Review Daruma Sushi-go-round Botany - Auckland

Sophia Scanlan
Nice small cosy place, friendly staff and nice menu options. Tried the Prawn Udon soup which was nice. Didn’t seem nearly as much variety compared to Sylvia Park, however they did have a lot more drinks to chose from and other snacks and ice creams for purchase. Would try it again, but wouldn’t chose it over other branches.

Sushi train a fun experience, nice food. Expensive though, cost is X2 just buying the same elsewhere without the train. Small servings for the price but fresh. Pricing is by the colour of the plate

kid friendly and they have good kid's meal options,my kids have so much fun here food is good prawn tempura udon is so yum

Family-friendly, kids love it here! Good mix of booth seating and sitting up at the high counter. So much fun and great variety, definitely more expensive than traditional sushi shops but nice for something different. The pork ramen (hot noodles) came in a very small bowl and cost $7.80 which we thought was a bit much, especially as there was only one tiny piece of pork in the entire bowl! 🍱🥢 But apart from that this is a nice place.

First time visiting the Botany branch. Food was good albeit a little pricey - paying for the novelty I guess. The staff there didn't offer us any water, but other than that their service and communication was good.

Great place for a bite. Booths can fit around 6 adults each. A novelty for the kids as they watch and collect the dishes they want to eat. There are some items you can order off the menu as well if you aren't keen on the sushi train. The kids meals are reasonable priced.

Beautiful sushi and super friendly staff! Recommended to all

I've been here twice. This time I find they offer some new shellfish sushi and I like shellfish so much! The sushi are so fresh and tasty even without dip. The staff are so nice! So far, here is my favorite sushi shop in Auckland! Highly recommended!

Pricey. However there are so very few Sushi Trains in Auckland that Daruma is comparatively ok. Some dishes are quite delicious, and there is a decent range both on the train and additional menus you can order from. Note: Be prepared to spend at least $25+ per person if you're wanting more than just a light snack.

Sushi Train in Botany, but they also serve other options such as Ramen, Udon and Sashimi you can order. Kids Train meal is cool for the younger ones. The sushi tastes fresh and price is dependent on the plate colour. No reservations, walk-in only. Booth seats only fit 6 people max. The takeaway sushi platters seems like good value for money

I personally think that this place is one of the best sushi trains there is. Service is always good every time we visit. Some days I do find that there are more variety of plates although I'm not sure what the factor is since we always usually come here 11:30-12:30pm. We also order a few dishes from the menu -mostly ramen- which comes in a small bowl (pretty good for taste testing between a few people). 3 or more people get offered booths otherwise you sit side by side on the other side of the train.

Best sushi go around/ train we've ever had!!! Very popular with a sign-in waiting list. Friendly staff and amazing food!!! So much fresh fish and different varieties of seafood as well as top quality meats. Booths for larger groups and barstools for direct access sitting. Highly recommend eating here for top quality food and service, but be prepared to wait at mealtimes as its popular!

We bought a platter from there at a decent price! It was definitely fresh and very good. The presentation was exactly as the photo showed on the menu brochure which look really appealing when lay it out. They gave us a set time to pick up we ordered around 2pm and the sushi was ready by 2:45 so that was not to bad considering how busy the restaurant is on a daily basis. The staff were lovely, always around when you need something and constantly asking if we would like anything else. I would definitely recommend this place for a cute little lunch date or a work meeting as the environment is very ambient nothing extravagant going on.

A great place for kids to enjoy their meal. They could sit there and watch the train goes by whole day. Tasty food and fun environment. Basically love every dishes there. But we avoid using their toilet as it was quite smelly…… It would be much better if they didn’t have to share the toilet with the shop next door.

Really nice spot - large variety of sushi plates to choose from including plain old 'fried chips' option. It did take a little while to have some options replenished - but it was a busy night. Had an enjoyable evening and would definitely reccommend for a quick grab and go.

Sushi train has so much variety with very delicious items. Fresh ingredients and a reasonable price per plate. Staff are also kind and attentive to our needs.

Food - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5
Service - 4/5

I try to pop in to this small little conveyor belt sushi and ramen place every time I go to Oceanz next door to stock up on seafood.

Like:
1. The variety on their sushi conveyor belt - they have small portions about $5 each and a good selection of half bowl ramens and udons at $6.80 onwards so you don’t over stuff yourself with carbs

2. The quality of the sushi and sashimi is so but it you are after a quick Japanese fix - this hits the spot.

3. They have kids platters called a train plate that start at $6 with a drink, sushi and a small noodle or rice

4. They also own the Daruma ramen noodle chain which has five outlets in Auckland and a second conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Sylvia park opening soon.

