Review Nanas Fish House - Auckland Central

First time here today 18/10/23 for lunch The fish was fresh, non greasy, i opted for battered hoki fish. Also the chips were lovely , great portion sizes. Will return and would highly recommend.

Was craving good, I mean really good and decent fish & chips and decided to look where the good spots are in Auckland. Nana’ Fish House was listed on the Urban List and to my surprise it was around the corner from me (my local). I’ve always driven past and the place does look unassuming but still gave it a try as it was listed on the Urban List as well as being my local. To my surprise it was absolutely amazing. Best Fish & Chips I’ve had in Auckland in my opinion. Now I come every now and then when I crave fish & chips.

I was told that this was the best fish and chips in Auckland, my God it was bestest and yummiest fish and chips i eat. The fish was so fresh and tasty, and it was so smelling so delicious that we eat without taking any photos but will definitely go again to buy more. Anyone craving to eat fish and chips this is the place to go. They have the best fish and chips, and its affordable too. The owner is so friendly and nice. Totally recommend to everyone, you won't be disappointed at all 😊

Great value for money. The fish is AMAZING. Soft batter, breaks away easily yet still has a great shape and not soggy. Sausages were good and nuggets also great flavour. Chips were also great. Solid meal, the kind that makes you smile when you don't mean to

This place is so underrated, don’t judge a book by its cover! We’ve been here for fish and chips twice now! Fish is super delicious - melts in your mouth. Such good value packs that ensure there’s something for everyone. We got “F5” - 2x fish, 2x spring rolls, 3x nuggets and a scoop of chips for $21 which was plenty for the two of us. We will be back soon :)

Owner told us that he uses fresh fish and never used frozen fish. fish is fresh and generous in size compared to other fish and chips place. $9.99 for 2 fish+chips is pretty good value. we liked the flexibility to be able to change to twisted fries and kumara chips if u top up the price difference. we liked it so much that we visited this place 3 times during our short stay in auckland. first 2 times, was hoki, the 3rd time was another type of fish. we liked the hoki version more. twisted prawns had real prawn wrapped with popiah skin. If fish could be less oily, if chips could be more generous it would be perfect. when we found this place, the shop looks close as the interior was dark and no open door to enter, and after some figuring out, realised it's actually open. u need to go to the small window and request to order as owner may be busy cooking. we saw a customer walked away when they saw no one came out to take orders. Keep up the good work in providing good fish and chips! We wish Nana Fish and Chips a prosperous business!

1 big piece of very fresh snapper (not like those from frozen freezer) wrapped with thin layer of crunchy pastry. No need extra sauce, just a little salt and lemon (provided). $13 per. Succulent! Highly recommended!

The worker there is very friendly. The fish and chips is the best we have had in Auckland and very well worth the price. Never disappointed by the service and the food. Highly recommend!!!!

One of the best fish and chips I have had in Auckland. The fish was very fresh and the owner is very sweet and humble gentleman who takes great care with each and every order. This is a hidden gem which I recommend everyone to try.

Lovely service! I got a text to tell me that my order was ready which was really handy as Aucklands currently in level 3 & the weather today was terrible ⛈ the man that also serviced me was lovely, he thanked me for visiting which I thought was so nice of him and I don’t think I’ve ever heard this from an eatery before! They’re also FIANZ certified so there’s no worries of cross contamination ☺️

Went to nana's on sunday after reading the reviews on zomato. I have to say, this is going to be my go to fish n chips shop! Everything was on point and the fish dint have those thick batters which was amazing. awesome customer service!

This new little fish and chip shop is truly agem. The owner was so lovely and polite and we are definitely looking forward to going back. The fish was so fresh and very generous portions. The $20 special was more than enough for 2 people. Highly recommend this place.

Service is quick (one star for that), staff member don't have manners to talk with customers. Seating are is smelly, kitchen is unhygienic, and also they use same oil to fry chicken, beef, fries, etc. They don't use gloves, maybe after this review they start wearing it.<br/>Will not recommend to anyone.

great food whilst at a very reasonable price what more can you ask for,  came here for a late night meal and was happy to see not only was the food priced well, the portion was nice.<br/><br/>Fish burger was damn good.

First time visit this place, pass from the area many times but today I had the chance to try their food ,  I tried Fish burger combo, large portion,  and tasty, highly recommend.

