Review Sushi Train Chancery Sq - Auckland Central

Verlyn Severson
I should have tried sushi on the train, but I ordered off the menu and unfortunately due to timing had to come back and pick it up so I didn't really get to sit long in the restaurant. This is one cool looking place and they even have a robot that buses tables. Well worth a visit

Super delicious!! Oh my goodness, the seafood is so yummy! Scallops (sooo fresh and sweet) were our favourite, both the sashimi and grilled 😋 A large variety of seafoods, sashimi, sushi, udon, drinks, desserts and more! You can request and order your own choices on the menu or take stuff from the conveyor belt. We tried the udon with tempura, was so YUMMY! Staff and chefs were so kind! Very attentive as well, service is 10/10. Some of our meals were sent by robots, very cool 😆 Atmosphere and restaurant was clean, but can get quite busy! I believe there is an option to book however :) Overall, everything was amazing! Would totally recommend and come back again!

Friendly service here, the sushi are really nice. Spicy scallop is quite special, like it. Also recommend the grilled scallops

Sushi Train had their winter promotion today, they were packed with lots of people. However, the staffs are still very kind and helpful when we were there in the late evening. After waiting for an hour, we then choose to have takeaway and those sushi were packed with so much care. Thank you!

Had lunch with my family including 4 grandchildren. Great food. Enjoyed their sushi and ordered some ramen. My mokos love the cream brulee, tiramisu, and chocolate cookies. Had fun with the ketty bot. Downside, there was a queue. We waited for about 20mins before we had a table for 9. Highly recommended 👍
Sherryk Koswara
Food is good, $5 per plate, any plate. Staff are polite. Premise is kind of bland and the lighting is nothing special but it's a great place to eat anyway.
Mia Pacey
Awesome sushi I love this brand. We mostly order the sushi we want which means they come out freshly made. The chef was great and obviously took pride in her work. We had an early dinner here and there weren't many others in the restaurant when we started so not much on the train yet. Nice selection of beers and traditional wines.
Mimi Duong
The food was served fast and fresh. Yummy as always and so many options, this become my regular stop :) The chef and the foh lady are both friendly. Highly recommended for every sushi lover to try.

I love all things Japanese, and I'm a massive fan of Sushi. The food was fresh and the tastes were authentic. Their Wasabi was some of the best I have ever had, made my nose burn and my eyes water, what a rush.
Kim Mulligan
Love this sushi train. It's pretty conveniently located in the city, plenty of parking nearby. Really casual atmosphere and friendly service. Menu has plenty of options and the quality of sushi is good for the price. Super easy as all plates on the train are a single price ($4.90) and if you want extras it's quick to order and relatively cheap too. There's a cool little robot that drops off your orders which is a cute gimmick. Grab a plum wine or a handle of Orion and it makes for a nice, casual, affordable meal out.
Tracy Foster
It's a fun idea, but the train was mostly empty while we were there. Our seats were the furthest from where they put the food on and the table before us took just about everything. You do have the option to order from the menu and it is mostly delivered by a robot, which the kids enjoyed. We liked just about everything we tried. The staff was very nice.
Jalesa
Awesome place to bring the kids. Seating is a bit limited so it pays to be early. So many options, there is probably something for everyone. When you order off the menu rather than the conveyer belt, you get the cute little robot delivery. There was a game too but I saw it on the way out so missed out.
Katie T
There was a bit of a wait to get seats, so id recommend booking. Once we were seated we saw the conveyer belt wasn't very well stocked, so had to flag down staff a couple of times to order from the menu which took away from the fun a little bit. Besides that, the food was super tasty and staff were nice
Shane Bohan
Great place has a small area for kids ! Fantastic mum and dad get to eat with minimal distractions
Fergus Rolston
Loved the place. We went here 3 times over the week in Auckland. Loved the robot delivery of items in the menu

Good decent sushi, run and made by authentic Japanese chefs. Good values at $3.50 per plates. Certain items such as grilled beef, crispy prawn nigiri need to order off the menu but still at $3.50 per plate... parking is a pain but worth the visit. Lots of seats but expect to wait during peak hours. We have been a regular customer to this plate and have noticed the size of Noodle have shrunk significantly over time.
Marielle Ibarra
Oh, Sushi Train. How delightful you are, but so dangerous for my wallet if I don't keep a close eye on the plates! We visited on a Thursday lunchtime and the place was not too busy. The set up looks clean and it feels nice to just sit and watch the sushi roll past and the chefs at work in the centre. The price per plate is now $3.90 which reflects the usual price of sushi in many places nowadays... I did enjoy my visit here today - the nigiri and other items were all very fresh and tasty. I think the portions per plate could be a little more generous perhaps. I would recommend ordering fresh if you can wait, as fun as the "train" is. It's a good time, but for those on a budget like me, there's a reason why you'd usually just go for the local sushi shop instead :)
Meghana Pitale
It was my first Sushi Train. It was amazing and felt like a kid picking up food from the conveyer belt. Fresh food. Attentive staff. You should visit for value for your money and to enjoy Sushi.
CARO CONSUMES
Quite a standard sushi train. You’ll find the usual favourites here and mostly a work crowd during the week.
LemonC
Really disappointed visit! This has been one of our favourite place to visit, however, this visit is super disappointing. Food service is slow, also they missed our order, after checked with them twice, still told us it’s coming.... food quality seems not as good as before. Over cooked lotus chips, tasteless teriyaki chicken rice for $11
Seamus M.
You wonder why it's always full because the sushi is $3.50, and totally worth it. I love having edamame on the side, there was plenty to go around till the end of our stay. All their sushi is fresh and delicious. There wasn't any salmon as they're trying to help reserve the shortage of salmon in NZ - which is very considerate of the business. The service is great too, staff are friendly and attentive. The best bit is they welcome in Japanese, which is culturally important to sushi.
Alana Polydorou
We went here for dinner recently and found that the fresh raw fish we had picked up off the train was warm, there was no air conditioning and I believe the food was out for too long... we ordered some fresh food and it was edible but not very nice. Chicken katsu was not actually made properly either. I felt sick after eating here and the price was not worth it at all
May Hung
$3.8 per plate, good quality sushi, but often you can’t find what you want on the train, so you have to place order directly to the chef and they will make it fresh for you. very reasonable price sushi in CBD. Recommend their grill salmon sushi
Renie
There are a wide range of sushis and other dishes such as udons. You can also order from the menu. Most of the times the market fish available is quite limited. Other than that, the food never disappoints! The staff are always friendly.
Niamh Mulholland
I love love love this place.

There is an impressive selection of sushi and snacks on rotation including some hot dishes and dessert items. Pretty much everything is $3.50, generally for 2 pieces, which makes this around $1.75 per item - only a little more than individual sushi’s at most takeaway restaurants however this is a different and exciting dine in experience.

Then menu items are great as well, if you cannot see your favourites on the conveyor or would like to try something new! They also have special seasonal items which I believe change monthly. I highly recommend the agedashi tofu dish if you’re curious, it is delicious.
Vincent Chen
Don’t want anyone to get the same experience as I do, poor customer service no one came up to approach/ service when standing in front of “wait here” sign, because there were no on at the front to serve some customer didn’t even know they need to queue, lack in organising seats, left straight away
Jennifer L
It was soso service not kind
ㅇㅇ
It's nice that all their plates are the same price - $3.50. Very good value for money, as there are some other sushi train restaurants which charge unbelievably expensive prices for a plate. My favourite sushi here are Grilled Chashu and Grilled Scallop!
MeeraTheFoodie
I absolutely love this sushi train! The best things by far are the grilled sushi! Such as the grilled salmon, grilled unagi (eel) and grilled scallop đŸ€€đŸ€€ I also recently tried the chicken karaage mini udon, and it was soooo yummy! I'm definitely coming back for the big sized version!
Yana Petrenko
Popped in here to grab a quite bite last week and didn't quite meet my expectations of this place. I've had quite a few friends tell me to come here but it wasn't really my cup of tea. This sushi train was quite crowded and didn't taste as good as the other ones I've been too. The service wasn't that good either.
Rochelle Holland
Great little sushi place in town that's really handy for sushi lovers that work in the area. Great staff and the food is delicious. I actually really like the little dessert dishes as well. Price depends on how much you eat, each plate costs $3.50 and theres some menu items that cost a bit more. Really good
Anna Chan
Great value for money with everything being $3.50. I love how there is a great variety of food. We recently tried another sushi train place and with it being triple the price it doesn't even compare!
S J
Visited on a weekday around 1pm. The way to the table looked not neet and untidy.
Less people eating so we were able to sit and eat in a quiet atmosphere.

