Review The Alley - Auckland Central

I was looking forward to trying this place when I first saw it. Their specialty is a brown sugar deerioca milk. I thought it was milk tea but upon ordering was informed that it was milk. Not the biggest fan of milk but tried it anyway. It wasn't until after ordering that I noticed they had chocolate deerioca milk. The brown sugar pearls were warm and had a nice chewy consistency. The flavour was quite nice. it also came out remarkably fast. The shop is very quaint with a few stools around as well as a couch. It looks very comfortable and inviting. The drinks were good and they do have milk tea on the menu. A nice place to catch up with friends or just to sit and relax.

Came to finally try this place out, having heard good things about their bubble tea... Cosy little space, so you probably can't gather a big group, or if you did, you could take away and head up Albert Park on a sunny day. The decos are pretty cute though. Now the bubble tea... I ordered the no.1 tea which was the plain brown sugar with pearls. It was good, but I might've overhyped it haha. They have a massive menu though, so I would come back to try something else. They also have wifi so it's a potential workspace too! Sadly they actually closed up before the time on google maps (around 6.30). Not sure if that's a regular thing or one off but it worked for me since I needed to head off anyway, but just giving people a heads up...

Tried a couple of milk teas (#1 and #2 on the most popular menu) here to see what the hype was about. Both were great! Great taste and really nice pearl. However, the price is pretty darn steep for what you are getting. I would recommend getting a large size as it is only a dollar and a bit more.

This is the best bubble tea shop in Auckland near the starbucks. Actually its kind of expensive than any other bubble tea around there, but it was worth to try. Brown sugar milk was so good! And so nice and cozy place

Their signature Brown sugar deerioca milk is delicious and the quality of service is excellent. While I was enjoying the brown sugar deerioca milk, I was interrupted by the voice of a customer. I noticed that one of the guests was very impatient to hear the staff explain. Even though the staff kept apologizing, she ignored them. I sensed her disrespect for the service staff and even some racial discrimination. I hope I'm overthinking it, but I have some sympathy for the staff. Hope everyone has a nice day.

I grab a Garden Milk tea something! And it was my frist time to visit. So when i ordered and i asked about something of the menu, the staff explained it kindly! The shop was so busy tho!!! Really thank you :)) and the flavor is nice!!! Good choice 😄

If you want a more premium tasting bubble tea than gongcha come here 😍 the pearls and toppings are so yum

They are very quick to make the milk tea and it's delicious. Their regular Brown Sugar Milk tea is very good
Maya K.
Nice tea both iced and cold version with toppings. My favourite is brown sugar jelly topping đŸ‘đŸŒ

Great drinks. I've ordered mango lulu with coconut milk, brown sugar deerioca with creme brulee, and lychee lulu with yogurt. All amazing drinks, very good quality. A little bit pricey but it's well worth it. Highly recommend coming here.

Got the matcha brown sugar drink. The matcha drink part tasted like a standard slightly creamy matcha drink. The pearls weren’t the best texture. I honestly think I got a bad batch

Very good place for bubble tea. I'm just not satisfied that it is hidden in the wedge between Albert Park and Queen Street. A hidden gem in the city for boba-lovers. <br/><br/>Their menu and beverage concept is very creative and original, especially their seasonal drinks as well as their "Aurora series" beverage. <br/><br/>Interior space is very cosy and comfortable, although the central tree-decor is questionable for me. Obscures almost 100% of space as you enter and I'm not sure if this is intentionally part of the "spatial experience". <br/><br/>Have came here more than once and tried their entire drinks menu and I have to say the sweetness varies greatly for each drink and really depends on the choice you pick. I'm very happy the first time having picked some of them, the staff will suggest you to pick certain sugar and ice levels to achieve the "taste" of the product they are advertising for. Very professional and considerate to customer satisfaction. <br/><br/>Only thing stopping me from giving it a full 5 is there is something missing, maybe the "wow" factor? <br/><br/>

I love their little happiness milk tea 30% sugar. Yummy smashed taro with red bean and black pearls! Their pearls are the best! I suggest you try it. It's a bit pricey but really worth it!