Found them listed on Menulog and so, after seeing all the stars, the unbelievable high rating, took the chance and learned a lesson.  I ordered one piece of the $11.50 snapper (The portion size was like that of a child's meal.  I've added photo so that you aren't as shocked by your purchase with the filet next to both my little portable bluetooth mouse and the lemon slice for comparison), chips, pineapple ring and a doughnut.  The snapper was clearly a frozen breaded fillet from Gilmore's or Countdown, reheated.  The pineapple ring was coated with odd spices of some kind... cardamom?  masala? ...something reminiscent of a sweet curry spice, and the doughnut was rubbery with a heavy bread-like consistency.  The doughnut must be from a kit of some kind I'm thinking.  It hit the bin after the first bite.  The chips were crisp and done well and were only $4.00.  My partner got the chicken burger.  It was good, just a bit skinny for toppings, so little for toppings that he can't even recall what the toppings might have been other than some sauciness going on of some kind... pretty much just a "few pieces of meat" sandwich.  I see on the menu that they list lettuce, tomato and onion... hard to know that by what arrived at our home.  It must have had some of each.  If we'd lifted the bun we might have come across one of each of these things.  So, not quite clear on just how these guys rate so high, clearly not for their food!  All I can figure is that the store itself must be amazing somehow... or, they have a large family with lots of friends who don't mind hopping on Zomato for hitting that 5 * rating on behalf of their friend.  Either way, be forewarned.  We learned a lesson and won't be going back or ordering from a highly rated establishment with almost NO comments to support why they are rated so highly.  A real rip off.

This place is one of the best places to dine in when you dont feel like cooking. Their delicious fish burger is one of my favourite food. Lovely customer service..their food are cooked for your preferences. Definitely it's a place to sit down, enjoy the food and the environment..its money worth spending..

Looking for an affordable quick dinner? Look no further than your local takeaways. These burgers are 💯 the chicken isn’t a patty but chicken tenders, the steak is succulent and the fish fillet is fresh. The fries are crisp and not soggy. Friendly service. Defining recommend.

Stopped in here based on the recent recommendations without noticing they were almost all placed by reviewers for whom this was their sole review. My bad.<br/><br/>I ordered one Tarakihi, $3 chips, 6 wontons, 4 mussels and a milkshake.<br/><br/>I've honestly never seen mussels this small. For $1.10, each I expect much better. The wontons weren't even wontons - they were devoid of any pork. I'm guessing this is because... Halal. So vegetables only and overcooked borderline burned. The milkshake wasn't mixed properly - the flavouring was all in one place. The portion of chips was pretty small. The fish was small for $4.50 and I suspect not even the Tarakihi I ordered - for a start a Tarakihi fillet has a vee, like Gurnard. It also didn't split into sections as Tarakihi does and tasted like Hoki.<br/><br/>So it was simply an expensive mistake going here. $17.90 excluding the milkshake and it didn't even fill the plate.

I just wanted to try this, as fish and chips is one of my favourite food! I must say I wasn’t disappointed at all! Very very friendly customer service, by the way I only ordered a Hoki fillet, it was really really hot, fresh and soft food with a very nice crunchy coating, the person behind the counter was very welcoming, I will definitely be going back to this place more than often! Good thing for me it’s near to my work!! Next time will try a combo with the fries! But A+++ for the fish! ❤️. EDIT:<br/><br/>I ordered this time the $33 combo and I must say both the fish and chips were so good! My family loves the sausages as well!

100% Halal food. I visit this place at least once a week. Really enjoy good quality food with nice quantity as well. Fish n chips is their speciality. Would highly recommend this place!

The chips are always nice and golden and never oily, as can shown in the photo. The gentleman that runs the shop is always very polite and one day I will take him up on the option of black pepper instead of salt. Nanas Fish house is the place I go to for my fish and chips .

If you want to try amazing fish and chips give Nanas Fish House in Mt Roskill a try. It's not greasy. The batter on the fish is lite and tasty. Great fresh chips. He makes amazing butter chicken samosas. Service is awesome, I text him my order, he texts me when its ready and always thx me for my custom. 5 star.<br/>

Just went there waisted $50 on food <br/>His batter tasted like dish washing liquid lol my burger patty was chewi almost like a beef jerky and the shell fish was very bad as well only thing good was the samosa ,

I had a fish n chip it’s so tasty and yummy and the customer service was nice I will try all his menu and I will take my family and friends to try all his menu.

Really enjoyed the hot donuts and chicken nuggets. I would like to try out the other items in the menu as well. They look promising and delicious.

Always see this place around when driving past as its very eye catching and finally had the chance to try it today. Definitely wasn’t disappointed today. Decor on the inside is real nice and homey. Customer service is amazing & the food is even better! We had the lamb burger combos with wedges instead of normal chips. He also offered chocolate Lamingtons that were made fresh today which were SO DAMN GOOD ! 🤤🤗

It's one of the best places to have fish and chips and other food's... I recommend this place to all family's and anyone who is wanting to try fresh fish everyday.. The owner is a very kind man who gives his 100% services and has good customer services as well..