Felt a little bit awkward to eat facing to the sushi making staff who was inside the counter table 😅

$3.50 sushi per plate is really appealing.
We enjoyed sushi especially shellfish ones.

One thing we didn't like was the cups of water provided. There were smudges all over the cups looking dirty. Didn't seem to be washed properly.

I’ve been going to Sushi Train for a year now and it has become our go-to kaizen-sushi or conveyor belt sushi in Auckland.
🍣 : The nigiri here screams of freshness. I have not had the ship sushi, so no comments there. But the nigiri and rolls have never disappointed me. The other non-sushi items are pretty good too and the ramen is unexciting. But, hey, it’s called “Sushi” train so my rating mainly represents that. My favorites would have to be the Basil Salmon, Eel, Sweet Prawn and the creamy Croquette.
đŸ’đŸ’â€â™‚ïž: You can either pick up your sushi from the conveyor belt or order it (or other items) through the staff. However, orders can take longer when the place is packed. Otherwise, the place is well staffed with competent people.
đŸ’”: Very, very affordable. Especially considering the quality we’re dealing with here. I believe the cheapest of its kind in the city?
đŸ’ș: Quite spacious with great views of Chancery. It’s especially nice to see the sushi chefs at work in the middle of the conveyor belt, really creates a fun atmosphere for the diners.
Overall: The good outweighs the bad by miles!

One of our all time favorite restaurant , great place to dine with little ones, very friendly service and food is tasty. Parking is easy as well, offers a wide range of Japanese drinks and sushi. Love it
Asianfoodie
A great place for lunch! Highly recommend the hamburger steak sushi and the beef wagyu one.

We did order udon which was a little delayed. Everything apart from that was pleasant. Staff are very friendly and attentive too 😁
Tony Shi
Good variety of sushi and for only $3.50! Tasted fresh and flavours were nice. Service was a bit slow on the night we went. Took around 10 mins for them to prepare the plates we ordered.
Pushkar Gupte
The food was ok. Nothing out of the ordinary. I have had better sushi in other places. I wish there was more variety of sushi. Also the fish did not seem to be as fresh as we would have liked.
Karina
Have been here a few times for lunch and have enjoyed it every-time. The concept of it is so fun with the sushi going round. The sushi is always fresh and tastes delish and has a good variety. Definitely check it out :))
Luz !
The concept is super nice and the staff is friendly. I find it overpriced and not so tasty, except for a few options. It is a nice idea to go for though. I even saw people reading their books and eating slowly, enjoying the experience. I came with kids and they had fun.
John He
A cute restaurant nestled in the crowded city. My favourite is the unagi sushi. Unfortunately we arrived quite late so there were no more salmon. Otherwise possibly 5/5 for the food. The staff were friendly and approachable.

INNOVATIVE. Morphing together ancient tradition with cultural innovation, sushi train brings an interactive dining experience that is enjoyable for families, friends, or even for a casual date if they've never seen this before! I’m going out on a limb here and exposing my second home (I eat here once or twice a week) - but I truly don’t want to you to miss out on this fun and delectable experience.

While I eat here regularly and have tried their entire menu, I guarantee their seafood is fresh as I've never gotten sick - except from overeating. And if you do it right, their dishes are actually really decent value for money. My favourites which I would highly recommend are their Grilled Salmon and Grilled Scallop. They also offer really good Ramen, Udon & Rice bowls if you feel as though sushi isn't enough for you.

Their staff is exceptionally friendly and very attentive. Located in Chancery Square & Viaduct.
Anastasia Matiatos
Sushi Train in chancery square damn where do I start, it's just amazing. I've been here 3 times and they've never failed to impress. The staff are so friendly and cute and always check in to see if you want to order more food or drinks, the sushi is so fresh and full of flavour. All of the plates cost $3.50 which is super cheap. Well worth trying 10/10 can't hype this place up enough x

3/5 Taste
3.5/5 Display
4/5 Quantity
2/5 Customer Service

Decent Sushi Train shop in Chancery.

I would have given higher score if there was more variety of sushi, or if the wait time was not as long.
They seemed understaffed and it made them difficult to have people seated.

I also felt sick after eating here.
đŸŒč
Tried this place out with a friend, and we both spent around $20 each barely satisfied with our experience.

The sushi they provide aren’t special, and there doesn’t seem to be a huge variety either.

We probably got full after the sushi started to digest after waiting 20 minutes for good sushi to come out.
Food2belly
The best sushi train in Auckland, can't compare to Japan's fresh seafood selection but Sushi Train does really good fried items; soft shell crab, prawns tempera, croquette and karage chicken. Also their seared salmon is a must try. All at a decent $3.50 a plate. I suggest going during lunchtime as they sell out a lot of the selections come dinnertime.
Mocha
Came here last year for dinner with friends. Sushi was okay, not the best. My favourite dish was the potato croquette and the mini udon. Some of the sushi seemed kinda old.
Jifferney Lu
Amazed meet someone in the class here for doing part time. Service is not bad. But the food is just normal, some avacado does not seem very fresh??
Ann Castillo
Conveyor sushi is always a fun dining experience! Quality is average but overall, it is still an enjoyable meal. They have a good range of options and servers are pretty attentive to take orders. Have tried almost all in the menu but my favourites are the nigiri and aburi items.
Michelle Li
Highly recommend this place if you love Japanese food especially Sushi Train. Most Sushi Trains are priced differently based on the type of food. But all plates here on the conveyer belt are priced at $3.50 per plate! Even all the seafood options.
Highly reccomend Grilled Salmon Aburi. The staff also take special orders, some of the dishes weren't looking particularly fresh so we asked if we could get it made and they said yes. If you're looking for other options they have Donburi and Udon available to order.
Rensen Ye
The service was good, very polite when you go in and after you leave. The food is alright, nothing that amazes me. The only thing i didnt like was the squid which had a weird texture and didnt really taste like anything (but thats just me) and raw scallop (very fishy smell and salty) but besides that the rest of the food isnt bad at all, and side note the udon was very good. You could expect to spend around $20-40 per person there depending on how hubgry you are.
LuNa The TuNa
Still the best sushi train in town. They always have special menu like steamed egg and ramen. All the sushi and sashimi are nice and fresh, 3.5 per plate. Moneies worth
Anons
Ive been coming to this restaurant for 3-4 years and it has never disappointed me ! Their fresh salmon nigiri and grilled prawn is the best. Very affordable as well (3.5 per plate). Me and my partner finish on average 20-30 plates as its so good :)
Steamed Hams
I've been coming here for the past couple of years and it's always been great, and today was no difference. Today I've had a variety of sushi and like always it was very fresh and tasted great. The service was quick and the place was very tidy.
J K
This is a place with very good value for money compared to other sushi trains in Auckland. Most dishes were $3.50 each. Some dishes like soft shell crabs, grilled prawns with cheese were really nice. Most dishes seemed fresh except some raw grey fish dish that was quite fishy tasting. Nice tasting cool water from the water dispensing machine. I had to wait around 15 minutes to get in so you know it is a busy place with quite a high turnover of sushi for most things. My family was pleased with the taste.

Sushi train for holiday lunch with Denny Setiawan.. feeling so good having salmon nigiri, grilled scallop, grilled pork, tantan tofu ramen and uni đŸ€€
Flora
Best place for sushi in town. All plates $3.50. The waiters are very friendly and efficient as well. Also, one of the few places in Auckland that has chawanmushi on their menu.
Dxlche
All plates is $3.50 which saves the thinking. There is a good range of sushi and a small range of $3.5 desserts too such as tiramisu and creme brûlée.
The service is good and the food comes fast when u order it.
Overall a really good experience here.
Donna
Hands down my favourite sushi train. Their staff are super attentive and their sushi is literally the best. All their plates are $3.50 so you don’t need to keep your eyes pealed for different coloured plates.
Grace
Every plate $3.50, which isn’t too bad. Everything was delicious and fresh. Serving size is quite small so you tend to eat a lot!! Atmosphere and ambience was good and service was polite. Although was not given any water. I recommend going at a time which isn’t busy.
Grace Huang
Cheapest sushi train experience in Auckland!

