Traditional fresh kiwi pies made in a manner that was normal decades ago but hard to find these days - including tasty slow cooked beef in the steak pies. Caution, the pies are usually extremely hot if fresh from the oven. The pies here often sell out quickly so phoning in advance to reserve a pie in advance may be beneficial.
I go here numerous time’s for a good tasty pie!!!
My favourite is the smoke fish and the large apple pies!!!
Well recommended 😎
Pie: steak and cheese
Good pastry, good filling, actually has cheese.
I have been going to Muzza's Pies for many years - I have sampled most of them - I can with all honesty say I have NEVER had a bad pie there - A testimony to the quality, during the week around 10:00 the place is well patronised with "Tradies" and they know a great pie shop - Great service and very friendly staff - Without any hesitation this is my go to pie shop 5/5 No problem
A local, literally walked there often. Over 10 years but have moved further away, but still stop in when convenient. Pies are not cheapest @ $5 per but the ingredients and on site hand made work cooking and baking from god knows what early hours, the owner and more recently his staff have always been enthusiastic and generous.
They bake family size (were @$13 approx) pies as well to order (prepaid) on demand, a few hours or days notice required but so worth it. Ingredients are best beef, same steak is minced, not cheap cuts, and other pies always tasty.
I cant be bothered with the exotic ones personally, but the meat, mince, bacon&egg etc, are all class. Two of them is mighty breakfast. Did I mention the great sausage rolls. Awesome. Fruit pies and trunovers equally as tasty- no cream however so you workers dont need to worry about your waist-lines.
Every pie gets a paper bag, every multi-order automatically gets a larger paper carry sack (and has been non-plastic over a decade, if ever)... Cash or card, your choice. Closed most normal holidays. Could be my second home if they'd let me...

Recommended by one of our friends. We walked here to grab the best pie in town. One that you must try if you are pie lover.
Im a huge and being a from NZ pies are life . I love the chicken and vegetables the apple the steak um well I have yet to have one I didn't like . Hence why they sell out proofs in the pies
Muzza's is a bit of a mixed bag for me. The best pastry is definitely found here & I love the mince, chilli beans, cheese & sour cream pie, as well as the smoked fish. Both are delicious!
Some of the other options are a bit tasteless for me like the classic mince & cheese. However, I guess they have to cater for all tastes.
Kids love the fruit turnovers & butter chicken pie.
Would love to see some more adventurous flavours. Maybe check out the competition? Let Them Eat Cake in Pt Chev does a seriously tasty chicken green curry pie and Pasadena's mince & cheese is full of flavour - just wish the pastry was as good as Muzza's.
Lastly, the staff here are really awesome. The woman who works here is so friendly & it makes such a difference to be served by someone with such great customer service. The owner's son is also a decent guy. Great staff are an asset. Hope the owner appreciates them & what they bring to his business.
Edit: have they changed the pastry? It doesn't seem as flaky & buttery.
If you consider yourself to be a pie aficionado there's no doubt you've heard of the legendary Muzza's. This modest shop in Mt Albert has offered nothing but good old fashioned Kiwi pies for well over 20 years now. The store itself could maybe do with a bit of TLC, but don't let that distract you from the star of the show. I came here one morning, mid 2017 & there he was....the magic man himself, Mr John Williams in the flesh as sharp as ever rolling out pastry lids. I had the steak & cheese pie and as delicious as it was, the bloody thing was piping hot! If you're thinking of visiting in hopes of gourmet or some weird hipster take on our beloved national treasure, turn around and walk away....far far away and never return
Grew up around this bakery, always got the Best Smoke Fish Pie melts in your mouth, Sausage Rolls always moist with heaps of onions that I love love. Meat pies with actual shredded meat you can feel and taste in your mouth.
Amazing pies and better tasting. Here you get the extra you paid for. Passion fruit turnover recommended.
I have had 100’s if not 1000’s of pies from Muzza’s over the years, their pies are always the best, but this was the best pie I have ever eaten, Steak Cheese Yum
I have been a customer of Muzzas pies for at least 10 years. Absolutely amazed that the quality of food and service has remained very high during this time. My favorite pie is their steak and kidney. In my opinion it is the best S&K pie ever. If you like S&K pies you need to try a Muzzas S&K pie. You will keep on going back for more year on year. Keep up the great work team.
I no longer live in the country, but I used to work in a company right opposite Muzza’s back in 2003. Their pies always been the best I have tasted in my whole life. I hope their recent crew still maintained the similar quality.
Some of the best pies in auckland. A step above the typical bakels copy and paste jelly pie recipes you find at most bakeries around auckland. Highly recommend the steak and cheese and the mince chilli sour cream. Just a note, muzzas pie warmer is set to nuclear so allow to sit for 10 minutes before you smash it back.
Very yummy pie, one of the best pie I ever eat so far in auckland. Plenty of different flavors, and also original one like meat beans jalapeño pie, chicken abricot, and plenty others to try! Vegetarian options as well as sweet options. Friendly and accommodating staff, it is also nice to see them making pie in front of you and see the process. I will definitely be back!
Thanks,
I used to come here alot when I studied at Unitec. Today was a revisit after many years.
Had the steak and cheese, steak and mushroom and pork sausage roll.
Pies are jam packed with tender beef, absolutely delicious. Pies should be piping hot and these did not disappoint in taste and temperature.
The sausage roll was really tasty too.
Took home an apple and blueberry pie, this was ok. Will try more pies and another dessert one next time!
3 words...Smoked Fish Pie. My first time trying both Muzza's and a smoked fish pie. With no clue what to expect, went by the recommendations. It's got a good not so overpowering fish flavor with a light creamy sauce. Not too runny, just the way I like it and flakey. If you like heat in your food, goes great with some Sriracha. Highly recommend, you won't regret.
I also picked up their Chicken Apricot pie, worth a try. It was good, not too sweet at all...maybe not for my taste preferences.
The lady at the counter was nice and friendly. Small local shop, totally worth visiting for your pie fix. Can't believe it took me so long to try Muzza's. Wonder which pie I would order when I'm there next...
Not sure if Muzza's are a family business but the staff all seem so committed to their product and the matron who serves at the counter is someone you feel could be a lifelong friend.... awesome pies too!
Love a Muzza pie. Highly recommend Steak Onion and Tomato and the Mince, Chilli Bean and Sour Cream. Light pastry, chock full and flavorsome.
