One of the best fish and chips I haven't had for a long while. Pork belly pop corn is a must try🍿. Very friendly staff and Andy the dog. Kids loved it. If you are here on Waiheke island. Make sure you pay them a visit.

The deck has stunning views with great service from the team. As for the food, the fish and chips were good and filling, the fish burger was very tasty but the star of the show was the squid dish. Absolutely delicious with a crisp flavourful batter and soft tender squid that is so difficult to come by. Will definitely be back in future.

Excellent fish and chips in terms of flavor and portions plus a gorgeous view! Love that they offered a GF option with the fish grilled, and the slaw was the perfect balance to the fish and fries saltiness.

We really loved the food here on our visit to Waiheke! The staff were very great with seating us quickly. The food was delicious too! I had the fish tacos-super fresh. They missed out one food item we ordered but overall the service was great. Will be back!

Our group of 23 showed up with no booking as we got a last minute recommendation from our shuttle driver to have lunch here. The staff/owners were extremely accommodating and helped us join tables, organise a large order and brought the food out very quickly! Everyone loved their fish and chips. The fish was super fresh, the chips were yummy and the side slaw complimented the fish and tartare so well! The place is a prime spot, tucked down some stairs on the main strip and opening up to a gorgeous view of the beach! We felt very lucky to have gotten a recommendation for here and even luckier at how great the service and food was, even so last minute! It's also about a 15-20 minute walk to Matiatia Ferries along a very scenic stretch of road. Super convenient! Great way to finish up our day trip to Waiheke Island.

Great fish and chips. Loved the portion of the basket. DF slaw was excellent. Wish I could take some home. Cashier/bartender(possibly owners) were excellent too! Andy was our favorite though!

The best fish and chips in Waiheke! we got the fish crumbed and it is so yummy, we love it, even my son can’t stop eating 😄..affordable and fresh.. with a wonderful scenery overlooking the ocean is a bonus to make your lunch or dinner exceptional.. Highly recommended!

One of my favourite places on Waiheke! So many delicious fresh seafood options and the grilled steak to die for! Fish/Hotdog & chippies for the kids. Great drink selection! Amazing Seaviews!

Great fish tacos and calamari

Amazing food and great service. I think that's the first time I've had a steak burger/sandwich where the steak was actually cooked like steak! Thank you for a nice meal.

If you’re after a good burger, this place is Excellent! Surveyed the competition and ended up here. Ordered cheeseburgers, an egg burger and grilled schnapper, kumera chips and potato chips. Everything was excellent: burgers were tasty, well seasoned, real meat patties with a proper serving of crispy cheese! Chips were cooked in fresh oil, fish cooked perfectly. Add the view over Oneroa and the beer on tap, and you couldn’t really ask for more! Recommended.

We ordered take away. Fish was way too greasy. And my friend ordered cheese burger and there was no cheese. Obviously we didn’t realise until we take it back to our Bach and eat it

Was so shocked by the amazing food we had! It was top quality fish n Chips. The fish batter was a beer better and as my husband said "best fish I've ever had" it truly was!! We enjoyed it. Seating was annoying. We stopped for lunch and their outside seating options are old and limited. I noticed they were putting in glass railing but this was behind a big wooden baracade. Once this is done and they get their seating sorted it will be top of our list to go back!<br/><br/>Very good! :)

Nice food...when it finally arrived. Shame the gentleman working the grill had such bad customer service. With the place closing next door they’ve obviously copped more service but can’t cope with the uptake. Refunding my battered sausage, probably should’ve refunded the whole order #fushnfuming

Definitely one of the best places to have the freshest fish and chips! Coupled with amazing views and friend staff, I would recommend this place as one of the go-to places when you're in waiheke!

We ordered fish (snapper) and chips when my partner and I were there. It was a typical fish and chips that you can order else where, nothing too special about it. What we loved is the stunning beach view we had while eating. The friendly staff and cozy ambiance during the winter season were plus points.

For a cheap and filling lunch, this is the place to go. We got two snapper burgers at $15 each and got free chips along with it. The grilled snapper is cooked to perfection and the bun was so soft and fresh. Definitely worth it.

Fantastic location over looking the water. Fresh snapper was delicious. My husband had a huge beef burger for $10. They even put beetroot on it an Aussie favourite. I washed it down with Organic Cola from NZ which was great. Great cheap eat. Friendly staff. I would definitely eat here again

No problem with the place just that it's now working to winter hours and still publish that it's open on Monday. Zomato needs to be informed of hrs.

Nice location and awesome views! The burgers and chips looked so good so we choose to sit and eat here. The burgers were pretty well priced for how huge they were and individually most of the ingredients were okay but they just lacked any flavour all together. The relish was pretty yuck actually and there were no other sauce which I feel is essential to a good burger - a good homemade relish and aioli or something. The chips were great but again supermarket pouches of sauce... not too hard to make your own and jar it. Fish looked and smelt good from the other tables. Bit underwhelming really.

Stunning views with magnificent food and service and a cheeky bonus that you can enjoy a drink to go down with the lovely meal. Definitely my takeaway / dine in fish and chips choice on the island. Will be returning on my next trip to waiheke! Thanks guys 🙂

We wanted something quick and easy, and out of the three locals we asked for recommendations, two suggested this place. It is a bit bare and functional but my fish burger was pretty fantastic. Would definitely come back for it again. You also have some views over the water, and on either side are some cool bars. I recommend popping in next door to the stylish Aperitivo for a relaxing Aperol spritzer to freshen up the taste buds before your meal!

