Review Mac's Down Under Bar - Auckland

Making this a bit of a nostalgic routine of getting the Kiwi Burger each time that I have to leave my partner here as I fly back to home to visit. Comfy chairs along the windows and walls, really nice decor all around, and plenty of TVs for sports and such. Burgers and meals around $21 but expected for the airport. Airport toilets aren't too far away either.

Great service and food at the Cafe today. We were a large family group with four children. We were well looked after by Maryann and George who went the extra distance to ensure our visit was enjoyable for everyone. Well done.

Such a good food here. We have ordered Homemade Kiwi beef burger and Griled chicken with bacon, avocado, salad & brie etc. and fries. We have to say that the cheef knows what he does! It was really tasty, specialy the chicken. Servis was ok. Doesn't look happy but everyone has bad day :)

For an airport this is a great bar/cafe/resto. Just had rib-eye steak, chips and salad with a bottle of sauvignon blanc for under 50 NZD. Service was great - really friendly.

My favorite place for dining at the Auckland airport. This is located before entering the departure lounge. Nice food and bit busy place.

Difficult to find a seat but the scarcity made the venue feel more exclusive. Great chips! I had a lovely experience.

Service was slow, we waited at least 5 minutes at the counter before anyone served us. Iced chocolate was literally milk, ice, and chocolate sauce poured all around the glass. Eggs came with no taste to them, bacon was like cardboard and had to ask for butter for the toast. Coffee was good though, not enough to save the meal unfortunately.

We got $800 food voucher from Auckland Airport compensation.<br/><br/>So we ate from all the restaurants at the airport and binged at this one too. The food is not bad, being bar food.<br/><br/>How you expect the food to taste is exactly how it tasted. No surprises. a Good spot to while away time before your flight.  Good range of Mac beers and a reasonable wine list. The nachos hit all the right spots. Nice to have tv's visible from where ever you sit.

Good service & nice location to sit & wait for a flight. TVs are on & there is a nice window area overlooking the hotel.<br/>Good range of Macs beers & also wine list covering all the faves. They have a range of meals and bar snacks. Their beer battered fries with aioli are a must order

Nice breakfast but service let us down a little - one sat for 5 mins before finally being delivered! Fortunately management saved the day with a fresh replacement & refund.

Just went here for a coffee and would never ever return!!!!  The coffee was luke warm and used dishwater would actually taste better than their coffee!!!!  If you are planning on going here then think again!!  It is absolutely terrible!!

Pretty quick service here for breakfast, most likely because the food is in a warmer ready to go, definitely not cooked to order. But service is friendly and comfortable, the coffee is above average and has a decent beer on tap range. The venison sausages are a bit dry and small. The rib eye steak for dinner is good.

Breakfast was good, venison sausages ok but a bit thin , coffee was average but service was quick. Dinner was also middle obtuse road with calcination and the rib eye. Chip were a bit bland but salad and steak were pretty good value for the price.

Came here for a quick bite to eat before jetting off. <br/>Lovely decor and very inviting<br/>Menu offers great choice and also cabinet food looks awesome too. <br/>Staff were friendly and helpful and quick to put out orders through <br/>We got the chips first, which are amazing (best in NZ in my opinion!)<br/>And then the pizzas, burger and fish n chips came out. <br/>Only problem with the food was the Beehive pizza was burnt but as soon as we let the staff know they took it away and made a brand new one!!<br/>Food was very tasty otherwise <br/>A great place for friends and family to enjoy a meal before someone jets off!

Went to Down Under last night since I love Macs bars but was disappointed. We picked a few things from the small plates menu to start us off. The Asian tasting "platter" was a huge disappointment! One supermarket springroll cut in half, three stock standard mini samosas and 2 prawn twisters for $14! Sadly they were out of risotto balls and we couldn't get the pizza we wanted. But the chips are decent and salt and pepper calamari was as expected (another stock standard supermarket find).<br/><br/>The place was a mess and there was food on the floor. The weirdest part was being serves by KFC staff!<br/><br/>But it must be said their decor is wonderful (if only it was tidy and sans food on the floor!) which was why I chose to go there. Next time I'll just get a beer and enjoy the surroundings pre flight!

My NZ family and I had actually visited this place a few times when one of us travels overseas. However, this is the first time we've actually ordered meals as usually we only had drinks. <br/><br/>Dad had Beef nachos with sour cream and guacamole, Chris had the vegetarian version of Dad's meal, Mum chose the Kumara chips with chilli sauce and sour cream, and I had Spanish omelette with mushroom and potato with salad on the side. Wow, they were delicious! I was surprised how light the omelette was but Mum did confirm that Spanish omelette is always made that way, by separating egg yolks from the egg whites, beating the whites until foamy, then folding into the mixed yolks.<br/><br/>Drinks were equally nice too. Would definitely have a meal again when visiting the airport another time.<br/>, <br/>UPDATE: We did visit few more times, ordering different meal. Food is still really nice, highly recommend this place.

Went here a couple of weeks ago, the staff were really nice and friendly. Food is ordered up at the bar and we got the Fettuccine Carbonara, Feta & Caramelised Onion Tart, Grilled Chicken with Avocado, Bacon, Salad & Brie in Toasted Pide, and the Venison, Blue Cheese & Caramelised Onion Pizza, as well as sides of Chips & Kumara Chips. It all came out really quick but it was rather quiet when we were there. The pasta was delicious and creamy, the tart nice and crisp, and the chicken was very good - really nicely cooked and a really big portion. The pizza was nice but the venison lacked a bit of flavour and there wasn't much of it (especially for $25). The chips were really good - super crunchy and served with aioli, and the kumara chips were the BEST - also really crunchy and come with sweet chilli sauce and sour cream (and aioli if you ask for it ;) ). Will be returning :)
