Review Cassette Nine - Auckland

The ambience of this place was perfect holding a private room with a bar tender. The club manager was super super helpful, and the bar manager was extremely flexible and accommodating with all of our requests. The guests loved the venue and the drinks, which was the icing on the cake. A big thanks to the staff who were very helpful. We are very grateful to you guys as we couldn’t have asked for more to make my 21st birthday party a more memorable one!

The teapots are very fun to order, and fun to share. The music is a not really my taste, but it is a fun vibe. Toilets are very clean, four stalls in the females toliet. Service is quick for a club/bar. Don't expect snacks though, ot tales over 30 mins after 9pm. Is a little difficult to see the entrance on the street.

Hip little spot with a great balcony and gorgeous, friendly and helpful staff. They have a pub dog 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 and a wide selection of drinks. I found the teapot cocktails a bit too sweet for my palate but I think they are made to share as shots given the presentation. Worth a visit! (FYI no disabled access)

dope time, drinks were priced perfectly and tasted amazing

Had a great night here

There was a fee to gain entry into the club but I can't remember how much. Only been here once but this place had a great atmosphere and a great live performance. They serve cocktails in TEAPOTS!! That's epic. Only thing I will say is that the floors and seats were a bit wet in some places. FYI they do also serve food here so be sure to soak up your alcohol with some fries, I'd come here again :))

Cassette Nine will be my hangout spot whenever I am in New Zealand. My friends and I walked past looking for a place to eat. It was after 9pm so most restaurants were no longer serving food. Moses, the bouncer, gave us some food options then began talking about the establishment, the DJs, the Tuesday international visitors raffle (yes they raffle off excursions and other prizes so visitors so can get to experience NZ for free), etc... we left to find food but returned to check it out. The music was great and we danced the night away. If you go tell Moses we sent you 😊

Iconic venue. The staff were super friendly. The bouncers were pretty strict with ID's so make sure you take one with you. Bob's your uncle is a teapot, a must try.

Funky and cool. Nice little hole in the wall in Auckland. Service was fine but nothing to write home about. We only stayed for one drink before heading out for dinner elsewhere...

2nd time there and the vibe is absolutely amazing. The drinks and food are wonderful. Sound system rocking and the staff lovely! Fun seasonal events and art, can this get any better?

I love those teapots so much. Best drinks ever and best bar ever, and I've worked/been at a few in Ponsonby as well.

Such a cool old school bar with the bifgest disko light I have ever seen! The glass of wine I ordered was very generous;)

The teapots here are really good and tasty. There is quite a large variety of drinks and food. The food is really yum. There is a good seating area but also space to dance later on in the night. The staff are always friendly. There is often live music on here. Lots of fun times have been had here.

This bar is really unique. They serve all their alcohol in teapots and the bartenders are really friendly. The ambience is really good...good lighting and colour scheme. It is nice and quiet on the weekdays and a raging party on the weekend. I recommend it for anyone looking for a sick night on the town.

It's a hit and miss, if you're after some of the finest up and coming live music this is the place to go! However, gigs only happen irregularly, make sure to check on Facebook whether there are any events on. There will definitely be music here every night, just not live music all the time.

Nice place, nice music. Although my jacket was stolen and when I notified the security staff about the event, they didn't seem to care at all. So watch out your belongings.
David David
The place is marvellous, house clubbers, uni students, backpackers, the place is hip and the place to be!

Just had a 21st of over 40 people here last week. Excellent experience from start to finish! :) Really cool vibes in the backbar, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The restaurant manager was super experienced (shoutout to Eve!), organised the entire menu so everything was sorted, and was there throughout the night to help with anything that cropped up. Overwhelmingly positive feedback on the food and drink from the guests- they're not exaggerating about the crispy chicken. Overall awesome venue for birthdays/other celebrations!

Went over to ask for some water to sober up and was given 2 middle fingers by a staff member, left so confused and pissed off by the service that I had to leave the club to calm down. Incredibly rude and the worst service I’ve ever experienced. All I wanted was to sober up which is what bars are legally required to provide options for.

