Review Fisherman's Wharf Lyttelton - Christchurch

Right, let's just say I have waited a while to go to the fisherman's wharf , but luckily for us, we got a table and was pleasantly met with extremely polite staff who greeted us with a smile and quick to seat us and take our order ! As for the food 😋 we'll , pretty awesome, and I loved the menu as it was packed with so many amazing food options ! But just when you think it was pretty good, they go and knock it out of the park with their dessert 🍨 that was next level, so I would highly recommend this gem 💎 and will revisit again asap. 😍

Took my wife and 4 friends to celebrate her special birthday. The food was amazing . We took a cake and finished with a fantastic round of coffees. The staff in this place make it a pleasure to dine there. Out whole table chose such a vast variation of food we took photos to remember the event. Thanks to the staff for again providing the perfect dining experience.

I visited on Saturday, September 9. The service of all the staff was great and the food was great. It was a taste that I really want to visit next time. In particular, I was grateful to the orange hair staff who took pictures of our table and whose eyes were as beautiful as the sea. Made our day today. I hope to see you again next time. Thank you very much! 🙂

One of the best place to have Seafood chowder in CHCH. Lot of options in menu available and a separate kids menu is also available. Will be definitely back again. Staffs are very friendly and attentive. Limited car parking available near the restaurant and you have option to park on the road side also. Reservation is recommended since this place can get busy during peak times.

Seafood is fresh and presentation is good. The seafood like squid and mussels on the sizzling plate are over cooked so that was our only disappointment. Limited parking but road side parking is available.

Absolutely amazing place! Great food, beautiful service, nice atmosphere. Prices lower than this level of quality somewhere else.

Food is great, service is terrific especially the waiter who serves us is excellent. We book a table of 9 and bring our own birthday cake to celebrate my son’s 20th birthday. We had a great time that night.
Oh YEAH
The sizzling seafood plate is really good and the seafood chowder is a dream. Do yourself a favour and not order the smaller sized one. The food were really delicious. Even the cheeky seagulls stand around there and hope for food.

I have read so many positive reviews about this restaurant so dined there this evening. The team were very friendly and I had the blue cod. Very nicely presented and so delicious. Salad was very nice too.

Loved the restaurant it was so lovely, homely and casual. We had prime seating looking out onto the beautiful ocean front! It was such a lovely visit. The seafood was fresh! Generous portion sizing and delicious local craft beer. The lovely Manager was very accommodating we would happily return and recommend, it was a lovely start to our holiday from up north!

Went here and got the Scallops wrapped in bacon (not good just swimming in butter couldn’t taste anything else), the Garlic Prawns (again swimming in butter so much it overpowered any nice garlic prawn taste) and got the Salt & Pepper Squid which was horrible because of the texture.. it was overdone and like eating sand - all gritty - I think because they use Sichuan pepper and black pepper In the coating?
Let the staff know that the meals weren’t good and wouldn’t return and they couldn’t seem to care less.
For a seafood place they are terrible at showcasing the seafood and delivering flavours in a good way.

Dined here one day after New Years with our wee family - we had fisherman’s basket, chowder and salt pepper squid shared between us three and it was all very good. The service was efficient and the atmosphere was great. We’ll be back!

A group of 6 of us came to fisherman’s wharf on Sunday for dinner. We all ordered different seafood dishes and every dish was delicious. The fish was fresh and well cooked, as were the sides. The flavours were perfect, so were the portions. The paua dumplings and herb crusted butter fish (special of the day) were the winners of the night, but overall everything was great. Staff were so lovely and attentive.

I was after some seafood for dinner and this place came up. It’s not actually in the main centre, it’s a short 15-20min drive outside Christchurch.

This lovely bowl of seafood chowder kept me warm during my night in Christchurch.

A fisherman's classic, mix of fresh fish, prawns, mussels, shrimp, squid and vegetables in a cream volute served with a slice of garlic bread.
This was one bowl of comfort soup. Creamy and chunky full of seafood goodness. Added a small squeeze of lemon and voila, the perfect soup.

For mains I couldn’t resist the crispy skin salmon. The salmon skin wasn’t crispy unfortunately and it was over cooked and the veggies that accompanied the dish were not steamed for long enough, they were still very crunchy! I couldn’t actually eat all the veg as it was too difficult to cut through them.