5. Good selection of reasonably priced Japanese soft drinks and liquors and mini sized desserts

Their sushi is fresh and tasty. Their pork ramen is enough to fill your tummy with enough space for a couple of plates of sushi. It's quite expensive for what it is if you're not watching what you get and the takeaway ones look much smaller than if you were to dine in and not as much sauce. But staff is always friendly
Brandon Huang
Nothing that stands out about the sushi here. Definitely caters to the western palate and sensibilities, but the food is not bad by any means, just not impressive. The tuna was strangely grey, but the salmon belly was good, and everything else was decent. Not bad for a casual lunch, albeit a bit pricey.

Overall: 6.5/10

I got a few plates of sushi, a mini Spicy Chilli Pork Ramen and a Japanese low alcohol fruit drink. They were all very delicious but the bill was $60. Wasn't expecting the bill to be this expensive, but I reckon the food was worth the price.

I've visited this place before, so today I decided to review it. There is a big range of sushi, sashimi and desserts, including tiramisu chocolate mousse, and cream puffs. My favourite sushi was the teriyaki chicken sushi. The staff are very friendly.

Great place to visit and eat good sushi. But be AWARE .. to take your time and eat to enjoy Do Not get caught up in the excitement of the conveyer belt. This can easily make the difference of a expensive meal to a very expensive meal :) Its a good casual place where you can hang out with your friends and take your time catching up over sushi. Dont be afraid to ask the waiters for what you like they seem to be hapy enough to see what can do to make it happen. The only feedback I have however is that prices for the plates should be noticable and not tucked away behind a water jug. The sushi is good sushi but I wouldnt go so far to say the best sushi. But to be fair I was in at the last 2 hours of service. So I round this off to a whopping 4 stars based on experience and taste.
CY
quite a popular place , had to wait about 15 min for a seat.

Sushi was alright. Nothing was amazing, but the sushi conveyer belt was cool.

Quite overpriced for what you are getting and definitely a lack of Vege options.

Usually our favourite place to eat, travel all the way from pukekohe to grab a bite! Sadly was a let down this time, kitchen closed an hour and a half before closing, stone cold food (how long have they been there?), ordered sushi which never arrived. Hope things improve as usually it’s the best place for sushi!

I’ve had my eyes on this restaurant for quite sometime and finally decided to give it a go. Not disappointed at all! Great selection of sushi 🍣 I really enjoyed the pork gyoza 🥟 with special sesame sauce and takoyaki🥢 My first sushi conveyor belt experience, which I walked away looking forward to doing again and nice friendly staff.

Time for some sushi 🥰🍣
The price here varies on the plate with max of $8 for the deluxe ones.
Food: 3.5/5
Service: 5/5
Atmosphere: 4/5
Value: 3.5/5
Recommend: 3.5/5
.
.
.
This place is nice to go with you fam for a family outing since it's pretty chill 👍 The quality seems to have improved as well 😊. The clam type sushi's here are my fav and they don't have that unpleasant fishy taste 🥰. But I feel like the sashimi sushi here aren't the best quality since they aren't really firm and do smell quite fishy 😕. I recommend the spicy ramen or teriyaki udon ti wash all that sushi down with a soup dish 🍜. Overall a pretty good value and fun place to come with your loved ones 👌👌

Seem like this is the only sushi train style in east auckland. Came here with my young family a few times for dinner. Something different than just order from menu and waiting for food. Can see food circling around you and choose what to eat. Quite a decent selection of food choices. (Photos not uploading for some reason, will try again later.)
Food Taste: 3.5/5
Food Presentation: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 4.5/5
Value (price and portion size) 3.5/5

We came here as a party of 2 and got ten plates of sushi, two ramens, and a sorbet.

The pork ramen was delicious and a perfect size to still eat plenty of sushi. My favourite flavours were the Aburi Teriyaki Salmon, Aburi Garlic Red Mayo, and the Aburi Chilli Mayo Scallop. I would say these were some of the best sushi I’ve had and everything tasted very fresh despite it being a sushi train. I loved that they offered a good variety of seafood, particularly ones that we would not normally see, like welk and sea urchin, so many things to choose from!

The yuzu citrus sorbet was was something we’d never seen before and it was amazing. Perfectly refreshing for a post-meal dessert and the texture was super soft and melted in your mouth

Service was extremely friendly and welcoming and the environment was very fun, but relaxing.

An incredible experience overall.

I love Daruma Sushi! I come here for lunch atleast once a fortnight. Always get the mini ramen which is so filling, delicious and reasonably priced. One of my faves
Tian
The sushi here is very fresh and delicious. Can't order too much if not it will get too pricey. Had a $35 meal worth of sushi between 2 people.

Some of the plates are more worth than others but overall a great experience.

This place is sooo nice. I am not a person who likes sushi, but this place change my mind. The food is fresh and the environment is good as well.

Absolutely delicious sushi!!

Lots and lots of different nigiri and sushi rolls to choose from. My personal favourite was the miso salmon and also the spicy scallop. There is something for everyone!

Also I had about 6 plates and a drink and it was under $30 which is a great deal!