I tried their brown sugar deerioca crĂšme brulee milk tea with pearls, their range was priced on the cheaper side. Nice and sweet with sticky pearls. The drink had liquid white lumps which I think is maybe milk powder? That also tasted sweet too. On the package on the drink it recommends to consume within half an hour.<br/>Cute and cozy atmosphere.

I love this cute milk tea shop.Tucked away from the central Queen st, High st or Lorne st, this shop is quite small and you might walk past it without paying any attention. But I’m glad that I finally made it and glad I made a good choice. Being able to select good food is such a special ability and my source of happiness!

Super love their brown sugar pearl, it’s really soft and tasty. For me, after stirring, the sweetness of the brown sugar deerioca milk is perfectThe enviro is tidy and comfortable, and their staffs are really helpful and friendly. Cute, Cute, Cute!

Finally have a chance to try this famous branding bubble Tea shop. But unfortunately, very disappointed. Too pricey for what you get. The tea taste is very light. Just full of sugar. Too many bubble tea shop around in city nowadays.
Pig Cat
Like the black sugar bubble tea. Just right sweetness and you will never be enough of it. Quiet and clean ambience for sitting down. Friendly and helpful staffs.

Very polite and friendly customer service. I was able to save the environment and got a 50Âą discount since my own cup was 10ml less than the regular cup measurements (which is 500ml)! Tasty brown sugar deerioca :))
KTHAW
Very polite customer service! Drinks taste AMAZING!!! Brought our own cups and straws for the environment, even took off 50 cents since our cups weren’t up to measure (save the environment while saving your wallets!) Great place just to hang and chill out with friends! Highly recommend coming here for some great stuff!!!

The Alley is a popular milk tea chain that joined the Auckland scene last year. It's conveniently close to UoA but unfortunately pretty pricey. Pictured are drinks from their signature brown sugar series: Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk and Brown Sugar Matcha Derrioca Milk. $9.30 for regular and extra $1.50 for large size. With the prices almost double the price of Gongcha, I don't think I'm willing to spend this much on milk tea again.<br/><br/>Check out my insta @ohmyfoodiegoodieto to follow more of my tried eats!

Ordered a fresh milk tea with Rainbow jelly, incredibly! Strongly recommended! It tastes fresh with rubbery jelly. I love the environment, good place for dating!

Been there many times, loving their indoor decor and vibe, cozy and fancy. Great place to hang out with friends. They just introduced new drinks to their menu. Just tried the most popular one, kiwi slush. Highly recommended. refreshing taste and the bubbles inside are chewy but tender. One of the best bubble milk tea store in CBD and I love it. Can’t wait to see what they introduce next.
Lum Lum
My review is honestly redundant. I don’t even drink milk. I just got the peach oolong tea warm without any toppings.<br/><br/>Price point is quite high for just essentially a tea bag + hot water ://<br/><br/>However the carrier sleeve that the drink is in is THE ABSOLUTE CUTEST CARRIER! The store’s aesthetic and vibe is so cute too, plus it’s very cozy and warm inside as well. Another highlight is that the staff were genuinely super lovely and kind to me!! I’m indecisive as heck and they were so patient and gave me good recommendations :) 💛
Asianfoodie
They have the best bobas - really chewy with a reasonable level of sweetness from the brown sugar. Also really attracted to the friendly service with a quiet ambience. Would visit often but some people may find the drinks to be quite pricey.
Bigtree
The little happiness milk tea is so good for me. All the toppings inside (brown sugar bubble, red bean , and mushed taro) get a really nice balance. Not too sweet. The red bean is my favorite soft red bean. And from the taste and appearance of the mushed taro, I can tell the mushed taro is made by the fresh taro not the can taro or taro pigment. Will come back again. <br/>

Tag,tag. Really good and warm service. New good choice for bubble tea. It will be perfect for them if they have a milk tea which contains brown sugar bubble. Hope they can see this review and have a new drink, hhhhhh
The Poor Foodie
Disappointed in the brown sugar creme brĂ»lĂ©e milk...<br/>The taste was so bland. In my first few sips I could only taste milk and the pearls and barely tasted the creme brĂ»lĂ©e. I could see the brown sugar from the appearance of the drink but could barely taste it. The drink is on the pricey side (like $9) and small compared to other places. I don’t think I’ll come back again......

