Review Basu Lounge - Auckland

It was recommended by a friend. Great service and lovely atmosphere. This restaurant is one of the best dining restaurants I’ve had in NZ. We ate Chef’s recommendations and enjoyed all our selections. The food tasted great. You can tell that the chef is very passionate about what he is doing. Food great, service great and environment is clean making the experience really special and really memorable.

Really yummy Dandan noodle!! Higly recommend spicy one.

Amazing Sichuan style noodles and dumplings. Food was served with a generous portion and inexpensive price. Relatively low wait time as well if you are after quick Sichuan style lunch/dinner you can not go wrong with this place. Must try the beef noodle and chicken dumplings. Do be careful with the spiciness level because it was even mild was HOT.

Best wonton noodle I have had, ever. The medium spice was perfect for me (other people might find it a little spicy). Very generous portion sizes. Only little niggle I feel they should have had some napkins on the table, instead of going back to the main counter to get them The staff are nice and friendly and not in your face which made the experience more enjoyable for me. Everything is clean and tidy. I will be back to try there dumplings

We are regular customers and our orders are always consistent and generous for the price. Service is with a smile and cost very reasonable. The dumplings are huge and very tasty! The noodles are wonderful. Haven't tried the rice yet because we love the noodles and dumplings so much. The broth is very tasty. Highly recommended!

So here we have dan dan noodles from basu lounge. We had chicken dan dan noodles and chicken dan dan noodles. Now, lets come to the taste. The taste was yum as there were dumplings too but I personally don't like peanut sauce and it was too much. But I would recommend you all to go and taste it. I am sure there are many peanut lovers too.😉☺️

Hands down favourite dumplings in the whole wide world has to be the pork and chive in spicy sauce. Their ‘hot’ is not to be underestimated, but even though it burns a little for me it’s well worth it. Dan dan noodles a nice accompaniment to the dumplings but not a must. Portion sizes are huge so always go for the Small if in doubt. Fell in love with the original Basu Lounge in Takapuna but I really rate their Browns Bay location more.

Fantastic experience here. This is the restaurant you have to try. Left me the best impressions. Not only food but also services. I love fried and sourced pork slices the best. Fried potatoes, capsium and eggplant also pretty good. My friend told me mapo tofu is also great. Will try next time.

First thing comes to my mind is that it is spacious & comfortable than the first branch that is on takapuna. Friendly staff & undoubtedly massive menu. Food is great! Basu make killer veg dumplings. A must try place. Parking could be a challenge sometimes. Bus stop nearby.

😋 Quickly became a regular customer. Definitely a place to stop. The dandan noodles and dumplings are definite favs but don't hesitate to try their other dishes.

Been coming to Basu in Browns Bay with my partner for a good 6 Years, so flavorful and great portions. We bring our friend's here and they absolutely love it and come back here when they are in town. My favorite is the stewed pork noodle soup (Med spice for me I enjoy spicy), sweet and sour pork and pork and chive dumplings. Always look forward to coming here, the staff are super friendly. Thank you!

Best fried dumplings I jave had so far. Ordered a take away, read my book inside the restaurant whilst waiting, and had a feast on the beach, a short walk away.

TLDR: good food! Spice is recklessly added so ensure that you always pick mild.

Great place for takeaway during level 3 and price is also kind. Children will run and smash their teeth.

Great dumplings 🥟

Love the dumpling in spicy sauce and portions are quite reasonable

Note to self:

Always get the beef noodle soup. Even if you don’t feel like it. You only think you don’t feel like it but the moment the smooth noodles and that beefy broth hits your tongue you will thank me. Well, yourself. Myself? Oh, and ask for mild spicy unless you’re specifically in a vanilla mood for beefy broth in which case go for no spice. It’s still good although the little bit of spice does add that extra tasty kick. Do it. Don’t fall into the temptation for medium because you weren’t born with that particular super power. Small size is enough and you’ve got a decent appetite for your age, gender, and ethnicity. Go for large only if you want to experience being an All Black.

Dan dan noodles are good but you don’t want to get it again because you’re not a big peanut person. Recommend it to others who do like it because it did taste good.

Skip the sweet and sour pork on rice. The portion was great but the taste was a bit bland for your preference. Which is a surprise because the guo bao rou (crispy pork with sweet sauce) is so good. The meat is on the thin side but the crisp is great, the sauce isn’t sickeningly sweet and the ginger and coriander perfect the dish. Oh - ask for more coriander next time. Make it your go-to main dish.

On carb loading days, get the dumplings. On days you want savoury, get the wontons. Both are good. Big and generous with fillings. The best around. Again, mild spicy since you’re a weakling. Accept it and move on.

Be kind to the lady at the front - she is always lovely. Friendly and enthusiastic. Take a paper bag for takeaway. Try eating in the restaurant next time, the restaurant has always been clean every time you’ve gone to pick up your food. Maybe consider going weekly. Make it your soul food.

Basu lounge has the BEST chicken wonton soup and I always order the chefs special spicy sauce too which is amazing! I’m not a noodle person but their dandan noodles are great too and i always order stir fried pork and garlic sprouts too! :)

I tried several sichuan food places in akl, but this one is the one with good portion and good taste/
price is really good with this kind of taste,
can't always find seats in takapuna, and browns bay one is busy aswell, i think because their taste and menu set and good services.

