Review Unknown Chapter Coffee Roasters - Christchurch

This is the only cafe in CHCH you need to go to. I've been to my fair share of average cafes and this one blew them out of the park. First off the coffee is dark and strong, just how I like it. And the highly recommended French toast definitely lives up to the hype. The eggs benedict was good although I prefer to have a hash stack over crunchy bread. And the cabinet food selection is decent. It is a popular spot so would recommend booking a table if you have a group. Staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommend!

The wait to get in can be long without a booking. We didn't know that you had to go up to the counter to order though. The water glasses are really warm, but the water is nice and cool. I recommend letting the glass cool down so that your water doesn't heat up. (I know that it's normal but still). I ordered French toast and it was delicious, it was nice and warm too. I love this place, I'd gladly go again.

The cafe that will never disappoint you in terms of coffee and food. The food is consistently 5* and long black is 6*. MUST GO for coffee lover. Missed the coffee after moving to Auckland so will pop in whenever back in town as can't find the consistent good level of coffee in Auckland. Great vibe and always packed so will be challenging to find a seat if you pop in at the peak hours.

Really cool little cafe, super busy on a Saturday morning but we were seated quickly and our meals served in a timely manner. Really lovely meals and well presented. Really good value for money too with breakfast costing $70 for both of us including a drink. I had the salad and it was a great sized serving and very flavourful. The only issue I have with the cafe is: My son and I found it difficult to converse due to the massive amount of people and their conversation. I liked the polished concrete floors however the sound just bounces around with all that glass and concrete, they need to add some soft wall hangings or something to absorb it a bit.

Fabulous cafe, super popular and busy for good reason. Staff are great, helping find a table quickly even at the busiest time. Friendly, great customer service with top food and coffee. 🤩 Highly recommended 🤤

One of the best breakfast/brunch places I’ve ever had! The place gets quite packed even on weekdays so I recommend coming earlier to secure a seat. Food was delicious too! Shared three dishes with my family of four since the portions were also quite big. The coffee also hit the spot- highly recommend going for their oat latte:) There’s plenty of other food options available too. Sending love from Singapore!

Busy for a reason! Quick service, friendly staff and delicious food. The filo pastry with Moroccan chicken and cream cheese was the bomb 🤌🏽

Very cool cafe, exceptional service & no extra charge for cream with a long black. Beautiful looking cabinet food & a wide variety of drinks on offer. Loads of plants hanging and framing the open inviting space. Loads of tables with indoor/outdoor options. Delicious milkshakes & great coffee! Would definitely recommend and find a reason to go back!

What do you do when you find yourself in this part of town that you are not familiar with, and with a couple of hours to spare while waiting for your child's birthday party to end..? I rarely give 5 stars for everything as I feel we always have potential to improve. To be better, to be better than what we picture ourselves can achieve. I fortuitously find myself in a lovely perfect space. The coffee was great, right temp, right taste 😊. As it was later in the day, I got myself a chicken feta cashew filo. It's one of the yummiest I had so far. I'm impressed by the quality of the ingredients and price. Great balance going. 👍🏻 The place was packed, so it was hard to get pictures with empty seats. Did managed some what. So overall. 👋🏻 5 Stars ⭐ for us. Usually cafes are often visited in transit. This is one Cafe that will be on our list of destination. Well done crew.

Great location on St Asaph St where all the trendy cafes and restaurants are. Near the Boxed Quarter and SALT square. Cool vibes with hanging green plants from the celing and bustling atmosphere. Self-service when ordering and paying for food/drinks. Freshly made items on the cabinet. Classic brunch menu. Poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Some twists on food would be in line with those of Sydney of Melbourne.

I walked into unknown chapter and it was so busy, glad I got a spot. Ordered some breakfast, went for the forest mushrooms and potato rosti, Unfortunately it was not great. The rosti’s were cold and heated in a microwave.
Decided to go back the next day to give it another change. Ordered the eggs Benedict, it was a step up from the mushrooms but it was plain old egg Benedict. Nothing fancy or different.

Unknown Chapter was recommended to me on a recent visit to Christchurch and it didn't disappoint.
Centrally located, it was pumping at 9am on a public holiday. I ordered the veggie breakfast which came with a generous helping of halloumi, mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach, with a yummy potato rosti, sourdough and two poached eggs. Supreme, couldn't fault it. A bit of chilli in the relish would have transformed it though. The cabinet was plentiful also and the ginger tea was good. Friendly service and warm ambience. Overall, a great experience, A+

I came here during a roadtrip with my partner and some friends and it is safe to say that this place is very good! From the food to the modern setting.

The food was the main feature, it was well presented and have some awesome flavors along with perfect portions. I had the smashed avo which was delicious with a fantastic texture and flavour. My partner got the blueberry compote porridge which was also delicious with a notable texture. There were also plenty of gluten free options which is a big plus at any place for me. The food front therefore provided me with no complaints. The coffee was also very good and I would highly recommend it.

The atmosphere of the place was very fresh and clean which was appealing. It lacked a little character but it didn't affect the overall dining experience. Otherwise, the aesthetic was current and modern with an open and light filled space.

The service was good but nothing special, mostly because of the way the place is organized whereby, you order at the counter. There is nothing wrong with that but sometimes you don't get a full customer service experience. But by no means is this a negative.

Overall this is an awesome little place that really focuses on the important stuff (the food!). The food was delicious and there was great coffee, what more could you want. I would recommend this place to anyone in Christchurch.

Good vibes, great food and coffee for a good banter with friends or family. The avocado salad with chicken is definitely a must if you decide to go there! Definitely will go back.

I got the avocado toast meal (can’t remember the exact name) but honestly it was so damn good!! It had dukkah, seeds, multigrain bread and was so delicious. It is a bit on the pricier side but it is well worth it, especially if you’re going for an occasion!! Would recommend 10/10