Would definitely come here again and again

Love the cream cheese salmon rolls and California rolls. We do prefer to get them to make it fresh as some of the sushi on the rail can be old.

Really cool place to take your friends along for a unique dining experience. But also plenty of stools for solo diners. The novelty of having a conveyor belt bringing food to you never gets old. Sushi is tasty but portions are a little small, and those plates really add up at the end of the night. Overall, a great time but don't expect value for money when it comes to quantity. You definitely do pay for the experience.

It's not cheap to dine here, but add in the quality, skill sets, sushi train and service experience and its like going to a dinner n a movie? Well worth it, we sat right next to the the "luggage chute" so we got 1st pick and we could peer in to see them working away. Sampled all the sushi dishes we would not usually see, like eel, welk, octopus, fish roe etc. Our sample plate and mocktails came to $60.00 for two. Service was great, quality was excellent and no time limit. The train was exciting and every one seated by the track were totally enjoying themselves. Thank you Kate and staff for the great dinner experience

Been here 3/4 times now, sushi is always really good besides from the odd roll which was a bit odd tasting but other than that everything is super yummy!

Service is pretty good, everyone is generally really lovely but the English barrier can sometimes get in the way.

Love coming here once in a while for a treat night 😊

Note to future customers: apparently you need to tell them to overcook your noodle.

It was our first time here, we went because of the reviews on Zomato. The sushi train was really great, had a lot of variety, and it was super tasty. We also got ramen noodles - we both love a good bowl of ramen. I was just really disappointed at our waitress that day.

When the ramen came out and the noodles were UNCOOKED - no not undercooked. The noodles were cold (the broth was hot), noodles were still clumped together and had the texture of play dough and had a crunch in the middle. I wasn’t looking for confrontation and asked the waitress whether they could just cook it a bit longer. I was happy that they agreed and in fact they bought whole new bowls of ramen. However, the waitress proceeded to tell me that Japanese like their noodles undercooked and in future to tell them to over cook the noodles. I told her that the noodles were not undercooked but UNCOOKED. She kept telling me in a really annoyed tone that I need to tell them to overcook them next time. To be honest I’ve had udon and ramen from heaps of Japanese places and I’ve never had uncooked noodles before. I’m also Asian and can make noodles from scratch, so I know the difference between undercook and uncooked. Plus, how am I meant to know that you were going to not/undercook the noodles to begin with?!

Went here twice in 2days 😂 sushis are delicious and fresh! Wait time isn’t long if there is only 2 people but bigger groups wait longer i noticed. You think its cheap as prices vary depending the plate but if you take big eaters with you, you could be paying upto $100 or more

Botany's best kept secret. Hubby and I eat here at least once a week. The sushi is made fresh (convenient because it is right next to Oceanz) and we have never been disappointed in the many years we have been coming here. Everything is yummy but our top 5 recommendations are:

Aburi prawn
Teriyaki pork
Aburi salmon
California roll
Wagyu beef tataki

oh and the miso ramen won't disappoint either.

Came here with my partner to try the sushi go-ground. Loved the experience. It’s a great way to see the sushi first hand and pick what appeals to you. I enjoyed my time here and have come back several times already. The dishes are all different and wonderful in flavour.
The prices are colour coordinated to each plate. So it ranges from$3 to $7 depending on what coloured dish you pick. There is also made to order dishes which you can make just by asking the friendly staff.

Ambience 4/5
Service 4/5
Food 4/5
This place is amazing and the set up is so cool. Food is so worth it and very filling. Highly recommend this place for dinner especially! Their smoothies are so good

Sushi always tastes better when it’s from a conveyor belt.

We didn’t come to Daruma because the sushi is fantastic, rather the novelty of the conveyor belt! There's something about watching the sushi plates spin around the belt and you eagerly eyeing around to see if your preferred type of sushi is making its way towards you or some other greedy hand nip in before you.

In terms of the actual sushi, it wasn’t too bad, you would be able to tell that some of the fish ingredients weren’t the freshest but that’s common amongst most of your sushi cafes. There wasn’t a particular favorite personally but I did like how they had this handheld machine which would calculate the costs for you by scanning the plates, very techy and efficient

Showstopper: Conveyor belt experience was fun.

Overall Grade: B

Have dined here several times and although it is one of the better choices for sushi, it is still expensive. The pictures I added were teriyaki chicken ordered off the menu and the plate is $5. The portion size is so tiny!

Great sushi, very tasty! Big range but the train / conveyer belt empties very quickly and takes a bit to get stocked again so best to go early. You can order from the menu but some tables don't have the menu, but when ordered, the food doesn't take too long to come out - which is good. Great staff, very lovely and welcoming. Not the best place to go if you have a pram as there isn't much room for the pram.

I visited here on a Wednesday night at around 7-7.30pm. It wasn't packed but there were 6 groups of customers including me and my friends. Service was prompt and the staff was friendly.

