallop, salmon nabe, fried tofu, and eel Don. The sashimi was fresh and they were cut to a good thickness. The grilled squid was quite tender, smokey, with a tinge of sweetness and miso, and the dipping sauce accompanied it well. Cheese grilled scallops were very cheesy (yum😋) and the scallops almost melted in my mouth. Fried tofu were surprisingly large, I liked the chewiness of the outside, it gave it extra texture. Salmon nabe could have had more salt, and more toppings. The eel Don was your standard eel Don, nothing popped out at me but it was nice all the same.
Definitely would dine here again
John He
Quite a nice dining experience with friendly staff and nice ambience. We enjoyed the nabe and salmon croquettes and the salad was also fresh. The grilled eggplant was a little disappointing tho. Will be back to try more of the other dishes.
Ajj.davenport
Have been here a few times but s little disappointed. They were busy with s larger party and first flood took 40 minutes to arrive. Tuna tutaki was very disappointing with very little tuna and not finely sliced as normal. Wifes Don arrived a full 15 minutes before mine. Hope this was only because they were busy
Sook Ping Wong
Nice ambience and meals were value for money. We ordered the small sashimi and the cuts of salmon and tuna were very thick and generous. We had the salmon croquette which was nice but couldn't really taste the salmon in it. The kaizen nabe was good with generous proportion of fish and seafood, however as with most reviews here, the soup base was quite salty. Overall a pleasant experience and will be back for the sashimi.

Love love love the fried tempura roll with the green salmon roe. Looks great and also tastes great. Also got the Katy’s, teriyaki beef and eggplant which were nice too. Nice decor and friendly service.

Ichizen is a nice little quiet Japanese restaurant near Flatbush. When you first enter, the quiet music and dim lightings makes you feel at peace. This is actually the number one thing I like about this place. I can come here and just zone out from the busy world.

Anyway, on to the food. I had the soft shell crab salad and the eel don. The crab was nicely fried, which was seasoned well and goes well with the salad pairings. The eel don was what you would expect, it was good and hearty.
Portion size overall was average, it depends on what you order.

The service was self service, but I have to say that, their tea temperature was very good. It was nice and hot. The stone cups that you use to drink, was nice and heavy.

I will definitely come back again.

Taste - 3.75/5
Service - 3/5
Ambience - 5/5

Came here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by their ambience.

We ordered Grilled Squid, Kaisen Nabe (Seafood Hotpot) and Salmon Croquette.

Grilled Squid = the sauce is absolutely delish and the Squid was nicely grilled.

Kaisen Nabe = The slices of fishes are very thin, the dashi (broth) is too salty but the chikuwa (fish cake) is lovely.

Salmon Croquette = Yummy!

Will come and try their lunch menu next time. Their staff is lovely and polite. Thanks for a great dining experience.
Yinya Shi
Great ambiance, staff were lovely and helpful!
Salmon sashimi was very fresh, but could have been colder. the tofu dish we had was amazing, good crisp on the outside with a yummy miso sauce. Cheese eggplant was okay, i found it a bit plain. The tuna sushi was also good, the roe on the outside was a nice touch! The crab salad was also a highlight!!
Evayang8885
We ordered their hotbot (Nabe), eel mini don, and grilled cheese eggplant. eel don is my favourite, highly recommended to try. The small hot bot for me a little bit salty. Wanna try cheese grilled scallops next time. Overall, good experience!

My partner organised date night and brought me here. We called beforehand and asked if we could come a bit earlier and no worries. The design was surprisingly really nice! Very authentic. The tables were a little close together so not very private, but a good venue nonetheless. We ordered chicken katsu, teriyaki sushi, scallops, prawns, dumplings, prawn twisters and a salad. Beautiful food! Our favourite was definitely the grilled prawns and I would come back just for those. Good sized meals, small enough to order a lot. We are big eaters and it was a lot for us, but I ordered with my eyes! Helpful staff who were happy to clarify things and help out when we weren't sure friendly! All up was $106 with sake and 2 drinks. Good value, will be back.

