Review Brigittes Espresso Bar - Christchurch

Great food, in a prime location. Unfortunately we seem to somehow get forgotten by the wait staff and waited over an hour between being seated until food/drinks reaching us. We watched all the tables around us having their orders taken and being served to them ... took us going to the front door for service to occur.

Another delicious lunch at Brigitte’s. Wonderful staff and restaurant ambiance. The menu was varied, portion size appropriate, our group had no complaints. My fish cake was bursting with fish and the accompanying salad complimented it perfectly. Many thanks.

Good experience on a wet Sunday morning, well looked after in the conditions although we were seated outside under cover. Lovely menu although what I got wasn't what I were expecting, was nice anyway. Love to try again on a sunny 🌞 day.

Again a delightful experience at a busy time of the day and week. A must be at place; great atmosphere, attentive staff, top food all at reasonable price. Thanks Staff.

This was a happy return after a year or so away. I love this place! We were there for lunch, and despite being really busy, the service was fast, friendly, and fun. Delicious food, and a really great experience.

We had a lovely lunch at Brigittes on Friday. It was really busy but the staff checked in with us frequently and we both enjoyed the Beetroot Feta Filo (from the new menu) and a nice glass of wine. Will definitely be back sometime soon.

Lovely cafe. The waiter was very patient with our group who was more focused on catching up than on looking at the menu. My salad was delicious, my son's fries were light and crispy and I believe everyone was pleased with their lunch. The terrace outside is perfect on a sunny day!

Something different for a breakfast meal. Nice

Wonderful breakfast! Went along at suggestion of a coworker, and I was very pleased. Nice cosy layout, casual & friendly staff and delicious food. I had the French Toast, but swapped the bacon for the potato stack. A VERY generous serving of French toast with blueberry compote and a tart and extraordinary lemon marscapone. The French toast also came with a dusting of Cinnamon sugar, which added that little extra complexity and joy to the dish, but if you're not a sweet tooth, you've been warned! I have to make a special mention for the potato stack. Layers and layers of crispy potato. If you love potato in any regard, you HAVE to get a side of potato stack. I promise you will not regret it. I would happily have 3 sides for a naughty breakfast or dinner! I'll be back, and with friends next time! Only downside at all was it doesn't seem the most accessible space if you're in a wheel chair or mobility scooter. Some tight spaces, tricky to get to toilets and a step at the shop entrance. Hopefully something that may change in future!

The new revamped Brigittes delivers! Ample seating now, no more crammed up tables & chairs and the menu portions are finally decent again. If it’s new owners or just a new style, we’re here for it! Make sure to call in for weekend reservations as it gets busy real quick.

Went here for Mother’s Day breakfast and wish we had chosen somewhere else! I think possibly it was good 20 years ago but definitely not up to standards today. We were seated virtually outside in the ‘nook’ which was cold, yes they had heaters which were minimal help. I expected blankets to wrap around us as was uncomfortably cold but was told they didn’t have them! Had to use my sisters ski jacket to wrap around my legs - so ridiculous considering we are in Christchurch and this is a winters day 😳 Was underwhelmed by the food.

A wonderful place owned and run by wonderful people. All the classics and go to comfort food your heart can desire, if a way to a mans heart is his stomach, then this cafe should have an branch at the pearly gates of yum-ness...

In Auckland now for almost two years and we still profoundly miss this superb coffee house. Over the years, it became our yardstick and thus far we've failed to find an Auckland equivalent to match the roast, the finish, the consistent quality produced by this almost heritage cafe. The ambience, the service, the food and beverage, the superlative staff - our favourite for decades. Christchurch, enjoy! Ozone Rocks!

A wonderful place for breakfast! Enjoy the coffee and the food here! We ordered big breakfast and egg Benedict. Big breakfast is normal but egg benedict is delicious!
Nice staff as well

family brunch on a sunny winter morning - brigittes invariably delivers - top notch service as we have come to expect - a flat white and a latte just stock standard/bland but the meals impressed - my salmon omelette with dill & cream cheese filling was a delight & well worth $20 - the full breakfast received commendation - the kids cinnamon pancakes thoroughly enjoyed - brigittes usually has a pleasant buzz with a mix of suits & posh but can be a real noise box when busy which can be an issue for business get-togethers...still, better that than a morgue - remains a merivale institution & well worth a visit

i am disgusted with what happened with bridgets yesterday. i had called and made a booking for 9 people the day before for a last minute late lunch with some friends at 2.30. when we all got held up by 10 minutes at 2.40 i got a call from them saying that since we were so late the chefs were waiting around for us and we were wasting there time stating that they could of closed earlier. they close at 4. this was horrible. they lost a whole lot of money and the lunch that i had organised was off. i couldn't believe how rude these comments to me were. they told me "we actually wouldn't like you to come due to you holding us up". it was 10 minutes people are sometimes late. if you want ok food and horrible costumer service then this is the place for you. I've been there many of times before and the service is always the case. bridgets treated me rudely and unprofessionally and i would never want to support that business again.

Every time we go there always impressed with the foods and services 😀👍 Not only that never felt dissatisfied. This restaurant are the best that we had dine in. We will continually go there and relax after a long hard day at work.

Came in for a hangover breakfast. Sue had the mushrooms on toast and I had the big Brigittes breakfast. Both were very good and the service was very good.
Yes, it is a bit noisy but that is part of the "cure" of a hangover breakfast.

