Review Faro Korean Grill - Auckland Central

Edward Wong
Paid NZ$48 for 2 persons dinner. The toufu stew soup and pork stew soup were tasty. The rice was soft. The side dishes were tasty too. However, service was slightly lacking - the inside of the cup was found to be oily and I have to ask for a change, then it was difficult to get their attention to top up the side dishes although only 4-5 tables were occupied and the printer was out of order when I asked for the receipt. I paid cash as there is a surcharge of 2.5% if pay by credit card.

We had nephew's birthday dinner at Faro Newmarket. It's handy to park at the Westfield car park just opposite the restaurant with 2 hours free parking. Food is nice, portion not very big but the dishes we ordered seem like the onions have a bigger portion.

Awesome birthday family dinner! My eldest granddaughter spent her 7th birthday dinner in this cozy, clean and nice place. As she loves to eat Korean barbecue, this was the top recommendation. This was our 2nd visit though as we also had lunch 2 years ago. Lovely receptionist and staff. Keep up the good work guys. Highly recommended

The BBQ package was reasonably priced and quality of the meat was good. Their lunch meals are good too and so was the side dishes. You can get 1 refill of the side dishes free.

Simply beautiful meal! We have the $130 set BBQ menu for 2. It comes with nine beautiful quality side dishes and selection of meats and salads which accompanied with a tasty soup. Highly recommend this restaurant and prefer New Market over Lorne St. 4.5*

Pros: Quality meat in their selection (for BBQ) Good ambience Great customer service Cons: $$$ cost per order vs serving amount Recommended: Samgyeop (Honeycomb Pork Belly) Galbi (Prime Steer Beef Short Ribs)

We dined here a fortnight ago. The food was lovely - flavourful, well presented, big servings. Service was quick and the waitress was very helpful with explaining the menu. I am vegetarian and my friend is a meateater. We really loved the food and will be back another time.

I used to go quite often to the one in city. This was the second time to try the one in Newmarket and I have to say that I liked it a lot, nothing to envy to the store in city. Really quality dishes at a good price. I will absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Korean barbecue that is not a buffet or if you are looking to try some Korean dishes. They have quite many options in their menu and also drinks options, if you decide to try the barbecue, I suggest you accompany it with Soju as a drink. This has to be one of the best Korean restaurant I tried so far in Newmarket area. A place that you have to go if you are in the area.

We went as a large group (11 people) and we really enjoyed the experience. Great food, A LOT of options and super friendly staff who explained each bit of the process and menu.

I came back after the fire which closed them for a bit. The place looks similar to how it used to which is good. The menu is also the same. Had the galbi stew and it was really nice with the sweet meaty brith and the tasty meat. The sizzling spicy pork and octopus was also quite nice and not super spicy. I did find it weird that there was pineapple in it. The food is tasty as always and worth the visit.

Went there a couple of times for dinner and lunch. The beef ribs stew is out of this world delicious, the meat just melt in your mouth 😘, and the soup was full of flavour~~ The bbq was also very good, a little pricey at dinner, but if you go at lunch time you can get the lunch special👍~~

Great place for Korean BBQ. The restaurant is clean and spacious and has an upbeat atmosphere. Staffs are friendly and willing to help. The menu prices are on the slightly higher side compared to some, but remain reasonable.

I'm in love with this place. Just came back from Korea last month and I can tell you this place is quite authentic. If you are on a budget just order a bibimbap otherwise share a BBQ or order various dishes to share. Recommended drink Bohae black raspberry wine (alcoholic drink)

It's rare we visit a restaurant and all of us love every dish ordered, especially when a majority of us aren't familiar with the place, cuisine and even some of the key ingredients. Chicken, beef and prawns were our meats of choice in order of preference & quantity/number of dishes ordered. They were all awesomely flavoured, the BBQ grilling's pretty simple & works great, the sides/extras were exciting to try and unexpected in their taste :D People who usually dislike beef and one that doesn't eat seafood more than 1-2 times a year loved the deliciousness infused within! Try a couple of appetizers and get into the mains (with rice)... having already eaten a meal an hour before arriving, I still slowly over-stuffed myself in the great couple of hours we spent here. Decent drinks menu (odd that the likeable Plum Iced Tea didn't have ice/wasn't chilled, but hey, it's winter so that worked out well for me), ... quick & good service (extra tissues would be appreciated beyond the 1 each on the table), ... lively & enjoyable ambience with cool seating options, ... incredible food (no desserts, though?) for a cost that's worth it, ... you'll undoubtedly leave smelling of it all, too. . . so, mostly a super positive experience!

Very nice and affordable Korean bbq. 100$ for 3 ppl at lunch time! Highly recommend

By far the best Samgyeopsal i have tried 😋 Meat was of good quality! And the staff were accomodating. The place was not crowded which is a big plus considering (covid cases rising). A bit pricey but worth every cent as quality is 💯🙌

EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY ON UBER EATS! So with Uber promo 15% off you pretty much get free delivery. I wanted something low calories so I got the soup. My wife ate the rice and bibimbap. Very tasty. Very nice. Will be ordering again for sure. Under $20pp