I had some sushi on the conveyor belt, wagyu nigiri and chilli pork ramen.

Sushi tasted good but there wasn't really a variety of sushi available and the conveyor belt was running empty. Most of sushi was not on the belt and there was no menu for sushi either so I could not order them separately. I decided to order what was on the menu, ramen and wagyu. Ramen was surprisingly good and wagyu was also good too.

I could have rated this place better if there was more variety of sushi available and the conveyor belt wasnt empty.

What can I say who doesn't love sushi. Great place to dine and enjoy the sushi train with different types you can choose from as the food passes you by. Quality of food is simply delicious and fresh and melts in your mouth. There is also options of udon and ramen plus some fried foods if your not to much into sushi or simply just want something else on your pallet. Seems to be a very popular place as we are there as soon as the doors open to ensure we get a seat as once it's full there isn't a waiting area for you to wait once your number has been called out. My rating reflects the price for the sushi itself for 2 pieces can range from $2-7 and for only 2 pieces your total can add up very quickly so be aware of this and I would recommend to only go with yourself and another person.

Staff are friendly, all waiters will greet you once you enter the door and will also say good bye, the interior is nice and clean makes it comfortable and relacing for casual catch ups with friends. The food i'm a huge fan of there Tonkontsu Ramen, made fresh every time. You can tell that the chefs do take pride as there presentation of the food is amazing and also so delious

I REALLY LIKE IT THEY HAVE A STUDENT DISCOUNT AND THE PRICES ARE REASONABLE:) Wish they had some japanese desserts but other than that really really good restaurant, its my go to!!

Stumbled upon this great little sushi place tucked away next to the fish shop. Feels authentic, really good sushi and good value. Will be back.

For once, a sushi that actually tastes like Japanese sushi (I'm Japanese). Good selection of topping if you are a seafood lover. But not recommended if you only eat teriyaki chicken.

2 things that was highly not recommended is 1) egg (tamago yaki) and 2) squid. They were very low quality.

I still go here every now and then to satisfy my sushi cravings.
Sonz
One of my go to eateries in Auckland. The staff are wonderful, attentive and always friendly. Dishes are a bit pricey (ranging from around $2.50 - $7.00 -2/3 pieces per plate) but the sushi quality is great. The Pork Ramen is a dish I recommend getting as it's jam packed with flavour. Favourite sushi would be the grilled eel. And if you ever see the salmon wings, make sure you snap that one up because it ain't coming back around trust me, it's that good.

Only issue is that if you arrive at a peak time and aren't by yourself, it's quite a wait in line as the restaurant is a little small, but when you're in a packed out restaurant, it's a sure sign it's worth the wait. They have booths on one side of the train that seat up to six people, and bar seats on the other side of the train. Good for group dining and/or individual dining.

Staff and service: 5/5
Food: 4/5
Atmosphere: 3/5
Price: $65-$80 on average for two people.

I feel really unhappy today. Come here with my friend, we have ordered udon noodles and flying fish Ron, and we have asked them around 3 times, but they still have not give us the meals. Really unhappy!!

Great food friendly staff reasonable prices always seems to be busy but it's one of those places if you blink you miss it was it is tucked away but for sure is worth a visit if you haven't tried it

I would recommend

Ate here 3 times with our family of 4. Pretty cheap eating , i like how you sit down and you can start picking whatever food you like off the conveyor and eat straight away. We've only been here once when there wasn't much of a variety of food to choose from, but the other times it's been great.
Christina
Came here once with a friend for lunch as I lived locally, and always wanted to try out sushi trains.

The concept is interesting- small plates of sushi and other foods went round on a conveyor belt and you picked whatever you liked. At the end they add up the cost of all the plates.
For me, I found the food good and fresh, but found it expensive. Plates started from $2.80 all the way up to $7 each, which I personally think is excessive.
Its great if you're just wanting a bite to eat (literally) but not for a lunch or dinner.
Tony Ma
If you come in knowing you are going to spend a bit of money. You will have a good time!

Came today in soaking rain. There was only one floor staff. However it wasn't too busy which was fine.

The fish was fresh, the wagyu was quite delicious and the spicy raamen was yummy too! I ate two bowls myself! If I was drunk I'm sure I can eat 3 or more, it's THAT GOOD!

Anyways overall it was good. Two people came to around $80, which is not bad. Had a good time.

Service: 5/5
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 4/5
Environment: 3/5
Price: $40pp

Will be back again

great customer service, nice sushi. but not much choice to choose.
interior is cool and clean, it is a great price to have a quick meal.
price is abit too expensive i guess, we went for 2 people, ate $40, still hungry..
overall, everything is alright.
oh, and they are real Japanese people too.
Lia Yosaatmadja
Definitely my go to place for sushi! I love this place! The sushi are always fresh, the ramen and udon are tasty, and the service is always friendly and efficient.