Great atmosphere, and the staff are awesome. Teapots are great value(can I suggest the Long Island iced tea) and the crispy chicken is mouthwatering. Love this place ❤️️

Dear future attendees of this establishment, Come to cassette if you fancy a classy beverage in the form of teapot shots, the most sincere hospitality from staff, and good times on a stage. Make sure to appreciate the fine decor of denim walls and feline creatures on the ceiling of the womens bathroom. DO NOT attempt to enter establishment through roof balcony. For a refreshing tobacco outdoor experience DO check out the roof balcony. Includes a dashing view of the one and only vulcan lane. Always be friendly to the bouncers and bartenders who work hard to keep this establishment bumpin. Cheers, A consumer of too many teapots

I have been to cassette many times, some nights are better than others but I really like it. Has a comfortable but upbeat vibe. Last night was absolutely bangin, drum and bass was on point. Well done.

Great place, awesome ambiance and cool hiphop / soul music vibe

Excellent venue & great friendly staff... before Tomfoolery I was looking around at all the Awesomeness! Just a cool cozy place! Will be looking for more events to come and hang out at! Thanks!!!

Awesome venue; great music, amazing drinks and the staff will go above and beyond for you! Big shout out to Eve for being phenomenal; she went the extra mile for me last week, absolutely awesome service- other venues could take so many learnings from here! So much love for this gem !!

Abusive security on mad power trips, won't be coming back that's for sure.

Worst place in Auckland. All the bowsers are together, and if you know one of them, you're fine. Otherwise, you're just being kick out because you're not or maybe because you don't suck the bowser's dick. I've been kick out tonight because I tried to "help my friend" but her answer was just a hit in my face. So, I've been kicked out because I tried to help her. Beautiful. Lovely. Thank you and welcome to new zeland.

Wow. What a venue. If you’re looking for a moose or some traaaansitions to doink your donkey to you’ve come to the right place! Oh and why not get a lion brown while you’re at it. Ridiculous. 2/7 stars

Lovely staff, great bar meals, yummy drinks and Beats by Bingo....what more could you ask for!

Awesome, Cool dance music, not too crowded smoking area sometimes, Girls talk to you in the smoking area, or politely tell you to go away, unlike other bars, its just F off, after your first word (umm i was just asking you for a lighter). I even saw the grin reaper dancing there on Saturday, he has some moves... people are polite when they bump into you, you can laugh at little girls trying to get in the door from the smoking area, (haha chloe) and the bouncers, will never ask you for ID once they thrown you out that one first time from when i was too wasted, next week was like yip i remember i threw u out last week, ive seen your id from last week and remember you (its always a good idea to get acquitted by the bouncers, when you choose your local drinking spot) they have tastey water too, to wash down your jim beams, staff look after you, have your best interests at heart.

Had the best time ever seeing Unchained XL and the other artists perform. Great vibe and great times

So much better than the seedier bars/clubs in this area, so pretty inside and such a refreshingly different and indie energy. Felt really safe with multiple people checking up on people alone, and security aware and stationed clearly. Such a great vibe, one of my favourite places in auckland

Loved the vibe here !! Such a lovely and cozy place. Packed club and music was lit. Enjoyed being here and for sure will be back here.
Cheers
The Poor Foodie
Nice environment and good place for a drink!
Didn’t order finger food but just beer and whisky and the price was quite reasonable.
Really like the interior setting :)

Always a nice visit with friends, the teapots are like roulette - you don't know what you'll love (or revolt - rarely). Atmosphere is great especially when there's a good band on. It can be a victim of its own success and it can be hard to find seating sometimes, but that's a good problem to have.
Daphne Margarette
Great drinks and fabulous staff service. Wish it could have been better if there's a place that's a bit private and not too noisy. Service is okay.
Jessica
One of my favourite placest to go for drinks! Their teapots are so tasty and very easy to drink. Atmosphere is always great and good music to if you feel going getting on the floor for a dance! Defiantly recommended.