It's a pleasant place to have a lazy weekend brunch. The food is worthy and the coffee is beautiful. Decent deco and friendly staff. A bit crowded and noisy sometimes, but in a good way.

Dinner is available sometimes too. Not as attractive as day meals but still good.

Yet another brunch/late night option in Merivale. While it's best to make a booking, there are plenty of tables inside and out that walk-ins in small numbers (2) should be fine. We made a booking and were seated immediately at a cute little table overlooking the patio seating. The cafe is cute and no frills, but offers a full lunch menu (after 3pm, and looked amazing) and serves breakfast until 3 pm.

Our coffee orders were taken immediately and water was brought to the table. We waited for over 10 minutes for our coffee to be served (one barista making coffee for the entire restaurant = sleeping zombies grumbling at tables) and for our food order to be taken. Finally someone came to our table and we ordered pancakes (with bacon, cream and strawberries) and the Big Breakfast (tomato, mushroom, bacon, sausage, poached eggs, toast, hashbrown). The food was served much quicker. We returned for another breakfast with friends and received the same slow service for coffees, but good food.

The Pancakes: large and fluffy (looked whole wheat maybe?) slightly overcooked for my taste. Not enough syrup (and I don't even care much for syrup) but the bottom pancake was soggy with a concoction of strawberry juice and syrup. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the cream pairs well with the pancakes if you're not a big syrup person. Very filling meal.

The Big Breakfast: The sausages were spicy for my palate, but someone with a (American) southwestern flare will love them. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the eggs were poached to perfection. I didn't try the toast, hashbrown (golden brown and crispy), tomato or mushroom as it wasn't my breakfast, but my husband cleared the plate.

Eggs Benedict w/ Bacon: No frills. Just the eggs benedict and a small design made from (mint?) on the plate. The toast was charred, but the overall flavor was solid.

Eggs Anyway w/ Toast: Again, no frills. This was literally two eggs on top of two pieces of toast. If you have a small appetite (which I did) this is the perfect sized breakfast. The toast is buttered and was grilled perfectly, not too crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. The eggs were also cooked spot on.

Corn Fritters: Very filling. There's definitely more bread than corn or fillers, but the taste is solid. Not something I would order for myself, but if you like a little southwest flare, it's pretty decent. This dish is served with a few vegetable garnishes.

Overall, the food is slightly above average but no stand-out to the rest of the options around Papanui Road. The service could have been slightly more efficient, but with only one barista and a small service area, that would be hard to change. I won't rush back here for breakfast, but it definitely is a decent option if you want a quick and filling breakfast. I'll update again once I try out their lunch.

Brigitte’s
has long been our ‘local’ because of its consistently excellent coffee. We dined there last month on a Friday
evening, when the seasonal menu and evening dining hours had recently been changed. (Dinner is now available Thursday – Saturday
from 5.30pm.) Along with the various entrees
and mains, it was good to see some items from the luncheon menu available for
evening dining. Choices such as Caesar
salad and pan-fried salmon fillet give diners the option of a less
‘substantial’ main, if they feel so inclined.By 7pm the restaurant was starting to fill; we were glad to have reserved a
table. Staff were pleasant and welcoming and were well able
to answer our questions about the menu and daily specials. After a (tasty!) complimentary appetiser,
First Diner opted for the beef fillet steak with potato gratin, sautéed
seasonal greens, red onion jam and red wine jus. Second Diner was tempted by the garlic and
thyme marinated chicken breast on kumara croquette and grilled haloumi, but
opted for the day’s special of oven-baked tarakihi on parsnip puree with salad and
crispy bacon, finished with tomato and caper beurre noisette.
Both
mains were flavoursome and well-presented, and the beef was cooked exactly as
First Diner requested. Second Diner
found the tarakihi offered interesting contrast of flavour, colour and
textures, the salad being a true mesclun of generous proportion which left
Second Diner somewhat defeated. An
enticing range of desserts was offered, but due to time constraints we
declined. (However it is worth noting
that Brigitte’s now also offers a selection of impressive gateaux served by the
slice, including favourites such as Victoria sponge, peach and passionfruit
gateau and Red Velvet cake. These are beautifully
crafted, and (as we’ve discovered on another visit) they are rich and delicious,
and a perfect complement to coffee at any hour of the day or evening!

Throughout the meal, service was prompt and impeccable
without being obsequious. Prices are
reasonable. Brigitte’s is a great venue
for dinner when you want to converse over your meal, rather than be assaulted
by cocktail bar clatter and blaring music. And the food is great too! We’ll be back.

Delicious food and pleasant service. Have been here on a variety of occasions including; the hangover, the celebratory start, the running man all the way through to just meeting someone I don't know that well... Something on the menu for everyone and the staff are not intrusive. As far as Merivale goes it's the most consistently good.

We popped in here to have a celebratory breakfast, we didn't book but a table was quickly found for us, the service was good, meal presentation good, meals came out quickly, I had the mushrooms on toast, one of the more pricey menu options, it came with a poached egg and spinach, roasted cherry toms with pesto and hollandaise on bread.
The serve size was good, but the flavors lacked and there was only a dessert spoon of hollandiase on the egg. For $21.50 it wasn't value for money.