Service: 5/10
When we first entered the waitress just kept doing her work at the register and didn’t bother to welcome us. After waiting 5 minutes, they finally took our names and told us to wait for a free table. We had to wait another 15 minutes before we were finally seated.
There isn’t much actual food service since you choose your plates by the conveyer belt.
You can order off the menu and get the chef to make the dish for you.

Food: 6/10
There is a large variety of sushi to choose from.
My favourite would’ve been either the grilled salmon or the creamy croquette.
The salmon was so fresh and and soft, it basically melted away in my mouth.
The croquette was so creamy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
The portions are pretty small for the price even though it’s cheaper than other sushi trains, and the slices of fish are super thin.
One concern I had was that I saw some dishes had been spinning around on the belt for the whole duration of my meal so it might’ve not been fresh, and could’ve the reason for my stomach ache afterwards.

Ambiance: 6/10
The restaurant is quite loud and bustling at dinner time which resulted in it being quite noisy, I could barely have a proper conversation.
It’s a little cramped inside I felt like I was intruding on the meal of the people beside me.
It’s bright and lively inside, the bench area is brightly lit up and allows a convenient view of the dishes on the belt.

Great option for a quick meal with friends if you’re not afraid to go off budget. We weren’t that hungry and we still spent $61 between two people.
I would recommend you ask the chef to make your dishes to ensure freshness.
Jenny Da
Can’t go wrong with sushi train! If you’re super hungry, it’s food you can eat instantly with a variety of sushi flavours flying past you on a conveyor belt.

Sushi train chancery square is super popular and busy, so you can be almost guaranteed the food is fresh. If you don’t see what you want out, you can also order straight from the menu. My favourite sushi is the volcano roll, however over the years it doesn’t taste as good as it used to be...

Great value for money too at just $3.50 a plate!
Tom Wong
I love this place! the service is always fast and polite. The food is great and there is an abundance of options. They also can make anything off their menu, which is lovely because its fresh and you can watch the chefs make it from your table. My favourites are the creme brulee and the salmon aburi (grilled salmon sushi). Would highly recommend this place!
Its Me
Fun to choose what you want to eat ! Just hard to communicate with them as I think they always hire people that are new to new Zealand (maybe?) I been coming here often for a good period of time but all of them didn't really speak English.. but u can show them pictures which is handy. Some of my friends complain that they make their sushi too small but I actually like it smaller so I could try all diff types of sushi&other small menus they got
Mari Flores
Its probably one of the best sushi trains in Auckland. Its can get very busy but that completely depends on the time of day you go. They offer alot of different dishes as well as new specials which changes one or twice a month.

Its one of the best cheap eats in Auckland
Gavin Ng
Definitely worth your money and a great experience with the conveyor belt bringing you your food. However, each plate is small but this allows you to try the many options Sushi Train provides.
Thom
I'm a regular, I know the menu inside out, I come every a couple weeks. They do great sushi, I get excited by the train going round. I have before told them I felt that the quality is deteriorating but they still produce very good food.

Last week on April 26th, asked for a table for 4 at 6pm start. We were told we could have the table until 7 and we understood as someone else had made a booking for that time. We sat down and ate from the train, until we ran out of things appealing to us then started ordering. It's like textbook of eating in this restaurant.

At 6.20 we placed our orders. Maybe around 12 items. We then kept eating some more from the train as we were waiting. The first of the orders did not come out until 6.40. 5 plates came out, followed by this rather new waitress (who was nice, but super limited English) telling us we had to leave in 10 minutes. What the heck to that. We told her we can have the table til 7 and after 20 minutes we only get half our food so maybe they should push it out first. She probably did not understand what we were saying and said she needed to clean the table so maybe we were allowed 15 minutes.

We tried to explain again the situation that they were not doing a great job not delivering food but telling people to leave. She then discussed it with another waitress.

Just before 6.50 the rest of our food came out and we just finished it before 7 and left. Eating in that rush itself would not have been fun but being told we had to leave in 10 minutes when we had virtually not even had what we came for, that was a big mistake.

I will likely still come back as a regular but, here's the review I promised.
Mei Taing
First time that I went, everything was fine but the second time that I went they were not friendly, service was very poor and we were not allowed to split the bill. Food was okay but I am definitely not going back there again!
Roger DD
Not easy to find the restaurant as it's quite hidden. Took my niece and nephew for dinner on a Monday night, there's a few customer but not busy. Service wise was okay, not that friendly as expected. Also find that the dishes goes around are the same the time we will there.
Masterwayne12
Food is very average, wouldn’t expect high quality traditional sushi however great price, can’t beat the price! Would dine few times a year. 3.5/5
Sally S
Decently priced with excellent service and friendly staff. The perfect places to try many different kinds of sushi. Everything is fresh and you can watch the staff making the sushi right there in the middle of the restaurant. Enjoyed the overall experience, definitely recommend this place!
Benz Chan
Affordable prices. Delicious dishes. Friendly staff. Excellent location. There's nothing more I could have asked for when I had lunch at Chancery square branch today.

My favourites were the spicy ebi sushi with fried leek, marinated tuna and vegie croquettes.

Oyster sushi was a bit chewy. Otherwise, the entire experience was great.
Tan.ned
One of the best sushi trains I've been to! I highly recommend this. Really good place to eat and try many kinds of sushi. It's a pretty decent price too
Jason Zhang
This is a go-to restaurant for my friends and I if we want to hangout and chill. The food here is delicious and you can get it freshly made by asking the chef. Rather than the waitresses being attentive, the chefs are the attentive ones as they would make conversations with you while making your food. Each plate is $3.50 (except for the special menu) with small but decent portions, so it may be a bad idea if you come here starving. I come here with friends during uni to kill time and catch up, not when we're starving. Favourite dish is the 'Volcano'. The restaurant is clean and convenient, and the staffs are very friendly.

Taste - 7/10
Size - 6/10
Service - 7/10
Price - 7/10
Lia Yosaatmadja
I am a big fan of sushi train! And i like the fact that everything is $3.50. The fish are fresh and they have great flavours. I also love the options for mini udons. Which was delicious by the way!
The service are super friendly and the guy at the counter calls you hime sama (princess) i love it! 😊
Lucy Yang
There isn't much sushi available compared with what they shown on the menu, the sushi kept repeating and it take a long time for them to add a new one, has to order from the waiter, but taste alright. They cannot separate the payment which is really annoying because we went as a group, we thought they cannot count the plates separately so paying equally would be fine, but they said we must pay in one, glad one of my mates have enough money to pay for all but it is really disappointing they cannot divide in 5, will never come back again with my mates unless they make the payment more convenience for groups, and the waiter at that day was not nice saying "I told you already we cannot make separate payments" while we asked him could we please pay it separately.
Kiwi Eats Asia
Visited today for their $2.50 for all plates day which was in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Awesome to get the chance to check it out for this price as it is very expensive normally (compared to Japan, which I guess I shouldn't since seafood here is stupidly expensive). I arrived at about 12.45 and probably waited about 40 minutes in line. We were seated off to the side, not on the train part itself, but it didn't really matter as there was no sushi on the train, just the fried things that had been prepared earlier and the little salads, edamame and puddings. They were in no way prepared to the demand (which was a little odd since surely all tables have been full before?). All the nigiri options (raw fish on little rice ball sushi) took upward of 40 min to arrive which was a VERY long wait when you think about how long these take to prepare for a trained sushi chef. It was very stressful for the wait staff and I felt bad for how stretched they were.