First time coming to Faro without going for their barbecue. We ordered the Bulgogi, Bibimbap, Doen-Jang and Cold Noodle dishes.<br/><br/>I especially liked the Beef Bulgogi which was tender and excellently flavoured. And the Cold Noodles which were chewy and well flavored. <br/><br/>The Bibimbap was above standard and the Doen-Jang Soup didn’t look very appetizing.<br/><br/>The mains came with 6 side dishes. I didn’t check whether they were refillable or not.<br/><br/>Cosy but comfortable ambience and friendly staff. The dishes were reasonably quick to serve.<br/><br/>They are extremely busy so booking in advance would be preferred.<br/><br/>Priced at the premium end.<br/><br/>Taste: 8.5/10<br/>Presentation: 8/10<br/>Service: 8/10<br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Value for money: 8/10<br/><br/>Price $40 per person (excl alcohol)

The beef bulgogi stew...... really hits the spot. The smell alone is enough to make you squirm with the desperation to shovel it down. But the taste..... oh my .... with the beef being tender and the rice soaking up the stew .... that was on a whole other level of deliciousness. However, maybe it's just my personal preference but the raw capsicum just didn't fit... hmm maybe cucumber would have a better refreshing feeling after the strong hit of stew.

BBQ on the table is a nice experience. Quality food but not really sure if it’s worth the price. Complimentary Tofu soup is my least favourite and the meat was my favourite. Good customer service.
Rhea
For me personally it’s the best Korean restaurant in Auckland. The service is great. I love their bbq with variety of side dishes. The kimchi soup and tofu soup is full of flavour. Overall great Korean bbq!

Its always nice to know that there is a korean restaurant near our place. The food never failed us. Its been our 10th time to eat here and still loving it.

I've been to Faro a few times for their Korean BBQ which I found to be quite expensive. So this time, I opted to have their a la carte menu and had their Kim Sam Gyeop and Ice Cold Noodles.<br/><br/>The Kim Sam Gyeop came in a hot plate with slices of pork belly, Kimchi, Cabbage, corn and cheese. It was a delicious combo. The cold noodles was nice and refreshing.<br/><br/>I found the side dishes on offer at Faro acceptable. But i have had better at other Korean restaurants.

Can’t image there is no waiter and waitress in dinning area for around 10 mins, all in the kitchen. At every beginning we said we can order now and one waitress said please wait a moment and went away. Very understated at that time, cause she may busy to service the other table first. But after that over 10 mins we can’t see any staff around. Is that normal? No my first time here, but the worst service that I experienced. Will not come back again.
Hello
😃👍

It looks way different from the menu so we asked one of the staff and he said it’s different daily. they should have wrote on the menu or mentioned when we order. It was not good and waste of money. Other than that soups were nice though.

Great Korean BBQ spot. Really enjoyed the beef ribs and encores after the first plate.<br/><br/>Non-bbq food is also top quality esp tofu stew. Not as spicy as the traditional Korean version but still pack of flavor.
Pig Cat
Nice decor and dining ambience. A lot of options to choose from menu. BBQ Pork belly (Sam Gyeop) that I ordered was freshly-made and tasted yummy. But it comes with small portion.

Not bad! Food was great, alittle under portioned but great! The waiting staff is severely understaffed unfortunately :(<br/><br/>Also didnt know about the service call button as they didn't mention it but oh well.
Emily
Nice location and atmosphere . Very filling meal and left quite satisfied. The owners were very nice and cooked all the meat for us as most of us didn't know how to.<br/>Well marinated meat, fresh vegetables, this worth a try.

Haven’t been here in quite awhile so was pleasantly surprised to see they have renovated. Food still remains the same though... delicious! The lady working there helped us get our korean bbq skills going. Service was great, food was great. Highly recommend to others! 😊

Awesome food, got the combo deal for 4 people and there was so much food! Helpful and friendly staff. Love the side dishes as well. Drink 2+2 is only on house wine, beer and soft drinks.

Came here with my whole family, they were very accommodating with my 7 months old nephew. Service was very excellent, and friendly. Would come back again

It’s one of my fav Korean restaurant. Even better dining environment after reopen. Love the plum tea, side dishes and the butter shrimp. But the shrimp is not taste fresh as always. Still would go with a friend for cold winter with hotpot and bbq. And hope their waitress could speak English and serving around.

Lovely atmosphere and service. In the great location. Their grilled mackerel was the best. Pork bbq was good, beef tongue quality was crap, Galbi was way too sweet,,,, Faro salad had hardly any dressings. Deep fried prawns were good but side salad tasted bit odd. Only for my taste, everything was quite sweet, meat and all the side dishes. Lots of sugar was used. Nice place we had lovely dinner but not for my taste. Also a bit pricey for the portions they serve. $30 for the table set is way too much for what you get. Overall average.
Lizzie
Highest quality Korean bbq for sure! The marinated meat is delicious. Also the pork and squid dish is yum! The decor of the restaurant is also great and trendy! Very high class. Would be a perfect 5 stars but the service let’s the place down. The waiters often don’t seem to know what they are doing in terms of lighting the grills and aren’t very attentive which is a let down.

Well. When i get in there, there were 2 waitress in front of us. But they were busy talking each other and didn’t welcome and even reply me when i said 2 people please. I got the menu by my self and needed to ask for water and spoons. Hum...i expected a lot as they re opened recently... for the food, i ordered spicy soup but was sweet....side dishes were good.

