Local friends took me here for dinner. The lamb shank is tender and falling off the bone, but the flavor is just plain, only savory taste and nothing else, which makes it less interesting after a few bits. The seafood and chips are okay, dried fish tasted better than the fried shrimps.

We had our Daughters 21st Birthday. Management would answer any questions i had about the night. Staff were so amazing, always available when needed, food was on time, helped with the music, able to use the television for slide shows. Perfect for a small gathering of approximately 35 people. We were able to decorate the room nice and early, then it was closed to the public.

Came here for a fundraiser pub quiz night and enjoyed the experience. They have a $20 rib night on Mondays and that was pretty good. I enjoyed the fact that it filled me up but didn't make me feel gross like so many other meals at pubs. The quiz was good, though it did run a bit long.

About what I expected and overall it's still feels like an everyday gastropub (i.e. Macs beer bar) that you can find in any suburb, except this one is themed with more of a home lounge vibe from a few tall back chairs to carefully arranged, colour coded book decor. Mains like burgers and tacos get extremely messy but are still good. Shoestring fries are the same old thing. But, to be totally honest, whenever I'm here again someday, I'm going straight for the mozzarella garlic bread starter and maybe just getting two servings of that.

I didn't expect anything fancy available as I'm a vegetarian with special dietary requirement. The waiter was very friendly and helpful, and was back and forth between the kitchen and my table trying to find something I could have from the menu.
Just after I ordered some chips as it's the only thing I could have on the menu, he came back and told me the chef would cook me something special. It turned out to be one of the nicest vegetarian food I have had in a pub/cafe.

Tonight was a first time we'd been to the The Good Home Birkenhead and loved it. Great family atmosphere, as we walked in the staff got the 5 year something to colour in and free wifi for the teen. The food was awesome. Will recommend the char grilled rump, bacon & cheese burger and the the ribs which fell off the bone it was so soft. Kids meals are pretty decent size as well. Had my daughters 18th Birthday celebration at The Good Home and the service I received from start to finish was exceptional. The Managers I dealt with Reece, Jamie and Callum were awesome, they were very accomodating with requests and ensured the night ran smoothly. I ordered several food platters and these went down a treat - the sizes and variety was plenty. I would highly recommend The Good Home if you are looking at a function venue. They have parking but it fills up quickly however there is plenty of parking close by.

I can thoroughly recommend TGH to anyone planning a celebration! We had my son's 21st Birthday bash there on Saturday night. Everything was handled professionally by Callum and his team! Food and drinks were first class. Bar service was friendly and fast.

We decided to try out The Good Home Birkenhead after having a number of great experiences at The Good Home in My Eden. We certainly were not greeted with the same level of warmth and friendly customer service that we always find at Mt Eden, the waitresses stood around chatting as we waited to be shown to a table, my husband had to interupt them and ask for service. After being shown to the table our kids were given a coloring page and pens to keep them entertained which was great.
We decided on our order quickly and we sat waiting as the waitress cleaned tables (It was very quiet and there was no urgency for tables to be cleaned), again my husband had to ask to be served. We hadn't even been offered the opportunity to order drinks. The waitress sighed and seemed annoyed to be interrupted.
The menu catered for everyone nicely and adapting a meal to suit my dietary requirements was no problem at all.
My husband's meal arrived after we had all finished our mains. Luckily the kids were having a sundae or it would have been awkward entertaining 3 kids as he finished his dinner.
The kids really enjoyed their meals and ours were fine.
Overall, not a bad experience but we certainly won't be returning considering the great service and excellent food we can find elsewhere for the same price.

Big space and clean toilet I liked, but I can’t say good thing for meals. Sirloin steak was most shocking meal we have the night. Served with polenta cake and seasonal veggies menu said. 250g sirloin steak was very thin. We belive much less than 250g. Seasonal veggie was one 2cm X 2cm kale. It was just one. This is $30 meal on menu.

Not particularly the best value for money, apparently the manager has never been told that the portion sizes are terrible for the prices. This scotch fillet set me back $30 odd dollars a couple of bits of potato & 5 green beans, not to mention a small portion of mushroom sauce.<br/>Your reaction to my statement was that “oh i’ve never heard that before”. Your food costs must be about 10% . We wont be back for the over priced food.

