Review Muzza's Pies - Auckland Central

Protassium Bros
Amazing pies and better tasting. Here you get the extra you paid for. Passion fruit turnover recommended.

I have had 100’s if not 1000’s of pies from Muzza’s over the years, their pies are always the best, but this was the best pie I have ever eaten, Steak Cheese Yum

I have been a customer of Muzzas pies for at least 10 years. Absolutely amazed that the quality of food and service has remained very high during this time. My favorite pie is their steak and kidney. In my opinion it is the best S&K pie ever. If you like S&K pies you need to try a Muzzas S&K pie. You will keep on going back for more year on year. Keep up the great work team.

I no longer live in the country, but I used to work in a company right opposite Muzza’s back in 2003. Their pies always been the best I have tasted in my whole life. I hope their recent crew still maintained the similar quality.

Some of the best pies in auckland. A step above the typical bakels copy and paste jelly pie recipes you find at most bakeries around auckland. Highly recommend the steak and cheese and the mince chilli sour cream. Just a note, muzzas pie warmer is set to nuclear so allow to sit for 10 minutes before you smash it back.

Very yummy pie, one of the best pie I ever eat so far in auckland. Plenty of different flavors, and also original one like meat beans jalapeño pie, chicken abricot, and plenty others to try! Vegetarian options as well as sweet options. Friendly and accommodating staff, it is also nice to see them making pie in front of you and see the process. I will definitely be back! Thanks,

I used to come here alot when I studied at Unitec. Today was a revisit after many years. Had the steak and cheese, steak and mushroom and pork sausage roll. Pies are jam packed with tender beef, absolutely delicious. Pies should be piping hot and these did not disappoint in taste and temperature. The sausage roll was really tasty too. Took home an apple and blueberry pie, this was ok. Will try more pies and another dessert one next time!

3 words...Smoked Fish Pie. My first time trying both Muzza's and a smoked fish pie. With no clue what to expect, went by the recommendations. It's got a good not so overpowering fish flavor with a light creamy sauce. Not too runny, just the way I like it and flakey. If you like heat in your food, goes great with some Sriracha. Highly recommend, you won't regret. I also picked up their Chicken Apricot pie, worth a try. It was good, not too sweet at all...maybe not for my taste preferences. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly. Small local shop, totally worth visiting for your pie fix. Can't believe it took me so long to try Muzza's. Wonder which pie I would order when I'm there next...

Not sure if Muzza's are a family business but the staff all seem so committed to their product and the matron who serves at the counter is someone you feel could be a lifelong friend.... awesome pies too!

Love a Muzza pie. Highly recommend Steak Onion and Tomato and the Mince, Chilli Bean and Sour Cream. Light pastry, chock full and flavorsome.

The absolute BEST pies in Auckland, melt in your mouth pastry with the most decent substantial fillings that you can tell have been made with quality ingredients and made with love!!! So good that I keep forgetting to take photos and only once demolished that I remember "I should have got a photo"

Excellent pies, especially the Chicken and Apricot…. They’re all very yummy though 👌

One of two bakeries in my elite tier of pie bakers. Custard tart with blueberry a must with any pie purchase, if there is any left.

a good old school kiwi shop with amazing pies and other baked goods. Friendly staff , highly recommend Muzza’s pies

Loved the pies. Pastry and filling are the best by far. Parking is available in-front of the shop.

As a pie connoisseur I can say that this is easily the best pies in Auckland maybe even the country. The staff are so friendly and warm welcoming I always recommend this place to people. 100/10

Since their first opening in 1990 in Penney Ave,.... this has been my favorite pie shop from DAY ONE. All pies are freshly baked on shop site. The BUTTER CHICKEN pie is delicious - nice and creamy. I will be back for more. 🤘👌

Tried the Steak and Kidney, Mince curry and Chicken Apricot. The pastry was very dry and the fillings were dry, salty and under filled. Meat was shredded instead of chunks which made it dry. The Mince curry had an awful raw curry powder taste. Good service but the pies are below average.

Traditional fresh kiwi pies made in a manner that was normal decades ago but hard to find these days - including tasty slow cooked beef in the steak pies. Caution, the pies are usually extremely hot if fresh from the oven. The pies here often sell out quickly so phoning in advance to reserve a pie in advance may be beneficial.