Highly recommended!

Best food on the shore! Can easily feed 2 people for 20 bucks. It's always busy so foods always fresh, and the staff are always super nice and friendly!

Just been here for lunch and got the pork n chive pan fried dumplings; while waiting I read the reviews; sounded good so was looking forward to it. Then they came out argh big thick dumpling wrappers on them drenched in oil; small not that tasty filling that fell out of the grossly huge wrapper. No idea why people liked them so much; the ones at the night markets are better than these and half the price. Waitress was pretty friendly so they got the extra star from that; won’t be back even though some of the other noodle and rice dishes sounded ok

One of the best local Chinese food restaurant at browns bay.

This place is so damn underrated! The dumplings are amazing but the Dan Dan noodles have ruined me they are so amazing!! I’m so impressed and I will absolutely be back

The sauce of the noodles here were so good, and so were the dumplings. It was one of the tastiest dish I’ve ever eaten here. The environment was good too. Would come again

I have never had a disappointing meal here. So happy they have opened up in Browns Bay. Try their hot and numbing beef rice noodle soup - medium spice level. For this upcoming winter weather you won't regret it :')

The Shore will always be my home because of Basu Lounge.

We went in over the weekend. We originally had trouble booking a table. The food was good but the service was a little low. Definitely a 4 star place but service dropped a star

Best part was the dumplings, they were big cheap and really tasty. I tried to ask if noodles and dumplings where made In house but couldn't get an exact answer .
The food isn't very clean。Especially hot stuff。

The friend ate.The diarrhea lasted all day

Contrast real Chinese taste. It's actually pretty general.

Anyway...If you haven't eaten real sichuan food. You can try it here.

Just hope they can actually handle the cleanliness of the kitchen

Beef noodles is da best, be on the cautious side when indicating spice level. Dumping filling is generous. Avoid ordering rice dishes though, it’s not their strong suit.

Go to place for cheap eats in Browns Bay and the North Shore.
Awesome pork dumplings, kung pao chicken, beef soup, great spicy dan dan noodles.

One of the best foods iv had in browns bay, me an my partner went on a Monday and the food we had was absolutely amazing, only thing I didn’t like was the chicken cold salad (my own fault though wasn’t to my taste, lots of bones. The waitress did state that but I didn’t realise how much) great price 💕 massive portions 💕 had to take some dumplings home cause we couldn’t finish it all, I tried my partners sweet and sour pork An we both agreed, best sweet n sour pork we have ever had! Also had been there many times now since our first time here, it’s definitely our favourite place to eat together 🤗 Great prices. REGULARS HERE!

I reckon they have the best dumplings on the shore, only been there once so far but have already planned to head back next week, really friendly staff too!
Romana Petrie
Very nice dumplings.

I usually only get takeaway because it is always so busy - this is not a bad thing but because of the great location I usually take my food over to the beach.
There are so many yummy options to try and it's always quick and friendly service.

Super healthy and tasty soup... Tried chicken and Vege soup. Both so good.
Dumplings are must try... Amazing dinner on a cold rainy day. Thanks 😊

A great little oriental eatery. The Beef Noodle soup for $9 was an exceptional lunchtime treat, with efficient service. Will definitely be going back.

Absolutely amazing just like the one in Takapuna but with more room, the service is excellent and the food is exceptional. Best place for dinner
Blackpearl
One of our favourite cheap eats! Glad that they opened up a store in Browns Bay as it's nearer to us compared to Takapuna. Been here twice now and both times it's been good. The place itself is better, cleaner and the food is still awesome. Our favourite is the dan dan noodles and dumplings with spicy sauce, we always get them mild. Service is pretty good too, would def recommend for casual cheap eats.

For a new place this has to be pretty good pricing of their meals are just right. I really liked the beef dumplings with chilli oil. One of those great meals for eating with a good movie

I've only had the dumplings here, but I absolutely loved them! The wrapper is nice and thick while the fillings are delicious--they're full of flavour on their own, but my favourite way to have them is with the spicy sauce. Really awesome! I love spicy food but if you don't have a high tolerance for spice maybe get that dish mild ;) Really friendly service as well! So glad they opened up nearby me

This Basu Lounge is their second branch. First is at Takapuna which is a very popular tiny little restaurant.

Their Dan Dan Mien is the highlight. Its peanut base with a hint of spice (depending on how spicy you can handle). Their dumplings are good too, but the dumpling skin is a little too thick to my liking.

Overall, we highly recommend both Basu Lounge sites.
I am a big fan of their Takapuna branch. Exactly same taste, more menus, I just love it! Parking was much easier than Takapuna. Definitely revisit Browns Bay!
Emily Hargreaves
The dumplings are delicious however I would rather they did a shrimp/prawn flavoured one as well. The spicy dumplings are amazing if it is mild enough, sometimes they make them too spicy

went here for lunch, we had 4 dishes, dumplings, beef at potato stew, mapu tofu and pork meatballs. all the food was great, strong flavours nicely cooked and presented. excellent friendly service and they gave us a complementary salad. The prices were very reasonable and will go here again.