It was a hit and miss experience from here overall.

Went here today with my husband and best friend from Texas. My husband ordered ‘Catch of the day’ and my friend ordered ‘Blue cod with chips and salad’. I had a banana milkshake as I wasn’t feeling too well. Chips were apparently nice and crisp and hot and salad somewhat fresh. About half way through eating his fish my husband pulled out a long black hair that seemed to be entwined into the actual batter. I was disgusted and told him to show the staff. He took another bite then there was another hair longer than the first one and that was all entwined in the batter. At this stage I took the plate up myself and showed the staff. They were very apologetic and took the lunch off our bill. One thing for me is I have a very, very large intolerance to hair or anything foreign found in my food - so Fisherman’s Wharf - I will never be going back. Also I noticed the male cook using his hands all the time placing food into the batter and out of the batter with no gloves. I should’ve known better when I first saw that. Also over priced for what we got. All in all not a nice experience and a waste of a trip over to Lyttleton.

A memorable meal... for the wrong reasons. Went with my wife for our wedding anniversary. Nobody asked how our meals were or I would have told them: the steak was tough although the chips were crispy and good. My blue cod was dry and not fresh tasting. Possibly the worst blue cod I have ever had. The steamed vegetables were watery. A very disappointing experience. We will not go back.

We have visited this place several times and it is always wonderful, especially if you love seafood. The hospitality is warm and friendly. You can come just as you are. The views of the port are lovely too. Great wee spot in Lyttleton. It's worth the drive out.

The isite staff recommended its seafood. We got the large size of catch of the day. This is my first time to try monk fish which is meaty and fresh. I love this fish. And also the salad with sunflower seed on top was really good.

Went here for dinner last night and had an excellent meal! We had a wonderful table looking over the port and into the harbour, the food came out quickly and was excellent, we could not fault it. We will definitely be back!

Had a great lunch here with family, great menu with well cooked, well presented fresh seafood, and the wait staff were lovely. Will definitely be back to dine again.

Worse food ever. Went all went out for tea to only received all meats OVER COOKED, no flavour was really bad and small
Really expensive, long wait
Vegetables not cook.
Bad service
The place was warm.
But I think some stuff wasn't fresh same night and next day we was all sick.

Great selection of food and the service is excellent. We really enjoy our meal and the view is superb. Definitely will be back again. Cheers guys for service with a smile. Keep it up. A perfect place to recommend. 👍🏽😄

Had the misfortune of dining here. If i could give this place a 0, i would. Do your self a favour and dine elsewhere. This place has one of the lowest ratings on zomato. We felt ripped off and will not be going back. The service was not good at all and as for the food, it was truly bad.
I had fish and chips with salad and my friend had the sizzling seafood platter. My fish was over cooked, the batter was far to dark, the chips soggy and the salad had browned lettuce. My friend was disgusted with his sizzling seafood platter and he loves his sea food.
I told the manager, but he just got smart with me.
I really don't like handing over good money for such a bad return, its like food fraud.

I will never forget how rudely we were treated by the Spanish female staff there and it appears it is not an isolated case. We will never return to this place as long as she is there.

Really rude staff, expensive prices, poor service and bland meals. My meal came out cold, I had to ask for it to be reheated. No apologies given. Terrible experience here, I would not return.

One of the most forgettable dining experiences ever. We arrived to find that whoever had taken the telephone booking had booked us in a week later and the maÎtre'd didn't care but eventually said that she would set up a table and we could wait outside. Nobody asked us if we would like to order drinks while we waited which we thought was poor service. Food was overpriced bar type food and the seafood chowder was nothing more than a bland roux with marinara mix which was highly disappointing. One round of drinks with the second one forgotten was really poor given that for us it was a family reunion and celebration. We chose this restaurant as we love seafood but we would have had better value and a better experience with a bottle of wine and fish and chips on the beach.

very good seafood chowder.

What a beautiful setting for a seafood restaurant! We had a group of 4 adults and 3 teenagers and had a really great meal with drinks for $175 - Good value these days. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would definitely be happy to recommend it to anyone. The service was pleasant and helpful. When one of the adults enquired about a beer he wasn't familiar with he was offered a tasting. How nice! Thank you for creating a lovely family friendly restaurant in idyllic surroundings. Hope the place will be a success - it deserves to be.