Amazing!!! Delicious food!!<br/>Absolutely love this place, my favourite place to go when I visit Auckland!!! Can't wait too go back and enjoy another meal here!!! 👍😊💕

Korean bbq should always be cooked on a charcoal grill!<br/>Faro has been one of my favourite goto korean bbq places in Auckland. They’re not cheap, but their food is worth it. <br/><br/>Food 4/5<br/>Service 4/5<br/>Setting 4/5

Dinner seems a little bit dear, I went there for lunch instead. I ordered a lunch special set “Rice & Korean BBQ Grill Plate with Marinated Boneless Beef Fillets” today, it came with 6 side dishes. 5 out of 6 side dishes can be refilled once on complimentary basis.<br/><br/>Overall, I’m impressed with the food quality, price (I paid $17) and the ambience 👍🏻 If you would like to try out their food and don’t want to spend too much as well, lunch is definitely a good idea 😊

Love tofu stew, and beef seasoned very well. I couldn't stop coming back for more.<br/>Customer service needs improved as sometimes when they get busy, they can be a little rude.<br/>Overall it is a clean, private place for Korean cuisine experience.

Food is always living up to the high standards and are always consistent (with factors such as flavour). You can really satisfy your authentic Korean food cravings and you will leave with wanting to come back again. The staff are quick and polite and the ambience is nice with some Kpop always jamming in the background. Price is definitely worth the food and I highly recommend as I will be visiting some time soon! :)

Bad service, ordered fish egg soup and there were 3 small pieces of fish eggs, then we asked for refill for the small plates, the refill never came back, very disappointed!
Rosanne Choy
The beef in the bibimbap was absolutely amazing! Seasoned perfectly and was also extremely tender. The rice on the other hand tasted a bit too soft and was not for me. <br/>Kimchi pot went well with the rice.<br/>Side dishes tasted nice as always.<br/>I would definitely go again for the beef.

Faro left me with mostly positive impressions. In particular I enjoyed the classic and yet simplistic decor, and the spacious table layout. The layout is made up of mostly divided booths that sits up to four people with plenty of elbow and leg room.<br/><br/>The food is very fresh, tasty and of good quality. We had the Dumplings, Faro Salad, Bulgogi SSAM, two types of BBQ meats, Seafood Soup, and the standard side dishes.<br/><br/>The price of the "Location tax" can definitely be felt as most of the dishes are somewhat overpriced for what you get. This is particularly the case with the meats which is noticeably pricier than other similar Korean BBQ restaurants. <br/><br/>Another area of minor annoyance is the lack of ammenties on the tables as is far more common than it should be in restaurants (e.g. napkins). We also had to ask for individual dishes which should really have been on the table in the first instance. The service was other very friendly and attentive.
Jinjing Fang
Best Korean bbq I’ve had so far!! Like their fresh pork belly, marinated chicken and fried beef (bulgogi). Cold noodles are our happy ending :) The service was prompt and friendly. Will go there for another time.
I_like_pickles
They have lots of set menu and lunch special deals on their menu. I really like the set up if the restaurant. It feels very private with the booths and sectioned off dining areas. It's very cosy and gives the feeling of a private dining area.<br/><br/>The food with multiple side dishes is well presented and gives off a banquet type of feast.<br/><br/>There are lots of options but it's not the cheapest Korean on the market. Some of the items are a lot pricier than other places and for what it is. Their Japchae or chop-chae for example, is $18 and you can get it for $11 at other places. Same goes for their cold noodles.<br/><br/>Would definitely return with a group of 4.
HelenMeng2000
The portions here are average for entrees, but super good for lunch mains and food is really good. You can also refill side dishes for free and the waiter and waitress were so nice. They helped us cook the meat and chatted to us. The food is a bit expensive as well but the interior is nice and there are separate booths. :)

We've been here several times and they never failed us. <br/>I had beef spare rib stew and my partner had the bulgogi. Both of our dishes were yummy with great portion. The meat were super tender and well seasoned. <br/>The service was nice too. The waitress kept asking us if we need more small dishes that they offer ( for free) and refill it very quickly for us.<br/>Highly recommend this place.

Went to lunch today, great food, reasonable price and great customer services. It could be even better if they would give us a bit more of the delicious side dishes.

My partner and I came here for dinner! We're insane meat lovers so we were excited to try something different. Unfortunately, the sides were very foreign to us (aside from the potato salad). We tried everything though because we were open to the experience, but really didn't enjoy it. The chicken however tasted amazing. 2 portions was a really good amount for the chicken - but my partner (being a big eater) wasn't too impressed. Although the experience was great, I probably wouldn't go back for the price we paid.
Heidi
Delicious food and didn't take too long after ordering. We ordered Kim sam gyeop which is the stir fried pork belly with kimchi and corn. Very delicious and flavourful. The six side dishes were nice to have and try and guessing what it was was very funny. We also order the bulgogi ssam which is beef on radish and lettuce. The beef was still warm which was nice and tasted very fresh.

My boyfriend took me there for my birthday and the food was AMAZING. The meat melted in my mouth like butter and the side dishes were unique and very delicious, better than most Korean restaurants I've been to. I'll definitely go back there again and bring my family and friends along too!! ❤️ thank you for the wonderful experience ❤️

Stopped by for a birthday dinner.<br/><br/>We ordered a double order of pork belly, beef tongue and beef rib for 5 people. The meat was cooked over a charcoal BBQ with an exhaust fan over the burner as to not smoke out the restaurant. Nice quality meat and the marinade on the short rib was really tasty. There was also a large assortment of side dishes, some familiar like kimchi and bean sprouts, and others not so much. We also ordered a "fresh" soju which was quite smooth.<br/><br/>Good service although there was a wrong order and they did read back the order. Came to about $40pp for quite a bit of meat.