I always go to this tea store to purchase a takeaway brown sugar deerioca milk. I like the appearance of the drink. It is cute. Both hot one and cold one are tasty. And the service is warm.

I really like the concept and interior of this milk tea store, they’re really cosy, not too crowded seats and there’s even happy music playing in the background. It’s a nice place to chill especially now that the weather is getting cooler. <br/><br/>I placed my order and took a seat, the girl even hand delivers the tea to me! <br/><br/>I ordered the brown sugar in cocoa milk, really filling and yummy! A bit on the expensive side at $9.50 for a drink.

Been here once, tried their no.1 best selling brown sugar bubble tea and it’s really tasty. I can tell it’s made with fresh milk and the pearls are chewy, milk tea is not too sweet and I love it. Friendly service, staff are quite helpful with first time visitors. The place is really cute with nice sitting areas and room decos. I would give it a 5 star if it wasn’t so expensive, it cost $9.30 for a medium sized.

Cozy little shop down from Albert Park. Nicely arranged seatings and decors. Love the tree branch in the center. Definitely an upper end pearl tea shop.<br/><br/>Tried their Garden milk tea, the tea and biscuits crumbs had just the right amount of sweetness. Pearls are fresh and chewy. Would go everyday if I’m not on a diet.<br/><br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Food presentation: 8/10<br/>Service: 7/10<br/>Location: 6/10<br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Price $9 per person

Strongly recommend the brown sugar black tea latte. I love the taste and the look is just stunning. The mike foam is salty and perfectly matches the sweetness of the fresh milk tea, quite a bold ideas but very successfully made me fall in love with this product.
Alley
The drinks I got were the Milk foam black tea latte I think and the brown sugar deerioca fresh milk. Let’s a talk about customer service, the staff there were so sweet and patient, very friendly, they explained everything in detail and they especially stated that the deerioca series contains no tea etc, which I thought was very useful info because I just thought it was milk tea at the beginning. The drinks are no doubt worth the price, I mean when they were making the fresh milk they used the milk I use to make breakfast in the mornings which is the anchor blue top milk. I’ve seen some reviews in here saying that the fresh milks are flavourless and customer service was bad, but I mixed the brown sugar pearls and the milk together and it legit tastes like caramel milk, and for customer service I would 100% recommend going to the shop and experience it in real life then you would know what I’m on about. The milk foam on top of the black tea latte was so good! Honestly not too fatty not too creamy, just the right amount for a milk foam👌 <br/>In all honesty, I would go to this shop just for the customer service, the drinks are just as amazing. Would totally recommended, go give it a try!
Andrea
The new product - Deerioca cream brulee milk is quite nice! The bubble is soft but chewy and the brulee is creamy. I love the taste and I think it's the best bubble I've ever had. Orange Lulu and the milk foam series are my favorite as well. The staff are nice and patient and the products will be ready in a short time. It's worth a try!

4.5/5 Taste<br/>4.5/5 Display <br/>3.5/5 Quantity <br/>4/5 Customer Service<br/><br/>Great Milk Tea shop in CBD<br/><br/>This place is amazing. The tea is almost perfect, the texture of bobas, flavour, sweetness. <br/>Location is good too, probably the closest boba shop from Auckland Uni. <br/>Surprised to see that Tony Ma had ordered the same teas.
😎
I tried the brown sugar deerioca matcha milk and it was tasted amazing. The brown sugar pearls were very nice and chewy. The customer service was also very good. The price is a bit steep but I can’t fault the drink so can’t complain 😆.

