Review Arjee Bhajee - Christchurch

Top notch hospitality Every good item was as delicious as it gets, some of the items were prepared out of menu as per the request. Very nice and quick service. I'd love to visit and try other items too.

Had an amazingly quick, dinner experience here at Arjee Bhajee. We we were running short of time and had to get a bite real quick before our movie and their FOH staff was so remarkable and kind,he arranged everything for us perfectly that left us extremely satisfied. We were there on Good Friday where most of the Indian restaurants were closed/closing due to less customers, but these guys were kind enough to keep it open and serve food when we needed it the most. Really appreciate it. We had the gorgeous lamb Rogan Josh and Butter Chicken ,they were soooo delicious and also their naan was just exceptional. Would definitely come back for more when we are in town the next time. Thanks a lot !

Really nice service very helpful. the vegan dumplings delicious if you get them I wait for them to cool down! they come out kind of hot. and the sauce that comes with them is for me the right kind of spiciness smooth but with a kick!

We went here because we had a GrabOne and it was absolutely fantastic! The curries were interesting combinations of unique flavors!! The naan was very good too!! We happily stuffed sharing two curries!

The chicken saag (medium) was super yummy. My son had the butter chicken (hot). Both meals were delightfully spiced. Quite a bit hotter than some Indian restaurants. Best find of the night was the Arjee Bhajee special chicken naan - superb!!!!

I love this restaurant so much! I always crave the momo and the chowmein because it’s so yummm and my favourite curry has to be the lamb rogan josh especially when it’s hot it’s amazing and the perfect spice for me. I recommend this restaurant and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Weekend lunches are very quiet, food is really good, check to see if shift manager is working prior to arrival, otherwise its soft drinks only.

The food was amazing and the service was great, couldn't fault this restaurant. I definitely will be back:)

By around 8:30pm the restaurant was empty apart from another person. We had made a booking prior to coming and there were not enough menus for each individual, however when we eventually made our orders the waiter was very helpful and informative on helping us decide what to order and he waited for about an extra 10 minutes so we could make our orders. When served, the food appeared to be in small portions but it was actually enough for two people. The price was also good for the portion size. I haven't had much Indian food but this was the best Indian food I've had so far. Would recommend.

Very delicious food, fair portion sizes and friendly server.

Staying near by and dined in, one night - great flavors and service. Liked it so much went back a couple of days later for take out! Have some really good takeout deals, friendly and obliging staff - especially Sumad 🙂

Had an amazing experience with this restaurant- food was really aunthentic and delicious- we had chicken dumplings, chciken tikka as starters, gotkhali chicken, chicken labbadar (we love chicken lol) with cheese and garlic naan it was really delicious! There were also vegetable options which are a must- try. We ended our meal with gulab gamun and mango kulfi. Also service is superb! Definitely recommending this place!!!

Would give 0 starts if I could. I have never had an issue in 13 years of dining here but it seems things have gone down hill at the Riccarton store (Sorry Snehil but things were better when you were there) My partner and I order from here once a week and the last 3 times they have forgotten an item from my order. The first time the Uber driver went and collected it for me but the past 2 times I have had to drive down to collect it myself. Why pay for delivery if I am going to have to go out anyway?

Tonight was the last straw, when I got to the shop I gave them the order back after telling them what happened and yes I was angry but the staff just stood there staring and didn't even apologize. I told them I didn't want the food anymore and to give me my money back. Rightly so since it was an Uber order they could not refund me but they told me to do it through the Uber App and I would get my refund but to keep the food anyway, I did but eating it was horrible because by now it was stone cold.

I then get a phone call from Uber to discuss and it seems that Arjee Bhajee called them trying to get my phone number (What?!) but what ever they told Uber means I am not getting my refund. Check your security cameras AB and you will see me attempting to give the food back, yet you told me to keep it so why are you blocking my refund?!

Good luck ordering from here! Only do it if you want only part of your order! Arjee Bhajee we have been going to you for 13 years but not anymore!

I’m not going to even look at this place when I pass by. The food is flavourless. Not even a hint of meat flavour in the curries. The Kashmir chicken looks very unappealing and tastes only of cream. No herbs, spices or flavours Indian cuisine is famous for. The lamb vindaloo tastes only of water. No exaggeration. Being a chef myself, I was beyond disappointed with the taste of the food. I would have been better off getting some supermarket curry.

Food tastes very plain. Absolutely no flavour. Customer service is just ridiculously rude. Asked to deliver some food to the hospital and they didn’t put cutlery or napkins. When I informed them, they did not listen to me at all just said I should have written it as a “special note” before ordering requested . I will never visit this place or recommend it to anyone ever.
Samantha
Reaaaaally good curries, 100% would go again. You get what you pay for and there’s enough for leftovers - mango chicken is especially nice as well as the lamb saag

Brought a biriyani for $19.50. They have just added some spice and chicken to rice. Really doesn’t have any taste. Doesn’t worth even $5. 😒

Have only ever had their takeaway, however, their butter chicken is one of the better ones I've had compared to other Indian restaurants. Full of flavour, friendly staff, great service and reasonably priced as well.

The food was amazing. Super tasty and full of flavors. The staff was friendly and genuinely interested in our day and how our time in Christchurch had been. The paneer pakoras were super yummy!!! There was a great variety of choices on the menu :) thank you :) Highly recommend!