-_-<br/>Everything was nice and lovely, but then when we asked for our first refill for the jelly (side dish) the waitress told us they had run out of it. So I asked if there were other different side dishes that we didn't have. The waitress said that the side dishes we had were the only ones available not including the jelly. So I just asked for more kimchi. This was around 7:30 pm and they close around 10 pm so how can they not have anymore left? Need to stock up ur side dishes better. HOWEVER, my sister went to faro after we had left on the same night. My sister had jelly along with other side dishes which we didn't have!! The food was nice but I really don't like liars :|<br/>The last photo is my sister's side dishes.

So Disappointed!!!!! I went here at lunch time with my friends and all ordered the lunch barbecue special ($100 overall) and was shocked at how little meat they gave us, I gotta say the meat was good quality but the serving size was way too small. Also the side dishes refill were so small and when we would buzz for the waitress attention for refills, we had to buzz 2-3 times just to get their attention which was annoying as the place wasn't busy at all.

My Partner & I went to Faro, Newmarket last night. Great atmosphere, great food and we took our own wine so the food came to be a fairly decent price.<br/><br/>The one thing that impressed us the most was how clean the establishment was and the fact that the staff were cleaning the tables and BBQs so thoroughly once the diners had left. Very impressed! <br/><br/>I really want to give them 5 stars but, the waitresses did not really know what the sides where that they were serving us. It could have been the language barrier but it would have been nice if they had the sides on the menu, or the waitresses knew what they were. <br/><br/>Otherwise, everything else was fantastic and we will defiantly be back.
Marggie Pascua
Classic Korean BBQ and side dishes are really good. Seats are usually fully booked so you have to book in advance for your spot. Amazing food and quality. Would love to come back again. The prices are quite pricey compared to other Korean restaurants but it is worth it. Should go there not too hungry if you want to try to do the traditional Korean BBQ where you have to cook it yourself. The side dishes are really good.
Josh
One of the fluent English speaking Korean waitress was absolutely rude. We were asking politely for some more side dishes and just needed one refilled out of the many, she interupts us in the middle of the sentence and picks up all of the empty side dishes on our table very violently. That was okay, she must've been quite busy. We waited for a good 3 to 5 minutes, but our side dish was nowhere to be seen. We pressed the bell once again because we needed more rice. The same person comes up and speaks ahead rudely assuming: "is it because of the side dishes?". Wow. Actually, we need one more bowl of rice. She walks off again and this time brought our rice, but not the side dish. Of course, being the violent first impressionist she is, she slams it down on the middle of the table. I understand that people need to work fast, but this is not a good way to serve someone.<br/><br/>While we're at it, let's talk about the amount of rice they give you. Every other Korean restaurant I've been to will fill your typical metal bowl FULL of rice. That's just simply the standard. Faro newmarket is the only place I've been to that will only fill it up to two-thirds. Never have I opened a metal rice bowl with such disappointment. We wouldn't have even needed to order a second bowl if they gave us the proper amount. Not only is the price super expensive overall, they give you tiny amounts in return; especially the meat.<br/><br/>Back to the story. Without surprise, she never came back with our one side dish we asked for. We pressed the bell once again after having to wait patiently for another good 3 minutes, and this time a different waitress came. We told her nicely that it was the third time we're having to ask for side dishes, and she kindly brought us refills in an instant.<br/><br/>In short, it took us around 7 to 8 minutes to get a side dish and had been treated badly by a waitress with an attitude. I don't expect them to be kind, but I do expect them to not be as rude.<br/><br/>It would be unfair to end the review on just poor customer service, so I will expand on some other points. The food, especially the meats, are served in small amounts. They taste nice, but you may be disappointed as to how much you paid for it. The interior is good and the seats are comfortable.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, after having such an experience and being treated badly, I will never be returning to Faro newmarket. It's just not worth the price and service they provide.
Emma Patricia Katili
The servers here are not exactly the best and they can be really busy. The food here is great though. The meat portions for the barbeque are a bit small but their side dishes make up for it.
Grace Sifa
cool setup with private table.. quite expensive and i have had better korean bbq still tasted okay though .. enjoyed the sides but so expensive to buy more meat
Natasha
Good spot for a quick filling lunch in Newmarket. Really enjoyed the spicy chicken and the sides were interesting. Staff were pleasant and efficient.<br/>Would definitely try again.

Been to Korea many times for Holiday, this is the closest you will get for Korean BBQ,  Nice place, Been to this place every time I go up to Auckland.<br/><br/>Portions is OK, for Korean BBQ,<br/>Table seating is OK and room to move,<br/>Just be careful when you in a group of 4 as the table gets stacked with so many food on it,<br/><br/>If you order the set menu for 2 , you probably need to order a extra meal on top, if you wana get a full stomach. <br/><br/>YES, I would go back
Patriz De Leon
Talk about the best Korean BBQ in town! My husband and I are both Korean BBQ lovers and this is by far the best we've been to. I find it quite cool that the interior is traditional where some tables require you to sit on floor.<br/><br/>We always order meats for the grill such as the Mok Sam Gyeop (Marinated Pork Belly) and Ggot Sal (Marinated Boneless Beef Rib Fillet). Both come with several side dishes with kimchi, mashed kumara and jelly-like one I like the most. The meats are well marinated and taste really good! The pork belly is spicy (and a bit sweet) and the beef rib is sweet. Rice is a must when ordering those!<br/><br/>I guess the only downside for me is that you'll be covered with bbq smell once you get out of the resto! But can't do anything about that and happens to all Korean bbq place.<br/><br/>Price is reasonable too so highly recommended!<br/><br/>