The sushi was very yummy with great options that you rarely see in Auckland - much more seafood. We ordered a bunch of plates and of these I highly recommend the unagi nigiri (eel - so delicious), grilled scallop (rice was a bit grilled and this made it taste amazing), tamago nigiri (huge piece of egg and very fresh) and sanma nigiri (though it could have done with lemon and daikon). Renkon chips and karaage were also really nice. Slightly disappointing dishes included spicy crayfish salad nigiri (tasted like partly frozen surimi - not the best), corn salad ship (very tiny portion pretty wtf for that price??). Honourable mentions include chashu pork nigiri (huge amount of meat on top) and Cajun karaage which was nice but quite spicy, and was "cajun" due to spice mix poured on after frying. Worth a visit, maybe, but I suggest you go when it's cheap as it's only just worth it then for portion size. If you're price conscious this isn't really the sushi place for you. Who knows, maybe they'll make it cheap again some time.
Yuqi
Waiting 1.5hours in line to get in. Waiting another 1 hour to get our order. Not a single sushi on the "train", what is the point to call this restaurant "sushi train"????if you have to order your sushi ?
I'm A Foodie
Today is Sushi train 25th anniversary. All sushi is $2.5 per plate. They open at 11.30am, but there was already a long queue when we arrived before 11.30. We waited about 30mins to be seated.
I think the sushi is fresh and the service is perfect.
Angela Hollings
The karaage, chicken teriyaki roll and creamy croquettes from here were really delicious! My friend and I came in quite early at around 5 so some of the hot foods on the conveyor (e.g. vegetable croquettes) were already cold, but still tasted good. I would recommend ordering hot food from the waiter rather than taking from the train. A really good place to have a nice varied meal with plenty of time to chat with friends or a date :)
Emma
Sushi train is a nice location for a unique experience. My friend and I have had very little experience with sushi trains so coming here was a fun and novel experience. Sushi is fairly well priced with $3.50 a plate although can add up very quickly if you don't keep track. The Tiger roll was amazing as it was freshly cooked. Karaage chicken was also very tasty and it was hard to stop ourselves from taking a second plate. Some of the hot items were cold by the time we picked them but nonetheless they were still good. Not a huge selection going around the conveyor belt but you can order anything on the menu at any time so it wasnt really a problem.
Jenil Bhakta
Good experience, friendly staff recommended. The sushi train is excellent. Must try their volcano dish which is made with four sushi rolls and is delicious. Worth it.
S2Psycho
First time experience was wonderful!!! everything looked amazing! second time i went there and i realized the magic was not there like the first time. it was just sushi! but! Good sushi!! $3.50 for every plate, So i wonly ate expensive ones. Alot of flavour in most dishes. Services is just normal nothing major or minor. Just a nice casual Sushi train experience! some what cool and fun at first!

Sushi all $3.50 a plate - some days the sushi is great and some, butchered. Depends on the chef working, and we've noticed an improvement but if you don't mind paying a little more, Sushi Train Viaduct is consistently good.

The add value with the Chancery location is besides everything at $3.50, the venue is also BYO, which is nice to be able to enjoy a wine or beer you want to drink that they may not stock!

Frequently dine at this amazing sushi place. Amazing food and very friendly staff. The specials they have from time to time are also very tasty.

This place is literally heaven for sushi lovers like me. My friends and I have huge appetites (we ordered 30 plates of sushi and also four bowls of ramen- one each) and we found this place perfect for us as there were so many choices available and everything was high quality and fresh. The fish was so delicious and melted in your mouth and all the other dishes were great too. We ended up spending $140 ish here but it was worth it as we tried most of the items on the menu lol. Lauren found the spicy ramen spicy lol.

Always thought this place is expensive and meh but my judgment is wrong. That's why you should never judge a place by its appearance. Lol

One of my favourite sushi place to go. Favourite dish would be the creamy croquette . It's SSOOOOOO GOOD. I can literally eat a few plates of those. Highly recommend. Also their udon are delicious. I normally have the mini udon so I could grab heaps of sushi on the sushi train. Technically, if you love Japanese food , grab everything you can see and eat

Really appreciate their customer service too, well attentive and responsive đŸ‘đŸ»

The staff were quick to seat us however become non-existent after this, the chefs who were in front of us making sushi seemed oblivious to us wanting to order things from the menu. We came around 5.30pm on a Sunday and the variety was very limited. There were flies everywhere making the experience uncomfortable. Sushi didnt seem fresh unless made to order. $3.50 a plate seems overpriced but it was an interesting experience to tick off the list.

If anything the grilled scallop and squid legs are a must try!
Lizzylucyxox
It was ok the staff was really friendly but the sushi wasn’t really fresh. $3.50 a plate quite decent but a little over priced. The salmon nigiri was so good and fresh as they were cutting the fish right in front of us and serving it.

I'm usually here in the late evening, it's usually fairly quiet then. The food is good and the price is great you don't have worry about sorting plates to calculate price. You can request plates that aren't on the train and they also have an a la carte menu. Service is good and it is clean and tidy.

Good selection of sushi and sashimi. Good bang for your buck. The also served Waygu beef a little disappointed as it was not as good as the ones in Japan.
Bambang P Buditomo
At first i was a bit sceptical, $3.5 a plate? How will it taste? Although it's on the expensive side, they proved to me that I was worried for nothing. They have a very good sushi and whole lot of selection and exotic ones such as oyster and lobster or crawfish. This place has a correct amount of rice vinegar and density. A feat that cannot be replicated by sushi machine such as the big chain we all know. The price value was okay. Protip: go for the exotic topping. They are very generous with the topping. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very attentive. Definately will be a regular there.

Great place to have sushi, lots of selections and staff are friendly. $3.50 per plate is not too bad. I love the how you can order whatever you want on the menu. Grilled scallops sushi is my favorite.
Jihye Kang
Decent diversity of sushi. They have rarer dishes such as clam sushi and raw prawn, which I really missed.
For 3.50 per a plate of sushi it does feel a little overpriced, but you pay for the experience.
I really wasn't happy with the service here. I watched an old lady next to our seats calling the waitress for over 5 times before she got attended. We were seated in a table that still had dishes of the previous person, and it took 20 minutes before the waitress cleared our tables - Then she almost mixed the plates up.When we ordered from menu, the dishes took over 15 minutes come out. This was in the peak hour but I wondered if the restaurant could do with an extra hand in the kitchen.

Brought my boyfriend here a couple Fridays ago. It was our first time at Sushi Train and we had so much fun.

We arrived early on a Friday and the place still had many seats. It would have been nice if the staff explained how it works as we didn't know if we were supposed to just grab the plates and start eating. All plates are $3.50. If what you want doesn't appear on the train you can just order it and it will be delivered to you. There is a lot of variety to choose from and sushi is very fresh. We enjoyed trying everything. I would highly recommend the Tiger Roll, grilled Scallops, & volcano roll.

Wouldn't recommend going in with an empty stomach as it may get very expensive. Between two of us we had 14 plates. Had a lot of fun and would do again!
Sid
Awesome place to go for a conveyer belt sushi. It Is a little bit overpriced for sushi, mostly paying for the experience rather than the food. The staff are friendly and the food is good. The tables are clean and tidy. Would fully recommend if you are going for the experience.
Rachel Hui
This is our go to sushi place. Hands down the best sushi in town. Great variety, the chefs are professional.

Our favourites are the grilled sushi - salmon, scallops, prawns... I also recommend the Peppery rolls if you enjoy a bit of a heat! Delicious.

The fried chicken pieces and the soft shell crab are worth trying too, something a little different from just sushi.

All plates are $3.5 and I personally think that it is worth it.

Until next time!

Best place to go if u r a fan of buffet sushi.
Get what ever u want here with appropriate portion and so many varieties with good taste and best price .
Friend and I had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We'd never been but I walked past it sometimes whenever I was in town so was always curious.
When we arrived just after 1pm there was actually a waiting line- you had to write your name down and they would take you to the next empty seats. It was busy but not crowded, I guess they wanted to keep it so you weren't squashed next to a stranger.
We finally got brought to our seats at 1.30, and started eating. All their plates were $3.50 each, which was great. The food was delicious and fresh with a decent range- my favourite was the SAO rolls which consisted of raw salmon and avo rolled into a mini sushi roll topped with finely shaved onions and mayo. I also tried a raw squid sushi which was interesting, and their creamy croquettes were also well seasoned and left me wanting more.
Between us we got 8 plates each- definitely would've eaten more or gotten some as take- out if I weren't going out for dinner that night.
The only reason I've given them 4.5 instead of 5 was because it was a wee bit pricey for lunch at $28, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back again or recommend to others.
The only other sushi trains I had tried previously were Sushi Factory which was alright if you had a voucher, and Daruma in Botany which was nice but even more pricey. I think Sushi Train in Chancery is the best.
EatR
The service at there was totally terrible. My friend and I we was waiting around 40 minutes at there because the waiters sent our plates to other tables. Finally when we wanted to leave, the plates just "threw" in front of us and didn't say anything :s how did they know if they sent to the right table or not? when we checked out, we found that they charged us 15% of ours bill because it was public holiday. High price but not comfortable environment.
Bambi
Took my sister here for a surprise lunch and she absolutely loved it!! Great variety and good price for what we got. About $35 for the both of us including drinks. I think we ended up eating 7-8 dishes
Ezzz
Only reason didn't give 5 is because WE SPENT TOO MUCH!!! Went with 1 hungry friend and we ate just over 20 plates which cost approx $75 in total (I think). The sushi is very nice and tasted fresh. Good variety too and love how they provide hot food if you don't wanna splurge all of ur $$ on sushi. Definitely recommend and will come back though. Love the atmosphere and friendly staff.
Mercan Kazankiran
My favourite place to have sushi. They make amazing sushi. Very friendly people. Just can't stop ordering more and more. I highly recommended to everyone.
Kathy Xu
Had a great dinner here! There is a lot of variety and all plates are $3.50. We ordered some dishes off the menu and they came out really quickly :) Would definitely come back!
Tony Ma
This only hit 4 because it's the cheapest sushi train in auckland!

