After two weeks of eating the bland lacklustre food at the cafes in the Hospital I ventured out with a very low bar but the food was fantastic. It was flavoursome and the menu whilst small offered a variety of options. The cabinet food looked amazing. The cafe is worth the extra few steps out the front door. I regret not discovering it sooner!

Columbus Grafton is conveniently located by Auckland Hospital, The Domain and Med School with buses just outside. It's my preferred cafe to visit whenever I'm visiting family in hospital because the coffee is always fantastic, service is friendly and their food is delicious, a treat on the eye and the palate.

For anyone who does not want to get a coffee with any of the coffee places within the hospital and anyone wanting something more substantial for breakfast, people come to Columbus Coffee which is conveniently situated outside the hospital.
It's a good place to work on laptops, considering the multitude of power ports scattered throughout the café and it is mainly an issue of finding a convenient spot and connecting to WiFi. That said, it isn't free and tends to be a tad slow so hotspotting it would usually be a better idea.
A bonus for any Auckland DHB staff - proof of staff ID will give you a bonus discount, whether it is food or coffee related.
I did not order breakfast the day the pictures were taken but I would normally go for the big breakfast - hearty but eggs have a tendency to be overdone (especially when ordered scrambled.) Sunny side up or over easy is probably the easier way to go.

Columbus Cafe have catered for me twice now for a small working lunch. The selection of club sandwiches were delicious, beautifully presented and the process from ordering to pick up was excellent. Much appreciated and will definitely use again. Thank you!

Stay away from the bacon & egg bap as it's dry as the Sahara desert but the sausage roll is delish with melt in the mouth pastry and fennel flavoured tasty filling.

I actually like their coffee although the coffee at the hospital cafe is much better. The problem is the menu. You can’t have something little, everything is huge and with lots of ingredients and sauces etc, such a huge mess. Not very inviting.

One of my close friends who is a chef at the same time a part time food blogger at “Masarap Din” invited me to try out some of his latest dishes on offer at Columbus Coffee in Grafton, he is the head chef there and they do have Chef’s specials on offer that changes on a regular basis. These dishes are created by him and expect it to be an amazing fusion of Kiwi Cuisine and Asian more specifically Filipino, a creativity that brings amazing flavours to some Kiwi favourites.

Came in for a quick snack and caffeine boost as a study break today, grabbed a double shot mocha and carrot cake. Service was not great as I got ignored by one of the checkout ladies for a solid 2 minutes before somebody came over to ask what I wanted. The coffee came out fairly quickly and was above average quality which slightly made up for it. Carrot cake was fairly dry which was disappointing but still not bad. <br/>The atmosphere of the place was really nice, and it was so good to sit and study here for a while. <br/>Overall very average service and food and slightly above average coffee saved by a very nice locale.

Ordered a reboot smoothie, it was delicious but overpriced ($8.50) nice selection of food, service was ok. I would recommend the brownies they’re real good.

Didn't ask me if I would like sugar with my coffee who doesn't need sugar with coffee, coffee didn't taste anything special for 5$, the place looks swanky and very clean and modern give them that but meh would I go out of my way to get coffee here nope.

Came in for a snack today. Got a chocolate chip cookie and a bottle of orange juice. The cookie was thick and chunky. I personally prefer the more crunchier cookies but this one was super crumbly.... Cookie itself tasted average.

Decided to go for a hot chocolate and this place was the closest cafe near work which was still open around 1630. They were packing up but we were still able to go in and order some drinks. The cabinet was empty at this point though. We had the Belgian hot chocolate and it was alright. Came with a chocolate fish.<br/><br/>It was nice that we could just sit for a bit and we weren't rush out.

Place was great, very tidy and quite big. I love the fast service too. As for the coffee, it’s good but doesn’t stand out from other cafés. Overall, it’s a great place with reasonable price for your coffee. 😁☕️☕️☕️

Came here today for a quick feed in between studying and I was not disappointed. I ordered the tacos that came with a side of wedges (weird combination- right?!) anyways the wedges were crisp and the tacos delicious. Definitely will be back for another study break!

Had the Belgian hot chocolate here. Both good. Just like all Columbus coffees. Service quick and friendly. Wide range of hot chocolate to choose from. Get a little fish marshmallow.

Nice spacious cafe near Auckland hospital and Grafton Campus. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The lady serving me was very accommodating, and I was happy with my latte. Impressed that they have some paleo and vegetarian menu options too to cater to those with special dietary requirements :) Would definitely be willing to visit again.

we dined here for breakfast a few times recently and had our go to of eggs bene which was spot on every time. good food and good coffee backed up by quick service. just what we like for breakfast. we will be back each time we go to Auckland.

The staff are super friendly and helpful but I am never too impressed with the quality of food. There's a big range of cabinet food but not many vegetarian options. They are super busy being right by the hospital and manage to serve food really quickly which is a bonus!

Just waited 30 minutes for them to put the lasagne in the microwave for a minute. Had to ask twice where if was before they even remembered it. It's not a busy day at all (Thursday afternoon, 4 tables of people most just having coffee and 3 staff). Refused to let us talk to a manager. Would not come back again.

My friend and I work at the hospital and popped into columbus for breakfast on sunday morning. The cafe was aboslutely filthy! The place had just opened and the floors were coveres with crap, obviously hadnt been cleaned the night before or before opening. The bench top was also dirty. Hardly any of the food looked appealing and one of the cabinets had a fly in it! We were so put off and no way were we getting food!

Situated right next to Auckland City Hospital and within 1min walk to Auckland Domain. Their coffee is not the best but have to give them credit for the quality of food they serve. There are plenty of hot options from kitchens and large portion for its price. I had a Vietnamese baguette which has alot of fillings and flavours. The slow-cooked pork ribs was soft and juicy and the meat falls off the bones.

I came here this morning for breakfast and coffee. My dining companion and I both had eggs benedict. The food was nice and the bacon and eggs were perfectly cooked. I would have preferred a bit more hollandaise sauce on mine but there's was just enough. The coffee was ok but only average nothing amazing but wasn't bad either. The service was not really very great they had quite a few staff on but seemed disinterested and they were all rushing about even though it wasn't very busy. We had to ask three times to get a coffee loyalty card which was irritating. We did ask for water and had some bought over but the glasses it came in looked a bit grubby and had marks on them which wasn't very appealing.

I come here everyday for coffee, lunch and quite often breakfast. In my opinion it's th best franchise cafe I've been to in Auckland, with th best presentation of food, and also variety of food. Th lovely lady that makes my coffee called Amy- makes magnificent coffee, which she had gotten an award for! They always switch up th food in th cabinet so it's never boring. But all th little cakes and muffins in there are th prettiest ones you'll find around! Huge fan ^^