Yes they are a little more expensive than other sushi palaces, but the quality and the freshness of the fish makes up for it.
Ewok
Love this place, Love the food. Cost is not an issue as to me it's so worth it. Though in Japan it would be a lot cheaper, but hey can't complain. Service is excellent and the stuff are kind and friendly.
Freshness is what I look for when I eat sushi; Daruma definitely meets this Criteria. This place gets pretty crowded during lunch times on weekends so expect to wait a while before you get seated. The cost of your meal depends on how many plates of sushi you eat and the colour of the plate. The price is pretty ok but if you are like me and have a big appetite, expect to pay around 20ish dollars. My favourite 2 plates are the california roll and the miso salmon.
ReetsNLots
Loved everything about this place! Loved all the sushi, was so much fun! But boy it can get expensive if you go there on an empty tummy. Went with Le son and my dad today. Dad actually recommended this place. He's not really a sushi fan but liked some things here. Me on the other hand loved it all! Would definitely be back! Great experience, great selection !
Amanda Lee
Sushi is absolutely delicious.
The waiters are very attentive and the Sushi are made very quickly so that everybody can have their share as the many different kinds of sushi are going around.
Although the place itself is quite small it is very clean and cozy
Definitely recommend people to try
Dale
Nice venue but expensive for a sushi rain and didn't have a huge range on a pretty busy Sunday night. In saying that, service was awesome and the food we did have was nice

Probably my favourite sushi go round place; good prices, decent service (usually; depend who's on and whether it's super super busy; which it is on some days). I usually eat here or at daikoku before catching a movie or i come here for lunch quite often on my days off. Prices are reasonable; the selection is good; it's nice place to go for group of 4-6 people or less (booth setup doesn't really cater for massive groups); I really like how they have seasonal specials. One of my staple favorites is teryaki chicken udon (I prefer this to ramen place by countdown); this + couple plates sushi=$15 lunch. Even went there for dinner just now; currently having waygu specials.
Angela
Heard good things about this place. Finally got the chance to try it out last night except we were disappointed. Limited varieties to choose from, small servings, expensive. Suffice to say I've had better.
Caroline Barrett
The sushi here is really average and defiantly very overpriced! I would have preferred to spend 1/4 of what I did sushi at my local sushi shop. It's a novel idea and that's why people go but It's not really my cup of tea I'm afraid.
Marcella
One of the few places that sells sushi through a self serve conveyer belt. The concept is pretty cool and it's a unique experience. Unfortunately if you want to leave feeling fully satisfied, be prepared to spend a few more bucks.

The sushi are placed on different coloured plates, Each colour representing different prices. Personally for me, these prices are way overpriced. The sushi themselves are average and I question some of their freshness and hygiene. Some of the lids of the sushi are dirty and some have fallen off and therefor exposing the sushi as they make their rounds on the conveyer belts.

One of the positives about this place is that they also serve other things too such as ramen, tempuras and sashimi. We got their tonkatsu ramen and it was served in a small bowl, overpriced yet again. If you're not fussed about portions and are here for the experience then by all means, give this place a go. But if you're looking for a decent meal, I wouldn't recommend this place.
Jayce Huynh
I have always enjoyed eating at this place, theres a good selection of sushi and the service is friendly. The novelty is pretty cool if you haven't been to a sushi train before.
Robin Tay
Best sushi train in town. Or so I thought. It's been at least over a year since I've been here last. I remembered last the dishes that were served tasted at least close to the real McCoy.

I was really disappointed today with what was tasted. Each of the dishes had were pretty sub standard. The whelk, and other seafood dishes were not fresh and didn't give you the tastes of Japan.

Maybe there was a change of chef or ownership but felt it has gone down hill.
Jemimah
This is our local & favourite sushi train in Auckland.

What's good about this place is that they have a variety and if you don't see what you want on the conveyer belt, you can order it. Another nice touch they have is that the cards tell you where the seafood has come from, for example, NZ, Fiji, or even Japan. Our favourite here is the seared Californian roll.

Prices here are reasonable, and in my opinion, superior to the sushi train in the city, with Darumas ingredients being more fresh and made more lovingly.
Melissa
This is my go-to place whenever I feel like sushi train.

I've been many times - usually during lunch time and once at night. I would recommend going in the weekend because they bring out a lot more variety then compared to weekdays. Also it's better to go during the day so the sushi is freshly made. The service I've received has been quite mixed - sometimes we get asked what we'd like to drink, other times nothing.

They don't explain anything about how it works but then it's really self explanatory - everything is set out at your booth and you just take the plate of sushi you want so that's not a problem at all. Then they calculate everything based on the different places that refer to different prices.