Found the restaurant on zomato, pretty average to be honest.
It will be the first and last time visit for me and the staffs wasn't too friendly.
Jenny
Was there for lunch today and the sets there were delicious! The waitress serving us was also very helpful with fluent Chinese as me and my friend struggled a little with the menu. Very good :)
Anna
Food there was great! Really really recommend their soft shell crab salad which our table had ordered 4. There Katsu chicken, Eggplant, Fried tofu, Dumplings, Chicken wings were also delicious! The environment there was above and beyond with very subtle music playing in the background. The lady serving us was also very approachable, bubbly and friendly. A good experience overall!
Sonia Patel
teriyaki chicken didn’t taste fresh and took a while to be served . The lady serving us didn’t look like she was interested in serving us either . The teriyaki chicken had an after taste . Katsu chicken was alright and so was the tofu .
Roxathina Samupo
Beautiful restaurant with good food and really friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed our meal, if somewhat expensive, but definitely worth it. We will go again for specialty Japanese cuisine because it’s one of the better Japanese places we’ve been to.
Hannah Gear
Came here for dinner last night with a friend. Prices on their website differ to the ones on the menu so be aware everything is a couple of dollars more expensive. We ordered pork katsu, karage chicken, vege tempura and rice. Everything was well cooked and the staff were really lovely. $40 for two people for dinner is impressive and we will be back.
TheGoodKiwi Nz
Lovely atmosphere and food at a good price we thought. Had shashimi small,, vegetarian sushi, pork and beef teriyaki. Prawns were delicious as were the dumplings. Will return again soon with other friends.

I went there with my girlfriend.
The ambient was very cozy and great.
The price was very reasonable and sashimi was in very good condition.
Definitely recommend!

Have been to dinner with family twice. Great little restaurant with lovely decor. You're in a little Japanese haven when you walk in. The food is really good. The portion sizes are generous and the prices fair for a little restaurant in suburbia. Always great service and helpful staff for us non Japanese who need help with the menu. Will be back.
Alice In New Zealand
It was great! We were there 10past 6 but no more sashimi... we went to there for sashimi. :( other dish was really delicious but had to order again n again as they didnt mentioned about sashimi . Other than that was so goood

Best daily Japanese restaurant! Very good customer service good food good atmosphere! Never let us down. Recommend to everyone. Wish more places is like this.

Found this place on Zomato. Got there around 6pm and they had no customers inside. Service wasn't bad.

The food wasn't bad. Pretty average. Nothing special to be honest. Definitely not an authentic Japanese restaurant though. But not a bad place to dine at.

Overall very disappointed. The restaurant is pleasant , very quiet and the food was not very flavorful.. I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants and this was my least favorite. Food was served fast so I wasn't haangry! Wouldn't return to be fair.. sorry

C and I decided to have a local date night. Since we love Japanese food we decided to go here since it's close to where we live.

Walking in, we were greeted immediately and seated as it was a quiet Thursday night. We found that their menu had a wide selection of food.

C and I just ordered some green tea to sip on. We ordered the fried tofu, teriyaki chicken, salmon wing, salmon sashimi salad and grilled prawns. I had a bowl of rice while C wanted to try the rice triangle.

Our dishes came quite quickly and we were quite surprised by the generous portions of food. Highlights were the teriyaki chicken as it had a chared finish with a tasty teriyaki sauce. The grilled prawns were juicy however towards the end, the cheese became a tad bit overwhelming as there was quite alot. Fried tofu had a good flavour to it however could of used a bit more sauce. I ate the salmon wing and found it was fresh and also had that chared finish. C had the salmon sashimi salad which was nicely presented. At first she was shocked at how big it was but obviously enjoyed it as she finished it all. Salmon was fresh with a great flavour to the salad.

Overall we had a really good experience and will definitely be coming back for more local date nights!

Really beautifully decorated place, first you walk in a corridor that's fully Japanese style and they greet you! Staff was polite and nice. The food was interesting esp the beef tataki, its was cold and had a sweet taste. Also had the beef hot pot and asked for noodles on the side. Had teriyaki chicken and sashimi too. Food wasn't overwhelming and price was alright.

Last night for dinner with friends. Busy little spot that if you didn't know it was there you would certainly miss it. Extensive menu bit tapas Japanese style, all very tasty, just a little lacking on service, but will go back
Jim Lu
@nice. Clean. Sashimi cut well.
Fish was fresh
Taki wasabi was tasteful yet not too overpowering
Soup was nice, well balanced dish. Everything was served at a fast pace approx 10-15 minutes. Good presentation on the sadhimi. Friendly helpful staff. Well priced

Here is a Japanese restaurant in Flat Bush. My friends & I had beef tataki, soft shell crab sushi rolls, pork katsu, salmon wing, tuna mini don & eel mini don. After the meal, we all agreed that none of the dishes deserved a thumb-up; the one on the better side was beef tataki, topped with roasted garlic chips. But the food, in general, was simply mediocre. The 2 dons were absolutely unforgiving - bland! (Sorry to say that.)