The staff was very friendly, food came quickly, the portions were good and the environment had character. It had smoking areas and non smoking ones for outdoor sitting which was handy because I didn’t want to smell cigarettes during my lunch time. <br/>The menu is new and has a good collection of different flavours. <br/>I tried the vegetarian options: grilled veggies and my partner had the venison burger which came with the shoe string chips. <br/>Prices a bit high but to be fair they use quality products. Overall a good experience

Was quite looking forward to coming here. Was a little disappointed. Very average. The $50 seafood platter was very average. Plain deep fried fish, some Scollops wrapped in bacon, plain calamari and the mussels had a very odd smell. I don’t think they were very fresh. Not a lot of taste in anything. Very basic and standard food and a bit over priced. Also had a steak. Was his a piece of steak with fries and a salad. Can’t say we would return.

The aioli served with the chips tasted like it had been watered down. A jug of soft drink cost $20 according to the waitress so we decided against that. service was friendly enough though no one asked how our meal was.

On Friday night, I hosted my 21st birthday at The Good Home. I chose this venue, as I've had a great experience every time I've been there in the past. The staff are friendly, on-to-it and make sure you're comfortable and enjoying yourself. When organising my 21st, it was a super simple process. The beer battered fries and their cocktails are incredible.

The Good Home has a comfortable, casual vibe, however the food was mediocre at best. Hubby's steak was so tough he couldn't eat it, he ordered a baked potato but got fried instead & the beetroot, peer & cabbage slaw had no beetroot or pear! However when we mentioned the steak the waitress was quick to react & ordered a new one and was super pleasant about it. So the service made up for the kitchen! Still the prices aren't cheap so if you can't rely on the food being great, I suggest giving it a miss.

Incredibly good food. I really enjoyed the homely feeling you get when walking into the restaurant/bar. I ordered the crispy pork nibbles and chips and they arrived relatively quickly. The pork and the crackling were perfectly cooked and the crackling had that nice crunch to it. Overall really nice.

Has this placed changed hands? We used to regularly frequent this joint and the food was always really good. Recently went back again and was extremely disappointed. Ordered a beef burger and the bun tasted like it had come straight out of the freezer and had been zapped too long in the microwave - dry, tough and tasteless. Have had mixed experiences with The Good Home, but thought I should give it another shot. Glad to say I was surprisingly impressed. The food was tasty and hearty just what I was craving. I had a $10 cocktail and beef burger, both were on point. I would recommend a visit if you are after a reasonably priced drinks and decent pub food.

Very warm and inviting space, it genuinely does feel like a 'home' when you're in there. The staff are super friendly and regularly check on you throughout your time here, one particularly guy (probably the manager) always makes sure he personally has a chat with as many customers as he can. Cocktails are yum! As is the food, so far I've been here maybe a 8 times and had pleasant experiences each time. Burgers are 👍👍👍

Chose The Good Home over 2 other local places tonight as we have enjoyed it before. Waited over 80mins before ANY food arrived. Having a child with us it would have been nice if we had been offered something, anything, a bowl of chips or corn chips even just to keep us from getting hangry! We watched at least 2 other tables close by leave due to the long wait. Were we rewarded for staying ? No. While the friendly waitress did keep apologising for the delay & the food when it eventually arrived was nice, We will certainly think twice about returning.

Such a cool spot, in terms of its decor etc. went for dinner there on a Friday night and found it a bit odd, then turning the lights off and starting the live band, whilst a lot of people were still eating their meals. The service from the waitresses was good, but when it came to pay with a voucher we weren't going to be able to get the $20 left over in voucher form, so we ended up having to fight for the right to get change in another voucher (which didn't end the evening on a high note) food was average. Not very inventive, except the fried chicken entree THEY WERE DELISH!!!! Could do with a revamp of the menu, and a bit more hospitality.

From the outside this place looks so small but you'll be surprised when you walk in to find its massive! Loved how the place is laid out and decorated. We were seated to a table pretty quickly and served by the waitress while it was busy quickly too. Our meals arrived in good time and were really enjoyable! Eaten and drank here a few times, service is average, atmosphere is ok most of the time depending on what you are looking for. Food has been average on a couple of occasions and on one occasion below average, we ordered a tasting plate which was advertised with I think 5 items, we only got 2 and nothing was mentioned when ordered or delivered. When we asked if the other items were coming separate they then said that they didn't have the items so we could maybe order something else aswell to make up for it, so it was rectified in the end. <br/>Scallops wrapped in bacon were very nice.