My boyfriend and I always pick the same thing from the train - we've tried weird and not so-great tasting things and some yummy things. Sushi is either a hit or miss for most people but I personally quite like this place (on the weekends though).
SS
I’ve been trying to find decent places closer to home as I always seem to venture out into town or central suburbs to grab meals everyday. I had absolutely no luck here.

We walked in at 7pm Monday and occupied the remaining booth table. The guy lead us to the table and walked away. So we thought maybe he’d come back and tell/explain a little to us. Nope. Nothing. We sat awkwardly and despite making eye contact a few times, we were ignored. No water or drinks menu provided either???

Eventually, we saw that there were chopsticks beside us and thought maybe we just grab stuff on the train and eat? So we did and food was definitely below average. Actually, a lot below average. Some items i.e. the soft shell crab sushi was inedible. Pricing seems okay on the wall, but you soon realise 8/10 plates lean to the bigger prices i.e. Two cold overcooked deep fried prawns for $7?! Plus the tiny portions add up quite quickly.

Definitely won’t come back.

Here for lunch today Buzzin. Which is usual for this place these days it translate to a quick turn over of there product which is needed for this type of food.we have been coming to this place since it open about 18 months ago they had there first store in Wellington...back then you could just walk up and get a table now days you have to take a number with queues out the door ...sure its a bit pricey but probably no more than the average yum char these days ..a once in a while treat....
NanaKo
Came here for dinner tonight (Monday). At 7pm this place was packed, we got the last available table. Service was great. We were greeted promptly and taken to our seats.
The selection of sushi was average. Not many choices on the belt and the same things kept going round and round. The fish and seafood was very fresh but the servings are relatively small compared to other sushi places. If you order off the sushi menu, they will make it fresh for you and bring it to your table.
We had a total of 20 plates between the 2 of us and we left the place only half full.
Overall, a nice local place to try but will not be a place to fill your tummy at a reasonable price.
Erin Brown
Food is pretty good, pretty busy for lunch on a saturday. Great experience for our visitors who live out of town & haven't experienced the sushi go round. Recommend the chicken udon soup!

Pro: The only Sushi train in the area, fresh, nice dish. Waitress is friendly. I love the soft shell crab.

Cons: Since this is the only one Sushi train, it is pricey for the size of the dish

The manager (Kei) is very ignorance despite the friendly staff. I got the hot pot soup which was very salty. Called him to asked if I could get some more water for the soup, but he just ignored me, still still in the corner and wave to the waitress girl to give me some water while she is very busy serving other people. He walked pass me several times but no bother to check if I still wanted some water. I thought the service was quite poor.

The BEST sushi go around in Auckland!

Very good service and amazingly fresh sashimi on the sushi! The kingfish nigiri is definitely the highlight alongside their pork ramen which you can order as a side dish amongst many other things! The dishes are not expensive on their own but your meal can get quite expensive depending on how much you can eat!

The waiters are all very friendly and enthusiastic!

This is an amazing place for date nights and small groups but if you have a huge group, things may get a little chaotic!

I love Daruma sushi go round. I have taken a number of Japanese visitors here (on their request for Sushi) and they have been very impressed! It is my favourite way to eat sushi and the selection is unbeatable. Japanese visitors think it is expensive but there is nothing else like it around here!
Ronald Tan
Good Japanese sushi train. Came here for dinner and the servings is fresh. Pricey compared to the city sushi train which is 3.5 per plate. Overall great place if you are a sushi lover.

There aren't many sushi trains in Auckland, and this one was sadly a disappointing experience. There are plates of different colours signifying the different prices of each one. The novelty of it wears off quite quickly as you realise there isn't actually that much variety on the train, and the taste is nothing out of the ordinary. For the price and taste, you're better off ordering sushi elsewhere. It adds up quite quickly despite eating very little.

Sarah Reynolds #challenge

Its the only sushi train in the suburb so even the price is quite expensive we still visit it quite often. Although the seafood still quite fresh, the portion size of the sushi seem to be smaller recently. Definitely notice the prices if different dishes gone up since our last visit.
James De Castro
Very average. Hardly any variety and compared to Sushi trains around Auckland this one comes out at the bottom. Side dishes are over priced and lack any real flavor

Came here with my girlfriend after hearing good things about this place from a friend. We both like Japanese food so we thought we'd give it a try.

It was our first time at a sushi go around and the novelty of it was fun for the first 10 minutes but after that it was just stupid.

The people closest to the start of the conveyor belt took all the good stuff because the kitchen wasn't putting out enough food and we got all the crap stuff that was also very overpriced. The average price for a plate is around $4 for 2 or 3 pieces of sushi with the expensive ones fetching you 2 pieces for around $6. The sushi wasn't even that good, it felt bland and dry, not flavourful at all.

We then ordered ramen and the portion was ridiculous, it was actually a mouthful. It wasn't cheap either...

After spending an hour here and spending $50, we were left disappointed and still hungry so we went to the fish and chip shop next door, which is so much better!