Wait staff was friendly but rather inefficient. 2 of us had beer & the one without wasn't even offered water/tea. Dining area is jammed (see last photo) - chair almost touches neighbouring table. (Food - 2.5/5; Service - 2/5; Ambience - 3/5)

Came here for dinner on a saturday night. Walked in expecting to be packed but surprisingly it was quite empty. The atmosphere is nice, decor is beautiful. The service was great but the food was... Average. We ordered quite a few things. Tuna tataki, pork katsu, mix nigri, mix tempura, sushi roll and mini donburi. The tuna tataki was average same with the mini donburi, the nigri was good but the portion was kinda small. Pork katsu was meh, the crumb was falling apart. The tempura was good and crispy but we could smell the oil, it was old oil which hasnt been changed for so long.
Had dinner and lunch at this place and they have different menus for each time. The lunch menu is more bento box based while the dinner menu does not have that option. It has more one off plates to choose from and share with others. Layout has a nice Japanese theme all over and the wait staff are nice and pleasant. You get 10% off if you book between 6-7pm and remember to either bring cash or eftpos because there is a 2.5% credit surcharge.

We were looking for a nice Japanese place for lunch, and found this so decided to try this one out.

Atmosphere and decor was nice, gave it a nice authentic Japanese touch. We were able to be seated right away as it wasn't very busy at the time. We were given menus then the waitress left. After a while though we noticed there was no water provided, so we asked. The lady wasn't even apologetic and said we had to get it ourselves, then pointed to the self service tea jug that was hidden in the corner.
Between us, we ordered 6 lunch sets, and 2 sides. Took just a little over an hour for our food to arrive, which I guess was ok but a bit long, especially as the sides arrived half an hour after ordering.
I ordered the Teriyaki salmon lunch set at $16, and the croquettes as side. The croquettes were disappointing though, as they were bland inside, and the sauce that it came with didn't match.
The salmon set was ok- portion size a little small for the price, and the salmon piece was very thin- it looked like it was from the tail end of a small fish. It was also different to the one shown on the Zomato menu- slice of pan fried fish, bowl of rice, a small bowl of miso soup, 2 pieces of sushi and a salad.
Sushi was delicious but the salmon was a little too saucy and overpowered the natural taste of salmon.
The other lunch sets were about the same portion and taste wise from comments around the table.
Overall the food was ok, but a little pricey and the attitude of the waitress could be better. Not the best I've eaten for the price though, and won't bother going back.

Itadakimasu! Been wanting to come and try this place for a while now. Close to home, a little hard to find because google maps doesn't pick up the correct unit lol.

Great atmosphere, as soon as you walk in it's like you've been transported back to Japan! Very cute cute, staff are friendly and attentive.
We ordered croquettes which weren't very nice in my opinion, crunchy outer but the insides were very bland, I was expecting some cheesy goodness but it was starchy.

We ordered a teriyaki salmon set, complete with salad, rice, sushi, and miso soup. It was good! Salmon cooked well! Soba set and an udon set. Both came with a pot of soup, gyoza, and tofu. Soup was a delicious and came with a variety of fish cake goodies. All components of the dish went well together and we left full and content.

I'll be back for more! If you're looking for some Japanese goodness, give this place a visit!

Dined here for dinner on a Sunday night. Decor wasn't bad, food was nice but was quite average. Portion was a little bit too small for the price offered though. Sukiyaki was cooked nicely, sushi was good. The tempura batter for the tempura prawns and fried tofu was great. However, the cheese eggplant was a let down. Overall, not a bad place to dine but nothing spectacular about the food either and the price was a little steep too.

*Personal bias might occur as friend works here so I'll let the photos do the talking*

I only heard of this place after a friend found a job here and I decided to show some love to this place. I came with another mutual friend and we ordered:
Sashimi - fresh and beautifully cut but the one let down is there are only two sizes and we both wanted something larger than their biggest size.
Beef tataki - I really enjoyed the citrus sauce on this. I would order this again.
Pork skewers - unfortunately rather dry and disappointing. The person I came with had already tried this dish previously and he warned me it would be dry but we thought we should try it a second time just in case.
Scallops with cheese - a bit too cheesy for me but it was an interesting dish to have! If you love melted cheese, definitely go for it.

The biggest let down would be this place doesn't offer dessert on their menu so if you have a bit of a sweet tooth, you'll have to go to another place for dessert!

Obviously service had been on point for us.

Came here to eat tonight because it was recommended! The interior is super cute, keeping the Japanese culture with their furniture. Arriving we were greeted friendly and the service was good. This place is super close which is awesome so I can come here more often! The price of the food is a decent price for what you're getting. This is all the food we ordered and all together it was $102? But if you book and call online you can get 10% off which is super cool too! So for the 4 of us it was $90

Dined here on a Thursday evening. Arrived at 7pm and the restaurant was only 30% full. We were a pax of 7 and were seated at the table closest to the toilets. We ordered over 10 different dishes and it took awhile for them to start coming. Half way through the meal we were advised that they have run out of rice and needed to wait half an hour for the sushi to come.
The service was average as there was only one staff to do both order taking and serving (Luckily it wasn't busy). The quality of food was average. The sashimi only had 3 types of fish, for the price it was charged it's definitely not value for money.
Overall, it's a place I would try but will probably not revisit.

