Review Carlton Bar & Steakhouse Christchurch - Christchurch

On a quick overnighter in Christchurch we were looking for an early dinner. We could have had a generic hotel dinner or a choice of quite a few “pub” restaurants nearby, but on seeing the fireplace and the menu I wouldn’t be swayed. I’m so glad we tried it. We ended up sharing a chicken liver pate which was very tasty. The portion size was a little small with a lot of pickled vegetables, but the flavour was delicious. Weirdly the Favourite Husband and I both opted for a Sunday roast. He had pork (piggy) and I had beef. We won’t put anything in brackets for that … I also ordered a side of the cauliflower bake as “it’s only $12, go on” he said. I’d like it noted he NEVER encourages frivolous spending so I wasn’t going to not. I can honestly say, I enjoyed every single mouthful. I savoured it as if it was Gordon Ramsay’s finest. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a roast that I haven’t cooked for myself so it was such a treat. And good. Three big, thick slices of medium rare, tender beef. Not the tough insole of a sneaker you’d usually expect. Roast potatoes, pumpkin, veggies, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing (unusual with beef but I’m not complaining) and a jus. The pork crackling wasn’t quite there, but to be fair my waist doesn’t need it. The cauliflower bake was small and a little bland, but who cares. The roasts were $25, absolutely outstanding. Also worth noting, the service was super friendly, quick, efficient. So much so that I managed to sneak in a second glass of wine without the Favourite Husband complaining. Great work team

The food did not disappointed me and my guests. They enjoyed it so much and exclaimed that it’s like “on top of the world”. There’s a little bit of wait if you are not in a hurry. Excellent service too. Once again, a very pleasurable place to have a nice steak.

I made a reservation for 6:30 Saturday 20th July 2023 and I was pleasantly greated by the security guard I couldn't help but notice his amazing Maori ta moko and we had a wonderful chat while my mate was grabbing his I.d when I went in I was greated by the staff so wonderfully they looked after me and I was pleased I chose these guys the swinging tomahawk was outstanding!! Same with a rack of pork ribs 😋 my two cocktails were amazing well worth the money I spent thanks guys for looking after me

Positively fabulous meals and outstanding service. Repeat diners who will continue to come back. Sunday roast pork incredibly generous portion and cooked to perfection. Sirloin steak was mouth watering. Wait staff are exceptional.

I came in for dinner and had the venison special which was delicious. There was amazing service from Alex and Rileigh through the whole evening and awesome live music while we had our dinner.

Came down with a rather large group a while ago and was worried we would be a pain. Rest assured the team was more than happy to accomodate. Service was world class, food was absolutely incredible and the drinks came flowing with no wait or issues. I would absolutely recommend this establishment to anybody after a hearty feed, some good local taps and some above par banter. 5 stars from me and my family!

Was really surprised to find this restaurant as I thought the Carlton was just a bar! It was a cold wet Sunday and we sat in a gorgeous both over ĺooking the street. We ordered the Roast beef and it was seriously delicious and a large serving for only $28. Would definitely go again!

We had a fantastic dinner at a very reasonable price. The staff were great. The ambience was nice. The place is sort of casual but the food is actually quite upscale and nicely presented. Definitely worth a visit!

Food was Divine, we had the flat iron steak paired with one of the many amazing sauces on offer. At only $24 a pop it was value for money. Unlike the other steaks, the flat iron is only available in med-rare, which is fine for me, but The Mrs only likes well done steaks (a sin I know) and she was raving about it. Genuinely an amazing feed! Super friendly waitress helped the Mrs make the final choice of the pairing sauce.