Great food, but sashimi portions are way too small... they are even smaller now...

In japan these plates are only $1-$2 each! But city rent is higher so hey, what can you do. Just go eat it!

If you're going with a budget, don't go. Only go if you are ready to blow $$50-$100pp! Treat it like a buffet and you will have a great time!

Environment: 4.5/5
Food Quality: 4.5/5
Food Quantity: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Price: $50pp

Gus
The sushi is nice and fresh here, there are the classics which you can be made to order and there are lots of interesting flavour combinations as well. I liked the flame grilled fish and prawns with various sauces and the salmon sushi with fish eggs was also excellent. They also serve hot food off the menu if you want to eat more than just sushi. Highly recommended
M
Good food and great service. Staff are friendly and accommodating. There are plenty of options to choose from and you can ask them to prepare one if not available.

Best sushi train in Auckland. Staff are nice and friendly. Its located at the heart of Auckland with other restaurants if you fancy something else afterwards.
Kaylene Jessin
The main reason why I still come here is because they sell tobiko with cheese :D. No one else in Auckland (that I know of) makes this type of sushi. Their food is always fresh and I saw Dan Carter in there once, so it means that their food is definitely good.
S
Fantastic sushi place. We were served and helped by the staff. They were friendly and all with smiles. I will go back to this place again whenever i crave for sushi. If you go to this place you have to try the octopus sushi and their udon. đŸ‘ŒđŸ»đŸ‘ŒđŸ»

This place has got the be one of the best sushi places in the city. Not only is the sushi fresh, it is very good value. You can either take sushi off the belt or order it to be made right before your eyes! My personal favourite is the grilled mayo corn, I have to get at least two plates every time I go as it is absolutely delicious. Honourable mentions include the peppery role, the takowasa and grilled scallop. Also try their sushi cola if you like fizzy drinks.
Jay
This is my favourite sushi train restaurant 💘
One of the sushi chef is really really friendly and he serves customers promptly! He remembers regular customers tastes and always tries his best to serve us in a good manner. This place has recently been more and more crowded so there sometimes are not many sushi plates on the conveyor belt but you can order your sushi directly to the chef or the waitstaff and they will bring the wholesome to your table.

$3.50 flat price for every plate is really affordable and their sushi is quite nice too! I recommend their mini sized ramen bowls as a great complement with their sushi.

However I think they seriously need more waitstaff. It seems like there are only one or two waitstaff to serve the customers during really busy rush. Other than that it's a great place to satisfy your sushi craving!
William Tozer
This is by far the best sushi train restaurant in Auckland. The service is absolutely stunning and the food is incredible. Not badly priced at all either. The one chef that was working when I went there was an absolute champ. Will go back just for his yarns and service. 10/10 would recommend!

I wanted to come here to see if there was any difference/improvements compared to the Sushi Train at the Viaduct. Greeted by a friendly waitress, we were seated down. Yes, all plates are $3.50 each! However, I don't see anything special with this Sushi Train. I was looking forward to eating salmon, but the salmon did not look fresh at all. The plates have probably been left there for the whole day. The avocado in the sushi rolls were almost of a dark brown colour. There wasn't that many plates to choose from. The best way to get fresh plates of sushi, is to simply ask the waitress and order. It's a good dining experience if you want to try out a sushi train outlet. I think it's much better to get your usual sushi takeaway.
Tavita Milford
This is by far the best sushi eatery I've ever been to. It was my first time here today and the service was spectacular. Not to mention the non-stop conveyer with the most delicious food and also at a fair reasonable price. I am definitely coming back for more.
Michelle Hwang
Lots of friends recommended this place to me before. I had 8 plates for $3.50 each, so paid $ 28.00 in total. Price was not cheap but reasonable. Instead of picking the ready plates, I ordered some fresh plates from their menu. Tasty and nice service.
Maria Polishchuk
My all times favourite. Have been here many many times and will continue coming back. Tried most of their dishes and all are very yummy. Fantastic food, reasonable price (all plates for $3.5) and friendly and attentive staff 👍
Karina O'Connor
My favourite sushi place in Auckland. Cheap and cheerful. All made fresh in front of you. This place is a sushi train so you can pick what you want or there are some things you can order on the menu. Most plates are $3.50 each.
Jamez Hill III
Came here for dinner sunday. The premises is clean, staff are very friendly and helpful. The plates are 3.50 for two pieces which is a very good price. Serving size is fair and frequent options pass you by. The cooked sushi was cold and not quite as enjoyable as it could have been. The fish cuts were ok for the raw sushi, however no tuna, no tempura and not a frequently stocked selection of regular favourites. I felt i was sitting there for ages before options i prefer came along. For seven plates under $30 this place is very cheap. I wish the quality can be better next time however and then there would be a real winner.

Got way too excited about sushi train to remember to take pictures of the actual food!
I'll have to add those next time (aka, I will be going back).

I've tried a few sushi trains in Auckland and most of them have been pretty disappointing (those reviews are coming later) but this one was a winner! Finally!

Located in the Chancery area, this place is tucked around the corner so you'd miss it if you didn't know it was there.

The premise is very clean and tidy, and the staff are very friendly.
We were greeted by all staff upon our arrival and the chefs behind the train were friendly and happy to have a chat about any of the dishes if you needed guidance.

They had one of the best selections of hot options that I've seen at a sushi train in a while!
With interesting flavours like garlic and chilli grilled prawn and crab, wasabi and octopus raw balls and Japanese curry balls, as well as the classic favourites of chicken avocado nigiri, dragon roll, salmon sushi and deep fried chicken mmmm.

The food was great!
The flavours were simple, and everything tasted fresh and delicious.
On top of that, at 3.50 a plate it's very affordable!!

The only downfalls were that the hot food had cooled substantially and was a little soft, and that there were not as many raw options as I would have liked.
Of course this may be due to seasonality and availability so I will be back to try the menu again :)

Honestly, I could come here everyday for a snack or a full on meal and I'd be satisfied.
đŸ–đŸ›đŸŁđŸ€đŸ„đŸ™

Highly recommend you try this sushi train if you have a craving.

This is the place to come if you're wanting more than just the regular teriyaki chicken type of sushi. Also if you're a seafood lover! Sushi train has dishes that vary in different prices according to the plate colour. Other than the sushi that rotate around on the conveyer belt, you can also request the chef to make them freshly for you, however the only downside to this place is the price, your total bill can add up to be quite expensive if you're someone with a big appetite.
Sabrina Chae
This used to be my favourite place for sushi. However, I can see the quality is starting to decline. I ordered a donburi and my family ordered one udon each. My donburi is no where to be seen even near end of our meal. I have asked the waitress about it but all I get is that it's coming soon.
Ben Ch
Previously called Sushi Room, Sushi Train has now simplified the whole dining process by pricing the majority of their plates at $3.50 each. Fantastic for people who love seafood as there are a large number of these dishes at the standard price point.

The best part is having the ability to order anything off the menu that you are not able to find on the conveyor belt, ensuring a fresh plate of whatever you desire :)

Highlights are the salmon egg ship rolls wrapped in raw salmon sashimi and the spider rolls (soft shelled crab in sushi).
Ronald Lam
Its a nice place. The sushi are really tasty and the chicken udon tasted great.

$3.50 for any plate is good value.
Favorite sushi place to eat.