I go here numerous time’s for a good tasty pie!!!
My favourite is the smoke fish and the large apple pies!!!
Well recommended 😎

I have been going to Muzza's Pies for many years - I have sampled most of them - I can with all honesty say I have NEVER had a bad pie there - A testimony to the quality, during the week around 10:00 the place is well patronised with "Tradies" and they know a great pie shop - Great service and very friendly staff - Without any hesitation this is my go to pie shop 5/5 No problem

A local, literally walked there often. Over 10 years but have moved further away, but still stop in when convenient. Pies are not cheapest @ $5 per but the ingredients and on site hand made work cooking and baking from god knows what early hours, the owner and more recently his staff have always been enthusiastic and generous.

They bake family size (were @$13 approx) pies as well to order (prepaid) on demand, a few hours or days notice required but so worth it. Ingredients are best beef, same steak is minced, not cheap cuts, and other pies always tasty.

I cant be bothered with the exotic ones personally, but the meat, mince, bacon&egg etc, are all class. Two of them is mighty breakfast. Did I mention the great sausage rolls. Awesome. Fruit pies and trunovers equally as tasty- no cream however so you workers dont need to worry about your waist-lines.

Every pie gets a paper bag, every multi-order automatically gets a larger paper carry sack (and has been non-plastic over a decade, if ever)... Cash or card, your choice. Closed most normal holidays. Could be my second home if they'd let me...

Muzza's is a bit of a mixed bag for me. The best pastry is definitely found here & I love the mince, chilli beans, cheese & sour cream pie, as well as the smoked fish. Both are delicious!

Some of the other options are a bit tasteless for me like the classic mince & cheese. However, I guess they have to cater for all tastes.

Kids love the fruit turnovers & butter chicken pie.

Would love to see some more adventurous flavours. Maybe check out the competition? Let Them Eat Cake in Pt Chev does a seriously tasty chicken green curry pie and Pasadena's mince & cheese is full of flavour - just wish the pastry was as good as Muzza's.

Lastly, the staff here are really awesome. The woman who works here is so friendly & it makes such a difference to be served by someone with such great customer service. The owner's son is also a decent guy. Great staff are an asset. Hope the owner appreciates them & what they bring to his business.

Edit: have they changed the pastry? It doesn't seem as flaky & buttery.

If you consider yourself to be a pie aficionado there's no doubt you've heard of the legendary Muzza's. This modest shop in Mt Albert has offered nothing but good old fashioned Kiwi pies for well over 20 years now. The store itself could maybe do with a bit of TLC, but don't let that distract you from the star of the show. I came here one morning, mid 2017 & there he was....the magic man himself, Mr John Williams in the flesh as sharp as ever rolling out pastry lids. I had the steak & cheese pie and as delicious as it was, the bloody thing was piping hot! If you're thinking of visiting in hopes of gourmet or some weird hipster take on our beloved national treasure, turn around and walk away....far far away and never return

Grew up around this bakery, always got the Best Smoke Fish Pie melts in your mouth, Sausage Rolls always moist with heaps of onions that I love love. Meat pies with actual shredded meat you can feel and taste in your mouth.
Mystery Shopper
Disappointed, after making a special trip to get these as I remember them being the best thing ever with big chunks of steak and gooey cheese to what have just experienced sloppy crap with burnt cheese on top, wow!, what a complete change to when I used to frequent the store when it was on Swanson rd out west. I will never be back if this is the new quality. I buy better at the supermarket in Aus. I hope this ain’t the standard of N.Z pies these days....Didn’t get the smoked fish but that used to be banger to!

Have been coming here for last 18 odd years - Their Steak and cheese are amazing with shredded steak and real cheese. Pastry is delicious. Sausage rolls are great. Nice family owned business - always happy and smiling

Love this place for pies and have a great range but after going around twice a week for a couple years prices started to rise quite regularly and now are not really worth the price. The young guy behind the counter is real nice guy and keeps the pie warmers hot but the older guy has them set a bit on the warm side. So nice and hot with the young guy but every time I get from older gentleman they are warm. Steak & steak/cheese are best in my opinion, the steak melts in your mouth and the potatoe top is a belly filler if you willing to crack the wallet open. Sausage rolls unfortunately are a bit sad and tasteless. If you want a great pie and maybe won $15 on lotto and wanted to splurge, by all means stop in, you'll enjoy it. SO SAD CANT AFFORD ANYMORE. Oh parking can be a mission unless you park around the corner but that's not a deal for a expensive but QUALITY pie. But as usual everybody wants to park in the 2 carparks outside. Place could do with a lick of paint & proper window coverings instead of sheets of carboard, not like he cant afford it.

