I had the seafood special and it was delish. Highly recommend their special meals as there's always something new to try. This time they had a spicy fried chicken and it was amazing!!!

Good food and nice taste, but the portion is small and a bit pricy. Free parking outside.

Been here for years and would always come back. The Chicken Miso Katsu is to die for 🤤

Great food. So far I have only ordered pork katsu x3 for lunch for delivery & once dine in. Foto is from the visit.gotta scan the barcode to pay, a little bit confusing for me.

Such an unexpected gem! Very impressed from our first visit. The beef sukiyaki nabe was amazing and flavourful - haven't eaten a proper sukiyaki in a long time! The kaarage chicken was also fantastic, with two amazing sauces. Overall an amazing Japanese kitchen with great menu variety. Will be coming back for sure.

I tried Chicken Miso Katsu Zen. The menu was really good, the chicken was tender and juicy inside, crispy outside, with special sauce on it. The salad was fresh and tasty. The miso was good. Kojiro provided free hot and cold drink, which I really enjoy. Waiting time a bit long for Japanese restaurant, especially during lunch time.

This place is very popular at lunch time so get in early! The food is priced exceptionally for the quality and quantity. The made to order is very extensive and provides good options for vegetarians. There is fresh sushi available. All food is available as takeaway. One of my favourite cheap Japanese restaurants.

Excellent food. Very delicious. Fast service and lots of Japanese options. Also available is sushi

Good food and choices, can get busy during lunch times. Enough parking available as well for cars. I think they make their own using noodles...

Delicious and well presented Japanese food. The restaurant seems and looks well looked after. Friendly staff. Can be a little pricey for a quick lunch meal.

美味しいですよ!!! My first time visiting today. I had the very reasonably priced chicken karage set and it was yummy - easily as nice as any I've eaten in Japan. Next time I'll give the ramen a crack. ごちそうさまでした!

Ordered 17 plates for pickup/takeaway - group order. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals, value for money and was ready within 20min. Quick and friendly service, will definitely return again!
Such a cute and cozy Japanese restaurant.
I had chicken karaage udon with soy sauce base while my boyfriend got chicken miso katsu chicken with soy sauce base. We both enjoyed our meals and found them really tasty, they were generously portioned too. Really affordable as well and really nice friendly service! Highly recommend :)

This my go to place for lunch from work. I have tried all the vegetarian dishes they have on the menu and every single one is delicious not to mention how huge the portions are. They could definitely add more vegetarian items on their menu though.

Favourite casual Japanese lunch!! Their servings are huge and so value for money! As authentic as you can get as their chefs are Japanese ☺️ everything on their menu is so good but personally their pork katsu curry and chicken soy ramen is such a good combination to get!

Delicious lunch sets. My friend works across the road and I love eating here when I visit him. Pork terkiyaki zen is my favorite. Very good pricing too for good quality meal!

Service: 4/5
Presentation: 4/5
Environment: 4/5
Food Quality: 5/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Price per person: $15-$20

After visiting this outlet a few times after wanting to try for a while.
The pics of the food look all amazing but taste wise is nothing special.
Pricing is okay but servings are petite.
Service from the staff is a lil bland.
Middle of the road outlet for sushi.

Firstly, I don't recall when was the last time I've given an eatery a 5/5, however Kojiro deserves the ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!

#1 - Authentic Japanese
#2 - Good value for money
#3 - Broad variety of dine-in and takeaway options
#4 - Friendly service

Ramen was well portioned and delicious. Broth was great and the best part was the perfectly cooked egg. They gave a full egg instead of half an egg vs. many Japanese restaurants in Auckland these days which only give half an egg and you'll need to pay an extra for the other half (as extra topping).

I would recommend the small Don unless you are really hungry. (Just a reminder to avoid any wastage) :)

P/S: Free tea when dining in.

I highly recommend Kojiro and will definitely be back! Arigato 🙏

Authenticated Japanese food. Really packed shortly after noon.

Used to be in big portions and good value for money. But after changing their menu the portions were smaller.

Good and prompt service though.

This restaurant is too pricy for the quality of food or lack of. They have increased their prices, decreased the volume of food and decreased the size of their serving bowls. 3 small pieces of chicken strips and rice for $10 is ridiculous. The customer service on the other hand is fantastic. They are seriously busy at lunch time because there is no other eatery in this industrialised area which is why they are able to increase prices and downsize portions.

I go quite often for lunch with my colleague, and as few people have mentioned, it’s difficult to find if you are not looking for it. I drove past it for 6 months and didn’t notice until I was looking for new weekday lunch place on here.