I ordered a few food from the menu and it came out quickly.
Jamie Chiang
Sushi trains make for a super fun dining experience - especially for those not feeling comfortable enough to directly order from the chef. The plates of sushi, karaage, and dessert (cheesecake, creme brulee, jelly, tiramisu...) move along a conveyor belt, allowing you to pick and choose whatever you feel like. That does, however, present an issue on freshness. You're never really sure whether the plate of sushi has been there for 5 seconds or 5 minutes (though, hint: you can somewhat tell by the fogginess and the condensation on the dome covering the plate)
Therefore, you can pick up the menu and order directly from the waitresses walking around - that also opens you up to options not available on the conveyor belt, such as both big and small bowls of udon, donburi, fresh karaage/takoyaki/kakiage and whatnot.
The plates are all $3.50, though the amount of sushi on the plate will vary based on the price of the ingredients itself (one eel nigiri on the plate vs 6 tiny salmon rolls on a plate)
I highly recommend the tiger roll, "grilled" (blow-torched, actually) scallop and salmon, and small bowls of udon. It's a great place to go to with small-sized families, or even just with a few friends. Do try to sit along the conveyor belt instead of at the tables - makes grabbing the plates a lot easier.

The novelty of Sushi Train is light-hearted and entertaining. The food? Surprisingly decent--most sushi places I find are lacking in freshness and filling.

It was awesome that the sushi we ordered was made in front of us but I must say they did go overboard with the sauce. They do have an excellent selection.

Showstopper: Volcanic Sushi, an interesting mix of flavours which I love.

Overall Grade: B

I only discovered this awesome little sushi joint a few days ago, and I'll happily admit that I've been back there every day since! Okay, so that's only been three days, but still!

Absolutely love the pork gyoza - soft and supple with pork that doesn't taste like it's come straight out of the freezer.

Another fave is the chicken and avo w/ mayo and little rice crunchies on top. Actually, pretty much anything with the crunchy little bits of popped rice on top - so morish!
A
The food on the train was average but really enjoyed the vegetable gyoza which was made especially in the kitchen. The staff were really friendly. I don't think I would come back as there's much better Japanese places close by.

As a regular@ our local sushi train outlet here In botany,we finally had a similar type of store to compare with here in the city..with this outlet all plates of sushi where priced@$3.50 which was a positive concept..as some of the colour plates@our local. I found a bit over priced,as for variety of products very similar,,a positive here was you could see the staff here making the products in front of you, also a plus here the attentative service..shall be back here when we in this neck of the woods....
We really enjoyed the variety, and especially combined with the (unexpectedly) excellent Orion draft.

Definitely recommended to sate that late afternoon sushi craving.

Sushi train is good for lunch when you want a variety of choice. They dishes are made fresh on site, which is always a bonus. While not being the most authentic Japanese food, they provide a wide range of selections which cater for all. Their croquettes are some of the best in Auckland. Definitely worth a visit!

Fun place to eat! My partner and I ate here last night. We enjoyed the idea of the sushi train and the service was great. At first I wasn't very sure if I wanted to grab anything off the train knowing in the back of my mind that I wasn't sure how long it would've out in room temperature (especially the fish). Alternatively they allow you to order in which they will make it fresh and bring it to your table. Every plate is worth $3.50 and they count the plates after. It was an interesting place and the food was good. My favorite was the roast pork sushi (picture). We would definitely return.

Great food and delights for days! It's almost like walking into a museum ! So many wonderful variations of sushi and Japanese food all in one place! Divine #g1

The service is great. The food is also great! I love the ebi fried, its crunchiness is just on point. Their cheesecake is also worth trying. My friend ordered the creme brûlée and she said she loves it. Nice place in a chilly afternoon.
Nikki
All time favourite, nice, easy and quick. I prefer to oder directly from the chief rather than picking up from the rail coz u dont know how long it has been going around. Aburi salmon is the best of all!!! Only reason for less points are because i dont think they use fresh sashimi's compared to the viaduct sushi train one.
Ed
Reasonably priced Japanese cuisine with great customer service.

Staff are attentive when needed and the dishes churn out quickly on the sushi train.
What can I say? I find Japanese cuisine very delicious and I wouldn't hesitate to bring someone here for an affordable dinner.

Food: 8/10
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Value: 4/5
Overall: 19/25

A little over rated but a great experience. Staff were extremely good and the sushi we ordered off the menu came fast! Lots of different varieties of sushi including deserts. Extremely fulling as you don't realise how much you're actually eating!!! Personally it's somewhere I wouldn't go often. The water we got given was warm aswell so that wasn't pleasant. Sushi is good priced compared to some other sushi trains!

A place where the rice is fresh and not overlooked. Not normally a fan of the sushi train concept but this is the best I have come across in Auckland. Nice service and the tiger roll is recommended. It is a slow process to settle the bill though.
Brave Eat
Great sushi for a much cheaper price than any other sushi trains. Unfortunately, I reserved for a table and they put me on counter seats, which was very disappointing when I clearly stated that I wanted the table for four people twice on the phone. The sushi tasted good tho, but it takes some time to make if you order them. I recommend this place for sushi lovers. The service was great but need to work on getting what the customers wants.
Meg McGimpsey
Not a bad place for sushi. Very reasonable prices and good variety. Staff aren't very friendly though - my friend and I were asked to move chairs for no apparent reason even though the place was virtually empty. Also probably not the best place to go if you're really hungry but good for a quick snack at a good price when you're looking for something that isn't fast food.
Ronald Tan
Price is reasonable. Food is fantastic. A place that I will come back again. Kids friendly and love the tiger roll. Most of the other sushi is well above average. Would strongly recommend this place for any sushi lovers.
Trin
This place is nice but not recommended if you're really hungry. Took my friend here and he spent over $30 on sushi.

I think this place is definitely worth coming at least once for the experience.

Staff are attentive and friendly. I like how you can request what sushi you want if they don't already have it out.
Queena
Second time here. I've noticed they've changed from 'per plate - $3.50, $4.00 etc' to all plates $3.50 which is very good! And they have a better variety of sushi served on the conveyor belt than the other place.

Customer service is good. Although would be good if they had more than one waitress serving everyone.

Some bad things, the scampi was frozen and defrosted in water as soon as it was ordered. So the head still had ice in it. Green tea ice cream was quite bland. Barely any green tea taste. It has definitely been diluted. It tastes more milky/creamy than green tea. Not the 'original' green tea I've had at other Japanese restaurants.

Otherwise, the rest of the sushi we had were great! The volcano roll was nice. Love how they have a mini udon option too! Would come back for sure.
Denise D'Sa
Went here on a weekday for lunch so it wasn't too busy, we managed to get a seat right by the chef so we got to watch all the sushi being made fresh.

The sushi was delicious and there was a huge range to choose from, you could even order dishes specifically if they didn't come by on the train. My favourites included the chicken and avocado with the rice bubbles and the volcano (blowtorched surimi) however I really enjoyed everything we sampled!

Every plate is priced at $3.50 so this place is amazing value for money and you don't have to worry about which colour plate you are choosing, like you would at most sushi trains.

Service was friendly and fast, and I am already planning my next visit!

A phenomenal place for top-notch Japanese cuisine. It is great to see the train in action. The sushi is really cool too. Will keep going in future.
Janet Wu
For the price you pay for, must say it's very good $3.50 a plate. But then the seaweed was a bit soggy.
The sashimi and seafood was fresh and I like this outlet better than the viaduct one.
Genie @ BunnyEatsDesign
My friend and I grabbed a quick dinner at Sushi Train on Wednesday night. It was pretty early, around 5.30pm and the restaurant was almost empty. The space is light and airy and feels clean and new. Quite different from some of the more cozy Japanese places around with lots of dark wood and red/black decor. For this reason, Sushi Train feels like more of a casual eatery rather than a traditional Japanese restaurant. Though it could be due to the time of day and the weather, I felt the restaurant lacked a bit of ambience.

We were seated right in front of the chef and this turned out to be the best seat in the house. Not only did we get to watch him make sushi but we could pick up dishes the moment he set them on the sushi train. Super fresh!

I ordered a large Asahi, my friend ordered a glass of wine. In hindsight, I would have been fine with a small Asahi.

The pricing here is fantastic. $3.50 per plate no matter what you get. This meant we paid no attention to the colour of the plates, instead we concentrated on what was on the plates. Some plates have 2 pieces of nigiri, others 6 pieces of maki sushi and everything in between.

We were both starving so we got right into it. This place is the epitome of fast food. Just grab dishes as they whizz past your table and stack them up neatly so that your server can count them up at the end.