Fantastic place. Was in a bit of a search for proper Korean cuisine and glad to say I have found one. My partner in crime and I ordered the $90 2 people set, and it sure was delicious and ample. Made a slight mistake however thinking that all the meats on the list was included 😅. You can choose only one (yes greedy aren't I). Which was more than enough for both of us. Service was great and waitresses were all friendly and ever helping: I made a reservation for a booth table specifically (the day before), but was got escorted to an open table. Yet, I asked again and they eventually directed us back to a booth, A+ in my opinion. Most other places would just dead drop the word-"no", so thank you. It was a great atmosphere too, stayed there till it closed ... I think the team "slightly" didn't like it for staying that long haha. Don't blame me, it was good place to talk and eat, didn't know how fast the time went. I would recommend it to anyone who wants great Korean food, nice Korean-ish atmosphere, great friendly team and also a nice parking lot right across it, can't miss it. So, go on and make your reservations people!

I visit this restaurant on monday with my family for the lunch. Best korean bbq I ever had in the Auckland. The quality of meat was superb, and the service was also fabulous. All the side dishes go together very well it was just like harmony of beautiful orchestra. Doing good work guys, i will definitely come back again.
Michelle Ma Belle
My friend recommended this place, and I could not be happier with her choice. There have booths/cabin seats which are nice and private. Yummy kimchi/side dishes. I ordered their sweet and spicy pork ribs and the quality of the meat was very nice. Glad to find a decent Korean restaurant near Auckland Central :)
May I.
Faro was a pleasant surprise. Stopped by for a quick Sunday lunch and was impressed by the interior, service and esp the food. Prices were very reasonable too. Definitely be back for more!

This place was amazing! We were really bad at doing the bbq, as this was our first time at this place so the Manager Ricky really looked after us. Wouldn't be surprised if the staff were secretly laughing at our bbq'ing skills because we were just terrible, but the staff were so nice and helpful and made our whole experience really worthwhile. Only downside was their portions of meat were very small, but I liked how they gave several small side dishes which was really great to see and taste! I would defiantly come back for another anniversary date. Let's hope we are better with the bbq haha!
Di
Came here to try their slow-cooked chicken stew, but unfortunately it has been cancelled from their menu. I then ordered a spicy silken tofu soup with seafood, it was absolutely a good choice in such a cold day.
Denise
This is my favorite Korean BBQ place to date. Their lunch set meal specials are really reasonable ($25 per person) and they taste amazing. The meats are all really well marinated and the little side dishes, although different every time, always taste good as well.<br/>The atmosphere at this place is also really nice, especially if you get a group of more than 4 together and get to sit at the lower set tables near the entrance.<br/>The staff here are always friendly too and help you figure out how to use the BBQ if you struggle a bit the first time like myself.
Will Zheng
One of my favorite Korean BBQ restaurants. It's expensive, but has great taste. The L.A ribs, (L.A 갈비) was perfectly marinated and was very tasty. We also had the Pork Belly, (상겹살) which was also delicious. The Ox Tougne was good, but it didn't really have that Ox Tongue flavor, so it could have been better. The Kimchi Soup (김치 찌개) and Dolsot Bibimbap (돌솥 비빔밥) was also fantastic!!
Jess
One of my favourite Korean BBQ places. It's a bit pricier, but the atmosphere feels very classy. You can choose to either grill the meat yourself (where they will set up a grill for you) or order a set that's already been grilled by them in the kitchen (so like any other restaurant). I've been here a couple times, and while grilling the meat myself is fun, the lunch set ($14-15) is great for when you don't have a LOT of time to sit around and chat while you grill. Also I'd like to dedicate this sentence to the heavenly tenderness of their meats - soft and juicy, my mouth is watering again. The table setting is also really nice, they have options for big groups and smaller groups, and what's great is the dividers between each table so you really get a sense of privacy and are able enjoy your company and your company only. Definitely coming here again...and again and again. 😊
NessJD
I absolutely love this Restaurant. I've had the pleasure of enjoying this amazing experience on a few occasions now. The atmosphere is private yet buzzy. Individual booths are definitely the way to go for this exciting cultural cuisine. All the dishes are a delight for the palate & the service is friendly & inviting. A definite must for lovers of Korean food & even first timers. A meal you'll enjoy & want to come back for.
Christian
It's a good place not the best value for money kind of Korean food. Nice setting with well presented food. If you want to bring a special one for some lovely Korean dinner then choose this place.

My partner and I arrived at Faro around 5.30pm without a booking. There were no customers dining in at this time but the waiters took awhile noticing we were even there. I had to call them out myself instead of being welcomed in like most restaurants. <br/><br/>After getting seated, we ordered a table set for $20 and 2 plates of galbi + ggotsal. When the table set came out we were disappointed to see only three tiny pieces of fish jon and some unappealing oily pieces of ham that looked liked leftovers. They could really do a lot better than this; especially for the price we were paying for a seperate "table set", which is usually free at other Korean diners. The portion of ggotsal seemed small for its price and the bean-paste soup was extremely salty (I had to continuously add water to it myself). Again, unlike most other Korean restaurants there was a limit to the refills of side-dishes and some dishes were not allowed any at all (like the petty plate of jon). <br/><br/>Overall, a nice atmosphere but I felt that we were being ripped off and the quality was very average for both the food and service. There are plenty of other Korean restaurants around North Shore that provide much better food and service for the price you are paying.