The food is good, but I wish they didn’t change their menu, as the old menu was really good price for money. Miso soup and small Danburi dish for $9. But the new menu no longer comes with soup.

I’ve had chicken karaage and pork katsu, both pretty good. However, the flavours are quite sweet so I had to cut back on the frequency after I started commuting often (1ce a week).

I don’t recommend the ramen though. I think I had the pork kakuni, but it was overly sweet and oily on top. I would keep to the rice! Sushi is ok, not bad but quite average I felt, the vinegar is quite weak. Maybe it’s more to kiwi taste (I’m Japanese).

I tried pork teriyaki zen. I liked the miso soup + the boiled egg (semi soft inside 🤣) The pork was not juicy and fibrous. A small candle fire under the pot couldn't make the dish hot enogh.
On the other hand, the pork in pork ramen that my friend tried was more moist and the noodle looked nice. The portion size seemed a little bit small. I want to try a ramen dish next time !

Went here for lunch today with some friends, it was my first time here and I will be back for sure, especially as it is just round the corner from where I work :) great selection on the menu, great taste and quick and friendly service. Highly recommend

Amazing food, definitely recommend the Karaange Chicken, but turns out they don't take table bookings, even though its written here that table booking is recommended. Went once and decided to go again but book before going, but the lady asked to either come earlier or much later for lunch.

This place currently's got a way too low rate to what it has to offer. Tasty, Fresh and Healthy cooked or raw food but still traditional. Nice environment and friendly people. On top of all these, unbeatable prices compared to food quantity and quality.

I have been to Kojiro about 10 times now, and each time has been exceptional. The Zen meals ($14.80) are very large, so I go for the Small Bowls ($8.90). The Miso Katsu Chicken is the best fried chicken I have ever had. The tiramisu was very nice and a good small portion to finish the meal off.
Try to avoid it from 12.30pm til 1pm as it is very busy and hard to get a seat.

This cafe is intended for those working in the industrial area of Penrose. Hence, they only operate during office hours.

However, if you are willing to brave the horrific traffic around this area, Kojiro is worth the try. Friendly staff, clean dining area, fresh, tasty and authentic Japanese food, and very affordable price. It is one of the very few Japanese restos that is actually run by Japanese, not Korean/Chinese.

I hope to come back here for more cheap yet yummy bento meals.

Awesome place for lunch, good range of fresh Japanese food, the salmon and avocado sushi is awesome and the Teriyaki Chicken Zen is delicious and filling. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area - eat in as the decor is pretty nice too.

This place is a little hard to find if you don't know it's there, but if your in the area it's definitely worth checking out. The service is really friendly and welcoming. Parking is easy out front of the restaurant. Inside you'll find plenty of seating if you opt to dine in.

Ready to go sushi is packed for those on the run. There is also a great selection of made to order dishes - including ramen and bentos. I ordered the Chicken miso katsu ramen. Reasonably priced and portioned for $12.50. The dish was really tasty and I was pleasantly surprised with the chicken portion - great value! The chicken was crisp, succulent and full of flavour. The boiled egg was one of the best I've had!

All round I was really pleased with the service and the dish. Will be back to try more options.

Great Ramen Lunch, tasty and hot.
The Ramen had boiled egg, tofu, 5 x large crispy chicken pieces, seaweed and noodles with a very tasty broth.
Good sized serving for $11.00.
A great pop in lunch spot if you are in Penrose.
Would definitely return to the place and recommend it to others. Lots of parking out front.

From the suppliers of Musashi in St Heliers, New Lynn, and Browns Bay come Kojiro: the working man's lunch place.

What you've come to expect from Musashi, you can expect at Kojiro.

8 pieces of salmon avocado for $9.60; a great lunch deal if I ever saw one.
I Am Hungry
We were here today for lunch, food was fresh and good. The place is clean and tidy...ample parking and good decor...only negative...chicken katsu -the chicken pieces were over deep fried...
Melissa
Yummy lunch sets for only $14.80! The portions are so worth the money and it's really filling too.

The first time I came here I had the Chicken Salad Bowl and a Matcha Latte while my aunt had the Chicken Miso Katsu Zen. The salad was so fresh - the veges were really crisp and the dressing was light and tangy. The Matcha Latte was alright on its own but much better when i added sugar xD

I decided to come here a second time with other people and ordered the Chicken Miso Katsu (for myself), Salmon&Tuna Sashimi, and Salmon Nabe. All dishes come with a side salad, miso soup and rice! The Katsu was really crispy and came with mayonnaise. The Salmon Nabe looked really good with the veges and tofu!

I wouldn't recommend getting any sashimi because it didn't feel that fresh, but the cooked meals are definitely worth it!