We purchased takeaways from this place using grabone voucher, they initially refused to give the dish we asked for but later agreed after I asked him to double check their menu again. we had 2x kadhai paneer but the it tasted like cottage cheese in tomato puree. I would not go back again as there are better deals out there with good food

We purchased takeaways from this place using a Grabone voucher. Thus, we had $39 worth of food for $22. Already, not the most generous voucher offer out there, since they generaly offer twice the amount for half the price (i.e. $20 gets you $40 worth of takeaway or dining in). My friend did the ordering, I did not physically go there but I provided the voucher. We had the equivalent of a butter chicken since they call it something else and a lamb, as well as a side of large rice. But we had to top up for Naan breads as we were over the $39 relatively quickly. I thought the butter chicken was nothing extraordinary and neither was the lamb. It actually took us a couple of days to finish everything since it seemed less delicious than other Indian takeaway that we have tried. Furthermore, I also think it was a bit pricey and the portion were not particularly generous, even if we used a Grabone voucher. I would not recommend this place, as there are better deals on Grabone or Treatme for Indian restaurants in Christchurch.

Awesome food, great service, my favorite Indian restaurant in Christchurch. Have the best naan in town, to die for. Plus the speed of service helps

I hadn't been to this particular indian before but my friend picked it so off we went.
Service was very polite but it took about 4 requests before we received one bottle of water (table of 8), it took several more requests before two more bottles finally appeared - when we were nearly finished our meals.
The starters were HUGE, I almost regretted ordering it they were so big. My Chicken Tikka ($15) was listed as "chicken chunks" but it was probably the equivalent of five complete boneless thighs. The entree tasted lovely with plenty of kick for me, For my main I had the Venison & Portobello Mushroom (minus capsicum) and it was absolutely delicious. I had so much leftover I had enough for my lunch the next day. In fact all the meateaters said their curries were lovely.
Unfortunately the pescetarian and vegetarian both ordered the Palak Paneer and both of them found it gloopy and too salty. I had a taste after I had finished my own curry and thought it was slimy. While waiters had enquired how our entrees were going they were scarce while we were eating mains (maybe they were afraid we were going to ask for water). The waiters finally came and cleared our dishes and made no mention that the two very green dishes were both full. The two eaters of the palak paneer didn't complain about their dish to the waiters.

For a $10 lunch I ordered lamb saag (my default dish) and added their "world famous" onion bhajia. The saag looked the part but the flavour was lacking. It tasted mostly of spinach (hardly a stringent vegetable!) The bhaji and chutney were nice enough, I don't know that they warrant the acclamations.

Service was good, and the shop is clean. There's easy parking on the side streets of Riccarton Rd.

MOR curry.

This was a wonderful little place at Christchurch serving great Indian food.Located in Riccarton ,was very close to where we were put up so ended up going twice to this restaurant.

We went for the famous samosas served with tamarind chutney for starters, which was fantastic!Perfect for the cold windy weather.
We tried Paneer Makhani with our mains, was well made.Dal Makahani was good.
Vegetable curry options were limited.
Naan was different and I loved the texture and taste, well cooked ,a little different from other restaurants..

The staff were friendly throughout.
Drinks were good, tried mango lassi, lemon n lime bitters..
Overall good experience!
Love Arjee Bhajee, it's one of the best indian places I've been to ever! Definitely the best in christchuch. Amazing food and lovely service. Also, they home deliver (I think delivery fee is $7).

As very bored as I am with Indian cuisine commercially offered here in NZ, I wish to be even handed. Verily, its not as if the Indian restaurant food here is bad, exactly, its just that it is overly dumbed down and rendered oh too safe. Dare I say it but I know Indian food and its many regional variations and especially its homecooked iterations where the REAL Indian food happens better than many. I continue to despair at the extraordinarily limited rich, creamy and sweetened fare which passes as canonical here. Nothing could be farther from the truth for a cuisine which is as regionally as well as seasonally and demographically varied and specialised as any nation on the planet. Yet as much as I acknowledge the timidity of kiwi diners, I salute restaurants which gently and incrementally stretch the palates they encounter.

I’ve only visited this restaurant twice, and as much as I like to visit anywhere more often before proffering a review, Arjee Bhaji is just not the place. As much as I might recognise that this is exactly the way most want it and if you want the average, ummm, safely familiar, then this is just the place. But with average, disinterested service lacking attention to detail and a slightly dirty look, they are lucky to get my seal of 'average-ness' except that they appear to braise their cheaper (and entirely worthy if treated with due care) meat cuts better than many.

First visit. Delicious and different curries (never had a venison one before) and superb service. The lamb saag was especially divine and the bhajees were the best I've ever hard. Great mango lassi too. Will definitely go there again!
Teri
We thought the warm ambience of the venue inviting and the service and friendliness of the staff above average. Although the menu was limited, we were pleased with our selection and are happy to recommend Arjee Bharjee.

I dont know what the last comment was all about! This is the best indian food i have tasted in my life. The Kashmere Chicken is the best i have ever eaten, and the garlic naan to accompany it is divine. We have moved away but still crave it and will always travel to go there. Yum yum

I purchased a Butter Chicken from Arjee Barjee. I used to work for an Indian Restaurant for 2 1/2 years. This is possibly the WORST attempt at B/C I have ever tasted. The chicken wasn't Tandoori, the sauce was...like spicy tomato soup and the Naans...tasted like bread, NOT Naan. The Menu is retarded by the Western flavours, and is incredibly limited. Service was impotant, as he couldn't speak (understand...) English properly. The "Restaurant" was tidy, clean and Modern, possibly the Best thing about Arjee Barjee. I will NEVER eat here again, and I will tell everyone I know not to try their food. Disappointing.

Takeaways: I have just had take aways from this restaurant. I was told it would take 10 mins, it took 25 mins. The lamb was tough and the food was very average. The service was poor and the food very expensive for what you got. I have eaten in the restaurant and the food was good. I would definitely not recommend takeaways, we were very disappointed

This has to be the best curry place in Christchurch. So good I drive from Avondale to Riccarton to get it.