Disgusting service.<br/><br/>Poorly portioned and non-quality cut meat, I must say my dining experience was a major disappointment. I will most certainly not be back again.<br/><br/>We ordered the special lunch BBQ for two totalling 40$ and I have never felt so ripped off in my life.<br/><br/>Literally 2 chicken thighs and 4 strips of beef was all we got for meat. It took 6-7 buzzes before we could get a refill on our side dishes from the waiter. Like honestly what's the point of having a buzzing option if your waiter doesn't come when it's buzzed?<br/><br/>There isn't really much else I can type but the service of this place is shit and there are many other better Korean diners around in Auckland.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Great side dishes. <br/><br/>Overall Grade: D+

Came here for dinner on a Friday night. Didn't have a reservation but we were seated within 10 minutes. The guy who served us was really warm and welcoming. We ordered a Cass beer each, the Bulgogi beef and a pork belly dish that came with kimchi and corn. It was delicious and a really generous amount of food. Would love to come back to try more from the menu.

It was a really nice experience, the bbq cooked just tasted so good and the waiters are friendly. We were able to get our side dishes refilled and the portions are good. We had 3 girls going while only ordering 2 bbq dishes. Would definitely go again and they had some very well known good kpop songs playing in the background.

Visited here for lunch once and opted for the bbq set menu.<br/><br/>We ordered the pork and the beef ribs. Each and every one of the side dishes were delicious with nothing to fault, especially when you could ask for more refills.<br/><br/>When the meat arrived, we were surprised with the portions, as one serving of meat was enough to feed 2 people which was well worth the $19.50 spent!<br/>Both meats were delicious. It was nice how this place had charcoal, giving an extra depth of flavour. I think my favourite would have to be the beef ribs, as they were seasoned well and they even removed the bones for easy eating.<br/><br/>Faro staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Ate at this place with friends last night and truth be told, the taste is great. Loved the Beef Bulgogi and the BBQ Pork belly. Highly recommend going to this place with a group of friends. Friends, fire, meat - what more can you ask for (apart from an outdoors setting)?<br/>Only downside? Walking out smelling like charcoal BBQ - it does absorb into your clothes and hair! <br/>Roughly about $25 - $27 per person since we went for the BBQ set and shared some additional dishes.

Best Korean restaurant in Auckland and I frequently visit this place. The BBQ is soooooooo good - the meat is really juicy. Other food in the menu are also very tasty (my favourite is the bibimbap and my husband's favourite is bulgogi beef). Great service as well.

There r 3 restaurants running under faro's name. Korean style in CBD and new market and steak house in Takapuna. I tried all, and the CBD one is my favorite. Comparing with CBD one, new market provides same quality food but less Korean style decoration. The waiter is friendly and helpful. I like all dishes I tried here/CBD, none disappoints me. Best Korean restaurant to me in Auckland.

Didn't really get to take a lot of photos due to the lighting but the food was delicious! My partner and I went for one of the set menu's. The food came out at a very good pace and the quantity was perfect. Good service, great food. Definitely going back.

Very traditional Korean food. Quite pricy but taste good. Indoor has very pretty decoration and services are great. Loved the BBQ dishes and the spicy beef.

Faro was a wonderful experience. We came here and tried the set menu because we really had no idea what to get! It came with a variety of different salads, meat, and side dishes! The staff there were very nice and did quite a bit of the cooking for us, which was strange! It was a nice gesture but we felt as though we couldn't really talk while the lady was cooking for us. Not that we couldn't, it was just awkward. I definitely appreciate the whole thought behind it though! <br/><br/>The meat was very nice, and I especially enjoyed the marinated meats. There were quite a lot of greens that we didn't manage to finish though!<br/><br/>Dessert was a scoop of green tea icecream each which was yum! <br/><br/>Overall the service and environment is great! Though it is more expensive than buffet Korean BBQs, you get more quality meat at Faro. I would definitely come back for Korean BBQ!

Came here for lunch with colleagues. Restaurant is not too busy as it's a rainy day. I ordered slow-cooked beef rib stew, the rest 3 ppl ordered the same "sizzling beef", but we still waited 20mins for the food to come up. All dish is delicious though the portion is a bit small compared to other Korean restaurants. Service is ok,not so friendly but at least the waitress refilled the side dish quickly when we requested. Overall, it's a good place for lunch if you are not in a hurry.

The first time I dined here was a few years ago where I had one of their set menus.  This restaurant transports you to a different place and is nicely decorated.  As a result of that combination, I was under the impression that the food here was on the dearer side and made a mental note to save it for special occasions only.  A few days ago I met up with a friend and realised that there was a selection of ala carte menu items that were actually quite affordable!<br/><br/>The set menu is a fun experience, with a wide selection of Korean side dishes, reminding me of a traditional meal I had when travelling in Seoul.  You get to grill your choice of meats, and the staff are very helpful in making sure you cook it properly.<br/><br/>From the ala carte menu, I ordered the Sundubu (spicy silken tofu with egg and seafood).  This was great for winter, an enjoyable meal  I also liked that the meal came with 6 side dishes, a nice ouch when compared to most Korean eats in Auckland that usually serve 4 side dishes instead.  Would love to go again to try something else from this menu!