First time visit here. The black milk tea’s pearl-absolutely recommended. Didn’t taste like artificial pearls. Atmosphere was good, friendly service too. I think the presentation of the packaging is neat too.

What a pleasant consumer experience it was.<br/><br/>Tried the new product named Orange Lulu at the recommendation of their very patient receptionist. It tastes fresh, cool and suits the hot summer in Auckland.<br/><br/>What is worth mentioning is that the environment here is very comfortable. The cushions on the sofa is very soft but the sofa sits a little hard, hope the boss can improve it will be better.<br/><br/>Next time I'll come here again with my friends and try something else.<br/><br/>

Love the black sugar Pearl fresh milk here. Pearl are fresh made, chrwy but tender. Not too sweet which is pretty good. Staff really friendly and explain everything that to makes your clear. Environment nice and clean with so much cool deco. Large size for 10.8, not cheap but match the quality.

Wow.. I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews... <br/><br/>For me I only order black sugar fresh milk bubble tea.. because this is what they are famous for, nothing else.. <br/><br/>Mine tasted quite ok and enjoyable... I personally think the low reviews is due to the price... my cup was over $10, whereas gong cha can make one just as good for $7... maybe that is why the bad reviews? But I could be wrong...<br/><br/>Overall ok experience and the wife liked the pearls too... <br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Drink Quality: 4/5<br/>Drink Quantity: 3/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>Price per person: $10

Soft and chewy brown sugar boba unlike any others. The milk is fresh and isn't too sweet. Although it is a bit pricey for what it is. I'd love to come back and try other flavours if the road to The Alley wasn't so steep.
Jay
I love Bubble tea, and though I'm no connoisseur, I had better expectations given the decor. The drink was just sugary, and didn't really have much substance to it. Just felt like ordinary milk with brown sugar added to it and sold for $8. Gong Cha is far better down the street!!

Ordered the signature brown sugar deerioca milk and on Saturday, we were expecting a long queue but luckily there wasn’t. The milk tea tasted alright but nothing really special, the staff also refused to add more pearls into the milk and told me the taste would changed.. it turned out just quite disappointing .. I would say my drink isn’t worth the price ($9.3). <br/>The other Aurora nice looking drink we had was just way too overpriced.. $13 for a lousy taste slushy??
Lana Hunter
Finally tried the Brown sugar Deerioca milk and it was great! But expensive!<br/>This little shop has a nice ambiance and the server was very friendly so if you are going for the atmosphere the price may be worth it.<br/>But if I return I will probably try a less pricey item.
Tanya Chalermtip
I got Fresh milk garden milk tea but she say they don't have fresh milk yet.<br/><br/>Anyway, I got 50% sugar which make the drink not too sweet but it doesn't really taste milky eaither, it is more watery. The tapioca is not the softest, more chewy if you prefer the chewy ones you may like it. I personally like a softer tapioca.<br/><br/>The price for some menu like regular milk tea drinks are acceptable but some special menu like brown sugar drinks are quite pricy.<br/><br/>I do like the atmostphere inside the cafe, it is nice and cosy. The big window nicely framing the view of Albert Park.<br/><br/>Overall I like the space of the cafe itself and would go back to try other menu as they have variety of unique milk tea and other tea drinks.

Totally recommended, this tea shop is very famous in China, the decoration is suitable for taking pics. There is air conditioning, the good choice in NZ’s Summer. The brown sugar deerioca milk is delicious, milk is strong and fresh, and the new one fresh fruit series are good and fresh, the strawberry is real. My child like this shop.

What an amazing place! The staff is very polite and helpful, the bevereges are very taste, its a good vibe and I would totally recommend it!!!