Best pies in Auckland. Chili bean, mince and cheese with sour cream is my favorite. They get busy so take care, when the pies are fresh out of the oven they come out hot

Fish pie I had was delicious!! Thoroughly enjoyed it! Partner had a steak and mushroom pie which he didn't enjoy, however he ate the other half of my fish pie which he also loved.

God, these guys make some of the best pie pastry around. Very flaky, very soft, very flavorful. I've tried a few of their pies and the smoked fish one is to die for. Their dessert pies are also pretty top notch 👌

I always drive past this shop every weekend and on the way home around 2:30AM I always see a guy on a push bike going to the shop. To me that dedication.
Today I knew I was going to drive past and since it was early i knew it was going to be open. As i walk in i was welcomed by two staff with friendly smiles and greetings. I ordered the Lamb & Pea Pie, Chicken Pie and Custard & Boysenberry Tart.
Yes the prices are a lot high that a lot of bakerys but this was well worth it!
The pastry for both pies and tart was very nice!Probably the best custard tart I've hard. The lamb pie was nice but didn't have much peas as expected.Chicken pie was okay, I love how the filling is think however it wasn't creamy as i was hoping it to be.However overall very good!

A mate of mine suggested that this place had the best fruit pies. So I decided to bring him along to the place and try them out. I ended up getting the Apple and Boysenberry pie, a bit pricey but was it worth the taste? That was a definite yes, although I'm not really a fruit pie person; this really hit the spot and changing my perception on fruit pies.

The person who served me was really kind and friendly, the smile was pretty much the icing on the cake. Which definitely made me satisfied with what I ordered.

Going inside, the movement of space is quite small. I mean you can move around it's just you cannot go further forward. You can either go left to the drinks fridge. But anyways, a good shop indeed.

I Googled 'Best Pies in Auckland' and wound up here. My favorite thing about this pie shop (besides the pies) is the fact that you wouldn't look twice at it whilst driving past, which I've done several times.

Once inside I felt I was greeted by family as opposed to staff, which was a pleasure and a real asset to the appeal of Muzzas.

I tried the chicken and apricot pie with a mince savory on the side. Both were divine but the chicken and apricot really stood out. I was pleasantly surprised how well the pastry stayed together, I'm all too used to having half the pasty on my lap after having a pie and this didn't happen at Muzzas. The chicken was tender and the apricot added a great balance by not being overly sweet. The gravy which held the pie together will be delicious to buy in its own which speaks highly of the quality behind this recipe.

As a Kiwi I belive Muzzas Pies is a store which represents our culture; close-knit, exotic, small, polite, and packs a punch.

I'll be going back today for lunch.

Been a customer since the beginning! Best pies in Auckland hands down. Would love if they wouldn't run out so quickly! Friendly people family business

Best pies in town. If like me you fondly remember the Muzza's Pies that used to be at the bottom of Don Buck Road around the turn of the century, you should note that the recipe here is slightly different and they don't pad the filling with mixed veg the way that Muzza used to.

This is a bit out of our way, so we typically phone in a large order (say $60 worth) in the morning for pickup in the afternoon. Then we have a hot pie each when we get home and the rest go in the freezer. The pies freeze and reheat (in the oven) very well. The family size pies work well for an easy dinner for 3-4, just add veg.

These pies are kept HOT HOT HOT in the store, so I don't recommend tucking into one the second you get back to your car. Structural integrity can also be a weak point (they tend to be very generous with the filling), so best to eat with a plate to catch escaping filling if you can manage it.

Mum highly rates the steak & kidney pies. We all like the steak & mushroom. The mince & cheese is great, but the steak & cheese is better. When making a telephone order, we always request they double the cheese, which they're happy to do. (On my request, they also made me up an experimental steak, cheese, & mushroom pie once. Not a winner, alas, so I'm doomed to always having to choose between the awesome steak & mushroom and the awesome steak & cheese.)

To tell you the truth, I've never considered myself a pie fan, and I seldom meet a pie I like. But I could eat Muzza's pies all day.

Recommended.

Someone told me about this place and I am so pleased they did! Their pies are amazing! Only downside is that they aren't open in the weekends!! Their potato top pie with pastry on top is indulgent and delicious!!
David Vince
The pies are so good here that when I buy pies elsewhere I compare them to these ones. These are a 10 and the best I've had elsewhere could only reach an eight on the muzza scale. The staff are always very friendly too
Max
Yes they are good pies and sausage rolls!
Service can be a bit hit and miss depending on how the staff are feeling I suppose.
And they do vary with the amount of filling in them sometimes they are full and sometimes half full?? But yup good pie for your $