Came here for lunch with my sister and boyfriend and we ordered the lunch specials. I ordered Bulgogi and i wasn't too fond of it. It was a bit too sweet for me compared to the bulgogi i get from another korean restaurant. My sister and boyfriend both enjoyed their meals and was impressed with everything. The decor and ambience was amazing. Really authentic. The dishes was a bit pricey but it is good. Overall, it was good.

Very impressed with the decor of this restaurant and the food!<br/><br/> Beautiful interior and the food is excellent! I ordered the sweet and spicy pork with rice and side dishes. Very good portion for $15!<br/> I'd definitely come back for Korean BBQ and to try other things on the menu ☺️<br/><br/> Staff are attentive and friendly despite us just arriving at 2.05pm when their kitchen closes at 2.15pm. Still got seated and took our orders.<br/><br/> Can't fault this place! Highly recommended and will be back ☺️

Attended Faro last evening for a work celebration and the evening was terrific. The food arrived in record time and was delicious from start to finish. The staff were extremely accommodating and we all had a great evening. I would recommend Faro 100% and will be returning in the near future.

The atmosphere was very good, different experience cooking your own food to your liking, service was good and food was nice as well.. Well defiantly recommend and go back again

This puts to shame the kiwi hot stone grill which are novel but impractical. Real grunty flame and loads of meat is a kiwi males ideal cooking format. Faro is not super flashy and still relaxing something like Habashi Japanese that I experienced in new York city but a more personal scale. Cooked in front of you layout is fun. Id certainly return for maybe a less meat more seafood diet. <br/>Hard to rate the cooking but the marinated variety of meats beef, pork and chicken is ample in the set menu. The token one mushroom among 5 diners was a little odd. Showered in salads and green lettuce. A overall better than novel way to dine. Wilson parking across the road as street parking difficult in Newmarket.

My brother was craving Korean food last night and so we decided to check out Faro as it was actually open on Boxing Day.  None of us actually felt like getting Korean BBQ though, so we all just ordered dishes from the menu.<br/><br/>To begin with, we all shared the chop-chae which was savoury and fragrant with sesame oil.  I enjoyed this dish.<br/><br/>For my main, I ordered the kim sam gyeop which was a hot plate over a flame with cabbage, pork belly, kimchi and pineapple on it.  I enjoyed this dish - the pork belly had a nice grilled flavour and its richness was cut through by the kimchi.  However, I wasn't sure about the tinned pineapple on there as I'm not a big fan of it to begin with.<br/><br/>My husband had the yuke jang (spicy beef soup) which was delicious, spicy and warming.  I would be tempted to get this next time.  My mother had the sundubu (spicy silken tofu pot) which she really enjoyed as well.  The spicy soups definitely seemed to be something you can't go wrong with here.<br/><br/>On the other hand, my sister and father had the bulgogi pot which they found a bit too sweet for their liking.  My brother ordered the bibimbap but was disappointed as this is a dish he has often.  He found it to be inauthentic - there were salad leaves and alfafa sprouts in there and the rice came in a bowl on the side and not in the hot pot, missing the opportunity for it to be properly incorporated or to become golden and crispy.  The sides that came with our dishes were quite good although we were disappointed that some of our favourites weren't on offer (sesame mung beans and sweet soy potato).<br/><br/>The service was very polite although one of our dishes was forgotten about until we asked about it and our meals came out at quite varying times.  The place is nice and spacious (as in the tables aren't crammed together), although even if you're not getting the BBQ (and even though they have special chimney fume extractors), it's hard to avoid coming out smelling like smoke.   They have high chairs which was a plus for us.  It is definitely a bit pricier than other Korean restaurants in Auckland and although not the best Korean food you can get either, it's not bad.

What a fun experience! We visited Faro last night to celebrate the end of our work year, and had a great time. <br/><br/>I tried a herb rice wine, Bek Se Ju, while we barbecued over a hot grill in the middle of the table. It's a great way to get to know new people at a work function- you're bound to talk to your grill-mates! <br/><br/>The sides were plentiful and were refilled when we asked, and the service was prompt and friendly. I particularly liked the waitresses' pink silk aprons, which were a gorgeous traditional touch. A seafood soup served as part of our meal with really tasty, despite being something I wouldn't usually order. The meats were well-marinated and very tasty, and I really enjoyed trying everything on offer, including kimchi, raw potato in vinegar, and lotus root in caramel sauce. <br/><br/>I would definitely go back for the delicious food and relaxed environment.

Faro New Market. Best Korean meal ever!. If you are looking for Korean fine dining restaurant this is where you want to visit I had quality service here. Staff is kind and helpful. I don't normally write review but i write this cuz few comments below complains how expensive it is comparing with other Korean restaurant but they seriously just stick with low standard $10 meal Korean restaurant why would you expect free side dishes in first place anyway at fine restaurant. It is very reasonable and not expensive actually cheap if you compare to other fine dining restaurant (I spent $78 for charcoal-grill bbq and it was more than enough for two of us) so please don't fall for those cheap ppl's comments.