After wondering around Onero as our first stop on Waiheke Island my cousin mentioned she was feeling peckish at 11am. After visiting the beautiful beach we walked along Ocean View road in the rain we found The Local fish n shop yayyy.<br/><br/>I ordered the Snapper for $10 an extra 50 cents crumbed (really!!), my cousin finally got her Hoki fish $6. We shared the chips $4 and the Kumari chips $8 (was basically expensive sweet potato chips) along with a fish burger washed down with a glass of local Man O War sauvy b.<br/>However we were charged extra for tomato sauce, tartare and lemon.<br/><br/>And then as part of the house keeping rules had to clean up after ourselves ??!!<br/>Overall it was a nice restaurant and if the day was nicer had beautiful  views.

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience..the staff was unfriendly. On the top of that we were yelled at in public for going towards the washroom. <br/><br/>the staff could have pointed out politely if there was any issue..the whole episode was a damper to an otherwise charming Waiheke..<br/><br/>The food which was undoubtedly rich and savoury and was meant to be enjoyed with the beautiful location was the last thing on our minds after hearing such harsh and coarse words..<br/>

Best fish and chip shop on Waiheke, great food and great service 10/10. Would 100 % recommend to every one who want to try it out coolant find a better place.

This place offers a nice view by the deck. <br/>We ordered:<br/><br/>The snapper burger: it was delicious!<br/>The cheese burger: wow sooo much cheese! The chutney used in this burger tasted a bit funny but it was still good.<br/>Calamari: crispy batter and tasted good.<br/><br/>

I went there with my boyfriend and we ordered a vegeburger and a grilled snapper. I was so disapointed about the service. A lady was busy sweeping and no one take the order so we have to wait for them though  we are the only customer waiting to order.<br/>When my bf opened his snapper, we were shocked. I wonder how weight is 200g of fish fillet- only 2 very small pieces and I paid $14 for that. Also, the Vegeburger, the pattie is made of potatoes with carrot and beans. As a salad topping ,only a small pice of tomato and a pices of beetroot, the bread is really dry and I paid $10 for that. <br/>So disappointing! It totally ruined an otherwise brilliant day!

Best burger, pineapple fritter I've ever tasted. Also the cheapest I've found in Waiheke for the quantity it served. Would definitely recommend. 10/10

A beautiful little place located right in the center of Oneroa village that sells delicious burgers. We travel to Waiheke often and never miss the chance to get our favourite lunch meal that we crave so much when we are back in Auckland. The owners there are always so welcoming and the view is stunning. Our recommendation is the awesome $12 Egg Burger that fills our tummys! Although this is our favourite we have also tried the fish and chips and we must say it definitely is at the same level of goodness! We cant wait to visit again! :D<br/><br/>By Hippo

Been here twice in nine months. Both times great service, quick, friendly and quality food. Fabulous view. Best fish burger so far, ciabatta type bun, lime mayo, caramelized onion, beetroot, fancy lettuce, tomato and choice of battered or crumbed fish. It is a generous serving. Great place, Thank you!

Went here for a quick dinner. I got the fish burger and the kumara chips. They were both delicious. I couldn't finish the burger. And there us enough chips to be shared between two people. Would definitely go back to try the other burgers

The best fish and chips on the Island. The freshly caught battered snapper is so fresh and the batter so crispy. It's worth the extra investment to get better quality.

The Local is the absolute best fish n chip shop on the Waiheke if not the rest of NZ!! The quality of the food is cooked and tastes to perfection. The staff are very friendly and hospitable. That probably explains why they are so busy all the time. Also did I mention they have some of the vest views on the island?

Went over to Waiheke recently on a beautiful day in Auckland city, noticed the awesome deck at the new spot The Local and popped in for some lunch and a beer. I got the fish burger and my friend got the squid. Both were awesome, I reckon you judge a fish and chip shop on the fish burger and this was really the best I've had. Such an awesome set up at The Local, you can enjoy a beer from the tap with some classic fish and chips with a gourmet twist. If your on Waiheke you have to pop in. There is also a very friendly cockatoo called Bobby who will keep you company while you eat. Five stars from me.

Thanks to The Local for the wonderful afternoon. Topping off my trip to Waiheke with great food and service, will definitely be bringing the whole family to enjoy next time. 5 stars all round.

I have been a frequent visitor to Waiheke Island for the past several years and had been underwhelmed by the lackluster fish and chips on offer, especially for such a beautiful, coastal paradise. The Local owners obviously saw an opportunity to satisfy both Waiheke residents and townies alike by offering high quality fish, chips and gourmet burgers, not to mention a view that few restaurants on the rock can match. I ordered the cheesburger and was pleasantly surprised to see it presented within a ciabatta bun, crispy on the outside while soft and billowy on the inside. High quality beef smothered with unctuous melted cheese and a fresh salad really elevated the burger to levels previously unseen on this tiny utopia. My partner ordered the snapper and had similar praise, verch straight from the sea and paired perfectly with some crispy fries. If you can overcome the logistics of getting to Waiheke, I'd urge you to swing by The Local for a cold beer, delicious burger and a view that will keep you coming back. See you soon guys!

The best fish burger i've had all summer!!<br/><br/>I was very pleased when I saw there was Tiger beer on tap.. ended up having a few too many as my wife and I couldn't handle leaving the majestic coastal views that surround the outdoor dining area. Great service and amazing kai !!

. Arrived on the island after the airport had lost our bags so as you could imagine, stress levels were high. Our friends who we were staying with were out on their boat so we had several hours to kill, and boy did we ever. Recommended by a small local boy who later turned out to be the son of the owner, we were absolutely spoiled by our lovely hosts. We ordered the snapper, calamari and fries and fell instantly in love with the crunchieness of the fries ( crunchie outside and mashie on the inside) and the freshness of the fish. The view is to die for and they had such cute salt shakers.Such a charm. We went back twice with our friends while we were on the island and will definitely be back. Cheers team