I went there two times, first time I ordered brown sugar deerioca matcha milk, the pearls are hot, the staff told me it is their characteristic feature, tasted so unique! Second time I ordered the garden milk tea, it really looks like a garden on the top! I really like the decorations and atmosphere in the shop, and next time I will take my friends to there!
Zoe Liu
Wow, it is the first time I drink The Alley, the taste is so silky, just like taffy milk tea. I had a black sugar deerioca milk, black sugar is not very sweet, the proportion of black sugar for the drink is just right, not greasy, but good to drink, super recommendation. there were a lot of people in line, but it worth it.
Dota
I really recommend the blueberry falvor milk tea and peach oolong tea. These are my favorites. <br/>Short waiting time, I still remembered that we have to wait for 1 hour at The alley in China. Now I can have it at Auckland. Nice place to go with friends. <br/>
Louise
Came here New Year’s Eve, the wait wasn’t a big issue, however, we ordered a cold dirty milk tea each and for some reason half the drink was cold and half of it was warm, there was no ice in the drink either? The store is definitely too hot (no wonder everything is such a weird temperature).<br/>Personally think the drinks look very aesthetic but is it worth the lukewarm drink for the price it is? Not really. <br/>
Hidia
The alley's decoration is very beautiful and is suitable for taking photos. Their brown sugar pearl is the softest I have ever eaten in Auckland. I can't drink ice ,The front desk staff patiently explained and recommended me to drink something hot. Then you can see that they have a very clean work room and use fresh milk. It was a great experience. I'll come back next time.
Nina
Ive had bubble tea at practically every going on Auckland. And at the Alley , I ordered Fresh Milk Tea with pearl tastes like water. <br/><br/>If they could fix this if only go there since yet use fresh milk.
Yummy
Good place, good taste. Luckily 10 minuets get one over here but it gonna spent more than 1 hour in China, the brown sugar pearl needs 1.5 hours to prepare. Good news the air conditioning is fixed, the environment is good, I love the tree and the No.1 brown sugar. Good flavor! Recommend!
Honey Daniels
Not worth the hype at all .. service is super slow . They have easily 5 people in the kitchen but all are working at the pace of 🐌 the signature drink is less than average .. literally is just milk n pearls . No doubt the pearls are soft and warm but there is no special flavour to the drink . All I taste is some sweetness n milk . Their “signature brown sugar” taste isn’t even prominent .. a small hiccup happened and all crews just froze .. don’t know what to do instead of moving on and calling the next order until that current order is rectified .. chatime or gongcha beats them hands down in terms of taste , service speed and definitely price . $9.30 for this milk + pearls is just a super rip off
Brave Eat
My order took way too long! which i was confused about as I saw many staff working and crowded around the kitchen. The flavours are not strong felt like there is more water than milk. Pearls were way too sweet and I felt sick after. I was so disappointed, hope it gets better soon as theres so many bubble tea places in cbd now.
Wmhyyzyqo
I ordered one of the recommended drinks Brown sugar pearls Matcha milk. The line wasn’t too long, but waited for hours, the staffs were too slow and unskilled. The drink did not have the nice taste that I expected. The matcha was too powdery and bitter and the milk did not have the depth flavor itself, instead it was so lite, taste like leftover milk. The pearls were chewy, as it just like other bubble shops, nothing too special. <br/>The price was too high, it is not worth it.<br/>The interior was small, and it was so stuffy, couldn’t breathe. Hopefully the owner can install air conditioning or exhaust equipment.
Kelly909699
Super expensive, not worth it. The wait was long the shop was extremely stuffy with no air conditioning (or efficient cooling). Do not recommend.
Jeanie Tong
I had a pretty good experience today and will come back in the future except one thing is the shop is too hot and crowded. I hope they will set up air-conditioning inside. Otherwise, it is going to be a pain when summer is here. <br/><br/>P/S: Today promotion gets the 2nd drink half-price (2nd drink is only for milk tea series). I highly recommend ordering their fresh milk with brown sugar tapioca (price is quite high).

Went to the grand opening today with friends to try this new milk tea place. There was a long line as expected for new openings. However, the horrible ventilation system in the store and the rude staff made it all worse. The whole place does not have proper windows and all they had was one fan running when there were ~20 people in the store at any point in time waiting for their orders. <br/><br/>They were obviously also inexperienced as they took very long to go through the line. It also took us one whole hour to reach the front of the line (