We had:
Salmon nigiri - great
Maguro nigiri (raw tuna) - good
Shimesaba nigiri (pickled mackeral) - quite unusual but delicious
Tsubagai nigiri (baby clam) - had a springy crispness and very sweet
Tataki nigiri (beef) - raw marinated beef, yummy
Ebi nigiri (prawn)
Tuna salad roll - standard, creamy and mild
Takowasa Ship (raw octopus with wasabi) - super!
Salmon avocado roll - good
Creamy croquette - hint of fish?
Okonomiyaki (seafood pancake) - cold be yummy
Dragon roll with unagi (eel) - tasty
Ebi fry roll (prawn) - came with rice bubbles?

I was really happy with the flavours and quality of the sushi. Everything tasted great and had that sweet taste of very fresh seafood. Sushi Train is a wonderful way to try a range of dishes, adventurous eaters will love this.

My favourites were the salmon and the takowasa (raw octopus with wasabi). If you’ve never tried raw octopus before and are curious, this is a good place to try it. The octopus was very sweet and fresh. Of course, raw octopus isn’t for everyone but we loved this.

They also have a hot menu you can order from with half size bowls which are great if you want to have something hot for dinner as well as the sushi train. We didn’t need these bowls though as we filled up very quickly on the sushi train.

I was quite surprised that we finished 14 plates between us, though our server assured us it was a normal amount. Our server was friendly and helpful, though the chef didn’t speak any English. We didn’t really mind this, as long as the sushi was good. This place is a novelty and you pay a little more for the pleasure. We paid $66 all up which included 14 plates, a large Asahi and a glass of wine. We left feeling absolutely stuffed.

Can’t wait to go back.
Gianina Castro
The experience was nice but I don't think I'll be back. It's probably good to go at least once just so you're able to experience a sushi train but it's probably not worth it if you're looking for a place that will fill you up without being too expensive. They do have set meals available, but you're there for the sushi train, you can always have set meals at other places that may serve it better.
Cararmel Queen
$3.50 for every plate was such a good price compared to other sushi trains! Walked out of a different sushi train when I saw whimpy little plates for $6! All the plates on the train here were good sized and yum! The staff were so friendly and kind :-) Cool looking place too!
Aniva Huang
I have come here at least once a fortnight since they have changed management.

Since they made every plate $3.50 it's made my sushi train experience more about the food than wondering which coloured plate is which price.

My boyfriend loves takowasabi. They offer takowasabi sushi but not individually. We asked the waitress if we could just order the takowasabi and after she spoke to the chef she gave us a bowl of it.

It's a really lovely place.
Jamie
I love the casual atmosphere in this place. It's a nice modern setting and turning up on a Saturday night wearing shorts and jandals (dressed for comfort) wasn't an issue. I enjoyed the food and variety. Although I did notice there seemed to be fewer dishes with raw fish or crab meat than I expected. That said, there was a sign inviting me to order what I wanted if I didn't see it on the train, so next time I will take them up on that offer :-). Service was exceptional. They greeted me and made sure I had a seat quickly. Throughout the meal, any drinks or condiments I asked for pretty much turned up within a minute or so. Fantastic service.

Great way to eat I say. Lovely dishes, lots of variety although some of the dishes did look like they had been on the train for hours. Friendly staff and clean environment.

Nice place - hard to find though. Maybe have a bigger brighter sign outside so its more visable. Loved the place and the food. Also having more hot food on the train would definitely be more beneficial.
I love the sushi train and the way the dishes are served. The Place is really nice and their chef's are friendly and welcoming. They have lot's of different types of Japanese snacks and sushi. Depending on how much you want to eat they can be quite expensive thought, but nonetheless did I love it.

Absolutely loved it! The price was just right for the portions at $3.50/plate with a cute and cosy set up. The staff were all very friendly also. Enjoyed my time there. :)

The staff here were so friendly and welcoming! I have never been to a Japanese restaurant with a built in sushi train. I have always wanted to experience eating at a restaurant with a sushi train just to see how the food is presented, how the food is served, and what choices are available. I had a few plates with my friend and I have to say the food is exceptional! I love the presentation of the food and the cute conveyer belt which shows the items you can order. Each plate is $3.50 which I think is really good as normal sushi places sell their sushi for more than $5. I love the flavours in each sushi that we ordered. They were filled with great flavours. I loved the hospitality of the lady waitress asking if we want to order anything on the conveyer belt which hasn't been cooked yet. The service was fast and efficient as our food came out in a few minutes. There wasn't much variety when we first came as they recently just opened. There was different textures I experienced, crunchy, smooth, tasty, flavorful, each plate was super delicious. My favourite was the salmon and cream cheese sushi. It was so good! The flavours complemented each other so well. I would definitely come back for a group/family lunch.

Everything is 5/5 I just suggest that possibly make the restaurant more colorful and add more choices. The price is pretty great and the experience + service + interior + experience is also really well done.

First time visit. We arrived at the restaurant when it was first open for the day so there wasn't many people. The chefs welcomed us when we first came in. The restaurant has excellent service and a lovely modern environment. There is a good choice of sushi on the menu. The food has nice aesthetics and fresh quality. However we were wary of the high cost for each plate and kept that in the back of our minds as we chose our meal. Hospitable staff accommodated well to customers. Their service was quick and efficient. I recommend to come here with families and friends to enjoy a nice small meal
with family and friends. Would love to come here again.

I definitely like the variety of food offered in Sushi Train and the whole concept of dishes moving around the table is undoubtedly cool and entertaining .however I found prices a bit unreasonable .me and my partner got 5-6 small plates and were charged about $35 in total -which I found a bit too much.

My city-based friend and I initially saw this restaurant on the same day we went to Mecca Chancery for Sunday lunch. And there we saw for the first time a place for conveyor belt sushi. Out of curiosity, we went inside and asked for the menu list that we can take home and have a look. By then we both promised that next time we hang out together, this would be the next place.

So we met up inside the restaurant for dinner. When I sat down and had a look at the menu again, I decided to order other types of sushi not usually offered or sold in most sushi places, and each plate as of this writing costs $3.50. I tried Spider Roll (Soft Shell Crab), Spring Rolls, Dragon Roll, Grilled Scallops, Kakiage Nigiri (Vegetables). My friend had Salmon Sashimi, which was of the brightest orange color I've ever seen, and you can tell that it's fresh simply by the brightness of the color. He also had Spring Rolls. I didn't take any other pics of what he had though as I was so busy gorging up on my own food, not having anything to eat after the 10:30 brunch. Lesson learned.

Overall, it's a great place to have sushi with friends and family, especially when you want to try the ones not sold or seen in any Japanese restaurants.

The premise of Sushi Train is this: chefs make up assorted plates of fresh sushi, with lid, and they are put on a conveyer belt that extends around the room passing by many tables and seats. You can pick up whatever you like from the belt, and best of all every plate is only $3.50 at this branch.

Landing this into not only sushi heaven (because you can quickly pick up plates you've watched them prepare, making this so much better than those sitting-there-all-day packs of lunch sushi) but also definite cheap eats realm ($15 easily feeds a person, and no we're not dreaming), I think this is my new favourite go-to in the city.

Service is impeccable. They greet you happily and thank you upon leaving, as a lot of Asian food establishments do, and will ask you if you'd like to order anything specifically, but otherwise leave you to have a long quiet munch or a chat over good food. Minimal when needed, but attentive and attuned to your needs. They're nearby wiping plates if you need to make eye contact, but they'll leave you be otherwise.

We sampled a variety of sushis. It started off a little quiet as it was still morning and there weren't that many varieties, but it quickly picked up near midday with a lot on the belt, so that was really good. I'm not sure they're all pictured on the menu, so I'll do my best to describe them.

First up was a California roll makizushi with a twist: the sushi rice outside was also dotted with little fish roe that popped sweetly in your mouth. In the middle was creamy surimi, cucumber, leafy greens and some sort of fish cake. It was a really nice lightly flavoured sushi to start the meal off with, and the two huge pieces decently occupied the plate. The seaweed is a bit tough on this one, so you might have to pop the entire roll in your mouth for a less messy affair, but that's insignificant considering the price.

Next was a very delicious squashed California roll with avocado and cream cheese, but it was topped with slices of smoked salmon and a dusting of spring onion, fish roe and red onion. The cream cheese added a nice texture to the slightly rough smoked salmon and the flavours all melded together really well. I don't usually like cream cheese in my sushi, but this was all right. I think the dry salmon and other bumpy textured ingredients tempered it.