Such a cool place! Had my 21st celebration here in the backbar (there were 40 people+, space wise very comfortable). Organizing the event was a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish- there wasn't much to do, the restaurant manager had everything sorted with the menu (thanks Eve!) and was super friendly and helpful. The guests raved over the food. I loved the crispy chicken (even better than they say). The prawns, squid, polenta chips, meatballs, arancini balls, beef sliders were also fantastic. The signature teapots are cute and fun. The bar and restaurant staff were efficient and very approachable. It does get a bit hot as the kitchen (and your own private bar!!) is in the back bar (I was fine, some of my friends though it was hot), but you can go out into the main bar for a breather/order the signature teapot cocktails. Overall highly recommend for your own event or just a night out- great fun, food and drink!

I love this place everytime i visit; was recommended by few friends.

Quite popular for drinks in tea pots, cocktails and nibbles and ofcoarse live bands on weekends.

Pretty cool and chilled place and ambience. Located on. Vulcan lane in Auckland city centre.

It has got street side balcony seatings. We find it really good and refreshing.

I love there drink tea pots and nibbles.

Came here for dinner and I really enjoyed everything about this place.

From the minute I walked up the stairs into the restaurant I loved the ambience. It's a very cosy and intimate place to have dinner or a quiet drink. The whole place has this lovely mood lighting, enhanced by the candle lights. They have lovely booths to sit in if you want something more private.

The food was lovely and arrived in big portions. The burgers a huge and are beautifully presented on wooden boards. Tasty, well cooked and the desserts are equally large in size.

Service was warm and friendly.

Went with a friend. Used to be a great hangout, however the quality of service/food/drinks seem to have dropped recently. Finger food bland, too oily and feels pricey for what is offered. Cocktails were also of average quality. The only highlight was the balcony area which has a great view of the busy CBD streets.

Probably won't return again seeing that there are so many other great bars/eateries in Auckland CBD.

Went last night and they had a deal "3 Jager bombs for $20". I thought, sweet deal! My friends and I can buy a round each so I brought the first one. The cups she brought out were of the smaller size but no probs for $20. Then I watched her put the Jager in, then the red bull. They were half full when she gave me the eftpos so I thought shed finish filling them up while I was paying. Long story short, I carried the 3 glasses back to my table and poured 2 cups into the other one with no leftovers. Essentially paid $20 for 1 Jager bomb. Well over priced.

A trip down the memory lane. When Cassette Nine first opened, it was one of the coolest places to go as uni students, to hang out with a few cocktail shots from its famous teapots and dance all night long. M and I would head out on Tuesday nights on more than several occasions, and dance to indie tunes with that lesbian chick, no assignments or tests worries allowed. It's definitely not the same place any more, and no longer has the same appeals as to our younger selves. Still, ah, the memories.

Love this place! We popped in on a Friday evening to get something to quench the thirst and were pleasantly surprised!
First off I love the ambiance of this place! It's funky and energetic with very cool vibes. The location too is perfect as Vulcan lane is always brimming with people making it a lively setting. The outdoor setting too is q lovely place to enjoy your drinks and watch the world go by.
Can't say much about food as we only had fries which were of a decent proportion and quite tasty. The cocktails however were really nice and well made.
Love this place.
Great food. Staff are amazing, always having a laugh. Those teapots are something else!
This place really needs to be check out!

Had dinner here tonight- restaurant month special ($25 for 3 courses with wine). First disappointed that they were out of desserts except icecream- we went there at 7!!! How do you run out of dessert at 7 on a Saturday night???? Anywho, turned out to be for the best- they were nice enough to allow me to have another drink instead of dessert - and I was so full that I couldn't finish my main!!! Liked the starter (basically arancini balls), 4 per portion. I then had the fish and chips for my main- huge portion of good chips which I couldn't finish.

All in all- this place is good value for money, and I love the decor, the music and the service was good. Food was good - not amazing.

We found ourselves climbing up the stairs to Cassette Nine on a Friday night, curious and hungry.

The place has personality with a spunky vibe and decor to match. Service was great- chatty, friendly, warm and we felt at ease instantly. Patrons were a mix of students, professionals, travellers who all seemed like they were having a good time.