I have always enjoyed eating here! Place is<br/>easy to find at nuffield and there is plenty<br/>of parking! Lunch time specials are good<br/>value for money and service is friendly!<br/>The girls are helpful if you have never had<br/>Korean bbq style cooking they will do it for<br/>you!

I really like Faro Grill Dining, quite authentic and delicious. Good service and a great location. A little expensive but good nonetheless... If you enjoy Korean food check this place out.

Yes, this place is fabulous. We got the grill dining - and cooked the chicken and the beef ourselves over the table grill. The waitress was very nice, and helpful to assist with our cooking (as we didn't know what were doing!)<br/><br/>A very cool feature is the extractor pipes that hover above the grill and remove any smoke from the cooking.<br/><br/>The sides were extremely delicious. Especially the seaweed, which was my favourite one.<br/><br/>A point for improvement, would have been for the waitress to ask if we would like to order any rice as an extra dish. We didn't realise till half way through that we had the option to buy some.<br/><br/>Each of us tried a different kind of Korean bottled beer - which were both super-chilled and excellent.<br/><br/>Faro was just a really great experience. I definitely recommend.

Great food!<br/><br/>However just overpriced...For the same kind of Korean food, I prefer to go to Paradise Korean Buffet for just $25!<br/><br/>Everytime I eat here, just to fill myself up it will cost at least $50...<br/><br/>However, this is the place to take a Korean girl out on a date. She will love you for it!<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Wait time: 4/5<br/>Environment: 3/5<br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/>Food Quantity: 3/5<br/>Price range: $40+ pp

Our family went to the restaurant (7 people including 1 small kid) for a special occasion. We ordered a fixed "table" set for $20 (which is a few small dishes of traditional Korean side dishes that are normally free at other Korean restaurants), a few dishes of bbq meat, some hotpots and other dishes and a few drinks. <br/><br/>After we finished ordering, a waitress came and said we needed to order 2 "table set" because we have 7 people and therefore it's considered as "2 tables" even we booked a table for 7 and the menu clearly stated $20 per table, not per 4 people or anything. <br/>We've then advised them that it's fine to have 1 table set only as a few of the people in the group do not like those side dishes. <br/><br/>Then they advised they are normally free refills but because we ordered 1 set, we are not entitled for free refills of the side dishes. <br/>We've told them that's fine because the few of us only wanted to have a tasting of the side dishes only. <br/><br/>Then the waitress advised that we are only allowed to use one of the BBQ grill on the table, not both because we only ordered 1 "table set'. That really surprised us as we already ordered quite a few BBQ dishes, not 1. We were here for korean bbq and half of the fun of the meal is to cook our own meat on the grill, so it is overly disappointing if we were only allowed to use 1 of the grill which is at one side of the table. <br/><br/>They insisted we are only allowed to have 1 grill unless we order 1 more table set. <br/><br/>By that time most of us already felt it's ridiculous and we decided to walk away. <br/><br/>Why are there so many unwritten rules (none of them are common in any other korean restaurants we've been to)?<br/>It's almost like the waitress are trying to come up with new "rules" to push us to order additional "table set" that we don't need.<br/><br/>The restaurant may look nice but this is the worst ever dinning experience we had for a long long time and completely ruined this special family occasion.
Warren Bruce Muller
The food is really good and tasty.....however the inability by the waitress to explain the menu was frustrating ...as they have barbecue combinations, and we ended up over ordering....The atmosphere is cosy....and especially nice if you get the traditional seats.....Attention needs to be paid to the service which was friendly, but confusing.

Went to Faro Newmarket recently with some family and friends and I definitely want to come back to dine again in the near future. The staff are polite, friendly and hospitable. The food? Very lovely and the ambience in the restaurant as well (complete with Korean music playing in the background which gives the place a Korean feel). Would I recommend this place? Definitely! 5 stars from me

Best Korean in Auckland. Four of us went there for dinner and stayed for four very enjoyable hours eating a huge variety of food and drinks. It came to $45 a head which was reasonable for the about ours friends drank! The service was excellent, they tended our BBQ and cleared and refilled our dishes often. Lovely stylish environment where you get your own booth each. Highly recommended. The Faro in Lorne is great too.

Went with friends there about 8 months ago. Ordered $160 set but surprisingly for 4 of us (girls) it was not enough. The food arrived and it was not enough space on our table to put everything at once as a big BBQ was just wright in the middle of the table . Very expensive for very average food.

4 of us boys headed over to Faro after some drinks about a month ago and ordered the $160 set.<br/>We were accommodated even though it was already quite late, the tofu salad and squid salad came first and were both bloody beautiful, tasty as hell. Then a young lady came and worked the bbq as we enjoyed some wines which we brought along. Staff was so attentive, always walking past to see if our water needed topping up. And to top the night off, a bowl of korean bimbimbap (hot stone bowl rice) which filled the boys up as we headed to Mac's bar down the road.<br/>Food was great, service was great and the environment was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for more!

Faro new market used to be one of my regular places to go but I've since moved work places so it's not as convenient! I do still find time to go to the city branch but the restaurants are quite different in terms of ambience, the city branch is quite open whereas the new market branch is mainly booths are gives you more privacy. The food at both branches are amazing. I love Korean food and this is not exactly traditional Korean, it's slightly fusion and adds to making the taste more original. They serve so many side dishes with and without BBQ which is one of my favourite parts. BBQ is quite pricey compared to other places but still tastes amazing. Their lunch sets are also a winner, you get so much variety for a really decent price.