Lovely spot for a casual bite. Staff are always very pleasant and efficient. We have worked out what we like off the menu a little by trial and error! We have been many times and will continue to be regulars. Absolutely recommend - great improvement on the old noisy pub on yesterday.

We visited on Monday 20 July (aware it was a while ago now). Honestly surprised to see how low the overall experience has dropped since the last couple of times I had been earlier in the year and late last year. Firstly, no one greeted us when we went up to the bar to ask for a table, making it a bit awkward. When we were seated and had chosen what we wanted, we were waiting for at least 25 minutes to have our order taken, with waitresses walking past quite frequently. Water was brought over much later on. I ordered the fish, which I had had before and quite enjoyed it, even though I only received two sauces when it is advertised as four, which was what I had last time. My friend ordered a medium scotch fillet which came out definitely rare. No desserts menus were brought over so we decided to skip it unfortunately. When we went to pay the manager (I assume) hardly spoke to us, busy chatting with a staff member while we did the transaction, didn't ask how it was or anything. While I would like to come back because I have had good experiences before, it was definitely a let down and perhaps the entire staff need to be reviewed.

Great decor and a welcome fire on a chilly day. Staff were friendly and their menu caters for all. Went in with a discount voucher to catch up with a friend. We chose the Tasting Platter for two, fries and crispy chicken. Fairly average across the board, we loved the Arancini balls, very flavoursome, and the chicken nibbles, cooked perfectly. But unfortunately on the opposite end of the scale, the lamb koftas and crispy chicken were a little dry and the fries appeared to have been cooked in cold oil, so more soggy than crispy with watery aioli. Added to that, a very smelly bathroom experience. Not sure I'd return without a discount voucher, I'm afraid.

Went in for one beer, stayed all night! Really great service, i felt like a regular by the end of my first night! Have been back plenty of times since and had great experiences each time. Decor is very cool, very fresh and clean. The food is top notch to! Def worth a stop off if your in the neighborhood!

Me and a friend had arrived at 8pm, went inside and saw it was crowded so we decided to sit outside. We ordered our food and waited...... And waited..... And waited... It soon became 9:45 and we had waited almost 2 hours before food came out. A few of the waiters were rude except for one beautiful young lady who was friendly and apologised for the long wait. The food was good, however.... The attitude of one of the waiters was totally unprofessional and the wait was too long for anyone hungry !

If I could give this place less than 1/5 I would. Hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. It took two hours (no exaggeration) for our meals to arrive (yes the place was full, but 80% of the people there were watching the game and focused on getting drunk and not eating). After 2 and a half hours, our fries had still not arrived so I went to ask about them (the third time I had queried our food that night) and 5 min later they arrived - well, sort of. The waitress stood 5 metres away from us and yelled out "fries?" and made me get up and take them off her as she "couldn't get past" the people who had made a makeshift table between us. I was tempted to take my plates to the kitchen after we finished since apparently I did more work than the staff who were actually being paid to carry plates. Adding to the experience was the delightful chunky vomit right outside the door and the below average food. Fab night overall.

Been here a few times for lunch and I love the decor of this place. Service was always pretty good.<br/>The burgers were massive and came with a big basket of chips. The chips are the chunky kind were weren't my favourite but the burgers were great. They have a variety of food on the menu such as pizza, burgers and large plates.<br/>I liked their small plates menu and if you can't decide what to order, I recommend the tasting platter which has the best from the small plates menu. The pork belly bites, chicken nibbles and salt and pepper squid were yum. If you're in the Birkenhead area, I recommend this place.

The Good Home in Birkenhead has a great atmosphere and bar, which unfortunately does not correlate in its meals.<br/><br/>We have eaten here for dinner twice now and found the same pattern evolving- good drinks, great service, nice starters but mains leave a bit to be desired.<br/><br/>First visit we just had mains- I had steak and partner had a chicken burger. The Good Home does not use the best quality cuts of meats, as we found both our meat portions fatty, and the chicken was a bit pink.<br/><br/>The second visit we started with chunky fries and cheesy garlic bread, both which proved great choices. I got a chicken cranberry pizza (burnt around the edges) and partner got Satay Beef Salad, which she found again to be of poor quality for what we paid. Service was good- very fast and friendly.<br/><br/>Overall- Come here for a drink and snacks (the chunky fries are amazing) but there are a lot better places to eat in Birkenhead if you're after a main meal.

