Really outstanding curry. We had a saag, a bhuna and a madras. All excellent. Very generous portions. I’d go there again. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I'm surprised this place only has 1 review - it is hands down the BEST Indian food my partner and I have ever tasted!!! .. And we love our Indian! We've been to all the popular chain Indian restaurants but Indian Taj beats all the rest by far. The food is absolutely divine and full of authentic spices & flavours - so amazing there are no words to describe it. Excellent, friendly, fast service and incredible value for money - almost worth the trip over the hill from Wellington just to eat here. They were more than happy for us to take our leftovers home too and didn't charge any extra for the takeaway containers unlike some places do. Can't wait to go back, I highly recommend the platter for two as a starter!!

Consistently good food and friendly staff. I like how you can order online so you can see the whole menu before ordering and prices.
If you are someone that likes curry but not spice then their mild curry is good because it's not spicy at all. Medium is perfect for those who like a bit of heat but not over-powering. One order of Chicken Tikka Masala takeaway was definitely enough for two people for those wondering about portion sizes.
Overall a great place to go for a curry in Carterton :)
Delicious Food, we went there after Greytown Mid-Winter Christmas Festival. Food quality and flavors were mind blowing. We will be visiting again definitely
Absolutely excellent curry!
Flavor profile was sublime, onion baji and pakora were excellent, lamb saag and matter paneer were one of the best I've had in New Zealand, breads were also fluffy and crispy. Seriously one of my all time top ten curries. Highly recommended!
Absolutely beautiful food, I ordered through delivery and it was just perfect. My go to is a mushroom masala and it’s one of those dishes you think afterwards, wow when can I get that again. Every time it’s just as good and delicious as you remember. Thank you!!

We had some guests stating over for the weekend and decided we would like an Indian take away meal for dinner.
I have had take aways from the Indian Taj before and really enjoyed it so thought I would go back there again.
I looked up the online menu and placed my order which would be ready in 30 minutes.
When I picked up the order it wasn't what I had ordered.
After going over this with the gentleman (not sure who he was) he pointed out I had used the wrong (out of date) menu when ordering.
As our guests had special dietary needs I couldn't take what had prepared.
However this lovely gentleman said he would remake the order to what I had selected and not charge me for what was my mistake.
What a magnificent gesture and exceptional customer service.
When I went to pick up my order I offered a tip as some compensation but he would not accept it.
You guys are amazing and the meal was up to its usual tasty high standard and enjoyed by all our guests.
I will be gong back to Indian Taj again, with the correct menu this time.
I would highly recommend the Indian Taj to anyone looking for a great Indian meal.

I love that this has some of the only Indo-Chinese food around. They do a wonderful job of making it and it's absolutely delicious. For me, their other curries are a bit hit and miss. Most are delicious, but I've had better biryani's and found the Dahl Makhani too sweet for my taste.
They are a little pricier than the other Indian restaurants around, so I mainly recommend them for the Indo-Chinese food, as that's the main reason I keep ordering from them.