I'm not the biggest fan of sushi, but I always leave this place satisfied. Sushi trains are always fun and this place is no exception.

They have a great range of sushi here, and my personal favourites are their seared garlic prawn nigiri and the seared tuna nigiri. I also love the plates that have yum yum sauce as I'm a bit of a sucker for that stuff.

The service is friendly and efficient and we always enjoy our time here. It is pretty pricey though - expect to come and pay for more than you might normally for sushi.

In saying that, the food tastes fresh and you can get things you might not see at other places, such as whelk nigiri.

Some dishes can be a bit disappointing (for instance their beef tataki has a sweet sauce on it which I wasn't a fan of, and I didn't really enjoy their karaage chicken much either). Also, it can be a bit of a difficult place if you have a toddler with you as it's either booth or bar seating, although they do have high chairs which can be positioned awkwardly next to you.

Overall though, this is a place that we happily visit whenever we're around the Botany area and are in the mood for some sushi.

I've heard mixed things about Daruma, but my experiences with them have been good ones, I always leave satisfied 😁

The staff are friendly and the sushi train is always topped up with various dishes. Service has improved since I first dined here a few months ago. It's nice seeing staff around to call if you need to order more water or tea (I wrote that on a comment card the last time and they improved so yay! glad to see that Vue customer opinions! ☺️) . I normally order a ramen and just grab dishes off the conveyor belt.

In my opinion it's slightly over priced but that's probably because I tend to go for the expensive dishes haha. But the meats are always fresh, well seasoned if seared, and good portions.

It's worth a try if you've never been to sushi train restaurants! And I'd come back for more 😁

Sushi go round out in East Auckland. The selection is good however not all the items on the menu were available on the conveyor but you were able to order it from the kitchen. The restocking speed was good, food was fresh. It costed $45 for the two of us having 11 plates. Overall experience was pleasant.

Our children were very happy with the conveyer belt go round take what you like style sushi restaurant! The seafood sushi was so fresh and yummy. We ordered a kid set Emily, it was fun cause food was served on a train server. But the contents of the food, 2 sushi rows, a tiny bowl of udon soup noodle, 1 lollipop, 1 jelly and 1 small cup of orange juice were not enough and nutrition for kids. We also ordered simple udon soup, it was hot and delicious although it only had wakame (seaweed) and some tempura stuff.
Worth to try out!

Sushi go round!
Good experience as you choose what you like
The sushi comes in various expenses
The different coloured plates represent the different prices and they are fixed
The food is amazing and the beverages really hit you as the flavours work so well
The Incredible Edible
Great service and what you expect from a sushi train

Felt like a quick light meal
Lots of options on the sushi train and lots to order off the menu

Three sizes of Sashimi offered, pieces are cut nicely and quality was good.

Friendly staff and would go back

FIRST IMPRESSION: Not the nicest looking place from the outside, couldn't see inside either because of all the posters on the wall.
SECOND IMPRESSION: Basically exactly what I expected.. a sushi train with booths on one side and an eating bar on the other.
SEATING: Plenty of seats available however this was a Monday night. Waitress was polite and prompt.
ORDERING: Above the food on the conveyor belt, there are menus (very busy menus) with extra stuff you can order. We got a few of them and they showed up in 7m 40s.
COFFEE: Not ordered.
FOOD: The novelty of the 'sushi train' quickly wore off. Then we noticed there wasn't a huge variety of things available (hence us ordering from the menu) and we questioned the freshness of each plate. Of the things we picked off the line though, all were very tasty and enjoyable.
PAYMENT: Your job is to stack the plates from the dishes you've taken from the train. Their job is then to add up the cost of your plates (plates cost different amounts of money depending on their colour). This worked well and they had no issues with splitting the bill.

OVERALL: Fun place for a social dinner before a movie or going out somewhere. I recommend attending on a busy night and booking a booth earlier. That way the food will be fresh and you'll get a good position on the line.

Highly recommend this place. Went here for dinner. All the nigiri were fresh and every rolls that we had was so delicious! One of the best conveyor belt sushi that i have tried in my life!!

My husband and I quite frequently dine at the sushi train, sushi is always fresh and delicious. My favourites are the soft shell crab, seared miso salmon and peppered seared tuna. Service is pretty good too.

I'm a sushi train regular. I love that when I'm hungry and in a rush at lunchtime I sit and then almost instantly I eat. No waiting for a menu, no waiting for a waiter. I like to sit close to the kitchen end of the train so I can see what the chefs are preparing to load onto the train next. And I know that if it's something particularly tasty I won't get a second chance to choose it. The staff are prompt, polite and not overly attentive (that's a good thing).
The range of dishes is very good. If I had favorites they would be the chicken karaage, delicious bite sized mosels lightly battered with a delicate vinegar dressing. And if I'm honest the prawn sushi drowned in a slightly tangy yumyum sauce. And then there is the soft shelled crab sushi. Mmmmm.
I can't wait until next time I go.