Came here last night for a casual birthday meal. You'll find the typical pub grub on the menu - steaks, burgers, pizza, roasts, ribs, fish n chips. The guys were kept happy with large portions of food, whereas us girls felt that although the meals were impressive looking the food was a bit bland tasting. We discussed that although we might come back for a drink the food wouldn't be the drawcard.On a positive, the look of the pub is quite a nice space. We sat at the front of the bar, which would be very suitable for large groups of people. There were comfy scatter cushions and light blankets, which I thought was a nice touch especially when the weather gets cooler. The staff are perhaps a bit too attentive. Food and drinks were brought out to our table by a different staff member each time. This resulted in being asked by each individual staff member if everything was okay. It started to get a little annoying by the end - they are very service orientated, and I appreciated it, but it would be a nicer experience if they could balance this out a bit? The waitress was very pleasant, however she smelt very strongly of deep-heat (sorry for being nitpicky!) and this was a little bit off-putting.

Been here a few times and love the interior, love the service staff and the food is really delicious - you can get small plates or large plates depending on what you feel like. Really recommend the roast chicken! The only problem I had with this place was the waiting time for the food! Came at a time it was quite busy and the food took ages to come out and I thought it was because of the rush of people but came again when the place was virtually empty and it still took close to 45 minutes to come out.

The Good Home never fails to put on a great feed with good atmosphere - had dinner with my partner, she had the Al's Fish and Chips and I had the Bacon Chicken and Avo, we shared the Squid Rings as a starter. Squid rings were awesome, great panko and dips. My burger was spot on and my partners FandC was impressive. Great portion sizes and the chips are the best around. Highly recommended.

15 of us had Sunday lunch here on the 15th February. I liked this place when it was the Slipp Inn but since the re-furb it is even nicer now. The food is as good as ever but prices have risen a tad since last year I think but not so high as to deter me going again. Attentive and prompt service, with a smile....overall, a very positive experience.

Positive: Drinks are a good price, and the ambience is much improved over their previous avatar as 'Slipp Inn'. Love their squid rings and onion rings<br/>Negatives: Their other meals are overpriced for the quantity and quality: e.g. their garlic bread is 3 bits of bread with roasted garlic for $6!!! <br/>I will go back for drinks, the squid rings and for specials nights, but wouldnt recommend otherwise.

Waitress placed the empty plates ready for serving our LUNCH and noticed caked on food and 'cleaned off' with her fingernails and walked away. Didn't know it at the time but the other half who came in about 20 minutes after me order a drink from the bar (this is midday) and placed her purse into a puddle of cider. The not so helpful MANAGER rinsed a cloth and handed it to my fiancé to clean the area (this is next to the till) and her handbag. (3 bar staff and 5 patrons???) Who should clean this not the person that just walked in.Been here 4-5 times in the last 2 months and the food is great BUT always noticed the staff bickering about the manager behind his back in the smoking area. He comes across as a lazy so and so-very arrogant this is the last time for us. Pity as it's been done up nice and a nice menu ...

As the only real kiwi style restaurant in highbury i was looking forward to a good pub meal at the good home. I was surprised how nice the place was. It has been recentlt renovated and looks amazing inside.<br/><br/>We ordered the ribs and a beer which was on special for $22 and i got the steak and mushrooms which is $28.<br/><br/>The ribs were good they come with delish fries and plenty of sauce. The sauce was a bit sweet for me but for the price was very reasonable.<br/><br/>The steak was average at best. The meal comes with seasonable veges which consist of kumera and a peice of parsnip. Most of the kumera and the parsnip were undercooked (like hard and crunchy). The steak and sauce were ok i guess but just kind of bland and nothing special.<br/><br/>Service was good and the atmosphere was good. We will be back but wont try the steak!

This is a great spot! It is an excellent addition to the Birkenhead eating scene which seems to have every nationality represented except some good Kiwi food, with a relaxed bar feel as well. I went here with a mate for a couple of beers and a meal. I'm looking forward to going back as soon as I can. The staff were friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome, like a good home. The meal was very nice, I had a burger and chips. At first it appeared a bit small but as I got eating, it was the perfect size, no leftovers and not left wanting. Great beer selection for a place this size. Would highly recommend, and waiting to go back!!