Really enjoyed this place, it was so close to home and I didn't realise it was here until someone mentioned it. A real hidden gem.
We had a few dishes and they were outstanding. Scallop sashimi, pork belly, beef takaki and takoyaki
The place is fitted with lovely decor which took me back to Japan.
I felt like this place was much better than East Tamaki nishiki, which seems to have failed to impress recently.

Kaiseki Ichizen - What a place! My Partner and I decided to stroll in last night as we both felt like a bit of Japanese for dinner. This place's decor was the first thing which stood out to us.
It looks amazing inside! Coupled with amazing service from the young waiter, simply delectable food in generous portions and a cold Asahi Beer, the entire atmosphere of the place was to die for.Thank you very Much Kaiseki Ichizen, We will be back and we will bring more people with us!

Great food and fast service. As a family we all throughly enjoyed the food. For 2 adults and 2 children we spent $85, that was with a glass of wine a beer and 2 lemonades. Will definitely be going again!

I had the tempura set menu. I'm afraid it was over battered and soggy. Great decor and good service
but food needs improvement as other reviewers suggest.
Kaiseki Ichizen is a fairly new Japanese restaurant behind a block of shops in Dannemora. Literally down the road from my place so my friend and I thought we'd give it a try. The decor is absolutely beautiful. Place still kind of smells like new furniture or maybe wet paint - definitely wasn't pleasant.

I think they have a lot of improvements to make in terms of food - very bland in my opinion. We ordered the cheese and prawn gyoza, horenso- the spinach in miso sauce, yakitori pork belly in teriyaki sauce and grilled cheese oysters. The dumplings/gyoza was dry and hard and lacked any real flavour. The pork belly was overcooked and was seriously hard to enjoy. It was probably only a step away from being jerky. The grilled cheese oysters were good - nothing special though. Spinach was spinach lol - probably still the best dish of the night.

Slightly disappointed in our experience here but will give another visit in the future if I hear they've improved ☺️

The restaurant had a great atmosphere. The decor was very traditional and there was soft music playing the the background. The lunch menu was not very extensive but the staff were very helpful in offering us the full menu as one of our companions is vegetarian. They offered a few lunch sets as well as the al lacarte menu. The sets were around $16 each.

I ordered the medium sized sashimi and a salad. The fish was very fresh and in good portion size. The salad was also on point. The overall experience was great!

This place is quite new, so I thought I'd drop by for lunch. Decor is cute. Food is okay, nothing that stood out. i would've of liked more options. But the staff were really friendly ++

Love coming here for lunch! Great sets to choose from and great value for money considering the fresh sashimi that comes with the sets. Fried tofu is a favourite of mine and my bf loves the grilled eggplant! A regular spot for great jap food for us!

Been to a few Japanese restaurants, and this place definitely has the best decor. It's cute and has a nice peaceful vibe to the place.

Seeing as it's our first time here, we decided to go a little BIG with our food choices. We ordered the massive lunch gozen, the teriyaki beef lunch set and some takoyaki. The standout was the teriyaki beef which was cooked nicely- still a bit pink in the middle and not tough and also the tempura. Probably the best tempura batter I've come across. So light and crispy. Yum!!
The rest of the food was average- the sukiyaki beef was a bit bland unfortunately.

Not a bad place to dine. Good service and a really nice atmosphere. Kudos to the interior design people. :)

Really nice decor inside here, they've really made an effort to create a natural rustic look. I adore the teacups they serve, they weren't too small like most places. To eat, we ordered the Beef Tataki which was great value for money and definitely a dish I'd recommend ordering again. The Gyoza was juicy inside so be careful of the hot liquid that may splatter out. As for the salmon nabe, it was a good dish but didn't stand out much for me.

On my second visit, I tried the deep fried tofu which I highly recommend- the tofu was super soft with a light, chewy, crispy exterior, and topped with a sweet miso sauce. I only wish there was a bit more sauce! It complemented the tofu well, and this was far from bland. The soft shell crab salad was a great serving similar to a lunch salad size with a light sesame dressing. Those two dishes were really good and worth their price in flavour and size so I'm glad I went back to this spot and gave it another go. House sake is really smooth and easy to drink, and the peach jelly sake is light and refreshing without being overly sweet!

Great surroundings - they have really made an effort here. Service good. We enjoyed our prawn Gyoza ( although the prawns must have been minced) and our chicken katsu and our sushi but were disappointed with the teriyaki beef. for $20. Expected it to be warm, seared on the outside and slightly pink in the middle - we thought it lacking. Will probably return one day but it's not a" rush back " to place.