The good old sushi train restaurant that's situated outside of AKL CBD, in fact it's situated right next to Oceanz Seafood.

Their sashimi is considered fresh if you are visiting during Tues - Sat, I've been there during Sun - Mon, the seafood weren't as fresh as it should be.

Their pricing has creep up since their first opening, you can easily spend over $50 between 2 people and not ordering anything spectacular. However, the service was great and you can enjoy your time here never been rushed to free up the table.

They offer special limited of time menu to celebrate festive season to give it a bit of a twist. I recommend this if you crave for sushi train and wanting to avoid parking and the travel distant to AKL CBD.

The food was delicious but I am pretty sure I got ripped off by the waitress when adding up my plates. My calculations came in $10 less than they charged....but very hard to prove once the plates have been taken away. I will back but I will also be checking the plate prices before leaving the table.
$37 for 2 people having a moderate amount of the cheaper plates and a miso each is excessive.

Ridiculously expensive overall for its portion size and taste. Sushi are fresh but of roughly the same quality/taste as normal fast food sushi.
Water Boy
Went here for lunch. It was a nice experience. The service was friendly and it was a nice new way to have sushi. Total cost for the two of us was around $45, which included drinks.
Alex
Great decor, freshly made sushi.Great varieties of seafood ,sushi can be ordered if they are not on the conveyor belt. Their waiter are very thoughtful, came to remind us whether we want make some last orders before the kitchen close.

One thing I need to point out is It can get a bit expensive if you have a big appetite.
Sabrina
its the first time i try Daruma. think here is the best sushi go round in Auckland. the food is fresh and i love the greentea ice-cream so much. must go nxt time
Jess
I've been here twice now and both have been very good experiences. The seafood tastes very fresh, service is very friendly. They have a large variety of sushi to choose from with limited time specials that constantly change. The special when I went the second time was the Scorpion fish sushi. Would definitely come here again when I've saved up a little, being the poor student that I am :b

Lovely and clean with modern decor...The service is great and so is the food, my daughter loves it. If you have younger kids this is a great way to get them to like healthier take out food. The conveyor belt with fresh Sushi rolling past is very entertaining for kids. This will be a monthly "eat-out" venue for us with my 5 year old.
Good value all round
Jason
Dine regularly at this place, I don't usually write reviews but this place deserve a thumb up. There's a wide variety of sushi to choose from and most importantly their seafood is fresh. They make effort in bring new sushi occasionally. Although not greatly different to their regular sushi. But it's still sensational trying new variations. Staff are very friendly and the place is clean and comfortable. If you like authentic sushi made by Japanese. You should definately give his place a try.
Rob Tuckey
Excellent service and ambiance. The food is well prepared and is constantly refreshed.

Expensive, average Japanese food.

Had my birthday lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon earlier this month. The 5 of us (4 adults plus a baby in stroller) were promptly seated at a booth and given menus. The place was about 80% full.

We decided to get all our food from the conveyor belt and not from the menu. The waiter quietly acknowledged it with a smile and left us to it. It's so good to have waiters who know when to approach you and when to leave you in peace :)

The selection of dishes was fantastic! Lots of variety including many nigiri not available elsewhere. Since it was an occasion, we weren't holding back getting dishes from the conveyor belt and were pleasantly surprised that the bill came to around $66 for the table. We were expecting to pay more.

Clean place, fresh food, excellent variety, nice staff and great value for money. We are looking forward to make return visits soon!

We visit Daruma on a regular bases, it's fun we can pick what we want. We found the fish's always fresh and the rice's always made perfectly. Not to mention that their takeaway party packs are also off the hook!!
Love Food
Love, love, love this place, a must go when every time we go to east. Personal top choice of sushi, best of the best is salmon California roll, super!
Bo
Great sushi go around, soo many choices of sushi and stuff, the longer you are there the more new things comes around. Very cool conveyer belt that takes sushi around. Quite expensive if you want to try everything. Suggest that you eat something else before you come here. We spend $180 dollars between 2 people last time which seemed excessive.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
Daruma is where I chose to dine whenever I have the cravings for sushi but I'm not in the mood to head out to town. Being just 5 minutes from home, Daruma is a convenient location for my family and I to stop by and feast on delicious sushis made from fresh and high quality fish.

Sushis travel via conveyor belts around the table straight from the kitchen and they make a good variety of different sushis
with toppings such as seared teriyaki salmon, fatty tuna, scallop, octopus, squid and sweet shrimp. They also have a variety of roll sushi and my favourite would have to be the seared Californian roll. If you're not too keen with raw seafood, you can order udon, takoyaki, edamame and tempura from their kitchen menu.

Daruma is best to visit when they are just getting busy as this ensures the sushi that goes around has a high turnover. The last thing you want is sushi that has gone round several times on the conveyor belt in room temperature!