The Ebi Katsu roll was delicious too. This plate was crammed with six pieces, which is even more impressive value, although I was a little bewildered by the huge leafy greens sprouting from the middle pieces. Again, it's a California roll looking affair, with prawn katsu on the outside four pieces, and fried prawn tails poking out of the inner two pieces. The sushi rice is mixed with sesame seeds. I really like how they make the California roll more interesting and tasty by combining the rice with assorted ingredients in different variations. The katsu was fresh and crispy, not soggy at all.

We opted for the Tiger Roll next. They were like katsu California roll makizushi (I swear, there were normal makizushi too, we just went for the more interesting looking dishes for variety), but layered with avocado slices on top and then the entire plate was squiggled with mayonnaise and a sprinkling of rice bubbles. The rice bubbles weren't crunchy, a bit soggy from the sauce, but I kind of liked that because it meant it didn't interfere with the sushi's texture as a whole. It was interesting, but I thought a bit too much sauce and mayonnaise for my liking, making it all a little too mushy in my mouth.

What was also incredibly creative was the Salmon and Tobiko Ships. They were huge, just fitting two on a plate, and overflowing with tiny tiny fish roe. There was a larger fish roe option, but I thought this one looked more interesting. It's essentially like fish roe nigiri wrapped round with slices of raw salmon. The salmon was incredibly fresh, and the concept very interesting, but the rice tasted slightly dull and the fish roe it was topped with was unfortunately not very fresh, so they didn't have the usual sweet pop factor in the mouth. I did like the idea a lot though, and felt if the ingredients were fresher it'd be an excellent execution.

The Mini Ebi Tempura nigiri was pretty good too, although I would've enjoyed a bit more sushi rice with it. Again, squiggled with mayonnaise and sprinkled with spring onion. No idea why, but the mayonnaise there was a little sour, but I was really impressed with the size of the ebi tempura and how crispy it was.

Lastly, there was some sort of katsu and tempura roe-studded California Roll to finish with. No soggy katsu or tempura from this place, and you definitely feel like you're eating healthy with the light sushi. If you prefer a more laden flavour, you can put soy sauce and other condiments on the sushi yourself.

I was super impressed by the variety and good value of Sushi Train. With some very minor points (because I'm picky and critical) that most establishments in this price range do a lot worse than. The novelty idea and creative creations are something we need more of in Auckland. A definite recommend to anyone in the area! It's worth the walk down, trust me.

I was first skeptical about coming here as my last experience at the Sushi Train down at Viaduct wasn't that great. But I thought why not give this one a chance - it could be different to the other one. I came with a friend for dinner on a Monday so the place wasn't crowded which I liked. The service was very efficient and friendly. The staff all greeted us just as we entered and we were seated immediately. The waitress was always attentive and would come by once in a while to check up on us. She also kept refilling our cups of green tea without us asking. The sushi chef was very friendly. We sat right in front of him and every time we took a plate off the conveyor belt he gives us a smile :b

The food was very good! The plates were only $3.50 each with a large variety of different types of sushi. The fish and seafood on each piece of nigiri were generously sliced. They weren't stingy with the ingredients at all! The fish was nice and thick with just the right amount of rice to complement it. The seafood tasted fresh but it wasn't the freshest I've tasted so far - I've recently went to Daruma and their sushi definitely tasted fresher but Sushi Train was still good! If the sushi you want isn't on the conveyor belt you can directly request the sushi chef to make it for you.

I'll be definitely coming here again! It is difficult to find conveyor belt sushi at such a cheap price. Will definitely recommend to sushi-loving people.

Came here with a friend for lunch one day on a deal voucher. Had heard mixed reviews about the Sushi Train, and I was a bit concerned whether the sushi would be fresh considering it just goes around and around on a conveyor belt, but it was actually surprisingly good!

We were greeted by a friendly waiter and seated immediately. There were only a couple of other people there, but that didn't really concern us as we just wanted to dig in and try the sushi.

We ate a selection of sushi, edamame beans and takoyaki (my absolute favourite). I thought everything tasted good, but I have definitely eaten nicer takoyaki!

I was also reassured once I saw two chefs constantly making sushi and putting it out on the conveyor belt. I made sure I picked up all those plates!

Overall, Sushi Train had tasty food, good service and a range of sushi to choose from. Recommend!

It seems like 1997 was just yesterday. In that year Simon Woodroffe introduced sushi trains to London after a business trip to Japan. The first one was in Soho (Frith St.?) and had robotic drinks trolleys which were quickly discontinued due to pilfering. The Yo Sushi! group went public and he sold out many tens of millions the better. But I digress... This reincarnation of this space in the Chancery is a great improvement on its predecessor. Although they use colour-coded plates, everything's $3.50 which is amazing value. All the nigiri (with the exception of unagi and scampi) come in duos; some of the California rolls would feed a family. At $3.50 for a generous soft shell crab you have to wonder how they're going to pay the bills. There is a reliance on frozen seafood but the variety's great; including baby squid, whelks, urchin, clams, octopus and bay scallops. The sea scallops were recently defrosted and did not have the appealing pearlescence of fresh, but when they came around as grilled and drizzled with a soy-based glaze - I think a blow torch was the source of heat- they looked amazing. Turns out they were - that plate was the best $3.50 I have spent on food this year. Some of the items are a bit random - tinned tuna salad sushi and sweetcorn mayo 'ships' and best left to others. Hurry for the grilled scallops and soft shell crab before they go bust!

ă„ă‚‰ă—ă‚ƒă„ăŸă™(irashaimase) is the first thing you hear when you walk through the doors of Sushi Train in the Chancery. Sushi Train in the Chancery recently opened, replacing the old Sushi Room that used to be here, not to be rude or anything, I was kinda happy they left. This is the second branch of Sushi Train in New Zealand and seems more authentic, with Japanese staff instead of Korean staff like Sushi Room - from the way you were greeted arriving and leaving the establishment, to the way you are served and spoken to.

I confess, I'm an absolute sucker when it comes to Japanese food, I enjoy it a lot more when it is prepared and served by a Japanese. Okays, let's get to it.

Sushi Train, is a Japanese Restaurant, run and operated by Japanese staff. Dishes are placed on a conveyor belt circling around the seating areas with the chefs in the middle constantly preparing and making more dishes. All dishes on the belt are $3.50 each, you can choose from sashimi, to different types of sushi, snack or you can order from their menu also available. So depending how much you eat is how much you pay. The room now compared to the old Sushi Room seems a lot more open and brighter - cleaner even.

My food -

So I found this newly opened eatery when I was walking to work (pretty much two doors up) and thought I would try it out for lunch :) and so I did. I ordered a Salmon and Ikura (salmon roe) don for takeaway which came to $13.50, I was surprised to see that the bowl was filled with thick slices of salmon sashimi (happiest girl) and a heap of ikura. The salmon tasted really fresh too, totally tasty. Plus, I got a Sushi Train pen - I guess it was an opening gift? - "note" - on the first occasion there was so soya sauce for my salmon, maybe due to the fact its still new, but the second takeaways I got soya sauce and the yummy kikkoman brand :)

After that takeaway experience, I told my partner about it so we decided to go there the next night for dinner. So my partner has lived in Japan for a year in the past, so he was immerse in Japanese culture, language and food, pretty much thrown in the deep end so he was happy to come here for dinner, even though it was much more expensive than Japan with their 100 yen Sushi Train (definitely must experience when I go Japan in the near future) Sorry, I didn't take photos of all my food that we ate, too busy eating and phone was low, but bare with the few I have taken (sorry for all the salmon sashimi photos, love it too much) :)

There were a few dishes that weren't on the conveyor belt that we wanted or wanted to try, so we signaled the staff what we wanted and they made it straight away, the creamy croquet is one of my favourite, so tasty, creamy and just YUM! Partner ordered beef tataki (seared beef) and it was perfect. The soft shell crab was amazing too, I swear it just melts into your mouth like the juicy salmon sashimi.

So overall, from the 4 times I've came to this place in the past 1.5 week it has been a blast. The standard and service hasn't dropped, if not gotten better since they recognized me :) haha. There's one bathroom, for this eatery, seating are like bar style with the conveyor belt infront of you, sitting in fours or you can sit away from everything by the window. Staff are always so smiley and friendly. WOULD DEFINITELY COME AGAIN, but must resist (poor wallet)

I recommend!