Prompted by the menu, we went for the famously good fried chicken, vegetarian chimichanga and beef burger. Cassette Nine's chicken lived up to its name- crispy, juicy and so addictive that we could have eaten many more servings. The chimichanga had great flavours and textures, and was toasted instead of deep fried, making it a nice, light option. The burger was big, and came with a side of fresh salad and hand cut fries. A generously sized, tasty beef patty and serving of crispy bacon made us happy diners.

It was a great combination of food, in a fun atmosphere for a great price. We are planning to go back for some cheesecake which the waitress highly recommended- we didn't quite have room this time!

Amazing ribs, great burgers, crispy chicken and honey soy chicken to make your head bang up. If you assume c9 is only a raving club then get along and be very surprised indeed.

I almost always only come here for their brilliant tea pots. You'll be hard-pressed to find a place with the similar offering here in Auckland. So that makes it really unique. The place has a great atmosphere, and it is very lively when you're looking for a great late night out in town. They have good live music, albeit a little too loud to carry out a full blown conversation.
The fact that it's lively attracts a lot of people and make cause problems trying to find a seat here. But they have great outdoor seating on the balcony which looks out to Vulcan Lane which is nice. The crowd is mostly young, with a few seedy characters to be expected. But I definitely recommend coming here just to try their teapot cocktails.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found Cassette 9. I was walking around town with a friend looking for a place to eat with a bit of atmosphere when we saw the balcony with coloured lights enticing us inside.
After walking up the stairs, we walked into a room full of oddities and curios, friendly staff and the best damn alt/indie electronica playlist I'd heard in a bar/restaurant for ages - and one that could easily appeal to all ages.
The food was brilliant, I was a bit more fussy as I required a vegetarian option - but even then this course was not at all substandard.
All in all, Cassette 9 should definitely be on anyone's list who wants to try something a little alternative and creative, without compromising service or cost-effectiveness.
5 stars.

Nice out on the balcony. Everything is so expensive though. Both food and drinks are so over priced. Staff are polite when they can be bothered - and efficiency does not exist at this place. Will not be going back and have told friends to stay away.

Who knew cassette did food! been here heaps at night time but ended up heading in for early drinks last Friday. The place was busy but we still managed to get a table. The food is cheap as so we were real surprised at how good it is! I got a MASSIVE chicken burger that was hands down the best I've tasted and my mate got a ruben sandwich. Never heard of it before but delicious and a total bargain.. Turns out they do good deals on chicken wings and other stuff too so will definitely go back. Sweet spot and the staff are just as friendly and cool by day as they are at night.

I went in the evening and had a pizza - the ham on it looked and tasted like dog meat, not real ham. The rest of the pizza was very ordinary. I tasted some of my friend's seafood platter which was OK. I was looking forward to a dessert afterwards but there wasn't any. Best to go for a drink rather than for the food.

Went in for lunch last week and had a great time. Real friendly staff and a sweet $12 lunch menu. Lots of delicious Italian treats on the menu, we had Garlic bread, smoked turkey waldorf and a prawn linguine. The garlic bread is amazing. The interior is really well designed and little touches like flowers on the tables really make the place. Keen to get in and give it a try for a few drinks soon

Small, cute, lively, great bands if you go on a good night! A bit too small, but that makes it nice for a small party of friends - favourite: Purple haze tea pot! Three of those will do you well! Great margharita pizza's too

Cassette Nine is situated on Vulcan Lane which has a lot of pubs open till late in night therefore the street is usually brimming with people on Fridays and Saturdays. My friend and I wanted to go to the Belgian cafe on the opposite side of the street but when there was no space available, decided to try Cassette Nine.

The place is extremely lively at night with a lot of people on the dance floor which others enjoying their drinks at the booths. It has a pretty good outdoor seating area which is a delight for all smokers. The staff is friendly and the bar tender was kind enough to keep my credit card safe when I left it at the counter by mistake. The service at the bar is quick; can't say about the food because we did not order anything to eat. Overall, a nice place to go on a Friday to Saturday night if you want to have a good time.
